Phillip Gene Harris
SHOALS – Phillip Gene Harris, 60, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born June 11, 1966, in Bedford, he was the son of Frederick Marvin and Phyllis Carol (Jones) Harris. He married Denise Ellen Jones on January 16, 1998, and she survives.
Surviving are his wife, Denise Ellen Harris of Shoals; children, Hunter Ray Harris of Bedford, Gene Alen Harris of Tennessee, Shyla McCloud of Ellettsville, and Krista Harris of Tennessee; numerous grandchildren; one great-grandchild; parents, Frederick and Phyllis Harris of Bedford; and brother, Frederick Marvin (Carol) Harris, Jr. of Bedford.
His grandson, Raymond “Ray Ray” McCloud, and several aunts and uncles preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen, with a graveside service held at a later date at Bryantsville Cemetery.

George A. Brinegar

George A. Brinegar, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 20, 1942, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Luther and Josie (Younger) Brinegar. He married Marcia Adams on March 22, 1969, and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2019.
George was a lifetime farmer and, along with his wife Marcia, milked cows for 55 years. He attended Shawswick High School and was of the Christian Faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda (Rick) Randolph-Rainey; his companion, Doris Dalton; a step-daughter, Christie Crider; a step-son, Steve (Cyndi) Dalton; grandchildren, Hannah Dalton, Danielle (Brian Burke) Todd, Derrick Crider, and Brittany (Chris) Delucia; great-grandchildren, Chloe Todd and Everly Delucia; a sister, Mary Lawson; a niece, Beth Ann Lawson; along with several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and step- great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia; a step-son, Robert Dalton; a granddaughter, Ashley; a sister, Martha Johnson; and one brother-in-law, Dick Lawson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes with Pastor Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Bedford. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, and from 10:00 AM until the hour of service on Thursday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.

William Joseph “Joe” Duncan
MITCHELL – William Joseph “Joe” Duncan, 78, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2026, at his residence.
Born September 20, 1948, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William H. and Rosella (Lawrence) Duncan. He married Elaine Barrett on August 3, 1968 and she survives.
Joe began his career working with Teke Burton Trailer Sales, before spending over 50 years as a mechanic with Mitchell Motor Sales. Additionally, he was a part of the City of Mitchell Fire Department for 32 years, serving as Assistant Fire Chief. Joe was a part of the Mitchell City Park Board and was instrumental in building the Community Building. He had many hobbies including: hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR races and football, and listening to polka music.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine Duncan of Mitchell; sons, William “Billy” Duncan of Mitchell and Douglas Michael (Robin) Duncan of Springville; grandchildren, Tanner (Chloe) Duncan of Bedford and Donovan Scott King of Springville; great-grandchildren, Liam Duncan, Hank Duncan, and Edith Duncan; and siblings, Larry (Glenda) Duncan of Mitchell, Roger Duncan of Mitchell, Barney Duncan of Bedford, and Tyler (Tammy) Duncan of Mitchell.
His parents; son, Jason Duane Duncan; siblings, Bonnie Torrance, John Sanders, and Paul Duncan; and in-laws, Larry Torrance and Connie Duncan, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Steve Warren officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service, Tuesday, at the funeral home. The firefighter final call ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. prior to the service.

June Helen Hines
March 12, 1932 – September 25, 2026
June Helen Hines, 94, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 25, 2026.
June was born on March 12, 1932, in Peru, Indiana, to Walter Daniel and Violet Olive (Rentzel) VonFange. She was a 1950 graduate of Seymour High School.
On July 21, 1950, June married the love of her life, Lloyd Francis Hines, in Seymour, Indiana. They shared sixty-nine years of marriage before his passing.
June was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Seymour. She worked as the bookkeeper for her husband and his business while also devoting herself to being a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
June treasured time spent with her family. She especially loved doing activities with her children and grandchildren and taking trips to Florida with her girls. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and playing euchre. An avid reader, June looked forward to visiting the library.
June is survived by her son, Fred (Jan) Hines; daughters, Linda (Thomas) Harleman, Laura (Joe) Marsh, and LouAnn (Rick) Engel; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Violet VonFange; her husband, Lloyd Hines; her daughter, Karen Kay Hines; her brother, Dan VonFange; and her sister, Marguerite Findley.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut St., Seymour, Indiana, with Kevin Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday, September 28, 2026, also at the Burkholder Chapel.

