Bedford – Michael R. Lane, 77, of Bedford, passed away at 8:18 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born June 21, 1947, in Mitchell, he was the son of Herschel Lee and Lois Grace (Beasley) Lane. He married Janice Grissom in 1985, and she survives. He retired as a machine operator at General Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Janice, of Bedford; two sons, Michael Lane (Tessa Marie), of Springville and Thomas Lane (Mechell), of Heltonville; three grandchildren, Megan, Cameron and Clairann; two great-grandchildren, Justin Flynn and Maleha Lane; a brother, Jerry Lane, of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian; a grandson, Mike Lane; two brothers, Bobby and Jim.

Luann (George) Strunk
April 5, 1966 – January 16, 2025
Bedford – Luann (George) Strunk, 58, of Bedford, passed away at 9:00 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Born April 5, 1966, she was the youngest of 9 children born to Stanley and Evelyn (Bunch) George. Luann enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. She was an avid crafter and loved DIY projects and working with her hands. She spent many hours caring for her fur babies and never knew a stranger.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Strunk; daughters, Sarah Strunk and Ashley Dowling; son-in-law, Derek Dowling; grandchildren, Alice Dowling, Ember Dowling, Aaron Strunk, and Billy Dowling; siblings, Karen, Jimmy and Randy. She was preceded in death by her parents; Evelyn and Stanley; siblings, Susie, Johnny, Tommy, Eddie and Scott; mother and father-in-law, Eva and Donald Strunk; brother-in-law, Charles Strunk and daughter, Courtney.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 20th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery. Ronnie Lee Smith
MITCHELL – Ronnie Lee Smith, 73, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born October 7, 1951, in Bedford, he was the son of Issac Vestal and Evelyn Ilene (Smith) Smith. He married Carol Ann Weaver on February 12, 1999, and she survives.
Ronnie retired from the City of Mitchell. After retirement, he started mowing for people. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and being outdoors. Ronnie was very sociable and always willing to help others. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Ann Smith of Mitchell; children, Scott J. (Holly) Smith of Mitchell, Sheila (Jordan) Triplett of Mitchell, Richard Roach of Mitchell, Elizabeth Roach of Mitchell, and Sabrina (Kenneth) Bingham of Bedford; siblings, Clarence E. Smith of Bedford and Phyllis A. McSherry of Mitchell; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His parents; daughter, Angela Dawn Miller; four brothers; three sisters; and one half-sister, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Cremation will follow.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

William Henry Leavitt
MITCHELL – William Henry Leavitt, Sr., 69, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at his residence.
Born March 23, 1955, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he was the son of Raymond O. and Helen E. (Kennett) Leavitt.
William was as a career machinist and worked for various companies. He was also a known handyman. He enjoyed bicycling and tennis. He loved to cook for his friends and family, and host gatherings.
He is survived by his son, William Henry Leavitt, Jr. and his wife Harmony of East Kingston, New Hampshire; two grandsons, Page and Jordan; one great-grandson; brother, Lowell Eaton; several nieces; and one great-great nephew whom he shared a birthday with.
His parents; brothers, John, George, and Ray; and sister Lorraine, preceded him in death.
His final wishes were to be cremated and brought back home to New Hampshire.

Robert Lee Taylor, Jr.
Robert Lee Taylor, Jr. “Little Bob,” 43 of Norman passed away at his residence on January 12, 2025. He was born on January 14, 1981, in Seymour to Robert Lee Taylor, Sr. and Mona (Delph) Taylor and they survive. Robert married Stacey Fiscus on May 6, 2003, and she survives.
Robert was a Logger and in recent years has been disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Stacey Taylor, his parents, Robert L. Taylor, Sr., and Mona Taylor, two stepsons, Joshua Tyler, and Aaron Ray, two sisters, Tonya Behold, and Bobbie Mikels.

