Philip Earl Nicholson

Philip Earl Nicholson, of Campbellsburg, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 12:25 P.M. at Garden Villa, in Bedford, IN.
He was born on June 25, 1935 in Lawrence Co., IN to John and Elma (Phipps) Nicholson the 9th child out of ten born to them. Philip was a 1955 graduate of Campbellsburg High School.
Philip worked many years as a truck driver for B.F. Goodrich, and then retired from Jeans Extrusions, Salem. He was a member of Sugar Creek Christian Church.
Philip truly loved owning and riding horses his entire life. He was always willing to help family members bale hay, move hay, farm and anything else they may need help with. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and was proud of each and every one of them.
Survivors include, two sons: Brian (Beth) Nicholson of Campbellsburg, and Ken (Nancy) Nicholson of Vallonia. Two daughters: Cindy (David) Reed of Homer, GA, and Jill (Eric) Gilmer of Cumming, GA.
Eight grandchildren: Kevin (Tonetta) Nicholson, Krey Nicholson, Kala (Matt) Nicholson-Cline, Samantha (Brandon) Nicholson Crockett, Jessica (Jason) Miller Burrell, Stephanie (Justin) Miller Murphey, Corinne (Ryan) Gilmer, Erin (Jason) Gilmer, and 9 step-grandchildren.
Eight great-grandchildren: Dallas and Skyler Nicholson, Eli and Carson Crockett, Caitlyn, Megan and Benjamin Burrell, and Savannah Murphey, 10 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.
Philip is also survived by one sister: Phyllis Nicholson Maudlin of Athens, AL, two sisters-in-law: Ellen and Nancy, and several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Carolyn Morris Nicholson in 1998, six brothers: Leo, Wayne, Laurel, Maurice, Cecil, and John David, and two sisters: Mildred and Bethel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 P.M. at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cavetown Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10AM-until time of service at the funeral home.

John Thomas Knox

John Thomas Knox, 84, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at his daughter’s residence in Wadesville.
Born Jan. 1, 1936, in Hazard, Kentucky, he was the son of Carl Benjamin and Bertha Mae (Poynter) Knox. He married Elizabeth Ann Marlowe June 8, 1956, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 2015.
John retired from General Motors and had worked at Carpenter Body Works. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1955. John was a member of the First Baptist Church and IBEW Local No. 16. He was a 50-year member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F. & A.M.
John enjoyed golfing, genealogy, and watching sports. He loved being with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include his daughter, Julia Leann (Michael) Butler of Wadesville; grandchildren, Julio Knox, Jonathon Knox, Haley Stevens, Jordan Butler and Madison Butler; and great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Landry Stevens.
His parents; wife; son, Richard Carl Knox; sisters; Margaret Lutes, Beatrice Brown, Virginia Shacklette, Juanita Brown, Jeanette Napier, Betty King and Carrie Knox; and brothers, Don, Pete, Everett, Vivian and Edward Knox, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with the Rev. Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
A memorial service conducted by Masonic Lodge No. 228 F. & A.M. will be at 1:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service Monday at the funeral home.

LouEtta Sullivan, 83, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Bliss Place.
Born February 13, 1937, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Dick and Goldie (Holt) Milligan. She married John G. Sullivan June 18, 1955, and he preceded her in death December 10. 2005.
LouEtta was a Salvation Army Officer and retired in 2000 with 40 years of service. She and her husband dedicated their lives to helping others and traveled all 50 states and several countries.
Surviving are her children; Marc and Lorie Sullivan of Davenport, Iowa, Daniel and Dana Sullivan of Omaha, Nebraska, Deborah and Al Drumm of McCausland, Iowa, Judith and Mark Harrington of Forest City, Iowa, niece and daughter at heart; Cindy Milligan of Bedford, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, sisters; Shirley Mounce of Mitchell, Brenda Luchauer of Mitchell.
Her parents; husband; and brothers, Lowell Tom Milligan and Fay Holt, preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, at Mitchell Cemetery.

Mary Catherine Pritchett

Mary Catherine Darcus Pritchett, 86, of Bedford, passed away on Oct. 28, 2020, at her residence.
Born May 11, 1934, she was the daughter of Enoch and Zelma (Allen) Patton. She married William Harry Darcus and he preceded her in October of 1996. She then married Austin “Pete” Pritchett and he survives.
Mary was self-employed and attended Leatherwood Christian Church.
Mary had many animals that were a big part of her life and she loved them unconditionally. She loved gardening and had the most beautiful flower beds that she kept and maintained until she was 84 years old.
Mary also loved her children and grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending as much time with them as she could.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Austin “Pete” Pritchett of Bedford; two daughters, Debra (Kevin) Stailey of Bedford and Cindy (Dennis) Hardin of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Lindsey Faubion, Catherine Hays and Marcus Hays; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lexi Faubion; two stepchildren, Aaron (Julie) Pritchett and Kristin (Steve) Messmore; five step-grandchildren, McKenzie Messmore, Austin Messmore, Ben Pritchett, Kirby Stailey and Kurt Stailey; several step-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Sue Wilhite, Phyllis Parker and Judy McCart; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William Harry Darcus; one sister; one brother; and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral service for Mary will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Pastor Sherman Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Judah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Sandy Chilton, 73, of Newburgh, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020.
She was born on Oct. 26, 1946, in Tell City, to Robert and Helen (Moorhead) Windles.
She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a medical billing specialist for Custom Data. Sandy was always available whenever anyone needed help. She was an animal lover.
Sandy and her husband enjoyed camping and laying on the beach in Florida.
She was “Nana” to everybody, her main love was her family.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Craig Hopkins and Von Windles.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim Chilton; stepfather, Charles Hopkins; son, Steve Chilton (Tammy); son, Brian Chilton (Lori); grandchildren, Tara Hagler (Jeff), Whitney Houchin (Jacob), Kyle Chilton (Kimberly), Logan Greene, Hayden Chilton and Carter Chilton; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Easton, Adalynn, Emma, Joel, Vincent, Skyler and Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.
Sandy’s wish was to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Nov. 7, 2020, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261.

Gilbert Lynne Jamison, 72, formerly of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, at his residence.
Born Oct. 30, 1947, in Ryder, North Dakota, he was the son of Ralph Ivan and Lina Bernice (Patton) Jamison. He married Linda Lou White Dec. 27, 1966, and she preceded him in death Jan. 25, 1998.
Gilbert had been employed at various stone mills. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 689 where he enjoyed playing cards. Gilbert’s hobbies include his vehicles, reading, country music, and hanging out with his best friend, Mike Lee.
Survivors include his children, Shannon LeeAnn (Dallas) Roll of Bedford and Dustin Lynne (Susie) Jamison of Williams; grandchildren, Kevin, Dickie, Brittany, Matthew, Dustin, Devin, and Linda; and several great-grandchildren.
His parents; wife; son, Michael Lynne Jamison; fiancée, Anita Collins; and siblings, Joan Cramer, Earl Ivan Jamison and Judy Hawkins, preceded him in death.

Born January 10, 1939 in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Opal Morris and Mary Ford. She had worked at General Motors and was a member of Tabernacle of Praise. She loved her life, always living it on her terms. She loved freely and laughed often.
Survivors include two daughters, Terra Norman, of Bedford, and Joni Albietz, of Inglis, FL; two sons, Jeff Albietz (Alicia), of Heltonville, and Brandon McKeaigg (Lisa), of Bedford; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ken Ford, of Florida and Paul Ford (Patty), of Heltonville. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob and Bill Ford; a sister, JoAnn Brent; a granddaughter, Jennifer Norman Everage and a son-in-law, Greg Norman.

Bert H. Caswell, Jr., 79, of Mitchell, passed away at 12:29 am on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at I.U. Health Hospice House.
Born June 24, 1941, in Upton, KY, he was the son of Bert H. and Della (Taylor) Caswell. He married Judith Duggins on June 22, 1979 and she survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired as a supervisor in public works at NWSC CRANE. He was a life-long member of the Bedford Boat & Sportsman’s Club, a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion, V.F.W. of Mitchell, and AmVets in Bloomington.
Survivors include his wife, Judith, of Mitchell; a daughter, Teri Cazee, of Oregon; a son, Timothy Caswell (Audra), of Edinburgh, IN; grandchildren, Kiersey (Evan) Denief, Darsey (Bryan) Caswell Buquer, Mason Caswell, Gretchen Cazee, Morgan (Sarah) Cazee Widham; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bobby, Jerry, and Tommy; a sister, Sue Funkhouser.

