Linda May “Penny” Grubb

MITCHELL – Linda May “Penny” Grubb, 79, passed away peacefully Friday, July 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and treasured memories.

Born June 4, 1947, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Sam and Rosie (Reynolds) Edmonson.  She married the love of her life and soulmate of 53 years, Jim Grubb, on July 11, 1964 and he preceded her in death June 23, 2017.  Penny was a member of Fishing Creek Christian Church.  She worked at Essex Group in Orleans and retired from Dana Corporation.

Penny lived a life centered on family, friendship, and the simple joys that brought happiness to those around her.  She loved spending time outdoors, especially going mushroom hunting with her lifelong friend, Peggy.  More than anything, Penny cherished every moment with her family.  Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Simon, whose lives she touched with her love, laughter, and caring heart.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Cheryl (Darrell) Boone, Ron (Polly) Grubb, Missy (Tim) Barksdale, and Jamie (William) Thacker; her beloved grandchildren, Levi (Alex) Fletcher, Ky (Stephanie) Grubb, Nikki (Zach) Speer, Addie (Matt) Grubb, Andi (Nathan) Bell, Laci Barksdale, Isaiah Barksdale, Lindi Barksdale, Jason Boone, Rachel Stevens, and Chandler Boone; her cherished great-grandchildren, Morgan, Gunnar, Maddison, Maverick, Kendall, Jameson, Jensen, Carter, Wrenley, Journee, Emma, Emmitt, Emmerson, and Maxx; and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Sylvia; along with several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husband; beloved grandson, Jonah Grubb; sister, Patty Porter; and brother, Rodney Edmonson, preceded her in death.

Penny’s love for her family will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her.  She will be remembered for her warm smile, and unwavering devotion to those she loved, along with the countless memories she created with family and friends.  Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will remain with those who were blessed to know her.  The family takes comfort in knowing that Penny’s memory will forever be carried in their hearts, and that the loved she shared will continue to inspire future generations.

Per Penny’s request, cremation has been chosen.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Mary Beth Smith

March 27, 1951 – July 30, 2026

Mary Beth Smith, 75, of Heltonville, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born in Heltonville on March 27, 1951, Mary Beth shared 51 years of marriage with her husband, Dwight. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and creating a home where everyone felt welcome.

Mary Beth dedicated more than 25 years of service to Dr. Benham's office in Bedford. She later continued her career with the North Lawrence Water Corporation, where she was known for her dedication and work ethic.

Mary Beth loved her family deeply and enjoyed nothing more than having them together. She was happiest when the kitchen was busy, a meal was on the table, and there was room for one more. She never hesitated to welcome family, friends, or even someone who just needed a place to sit down and share a meal. Cooking for others was her favorite way to show love.

Known for having a little spice in her personality, Mary Beth spoke her mind, enjoyed a good laugh, and loved those closest to her fiercely. She also dedicated many years to the Heltonville Ballpark, where she spent countless hours supporting the community and helping create memories for generations of families.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dwight Smith; her daughters, Recina Smallwood (Brockie) and Denise Smith (Neil Embree); her sisters, Polly Prince (Kenny) and Julie Hensley (Mark); her grandchildren, Jacob Smith (Ashley) and Natasha Pearson (Michael); several great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Bob” Ford and Josephine Ford; and her brothers, Morris “Butch” Ford and John Ford.

Mary Beth leaves behind a legacy of family, laughter, good food, and a home where everyone knew there was always a place at the table. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral services for Mary Beth Smith will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 11:00am at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor Duane Brown officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 2 from 3:00pm–6:00pm, also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.

Saundra K. “Sandy” Arthur

February 15, 1944 – July 29, 2026

Saundra K. “Sandy” Arthur, 82, of Springville, Indiana, passed away at her residence surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Born on February 15, 1944, in Bedford, Indiana, Sandy was the daughter of Robert and Katherine (Woodward) Inman. She married Darrell Arthur on September 10, 1960, and he preceded her in death on November 28, 2013.

Sandy attended Needmore High School with the class of 1962. She was an office worker at Hoosier Door in Oolitic, Indiana, and had previously worked at RCA in Bloomington, Indiana. She also had attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness and was an Avon Representative for several years.

She was a former member of Oolitic VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post #1686. Sandy loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and taking care of her flower garden.

Sandy is survived by her two sons, Bob (Beverly) Arthur of Springville, IN, and Randall Arthur of Springville, IN; one daughter, Kelly (Fiancé, Doug Hampton) Arthur of Bloomington, IN; three grandchildren, Jarred (Amy) Arthur, Robert “Jody” (Jessica) Arthur, and Emma Arthur; five great grandchildren, Landon, Jacob, Peyton, Skylar, and Bonnie; one brother, Richard “Rick” Inman; one sister, Peggy Martin; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Katherine (Woodward) Inman; and her husband of 53 years, Darrell Arthur.

Funeral Services for Sandy will be held at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Doug Kimball officiating. Burial will follow at Springville West Cemetery in Springville, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel.

Carolyn “Sue” Waggoner

BEDFORD – Carolyn “Sue” Waggoner, 83, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026, at her residence.

Born December 6, 1942, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Laurin and Helen May (Jacobs) Tolbert.  She married Roy Eugene Waggoner on July 9, 1960 and he survives.  They just celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Sue was a 1960 graduate of Huron High School.  She was a babysitter for many years and was a waitress at several restaurants.  She loved her flowers and taking care of her garden.  Sue was always willing to help her family.  She was a long time member of Bryantsville Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Roy Eugene Waggoner of Bedford; daughter, Sheila (Allen Asbury) McCormick of Bedford; grandson, Michael Brent McCormick of Bedford; and brothers, Jeff Tolbert of Mitchell and James Tolbert of Bedford.

Her parents; son, Robert Eugene Waggoner; great-grandson, Kaden Lee Meadows; and siblings, David Tolbert, Paul Tolbert, Harry Tolbert, Joseph Tolbert, Rose Tolbert, Mary Frances Dumond, Betty Robertson, and Priscilla Tolbert, preceded her in death.

Cremation has been chosen with graveside service held at a later date in Bryantsville Cemetery.

