Geraldine Rice

Feb. 27, 1937 — Nov. 25, 2020

Geraldine Rice, 83, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020 at her residence.

She was born Feb. 27, 1937 in Indianapolis, to Chester Eugene and Beatrice D. (Gearles) Rice. She married Charles Davidson and he preceded her in death.

Geraldine was a lineworker for Rucker/Queens in Indianapolis and had worked at IBM and DePauw University. She was of the Pentecostal faith and loved reading and spending time with friends and family.

Surviving to cherish Geraldine’s memory are her children, Ricky Icenogle, Victor Icenogle, Doreen Bray and Stan Davidson; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Serena; and one sister, Diane.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Phil Thorne officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to assist with funeral expenses.

Tim A. Basinger

Tim A. Basinger, 69, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born April 5, 1951, in Muncie, he was the son of Eleminal E. and Virginia Mae (Hughes) Basinger.

Tim worked many years at Allen Canning Company in Alma, Arkansas, as well as Carpenter Body Works and Essex Corporation. He was an avid fisherman and treasure hunter.

Surviving are his brother, Jack Basinger of Avoca; nephews, Andrew Basinger of Judah, Brian Basinger of Orleans, Christopher Basinger of Paoli; several great nephews and nieces.

His parents preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, at Mitchell Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean Wilson

Sept. 04, 1951 — Nov. 26, 2020

Dorothy Jean Wilson, 69, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Stonebridge Health Campus.

Born September 4, 1951 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Howard and Fannie (Cleveland) Wilson. She graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1969. A great sports enthusiast, she followed the Colts, the Reds, and I.U. She held a season ticket for BNL Basketball for many years. She had worked a M. Fine & Sons and in the laundry department of Garden Villa Nursing Home. Dorothy was a very giving person who collected teddy bears and was always willing to help others. After moving to Stonebridge, she gifted part of her collection to a charitable organization. She enjoyed reading letters and thank you notes from many of the children who received her bears. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Ann Groce, of Bedford, Carol Renfrew, of Homer, Alaska, and Marjorie Wyrick, of Michigantown, IN; four nephews, Tim and Tom Wyrick, Jeff Groce, and Ben Porter; two nieces, Christina McSorley and Emily Kostelecky. She was preceded in death by her parents.

No visitation is scheduled. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 30th at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Pastor Judi Early officiating. Burial will follow. Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist Church.

Tyler B. Easterday

Dec. 24, 1971 — Nov. 25, 2020

Tyler B. Easterday, 48, of Orleans, passed away at 6:21 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2020, at University of Louisville Jewish Hospital.

He was born Dec. 24, 1971, in Bedford, the son of Danny Easterday and Jacqueline Easterday.

He worked as a farmer alongside his father for his career. He was passionate about farming and all items John Deere. He enjoyed going to tractor pulls and loved a new truck from an early age.

He had a strong outgoing personality and cared deeply for family and friends. He was a supporter and caretaker to many. He purchased many coats for children over his life and had a generous heart. He was a great storyteller and many enjoyed listening to him and sharing a good laugh.

Tyler enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Tyler will be remembered for his love of farming, John Deere and his generous personality.

He is survived by father, Danny Easterday of Orleans; mother, Jackie Easterday of Orleans; two sisters, Tiffany (Paul) and Tara (Trenton); three nieces, Ella, Brooke and Ava; and one nephew, Braden.

Graveside service was on Sunday at the Fairview Cemetery in Orleans with David Mikulsky officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Orleans Elementary School for coats/meals.

Judith Ann Frye

Nov. 29, 1946 — Nov. 25, 2020

Judith Ann Frye age 73 of Bedford passed away at 4:40 Am on November 25, 2020 at Sellersburg Healthcare.

She was born in Daviess County on November 29, 1946 to George R. Frye and Iva A. (Able) Frye. She graduated from Loogootee High School, she worked and retired from Lehigh Company in Mitchell.