Terri L. “Mammy” Ritchison

Bedford – Terri L. “Mammy” Ritchison, 65, of Bedford, passed away at 7:48 am on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Monroe Hospital in Bloomington.
Born June 23, 1959, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Bill and Deloris (Cobb) Crane. She married Doug Ritchison and he survives. She worked at Visteon for 30 years and then at Walmart for 10 years. She enjoyed panning for gold, traveling, gardening and crocheting. She loved her animals on her mini-farm. She was passionate and loved her family dearly.
Survivors include her husband of 49 ½ years, Doug; three daughters, Amber Jones, Mandy Streich, and Cassi Ritchison; grandchildren, Michael Ritchison, Garrett Jones, Sean Jones, Logan Streich and significant other, Annera, Mykah Streich, Alax Streich, Bobby Philpott and wife, Lea, Emily Philpott and significant other, Elias, Ian Jane Philpott; great-grandchildren, Waylon Mains Johnson, Blake Philpott, Zoey Philpott, Savannah Philpott, Addlyn Bartlett, and Keyona Bartlett; siblings, Michelle “Shelly” Ragsdale and husband, Bill, Cheryl Norman, Clarence “Billy” Burton, Jo Anne Fields Spaulding, Diane Stegner, Betty Lindauer and Debbie Smith; mother-in-law, Peggy Ritchison; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Marene A. McKnight

Marene A. McKnight, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away at Community South Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born April 18, 1940, in Indianapolis, to Arthur J. Reifeis and Dorothea C. (Rucker) Ilg.
Marene was a high school graduate and of the Christian faith. She retired from the State of Indiana Auditors Office. She loved her animals and spending time with her family.
Surviving to cherish Marene’s memory are her children, Shannon Kinney, Anthony (Lori) West, Carey McKnight, Kim Adams and Allison Dishman; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and two brothers, Ronnie Reifeis and Michael Reifeis.
Marene was preceded in death by her parents.
A graveside service for Marene will be held Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00am at Beech Grove Cemetery of Bedford. Phil Thorne will be officiating. There will be no public visitation hours.

Robert Clay Collins
The world lost a dear man on January 10th, 2025, when Robert Clay Collins was called home.
Robert (Bob) was born on February 6th, 1943, in St. Louis, MO to Julia and Ralph Collins.
After graduating from Ashland HS in Ashland, KY in 1961, Bob graduated from Murray State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. While at Murray State, he met Elizabeth Hall and they married in March 1965. Their 60th wedding anniversary would have been March 27, 2025.
Bob and Liz moved to Bedford, IN in 1967 and raised a family as well as being active members of the community. Bob was a passionate supporter of the American Red Cross and donated blood regularly.
Bob and Liz were active members of the First United Methodist church for over 50 years where they served in multiple roles.
Bob loved golfing with his son Mark and regular Tuesday/Thursday buddies at Otis Park GC. In recent years he was playing some of the best golf of his life, including occasionally shooting below his age.
Bob retired from Crane after working as a systems analyst for 30 years.
In 2019, Bob and Liz moved to Gentry Park in Bloomington where they enjoyed attending St. Mark's United Methodist church and multiple artistic performances at IU.
Bob was an amazing father that taught his children how to treat others with kindness and treat all God's children equally. His children, Jill, Mark and Kay will always miss him. Bob loved the Pacers, the Colts, the St. Louis Cardinals and following the PGA with Liz.
He leaves behind his wife and children, 2 sons-in-law, Rod and Troy, 2 granddaughters, Julia and Emma, his sister Susie and her husband Bill of Lexington, KY, 3 nephews and his sister-in-law, Georgianna Temple of Louisville, KY.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Terry and his in-laws, W.T. and Mary Hall. A service for Bob will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Friday January 17th, 2025, at 11am and will be followed by a Celebration of Life.