Wanda Annagene "Jean" Sanders-Roberts
September 11, 1928 – September 24, 2026
Wanda Annagene "Jean" Sanders-Roberts, of Bedford, IN, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Redcrest Hospice House in Bloomington, IN. She was 98 years old.
Wanda was born September 11, 1928, in Clarksville, Johnson County, Arkansas, to Thomas H. and Ruby (Harvey) Griffin, both deceased. She was the third youngest of 11 children, with six brothers and four sisters preceding her in death, including Marvin Griffin and Dorothy Arnold, both of Bedford. The others lived outside of the area.
She married John Gilbert Sanders on December 25, 1947, and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1981. They were blessed with four children, Tom (Pam) Sanders, Marilyn B. Sanders, James (Kathy) Sanders and David Alan Sanders. She later married Lyle E. Roberts, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2009. She was also preceded in death by two sons, David Alan Sanders in 1964 and James E. Sanders in 2007; and granddaughter, Kristi A. Sanders-Miller.
In addition to her surviving children, left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Aaron (Angie) Sanders, Matt (Libby) Sanders, Gina (Mark) Thompson, and Debbie Sanders; her 13 great grandchildren, Cameron Sanders, Jake Miller, Cole Sanders, Calvin (Nevi) Sanders, Savannah Thompson, Davis (Emma) Miller, Olivia Sanders, Madeline Sanders, Summer (Eli) Buckels, Lily Thompson, Evan Potter, Oliver Sanders and Gabriel Dusleag; and two great-great granddaughters, Eliza and Izabel.
Jean leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories and lessons that will continue through generations. Her faith, kindness, generosity and love for her family will never be forgotten. May she rest peacefully knowing she was deeply loved and greatly missed.

Gwenlyn Kay Stigall

Gwenlyn Kay Stigall, 79, of Bedford, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at IU Health Bedford Hospital, with her family by her side.
Gwen was born September 17, 1947, in Bedford, IN, to Hayden Gwin and Wanda Lucille (Houchin) Stigall. She was a 1965 graduate of Fayetteville High School.
Gwen began her working career at the Bloomington Water Company, where she worked for several years. She later spent more than 20 years as an over-the-road truck driver before going to work in Human Resources for Indiana University in Bloomington, where she remained until her retirement.
Gwen was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1095 in Bloomington. She loved life and enjoyed cooking, decorating her home, shopping, and going out to eat with family and friends. She also cherished caring for her beloved fur babies. Gwen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gwen is survived by her sisters, Kathy (Jim) Staley of Oolitic, IN, and Mona (Rick) Lewis of Brownstown, IN; her aunt, Jeanne Houchin of Vincennes, IN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her wonderful caregivers, Emily (Michael) Anderson; and her beloved fur baby, Shadow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hayden and Wanda Stigall; her sister, Becky Fowler and her husband, Bob; her nephew, Jeremy Fowler; and her fur baby, Zoee.
Cremation has been chosen. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 2, 2026 at Hillcrest Christian Church, 1130 Hillcrest Rd., Bedford, IN 47421 With Pastor Mark Fugate officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM till time of service on Friday, October 2, 2026, also at the church.

Carla H. Abel, 85, of Bedford, passed away on September 21, 2026, at the Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born September 24, 1940, in Bedford, she was the daughter of George and Ernestine (Blackburn) Hitchcock. She married Norman E. Abel on February 13, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he preceded her in death.
Carla graduated from Bedford High School and attended Indiana University and Ivy Tech. She was a service representative for the Social Security Administration and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Altrusa Club.
She enjoyed attending church services, doing crossword and word search puzzles, cross-stitching, and dining with her friends.
Surviving to cherish Carla’s memory is her son, Michael E. (Juanita) Fields of Springville; her daughter, Carrie (Ed) Bunch of Spencer; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Abel; her parents, George and Ernestine Hitchcock; her son, Jeffrey D. Fields; her brothers, Donald, Thomas, George, and John Hitchcock; and her sisters, Nadine Hendershot and E. Joan Griffith.

