Begley – Margaret F. Begley of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at the Bloomington Hospital. Born on September 20, 1919, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Harley and Goldie (Penrose) Kinder. She married Levi Begley Aug. 26, 1946, and he died Nov.27, 1993.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Alice Yaney of Bedford, IN; one sister , Mrs. Gerald (Lucille) Mikels of California; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Fred Kinder of West Virginia.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Central Church of Christ.

Flynn – Bennie Leroy Flynn of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at his residence. Born on June 27, 1932, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Bennie Joesph and Ethel Marie (Smith) Flynn. He married Shirley Yvonne Butler on January 19, 1952, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Lou Aronson and Susan Yvonne Swango, both of Bedford, IN; one son, Gregory Scott Flynn of Bedford, IN; three brothers: Kenneth F. Flynn of Solsberry, IN, Ronald L. Flynn of Oolitic, IN, and Montez Dwayne Flynn of Springville, IN; four sisters: Doris Harris, Delores Phillips, Mary Phillips, and Donna Elayne Kimmel, all of Springville, IN; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Danny Leroy Flynn.
He was a retired truck driver, a driver for Jerry Arthur Paving and a bus driver for North Lawrence Community Schools. He was a member of the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church.
Services for Bennie Flynn will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3rd, at the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Brown – Roberta Brown of Oolitic, IN, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at her residence. Born on April 26, 1916, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of John Samuel and Lula (Lane) Pemberton. She married Buck Brown, and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Lori Elsie, Ada Pearl, Mary, Louis Jean and Marie.
She was a homemaker.
There will be a graveside service for Roberta Brown at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 2nd, at Breckenridge Cemetery. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no service or visitation at the mortuary.
Gordon – Lillian O. Gordon of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 3, 1940, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer L. and Ida (Blake) Gilbert. She married Robert E. Gordon on August 20, 1955, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Vicki Cole of Freeport, IL, and Betty Robbins of Mitchell, IN; two sons, Richard and Gary Gordon, both of Mitchell, IN; four brothers: John and Robert Gilbert, both of Loogootee, IN, Cletus and David Gilbert, both of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Hazel Pemberton of Mitchell, IN, and Juanita Marshall of Paoli, IN; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a set of sibling twins in infancy; one sister, Mary Jones, and one brother, Charlie Gilbert.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Salvation Army in Mitchell.

Ingalls – William C. Ingalls of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, March 29, 1999, at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix. Born on June 15, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of William and Lucy M. Edmonson Ingalls. He married Suzanne Stewart on October 9, 1953, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sallie Ingalls Rudd of Phoenix, AZ, and Susan Ingalls Lee of Saline, MI; one brother, James F. Ingalls of Bedford, IN; one sister, Lucy Ann Ingalls Hostettler of Annondale, VA; and one granddaughter.
He was president of Indiana Sandstone Co. from 1953 to 1986, when he retired. A 1942 graduate of Culver Military Academy, he graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, in 1949. He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1942-1946 and was a former member of the Bedford Elks Lodge, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and I-Deal Club. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church.

Martin – Catherine G. Martin of Williams, IN, died Monday, March 29, 1999 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on April 26, 1965, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Junior and Evalee Phillips. She married Rex Martin on June 23, 1984, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Bobby Martin at home; her mother of Williams, IN; two sisters, Ettamae Elliott of Williams, IN, and Tammy Holland of Bedford, IN; six brothers: Jay Phillips, Charles, Terry, and Eugene Cain, all of Williams, IN, Lloyd Phillips of Bedford, IN, and Bryan Phillips of Spencer, IN. She was preceded in death by her father and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
She was a phlebotomist at the Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Speer – Mildred Lynn Speer of Bedford, IN, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 12, 1935, in Knightstown, IN, she was the daughter of Vernie and Kyle (Bennett) Moore. She married Robert Speer on May 10, 1968, and he survives.
Also surviving are three daughters: Donna Hillenburg of Silverville, IN, Tina Burks of Bedford, IN, and Kim Jarvis of Avoca, IN; two sons, Larry Joe Speer of Springville, IN, and Kevin J. Speer of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Cecil and Kenneth Moore, both of Indianapolis, IN; three sisters: Lola Mae "Susie" Walker of Indianapolis, IN, JoAnn Kirkman of Bedford, IN, and Ruth Corey of Oolitic, IN; twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Stanley, Wayne, and Myron Moore.
She was a homemaker.

