J. Stephen “Steve” Gill


February 6, 1940 – June 25, 2026

J. Stephen “Steve” Gill, 86, of Seymour, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, surrounded by his family.

Born on February 6, 1940, in Seymour, Indiana, he was the son of John Henry and Doris M. (Fox) Gill. Steve was a 1958 graduate of Shields High School in Seymour.

He was a businessman, owner and operator of Steve Gill Trucking and Excavating, co-owner of Gill Enterprises LLC and Real Estate, and a Jackson County Commissioner for over twenty years. While doing all those things, he worked for Cummins in maintenance for fifty-nine years before retiring in 2017. Steve loved and cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and hard work.

Steve was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post #1925 in Seymour, American Legion Post #89 in Seymour, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #655 in Seymour, and the Knights of Columbus in Seymour. He was an avid hunter and marksman. Steve enjoyed sport shooting with friends and skeet shooting, working hard, supporting his sons in their endeavors, and, later in life, watching his grandson’s sporting events and simply spending time at home with his family.

Steve is survived by his sons, Frederick S. “Fred” Gill of Seymour and Toby L. Gill of Seymour; his grandson, Camden Lopez Gill of Seymour; his sisters, Diane (Oscar) Villalvazo of Orange County, California, and Linda Trimpe of Seymour; his brother, Ted R. Gill of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Doris Gill; his wife, Janet Gill; and his brother-in-law, Richard Trimpe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with Father Daniel Staublin officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or Disabled American Veterans.

James D. “Jim” Swartz

April 30, 1943 – June 26, 2026

James D. “Jim” Swartz, 83, of Bedford, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital. Born April 30, 1943, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Herman and Nellie (Mayo) Newlin.

Jim worked at the LARC Center, Hardees and for Dr. Lucille Oswalt. He attended Needmore School and was a member of Gullett’s Creek Baptist Church and Fishing Creek Chapel. Jim loved going to church and playing the harmonica. He enjoyed his years working at the LARC Center and he never met a stranger, he was loved by many.

Surviving to cherish Jim’s memory are his three brothers, Kenny Swartz, Mike Swartz and Randy (Marlena) Swartz; four sisters, Rosamond (Bob) Kern, Shirley K. Terry, Elaine Kern, and Rita (Ronnie) Tarr; along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Herman Swartz and Nellie Newlin; step-father, Tom Newlin; and two siblings in infancy.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor Kyle Stewart and Pastor Billy Brim officiating. Everett “Ronald” Gentry

Everett “Ronald” Gentry, 81 of Bedford, formerly of Indianapolis passed away on Saturday June 20, 2026, at Cedar Creek of Bedford. Ronald was known by his nickname “Rooster”, he was born in Indianapolis on June 25, 1944, to Everett Leon Gentry and Lola R. (Doss) Gentry. Ronald retired from Chevrolet Truck & Bus in Indianapolis; he was United States Marine Corps veteran serving in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include two daughters, Angela (Jason) Beavers of Paoli, and Theresa (Mark) Robinson of Mitchell, four grandchildren, Nathan Liming, Alyssa Vandagrifft, Jason Beavers, II, and Lola Beavers, five great grandchildren.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Larry Gentry.

Rebecca K. Turpin

Rebecca K. Turpin, 72, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at her residence. Born September 10, 1953, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Earmy Lester and Juanita (Kinser) Eads.

She retired from the housekeeping department of Bloomington Hospital. Rebecca was of the Christian faith, loved spending time with family, being outside, animals, and always loved a good cup of coffee.

Surviving to cherish Rebecca’s memory are her daughters, Camisha (Bill) Bonney and Shawnda Turpin; her son, Tim (Kacy) Turpin; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and sisters, Marita (Tim) Bunch and Luetta (Mike) Patton.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Earmy Lester and Juanita Eads; brother, Danny Eads; and sister, Peggy Ratliff.