Charles Elmer Randolph
MITCHELL – Charles Elmer Randolph, 77, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at Springs Valley Meadows.
Born June 15, 1947, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Arlis Logan and Imogene (Baringer) Randolph. He married Bettina Rose Jaggers on April 21, 1967 and she preceded him in death December 17, 2016.
Charles retired as a forklift operator at Otis Elevator. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 250. Charles loved racing and going to the casino.
Surviving are his daughter, Jodi Randolph of Orleans; grandchildren, Cheyanna, D.J., Lacie, and Alicea; several great-grandchildren; and siblings, Anita Arlene Davis of East Oolitic, Arlis Duane Randolph of Mitchell, Debbie Henson of Oolitic, Sheila Randolph of Indianapolis, Denise Ritchison of Mitchell, and Brian Randolph of Mitchell.
His parents; wife; children, Darren Randolph, Jason Wyatt Randolph, and Dena LeKay Randolph; and brother, Ernie Randolph, preceded him in death.

Louis Eugene Risley
BEDFORD – Louis Eugene Risley, 87, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at his residence.
Born January 1, 1938, in Petersburg, he was the son of Delmar Risley and Mabel (McCary) Jenne.
Louis was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was proud of his service. He worked for the railroad and as a truck driver. Louis loved playing euchre and spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing and was known for his fish fries.
Surviving are his children, Misti (Greg) Bay of Bedford, Amanda (Robert) Cummings of Bedford, and Brian (Celeste) Ream of Bedford; grandchildren, Mary Caitlin Moore, Cassie Moore, Chesney Bay, Braxton (Kaity) Cummings, Kendalyn (Jacob) Sowders, Treyton Ream, Brantley Ream, and Varah Ream; great-grandchildren, Daniel “Danny Boy”, Kaizer, and Amelia “Millie”; and several brothers and sisters.

LulaBelle Baker Owens

LulaBelle Baker Owens, a beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on January 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth and cherished memories. She was 84 years old.
Born February 27, 1940, in Williams, IN, LulaBelle was the youngest daughter of Perry and Evelene Baker. They preceded her in death. She shared a wonderful childhood with her siblings, Susie Weathers, Perry Baker, Jr., Treasa Stalcup, Marilyn Goff, Iva Baker, and Scotty Baker. All but Iva have preceded her in death.
LulaBelle married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Donald Owens on November 25, 1959, and he preceded her in death. They had 4 children, Kelli (Clark), Sherri (Mike), Donald (Juli), Stephanie (Robby); 6 grandchildren, Audrey, Anna, Joshua, Nicholas, Caleb and Jordan; 5 great grandchildren, Adalee, Easton, Lula, Langston and Baby Boy (expected in April). There was nothing more important in life to LulaBelle than her family.
LulaBelle was a happy person with a big, infectious laugh. She was a hard worker her whole life, from hand milking cows before school to the work she put into her home, garden and flowers. To LulaBelle, the most beautiful place on earth was her home in Williams.
LulaBelle loved playing games, word games in particular, watching basketball, singing and talking. She never met a stranger. She was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and held to his principles of being a loving servant to her family and others. Her family will miss LulaBelle but are content with knowing she is at peace resting with God.