Blackwell – Edith M. Blackwell of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, March 28, 1999, at the Bedford Hospitality House. Born on February 18, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Harry A. and Chloie (Stultz) Wray. She married Robert W. Blackwell, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Surviving are two sons, Robert J. Blackwell and William W. Blackwell, both of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Lena Marie Hawkins of Seymour, IN, and Janet Kay Sowders of Avoca, IN; one sister, Josephine Brooking of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Marie Lambrecht.
She was retired from Central Foundry and was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church.

Bowden – Jerry Craig Bowden of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 14, 1977, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Jerry A. and Sharon (Asbury) Bowden.
Surviving are his parents of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Kevin Scott Bowden of Mitchell, IN; and his paternal grandmother, Blanche Bowden of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Norma Jean Ellis, and his paternal grandfather, Bernard Bowden.
He was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.

Hancock – John A. Hancock of Bedford, IN, formerly of Terre Haute, IN, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on December 28, 1929, in Nashua, NH., he was the son of Stanton and Ora (Stratton) Hancock. He married Edna Dicey on March 29, 1958, and she survives.
Also surviving are four daughters: Florence "Flow" Todd of Bedford, IN, Donna Johnson of Yerington, NV; Iris Mulder of South Dakota and Heidi Cobb of Spencer, IN; one son, Paul Hancock of Jasonville, IN; one brother, David Hancock of Massachusetts; one sister, Beatrice Nuting of Massachusetts; eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He had worked for Wal-Mart and Conva-Care. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart in Korea, the Medal of Commendation in Vietnam and eight service bars in Japan. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1405, Spencer, and a former member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, Bedford.

Kremp – Claire A. "Polly" Kremp of Longwood, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in Longwood. Born on September 17, 1908, in Illinois, she was the daughter of William H. and Alice Marie (Raub) Curtis. She married Raymond Krmp in 1952, and he died March 23, 1979.
Surviving are two sons, Nelson R. and William R. Curtis, both of Longwood, FL; one sister, Dorothy Cox of Casselberry, FL; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker, an active golfer at Otis Park and a member of Tri Kappa, while she lived in Bedford.
Services for Claire Kremp were held in Longwood. Private family entombment will be at Cresthaven Mausoleum at Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford. Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. There will be no service or visitation at the funeral home.
Roberts – Anita Kay Roberts of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on November 17, 1946, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Wayne and Ouida (Lightsey) Phillips. She married Ray Roberts on August 30, 1969, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Troy Roberts of Mitchell, IN; two daughters, Lisa Dull of Columbus, IN, and Kelli Lucas of Mitchell, IN; her mother, Ouida Phillips of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Connie Bolton of Bedford, IN; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father in 1991.
She was a homemaker and attended Liberty Baptist Church.

Gregory – Everett E. Gregory of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 22, 1908, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of James and Bertha (Horner) Gregory. He married Dorothy Rosenbaum in 1932, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Betty Wagoner of Bedford, IN, Mary Sue may of Plainfield and Kim Parkes of Mitchell, IN; three sons, Robert Dean Gregory of Bloomington, IN, David and William Gregory, both of Bedford, IN; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, James Floyd Gregory, three sisters, and one brother.
He was a retired truck driver for A&H Truck Lines and was a member of the First Christian Church in Vallonia.