Judith loved the outdoors, animals, was kind and compassionate, she loved to read her bible and was of the Christian faith, she was a member of the Mitchell American Legion Post #250 Auxiliary

Survivors include two sons, Randy Harker of Bedford and Jason Bridges of Missouri, two grandchildren, Chyeine Taylor Bridges and Cecelia Jane Harker, one great grandchild, Violet Lorraine Manion, one brother, Gary Frye of Loogootee and one sister, Janet Walton of Loogootee

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James Frye and Larry Frye and a sister, Barbara Chambers.

In keeping with Judith’s wishes cremation was chosen with no services, Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.

Jan David Spaulding

Oct. 28, 1944 — Nov. 23, 2020

Jan David Spaulding, 76, of Bedford, died at 4:44 p.m. on Monday, November 23 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born October 28, 1944, in Lawrence County, Indiana, he was the middle child of Charles Spaulding and Dorsie (Perry) Spaulding. He was a graduate of Needmore High School Class of 1962, and he attended Oakland City College. He married Martie (Medlock) Spaulding in 1987, and she survives.

Jan worked at General Motors as a tool and die maker and pastored Hilltop Pentecostal Church before starting Jan Spaulding Quality Builders. He built many luxury homes in Lawrence County but his favorite job was building the Kingdom of God.

On May 25, 1997, the Lord woke up Jan with a dream, showing him that he would pastor a church in Bedford. But He didn’t say when; He just said it would come to pass. Jan and Martie moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and became very involved with Kenneth Copeland Ministries and Eagle Mountain International Church. Those seven years were a time of preparation, and before God brought them back to Bedford to begin Stonegate Faith Center, the Copelands ordained them.

Jan preached his first message as the pastor of Stonegate Faith Center on Easter Sunday 2004. He ministered at many churches in Ecuador and had a passion for the nations. Jan’s testimony of faith—following God’s leading and walking in his calling—landed him on the TV program, “The Believer’s Voice of Victory” as well as on the cover of the BVOV Magazine. His greatest joy was sharing the Word of God, leading people to Jesus, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Martie, of Bedford; a daughter, Leah Lee and husband Bryan of Keller, Texas; a son Bryce Spaulding and wife Melissa of Fort Worth, Texas; two step-daughters Mandy Ward and husband Chris of Bedford, and Autumn Bailey and husband Kevin of Bedford; grandchildren, Rhydon Lee and wife Caroline and great granddaughter Palmer of Las Colinas, Texas; Walker Ward and Waverly Ward of Bedford; Addyson Bailey, Kole Bailey, and Kade Bailey of Bedford; and Peyton Spaulding (daughter of his late son Darren Spaulding) of Stratford, Oklahoma. He is also survived by two sisters, Gaytha and husband Donald Tanksley of Bedford, and Renae and husband Jim Ratkovich of Bedford; a sister-in-law Michelle “Missy” Adams and husband Jeff, and a brother-in-law Rob Medlock and wife Barb; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one son Darren Spaulding.

Due to COVID-19, there will not be any funeral services at this time; however, the family will host a celebration of life at a later date.

Marilyn J. (Lewis) Craig

Marilyn J. (Lewis) Craig, 87, of Bloomington, passed away on Nov. 24, 2020, at Stonecroft Health Campus.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1933, in Harrodsburg, the daughter of Ermel and Belva Kathleen (Sexson) Lewis.

Marilyn, or Stretch, as she liked to be called, married Joseph E. Devich in 1957 and he predeceased her in 1973. In 1976, she married Roy F. Craig of Owensburg. She and Roy were married almost 41 years, before his death in 2015.

Marilyn grew up in Bedford, in and around her parents’ lumber yard, Lewis Lumber Company. After graduating from Bedford High School in 1951, she attended the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis and received her RN degree in 1955. After she married Joseph E. Devich, who obtained his DDS from St. Louis University, they settled in Bloomington. Marilyn used her nurturing and caring qualities at several medical offices and hospitals in the area, as an RN. Joseph and Marilyn had four children, all living.