Bedford – Velma Joyce Teter, 87, of Bedford, passed away at 2:02 am on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born November 21, 1937, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Earl and Vena (Brown) Johnson. She married Karl Teter on August 11, 1978, and he preceded her in death on October 9, 2024. She had been a health care worker and clerical worker at Pages, 3-D, Wheeler-Fouch and the Dana Corp. She was the co-owner of the Pet Corner, a member of the Free Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include four children, Paul Dorsett (Nancy), Nancy Stancombe (Stephen), Cheryl Hammond (Greg), all of Bedford, and Adrian Dorsett, of West Baden; three step-children, Bruce Teter (Christy), of Missouri, Kelly Teter, of Tipton, and Gwen Gilliam (Jeff), of Atlanta, IN; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; her parents; a grandson, Derek Stancombe; seven siblings, Donald, Dwight and Leon Johnson, Delight Woodsmall, Norma Edington, Venita Prunty and Pat Reynolds.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Adam Strauser and Reed Beard officiating. James Hubert Workman
MITCHELL – James Hubert Workman, 98, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at his residence.
Born January 17, 1926, in Mitchell, he was the son of Virgil and Elsie (Woods) Workman. He married Dorothy Ruth Mundy on November 16, 1946, and she preceded him in death December 12, 2017.
Jim was a mechanic for many years and loved tinkering in his garage. He especially liked to work on dune buggies and Volkswagens. Jim was a jack-of-all-trades that built several houses and enjoyed landscaping. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion Post 250, where he was a past commander. Jim was also a member of the VFW Post 9107.
Surviving are his children; Marilyn (Jim) Workman-Harkness of Mitchell, Mike Workman of Mitchell, and Myra (Darren) Smith of Bedford; grandchildren; Candace (Matt) Medlock, Devin Smith, Derek Smith, Dustin Smith, Jori Workman, and Jacey Bundy; and brother, Paul Virgil Workman of Newark, Ohio; 14 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
His parents; wife; son, Mark Duane Workman; and siblings, Charles Workman, Bud Workman, Catherine Gosnaski, Ruth Shelton, Betty Overton, and Margaret Workman, preceded him in death.

Cathy Lynn Hughett, 66, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at her residence. Born November 30, 1958, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Kenneth Johnson and Virginia (Donica) Grissom.
Cathy married Brian Scott Hughett on September 30, 2000, and he survives. Cathy was a Bedford North Lawrence graduate with the class of 1977.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Cathy is her husband, Brian Scott Hughett; stepdaughter, Brittany S. Hughett, of Bedford; two sisters, Betty (Clifford) Grissom, of Mitchell, and Linda Gregory, of Bedford; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Johnson and Virginia (Donica) Grissom; and two brothers, Larry Lee and Terry Lee.

Suzanne Orr
Suzanne Orr, born on July 24, 1966, in Albion, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her residence in Bedford, Indiana, on January 8, 2025. She was 58 years old.
Suzanne was the beloved daughter of Ruby Tomlinson (Ramey) and Billy Reed, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her grandparents and two brothers, Devon Hall and Darryl Hall. Suzanne is lovingly remembered by her husband of 23 years, Gary Orr; her three children, Ashley Polk (David George), Shayna Thompson (Evan), and Jackson Orr; and five cherished grandchildren: Eli Easterday, Treyton Easterday, Norah George, Otis Thompson, and June Thompson. She is also survived by her brother Kelly Reed; her sisters Lisa Hall and Teresa Reed; and her nephew Rydell Hall.
Suzanne found joy in life’s simple pleasures—listening to music, attending services at Hillcrest Christian Church, and spending time with her family. Her kindness, friendliness, and empathy left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
A devoted wife, mother, mamaw, sister, and friend, Suzanne will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.

MITCHELL – Sherry Lynn Neeley, 68, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at IU Health Hospice House.
Born August 18, 1956, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Ronald Chastain and Phyllis Ruth (Hardman) Ridge.
Surviving are her children, Jason Bennett of Mitchell, Bryan Ridge of Bedford, and Kyle Bennett of Bedford; grandchildren, Domanick, Gage, Ethan, Becklynn, Colton, Chole, Abby, and Hadley; brother, Chris Chastain; sister, Terry Whitinger of Indianapolis; and uncle, Marvin Hardman of Leipsic.