Newman – Mary Frances (Mann) Newman of Grand Rapids, MI, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at the home of her daughter. Born on November 28, 1922, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of john and Ruth (Dodd) Mann.
Surviving are one daughter, Ruthanne Wambold of Grand Rapids, MI; one son, John Thomas Newman of Mount Washington, KY; one brother, Howard "Sorry" Mann of Mitchell, IN; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Mann.
For twenty-six years she was the owner and owner and operator of Francey's Beauty Shop. She was a graduate of Mitchell High School and a member of the Phi Beta Psi sorority and the First Baptist Church.

Summers – Agnes Ann Summers of Danville, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at the Danville Regional Rehab Center. Born on February 10, 1923, in Marion county, IN, she was the daughter of William J. and Neva (Neal) Jordan, St. she married William Edward Summers in January, 1968, and he died on May 3, 1995.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Hyatt of Danville, IN, and Mary R. smith of Durango, CO; one brother, Thomas A. Jordan of Indianapolis, IN; three step-daughters: Sue Pogue of Brownstown, IN, Betty Cartwright of Florida, and Mary Summers of Overland Park, KS; and one step-son, Ron Summers of Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by to brothers, Howard W. and William J. Jordan, Jr.
She was a teacher in Patricksburg, Holton, Raub, and New Whiteland, IN, and in St. Claire Shores, MI, before retiring in 1972. A graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and Indiana Central College in Indianapolis, she attended Butler University. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and the Dive Christian Church. She was baptized at Hillside Christian Church in Indianapolis and for many years was a church organist at various churches.

Trueblood – Roy Trueblood of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at the White River Lodge. Born on October 13, 1897, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Josiah and Annie White Trueblood. He married Sarah Viola Wagner on May 24, 1930, and she died August 21, 1990.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Deckert of Bedford, IN, and Mary Kay Schnuck of Muncie, IN; two sisters, Hazel Hill and Lorene Williams, both of Bedford, IN; one brother, Arthur Trueblood of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Trueblood, and two sisters, Lucille Trueblod and Nola Edwards.
He graduated from Bryantsville High School in 1916, attended Indiana State Normal College at Terre Haute, and taught third and fourth grades at Williams School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in July, 1918. After returning from World War I he became an auto mechanic. After service eight years as deputy county auditor, he was elected auditor in 1932, serving eight years. He served five years as a clerk in the state auditor's office, after which he became a field examiner for the State Board of Accounts until he retired in 1962. He was the last surviving World War I member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33, the past commander of Lawrence County Barrack No. 533 of World War I Veterans, a former member of the Bedford Kiwanis and the AARP. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Cunningham – James A. Cunningham of Bedford, IN, died Monday, March 24, 1999, in Evansville, IN. Born on July 1, 1939, in Terre Haute, he was the son of Harold V. and Mabel (Hanson) Cunningham. He married Priscilla Underhill in 1964, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James Wesley Cunningham of San Francisco, CA, and Patrick A. Cunningham of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Harry Leon Cunningham of Bedford, IN; one sister, Patricia McRae of Visalia, CA; one aunt and three uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale Wayne Cunningham.
He retired in 1995 from Ford Electronics & Refrigeration. He was 1958 graduate of Leesville High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Harrell – Ella Mae Harrell of Bedford, IN, died Monday, March 24, 1999, at the Bedford Nursing Center. Born on March 25, 1927, she was the daughter of Vera A. East. She married Carl O. Harrell on February 10, 1944, and he died June 4, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Joe D. and Greg P. Harrell, both of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and one son, Steven Carl Harrell.
She was a bookkeeper for Harold Chastain and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Services for Ella Harrell will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24th, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernie Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. McPherson – Henry Burton McPherson of Mitchell, In, died Monday, March 22, 1999, at his residence. Born on February 27, 1921, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Henry E. and Ida Mae (Burton) McPherson. He married Dorothy Mae Burton on July 9, 1948, and she died May 9, 1995.
Surviving are four sons: Larry Burton, Steven David, David Lee, and Mark Allen McPherson, all of Mitchell, IN; five sisters: Fay Chastain of Orleans, IN, Rowana Thompson of Ephrata, WA, Lorena Eversole, Kathryn Parks and Agatha Merry, all of Mitchell, IN; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland N. and Emmett E. McPherson.
He was owner-operator of Mac's Roller Rink for thirty-six years. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107 and Spring Mill Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 172.