Charles Ray Bliss

Charles Ray Bliss, 74, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Majestic Care of Bedford. He was born in Cecil County, Bainbridge, Maryland, on November 9, 1951, to the late Billy Ray Bliss and Beulah May Bliss. He married Rebecca Anne Alhorn in 1985, and she survives.
Charles was of the Methodist faith and attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He graduated from Bedford High School, with the class of 1970, and completed some college. Charles was an Indiana State Police DOT Inspector for 41 years. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and his pets. He enjoyed working on projects around his log cabin home. He also loved going to see his grandparents’ farm on the Ohio River in New Amsterdam, Indiana. He enjoyed his well-known Army truck, John Deere tractors, Steve Kinser sprint car racing, NASCAR, and IU sports. He also loved country music and bluegrass.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Rebecca Bliss; his daughter, Elizabeth (Matthew) Martindale of Bloomington; his son, Andrew W. Bliss of Xenia, Ohio; his grandchildren, Nicholas Martindale, Lydia Martindale, Alexander Martindale, and Atticus Martindale; his aunt and uncle, Norma and Theodore Cotner of New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Beulah Bliss;, and his brother, Glen Bliss.

Linda Faye Courtright
FRENCH LICK – Linda Faye Courtright, 84, formerly of Mitchell, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Springs Valley Meadows.
Born December 17, 1941, in Gatchel, she was the daughter of Woodrow and Anna Lucile (Crowe) Alvey. She married Kenneth Edmond Courtright on May 23, 1959 and he preceded her in death January 16, 2010.
Linda was a homemaker, but worked for Pluto Corp. for several years. She enjoyed reading, flowers, and traveling with her husband. Linda was a member of Fairview Church in Shoals.
Surviving are her children, Sherry Lynn (Jake) Zehr of Dubois and Penny Ann (Tony) Robbins of French Lick; seven grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry (Karen) Alvey of Paoli and Rita Eaton of Bloomington.
Her parents; husband; and siblings, Donnie Alvey and Jerry Alvey, preceded her in death.

Robert Morris Rudolph
MITCHELL – Robert Morris Rudolph, 55, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born January 25, 1971, in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of Alan and Georgia (Smith) Rudolph.
Robert worked in hospitality and restaurant management. He was a musician and singer in a band, and he loved music more than anything in the world. One of his favorite bands was Stryper. Robert also enjoyed fishing, and was an Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys fan. He was of the Christian faith.
Surviving are his children, Zachary (Megan) Rudolph of Mitchell, Skylar Rudolph of Mitchell, and Taylor (Brandon Phelix) Rudolph of Bedford; grandchildren, Gabriel Wood, Ruby Rudolph, Ellie Rudolph, and Isla Rudolph; father, Alan Rudolph of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and his significant other, Jennifer Ashba.
His mother preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Charles David Box
BEDFORD – Charles David Box, 74, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born July 25, 1952, in Mitchell, he was the son of Winford Perry and Valorie (Hardin) Box. He married Mary Gertrude Clem on July 5, 1980 and she preceded him in death January 24, 2010.
Charles had worked in construction for many years and retired from Foamcraft, Inc. One of his favorite things to do was spend time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Michelle (Anthony) Balentine of Oregon, John (Susan) Thomas of Florida, Debra (Hugh) Hagemier of Martinsville, and Jennifer Box of Martinsville; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and siblings, Mary Stevens of Mitchell, Lois (Floyd) Graves of Mitchell, and Jackie Box of Mitchell.
His parents; wife; grandson, Josh Conley; siblings, Chester Box, Betty Sue Schultz, and Jerry Box; and brother-in-law, Larry Stevens, preceded him in death.