Ellen E. Wykoff, 93, of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.
She was born, Aug. 21, 1927, in Bedford, daughter of the late Thomas and Dorothy Dodd.
Before retirement, Ellen was employed by Horne’s. She was a member of the Second Ponce de Leon Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wykoff; son, Donald Wykoff Jr.; two grandsons; and two brothers, Thomas and Ralph Dodd of Bedford.
She is survived by her four sons, Philip and his wife, Georgene of Oxford, Georgia, Kent and friend, Lynne of Midlothian, Virginia, Mark and his wife, Christa of Jamestown, North Carolina, Matthew and friend, Cindy of N. Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Jennie Scott of Irwin, Pennsylvania and Sue Ann Hillenburg and her husband, Garris of Bedford; eight grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Long Run Cemetery.

Michael Ray Roberts, age 38, of Shoals, passed away October 26, 2020 at the IU Medical Center in Bedford.
Born August 29, 1982 in Lawrence County, he is the son of Richard and Rita (Flinn) Roberts. In Michael’s spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed getting out and riding his four-wheeler, and being around the horses. Michael enjoyed when the family got together for cookouts and spending time by the bonfires telling stories of the good old days.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Rita Roberts of Shoals; one daughter, Lynn Ann Nicole Wilson of Shoals; one brother, Danny Roberts of Shoals; one sister, Jessica (Steve) Chybinski of Bedford; two nephews, Stephen Chybinski and Justin Roberts both of Bedford; and his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be 4 to 6:30 PM Wednesday at the family residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the family residence. Burial will be in the Brock Cemetery.

Bonnie S. Cain, 72, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 at her residence.
Born April 2, 1948, she was the daughter of Earl W. and Magaleen (Allen) Meador. She married Clyde E. Cain on Oct. 11, 1991 and he survives.
Bonnie graduated from Arlington High School in Indianapolis and earned an associates degree from Indiana Business School. She was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Cecil C. Martin Lodge of Mitchell and a lifetime member of the Bedford Boat Club. Bonnie retired from NSWC Crane after 38 years.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Bonnie are her husband, Clyde of Bedford; one son, Samuel (Daria) Terrell of Brownsburg, Indiana; one daughter, Jennifer Terrell of Darlington, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jaron, Preston and Kailyn Terrell; one great grandchild, Magaleen Terrell; two sisters, Earlette Lee and Wendy (Mark) Pruitt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; and one step-daughter, Jennifer White.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, Bedford. Visitation will precede the service, starting at noon and continuing until the service hour of 2:00 p.m.

Flora E. Hall, 89, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020 at Stonebridge Health Campus, Bedford.
Born Aug. 6, 1931, she was the daughter of Robert Harley and Mary Ruth (Alexander) Cassidy. She married Charles Franklin Hall, Sr. in 1947 and he preceded her in death.
Flora was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Flora are her daughter, Charla Flynn of Bedford; two grandchildren, Miles Randall (Stacie) Flynn of Paoli and Brontee Anderson of Bedford; three brothers; three sisters; several nieces and nephews; one great grandchild, Alexandra Flynn; and one son-in-law, Steve Anderson of Bedford.

Cinda Ellen Todd, 72, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born March 27, 1948, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of David and Kathryn (Faris) Wade. She married Terry L. Todd and he preceded her in death August 28, 2004.
Cinda was a medical assistant and had been employed by Dr. Kendrick, Dr. Oswalt, and Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was a graduate of Tunnelton High School, loved Indiana University basketball, her grandson’s band, “Blind Rebel,” and spending time with her great grandkids.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law; Debbie (Pat) Jones of Columbus, grandchildren; Ashley Marie (Mark Caraway) Miller of Heltonville, Kyle David (Lacey Lovett) Miller of Dubuque, Iowa, Taylor Nicole Miller of Columbus, great grandchildren; Xander Wade Pace, Willow Michelle Caraway, and Kolton Wade Miller, brother; Lynn (Nedra) Wade of Bedford, sister;

Daniel Lynn “Dan” Hall

Daniel Lynn “Dan” Hall, 67, of Brownstown, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Seymour on Jan. 24, 1953, the son of the late Glenn and Rettia (Fleetwood) Hall.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Karen Jo “Jody” Weesner, whom he married on Aug. 14, 1982.
Dan attended Clearspring School and graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1971. He was baptized as a teenager in the spring of 1967. He attended Norman Christian Church and transferred his membership to Brownstown Christian Church on Nov. 3, 1996.
Dan worked in retail for 51 years until he retired from Martin & Bayley Inc. Convenience Stores in May of 2020 after managing the Huck’s Food & Fuel in Brownstown for 11 years.
Since 2001, he served as a dedicated board member of the Brownstown Central Community School Corporation for 20 years.
Dan was a big fan of IU Basketball, as well as a NASCAR and dirt track racing enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, river rafting and off-roading in the many Jeeps he owned over the years. He loved his hometown of Norman, Indiana.
He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and a dear friend to many. He was really looking forward to becoming grandpa to his future grandson, Miles Daniel Hall. He adored the family dog, Snoopy, and his grand-dogs, Winston, Ellie, Wrigley and Kika.
He is survived by his wife, Jody; their children, Jonathan Daniel (Kelsey) Hall of Medora and Chelsie Lynn (Cameron) Skurka of Columbus; grandson, Miles Daniel Hall expected in February of 2021; one brother, Jerry D. (Carolyn) Hall of Norman; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Kenneth Hall; and one sister, Judith Karen McKinney.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Brownstown Christian Church in Brownstown. Friends and family may call at the church on Friday from 3-7 p.m and Saturday after 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.

Elizabeth A. Hickman, 70, of Loogootee died on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at her residence.
Born on January 3, 1950, she was the daughter of Byrl T. Jenkins and Louise E. Jenkins. She married John Tony Hickman on August 17, 1967. She attended Shoals High School, and received her Master’s degree from Oakland City University where she taught for twelve years at the campus in Bedford, IN.
She was a member of Loogootee United Methodist Church, was a devout follower of Jesus Christ from her childhood and was known for her strong faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two of her siblings, Anah and Stephen.
Mrs. Hickman is survived by her husband, daughter Joy E. Speer of Odon, sons: John T. Hickman of Bedford, and Jeremy Hickman of Greenwood; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and four siblings, David, Joseph, Mark, and Philip.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, October 27th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Mark Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Silverville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 am until the hour of service on Tuesday, October 27th at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Wilbur R. Webb age 94 of Bedford passed away on October 22, 2020 at 12:05 AM at IU Health in Paoli.
He was born in Lawrence County on March 25, 1926 to Leslie and Eva (Pierce) Webb. Wilbur married Mary Wagoner on December 7, 1947 and she survives.
Wilbur retired from NAD Crane where he was a supervisor, he also received many awards at Crane for improving production, he was a member of the Bedford First Baptist Church, Bedford American Legion Post #33, Bedford Masonic Lodge #14, LCI Association, he was a US Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 73 years, Mary Webb, two daughters, Diane Kinkead, and Brenda (Ron) Stevens, granddaughters, Melody Bugh and fiancée Tim Duncan, and his daughter, Megan, Lisa (Dave) Hood, Great grandsons, Levi (Kate) Cobb, Tyler Johnson and girlfriend, Lacie, Dallas (Hannah) Cobb, Josh Johnson and fiancée, Katelynn and son, Owen and Devin Cobb, Great great grandson, Jameson Johnson, one brother, Oscar Webb.

Born October 6, 1936, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of James Madison and Mildred Angeline (Horne) Jarvis. She married Winchell Harry Hobbs July 3, 1964, and he preceded her in death August 19, 2007.
Diana retired from RCA. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and fishing. She was a former member of Club 55 Bowling League.

Born Nov. 15, 1944, in Somerset, Kentucky, he was the son of Bryce and Essie (Thacker) Melton. He married Carolyn (Baker) Grow Oct. 20, 1984.
Paul worked many years at Mills Market and retired from the Jay-C Food Store. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1962 and was a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F. & A.M. He enjoyed woodworking, watching western movies, and collecting western memorabilia. Yard work, landscaping, and being with his family were his favorite activities.
Paul was a member of New Hope Community Church and loved his church family.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (Baker) Grow Melton of Mitchell; daughters, Beth True of Springville and Jennifer (Chris) Bush of Mitchell; stepsons, Kevin (Sheryl) Grow of Columbus, Brian (Misty) Grow of Mitchell, and Brad (Amy) Grow of Springville; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Cecil Melton of Mitchell and Phil (Lori) Melton of Mitchell.