James Dale Hatfield

James Dale Hatfield, 73 of Bedford passed away on June 19, 2026, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. James was born in Bedford on February 3, 1953, to Oren Dale Hatfield and Dorothy Ann (Williams) Hatfield. James married Sheila (Spinks) Terrell on September 4, 2020, and she survives. James was a 1971 graduate of Bedford High School, he attended Western Kentucky University, the Moody Bible Institute, and received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. Jim was a Baptist minister for 25 years, he loved the Lord, his family, and people, he loved to play music and his harmonica. He enjoyed doing carpenter work, building, and fixing things. He worked at Sears, and currently was working at Bedford Home Furnishings, he was a member of Dive Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Hatfield of Bedford, his children, Jesika Hatfield of Crawfordsville, Jody Hatfield of Crawfordsville, Janel Hatfield of Crawfordsville, and Joel Hatfield of Oolitic, his siblings, Gail (Ron) Mundell of Terre Haute, Brenda (Jim) Adams of Coos Bay, Oregon, Timothy Hatfield of Oolitic, and David (Liz) Hatfield of Greenwood, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Angela Denise Rector, 59, of Springville, Indiana, passed away at her home on June 17, 2026. She was born in Lawrence County on March 21, 1967, to the late E. Dale Wells and Janet (Miller) Wells. On February 14, 2014, in Lawrence County, she married Jerome Rector, and he survives.

Angela graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University and was a spiritual healer.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband, Jerome Rector; her children, Bethany Ann (Rob) Wells, Joshua Paul Wells, and Landon Eric (Morgan Lee) Rector; stepchildren, Jonathon Rector, Joshua Rector, and James Rector; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Justin Dewayne Wells.

She was preceded in death by her parents, E. Dale Wells and Janet (Miller) Wells.

Jeremy L. Longbrake


December 3, 1975 – June 15, 2026

Jeremy L. Longbrake, 50, of Seymour, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026, at his home in Seymour, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 3, 1975, in Lorain, Ohio, he was the son of Mark Alvin Longbrake and Rita Renee (Richmond) Williams. Jeremy attended Seymour High School.

He worked as a construction and concrete worker for many years before becoming a factory worker and lead shift supervisor in factories in Seymour and Walesboro, where he worked for twenty-seven years. Jeremy loved and cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and hard work.

Jeremy enjoyed woodburning and pyrography, glass etching, camping, fishing, building things, working on cars, riding motorcycles, and simply spending time at home with his family.

Jeremy is survived by his wife, Shannon Longbrake of Seymour, IN; his children, Elena (David) Cooksey, Heather Altepeter, Blake Castro, Kylie (Matt) Fourman, Jamie (Caleb) Longbrake, Jocelyn Reynolds, Thomas Weddle, and bonus son Andy Hunter; his grandchildren, Ava, Rio, Gabrielle, Taygen, Scarlett, Gracelynn, Eleanor, Stevie, Lukas, and Leia; his father, Mark Alvin Longbrake; his mother, Rita Renee Williams; his brothers, Scott Longbrake, Curt Longbrake, and Nathan Williams; his sisters, Kathy (Jeremy) Robson and Torrie Longbrake; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Williams; his grandparents, Harold “Ray” and Lois Longbrake; and his grandfather, L.J. Richmond.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, with Jerel Richards officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes. Cremation rites have been chosen.

Carol Sue Wright

Fayetteville – Carol Sue Wright, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away on June 17, 2026, at her residence following a brief battle with cancer.

Born March 5, 1940, in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of Romia V. and Mabel M. (Todd) Mitchell. She married the love of her life, Standley Wright, on April 9, 1960, and he preceded her in death on September 14, 2024. She missed him every day. They were happily married for 64 years.

Carol graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1958. She worked at the Fayetteville Store from age 9 until starting to raise a family. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was guided in life by her Christian principles and her faith in God.

Carol loved gardening, knitting, sewing, and crocheting. For years she would knit Christmas ornaments for the residents of Johnson Lane. She was a member of the Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for many years and worked tirelessly alongside her husband to make the department a better place. Her home was spotless and welcoming. She touched the lives of many.