Mary (Neal) Thompson

Mary (Neal) Thompson, 79 of Bedford passed away on July 28, 2026, at Westview Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Bedford. Mary was born in Bedford on January 3, 1947, to George W. “Bill” Neal and Betty (Hughes) Neal. Mary married Larry D. Thompson on July 30, 1976, and he preceded her in death on July 9, 2025.

Mary attended Shawswick High School, she retired from General Motors in Bedford, she was a member of the UAW Local #440, and New Hope Community Church.

Survivors include three children, Rhea Myers of Bedford, Louanna (Joey) Robbins of Bedford, and Chris (Jennifer) Thompson of Richmond, grandchildren, Tara (Ben) Morrow, Trevor Robbins, Tyson (Winter) Robbins, Tayla Sullivan, Maleiah Thompson, Makayla (Chase) McNew, 14 great grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Jerry (Susan) Thompson, one sister-in-law, Karen Jennings, several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Larry D. Thompson,

Kenneth W. Wagoner

Kenneth W. Wagoner, 88 of Mitchell passed away on Friday July 24, 2026, at his residence. Kenneth was born in Columbus on July 19, 1938, to Wayne and Winnie (Thomas) Wagoner. Kenneth married Ruthie Harder in 1988, and she survives.

Kenneth retired from The Times-Mail in Bedford, he then retired from the City of Bedford Utilities. Kenneth was a US Army veteran, he was a member of the Bedford Boat Club, the Mitchell American Legion Post #250, and the Oolitic V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Wagoner of Mitchell, one sister, Anne (Jim) Nikirk of Bloomington, one sister-in-law, Marcia Young of Mitchell, several nieces, and great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Norma Laux, and Mary Webb.

Cremation was chosen, with a memorial visitation on Saturday August 1, 2026, at Cresthaven Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, condolences may be made at www.cresthavenfh.com.

Claude Stannard, Jr.

Claude Stannard, Jr. 71 of Bedford passed away on July 23, 2026, at IU University Hospital in Indianapolis. Claude was born in Bedford on January 19, 1955, to Claude C. Stannard, Sr. and Sharon (Baker) Stannard.

Claude was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Claude (Brandi) Stannard III, and Joseph Stannard, grandchildren, Courtney, Destiny, Hailee, Nathan, Samantha, Kindra, Cody, Austin, Joshua, and Madison, great grandchildren, Waylon, Amelia, Willow, and Greyson.

Claude was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lena Burrell, two sons, Shawn Stannard, and Shane Stannard, one daughter, Lena Rose Stannard.

Lorene B. (Bowman) Batman


December 27, 1936 – July 21, 2026

Lorene B. (Bowman) Batman, 89, of Seymour, IN, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center with her family by her side. Born on December 27, 1936, in English, IN, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Gladys (Sturgeon) Bowman.

Lorene grew up and attended school in English, IN. She worked at Travelers Electronic Company in Orleans, IN, and then at the Ammunition Plant in Charleston, IN. Lorene married Alvin L. Batman on March 20, 1971, in Milltown, IN. They were happily married for twenty-four years until his passing in 1995.

She was a former member of Community Christian Church in Milltown, IN, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Seymour, IN, V.F.W. Post 1925 Auxiliary in Seymour, and American Legion #332 Auxiliary in Milltown, IN. Lorene enjoyed gardening, going on Sunday afternoon drives, watching the sunset on the beaches in Michigan, her cats, and puzzles. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Lorene is survived by her son, Walter (Jodi) Batman of Seymour, IN; her granddaughters, Hope Danielle Batman of Seymour, IN, and Kalika Eileen Batman of Lewisville, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Gladys Bowman; her husband, Alvin L. Batman; her sisters, Evelyn VanWinkle, Cora Ellen Howell, Wilma Alen, June Summers, and Norma Jenkins; her brothers, Jerome Bowman, Sheldon Bowman, Harold Bowman, and Lindell Bowman.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Brown Newkirk Funeral Home, 306 Spring St., Milltown, IN 47145, with Rev. William Fredstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery in Milltown, IN. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour, and on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the Brown Newkirk Funeral Home in Milltown, IN.

Cora Nell Knight

The beautiful and loving soul of Cora Nell Knight, age 99, was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

She came into the world on December 31, 1926 as the youngest of seven children born to Arthur Glenn and Osie Elsie (Thomas) Howell.

Her favorite place to visit was Spring Mill State Park.  She was the last surviving great-great-grandchild of James Campbell Lynn, Spring Mill pioneer and the original owner of the property surrounding and including what later became known as Donaldson Cave.  She was proud of her family’s legacy at Spring Mill where her mother lived as a child.  Her maternal ancestors rest in the Hamer Cemetery.

She attended The Bride of Christ Fellowship.  She served her Lord and Savior faithfully for many years.

Her greatest joys and earthly treasures are those she leaves behind:  daughters, Laura A. Copeland and Tammy J. (Tyler) Duncan; grandchildren, Amanda Farley and Matthew Scherschel; great-grandchildren, Ethan Roberts, Evan Roberts, Madison Harrison, Emma Harrison, Rebecca Harrison, Whitney Scherschel, Justice Hammers, Jayden Kline, and Jolynn Kline; great-great-grandchildren, Keigan Scherschel, Branson Deckard, Lakin Hammers, JoLoyd Turner, Jazper Turner, Jayleigh Kline, Colsen Kline, and Case Kline.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Jesse, Gordon, Audrey, Delphia, Ruby, and Ada; granddaughters, Jennifer Harrison and Jaime Kline; bonus daughter, Bonnie Scherschel; niece, Venita Terry; nephews, William, Jack, Jerry, Daniel, and Michael Graham, Rick Reynolds, Fred Howell; and son-in-law, Eric Copeland.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Heather and Kari at Careforth, and Bev and Sydney at Southern Care Hospice for the love, laughter, and support given to our precious mother.  She truly loved each one of you.

Our mother was an inspiration to all who knew her.  The inner strength she gained from the many struggles and losses she endured during her lifetime set an example for those of us who follow, which we will carry with us for all of our days.  She taught us well, not by word, but by the example that no matter what, we will make it through the toughest days and times.  We love you Mommy, with all our hearts and souls, from our first breath until your last and beyond.