Timothy Dean Voorhies, 78, died Oct. 10, 2020, at home in North Port, Florida. Timothy was born Dec. 9, 1941, in Bedford, Lawrence County, Indiana, to Gladys Irene (Fisher) and Richard Voorhies.
After graduating in 1960 from Shawswick High School in Lawrence County, Indiana, Timothy went on to earn his B.S. Degree in 1966 from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, and his M.S. Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1971.
Timothy joined the faculty of Bartholomew County School Corporation in Columbus, Indiana, where he taught high school mathematics for 32 years.
He was a member of Edgewater United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte, Florida, and a member of Mason Blue Lodge in Hope, Indiana. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, ballroom dancing and genealogy research.
Preceding him in death are his grandmother, Mellie (Harrell) Fisher; mother, Gladys Irene (Fisher) Voorhies; father, Richard Voorhies; and sister, Barbara Jean (Voorhies) Fortner.
Timothy is survived by his wife, Laura (Boultinghouse) Voorhies of North Port, Florida; and his godson, Troy Thompson of Vallonia, Indiana.
Timothy wishes to be remembered as a loving son and husband who loved life and whose greatest joys were times with his wife, Laura.

Robert “Bob” Dean Sears entered eternal rest on October 18, 2020 at 7:50pm at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
He was born December 22, 1942 to Robert Eugene and Mary Louise Lavendar Sears. He was of the Christian faith. He graduated from Heltonville High School in 1962. He worked thirty-eight years for Cummins Engine Company.
On September 23, 1989 he married Carol Hillenburg and she survives. Also surviving are one son Barry Sears, one daughter April (Brent) Whitson, one step-son David (Mellonie) Kern, two step-daughters Michelle (Richard) Wykoff and Angela (Eugene) Johnson. Also surviving are five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother Ronald (Shirley) Sears, Darrell Sears, two sisters, Cheryl (Rod) Rance and Mary Faith (Bryan) Jones. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother David Sears in infancy, his in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Emert Hillenburg and a brother-in-law Kenneth Hillenburg.
His interests were family, friends, IU basketball and classic cars.

Janet Sue (Hutton) Stewart, 82, of Bedford, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, at her residence.
Born Sept. 20, 1938, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of James Quincy and Thora Belle (Short) Hutton. She was affectionately known as “Momma Sue” to many people. Grandma Sue was nurturing. She shared anything she had. She would let anybody who needed a place to stay sleep on her couch, or even her porch swing if the couch was full. Grandma was a good cook; she could literally make “anything” taste good and she fed anyone who came over, hungry or not. Grandma was supportive. She never judged. She always loved you wherever you were in life. You always got a smile, a hug, and a slightly wet kiss on your cheek and you just felt loved. Seen. Felt. Known.
Janet retired as a waitress from Golden Gables Restaurant. She also worked as a CNA and at Pleasers. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Mitchell Senior Citizen Center, where she loved to dance.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Janet are: her seven children, Bobby Stewart, Christy Wright, Theresa Ferguson, Gordon Stewart, Julia Merrill, Curtis Stewart and Misty Sanders; 19 grandchildren, Carmen, Kaly, Stacy, Jon, Amber, Bronson, Bill, Jessica, James, Brian, Nikki, Tyson, Talia, Sydnee, Sophie, Josh, Camron, Gage and Zane; 38 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Diana Lee McNeely Chastain, 74, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.
Born Sept. 16, 1946, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Billy Lee and Doris Mae (Hedrick) McNeely. She married Charles (Chocky) Chastain in September of 1980.
Diana had been employed at Spring Mill Inn and retired from Cook Medical Inc. She was a Campbellsburg High School Warrior and graduated in the class of 1964. Diana attended the Bedford First Church of God and Fervent Prayer Ministries in Indianapolis.
Diana enjoyed being with her family and watching Victor Oladipo, Indiana University basketball, and the Indiana Pacers. She loved watching races, especially her step-grandsons, Tanner, Tucker and Trey Chastain and John Gill, and NASCAR. Diana took pleasure in family cookouts on the farm, going to Holiday World with Tim on company picnics, watching Jo’el dance at church, and Jesscee play travel baseball. She wanted to go to Gulf Shores, Alabama, one more time to watch Jesscee play baseball. Diana is now in the presence of the Lord.

Clifford Robert Teague, 92, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 at White River Lodge in Bedford.
Born December 17, 1927, Garland County, Arkansas, he was the son of James Eldridge and Ada (Irwin) Teague. Clifford married Wilma Lou Hatley on February 28, 1946 and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2009.
He was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Bedford and retired from General Motors where he worked in the Pistons Department.

Julie Lynn (Holland) Pursell, 62 of Springville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 18th, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, following a brief illness.
She was born January 18th, 1958, the daughter of Robert and Phyllis (Hill) Holland. Julie attended Edgewood High School in Ellettsville and graduated with the class of 1976. She married Charles Pursell, her husband of 30 years, on December 30th, 1989.
Julie was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. No matter the circumstance, her children and grandchildren were her number one priority. Julie loved riding motorcycles with her husband, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog Sophie.
Julie is survived by her husband Charles Pursell; three sons Bob Bruhn (Chantel Smitson), Charley Ray Pursell (Miranda Duncan), and Dave Bruhn (Melissa Choate); one daughter, Amanda (Charlie) Smith; two brothers Kelly (Angie) Holland and Darren (Melissa) Holland; sister-in-law Pam Holland; her father Robert Holland; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Julie was “Mamaw” to twelve grandchildren: Ashley Bruhn, Jordan Bruhn, Savannah Bruhn, Juliannah Bruhn, Damien Bruhn, Sierra Bruhn, Kylan Bruhn, Kayana Smitson, Kaiser Smitson, Brylee Pursell, Noah Smith, and Joelle Smith; and two great-grandchildren: Evalyn Martinez and Nolan Mayer.
She was preceded in death by her mother Phyllis Holland; two brothers William Holland and Tracy Holland; and infant grandson David William Bruhn.
She was loved and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 22nd, 2020 from 4pm to 8pm at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville. Funeral Services will begin Friday at noon, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Garrison Chapel Church.

Shirley R. George, 83, of Bedford, passed away at 8:52 am on Friday, October 16, 2020 at her residence.
Born May 15, 1937, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of William and Hazel (Martin) Cummings. She married Murl D. Flinn in 1958 and he preceded her in death on January 28, 1985. She later married Chester E. George on February 9, 1989 and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Eldena Mae Wilson, of Clarksville, Rita Carol Roberts and husband, Richard, of Shoals, and Frieda Kay Flinn of Bedford; a son, Kevin D. Flinn of Heltonville; a step-daughter, Beverly Morrison and husband, Larry, of Norman; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Cathrine Ramsey, Thelma Stevens, Essie Blackwell, and Ruth Cummings; four brothers, Carl, Joseph, Harold, and Leon Cummings.

Carl Loran Fields, age 89 of Addison, TX and most recently of Palmetto, FL, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
Carl was born on October 14, 1931 in Lawrence County, IN to Charlie and Violet (Pierce) Fields. He graduated from Fayetteville High School. He was joined in marriage to Marie Cobb on February 2, 1951 in Avoca, IN.
Carl joined the Air Force in 1951 and served for four years where he was trained as an Air Traffic Controller. He began working for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller at the Air Route Traffic Control Center in Indianapolis, IN in 1960 and retired in June of 1989. Carl and Marie then moved to Florida where he spent an additional 10 years as an instructor at the ARTCC in Miami, FL.
He was active in church and served as Church Secretary-Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, song leader, and board member. Carl and Marie were founding members of Cornerstone Worship Center in Bedford, IN and Bethel Family Worship Center in Indianapolis, IN. He enjoyed golf, yard work, and traveling in his motor home with the love of his life, his wife Marie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Charles Jr and Cecil), a sister (Maggie Fisher), and one son-in-law (Roger Dowd).
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie; four children; Carolyn Dowd of Euless, TX, Janice (Gary) Mosier of Broken Arrow, OK, Teresa (Doug) Carpenter of New Palestine, IN, and Carl David (Mary) Fields of Farmers Branch, TX and by one brother, Allen Wayne Fields of Springville, IN. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Brian Dowd, Lisa Ivey, Jennifer Hendrix, Gary Mosier II, Tim Dowd, Amy Emerson, Stacey Carpenter, Dani Agre, and Connor Fields, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was loved and respected by many people. One long-time friend spoke for many when he said, “…I appreciate his great life; he is one of my heroes.”
Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 22nd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, 1133 Lincoln Avenue, Bedford, IN 47421 with Rev. Carl David Fields officiating. Jackson Wayne Reynolds, age 26 of Orono, Maine, formerly of Bedford, Indiana passed away on Thursday the 15th of October 2020.
Born July 17, 1994, he was the son of Jeff (& Audra) Reynolds and Kelly (& Michael) Clark. Grandson to Carol & Jack Reynolds and Connie & Larry Kirkman. He was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence Class of 2013. He was a senior at University of Maine where he was employed by the university.
Jackson had a very adventurous spirit. He went on mission trips to Africa. He loved to travel, make music, and had a knack for making people laugh. He earned his pilot’s license in 2013 and enjoyed flying with his dad, brother, and friends. He also loved hiking, sailing, fishing, and scuba diving.
Jackson is survived by parents, Jeff and Audra Reynolds, Kelly and Michael Clark. Maternal grandmother Connie Kirkman and paternal grandmothers, Carol Reynolds and Mary Ann Roach. His siblings Whitney Reynolds, AJ Reynolds, Presley Clark, and Chesney Clark. His aunts and uncles, Debbie (& Jimmy) Ernst, Rita (& Greg) Noble, Tammy (& Tony) Young, John (& Tracy) Roach, Jay (& Karen) Roach along with his cousins; Leslie, Hayden, Elli, & Fender Noble; Blake (& Marcela) Chastain; Kyla (& Stevie) Terrell; Kody Young; Justin, Matthew, Nicholas, & Allison Roach. He was loved by many great aunts and great uncles too.
Jackson was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Larry Kirkman and his paternal grandfathers, Jack Reynolds, Bob Roach, and Jackson’s Aunt Stacey Reynolds.