Survivors include sons, Stan Wright, and wife, Donna, of Eureka; Monty Wright, and wife, Nikki, of Fayetteville; a daughter, Michelle Mosier, of Springville; grandson, Branson Hudson; sisters Sharon Hanners, of Williams, and Linda Crane, of Judah; many friends; and her dog, Polly. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one brother, Robert Lee Mitchell.

Carol chose cremation and per her wishes there will be no services.

The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department or the White River Humane Society.

Sarah Jane “Janie” Clifton

MITCHELL – Sarah Jane “Janie” Clifton, 79, passed away Monday, June 15, 2026, at Mitchell Manor.

Born March 16, 1947, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Donald and Marie Lucille (Porter) Vaught.  She married Billie Clifton and he preceded her in death May 29, 2011.

Janie spent her career as a cook, both at Lonnie’s and for Older Americans Services.  She loved all things Mickey Mouse.

Surviving are her siblings, Timothy (Jenny) Vaught of Bloomington, Judith Powell of Mitchell, and Donald Vaught of Michigan; aunt, Mary Francis (Joe) Clip of Columbus; uncle, Leonard (Donna) Porter of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husband; and nephew, Greg Vaught, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Jim Russell officiating.  Burial will be in Talbott Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ricky Brown

MITCHELL – Ricky Brown, 69, met his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 18, 1957, in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of George T. and Frances C. Brown. On May 27, 1978, he married the love of his life, Tammy Pless, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love. Tammy survives.

Rick was a 1976 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, where he excelled in basketball and graduated as one of the school's all-time leading scorers. He carried the same determination, character, and enthusiasm throughout his life that he displayed on the basketball court.

He retired from General Motors in 2006 after 30 years of dedicated service. Never one to sit still, Rick continued working at The Solutions Center in Mitchell and proudly owned and operated Tammy's Pet Bed and Bath alongside his wife.

Rick was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and if you spoke with him for more than a few minutes, you knew it. His faith was not something he kept to himself; it was woven into the way he lived, loved, encouraged others, and faced life's challenges. He served faithfully on the Praise Band at Woodville Baptist Church for many years, using his voice and his heart to glorify God and encourage others in their faith. He shared God's love freely and never missed an opportunity to talk about the blessings in his life.

Rick enjoyed fishing, playing computer golf, tossing a few rounds of cornhole, planting flowers in the yard, quoting his favorite movies, volunteering for the Limestone parade and Christmas parade, listening to music, singing along to the songs he loved, and spending time with animals of every kind. Especially, all those in his care.  He had a gift for making people laugh and was known for his contagious smile and joyful spirit.

His humor, joy, smile, laughter, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his children, Michael (Cheryl) Pless, Robert (Robin) Pless, Christopher (Daniel) Brown, and LaToya (Cody) Lamm.

He was the best Pappy to his grandchildren, Micah Cooper, Jorja Lamm, Josie Lamm, and Kaiden Pless, who brought immense pride and happiness to his life.

Also surviving are his brothers, William Brown, Edward Brown, and Clarence Brown; and sisters, Mary Rowlett, Phyllis Wagers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George T. and Frances C. Brown; his sister, Georgena Curry; and his sisters-in-law, Marsha Brown and Sharon Brown.

Though Rick's earthly journey has ended, his legacy of faith, love, laughter, music, and devotion to family will continue through the countless lives he touched. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now healed, at peace, and in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 20, at Woodville Baptist Church with Pastor Angela Carter officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.

The family takes comfort in knowing that Rick has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23.

Thomas H. Walls Jr.

Thomas H. Walls Jr., 53, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away on June 12, 2026, in Bedford.

Born and raised in Bedford, Thomas was a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in his work as a draftsman and limestone cutter. He was known for his strong work ethic, wide range of knowledge, quiet strength, dry sense of humor, and generous spirit. He would do anything for anyone and was always there to lend a helping hand. A faithful Catholic, Thomas carried his beliefs with him throughout his life.