Brian D. Wade
July 10, 1955 – January 4, 2025
Brian D. Wade, 69, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born July 10, 1955, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of James A. “Tink” and Martha J. (Alhorn) Wade.
He married Karen D. Roberts-Bundy on June 18, 1977, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, and she survives. He was a lifetime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and attended St. Vincent Catholic School through 8th grade. A 1973 graduate of Bedford High School, he went on to attend Vincennes University, and then went to work at GM Powertrain until his retirement in 2022. He was a member of UAW Local 440, as a Document 46 Internationally appointed Representative over the Work and Family Program.
He was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Brian loved to hunt, and spend time in the woods, he was also an expert at shooting Sporting Clays. At one time, he raised German Shorthair Pointer bird dogs and loved to guide bird hunts with his dogs. He loved all animals, especially their Toy Poodle, Luna. In recent years, he became a champion of Feral Cats, capturing them to get them spayed and neutered, and then continuing to feed and care for them.
Brian is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Karly (Lacey) Wade of Madras, OR, and their children, Kai and Jake; son, Kyle (Amber Nelson) Wade of Indianapolis, IN, and their children, Helena and Mitia; sisters, Linda Wade and Susan (Brandon) Whitehouse of Fishers, IN; brothers, Jim (Mary) Wade of Washington, IN, and Barry (Carla) Wade of Bedford, IN; nieces, Jessica (John) Howell and their children, Izzy and Jackson of Washington, IN, Katie Whitehouse of Fishers, IN, and nephew, Zach Whitehouse of Fishers, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, “Tink” and Martha Wade; and his brother, Mark Alan Wade.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will also be at the church on Saturday, from 9:00AM – 10:30AM with the Rosary being prayed at 10:30AM.