Charles W. Ray age 95 of Bedford passed away on Thursday October 15, 2020 at 9:26 AM at IU Bedford Hospital.
He was born in Malvern, Arkansas on August 28, 1925 to Clyde Ray and Molly (Sanders) Ray. He married Betty Ray, she along with his parents preceded him in death.
Charles retired from General Motors in Bedford after 36 years of service, he was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Bedford, he was a World War II Veteran serving in the US Air Force.
Survivors include three children, Elizabeth Ann Ray, Charles William Wray and Charla Marie Ray, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday October 20, 2020 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Bedford with Father Jegan Peter and Deacon Dave Reising, officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites by the Bedford American Legion Post #33.

Kenneth Scott Foddrill age 75 of Bedford passed away on October 16, 2020 at 10:15 AM at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
He was born in Long Beach, California on February 19, 1945 to Kenneth D. Foddrill and Mary M. (Carter) Foddrill. Kenny was a graduate of Bedford High School in 1963, and also attended Indiana University. He was an US Army Veteran stationed in Korea. He retired from GM Powertrain after 33 years of service. After retirement he worked at two golf courses pro shops and also as a sales associate at J.C. Penny. He married Judi Dillard Woody on July 3, 1990 and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2017, he was of protestant faith.
Kenny’s interests were all IU sports, Colts football, Pacers basketball, and with his love of golfing with his buddies, he scored two holes in one, he enjoyed his dogs, Mini, Binki, and Chigger. He was a lifetime member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club and the Bedford American Legion Post #33. His parents and wife preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Kyle Foddrill, Kara (Greg) Mahuron, and Kory Foddrill, granddaughter, Kalli Cheek, step-children, Tami (Jason) Verbick and Darin (Melissa) Woody, three step-grandchildren, Sam Verbick, Ilena Verbick, and Evan Woody, also special friend and cousin, Danny (Linda) Foddrill.

Born February 25, 1921 in Williams, she was the daughter of Louis and Anna Padgett. She married Frank Embree on March 11, 1937 and he preceded her in death on April 12, 2009. She was a homemaker and member of the Williams Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, David Embree and wife, Jennifer, of Livonia and Duane Embree and wife, Doreen, of Bedford; fifteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Donald Embree; a daughter, Donna Mitchell; three brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter.

Barbara Ellen Newkirk, of Vallonia, entered into eternal rest at her home on the morning of October 15, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was 68 years old.
Barbara entered this life on March 19, 1952 in Bedford, Indiana. She was the fourth born to the loving parents of Oliver “Pick” and Beulah (Pipher) Chastain. On August 29, 1967 she married Johnny Gregg and from this union she was blessed with daughters, Cathy and Sherry. Johnny preceded her on September 20, 1981.
Barbara found love again when she decided to go on a blind double date with her sister and she met and later married David Newkirk on July 2, 1996 in Las Vegas, NV.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Mamaw. Barbara was a member of the Medora Methodist Church. She retired from Whitney Tool in 2015 after working there for over 25 years.
Barbara loved and cherished her family and all the travel and shopping adventures that they would go on. She was part of a group called the “Happy Travelers” with her close friends.
She leaves a legacy of love with her husband of 24 years, David Newkirk of Vallonia, daughters, Cathy McKinney and companion Steve Bloom of Medora, Sherry Traub and her husband Travis of Medora, six grandchildren, Johnny McKinney and his wife Missy of Vallonia, Josh McKinney of Medora, Lexi McKinney and her husband Blade of Uniontown, Gwyneth Morris of Medora, TJ and Trent Traub of Seymour, three great-grandchildren, Sutter McKinney of Brownstown, Brantley McKinney of Vallonia, and Emma McKinney of Vallonia, two brothers Duane Chastain of Williams, and Gary Dean Mills of Trinity, three sisters, Debra Davis and her husband Kym of Medora, Jeannette Kessinger of Bedford, and Linda Lewellen of Michigan, and one aunt Sue Beville of Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Medora Methodist Church on Monday October 19, 2020 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lennie Lawrence officiating.
Burial will be at the Zollman Cemetery of Medora.
Friends may visit at the Medora Methodist Church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Nellie Margaret (Baker) Reynolds

Mrs. Nellie Margaret (Baker) Reynolds, 100, of Columbus, passed away October 15, 2020 at Parkside Court. She was born in Mitchell, Indiana where Spring Mill State Park is located today to Chester and Louisa (Colglazier) Baker.
Family and friends may call at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford on Monday, October 19th from 11 to 1 p.m. with funeral service following at 1 p.m. with Pastor Je M. Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Nellie graduated from Bedford HS in 1938. She was active in acrobatics, performing at various schools and alumni functions, and also performed at the Congress Hotel in Chicago in 1936. Her first airplane ride was at the Mitchell airport at the age of 8. At the time she was very impressed with the smoothness of the landing and a love for flying was born.
After marrying Charles G. Reynolds in 1939 they settled down on the east side of Indianapolis and raised sons Gordon and Randy. During this time she served 28 years as a School Food Director in Warren Township schools.
Nellie obtained her private pilot’s license in 1971. At that time she flew with her husband in a Cessna 150. In 1972 she decided to study for instrument training so she could fly further and safer. She flew herself to Anchorage in her private 172 Cessna in 1975 for a worldwide national convention of the Ninety-Nines. She also flew in the Powder Puff Derby Women’s air race.
Nellie took her two granddaughters white water rafting down the Grand Canyon for nine days and twenty years later took her two grandsons to Churchill Manitoba on the Tundra to see polar bears.
Nellie moved back from Indianapolis to Bedford to care for her father in 1988. During this time she started taking art lessons. She did many oil paintings with some being hung in the Spring Mill State Park dining room.
Nellie joined a writing class at Oakland City University in Bedford and during that time wrote and published six books. Most of the books talk about her experiences in life and flying. She belonged to the Ninety-Nines (Women’s International Organization of Pilots) and was past president of the club. She was inducted into the International Forest of Friendship in Atchison, Kansas.
Nellie brightened the room wherever she went and always had a smile on her face along with a positive attitude. She commented many times what a blessed life she was graced to have lived. Her family was blessed to have such a strong, loving, and faith filled matriarch. She will forever remain in our hearts and they will continue to lead by her example.

Wendell Sherrill Moffatt, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 10:08 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2020, at Garden Villa Nursing Home in Bedford.
He was born on June 14, 1934, in Orange County, the son of Raymond and Flora Alice (Cottengain) Moffatt. He married Joann (Powell) Moffatt on March 30, 1962, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2000.
He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Williams and worked at Trav-Ler Radio and Television for over 20 years. He owned a small engine shop, was a farmer, carpenter and bus driver.
He graduated from West Baden High School in 1952. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his twin daughters, Carol Judd and Cheryl Wright of Mitchell; two brothers, Carlys and Darrell Moffatt; three sisters, Eunice Busick, Margaret McGirt and Phyllis Moffatt; three grandchildren, Andrew Judd, Clara Arnold and Joshua Cave; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and one brother, James Moffatt
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Brother Tom East officiating. Burial will follow in Bonds Chapel Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the Orleans American Legion Post No. 69.