Watch for us by Heaven’s gate, we’ll be along someday.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Greg Isom officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

George Robert Thomas

February 9, 1943 – July 21, 2026

George Robert Thomas, age 83, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Brown County Health and Living, Nashville, IN. He was born February 9, 1943, in Roanoke, VA, to Steven and Elsie (Baldwin) Thomas. George married Terry Haxton February 23, 1990, and she survives.

George graduated from the University of the South, earning a four-year degree in the Education of Ministry.

George served 12 years in the Fleet Marine Force as a Corpsman, did two tours in Viet Nam and was a Senior Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy, retiring after 23 years. He was also a member St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Smithfield, NC.

Surviving to cherish George’s memory is his wife, Terry; son, Alec Thomas; daughter, Rhonda Michelle (Mark) Franco; step-daughters, Giselle LaVerde and Trisha Oliver; and sister, Lorene (Milo) McBryde.

Preceding George in death were his parents, Steven and Elsie Thomas; and his brother, Steven Lee Thomas.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no services at this time. A burial at sea will take place at a later date.

Shannon Dwayne Roach

BEDFORD – Shannon Dwayne Roach, 49, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice House.

Born July 23, 1976, in Bedford, he was the son of Tracy Roach and Donna (Fancher) Snow.

Shannon was a 1994 graduate of Central Florida Academy in Orlando, Florida.  He worked for Mikels Signs as a graphic designer.  Shannon was very artistic; he enjoyed woodworking and making cornhole sets.  He enjoyed fishing in his spare time.  Shannon attended Fayetteville Baptist Church.

Surviving are his children, Christopher Roach of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Nicholas Roach of Summerville, South Carolina; mother, Donna Snow of Bedford; step-father, Kenneth Snow of Bedford; and sister, Michelle (Eric) Ernst of St. Cloud, Florida.

His father and brother, Christopher Roach, preceded him in death.

Private service will be held with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Randall Joe “Randy” Guthrie

MITCHELL – Randall Joe “Randy” Guthrie, 73, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at his residence.

Born April 8, 1953, in Bedford, he was the son of Manuel and Mary V. (Gaines) Guthrie.  He married Cathy Lynn Evans on December 17, 1977 and she preceded him in death February 1, 2008.

Randy was a 1971 graduate of Mitchell High School.  He retired from SAIC as a small arms tech.  Randy was an Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 250.  He enjoyed going to Robinson Auctions and collected all types of knickknacks and antiques.  He enjoyed guns, doing reloading, and loved to target practice.  Randy also loved to go horseback riding.  He attended Work of God Church.

Surviving are his son, Jason Derek (Jennifer) Guthrie of Mitchell; step-son, Jason Wheeler of Bloomington; grandchildren, Kacie Dagostino of Mitchell, Shannon Dagostino of Hardinsburg, and Madison Smith of Mitchell; brother, Merlin (Sandy) Guthrie of Crawfordsville; and his dog and buddy, Argos, who always wanted to get some ice cream and Dr. Pepper.

His parents and wife preceded him in death.

Cremation has been chosen.  Graveside service will be held at a later date at Knott Cemetery.

Robert L. “Larry” Brown

Robert L. “Larry” Brown, 83, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at his residence.

Born November 27, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of Robert M. and Alice (Bair) Brown. He married Ann Beretta on October 30, 1965.

Larry was a 1960 graduate of Bedford High School; he attended Indiana University and graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in 1965. Larry served as Master Trooper with the Indiana State Police, retiring in 1985. Larry then went on to serve as Lawrence County Circuit Court Bailiff, Lawrence County Community Corrections Assistant Supervisor, Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office Investigator and Indiana State Department of Toxicology Inspector, finally retiring in 2010.

Larry’s top four loves were God, his family, hot rods and 1950’s music. He also loved fishing, drawing, nature, and collecting Native American artifacts-all of which he found and never purchased. He was also an avid animal lover.

Larry was a private man who believed that actions spoke louder than words. He believed that hard work paid off and career advancements should be earned and not given. He taught by example-showing the importance of hard work, dedication and treating others with respect. Above all else, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. At age 2, his grandson Reece nicknamed him “Bob” and the name stuck. He will forever be Bob to all of us.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Brett (Keri) Brown of Fishers and Erin (John) Sherrill of Bedford; his grandchildren, Tori (Zack) Minton, Austin (Sadie) Brown, Kyler (Marie) Sherrill, Reece (Chloe) Sherrill, Gavin (Annie) Sherrill, and Miley Sherrill; his great grandchildren, Addi Sherrill, Ida Sherrill, Lennon Sherrill, Maris Sherrill, Maryn Brown, Maisie Brown, Tripp Minton, Remi Minton, Mason Minton, Ava Minton and Abbi Minton; two nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.

His parents, brothers in law, Lou (Bernadette) Beretta and Ned Beretta, and longtime friend, Denny Fortner preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with John Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the start of the service on Saturday.

Pall bearers: Austin Brown, Zack Minton, Kyler Sherrill, Reece Sherrill, Gavin Sherrill and Daxton Short. Honoray pall bearers: Tori Minton and Miley Sherrill.

Janice Sue Chastain

MITCHELL – Janice Sue Chastain, 82, passed away Monday, July 20, 2026, at her residence.

Born April 3, 1944, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Lavere and Mabel L. (Baldwin) Terry.  She married Jerry Lee Chastain on January 16, 1970 and he preceded her in death February 10, 2002.

Janice was a 1962 graduate of Mitchell High School.  She worked at Otis Elevator Company for several years before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant.  Janice was a CNA for over 30 years, then working for private home health care.  She was a great caregiver and healthcare worker.  Above all, Janice enjoyed life.

Surviving are her children, Deborah “Debbie” Brooks of Mitchell and Linda Lou Hendricks of Mitchell; step-children, Gregory Lee Chastain of Mitchell, Enola Gay (Jimmy) Batchelor of Mitchell, and Kimberly (Douglas) Whitmore of Kansas; grandchildren, Jordan Brooks of Mitchell, Allen Kemple of Mitchell, and Ashley (Matt) Brandt of Missouri; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Carmelita (Donnie) Varvel of Mitchell.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Everett “Pat” Terry, Pearl Ruth Duncan, Roy Terry, and Joseph Terry, preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, at Lawrenceport Cemetery with Reverend Steve Jones officiating.