Thomas enjoyed sports, had a deep love for history, and loved working with his hands, finding satisfaction in building, creating, and fixing things. His talents, combined with his willingness to help others, left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Thomas is survived by his sons, Zakkry Walls and Bo Miller who he was incredibly proud of; and their mother, Shelly Walls who he loved and shared many wonderful years of life with; Bo’s wife Michelle Miller and their children; his mother, Teressa Walls; and his brothers, Kevin Walls and Mathew Walls.

He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his craftsmanship, his kindness to others, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.

A private family service will be held. The family asks that Thomas be remembered in your thoughts and prayers as they celebrate his life and cherish the memories he leaves behind.

Dolly Jane Howell Axsom

Dolly Jane Howell Axsom passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026 at Hospice House, Bloomington with family by her side. She was born May 26, 1946 to Homer and Catherine Eisele Howell at Bedford Dunn Hospital.

Dolly was a 1964 graduate of Tunnelton High School. She was an employee of the Fairview Truck Stop back in her teen years, later employed with Excello Shirt Factory, Medora Plastic factory, and after almost 30 years she retired from The Waffle House in Seymour.

After retirement Dolly traveled; her longest journey was to South Dakota for a wedding of her brother-in-law's Granddaughter. She made several trips to Florida where some of the Axsom family lived. Dolly enjoyed being outside and was handy with many manly duties, such as building her back porch and several other projects. She was a person who was always ready to help others but never needed the help for her own projects. She loved to sew, craft items, and gather baby geodes from the nearby creeks to cover birdhouses, ranchhouses or anything she could find to cover with those gems from the creek.

Surviving to cherish their memories of Dolly are her brother, Jeffrey Howell, Bloomington, her main caregiver in the last few years of her life; sister, Ruth Anne Howell Jones, McCordsville; her precious fur baby, Sweetie Pie; Niece, Trish Jones Skeen, McCordsville; one nephew, John Jones, Columbus; Niece, Kimberly Beatty, Columbia City; three Great Nephews, Daniel Jones, Andrew Jones and their companions Tracey Peacock, Elle Malay, Great Niece Della Lou Jones, Charlie Skeen and his fiancé Julia Johnson of Indianapolis.

Preceding Dolly in death were her parents, her husband, Delmar Axsom, and brother-in-law, Charlie Jones.

At Dolly's request there will be no service or visitation. Cresthaven Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements, with cremation. Her request was for loved ones to scatter her ashes in the mountains of Letcher County, Whitesburg, Ky, a place she loved to visit.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the White River Humane Society would be appreciated.

Those that helped during Dolly's confinement days were Clara Deaton; The Larry Thompsons; workers from Waffle House in Seymour; DAN, who was her boss and they talked every week especially discussing the latest NASCAR race, very appreciative of Dan for his caring thoughts of Dolly.

Kent Emerson Ramey

MITCHELL – Kent Emerson Ramey, 56, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at his residence.

Born February 1, 1970, in Bedford, he was the son of Max and Molly Elizabeth (Mannix) Ramey.

Kent was a 1988 graduate of Mitchell High School and received a bachelor's degree from Indiana State University. He was a Health and P.E. teacher with Mitchell High School and was a favorite for many students.  He played college basketball at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, IL.

Survivors include his brothers, Richard Scott (Linda) Ramey of Clermont, Florida and Kurt Thomas Ramey of Beech Grove; and niece, Chloe Grace Ramey.

His parents; sister, Susan Ramey Johnson; and brother, Donovan Glen Ramey, preceded him in death.

Cremation has been chosen with burial at a later date at Mitchell Cemetery.  Family, friends, and former students are invited to the Mitchell Community Building, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. to share memories and stories, and celebrate Kent’s life.

Kent was a big fan of all types of music and especially enjoyed Led Zeppelin, John Prine, and Wilco.

Dorothy Ann (Clark) Zumhingst


March 2, 1931 – June 8, 2026

Dorothy Ann (Clark) Zumhingst, 95, of Jeffersonville, formerly of Seymour, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026, at her home in Jeffersonville with her family by her side.