Marilyn also worked at RCA in Bloomington, where she met and married Roy F. Craig in 1976. They resided in Bloomington, and were of the Pentecostal faith, attending churches in Monroe and Owen Counties.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Joseph L. Devich of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mary Anne Devich of Smyrna, Georgia, and Katherine M. Devich and Theresa L. Devich, of Bloomington; her two granddaughters, Lauren K. Jones (Grant) of Newport, Oregon, and Elizabeth Terry Devich Oblak (Marko) of Seattle, Washington; her great-grandson, Forrest Lewis Jones of Newport Oregon; one sister, Cora Anne Thomas of Asheville, North Carolina; and one nephew, Winston F. Thomas of Wilson, North Carolina.

Marilyn was preceded in death by both parents; and her husbands, Joseph E. Devich and Roy F. Craig.

Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S Old State Road 37, Bloomington, has been entrusted with arrangements for Marilyn.

As she wished, there will be no services and a private burial at Dishman Cemetery in Owensburg.

Betty Lavon Edwards

Betty Lavon Edwards, 92, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020, at The Waters of Greencastle.

Born August 6, 1928, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of William Roscoe and Ruby Rebecca (Price) Baldwin.

She was a 1946 graduate of Mitchell High School. Betty married Ernest Rice Edwards February 7, 1948, and he preceded her in death September 21, 1988.

Betty retired from Trav-Ler Radio Corporation/Essex and had a realtor license. She was a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church. Betty served many years as a volunteer at Mitchell Manor, and on January 20, 2000, she was honored with the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award.

Surviving are her caregiver; Christine Edwards of Brazil, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and her sister; Patty R. Rasnic of West Lafayette.

Her parents; husband; and children, Monte D. Edwards (February 2, 2013), Martin D. Edwards (February 13, 2013), daughter, Debra A. Crane (October 16, 1999); and siblings, William Robert Baldwin, Catherine Thompson, and Donald L. Baldwin, preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28, at Mitchell Cemetery with Reverend Lewis Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Bonnie Jean Henderson, 77, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.

Born August 12, 1943, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of William and Pauline Marie (Clouse) George.

Bonnie was a nurse and had been employed 20 years at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Mitchell Nazarene Church. Bonnie enjoyed crocheting and making candles. She played trumpet in the Salvation Army Band.

Surviving are her son, Kevin (Lisa) Henderson of Mitchell; grandchildren, Cameron Henderson and Rachel Duerksen; step granddaughter, Britney Arce; great grandson, Malachi Duerksen; step great grandchildren, Asher Arce, Saeben Arce, and Liam Arce.

Her parents; sons, Terry Henderson and Darrin Henderson; and siblings, Cathy McNeely, William P. George, Harold George, Mary Rayhill, and Robert “Bud” George, preceded her in death.

Drew Ramey

Dec. 08, 1967 — Nov. 23, 2020

Drew Ramey age 52 of Bedford passed away Monday November 23, 2020 at IU Bloomington Hospital, shortly after being admitted.

He was born on December 8, 1967 in Bedford to Richard & Marilyn (McCain) Ramey. He was a 1986 graduate of BNL High School, and was a millwright with Union #1076.

He is survived by his parents, one sister, Ricki (Gerald) Lawhead (Ian, Joshua, Benjamin) of Bloomington, nieces, Meagan East (Lucas & Alexis Critchlow) & Noel Ramey of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his brother Kevin Ramey on May 23, 2020.

Drew was a big man, both in structure and heart. He loved his family & had many, many friends. Drew was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked from watching a friend’s dog to helping with a garage door. The world will miss his kind gentle soul. Prayers for our broken family as we have lost two precious sons and brothers in a few short months.

Cremation was chosen with no services planned at this time; Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.

Robert C. (Bob) Walker, 73, of Bedford, passed away at 12:20 am on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born August 30, 1947 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Dale and Almeta (Chastain) Walker. He was a graduate of Shawswick High School. He married Suzanne Flynn on February 18, 1987 and she survives.