Matthew Ryan Dorsett

SELLERSBURG – Matthew Ryan Dorsett, 45, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026, at his residence.

Born May 29, 1981, in Bedford, he was the son of Stephen Wayne and Theresa “Teri” Elaine (Allen) Dorsett.

Matt was a 1999 graduate of Mitchell High School.  He graduated from Franklin College in 2003 and received his law degree from Indiana University School of Law in 2006.  Matt was a member of the Indiana Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association, the Indiana Supreme Court Bar, and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar.  He had been employed as Senior Council for Louisville Gas & Electric Company.

Matt attended Woodville Baptist Church and was a past president of American Baptist Youth Association.  He was a Boy Scout, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.  Matt enjoyed playing golf, and did so all through high school and college.  He was an avid fan of Indiana University and the Indianapolis Colts.

Surviving are his parents, Stephen and Teri Dorsett of Mitchell; sister, Katie (Paul) Price of Mitchell; uncle, David (Robin) Allen of Whiteland; and nephew and niece, Drew and Emma.                    

His grandparents, Kenny and Vera, and Walter and Mickie; and uncle Denny Dorsett, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Jordan Philpott and Reverend Glenn Hamer officiating.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Cecil L. York

February 2, 1948 - July 18, 2026

Cecil L. York, 78, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Born on February 2, 1948, in Orleans, Indiana, Cecil was the son of Willis and Nellie (Hutsler) York. He married Barbara Richardson on March 26, 1966, and she preceded him on November 6, 2025.

He was a shop foreman at Sigma Steel as well as a welder at Indiana Steel before retiring in 2012. Cecil loved motorcycles, classic cars, western movies and the Andy Griffith show. He was of the Baptist Faith, and most of all, loved spending time with his family.

Cecil is survived by his two sons, Brian (Deanna) York and Bruce (Aleah) York; one daughter, Barby (Tommy) Grubb; six grandchildren, Jacqueline, Abigal, Zackary, Jacob, Makayla and Sean; one great grandson, Hunter; five brothers, Jerry York, David York, Charlie York, Buddy York and Frank Parsons; four sisters, Patricia, Rosemary, Linda and Debbie; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Nellie (Hutsler) York; his wife, Barbara York; three brothers, John York, Raymond York and Eddie York; and two sisters, Connie and Marsha.

Donald R. Deckert

December 12, 1935-July 13, 2026

Donald “Don” R. Deckert transitioned from this life to his heavenly home on July 13th, 2026, surrounded by love.

Don was born December 12th, 1935, to the late William and Agatha (Pickens) Deckert in Mitchell, Indiana. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1953. 

After high school, Don immediately enlisted in the Air Force where he served in Germany.  During this time, Don became the starting quarterback for the Landstuhl Raiders and won the German/Austrian championship in London in 1955. Following his active-duty military service in 1957, Don attended Indiana University.  Although Don was recruited by Head Football Coach Phil Dickens to play quarterback for IU, he ultimately chose to focus exclusively on his academics.

Don’s professional career spanning 32 years included both managerial and supervisory positions in the highway construction and coal mining reclamation industries.  Don worked as an Assistant Project Engineer for the Indiana State Highway Commission from 1961-1964. He then became a Project Supervisor for Ralph Rogers and Company in Bloomington from 1964-1978. During this time Don supervised many major road construction projects including portions of I-65 near Somerset, KY, Indiana SR 63 between Terre Haute and Montezuma, and Indiana SR 37 between Bedford and Bloomington. Don was also mentioned in a 1975 article in Construction Equipment magazine where Ralph Rogers Company was recognized as one of the top contractors in the nation. Finally, Don worked as Manager of Reclamation for Amax Coal Company from 1978-1993 where he was responsible for reclamation planning and execution at eight surface mines across Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.

Don was a member of the American Legion, the IU Alumni Association and was a faithful member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford, until his recent move to Terre Haute.

Don married our mother Nancy L. (Trueblood) Deckert (1958-1980/deceased 2001); married Nila (Gordon) Deckert (1982-2007/deceased 2007); and companioned with Lorenda Voris 2008-2018 (deceased 2018).

In his spare time, Don was an avid reader, an exceptional cook, a fiercely loyal IU fan, a lover of golf (playing/watching), and passed the time watching a wide variety of sporting events on TV. He enjoyed listening to all styles of music, singing along, and strumming on his ukulele. Don also kept up on news and world events, was a devout Democrat, embraced his Episcopal faith, and treasured meals and gatherings with family and friends.

Don is survived by his sons Mike (Linda) Deckert, Terre Haute; Tim Deckert, Madison; daughter Lisa Deckert (Pat Rasnic), Indianapolis; his sister Susan “Sue” Breedlove (John), Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren Haley (Mikey) Blair, Jensen (Trent) Persinger, Landyn Deckert (Chandler Harper), Macy (Michael) Deckard, Benjamin Deckert, Alexis (Kit) Mudd; great grandchildren Leah, Robin, Sampson, Theo and Vivian; and nephews Johnny Breedlove, Bend, Oregon, and Bill (Hollie) Breedlove/families, Worthington, Ohio; and niece Shannon (Chris) Burton/families, Belpre, Ohio; honorary daughter Susan Maddox; and many beloved cousins, extended family and close friends.

A private family graveside ceremony with military rites will take place on Friday, July 24th at Cresthaven Memory Gardens, Mother Kelsey Hutto-Ford to preside. A reception will follow at the Otis Park Red Brick from 2:00-6:00 p.m. where friends and family can gather to celebrate Don and share stories of his life surrounded by the beautiful golf course where Don spent so many hours enjoying the game he loved most.

Dwight L. Padgett

Dwight L. Padgett, 76 of Mitchell passed on Thursday July 16, 2026, at IU Health in Bloomington. Dwight was born in Greene County on November 4, 1949, to Leland Padgett, Jr., and Mary Jean (Craig) Chinn. Dwight married Debra Grimes on February 2, 1991, and she survives.