Born in Chicago, IL, on March 2, 1931, she was the daughter of Rupert and Ruth Clark and was raised in Hanover, IN, with her five siblings. She married Herbert H.C. Zumhingst on June 2, 1951, and was married for almost 57 years, having four children together.

While her husband was serving his country, she was Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Zumhingst family. Dorothy helped her husband develop the Sherwood Terrace Subdivision and co-owned several business ventures. She always loved teaching her children and grandchildren through playing games and cooking with them. Enjoying sewing and reading were some of her favorite hobbies. Always a woman who cared deeply for those around her and her family, she loved with everything she had. Family was always priority number one.

She is survived by her brothers, Raymond L. Clark and Alford H. Clark, along with her four children, Wayne (Sheila) Zumhingst, Diane (Harold) Scott, Karen Zumhingst, and Paul (Kathy) Zumhingst; eleven grandchildren, including Chad (Nikki) Hageman, Tammi (Brian) Burns, David (Kendra) Zumhingst, Peter Kriete, Amanda (Don) Edlin, Tracie-Ruth (Bradley) Miller, Andrea (Jeremy) Hough, Emma Zumhingst, Aaron Zumhingst, Hannah (Qing) Luo, and Karolyn (Luke) Thomas; and with fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert H.C. Zumhingst; her mother, Ruth (Macway) Clark; her father, Rupert Peter Clark; her brother, Rupert Edward Clark; her brother, Arthur G. Clark; and her sister, Grace E. Robertson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour, with Rev. Matt Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Julia Ann Williams

BEDFORD – Julia Ann Williams, 72, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, at her residence.

Born November 8, 1953, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Glenn Laverne and Margaret Irma (Lane) Edwards.  She married Danny Gerald Williams and he survives.

Julia was a 1971 graduate of Shawswick High School.  She retired from Duke Energy as the Dispatcher.  Julia attended the Bedford Free Methodist Church.  She liked antiquing and flowers, and she enjoyed winters spent in Florida - being on the beach as much as possible.  Julia loved her grandkids very much.

Surviving are her husband, Danny Gerald Williams of Bedford; children, Dustin Brian (Cassie) Matlock of Bedford, Aaron Brent (Breana Mena) Matlock of Bedford, and Shane Gerald (Jamie) Williams of Mitchell; grandchildren, Allison (Josh) Flick, Carissa Matlock, Colton (McKenzie) Spires, Chloe (Chris) Spires, and Conner Spires; great-grandchildren, Cooper Flick, Adeline Flick, Colter Flick, and Hudson Spires; and sister, Tereasa Kay (Steve) Chastain of Beverly Hills, Florida.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Adam Strauser officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Michael Lee Fletcher

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Michael Lee Fletcher, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, on June 10, 2026. Michael, who was 69, left this world peacefully at Bloomington Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, who were the center of his universe.

Born on December 30, 1956, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to the late Robert and Lucille (Coffman) Fletcher, Michael’s life was a testament to kindness, strength, and unending generosity. He carried these qualities with him through his formative years in Arkansas and into his adult life in Indiana, where he graduated from Shawswick High School in 1975.

Michael is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 35 years, Tonda Fletcher, his son Forrest Thomas Fletcher, and his beloved five grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. His two sisters and two brothers also survive him, each carrying forward his legacy of warmth and humor. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lucille, his brothers Timothy and Donnie Fletcher, and his sister Dixie (Fletcher) De Vault.

Michael was a man of many passions, perhaps most noted for his self-proclaimed green thumb. He found immense joy in nurturing plants and spending time on any body of water, where he could be found on a boat with the wind in his hair. A lover of 60's and 70's rock music, Michael had a unique ability to light up any room with his presence and an infectious smile. He was a guiding light and offered sage advice to many neighborhood children, often stepping in as a grandfather figure to those in need.

In his professional life, Michael dedicated himself to his career at Lakes Auto, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his faith. In 2024, he was baptized at Harvest Full Gospel Church, marking a significant and cherished moment in his spiritual journey.