He retired in 1997 from GM Powertrain after working for 31 ½ years. He was a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne, of Bedford; a son, Robert Dale Walker, and wife, Ginger, of Terre Haute; three daughters, Lorinda Batchelor, of Bedford, Michelle Osborne, of Garner, NC, Mindi Robinson, and husband, Daryl, of Bedford; a brother, Danny Walker, and wife, Judy, of Bedford; step-daughters, Lisha Walker, Jody Walker, Kelly Speer and husband, Wally; grandchildren, Haley Burger (Bill) and their children, Bentley and Cayson, Robert Walker (Erin and their child, Carter), Edward Trey Koch [Skyy Shipman] (and their child, Eddy), Izabella Shew, Tyler Harrison, Taylor Fleenor, Caleb Staily, Jesse Staily; and his beloved dog, Jackson. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 27th at the Oolitic Pentecostal Church with Pastor and friend Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Debra Pettyjohn, 63, of Bedford and formerly of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 with her family by her side. Born December 29, 1956 she was the daughter of Phyllis and Herbert Vantuyle.

Debra worked as a CNA at Garden Villa for many years. She finished her career at her dream job, by serving the residents of Bliss Place. She was a member of River’s Edge Fellowship Church in Bedford.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her daughter, Jeanette (Nettie) Bandell and her husband Rick of Rising Sun, MD; son, Chris Harris of Bedford; grandsons, Aaron Bandell and his wife Abigail, Jacob Bandell, and Cody Harris; Sister, Dawn Patton and her husband Kenny of Bedford; nephews Zach Patton, Sheldon Patton, Britain Patton and his wife Katie and Brogan Patton; and her mother, Phyllis Vantuyle of Bedford.

Funeral services for Debra Pettyjohn will be Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 3pm at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford. Kenneth E. Brooking, 72, of Bedford, passed away at 11:11 am on Monday, November 23, 2020 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born December 20, 1947 in Jackson Co., he was the son of Paul and Clara (Burford) Brooking. He married Sherry Moore and she survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served nine years. He retired as a machine operator at General Motors. He attended New Hope Community Church and loved his tomatoes and his dogs, Mickey and Daisy.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry, of Bedford; two sons, Jason Brooking and wife, Jodie, of Worthington, Kyle Brooking and wife, Danielle, of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Stewart, Karrick, and Leilani Brooking; a step-daughter, Elizabeth Gray and significant other, Donnie Hut; step-grandchildren, Derrick, Morgan Ann, and Kollin Gray; four brothers, Carl Brooking and wife, Phyllis, Robert Brooking and wife, Sue, Gary Brooking and wife, Suzie, and Louis Brooking and wife, Paula; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Reba (Brown) Brooking, two granddaughters, Isabelle and Olivia Brooking; siblings, Gladys Brooking, Richard Brooking, and Mary Lou Brazzel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 27th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Donnie Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 25th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Nellie Polk, 92 of Bedford, died on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.

Born March 25, 1928 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Merle and Hallie (Inman) Phillips.

She married James K. Polk and he preceded her in death.

Nellie had previously worked at Crane as a laborer.

Surviving is one son, Kenneth Polk, of Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Ashley Polk of Bedford and Shayna (Polk) Thompson of Orleans; two grandsons, Dennis Polk of Indianapolis and Kevin Polk of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews; as well as several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, James S. Polk; her parents; and her two sisters, Sarah Boone and Ellen Murphy.

Janice retired from Dicksons of Seymour and was also a homemaker. She loved spending time with her family and friends, working in her yard and gardening. She also loved listening to music, especially country, western and ole time rock and roll, and dancing.