Sharon Kay Mathis, 78, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on January 04, 2025, at the Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown. She was born on August 6, 1946, to the late Raymond Payton and Dorothy Arthur Payton. She married Robert “Bob” Mathis on June 11, 1966, in Johnson County, Indiana, and he preceded her in death in 2014.
Sharon loved to play bingo, cook, bake, and watch old John Wayne westerns, but most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Mathis; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 North Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana, on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM with Rev. James Rodriguez officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 11:00AM – 1:00 PM, at Burkholder Chapel. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Christopher “Chris” Shaun Fitzpatrick
MITCHELL – Christopher “Chris” Shaun Fitzpatrick, 54, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, at his residence.
Born May 24, 1970, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, he was the son of John Fitzpatrick and Karen (Minor) Hommelson. He married Teesa Williams on August 30, 2016 and she survives.
Chris was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a submariner for 8 years. He worked for White River Coal as a coal miner and later Net Shape in Campbellsburg. Chris was a member of the American Legion Post No. 250. He was a much loved son, husband, and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Teesa Fitzpatrick of Mitchell; children, Kelsie (Tyler) Guthrie of Bedford, Kassidie Fitzpatrick of St. Louis, Missouri, Kourtnie Fitzpatrick of Bedford, Wyatt Fitzpatrick of Imperial, Missouri, Olivia (Jake) Smith of Hillsboro, Missouri, Yvonne (Kevin) Rice of Festus, Missouri, Brad (Alise) Edmonds of St. Clair, Missouri, Darby (Matt) Cooley of Wenatchee, Washington, and Dillon (Morgan) Pastors of Madison, Maine; fourteen grandchildren; brother, Kelly (April) Fitzpatrick of Opdyke, Illinois; and father, John (Pam) Fitzpatrick of Illinois.
His mother and grandparents preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bedford – Linda A. Parker, 63, of Bedford, passed away at 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at her residence.
Born June 2, 1961, in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of Leopold J. and Carol L. (Miller) Eicle. She was a flyer for the Times-Mail and attended Momentum Community Church.
Survivors include three children, Debbie Craig, Caren Parker and Eddie Parker, all of Bedford; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Rodman and Donna Boone. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gary and Dave Eicle; a sister, Sandy Backenstone; a daughter, Erica Parker; her mother-in-law, Barbara Parker; a son-in-law, Travis Craig.
Graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 10th in the Patton Hill Cemetery with Pastor Reno Bates officiating. Burial will follow. Bedford- Etta R. Hall, 87, of Bedford, passed away at 11:50 am on January 5, 2025, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born May 16, 1937, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Onis and Lelah L. (White) Gore. Etta was a retired machine operator at PTG in Mitchell. She attended the Masonic Temple and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include sons, Jim Hicks, of Bedford, Doug Hall (Tammi), of Bedford, Scott Hall (Maxine), of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Jessica Lybrook, Erica Hall, Macy Hicks, Tyson Hall, and Daisy Hicks, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, companion Bob Hicks, three brothers, Charlie, Banty, and Gene Gore
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery in Silverville. Oolitic- John R. “Bob” Sharr, of Oolitic, passed away at 5:50 pm on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born January 7, 1927, he was the son of Shirley and Pearl (Kirk) Sharr. He married Helen Wray on August 3, 1953, and she preceded him in death. He was the owner of Bob’s Market in Oolitic and a farmer. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the Army Horse Calvary. He was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church, Oolitic Kiwanis and Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill Skillman (Stanley) and Jane Grissom (Mike), all of Oolitic; four grandchildren, Brian Skillman (Trish), Mandy Green (Chris), Kimberly Lanham (Matt), and John Grissom; four great grandchildren, Gavin Green, Harper Skillman, Stella Lanham, and Christian Skillman. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, Jim and Harold; four sisters, Bernice Ritter, Norma Bartlett, Barbera Bartlett, and Ruby Cracraft.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Thursday, January 9th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Richard Tallman and Pastor Taylor Quinley officiating. Donald Cecil Mahan
Donald Cecil Mahan, 89, died at his home in Salem surrounded by family and went home to be with his Lord on January 3, 2025. He was born December 3, 1935 to Lewie Cecil and Goldie Mae (Grow) Mahan in Bedford, IN. He married his high school sweetheart Nancy Louise Whalen April 30, 1955 and they were blessed with three precious daughters, Kim, Cindy and Fran.
He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954 and Indiana Central Business College with an accounting degree in 1968. He found Jesus July 4th, 1960 at Tulip Street Christian Church in Mitchell and later served as deacon and elder. He was an ordained minister with a passion for small country churches and the elderly. The Lord called him to pastor New Union Christian Church in Bedford, 1969-1970, Mt. Hebron Church of Christ in Salem, 1972-1975, Fishing Creek Chapel in Mitchell, 1978-1986, Heltonville Christian Church in Heltonville, 1987-1992, Saltillo Christian Church in Campbellsburg, 2003-2006, Mt. Carmel in Campbellsburg, 2010 - 2015. While serving these churches he worked as an accountant at Deterling Synkowski CPA Firm in Bloomington, Royal Chevrolet in Bloomington, M & E Honda in Bedford, and Hancock Construction in Mitchell. He worked and retired in 2000 from GE in Bloomington. In between his full time serving churches he also did revivals, filled in at various churches, performed weddings and many funerals. He did interim pasturing at Walnut Street Christian Church in Bloomington and Sugar Creek Christian Church in Campbellsburg. He was a member of Carter’s Creek Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of 69 years, daughters, Kimmala Jane Johnson of Rolla, MO, Cynthia Jo Seaver (Gregory) of Jeffersonville, IN and Fran Renee’ Bixler (Charles) of Pekin, IN. They were blessed with ten grandchildren Elizabeth Ann Markham (Matt) of Roanoke, VA; Nathaniel Galen Johnson (Kenedie) of Sitka, AK; Sarah Abigail Mellas (Nathan) of Lenoir City, TN; Seth Gabriel Johnson (Cate) of Rolla, MO; Hannah Ruth Johnson of Maryville, TN; Timothy Joel Johnson of Rolla, MO; Tiffani Lynn Purdue (Joe) of Ellettsville, IN; David Lee Bixler of Gosport, IN; Jonathan David Bixler (Alexis) of Salem, IN; Joshua Andrew Bixler (Le Ann) of Pekin, IN and twelve great grandchildren, Ariana and Kevin Markham; Evan, Elliana and Lillian Mellas; Adeline, Bryce and Dane Johnson; Anakin, Oliver and Lincoln Bixler; and Mason Pardue. He is also survived by his sister Brenda Sue Harris of Daphne, AL and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Galen Johnson and brother-in-law David Whalen.
Viewing and service will be held at Cresthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens 3522 Dixie Hwy (Old 37), Bedford, IN 47421. Viewing will be on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 4-8pm, and on Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM. MITCHELL – Sandra Jane Leatherman, 68, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at her friend’s residence.
Born December 2, 1956, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harry and Doris (Survance) Russell. Sandra married Jack D. Leatherman on March 31, 2001 and he preceded her in death on April 4, 2023.
Sandra was a 1974 graduate of Mitchell High School. She worked at Dana Corporation, and at The Keg and Bass Liquor stores. Sandra loved her horses, goats, and her dogs. She was a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church.
Surviving are her friends and caregivers, Betty and Dale Briner of Mitchell; brother, Alan Russell of Mitchell; step-mother, Mary Lee Russell; step-brothers, Steve Lofland and Randy Lofland; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Roger Allen officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Bedford – Glenda Yvonne Fisher, 81, of Bedford, passed away at 4:54 am on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born October 3, 1943, in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Elmer G. and Mildred “Leola” (Barrett) Harrell. She married James A. Fisher on June 10, 1962, and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2020. She was a secretary for Homosassa Christian Church in Florida and had been a Tupperware sales representative for 30+ years. She was a volunteer coordinator at Hoosier Christian Village and owner of Bedford Lawn & Garden Center. She was a member of the Heltonville Christian Church and attended New Union Christian Church. As the wife of a pastor, she was affiliated with many churches in Lawrence and Jackson Counties. Additionally, she was a 50+ year member of the Leesville Order of the Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron numerous times.
Survivors include a son, Mark Fisher and wife, Crystal, of Bedford; a daughter, Pamela Adam and husband, Brandon, of Lexington, IN; four grandchildren, Travis Fisher and wife, Jamie, of Odon, Trista Sego and husband, Camden, of Bloomington, Victoria O’Connell and Kylie O’Connell both of Lexington, IN; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Lee Sego and Reid Lee Fisher; a brother, James Harrell and wife, Brenda, of Seymour; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister-in-law, Sheila Harrell.