A service to celebrate Michael’s remarkable life will be held on June 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Church, located at 1130 Hillcrest Rd, Bedford, Indiana. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM. Jimmy Johnson, Minister and Brother Robert Brown will officiate. All who knew and loved him are welcome to join his family in honoring his memory.

Roger Russell Hammer, 60, of Springville, IN, passed away at his residence on Friday, June 5, 2026. He was born October 17, 1965, to Merlin and Mary Baker Hammer at Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, FL.

Roger was a graduate of Bloomington North High School, class of 1984. He dedicated more than 20 years of service to General Electric. He found great joy in the outdoors and especially enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Whether he worked the land or spent time in nature, Roger appreciated life’s simple pleasures and the peace they brought him.

Left to cherish Roger’s memory are his children, Jayla Hammer (Kyle McWhorter) and Roger Jarren Hammer (Danielle Carrion); the mother of this children, Reneal; grandson, Archer McWhorter and three additional grandchildren; brothers, Merlin Hammer, Jacob Hammer, and his twin, Robert Hammer; sisters, Lisa Hammer, Kathy Abbott, Jackie (Matt) Kish, Mary Bir, Faye Sargent, Michelle Hammer (Bob Steele), and Theresa Todd; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Sandra L. Sutherland

Sandra L. Sutherland, 75 of Mitchell passed away on Monday June 8, 2026, at IU Health in Bloomington. Sandra was born in Columbus on December 14, 1950, to Ben Sutherland and Barbara (Spires) Brafford. Sandra married Dudley Wykoff III on October 21, 1995, and he survives.

Sandra retired from the Dana Corporation in Mitchell as a Lab Technician, she served in the Indiana National Guard and was a member of the Tulip Street Christian Church in Mitchell.

Survivors include her husband, Dudley Wykoff III of Mitchell, two children, Robert (Crystal) Gardner of Huron, Alisha (Jon) Montgomery of Mitchell, three stepchildren, Dee (Robin) Wykoff of Bedford, Trent (Sara) Wykoff of Campbellsburg, and Jessica Wykoff of West Baden, twelve grandchildren, Mark Gardner, Brooklyn Garland, Elasha Wykoff, Jalynn Tillette, Robert Wykoff, Emily Wykoff, Kylan Montgomery, Mya Montgomery, Finn Wykoff, Sawyer Wykoff, Josie Wykoff, and Dylanne Wykoff, one great grandchild, Jaxton Garland, one brother, Bennie Darrell Sutherland of Ohio, two sisters, Dana Sutherland of Pennsylvania, and Jane Emily of Saltillo.

Sharon F. Watterson

MITCHELL – Sharon F. Watterson, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born October 26, 1939, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Oren F. and Mildred M. (Miller) Brown.  She married James P. Watterson on May 7, 1958 and he survives.

Sharon was a 1957 graduate of Pekin High School.  She was a homemaker, worked at Noah’s Ark Preschool, and babysat many kids over the years.  Sharon was in the Mothers of Twins Club thanks to her twins Tracy and Tina.  She was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ, and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years.  Singing was a great joy in her life, and she once had an audition in Nashville.  Sharon enjoyed making ceramics and doll clothing, and loved taking her grandchildren Summer and Amanda to ceramics classes.  She loved her family fiercely and never missed a Christmas buying gifts for every family member and never missed a Pekin 4th of July celebration.

We are only left to mourn the loss of a beautiful soul, and take comfort that she is in the arms of Jesus.

Brewer of Palmyra, and Tina L. (Callie) Morrow of Pekin, Michael (Paige) Wyatt of Ft. Wayne, and Collin King of Mitchell; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Sandra K. (Kenny) Bierly of Salem, Patricia S. Gilstrap of Salem, Brent V. (Velita) Brown of Sellersburg, and Brenda D. Bagshaw of Pekin; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Brown of Sellersburg.

Her parents; granddaughter, Summer D. Abel; and brothers-in-law, Art Gilstrap and Raymond Bagshaw, preceded her in death.