Robert “Bob” Smith

Robert “Bob” Smith, 98, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford, Indiana. He was born on January 30, 1928, in South Whitley, Indiana to Everett and Fannie (Fennig) Smith. He married Helen Marie (Henning) Smith on June 8, 1950, and she preceded him on February 15, 2022.
Bob retired as an Elementary Principal from Muncie Community Schools. He had a master’s degree in education and held a superintendent’s license. Bob was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford.
He loved working on his timber farm, camping, sports and spending time with his family.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Bob are his five children, Karyn Price, John (Maurya) Smith, Diane Smith, Dan (John McAninch) Smith, and Andrew (Jane) Smith; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Cameron) Anderson, Samantha (Billy) Wellman, Zachary (Heather) Smith, Taylor (Mason Patterson) Smith, and Blair (Rhett) Hiestand; his great grandchildren, Brecken Anderson, Zayden Anderson, Calvin Laughlin, Winnie Laughlin, Emmett Anderson, Bo Wellman, Baker Wellman, Pennie Wellman, Raegan Smith, Brooklynn Patterson, Baby Patterson, Maverick Hiestand and Maggie Hiestand; along with one nephew and two nieces.
He was preceded by his parents, Everett and Fannie (Fennig) Smith; his wife, Helen Marie (Henning) Smith; one sister, Betty Thrall; and one brother, Hugh Smith.

Linda D. Sturgeon, 81, of Williams, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Majestic Care of Bedford. She was born in Lawrence County on October 14, 1944, to the late Reno Blake and Eva (Clark) Blake. She married Hulan Sturgeon in 1999, and he survives.
Linda was of the Baptist faith and was a hardworking woman who found joy in caring for her animals and spending time with those she loved. She had a special love for her family, who meant more to her than anything and remained at the heart of her life.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Hulan Sturgeon; sons, John Smith Jr. and James Smith; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reno and Eva Blake; brother, Ronnie Blake; and three sisters, Joan Blake, Ina Feathers, and Juanita Morris.

Jerry Lee Floerke
September 11, 1954 – September 13, 2026
Jerry Lee Floerke, 72, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 11, 1954, Jerry was the son of Myra Mae and the late LeRoy “Bud” Floerke. He married Tera Deckard Floerke, April 7, 2001, and she survives. Jerry was a 1973 graduate of Fayetteville High School. He worked for the Lawrence County Sheriffs Department as a Deputy from 1979 – 1986. He retired from IN/KY Carpenters Local Union #301. He was a former member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM, and The Scottish Rite.
Jerry was a devoted husband and loving father. He enjoyed helping others and camping, fishing, and hunting. He will be remembered for his fun-loving personality. He really enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed vacationing, especially to Jamaica. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
Jerry learned at 58 he had early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Despite this difficult diagnosis at such a young age, Jerry continued to face each day and challenge with a positive attitude, showing strength, courage, and a determination to make the most of every moment.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Tera; his mother, Myra Mae Floerke, of Bedford; his brother, Jim (Katie) Floerke of Williams; his sisters, Claudia Aycock, Patty Poole, and Karen (Doyle) James; his four children, Robin (Dave) Smith, Jeremy (Melanie) Floerke, Jesse Floerke and Jerred Floerke; grandchildren, Corbin, Brylie, Alex, Garrett, Cheznie, Kaitlynn, Trenton, Sophia, and Alex. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Born October 18, 1957, in Bedford, she was the daughter of William “Bill” McLaughlin and Betty (Lane) Kautz. Mary married Michael “Mike” Hughett on February 23, 1974 and he preceded her in death December 28, 2017.
Mary had been a waitress since she was 14 years old, including working at Joe’s Restaurant in Mitchell. She always enjoyed life and was quick to smile. She enjoyed going to the beach and she loved her dogs. Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Melissa “Missy” (Johnathan) Shawler of Pekin and Michael (Amelia) Hughett of Orleans; grandchildren, Charity (Tylor) Russell of Mitchell, Corey (Alyssa) Fullen of Orleans, and Mikey Hughett of Orleans; great-grandchildren, Tinlee Russell of Mitchell, Winnie Russell of Mitchell, and Gavin Russell of Mitchell; four brothers and one sister; and Joey, her faithful four-legged companion.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Cremation has been chosen with a private graveside service held at a later date.