Williams – Ryan “Jed” Zumhingst, 70, of Williams, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.
Born August 10, 1954, in Seymour, he was the son of Orville Kenneth and Doris Jeanette (Stroud) Zumhingst. He married Melanie Hanners on May 29, 1999, and she survives. He was a mechanic and owner of Jed’s Auto Service for over 30 years where he touched and helped many people. Recently he worked at Rural King and Advance Auto. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Surviving with his wife, Melanie are children, Tina Jones and husband, Aaron, of Bedford, Angela Allen and husband, Tony, of Oolitic, James Zumhingst and wife, Jamie, of Ft. Liberty, NC, Emilee Hannum, of Bedford, Ahna Jaime and husband, Juan Carlos, of Bloomington; step-sons, Evan Burns and wife, Josefa, of Chesapeake, VA and Anthony Burns and wife, Karrie, of Shoals; sisters, Linda Taylor, of Williams, Geri Ann Daugherty, of Avoca, and Debra Zumhingst, of Bedford; eleven grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David.

Arthur Edward Van Arsdel
Arthur Edward Van Arsdel, better known as Sonny and locally referred to as the 'Goat Man,’ is preceded by his mother Ruby Branam Strain and his father, Arthur Sr. He graduated from Bloomington High School and the IU Law Enforcement Academy. He began his career as GM of Pepsi-Cola of Bloomington then the next 30 years in real estate. He then worked for Marsh in Indianapolis managing underperforming VP stores. A lover of Hoosiers sports, he was also a scratch golfer and enjoyed riding his bike as late as fall ‘23. After retirement, he enjoyed his country home in Heltonville with his pet goats, Waylon & Willie, and his cat Miss Kitty. He is survived by his only daughter Tonya Rae Figg and his grandson Riley Joseph Figg. His family loves him and he will be missed by all.