Hancock – Daniel T. Hancock of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his residence. Born n October 19, 1952, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Wayne and Nancy (Harrison) Hancock.
Surviving are his parents of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Noble Joe Hancock of Bedford, IN, and Stanley W. Hancock of Ninevah, IN; one sister, Anita Gayle Neeley of Ellettsville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the manager of the Bedford Pawn Shop. He was a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in animal science and was active in Ham Radio with call letters of WB91TY. He was of Baptist faith.
There will be private graveside services for Daniel Hancock with the Rev. Richard Chase officiating. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. There will be no public visitation or service at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Caudell – Marian E. Caudell of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Mitchell Manor. Born on October 8, 1930, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Wendell and Mildred (Ridge) Holmes. She married Don W. Caudell on June 30, 1952, and he survives.
Also surviving are four sons: Don W. Caudell II and Kelly K. Caudell, both of Mitchell, IN, Kurt H. Caudell of Springville, IN, and Klay J. Caudell of Seymour, IN; one brother, John Holmes of Libertyville, IN; one half-brother, Mike Johnson of Georgia; one half-sister, Dorsey Novak of Pennsylvania; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A 1948 graduate of Mason City High School in Iowa, she received bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Indiana University. She was a writer and a teacher for nineteen years at Mitchell High School. She was a member of the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church, the Mitchell Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

Sullivan – Clavorn H. "Sully" Sullivan of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 2, 1915, in Kentucky, he was the son of Luther and Gertie (Silvers) Sullivan. He married Grace Maxwell, and she survives.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Margiotta; one son, Dennis Sullivan; three sisters: Dorothy Bratton, Kathlene Owen and Clydia Grimes.
He had worked as an auto mechanic in Bedford and Bloomington. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was a veteran of World War II.

Terrell – Edith Catherine Terrell of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on August 4, 1910, in Orleans, IN, she was the daughter of Culmer and Grace (Pickens) Fry. She married Willard Terrell, and he died in 1988.
Surviving are three daughters: Jeannette Hardman of Mitchell, IN, Ro Pettiner of Carmel, IN, and Donna L. Bowman of Springboro, OH; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur Fry, and one sister, Jessie McNevin.
She owned and operated the Northside Cafeteria in Orleans and was the cafeteria manager at Mitchell High School for several years. She was a member of the Jacob Finer United Methodist Church, the Dixie Club and was a founding member of the spring Mill Home Extension Club.

Williams – Merlin Dale "Spike" Williams of Springville, IN, died Saturday March 20, 1999, at his residence. Born on July 5, 1956, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Homer and Anna Pearl (Brock) Williams. He married Debbie Taylor on July 6, 1988, and she survives.
Also surviving are his father and step-mother, Homer and Edna Williams of Bedford, IN; two step-children, Chad and Sarah Shifflett, both at home; and one half-sister, Maxine Hall of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister, Saundra Kay Owens.
He was a truck driver for Zipp Express and was of Protestant faith.

Allen – Mary Louise Allen of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on January 15, 1920, in Leesville, IN, she was the daughter of Julius and Rose (Elkins) Fullen. She married Kenneth Allen and he died in 1983.
Surviving are three daughters: Patricia Allen of Bedford, IN, Maryalice Allen of Noblesville, MI, and Christina Allen Roberts-Christiansted of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; two sons, Kenneth Gene Allen of Bedford, IN, and Carroll Dean Allen of Long Beach, CA; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen Allen.
She was a homemaker and had worked at M. Fine & Sons and in housekeeping at Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Moose and Eagles Lodge Auxiliaries and was a member of the Free Methodist Church.