Ronald L. Losey

Ronald L. Losey, 81 of Mitchell passed away on June 5, 2026, at his residence. Ron was born in Massena, New York to Wallace and Irene (Duquette) Losey. Ron was married to Bernice I. Losey for forty-one years until her death. Ron will be forever remembered by his only sister, Betty Richard of New York, and his two children, Lisa M. Campbell, and Kathy I. Lester, eight grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

Ronald was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Vietnam War, he was wounded three times, he received three Purple Hearts, he was also awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his heroic achievements and acts of valor in combat. Ron worked at General Motors for 21 years, he hade to retire for medical reasons, Ron faithfully attended the Work of God Church in Mitchell.

Michael S. Robertson

Michael S. Robertson, 71 of Springville passed away on June 3, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice in Bloomington, Michael was born in Bloomington on September 17, 1954, to Homer W. Robertson and Vivian Irene (Patton) Robertson. Mike married Carolyn Sue Baker in Smithville on July 5, 1974, and she survives. Mike was a 1972 graduate of Bloomington High School South, he previously worked at G.E. in Bloomington, Indiana University Maintenance Department, and recently worked as a Truck Driver. Mike was an elder and member of Pleasant Kentucky Ridge Church, he was a Cub Scout leader and was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Robertson, daughter, Rebecca Ann Lanier and husband Corey Lanier, son, Samuel Edward Robertson, grandchildren, Ada Renee’ Lanier, Reese Ensley Robertson, and Rory Elise Robertson, brother-in-law, Danny Baker.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Homer W. Robertson, and Vivian Irene Robertson, brother, David Robertson, his wife Patty Robertson, and sister, Janet Robertson.

Matthew White

December 13, 1968 – April 24, 2026

Matthew White, 57, of Bedford, IN, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2026. Born December 13, 1968, Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nancy White. He is survived by his siblings, Heidi (Alex) Raia, John White, Robert White, Dusty (Robyn) White, Laura (Adam) Lowder, Emily (John) Johnston, and Cameron White; and by his six daughters, Matison (Chad) Jacox, Alexis White, Jenaveve (Brandt) Cowley, Abigail White, Bella White, and Adalyn White.

Matthew was born and raised in rural Paoli, IN, and remembered that growing up in the country was “great” and produced memories that he would never forget. He graduated from Paoli Jr.-Sr. High School where he was a star athlete in both football and baseball. After high school, he served a successful two-year mission in England for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While serving as a missionary, Matthew spent most of his time in Manchester, Liverpool, and Blackpool. He loved being a missionary and experienced tremendous personal growth. He said being a missionary was hard, but good.

After his missionary service, Matthew attended Ricks College in Rexburg, ID. He graduated from Ricks College with an Associate Degree in Arts and Sciences. Ultimately, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Regents College, a member of The University of the State of New York.

While attending Ricks College in Rexburg, ID, he immediately started football camp. He also played baseball and was among the winners of a weightlifting contest. On the baseball team, he was nicknamed Matt “The Whirlwind” White and had a superstition of never stepping on the baselines or sidewalk cracks before a game, only on the grass. One of his college coaches said he was the fastest guy he had coached in 20 years, and he liked to just sit back and watch him run. He also played on an adult baseball team. He loved baseball almost as much as he loved people.

Matthew was an entrepreneur. After selling cars for Mazda and Ford Mitsubishi, Matthew co-founded Hoosier Foods Delivery Service in Southern Indiana. He later became a general contractor, and developed land and built houses in Virginia. He was also an artist, a lively storyteller, and a staunch friend.

Matthew’s pride and joy were his six daughters, and his thoughts were often of them. Most recently, his life revolved around his two youngest daughters. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service to honor Matthew’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1010 Twenty-second Street, Bedford, IN, on June 13, 2026, at 2:00pm.

Jessica L. Ikerd

Jessica L. Ikerd, 46 of Evansville passed away on June 2, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville. Jessica was born in Bedford on August 3, 1979, to Arthur Phillips and Dianna (Phillips) Delphia. Jessica was a homemaker, she was a graduate of BNL High School, she also attended Ivy Tech Community College, and Oakland City University, she was of Christian faith.