Dwight retired from NWSC Crane, and he was a US Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Debra (Grimes) Padgett of Mitchell, two sons, Jason Dwight Padgett of Owensburg, and Joshua Emerson Padgett of Owensburg, special god daughter, Kennedy Coulter, one sister, Diane Padgett (Mary Lou Schmit) of Bloomington, one brother, Jeff (Joann) Padgett of Owensburg, one sister-in-law, Susie Padgett Pegg of Spencer, nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Padgett, Teyia Allen, and Missy Daab.

Kevin D. Nicholson, 55, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on July 14, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood. Born in Seymour, IN, on January 30, 1971, he was the son of Robert and Patricia Nicholson.

Kevin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, graduated from Seymour High School, and worked as a printer at RR Donnelley.

Kevin had a lifelong love of music that touched every part of his life. No instrument ever seemed out of reach—if he didn't know how to play one, he was determined to learn. His curiosity and creativity extended beyond music to a deep appreciation for art, and in later years he found great joy in woodworking, where he expressed his talent by creating with his hands. He will be remembered for his creative spirit, willingness to learn, and the passion he brought to everything he loved.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Noah Nicholson and Izabella Nicholson; his dog, Daisy Mae; his parents, Robert and Patricia Nicholson; his significant other, Tina Abell; his brothers, Robert "Rob" Mark (Rhonda Lambring) Nicholson and Matthew Ryan (Zabrina) Nicholson; one grandchild on the way; his aunt, Charlene (Eric Goens) Gray; James and Phyllis Spurgeon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Brown Nicholson.

Brian L. Bridges

Brian L. Bridges, 57 of Norman passed away on July 7, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Bedford on January 16, 1969, to Ralph and Kathryn (Hutchinson) Bridges. Brian had previously worked in the sawmill, but in recent years he was disabled. Brian was an avid Coon Hunter, he enjoyed competition hunts, he had several horses, including his big black horse, Bronco, he raised chickens, Brian had many friends around Leesville, Heltonville, and Bedford.

Survivors include two brothers, Delbert (Kim) Bridges of Bedford, and Vernon (Cathie) Bridges of Norman, he had several nieces and nephews.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Kathryn Bridges.

Kirsten Lynn Bish

Kirsten Lynn Bish, 56, of Bedford, passed away on July 10, 2026, at the Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital. She was born on June 1, 1970, in Palatine, Illinois, to the late Vern Jay and Marsha Sandberg Bish. In 2006, she married Donovan Wilson, who survives her and cherished her deeply.

Kirsten spent her life making art and championing the artists around her. She never met a medium she didn't want to try — if it could be created, she wanted her hands in it. She studied at the Art Institute of Atlanta and carried that creative drive with her everywhere she went. She was every bit as devoted to theater as to visual art, working a variety of tech roles and serving as stage manager for local theaters. In Manistee, Michigan, she took to the airwaves as a DJ for the local radio station, working the board and assisting the sports announcer for the local high school football team. She also spent several years as a judge for high school forensics competitions in Manistee, helping shape the next generation of public speakers.

Kirsten lived as a disabled woman with unstoppable resolve. No challenge that came her way ever dimmed her willingness to try something new, learn something hard, or throw herself into her next project. She met the world with a fierce wit and a wonderful sense of humor that her friends and family will carry with them always.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband, Donovan Wilson; her two fur babies, Gonzo and Dar; her brother, Travis Bish (and his wife, Katey Jackson); and her lifelong friend, Ashley A. Andrews (AKA A3), whom she met at age seven and remained close with for the rest of her life — including as devoted pen pals whenever the two lived apart.

Harley “Kenny” Kenneth Gilbert

MITCHELL – Harley “Kenny” Kenneth Gilbert, 84, passed away Monday, July 13, 2026, at his residence.

There are people who pass through this world, and then there are people who leave fingerprints on every heart they touch.

Harley Kenneth Gilbert, Kenny was one of those people.

If you ever met Kenny, chances are you walked away smiling. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger, always had a joke ready, and could make you feel like you’d been friends for years. His heart was as big as his laugh, and his greatest joy was simply making life a little brighter for the people around him. Simply put, he was the kindest man who ever was. 

Kenny was born on July 26, 1941, in Shoals, Indiana, to Oscar Emery and Myrtle Jane Gilbert. On June 28, 1964, in Frankfort, Indiana, he married the love of his life, Constance Lee Harris. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, built on faith, laughter, unwavering devotion, and countless everyday moments that became a lifetime together.

He retired in 2006 as Head of Maintenance and Engineering at Bloomington Hospital after years of faithful service. Kenny was happiest when he was building something with his hands. Whether crafting beautiful woodworking projects, building birdhouses, or working in the yard. He stayed busy. 

When the work was done, Kenny knew how to enjoy life. As speed limits were recommendations and signs were nearly suggestions. 

He loved the roar of race cars, whether he was sitting in the stands at the local track or planted in front of the television cheering on NASCAR every weekend. He loved driving trucks, squirrel hunting, and spending fall days picking persimmons. If there was a chance to be outdoors, he was all in.

And if there was an opportunity to play a harmless ornery joke on someone… he probably started planning it before you even arrived.

Family and friends quickly learned to be on guard around Kenny. He delighted in convincing newcomers that the best way to get down from a tree was to “ride it to the ground.” If you know, you know. If you don’t… Kenny probably would have had you believing him anyway.

He knew the words to more songs and rhymes than anyone could count and sang them often. His grandchildren grew up listening to bedtime stories about Peter Cottontail and all of his adventures. He loved to share about growing up in Shoals, his life starting out when they first got married, and all of his travels.  

Kenny fiercely loved his family. They were his greatest pride, his greatest joy, and his greatest legacy.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Connie  Lee Gilbert; his daughter, Lucinda Borecky (Steve); his grandchildren, Sarah Burnette (Joshua), Carolyn Harper (Joshua), Katharine Dille (Eric), and Lorinda Walker; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Emma, Greyson, Emery, Haylee, Mylie, Julian, Sawyer, Blake, Ella, Wyatt, and Delinda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Myrtle Gilbert; his beloved daughter, Melinda Walker; and his siblings Ruby Holt, Vernon, Charles, Arthur, Carl, Junior, and Dallas Gilbert.