Born on July 11, 1940, she was the daughter of Rufus and Bertha Henderson Hillenburg, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Harold Lloyd Henson and he preceded her in death in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters: Keela (Charlie) Banister of Norman and Penny (Bill) Wilson of Norman; eight grandchildren: Amy Banister, Gloria Banister, Katrina (Wes) Hoene, Brittany Henson, Melissa Holbrook, Josh (Rachel) Henson, Scott (Meghan) Ferguson and Jason (Tiffany) Ferguson; 12 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Brian Ferguson; daughter-in-law, Angie Henson; and fiancé, Bernard Cummings.

Janice was also preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Ferguson; and two sons: Dave Henson and Roger Henson.

Johnny Bill Barlow, 68, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at his residence.

Born July 16, 1952, in Mitchell, he was the son of William M. Barlow and Joanne (Dalton) Ryder. He married Brenda Joyce Harper March 2, 1970, and she preceded him in death July 30, 2014.

John was a self-employed carpenter and a hardworking man. He loved his family and had been saved at this residence.

John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Bessie C. Willis, 94, of Orleans, passed away at 11:22 PM on November 20, 2020 at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

She was born November 30, 1925 in Edmonton, KY, the daughter of James and Dona (Harris) Shoultz. She married Herman Willis on December 21, 1943 and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2006

She is survived by her two sons, Bill Willis of Seymour and Ronnie Willis (Pamela) of Orleans; one sister, Ollie Opal McKenzie; four grandchildren; one step granddaughter, twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters and two half- brothers.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Kenneth Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Wilma Johnson Webster, 97, of Bedford, passed away at 10:20 am on Friday, November 20, 2020 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born May 21, 1923, in Martin Co., she was the daughter of William McKinley and Annabelle (Chastain) Johnson. She was a homemaker and member of the Hillcrest Christian Church. She married Haskell “Doc” Webster and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1994.

Survivors include her children, Wanda Piper, Gloria Skeen, Jeana Cox, Roger Webster, Linda Miller and husband, Steve, and Iris Jo Sego and husband, Ernest; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and 9 great great-grandchildren, and countless numbers who considered her as family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Harold Eugene, and Gerald McKinley Johnson.

Born Aug. 12, 1944, in Charlestown, she was the daughter of Roland W. and Martha (Brewster) Tanksley. She married Ronald Kenneth Hughett June 28, 1963, and he preceded her in death Feb. 28, 2018.

Virginia was a store manager and a graduate of Mitchell High School.

Survivors include her children, Brian (Cathy) Hughett of Bedford, Kathy Hughett of Bedford, and Kevin Hughett of Bedford; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Patty Banks of Bedford. Born July 9, 1926 in Monroe Co., she was the daughter of Claude and Pearl (Flinn) Stafford. She married Russell H. Smith on February 7, 1942 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2008. She was a homemaker and member of the Judah Church of Christ.

Survivors include four children, Russell “Cutt” Smith and his wife, Trish, Mike Smith and his wife, Jill, Ellen Sears and husband, Paul, Rita Hawkins and her husband, Richard, all of Bedford; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi Pace, of Bedford and Linda Murphy, of Columbus.

Born May 13, 1936, in Tunnelton, she was the daughter of Homer and Lucille (Flinn) Mayden. She married Harry Fredrick “Fred” Lynch May 9, 1958, and he preceded her in death September 28, 2017.

Helen was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deaconess for many years. Helen loved going to her grandson’s sporting events, reading and crossword puzzles. She excelled in making Christmas candy and cookies. Helen graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954.

Surviving are her daughter, Susan (Lynch) Porter of Mitchell; grandson, Brett (Nicole) Porter of Paoli; brother, Hank Mayden of Marysville, Tennessee; special family, Gary and Stacy Rayhill and Gram and Ava.

Harold Bartley, 86, formerly of Bedford, died November 17, 2020 in Ocala, Florida.