Survivors include her mother, Dianna Delphia of Evansville, one son, Jayvin Ikerd of Williams, one sister, Lakeisha Joseph of Evansville, three brothers, Andrew Delphia of Evansville, Eric Everage of Bedford, and David Phillips of Mitchell, several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Jessica was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Phillips, and daughter, Jannesa Ikerd in 2021.

Nickie L. “Nick” Napier

September 15, 1947 – May 31, 2026

Nickie L. “Nick” Napier, 78, of Bedford, passed away peacefully at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on May 31, 2026. Born September 15, 1947, in Huntington, West Virginia, he was the son of Robert L. Napier, Sr. and Lessie Mills Smith. He married his wife, the former Donna Arthur, on April 14, 1973, and she preceded him in death.

Nick was a US Air Force Veteran. He was also a retired electronics technician from NSWC Crane where he worked for 41 years. He graduated from Wayne High School in West Virginia, and attended West Virginia University.

Nick was a member of Tulip Street Christian Church and enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s activities and woodworking.

Surviving to cherish Nick’s memory is his daughter, DeAndrea (Jackson) Sargent; son, Chris (Amy) Napier; five grandchildren, Aunaka Wasil, Simeon Wasil, Jack Sargent, Landon (Katie Miller) Napier, and Grace Napier; great granddaughter, Raylynn Napier; sisters, Rosemary (Greg) Stanley, Nichole (Gary) Kurdelski, and Robin (Adam) Bougher; brother, Robert Napier; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Napier, Sr. and Lessie (Mills) Smith; and his wife, Donna.

BEDFORD – Coni Norrington, 74, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born June 13, 1951, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of James and Ethel (Carter) Norrington.  She married Robert Warren and he preceded her in death.

Coni was a 1969 graduate of Mitchell High School.  She worked at the GM Central Foundry, and also decorated cakes and sewed.  Coni like to go shopping in her free time.

Surviving are her daughter, Mindy Simpson; grandsons, Jayleb Jacoby and Owen Tibbett; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas “Tommy” D. Clouse, 78, of Bedford, IN passed away peacefully at McCormick Creek Nursing Home in Spencer, IN on May 31, 2026. Born April 27, 1948, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Heber and Mary (Wade) Clouse.

He was never married and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed working on the farm as his daily routine. A special thanks goes out to Chester Batman and Bob Covey.

Surviving to cherish Thomas’s memory is his sister, Janet Clouse; one brother-in-law, Tom Rollins; several nieces, nephews, cousins; several great nieces and nephews; and his dog named Buster.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; one brother, David Clouse; one sister-in-law, Cathy Clouse; one sister, Connie Rollins; and several cousins.

Randy Lee Knight

Randy Lee Knight, 68, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026, at his daughter’s residence.

Born August 12, 1957, in Bedford, he was the son of Dallas Howard and Pearl Florence (Edmonson) Knight.

Randy retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation and was a member of Woodville Baptist Church. He was a former member of ABATE and Bedford Moose Lodge No. 689. Randy was a skilled mechanic and leather crafter and worked at Spring Mill State Park Pioneer Village. Words can’t explain how fun loving and full of life he was…if you know, then you know.

Survivors include his children, Crystal (Melvin) Staggs of Bedford, Joni Knight of Mitchell, Amy Terrell of Mitchell, Lea Knight of Heltonville, and Dallas Knight of Mitchell; grandchildren, Carmen Smith, Gavin Smith, Tatelyn Terrell, Savannah Terrell, Landon Terrell, Abygale Terrell, Kaleb Terrell, Clara Schofield, Jaden Schofield, Penelope Silcott, Rylee Frazier, KayleeAnn Hall, Deakon Hall, Amiah Mundy, Wyatt Mundy, Railyn Mundy, and Lucas Knight; five great-grandchildren; siblings Joyce Tolliver-Wilson of Mitchell, Jerry Knight of Michigan, Norma Ritter of Bedford, and Howard Knight of Salem; and lifelong friend, Jerry Watts of Mitchell.