Kenny was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on March 14, 1973, in Port Charlotte, Florida. His faith quietly guided his life, and he often found comfort in Daniel Chapter 12 and the promise of Psalm 91:14:

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.”

Some people leave behind wealth. Others leave behind accomplishments.

Kenny left behind stories.

Stories that will be retold around kitchen tables. Stories that will be laughed over at family gatherings. Stories about songs, race days, woodworking projects, squirrel hunts, persimmon trees, bedtime adventures, and one unforgettable man who could make an ordinary day feel like the best day of the year.

Timothy Wayne Garofola

Timothy Wayne Garofola, 68, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away on July 13, 2026.

Born on April 11, 1958, in Bedford, Indiana, Tim was the son of the late Joseph “Joe” Garofola Jr. and Patricia Jo (Srygley) Garofola. He graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1976 and spent much of his career working in Indiana’s limestone industry before retiring several years ago.

On May 26, 1979, Tim married Cathy Lynn Sego. Together they shared 47 years of marriage and enjoyed attending local festivals, exploring antique shops, and spending time together. Tim had a lifelong appreciation for classic automobiles, especially Ford Mustangs, and admired the history and craftsmanship they represented. He also loved spending time on the water, enjoyed boating, and in his younger years found joy in playing the guitar.

Tim is survived by his wife, Cathy Lynn Garofola; his son, Aaron Garofola (Ashlea) of Kentucky; his brother, Tracy Garofola (Teresa) of Bedford; his grandchildren, Mackenna, Allayna, Mason, and Landon Garofola, all of Kentucky; a niece; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph “Joe” Garofola Jr. and Patricia Jo Garofola, and his sister, Tina Marie Garofola.

Tim will be remembered for his appreciation of classic cars, his years in the limestone industry, his love of the water, and the memories shared with those who knew him. His family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and expressions of kindness during this difficult time.

Thomas Michael “Mike” Chestnut, 68, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Majestic Care in Bedford. Born on Tuesday, January 14, 1958, in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Betty Jo Bowie Chestnut and the late Tom Chestnut.

Thomas was a die-cast machinist at General Motors Powertrain for many years. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, gardening, and animals, but most of all, he loved his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Mike are his daughters, Carra Lee (Jacob Fox) Harbstreit, Sandra-Dee (Kye) Louden, and Melissa D. Richard L. Moren

Richard L. Moren, 91, of Seymour, In, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at Covered Bridge Health Campus.

Born on September 26, 1934 in Seymour, IN, Richard was the beloved son of Ernest Lloyd and Jean Margaret Moren. He spent his life building meaningful relationships, working hard, and living according to the values that defined him: love, integrity, honesty, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Above all else, Richard was a devoted husband to Barbara. They were married on July 1,1961 and their marriage was built on love, respect, partnership, and an enduring commitment to one another. Together they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.

His greatest pride was his family. As a father to Leann, Scott and Teri, he was a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and strength. He believed in leading by example, teaching the importance of honesty, integrity, hard work, and treating others with kindness and respect. He celebrated every milestone, offered guidance during life's challenges, and never let an opportunity pass to remind his children how deeply they were loved.

He was also a proud step-grandfather to Darion, finding immense joy in watching her grow and participate in sports. Whether through family gatherings, shared traditions, or simply spending time together, he made each person feel valued and loved.

Professionally, Richard spent majority of his career working for Farm Bureau Credit Union. He approached his work with dedication and pride, always striving to do the right thing and give his best. He also spent time with Jacobson and Sons and American Security Company. Richard also served in the US Army from 1957-59.

Outside of work, Richard was very active in the community. He loved organizations that made a difference so he devoted many years to the Seymour Jaycees and was Jaycee of the Year in 1962. He was very active in the Seymour Elks Association and held various offices within the organization. He was State President in 1976. He served as President of the Agricultural Committee for the Seymour Chamber of Commerce and enjoyed the many visits around Jackson County highlighted by the farming community.

Richard enjoyed watching sports, reading, and, above all, supporting his children in every aspect of their lives. He often said that his greatest accomplishment wasn't anything he achieved personally—it was his family. Nothing brought him more joy than watching Leann, Scott, and Teri pursue their passions. Whether it was on the field, the court, the track, or in the classroom, Richard and Barbara were always there, cheering them on. There were many weekends when they found themselves in three different places in a single day, making sure each child knew they had their unwavering support.

Richard took immense pride in his children, and if they accomplished something special, everyone around him was sure to hear about it. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate their successes, big or small, and his pride in them knew no bounds. Over the past 12 years, he rarely missed an IU Women’s Basketball game and would often rewatch games 5 or 6 times to make sure he did not miss anything. He made the front row seat under the basket his home!

He is survived by his children, Leann (Charles) Hutchinson, Scott Moren and Teri (Traci) Moren; his grand-daughter, Darion; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Jean, his beautiful wife, Barbara and his sisters, Ann Brown and Beverly Miller.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of unconditional love, steadfast integrity, quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering encouragement. His influence will continue to live on in the lives of those he loved and in the values he instilled in his family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 6:30pm at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, 419 North Chestnut Street, Seymour, IN. Visitation will also be from 4:00pm-6:30pm on Thursday at Burkholder Chapel. There will be a Private burial at Riverview Cemetery with Military Rites being accorded by the American Legion Post 89 and the VFW Post 1925 of Seymour.

MITCHELL – Lois Marie Terrell, 89, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Redcrest Hospice House.

Born August 10, 1936, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Earl and Mildred “Marie” (Bell) Ratliff.  She married Burl R. Terrell, Jr. on March 17, 1953 and he preceded her in death September 15, 2021.

Lois was the bookkeeper for B & L Auto Repair, which she and her husband owned.  She loved gardening and taking care of her flowers.  She will always be remembered as a loving grandmother.  Lois was a longtime member and faithful servant of Spice Valley Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Terrell of Mitchell; grandchildren, Adam Terrell, Jason (Britt) Ball, Julie (Jeff) Huntsman, Shannon (Ashley) Terrell, Michael Terrell, and Kimberly (Charles) Terrell; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronald Earl (Sharon) Ratliff of Ft. Myers, Florida, Patricia Ann Arnold of Mitchell, Kenneth Eugene Ratliff of Bedford, Margaret Ellen Pluris of Florida, and Charles Edward (Kathy) Ratliff of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; husband; son, Terry Terrell; and siblings, James Lewis Ratliff, Richard Joseph Ratliff, and Linda Kay Ratliff, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Roger Allen officiating.  Burial will be in Spice Valley Cemetery.