She was born in Bedford on January 17, 1959 to Raymond D. Cain and Marguerite (Flinn) Cain. Tammy was retired from the Eye Center of Southern Indiana. Tammy married John P. Wronowicz on April 27, 2002 and he survives, Tammy loved her family, her grandchildren and the joy of laughter.
Survivors include her husband, John P. Wronowicz, her daughters, Mandy Ramey and Brittany Dabkowski, her step-children, Lori Wronowicz and Matthew Wronowicz, one sister, Cathy Gilbert, 15 grandchildren and one expecting great grandchild Novalee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Phil Cain

Raymond E. Harris, 89, of Plainfield passed away on October 14, 2020 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He was born in Bedford, IN on May 18, 1931.
He was raised in Bedford where he met his wife, Phyllis. The two were married on November 23, 1949. They were married for 70 years. Raymond preached his first sermon at the Church of Christ in Oolitic, IN in 1950. He preached every Sunday at a different congregation until he started his first full-time work in Martinsburg, IN. His preaching took them to Pekin, IN; Vincennes, IN; Spencer, IN; Peru, IN; Plainfield, IN; Florence, AL; Louisville, KY; Oolitic, IN; Bedford, IN; Bloomington, IN; Sheffield, AL; and Mooresville, IN. The Lord blessed them with four children, three sons and a daughter.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Phyllis J. Harris; their children, Sam Harris, Jerry (Eva) Harris, Loretta (Richard) Cummins; John (Tamara) Harris; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three nieces and a nephew, Jane Patrick, Regina Goldman, Toni Terrell and Paul Brown Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Dorothy Harris; his brother, John Leo Harris; and his sister, Mary Jeanette Harris Jordan.
He was a man of deep faith and passionate conviction, a veteran soldier of the Cross, who devoted his life to teaching the Bible and preaching the gospel. He was a hard worker for the Lord: 2 Corinthians 12:15 man who was “gladly spent” for the souls of others. He will be greatly missed, but we rejoice in our hope that we will see him again. He has run the race and by God’s grace has won.

Township Line Road, Plainfield, where friends may call on Friday from 2:00 pm until service time at 5:00 pm. Robert Daniel Purdy Sr., 86, of Bedford, passed away on Oct. 13, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 3, 1934, in Curdsville, Kentucky, he was the son of Patrick William and Agnes Cecelia (Kiefer) Purdy.
Robert was a graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1953. He was a machinist, foreman and project engineer for W.F. Meyers.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Eagles, Moose Lodge, Boat Club, American Legion of Bedford and the National Guard Army Reserves. Earlier in his life, he liked to ride motorcycles. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and was an avid walker.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Robert are, his lady friend of 27 years, Barbara Bump; children, Robert D. Purdy Jr., Sherri L. (Rick) Hoggatt, Tina L. Dixon and Suzanne E. (Mike Bell) Purdy, all of Bedford; brother, William Donald Purdy of Heltonville; sister, Vivian McKee of Logansport; grandchildren, Daniel (Stephanie) Purdy of Bedford, Michael (Jessica) Hoggatt of Springville, Craig (Tommi) Hoggatt of Bloomington, Brandon Wilcoxen of Bedford, Brooke (A.J.) Melissa J. Overstreet, 60, of Bedford, passed away at 3:53 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at the Golden Living Center in Bloomington.
Born April 14, 1960, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Margaret (Vanmeter) Melton. She married Douglas Overstreet on Nov. 7, 1982, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2009.
She was disabled and attended Guide Point Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Kee and husband, Michael, of Bloomington and Tina Hanners and husband, Bill, of Bedford; one son, Michael Vinson, of Bedford; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Beth Parks and husband, Ray, of Scottsburg, Donna Hill, of Michigan, and Marla Salazar, of Mitchell; three brothers, Rick Vanmeter, Butch Vanmeter and wife, Debbie, and Mike Vanmeter, all of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Melton; her father, Lloyd Melton; her husband, Douglas; a brother, Lloyd “Petey” Thomas Jr.; and a granddaughter, Madison Bickers.

Dale H. Fletcher, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 2:20 am on Monday, October 12, 2020 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born July 28, 1934, he was the son of Bertram and Eva (Burford) Fletcher. He married Patricia Corbin on August 8, 1959 and she survives. Dale was a graduate of Mitchell High School with the class of 1952. He joined the National Guard in 1952. He spent six months at Fort Knox in officer’s training and then served another ten years.
He began working at Roberts Brass in Mitchell in 1952 as a stock boy and rose to shipping supervisor. He was then employed as the plant manager for Bridgport Brass for several years. He ended his working career back at the same building, retiring as plant manager for the Dana Corporation in 2001. He was described as the best and fairest boss anyone could ask for.
He attended the Bedford Free Methodist Church. Dale loved his farm and cattle, woodworking and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family and would do anything for them.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Patty, of Bedford; children, Brenton D. Fletcher and Mark A. Fletcher and wife, Kara, all of Los Angeles, CA, Amy Voris and husband, Joe, of Bedford; grandchildren, Jakob Fletcher, Maxine Fletcher, Evan Voris, Morgan Fletcher, and Emma Voris; brothers, Tom Fletcher and wife, Nancy, and George Fletcher, all of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Ruby Fletcher-Robertson, of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Duane Fletcher and Mike Fletcher; a sister, Jeanine Spaulding.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 17th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor John Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Saturday, October 17th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Born on Sept. 24, 1936, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Luther and Josie (Younger) Brinegar. She married Raymond Johnson on Nov. 12, 1972, in Lawrence County and he survives.
Martha was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the Class of 1954. She had been employed at Jester Department Store, RCA and retired from Visteon.
She was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church and the Ladies UMW Society.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Martha are her husband, Raymond; a sister, Mary Lawson of Radcliff, Kentucky; brother, George Brinegar of Bedford; and two nieces, Linda Randolph of Bedford and Beth Ann Lawson of Florida.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Josie Brinegar; and sister-in-law, Marcia Brinegar.

Betty Jane Goss Hamilton

Betty Jane Goss Hamilton, 90, a native and resident of Medora, passed from this life on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown. She was born on Dec. 12, 1929, to the late Walter Goss and the late Bertha James Goss.
Betty was a lifelong member of Medora United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school bus driver, Sunday school teacher and board member. Betty and her beloved husband, Robert, were the caretakers of Camp Indi-Co-So in Springville for over 18 years.
She loved farming, IU basketball, driving a tractor and mowing grass. Her mower of choice was a zero turn. She was famous for her homemade ice cream and cooking. She didn’t let age slow her down, buying her first motorcycle at the age of 70.
Betty loved people and never met a stranger. She was an amazing cook and loved to cook for people with some of her favorites being ham, mashed potatoes made with three sticks of butter, baked beans and oyster soup.
Betty was well known for being a school bus driver for many years. She loved her students and they loved her. She started her day early, parking the bus and spending time in prayer for her day and for her students. She was a Godly lady with great faith. Above all that she loved in this life, nothing compared to her love for Jesus Christ. She was never shy about testifying and wanted everyone to know her God and have a relationship with him.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Bob Hamilton (Shirley) of Salem and Denny Hamilton (Lisa) of Freetown; eight grandchildren, Rob Hamilton (Dean), Seth Hamilton (Bethany), Hillary Emery (Travis), Olivia Hamilton, Ethan Hamilton, Noah Hamilton (Allie), Kaleb McKinney (Lindsey) and Kegan McKinney (Erin); and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Robert G. Hamilton; one grandson, Michael Brandon Hamilton; and two sisters, Alberta Matlock and Harriet Hall.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 pm on Wednesday at the Medora United Methodist Church. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the church with Pastor Lennie Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Goss Family Cemetery in Medora.

She was born Sept. 8, 1946, in Plainfield, to Edward and Helen Dustin Cox, and was raised in Woodland Hills, California.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joe Cox.
She was a 1965 graduate of William Howard Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California.
Joyce was a past seamstress for many local people and a cook for IU Health. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family and cat.
Survivors include her sons, Van (Crystal) Mikels of Mitchell and AJ (Courtney) Mikels of Petersburg; daughter, Amy (Bob) Davis of Bedford; brothers, Jerry Cox of New York and Jan Cox of California; sister, Jane Devlin of California; and grandchildren, Kaden, Parker, Paisley, Bailey, Payton and Riley.

Brian L. Eagans, 52, of Fishers and formerly of Mitchell, IN, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born August 28, 1968 in Bedford, he was the son of George & Edna (Pemberton) Eagans. He married Lisa Norman on June 22, 1991 and she survives.
A graduate of Mitchell High School class of 1986 and Vincennes University class of 1988, Brian was district sales manager for Lowes Home Improvement and was a former manager of the Bedford Lowes. He was a member of The Masonic Lodge F&AM 14 and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis. He was of the Christian Faith.
Surviving to cherish his memory in addition to his wife Lisa are: 3 sons, Dillon Eagans & Fiancé Cassady Blackburn, Brant Eagans and Lucas Eagans; one granddaughter, Korra Eagans; a cousin who was raised in the home with Brian, Roger Pemberton and his children, Corey Pemberton, Kyle Pemberton and Shayna Pemberton; father-in-law Alan (Linda) Norman; mother-in-law Brenda (Roger) England; brothers-in-law Travis (Kristin) Norman and Tevin (Jamie) Norman; two aunts, Viola Cummings and Helen Couch; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, George and Edna Eagans and several aunts and uncles.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 19th at 7PM at Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Tim Day officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7PM also on Monday at Ferguson-Lee.