Born August 7, 1934 in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Forrest Glen Bartley and Clara (Anderson). Harold graduated from Bedford High School in 1952. He married Sandra Crafton at the Church of God in Bedford on June 10, 1956. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from April 1957 to April 1959 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959 to 1961. He worked as a printer for the Bedford Times Mail for 45 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra, of Bedford and Ocala; one daughter, Debra Strahl of Ocala; one son, Michael (Joyce) Bartley of Lizton; two granddaughters, Allison (Tim) England of Mitchell and Micaela Bartley of Lizton; one grandson, Tyler Strahl (Sophie) of Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janet Sue Bartley; one brother, Charles Bartley of Bedford.

Betty June Allen, 95, of Bloomington passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at her residence. She was born on March 27, 1925 in Sullivan, Indiana; the daughter of Dorwin and Myrthel (Linsey) James.

Betty worked for RCA before moving to Anderson, Indiana and continuing her career with Delco Remy, as a machine operator, until her retirement following 28 years of service. Betty married Lester F. Allen on April 4, 1953, and they shared 67 years of marriage together. She attended Olivet Nazarene University. Betty was member for 70 years of the First Nazarene Church. She enjoyed reading and sewing.

Betty is survived by her husband, Lester F. Allen; and cousins, Brenda Whitley, Dennis Linsey, Brian Linsey, and Tom Deckard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Patty Rose James.

John William Dowling

John William Dowling passed away on November, 19th, 2020 from a brief battle with cancer. He spent his final days in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loved ones. John was born in Bedford, In. on May 4, 1945 to parents Arlie and Elsie Dowling.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan Duncan Dowling. He is also survived by his children Doug (Sandra) Dowling, Chris (Angela) Dowling, Melissa (Stacy) Brown, Tabitha Gabhart and Dustin Gabhart, his sister, Myrtle Turner, his brothers-in-law Harry Scott (Dee) Duncan and Stephen Duncan, his sister-in-law, Lori Ellett and several nieces and nephews.

John was proceeded in death by his parents, his Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Charles and Anne Ragsdale and his brother, Carl “Sparky” Dowling.

John Dowling was the true definition of an outdoorsman, often being told he should have lived during the pioneer days. He loved the outdoors and he loved to hunt, especially squirrel! John was also an avid fisherman, his fishing trips would always involve some combination of his wife, kids or grandkids. He may have spent more time baiting hooks than actually fishing. John was known for being a great helper and a giver, always thinking of others. He also liked to see people smile, if you happened to see him out in town or at church, he’d often extend out a closed hand and drop a piece of hard candy into your hand. He had a heart of gold and was always ready to help someone in need.

One of John’s greatest joys was his grandkids, Emma (Jason) Collingsworth, Jerrica (David) Dowling-Spencer, Derek (Ashley) Dowling, Evan (Jamie) Sipes, Tyler (Courtney) Dowling, Gage Gabhart, Lillianne Holmes, Brooklyn Brown, Ashleigh White, Niki Ashcraft, Greta Gabhart and his great grandkids, Maddie, Alicesan, Waylon, Ember, Millie, Ryan William, Remington and Koltan. Most conversations with him involved a story about one of his kids, grandkids or great grandkids. He was so proud of his family.

John was also known as a hard worker. He worked many years as a machinist with Regal Beloit in Mitchell. When Regal closed it doors, he started with Visteon in Bedford. When the Bedford Visteon closed he finished his career path with retirement from Baxter Pharmaceutical.

John will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His knowledge and creative thinking has touched so many lives. Thankfully he always took the time to teach his loved ones the lessons he, himself, had learned, thus preparing them for his departure. To know Him, was to love him. He truly never knew a stranger. John struck up conversations with everyone he met, always ending with “You have a good day!” Just imagine the conversations he’s now having in Heaven!

Ilene Christensen, 69, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at her residence. Born November 25, 1950 in Iroquois County, Illinois, she was the daughter of Edward and Anna L. (Walton) Tuggle.

Ilene married Paul Christensen on July 5, 1968 and he survives.