Thomas Alan Hudson

MITCHELL – Thomas Alan Hudson, 79, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026, at IU Health University Hospital.

Born September 1, 1946, in Bedford, he was the son of Theodore and Rachel (Short) Hudson.  He married Linda Sue White on December 2, 1967 and she survives.

Thomas worked in the machine shop at Regal Beloit for over 40 years.  He enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels and baseball cards, and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds.  Thomas loved his family and spending time with them brought him much joy – especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Hudson of Mitchell; children, Kathy Jo Dunn of Mitchell, Kimberly Ann (James) Cooper of Mitchell, and Kevin Scott Hudson of Illinois; grandchildren, Roy Wright III, Emily Nichole Wright, Logan Hudson, Quintin Goodman, McKenzie Tuerk, and Shelby Nichole Cooper; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Jon) Mavon of Bedford; and sister-in-law, Sandy Hudson of Bedford.

His parents; daughter, Sueann Hudson; and brother, Warren Hudson, preceded him in death.

Cremation has been chosen.

Jerry Lee Myers

PLAINFIELD – Jerry Lee Myers, 92, formerly of Campbellsburg, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Cumberland Trace Senior Living in Plainfield.

Born December 1, 1933, in Salem, he was the son of Foster K. and Leta A. (Lawyer) Myers.  He married Frances Ehlers on July 1, 1961, and she survives.

Jerry was a U.S. Army Veteran and a 1954 graduate of Campbellsburg High School. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, American Legion Patton Chastain Post No. 195, and Campbellsburg Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Myers of Avon; son, Kelly (Sheryl) Myers of Avon; grandsons, Derek L. Myers and Damon K. Myers.

His parents and brother, Jack Myers, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Campbellsburg with Pastor Greg Strother officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post No. 250.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.

Marvin “Eddie” Edward Guthrie

Marvin “Eddie” Edward Guthrie, 83, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away on Tuesday July 7, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born on August 22, 1942, in Bedford, Indiana to Winferd and Esther (Dalton) Guthrie.

Eddie worked as a handyman, performing a wide variety of general labor throughout his life. Known for his strong work ethic, he was always willing to lend a helping hand and took pride in helping others whenever he could. His kindness, dependability, and willingness to serve those around him will be remembered by all who knew him. Eddie married Beverly “Diane” Crane, and she preceded him in death.

Eddie was also preceded by his parents; siblings: Darlene Ritchie, Tom Guthrie, Wanda Chapman, Sherri Warner, and Jerry Guthrie.

He will be fondly remembered by his daughter, Kimberly Guthrie; siblings: Saundra Hardin and Keith David Guthrie; niece and caretaker, Kathren “Kat” Kluemper; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana with Pastor Dennis Cecil to officiate. A visitation will take place the same day between 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Anderson Cemetery, Shoals, Indiana.

James Wendell Gaddis

MITCHELL – James Wendell Gaddis, 67, passed away Monday, July 6, 2026, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born July 5, 1959, in Bedford, he was the son of James Calvin and Mary Etta (Gaines) Gaddis.

James was a 1977 graduate of Mitchell High School and received his Associates degree from Ivy Tech.  He retired as a purchaser from Cook Medical after 23 years.  He loved the Chicago Cubs and the Purdue Boilermakers, and enjoyed cruising around in his car.  James was supportive to all his grandkids and loved being with them.

Surviving are his daughter, Arika (Kyle Pursell) Gaddis of Mitchell; grandchildren, Harrison Fowler, Eloise Pursell, and Theodore Pursell; and siblings, Joyce Eva Agan of Mitchell, Gene (Betty) Gaddis of Mitchell, and Rebecca Gaddis of Mitchell.

His parents; siblings, Ruth Ann Beasley, Connie Keene, and Mary Smith; and nephew, James Michael Gaddis, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

Montie G. Prince

August 17, 1941-July 4, 2026

Montie G. Prince, age 84, of Seymour, passed away on Saturday July 4, 2026. Mr. Prince was born August 17, 1941, on a farm near Tampico, IN to Thomas Z. and Ethel G. (Reynolds) Prince. He was baptized at Russell Chapel Methodist Church in 1952, confirmed on April 11, 1965 by Rev. Victor Mack at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since May 3, 1965.

After graduating from Tampico High School in 1960, Montie enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably as a military policeman from June 1960 to June 1963, stationed in Germany for most of his service time. He was a graduate of Concordia College (University), Seward, NE, and Indiana University. He was employed by Cummins Engine Company for seven years, taught one year at an elementary school in Seward, NE, and one year at an elementary school at Break of Day in New Whiteland, IN. He was then employed twenty-nine years by the Seymour School System as a teacher, assistant principal (Brown Elementary) and principal (Redding Elementary). On September 8, 1963, he married Barbara Ann Wonning at Redeemer Lutheran Church. They shared 63 years together and raised four children.

Surviving Montie is his wife, Barbara; his children, Monica (Greg) Kiste, Marcia (Brad) Banister, Matthew (Susan) Prince, and Mark (Sara) Prince; grandchildren, Jacob (Heather) Kiste, Jesse (Kelly) Kiste, Nicholaus (Chelsea) Banister, Clayton (McKenzie) Banister, Hannah Prince, Rachel Prince, Sarah Prince, Luke Prince, Taylor Prince, Tyler Prince, and Treyton Owens; step-granddaughters, Lilly Burchell and Cassie Burchell; great grandson, Tatum Banister; and Baby Kiste expected in October. Also surviving are his sisters, Joyce Wright, Barbara Silence and Lucy Prince; sister-in-law, Helen Prince; brother-in-law, Earl (Judy) Wonning; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Nancy Prince; brothers, Jerald Prince and Randall Prince; and brothers-in-law, Michael Wright and Lester Silence.