Jarita Ann Rosenberger, 76, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born July 2, 1944, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Robert and Jean Charlotte (Braxton) Turner. She married Jon Rex Rosenberger Aug. 10, 1968.
Jarita retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center — Crane in 1997. She was the first female EMT in Lawrence County and was employed by Dunn Memorial Ambulance Service.
Jarita was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and Mitchell-Grissom Kiwanis Club. She graduated from Paoli High School in 1962. Jarita loved making Halloween costumes for her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Jon Rosenberger of Bedford; children, Erin Braxton (April) Rosenberger of Bedford and Kara Ann (Michael Rouker) Hancuff of Bloomington; grandchildren, Mariah Srygler, Norah Hancuff, Matthew Rouker, Amelia Rouker, Mary “Mati” Rosenberger and Charlotte Rosenberger; great-grandchildren, Hazel Hughes and Harrison Hughes; and sister, Cheryl Fields of Bedford.

Ralph Dale Thomas, 92, of Bedford, passed away at 7:55 am on Monday, October 12, 2020 at I.U. Health in Bedford.
Born June 4, 1928 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Ralph Walter and Jessie Mae (Williams) Thomas. He married Norma June Owens on March 25, 1955 and she survives.
He was a retired truck driver and manager for Ready Mix Concrete Co. with the Rogers Group. He graduated from Shawswick High School with the class of 1946 and was the last surviving member of his class. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on November 11, 1950, during the Korean War, where he served with the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member and elder of the Pinhook Church of Christ for several years and Gillen Post #33 American Legion. He currently attended the Oolitic Church of Christ. He enjoyed bowling in his early years and later golf. Dale was very knowledgeable of the Bible and enjoyed occasionally giving “a talk”. He loved his garden on Sunny Acres Drive. Anyone who knew Dale experienced his sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Norma, of Bedford; two daughters, Rita Kersh, of Bedford and Lisa Ramey, of Indianapolis; grandsons, Marcus Ramey, Michael Ramey, and Matthew Ramey, all of Indianapolis; sisters, Jane Turpen and husband, Don, and Nancy Fletcher and husband, Tom, all of Bedford; sister-in-law, Juanita Thomas, of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

Born November 1, 1934, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Jesse Elbert and Lillian Fay (Roberts) Pemberton. He married Hazel Marie Gilbert September 1, 1953, and she preceded him in death October 17, 2017.
James owned and operated ACE Floor Service. James was formerly a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church where he had taught Sunday school several years. He currently was attending the Bride of Christ Fellowship where he enjoyed sharing his love of Christ. James loved playing horseshoes and being with his family.

Louise Mae Allen, 96, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.
Born March 20, 1924, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Orval and Mary Ellen (Phillips) Brim. She married Ray Fredrick Allen June 2, 1940, and he preceded her in death March 23, 1976.
Louise and Ray owned and operated the Seahorse Motel in Daytona Beach, Florida, for many years. She also worked at Hoosier Uplands and was a safer aide at Burris School. She attended the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.
Louise was a loving mother and grandmother and was always taking care of kids. She loved bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, music, and plays.
Surviving are her children; Ray Fredrick Allen, Jr. of Gainesville, Florida, Judith Ann (Bob) Dabrowski on New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Rodney Lee (Rosie) Allen of Ormond Beach, Florida, Fredricka Rae Allen of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brandy Sharlotte Burggraff of Mitchell, grandchildren; Michael Allen, Jamie Allen, Julie Lucas, William Lucas, Bambi Johnson, Wendy Pourciaux, and Sonya Longmire, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sisters; Pauline Graham of Salem, Helen Adams of Terre Haute, and several nieces and nephews.

Joe David Deckard, 70, of Bedford died at 4:05 am on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born February 2, 1950 in Smithville, IN he was the son of John L. and Opal (Todd) Deckard. He was a self-employed marine mechanic, a member of the Burgoon Baptist Church, enjoyed building street rods, and was involved with several car clubs and shows.
Survivors include two sons: Joe Deckard, Jr. and his wife Rachel of Bedford, Troy Deckard and his significant other Dyan Higgins of Bloomfield; one granddaughter, Hailey Deckard; his significant other, Pat Combs of Harrodsburg; one sister, Sharon Trinkle and her husband Claude of Bloomington, several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Dorothy, Bill, Harold, Jack, Doris, Rex, Butch.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Harold Godsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, October 12th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Melvin Lee Daugherty, 79, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at his residence.
Born October 11, 1940, in Lee County, Virginia, he was the son of Samuel R. and Jeanette (Campbell) Daugherty.
Melvin joined the U. S. Army in 1963 and was in the reserves until 1969. He married Sharon Tally on April 10, 1965, and they had 55 wonderful years together. To this union was born a son, Gary Lee Daugherty.
Melvin worked for the telephone company and retired from Verizon/GTE. He loved to work with wood and could make just about anything. Melvin made and sold many dulcimers. He created beautiful oil paintings and a few of them will be on display during the visitation at the funeral home. Melvin was a member of the Syria Christian church.
In addition to his wife and son, Melvin is survived by his siblings, Jack Daugherty of Orleans, Marvin Daugherty of Paoli, Brad Daugherty of Paoli, Glenn Daugherty of Madison, Gloria Anderson of Bedford, and Nancy Reynolds of Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Geraldine Nodine.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Patrick Knowles officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Debbie Joan Asbell, 55, of Paoli, Indiana, passed away on Thursday October 8, 2020 at IU Health Bedford.
She was born September 20, 1965 in Decatur, Illinois to Gene Handy and Shirley Jones Padgett. Debbie married Timmy Joe Asbell on June 28, 1986 and he survives.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
She was a member of Paoli United Methodist Church and Paoli High School Class of 1983. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved the beach.
Debbie owned and operated Debbie’s Hair Care. She was deeply passionate with her profession and loved her clients. Debbie also taught pre-school for several years, as well as Sunday school and youth group.
Survivors include her Spouse; Timmy Joe Asbell of Paoli, Indiana, Mother; Shirley Padgett of Paoli, Indiana, Sons; Timmy Joe Jr. (Debbie) Asbell of Paoli, Indiana, Tyson Asbell (Destani Scott) of Paoli, Indiana, Daughter; Kaylee Asbell (Tim Woolley) of Orleans, Indiana, Brother; Rodney (Mary) Handy of Salt Lake City, Utah, Sister; Connie Seals of Paoli, Indiana, Grandchildren; Bella Allen, Kacie Asbell, Macon Allen, and Timmy Asbell, several nieces and nephews, and friends also survive Debbie Asbell.
Funeral services will be Tuesday October 13, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Dillman-Scott Funeral Home located at 226 W Campbell Street, Paoli, Indiana 47454. Carolyn Sue Ross, 73, of Madison, formerly of Hope, went to her eternal home on Thursday, October 8, 2020.
She was born on February 11, 1947 in Seymour, the daughter of Ervin Lloyd and Hazel (Goens) Bush. She married Joseph Edward Ross on June 5, 1965 in Columbus, Indiana.
She worked as manager of Apple Tree and deli prep at Hope Food Mart. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress and could crochet just about anything. If there was a new craft, she would try it. She also loved quilting and painting. Her life was first her faith, then her love and devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, sons, Timothy (Jamie) Ross of Madison, Jonathon (Amber) Ross of Hope and daughter, Elizabeth (Troy) Claycamp of Seymour. Grandchildren are Jake Ross, Hayden Goodchild, Stanton Ross, Josh (Breanna) Ross, Brittney (Dewey) Barrett, Joe (Kirsten Marie) Ross, Haley Wingler, Tyler (Anna) Claycamp and Levi (Josie) Claycamp. Great grandchildren are Jaxson, Ryker, Hadelyn, Brayden, Jayden, Addilyn, Grayson, Weslynn and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her siblings are Jack (Rita) Bush of Seymour and Bonita (Danny) Harper of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ervin E. “Gene” Bush of Westport and a sister, Barbara A. (Bradley) Bush of Columbus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 12, 2020 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Kenneth E. Goben, Jr., 70, of Mitchell, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at his residence.
Born April 24, 1950 in Kentucky, he was the son of Kenneth E. Goben,Sr. and Lucy (McCubbins) Goben. He married Shelley Chandler on December 19, 1992 and she survives. He was a carpenter and owner of SE Closets and was a clerk at Ben Franklin/Ace Hardware and had worked as an Animal Control Officer in Mt. Washington, KY, he worked closely with the DNR in animal rehabilitation, and he had been a member of the UAW in Louisville. He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Shelley, two sons, Jeffrey Goben of Kentucky, Kenneth Goben, III of Kentucky, three stepsons, Joe Hall and wife Nechole of Bedford, Dan Hall and wife Dawn of Norman, Dustin Gabhart of Bedford, Tabatha Gabhart of Bedford, eleven grandchildren, Levi, Luke and Mady Hall all of Martinsville, Jacob and Autumn Hall of Bedford, Gage and Gretta Gabhart of Bedford, Luke Martin and Emma York both of Norman, Sara and Derick Goben of KY; one great grandson, Elijah; five siblings, Charlotte Cooper of Kentucky, Ronnie Goben of FL, Donnie Goben of Kentucky, Sherry Wright of Kentucky and Terry Goben of Tennessee, his mule, Haley, his burrow, Eeyore, and his cat, Baby He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Jim Cooper.