Ilene was a high school graduate, homemaker and previously worked at Walmart and Westview Manor. She was a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple and the AARP. Ilene loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Paul; five children, Doug Christensen, Debbie Feathers, Paul C. Christensen II, Curtis (Gina) Christensen, and Kathy (Lauro) Obregon; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Schroeder; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patricia Ann St. Onge, 82, of Oolitic, passed from this life on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, at IU Health Morgan Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Bedford, on June 26, 1938, to the late Samuel C. Spinks and Anna Belle (Adamson) Spinks.

She graduated from Bedford High School and attended college in Indianapolis. She worked for IU Health Bedford for over 33 years as a supervisor in the medical records department.

Patricia was an avid sports fan. A true Hoosier, she was an Indianapolis Colts fan, an Indiana Pacers fan, and loved all Indiana University sports.

Her family will forever remember her loving and supportive nature.

She leaves behind her family including her daughter, Kimberly (husband, Mark) Johnson of Orleans; son, Jon “J.T.” (wife, Michelle) Hall of Yorktown; brother, Gary (wife, Vicky) Spinks of Bedford; sister, Terri (husband, Steve) Wever of Bedford; grandchildren, Courtney Spinks of Bloomington, Ashley Medlock Bilyeu (husband, Levi) Bilyeu of Stafford, Virginia, and Cody (wife, Jamie) Medlock of Gulf Breeze, Florida; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will gather for a private graveside service at Fayetteville Community Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.

Robert Joe Fish, Jr.

1954 — 2020

Robert Joe Fish, Jr., was one of a kind and everyone knew it but him.

Born and raised in Bedford, Indiana, Bob was the son of Joe and Imogene. He had one sister Janie Westerfield, and two brothers, Rennie and Jason Fish. Mary was the love of his life and they spent 47 years in marriage. In the beginning of that time they had one daughter Amanda May and she is married to Chris May. They have two children Sydney and Carter.

Bob was the hardest working man and loyal to a fault. He dedicated 38 years to Miller Pipeline Corporation. You could always count on him to be honest, even when it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Bob taught everyone that he came into contact with what it meant to work for everything God gave you, and don’t expect handouts.

After high school he joined the National Guard, and was a member of the Masonic Temple. In the 80’s Bob enjoyed coaching at the Boy’s Club. He was a lifelong member at Mount Pleasant Christian Church.

In the end he was very fond of all the nursing staff at IU Health Bedford, and especially the oncology unit. The family insists in lieu of any type of gift or flowers, please make a donation in Bob’s memory to the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services at: 219 Sycamore Drive, Bedford.

Jack D. Reynolds, 88, of Leesburg, Florida passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2020.

Born in Bedford, he was a winter resident of Florida since 1988, moving permanently in 2007 from Bedford.

He was a Korean Veteran serving in the US Army where he received 2 purple hearts. Upon leaving the Army, he worked as a naval engineer traveling the world for the US Navy.

Jack was a member of LifePointe Church, Eustis, Florida, Masonic Lodge No.14 of Bedford. He was a Shriner and was a member of the Korea Veterans Group.

Jack and his late wife, Marge, were happy Christian folks and loved everyone. They loved to sing. Together, they sang in a quartet in Indiana and sang together at many churches in Florida. After they both retired, they worked for Carpenter for Christ, traveling around helping build churches.

Jack is survived by his son, Jeff Reynolds, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; daughter, Jan (Brad) Glessner, Leesburg, Florida; sister, Nancy Covey, Bedford; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Harwood, Greenwood, Bailey (Christine) Glessner, Orlando, Florida, and Dalton Glessner, Leesburg, Florida; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Corbin Harwood, Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marge.

Services will be held at Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, Eustis, Florida at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will follow at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.

Sherrie Lou Egan, 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at her home.

Born Sept. 28, 1958, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Robert H. and Janice Kay (Meadows) King. She married Timothy R. Egan Aug. 9, 1986, and he preceded her in death April 8, 2013.

Sherrie had been employed at Big Blue and retired from Orscheln Farm and Home. After retirement, she managed Elm Park Apartments. Sherrie attended New Hope Christian Church.