Funeral services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 504 N. Walnut Street, Seymour, IN, on Saturday, July 11 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Currao officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran. He will be laid to rest following the service at Russell Chapel Cemetery (Hwy. 39 out of Tampico), with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post 89 and VFW Post 1925.

Memorials may be given in honor to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Immanuel Lutheran School, or the donor’s choice.

Phillip Dale Lynn


June 6, 1959 – June 30, 2026

Phillip Dale Lynn, 67, of Bedford, passed away at his home on June 30, 2026. He was born on June 6, 1959, to the late Raymond and Thelma Lynn. He was married to Rhea Dawn Salmon for more than 30 years, and she preceded him in death in September 2025.

Phil was a hardworking man who built a life with his own hands. From running a body shop, pouring concrete, or working in the wood shop, he took pride in his work. But what mattered most to him was his family. Some of our favorite memories are of him taking us to play basketball, spending summer days tending to his garden, and quietly watching the birds and rabbits in the yard. He found joy in life’s simple moment and shared that joy with the people he loved. We will remember his laughter, his strength, and the countless moments we shared together.

Surviving to cherish Phil’s memory are his children, Nicole Dawn Staggs, Anthony (Gabrielle) Lynn, Robert (Weverton Ataide Pinheiro) Lynn, Jona (Terry) Pemberton, and Dale Lynn; his grandchildren, Makenzie Staggs, Shawn Staggs, Kristen Pemberton, Megan Terrell, Maverick Lynn, Ivy Staggs, Claire Abell, Karter Pemberton, and Lynnox Terrell; his brother, Walter Lynn; and his nephew, Donald Blackey.

James Millard Baker

December 16, 1944 – June 27, 2026

James Millard Baker, 81, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away at Redcrest Hospice in Bloomington, Indiana. Born December 16, 1944, he was the son of Millard and Pearl (Boise) Baker.

James worked in construction and loved playing pool and cards. He also loved going to the boat and fishing.

Left to cherish his memory is his significant other, Carolyn Parrot; one daughter, Teresa (James) Inman; two grandsons, Tyson Schofield and Darren Inman; family members, Philip Baker, Micka (Shawnna) Baker, Dustin Baker, Pearl Baker, Rocky Baker, and Michael Wayne Baker; seven great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Pearl (Boise) Baker; twelve brothers and sisters; and one son, Robert Moffit.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford, Indiana, with Pastor Chris Brooks officiating.

Regina Kaye Long

FREEDOM – Regina Kaye Long, 76, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026, at her residence.

Born October 27, 1949, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Robert William Sr. and Mary Frances (Treadway) Kent.  She married Robert Darrell Long, Sr. on April 27, 1965 and he preceded her in death January 16, 2023.

Regina worked at Big O’s Pizza in Martinsville and retired from Hardees as part of the management team.  Family was important and she loved spending time with them and helping them any way she could.  She raised her three boys and then helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Family game nights, Sunday dinners, and sleepovers with the grandchildren are cherished memories.  Regina enjoyed coming to Mitchell to visit with her siblings.  She was a long time member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

Surviving are her sons, Robert (Shelley) Long, Jr. of Freedom, Richard Long of Camby, and Ronald Long of Mooresville; grandchildren, Curtis (Nicole) Long, Bobby (Joanna) Long, Colton Long, Tim (Katlyn) Long, Cody Long, Quinton Long, Faith (John) Rannabargar, and Garrett Long; great-grandchildren, Emma, Harper, Renly, Titan, Kay-Lynn, Kennedy, Scarlett, and Rowan; siblings, David (Wilma Sage) Kent of Mitchell, Donald Kent of California, and Agatha Kimble of Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Carol Kent of Bedford.

Her parents; husband; siblings, Joseph Kent, Roger Kent, Robert “Buddy” Kent, Jr. and Leona Stroud; and brother-in-law, Carl Kimble, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from Noon until the time of the service on Saturday, July 11, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Phyllis “Jean” Waldbieser

MITCHELL – Phyllis “Jean” Waldbieser, 85, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, at her residence.

Born July 8, 1940, in Linton, she was the daughter of Roy and Ruth (Harbaugh) Maybaugh.  Jean married Dale Waldbieser on June 30, 1962 and he preceded her in death September 27, 2014.

Jean was a 1958 graduate of Clay City High School and attended beauty school.  She was a beautician, farmer, and was co-founder of Sugar Creek Sporting Clays and Hunting Preserve, which she started with her family.  Jean was a member of the Homemaker’s Club, and enjoyed gardening and canning.  She was compassionate and cared for both her parents and her in-laws until they passed.  Jean was of the Christian faith.

Surviving are her children, Kris (Jim) Sergio of Mitchell and Brian (Andrea) Waldbieser of Mitchell; grandchildren, Stephanie (Joe Bradley) Baker of Mitchell and Briley (Kirk) Denny of Orleans; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Denny; sister-in-law, Ann Maybaugh; and her dog, Parker, who was her joy for the last few years.

Her parents; husband; and brother, Ronald Maybaugh, preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at Brown Cemetery in Center Point, Indiana, with Pastor Anthony Moore officiating.

Elsie Marie Bunch

BEDFORD – Elsie Marie Bunch, 71, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born July 27, 1954, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of Charles and Alice (Oricks) Gabbard.

Elsie worked at Dana Corporation for over 20 years.  She enjoyed line dancing and working in her garden.  She loved fishing, and she was really good at it!  But, most of all, she loved spending time with her grandkids and family.

Surviving are her daughters, Nancy (Kevin) Wagner of Bedford and Diana (Brad) Branham of Bedford; grandchildren, Chyanne (Jordan) Prince, Hunter Branham, Gavin Branham, Emily Wagner, and Carter Wagner, all of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Haedyn Prince and Harley Prince; siblings, Connie (Mark) Vester of Terre Haute, Diane (Jim) Shorter of Terre Haute, Randy (Elizabeth) Gabbard of Terre Haute, and Terry Gabbard of Terre Haute; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Lacey and Buttercup.

Her parents and siblings, Patsy Black, Carolyn Willis, Ella Reely, Robert Gabbard, Donald Gabbard, Charles Gabbard, Timothy Gabbard, Michael Gabbard, Chester Gabbard, and Debbie Glaspie, preceded her in death.