Judy (Jamison) Hawkins, 77, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2020, at her residence.
Born Sept. 15, 1943, in Sterling, Illinois, she was the daughter of Ralph I. and Bernice Jamison. She married Kenneth D. Hawkins on July 25, 1957, and he survives.
Judy was the owner of Hawkins Market, Hawkins Auto Sales, Hawkins Liquors, and was a property manager for Hawkins Rental Homes and Home Sales. She attended Cornerstone Church in Bloomington and East Oolitic Community Church in Oolitic.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Judy are her husband, Kenneth D. Hawkins; son, Kenneth W. Hawkins; brother, Lynne G. Jamison; and grandchildren, Arie N. Bottorff and wife Kate, Nash Bottorff, and Joanie A. Hawkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Michelle R. Hawkins-Bottorff; sister, Joan G. Sego-Cramer; and brother, Earl I. Jamison.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Judah Cemetery with Pastor Millard Jones officiating.

Karen Sue Corbin, 66, of Heltonville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020, at I.U. Health Hospital, Bloomington.
Born Feb. 10, 1954, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Robert and Minnie (Morrison) Duncan. She married Randall “Randy” Eugene Corbin Aug. 12, 1972, and he survives.
Karen was a graduate of Heltonville High School, Class of 1972, and retired from Bedford-North Lawrence High School. She was a cashier and cook and was like a grandmother to everyone. She attended Stoney Brook Church of God.
Survivors include husband, Randy of Heltonville; two sons, Rob (Jessie) Corbin and Reed (Summer) Corbin; seven grandchildren, Samuel, Scout, Gage, Grayden, Grahm, Chase and Auggie; mother, Minnie Duncan; four brothers, Cal Duncan, Carl Duncan, Joe (Jamie) Duncan and Max (Angel) Duncan; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her father; and brother, Clinton Duncan.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Brother Kendall Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.

Becky Sue Freeman, 63, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, at IU Methodist.
Becky was born on Oct. 8, 1956.
She retired from Indiana University.
Becky loved cooking, camping and family time. Her favorite thing in the world to do was spend time with her grandson Quinton; he was her entire world! She loved her cat, Thor Baby!
Survivors include her daughter, Melissa and son-in-law, Donnie Chester of Bedford; grandson, Quinton Chester and fiancé, Olivia Rhodes, and great-granddog, Zara, all of Indianapolis; and stepchildren, Nicole Watters, Mysty Diehl, Jason Robertson, Kristy Breton and Amy Sanders.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Thelma Freeman; two brothers, Rick and Ronnie Freeman; nephew, Travis Crider; and granddaughter, Maria Diehl.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spencer First Assembly of God, 428 South Washington Street, Spencer, with the Rev. Charles Evans officiating.

Wayne Franklin Tolliver, 97, of Bedford, passed away on Oct. 5, 2020.
Born Dec. 31, 1922, he was the son of John and Lora (Miller) Tolliver. Wayne married Edith Stines on Dec. 14, 1942, and she preceded him in death.
He retired from the Maintenance Dept. of General Motors and was of the Pentecostal faith.
He enjoyed building and remodeling homes, was an avid mechanic and model airplane builder, and he was a member of the model airplane club. Wayne loved working with his hands and could fix anything.
Surviving are his children, Larry Dale (Carol) Tolliver of Harrodsburg, Dustin (Mary) Tolliver, Douglas (Susan) Tolliver and Linda Martin, all of Bedford, and Pamela (Stephen) Ritter of Norman; grandchildren, Frank Tolliver, Steve (Leeann) Tolliver, Lori (Kevin) Lawton, Carrie, Kevin (Lora) Tolliver, Matthew (Debbie) Tolliver, Derek Tolliver, Troy Tolliver, Shawn (April) Tolliver, Amanda (Shawn) Mansfield, Jason (Erin) Anderson, Brandon (Amanda) Ritter, Bradie (David) Hall, Penny (Mike) Lawton and Phillip (Whitney)Tolliver Jr.; 37 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Fred D. Herthel

Fred D. Herthel passed on Oct. 3, 2020, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1939, in Bedford, to Verner and Helen (Williams) Herthel. He was a graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1958. During this time, he excelled in football and track.
Fred was a real estate investor most of his life. He started his business endeavors by purchasing and selling Herthel Beauty & Barber Supply Co. in Bloomington, which he owned and operated for 10 years. He saved the Stone City Mall from being demolished. Thereafter, he revitalized the mall and operated it for many years, before selling it to Lowe’s. He then went on to build the Stone City Plaza in Bedford.
Fred was an avid antique car and motorcycle collector and enjoyed attending car auctions and shows. He was a member of the Cruisin’ Classic Car Club.
Fred married the love of his life, Linda (Cowden) Herthel on Dec. 22, 1974, and she survives. They served their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Fred is also survived by his daughter, Debra Woods, and son-in-law, Jack; two daughters-in-law, Debra Herthel and Laura Herthel; a stepdaughter, Angela Branam and husband, Bobby; a stepson, JD Cowden and wife, Amy; and a stepson, Wesley Cowden and his fiancée, Jana Banks. Fred is also survived by his grandchildren, Bretta Skinner, Kara Herthel, Kristen Herthel, Skylar Cowden, Caleb Cowden, and Justin Kemp and wife, Shirley. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Emma Cowden, Jayden Kemp, Katy Kemp, Francesca Orozco and Domenico Orozco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bob Herthel; two sons, Chris Herthel and Nick Herthel; and a grandson, Jacob Cowden.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life, which will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Mixing Bowl in the Stone City Plaza.

Born February 21, 1930, in Manchester, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Beulah (Wright) Brown. She married Marvin Eugene “Smokey” Shoults April 8, 1944, and he preceded her in death September 21, 2003.
She worked several years in Lawrence County and Orange County. Allie was a member of the Huron Church of God and Phi Beta Psi Sorority. She loved to read.
Surviving are her daughters; Elaine Raeburn of Escondino, California, Brenda Stalker of Orleans, Linda Terrell of Mitchell, grandchildren; Joe and Dean George of California, Terry Maestas of Phoenix, Arizona, Lori Lee of French Lick, Jason Stalker of Charleston, Illinois, Dameon Austin of Mitchell, Mary Gaw of Mitchell, Bub Terrell of Mitchell, and Travis Terrell of Mitchell; 15 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren, sister; Ruth Sorrells of Bedford, and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband; daughter, Patti Austin; and siblings, William “Bus” Brown, Donald Brown, Lucille Raines, Geneva Anderson, Verna Sanders, and infant Alcevia Brown, preceded her in death.