Caraway – Virginia Kathryn Caraway of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on April 1, 1918, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Harry and Lena (Miller) McBrayer. She first married Archie Tolbert. She married Vernon Caraway on April 5, 1970, and he died December, 1970.
Surviving are three sons: Lowell Tolbert of Sarasota, FL, Albert Tolbert of Mitchell, IN, and George Tolbert of Paoli, IN; two daughters, Katherine Davis of Dover, DE, and Wilma Egans of Bedford, IN; one sister, Norma Pemberton of Bedford, IN; twenty grandchildren, and fifty great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, three sisters, and one grandson.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Bride of Christ Fellowship in Mitchell.

Dobson – Vernon F. Dobson of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on January 7, 1911, in Greene County, IN, he was the son of Frank and Ora (Hudson) Dobson. He married N. Alice Strauser and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Judith Ann Mitchell of Bedford, IN, and Opal Hamlin of Bloomfield; two sons, Larry M Dobson of Solsberry, IN, and V. Leonard Dobson of Farmington, Utah; one sister, Zola Weaver of Indianapolis; thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Dobson, and three sisters: Janice Anderson, Naomi McCoy, and Alta Garsnett.
He was a retired carpenter for Indiana University and a musician. He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Bloomfield.

McLain – Gwendolyn McLain of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, March 16, 1997, at Mitchell Manor Nursing & Rehab Center. Born on February 12, 1908, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary Catherine (Darnell) Landreth. She married Curtis A. McLain on October 14, 1932, and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1969.
Surviving are three sons: Jerry McLain of New York NY; Richard McLain of Mitchell, IN; and the Rev. Ronald McLain of Orleans, IN; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three sons: Joe, Lannie, and Jimmie McLain; one daughter, Frances McLain, in infancy; five brother, and five sisters.

Deckard – Clinton Deckard of Bedford, IN, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at his residence. Born on June 14, 1918, in the Guthrie community, he was the son of George and Arzona (Stewart) Deckard. He married Margie Bartlett on April 8, 1939, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Johnny Deckard of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Cleo Hillenberg of Bloomington, IN, and Goldie Prince of Heltonville, IN; one granddaughter and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.
He retired after thirty-five years with Indiana Limestone Company. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Root – Joseph Clyde Root of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at the Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on April 16, 1909, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Thomas V. and Cora (Williams) Root. He married Alice Patton and she died in 1984. He married Hester Baldwin and she survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Anna Claque of Conroe, TX; three step-sons, Edward and James Baldwin, both of Bedford, IN, and Michael Baldwin of Jamestown, ND; caregiver, Vernon Root of Bedford, IN; nine step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Melvin Root, and two sisters, Emma Root and Edna Zollman.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a self-employed cabinetmaker and carpenter. He was a member of the New Union Christian Church, where he was an elder, and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Baker – Gerald R. "Jerry" Baker of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 18, 1927, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Russell and Ruby (Lavender) Baker. He married Georgianna Toliver on July 6, 1952, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Jerri Lynn Stewart of Bedford, IN; one son, Jay Baker of Greenwood, IN; two sisters, Anne Keane of Mitchell, IN, and Joan Bond of Ingalls, IN; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by this parents, one brother, Reid Baker and one sister, Helen Farmer.
He was a maintenance worker at Central Foundry and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, the Serenity Club, the Bedford Senior Citizens, the UAW Local 440 and the American Legion Post 250.

She retired from the Petersburg (IN) Public Schools after twenty-five years of service as a music and art teacher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution in Pike County, and was a fifty-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Gilliatt – John T. Gilliatt of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 18, 1917, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Oliver and Nellie (Paschal) Gilliatt. He married Virginia Kern on May 21, 1938, and she died September 13, 1985.
Surviving are one daughter, Melba Halamicek of Las Cruces, NM; two grandchildren; and one aunt, Cleo Hall of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth DeNeve.
He was a millwright at General Motors Powertrain and was a World War II Army veteran.