Johnny Freeland Edwards
Johnny Freeland Edwards, Jr., 68, of Bedford, passed away on September 8th, 2026.
Born November 2, 1957 in Lancaster, California, he was the son of Johnny F. Edwards and Maribelle Stafford Edwards Kast. He was a 1977 graduate of South Jefferson High School in Adams, New York. John joined the United States Marine Corps in June 1977, completing his basic training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
He spent much of his young life in the service of the USMC. He earned his wings in airborne school in 1978. John traveled to different duty stations throughout the world. Among his favorite was Okinawa, Japan, of which he shared many of his stories with the family. John’s favorite pastime was gaming and he could spend hours playing non-stop. He was an avid car enthusiast, with Ford as his favorite autos, and enjoyed building model cars in his spare time.
John is survived by his sisters, Sonia (Philip) Pruett of Bedford, Elvadean (Charles) Bickers of Bedford, and Lena Carmichael of Bedford; brothers, William Michael (Ronnie) Kast and Adam (Lori ) Kast; and multiple nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carmen Marie Edwards and Penny Lee Karnes; brother, Jean-Claude Kast; and brother-in-law, Richard Carmichael.
Cremation has been chosen with a Celebration of John’s Life to be held at a later date.

Betty Jane (Byrd) Pennington
Betty Jane (Byrd) Pennington, 98 of Bedford passed away on September 4, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford. Betty was born in Avoca on March 30, 1928, to Manuel Byrd and Thelma (McDonald) Byrd. Betty married Dale Pennington on April 17, 1948, and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2008.
Betty was a homemaker; she was a graduate of Needmore High School Class of 1946, she loved God, her family and friends, Betty attended Tabernacle of Praise and Crossroads Churches.
Survivors include two children, Jack (Cynthia) Pennington of Bedford, and Joan (Nicholas) Workman of Bedford, daughter-in-law, Dana Dillon, four grandchildren, Seth (Andrea) Myers, Michael (Sandy) Pennington, Diana (Joey) Stewart, and Andrew (Emily) Pennington, eight great grandchildren, Alissa Myers, Matthew Myers, Ethan Pennington, Micayla Swazay, Katelyn Stewart, Evan Stewart, Woodson Pennington, and Bowman Pennington, three great grandchildren, Francis Swazay, Anaya Pennington, and Elijah Pennington, two step grandchildren, Jacob Henderson, and Matthew Dillon, one sister, Phyllis Byrd Finley, one brother, Larry Dean (Shirley) Byrd.

Gregory Alan Terry, age 78, of Bowling Green, KY, formerly of Bedford and Shoals, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2026, at his residence.
Greg was born June 2, 1948, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Laverne Terry and the late Ruby (King) Terry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Cindy Terry; one son, Brent (Kelly) Terry; one daughter, Ashley Terry Willard; two granddaughters, Cassie Ratliff and Nicole Terry; one great-grandson, Emerson Busch; and two sisters, Auna Drake and Eva Cundiff. He is also survived by his two best friends, Beau and Bella, the puppies.
Greg graduated from Northwood Institute with a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing in 1971. After graduation he worked for his dad at Terry Ford Town in Shoals for over 13 years as a salesman, before taking over the family business.
Greg decided to sell the business and start working at NSWC Crane as a civilian for the Navy once his father’s health declined. He was a Logistics Management Specialist for over 33 years.
Greg was a member of United Methodist Church and was an active Freemason since 1971. He was a 32nd degree mason with the Shoals Masonic Lodge F&AM.
Greg was naturally an avid car lover since being around them growing up in the car business. His upmost favorite was a Corvette. His love for Corvettes brought him to ultimately move to Bowling Green, KY, to work part time for the Corvette Museum as a tour guide and in admissions. He worked there for five years before officially retiring.
He also was an avid boat enthusiast and loved spending time on the water in years past.
Greg’s wishes were to be cremated. A private graveside service at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals, IN, will take place at a later date.