Nadine Terry, 78, passed away Saturday, Oct6ober 3, 2020, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born September 27, 1942, in Hazard, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Arlas and Jeanette (Knox) Napier, Sr. She married Everett C. “Pat” Terry November 19, 1983, and he preceded her in death December 19, 2001.
Nadine had been employed at the Candy Kitchen, King’s Speed Shop, and from 2001-2018 was in group sales at Spring Mill Inn. She was a 1960 graduate of Mitchell High School, a member of the First Baptist Church and attended the Mitchell Church of Christ.
Nadine was an Al-Anon leader, a member of the Silver Sneakers at Mitchell Fitness Center, and a volunteer at Lawrence County Tourism.
Surviving are her brother; Arlas Napier, Jr. of Lakeland, Florida, stepchildren; Michael Terry and fiancée, Cindy Stinson, of Springville, Patty Walls of Bedford, Angela Survance of Bedford, and several step grandchildren.
Her parents; husband; son, William Alan “Tiger” Napier; and brother, Neil Napier, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Allen Burris officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Darryl R. Callaway, 56, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020.
Born Oct. 29, 1963, in Evansville, he was the son of Lowell and Betty (Shelton) Callaway. Darryl married Dixie Mundy on March 2, 1991, and she survives.
He was a 1982 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School and the IBEW 16 Journeyman Apprenticeship. Darryl worked as an Electrician and Safety Director at General Motors.
Darryl loved spending time with his family and enjoyed riding and working on his motorcycles.
He was a member of the Restoration Church of the Nazarene; local IBEW 16 Union; and a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group.
Surviving are his wife, Dixie, of Bedford; stepson, Brandon (Nikki) Deckard; stepdaughter, Whitney (Toby) Harrison; five grandchildren, Blayne Harrison, Brylee Harrison, Griffin Deckard, Anna Deckard and Braylen Harrison; one sister, Rachel (Steve) Sheldon; three nephews, Samuel Sheldon, David (Emily) Sheldon and Noah Sheldon; and mother-in-law, Marilyn Mundy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David in infancy.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Pastor Ken Bushey officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Norma Jean Smith, 80, of Bloomington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020.
Norma was born in Terre Haute, the daughter of Venita Mae Holden Mosier and L. Wayne Mosier. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1957. Norma married Lowell F. Smith on May 8, 1963.
She was devoted to her family and made countless friendships over the years with her great sense of humor, quick wit and warm personality. She proudly served as Administrator of Westview Manor Nursing Home in Bedford for many years before retiring to do her favorite thing, spending time with family and friends.
Norma is survived by two daughters, Cindi A. Severance (Dean) of Bloomington and Toni L. Butcher (Ricky) of Bedford; and a son, Larry Smith (Maryjane) of Phoenix, Arizona. Known to her family as “Mimmy,” she was blessed with 13 grandchildren, including Jessica Mills (Jeff), Jarica Stocker (Evan), Jackie Hood (Matt), Jeremy Kopp, Callie Noble (John), Don Teague (Brittany), Morgan Hill (Kaden), Becky Weber (Bryan), Shannon Coady, Jeff Smith (Sandra), Louie Dalton (Elanor), Stevie Bridges and Shauna Isbell (Butch Medoza); 38 great-grandchildren, including Savanna Mills, Sadie Smith (Chase), Cannon Mills, Louie Stocker, Presley Stocker, Anna Fultz, Allison Fultz, Aspen Hood, Sebastian Hood, Synia Kopp, Jeremy “JD” Kopp, Jacob Noble, Emily Noble, Mara Noble, Gracelyn Teague, Tucker Teague, Jude Teague, Arrington Teague, Tatym Hill, Tynlee Hill, Holden Hill, Wyatt Weber, Willow Weber, Kristen Labus (Josh Steele), Abby Butcher, Ivy Butcher, Sarah Butcher, Cheyan Coady, Wyatt Coady, Dalton Coady, Aria Smith, Dylan Dalton (Brianna), Caleb Dalton, Chelsea Dalton, Lisa Schwartz, David Schwartz, Breanna Isbell, Brandon Mendoza; one great-great-grandchild, Brooklyn Dalton; and four nieces, Virginia Atkins (Jimmy), Elizabeth Butterfield (Rick), Barbara Mills (Gary) and Patricia Stephens (Grant).
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell F. Smith; sister, Dolores J. Allen; two daughters, Lana Lalum and Lisa Justice; and two grandchildren, TJ Mallott, and Tyler Zeisberger.

Jeanette Nikirk, 89, of Oolitic, died at 5:00 am on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Westview Nursing & Rehab Bedford.
Born August 16, 1931, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Joseph and Louisa (Mcdermed) Cassidy. She married Delvin Nikirk in 1953 and he survives. She had worked at RCA, JC Penney, Walmart, and 3.D. She was a member of Bedford Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness.
Survivors include her husband, Delvin Nikirk of Oolitc; one son, John Mark Nikirk and wife Dawn of Bedford; one daughter, Kathy Shaw and husband James of Bedford; and three grandchildren, Jared Crane, Matthew Nikirk, and Jonathan Nikirk.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bill, Ben, Carl, and James Cassidy; and four sisters, JoAnn Cassidy, Catherine Dorsett, Margaret Brown, and Virginia Ray.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 7th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Philip Lee Padgett, 66, of Orleans, passed away at 12:15 PM on September 30, 2020 at IU Health Hospital in Paoli.
He was born August 23, 1954 in Bedford, IN, the son of Daniel Lewis and Norma Jean (Tolbert) Padgett. He married Mary (Freeland) Padgett on September 21, 1985 and she preceded him in death on June, 7, 2012.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Orleans for over fifty years. He graduated from Orleans High School, class of 1972, and Indiana College of Business and Technology in 1974. He was a member of Hoosier Hill Emmaus (Past Weekend Leader), Kairos of Indiana Prison Ministry of Plainfield Men’s Correctional Facility and Heritage Trail Men’s Correctional Facility both in Plainfield, IN. Phil was active in the Orleans Community with helping with the Orleans Farmer’s Market and the TOUCH and RIOT programs thru the Orleans School System.
He is survived by one sister, Jann Harkness (Lonnie) of Orleans; four brothers, Steve Padgett (Dean) of Clermont, IN, Fred Padgett (Sandy) of Paoli; Jim Padgett (Leslie) of Orleans and D.K. Padgett (Becky) of Orleans; one sister-in-law, Sherry Padgett of Orleans and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by one step-daughter, Julie McDaniel; two grandchildren, Danielle French and Travis McDaniel and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; and one brother Jeff Padgett.
The funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with David Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans. Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00-7:00 PM.

Phyllis L. Kaiser, 68, of Orleans, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2020, at her home.
She was born Jan. 16, 1952, in Huntingburg, the daughter of Joseph D. and Mildred L. (Honeycutt) Clark. She married Joe Kaiser on June 17, 1972, and he survives.
She worked as a nurse for over 20 years at IU Health Bedford and at Fashionette in Orleans as a beautician.
She was a member of the Orleans United Methodist Church. She graduated from Orleans High School, Class of 1970.
She is survived by her husband, Joe of Orleans; three children, Jason Kaiser (Amy) of Indianapolis, Martha Aldridge (Joe) of Plainfield and Sarah Swayer (Nick) of Bedford; eight grandchildren, Allie, Tia, Mason, Carter, Mallory, Jack, Madelyn and Oliver; two siblings, Brenda Campbell of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Randy Clark (Jacquie) of Orleans; one sister-in-law, Margie Clark of West Baden Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ron Clark; and brother-in-law, Jerry Campbell.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Ames Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Ed Fisher officiating.

Darren Leon Storey, 58, of Bedford, passed away at 9:30 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Garden Villa in Bedford.
Born June 7, 1962, in Columbus, IN, he was the son of Robert William Storey and Betty (McKay) Barrett. He was a supervisor at Bloomington Arrow Consultation Services and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the North Bedford Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Nathen Storey, of Bloomington and Jeremy Storey and wife, Whitney, of Maiden, NC; four granddaughters, Delilah, Jaselyn, Jasmyn, and Willow; a sister, Brenda Dameron, of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Phil Storey.
Funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Walter Hunter officiating. Jewell I. Adams Godsey Baker, 92, of Bedford, was born July 29, 1928, the first of five children born to John H. and Lillie M. (Pemberton) Adams.
She departed this life at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation, the last of those five children. She was the beginning and she was the end, the alpha and omega.
Her name was chosen wisely by her parents. She truly was a jewel to everyone who knew her. God knew what He was doing when He wrote her name in the “Lambs Book of Life.” She has left an empty spot in the lives of her friends and family. She will be waiting with open arms to welcome everyone of them to her heavenly home when the time comes.
She was a homemaker and member of the Oolitic Baptist Church.
She married Charles Edward Baker on Oct. 9, 1960, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2011, after 51 years of marriage.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Shaun Baker and wife, Melinda, and Robbyn Hounshel and husband, Michael; a great-grandchild, Mackenzie Baker; several nieces; nephews; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings, Verla Jean Adams Winning, Julia Adams Hicks, Marcia Mae Adams Hirtz and Phillip Wayne Adams.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Noel Radvern Hubbard, 78, of Bedford died at 10:30 pm on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the Westview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born February 10, 1942 in Wayne County, IN he was the son of Aaron Lewis and Eythel Wright (Gray) Hubbard. He married Wanita Cassiday they were married for 50 years. He retired as a computer electronic engineer from NSWC Crane. Noel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had attended Bartlettsville Christian Church. He loved kayaking, boating, and stargazing.
Survivors include his wife Wanita of Bedford; one son, John Hubbard, and his wife Sheila of Bedford; one daughter, Kay Hubbard of Bedford; one granddaughter, Jessica Hubbard of Bedford; one brother Paul Hubbard of Brownstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Renee’ Hallet, one brother, Richard Hubbard, and one grandson, Gary Dean Hubbard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 5th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Perry East officiating.