He was a retired Bedford City Police officer. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 94 and a life member of Elks Lodge No. 826. He was of Protestant faith.

Surviving are three sons, Jake Mounce of Orleans, IN, and Bert Mounce and Danny Mounce, both of Mitchell, IN; five daughters: Dorothy Terrell, Sue Terry, Sharon Craig, and Judy Kern, all of Mitchell, IN, and Betty Hart of Norman, IN; two sisters, Sylvia Green and Violet Swartz, both of Mitchell, IN; twenty-seven grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Charles Mounce; three sisters, three brothers, two grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was retired from the TravLers Corp in Orleans and was a member of the Spice Valley Church of Jesus Christ.
Services for Ruby Mounce will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 8th, at Spice Valley Church of Jesus Christ with Bro. Kenneth Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at the Spice Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday at the Chastain Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. until the service time Monday at the church.

Cahill – Donald E. Cahill of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at his residence. Born on February 28, 1950, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Emery and Violet (Morris) Cahill.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth Cahill of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Gloria Cauble of Bedford, IN; and three sisters, Sherry Voigtschild of Bedford, Rita Terrance of Florida, and Janice Smith of Bloomington, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bunch – William E. "Jack" Bunch died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 30, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Elza and Sally (Walters) Bunch. He married Dorothy Oliver on December 20, 1935, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sandy Cox of Mitchell, IN, and Karen May of Bedford, IN; four brothers: Alvin, Robert "Bob", and James Bunch, all of Bedford, IN, and Charles Bunch of Boaz, AL; seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ellen Bunch, and one sister, Hattie Mae Cummings.
He owned and operated Bunch's Service Station and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran.
Services for William Bunch will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Mary 6th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Frields officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Green – Joan K. Hale Green of Bedford, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in Monroe County. Born on September 16, 1933, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Lee T. and Florence J. Staples. She married Carl Green on January 6, 1997, and he survives.
Also surviving are four daughters: Lisa Pace, Lana Stigall, and Dana Sowders, all of Bedford, IN, and Tamyra Verheul of Fairfax VA; one step-son, Joe Green of Bedford, IN; one step-daughter, Rita Martin of Spencer, IN; and seventeen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Norman Hale and Frank Bowman; and one daughter, Paula Michelle Hale.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, Otis Park Ladies Golf Club, Tuesday Morning Women's Bowling League, and was a former member of the Lawrence County Saddle Club.
Services for Joan Green will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6th, at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ronald Sacco officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Lee – John L. Lee of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at his residence. Born on October 18, 1950, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of John W. and Mildred R. (Parker) Lee.
Surviving are three sisters: Irma G. Tincher of Avoca, IN, Linda D. Bergman of Butler, IN, and Donetta J. Duncan of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
He was an auto mechanic at the Marathon Station in Bedford and in Springville and was a member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Dept.

Brown – Alice Pauline Brown of Bedford, IN, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on October 14, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Amos L. and Susan (Elva) Speer.
Surviving are one sister, Mildred "Mid" Brown of Bedford, IN, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Lillie "Katie" Guthrie, Mae Crane, Trellah V. Yost, and Maudie Brown; and three brothers: Luther, Winfred, and Ralph Brown.
She retired after forty years with M. Fine and Sons. She was a member of the Leesville United Methodist Church.

Korzen – Emma Foster Korzen of Bedford, IN, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on July 23, 1907, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Martin and Paulina (Haller) Nagele. She married Eugene Foster in 1926, and he died April 27, 1966. She married John Korzen in 1981, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Harold Foster of Saginaw, MI; one sister, Wilhelmina Pearson of St. Genevieve, MO; sixteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Martin "Bud" Foster on July 28, 1977m, six brothers, and four sisters.
Services for Emma Korzen will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6th, at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernie Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