Marjorie Bowden
MITCHELL – Marjorie Bowden, 101, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born March 29, 1925, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Claude and Lucy (Marley) Bridges. She married Russell Edward Bowden on August 28, 1943, and he preceded her in death May 20, 2010.
Marjorie was a 1942 graduate of Huron High School. She had been a homemaker and worked at Roberts Brass. Marjorie was a longtime member of Mitchell First Baptist Church and loved to attend. She also was an avid reader.
Survivors include her children, Teresa (Jim) Wray of Columbus, Marilyn (Bill) Brock of Mitchell, Duane Bowden of Shelbyville, and Scott (Linda) Bowden of Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Sharon Bowden of Nashville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Her parents; husband; son, Darryl Bowden; granddaughter, Tracy Bowden; and siblings, Deane Bridges and Eugene Bridges, preceded her in death.
A private graveside service will be held at Mitchell Cemetery with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating.

Robert Preston “Bobby” Slayton
HURON – Robert Preston “Bobby” Slayton, 81, passed away Friday, September 4, 2026, at Mitchell Manor.
Born July 13, 1945, in Orange County, he was the son of Charles Robert Slayton and Loretta (Stone) Kirk. He married Geneva Wright on March 24, 1968, and she survives.
Bobby worked in construction for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had been a member of the American Legion Post No. 250 and Bedford Moose Lodge No. 689. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially coon hunting. Bobby loved to visit with friends and family.
Surviving are his wife, Geneva Slayton of Huron; and daughters, Robin (Johnny) Knight of Huron and Marcella Sizemore of Oolitic; grandchildren, Shance (Lauren) Sizemore, Natasha (Dan) Scholl, Kerri (Tommy) Wilder, Tiffany (Jon) Keith, Ashley (Kris) Meadows, and Braxton (Gracelyn) Porter; and several great grandchildren.
His parents; son, Charles Robert Slayton; daughter, Loretta Langford; son-in-law, Robert Sizemore; and sisters, Rosalie Abels and Frances Lucille Swayze, preceded him in death.
Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9 in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Emmett Dalton officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Floyd Wilson
Floyd Wilson, 84, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. He was born on March 2, 1942, in Bedford, IN to the late Alex and Maggie (Morrow) Wilson. He married Brenda Terrell in 1981, and she survives.
Floyd was a diamond saw operator and a former member of the Charity Chapel Church. He loved fishing, hunting and taught his family how to work on cars.
Those surviving to cherish his memory include his wife, Brenda Wilson; three children, Emma (Shastain) Talbert, Cathy Wilson, and Rhonda (Mike) Collins; ten grandchildren, Jason Talbert, Shas Talbert, Daniel Talbert, Chelsie Talbert, Sabrina Deremiah, Loyd Wilson Jr., Carolyn Wilson, Brea Akins, Jasmine Dorsett, and Diamond Wilson; two great grandchildren, and one on the way; two sisters, Rosalee Wright and Kathy Wilson; along with several nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Maggie (Morrow) Wilson; two daughters, Joy Ellen and Cynthia Davis; one son, Loyd Wilson; five brothers, Carl, Cecil, Wendall, Chester and Earl Dean; five sisters, Dorothy, Doris, Zelma, Thelma and Emma Lou.
Graveside services for Floyd Wilson will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 11:00a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 10:00a.m. until 10:45a.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes.

William Kenneth “Kenny
MITCHELL – William Kenneth “Kenny” Merry, 93, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born February 3, 1933, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Wendall Richard and Dorothy Pauline (Tincher) Merry. He married Thelma May Bennett on May 16, 1955, and she preceded him in death.
Kenny was a 1953 graduate of Huron High School and was self-employed as a carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. In 2017 he was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce. Kenny was known for always having a great laugh.
Surviving are his children, Timothy (Teela) Merry of Mitchell and Tracy (Mark) Knoblock of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Brooke Merry, Dylan (Stephanie) Sullivan, Taylor (Justin) Baker, and Nicholas (Cassidy) Knoblock; great-grandchildren, Athena Merry, Cole Martin, Miriam Sullivan, Amelia “Millie” Sullivan, Coda Baker, Emily Baker, Alexandra Knoblock; and brother, Watson (Kay) Merry of Mitchell.
His parents and wife preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Burial will be at Bonds Chapel Cemetery.