Sherrie loved spending time with her grandbabies and family was her everything. She made the most of family gatherings. Sherrie was very caring, always helping others, and enjoyed going to the casino.

Survivors include her daughter, Kayla (Brandon) Hall of Mitchell; granddaughters, Gracelyn and Ellie; brother, Robert Earl (Gretchen) King of Mitchell; nephews, Tony Lawyer of Bedford, Michael Lawyer of Indianapolis and Abe King of Mitchell; niece, Loreli King of Mitchell; aunt, Debbie Meadows of Bedford; and several cousins.

Jay D. Combs, 59, of Springville, died on Monday, November 16, 2020 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born on June 29, 1961, he was the son of Dale Combs and Patti (Crawford) Combs Mapes. He married Vicki Lintz in April of 2014 and she survives.

Jay was a graduate of Bedford-North Lawrence High School with the class of 1979. He was employed by the North Lawrence Community Schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jay had a variety of exotic animals that he raised and would take to parades, following in the footsteps of his dad, Dale.

Evelyne Waggoner age 96, of Loogootee, formally of Shoals, passed November 17, 2020 at the Loogootee Healthcare and Rehab.

She was born July 7, 1924 in Trinity Springs. She married Hubert Waggoner and he preceded her in death in December 1942. She then married Harvey Waggoner and he preceded her in death in December 2005.

Evelyne was a graduate of Trinity Springs High School, retired from Crane in 1974, was a maid at the Overlook Cabins and worked in several local restaurants. She attended the Dover Hill Methodist Church.

She is survived by four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great niece. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert; husband Harvey; and one son, Paul Waggoner.

The family has chosen a private burial in the Trinity Springs Cemetery.

The Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Donald E. Smith, 76, of Heltonville, passed away at 3:53 am on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Stonebridge Health Campus.

Born April 12, 1944 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Delbert and Zalaya (Kinser) Smith. He had been employed at Sarkes-Tarzian and Mickey Kinser’s Sawmill. He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Rezvani, of Bedford and Christy Smith, of Tennessee; a granddaughter, Tiffany Greely, of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Gavin Pierce and Logan Pierce; a great grandson, Jackson Greely; a great granddaughter, Ember Pierce three sisters, Patty Eads and husband, Ralph, of Heltonville, Susan Sowders, and Trish Smith and husband, Cutty, all of Bedford; a brother, Kevin Smith, of Heltonville; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Fred, Pete, and Steven Smith and three sisters, Bonnie Sykes, Gloria and Linda Smith.

Bobby Lee Harrell, 90, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at White River Lodge, Bedford.

Born Nov. 2, 1930, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Lin and Beachie (Wright) Harrell. Bobby married Adah Rhea Craig on Oct. 11, 1953, in Reseda, California, and she survives.

Bobby was a graduate of Shawswick High School; was self-employed mason for many years and retired U.A.W. member from General Motors, where he also worked as a mason; a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War; and a lifetime member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Adah Rhea Harrell, of Bedford; one son, Darren Harrell and wife, Anita, of Bedford; three daughters, Rhonda Folmer and husband, Bill, of Bedford, Renee Weiss and husband, Dan, of Bedford, and Raegan Atchison and husband, Travis, of Bedford; eight grandchildren, William Folmer, Nathan, Ethan and Brandon Harrell, and Keaton, Alayna, Kylee and Spencer Atchison; two great-granddaughters, Jamey and Molly Folmer; nieces and nephews, Denny Harrell, Pammy Terrell, Ann Grunel, Kathy Elliott, Laurie Doane, Steve Harrell, Judy Umphress, Rich and Jeff Imhoff, and Scott and John Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Virnard, Charles, Gene, Lawrence and Victor Harrell; two sisters, Joann Imhoff and Rhea Dawn Thomas and husband, Harry Lee and their son Todd Thomas; niece, Vicky Harrell; and nephew, Dave Cummings.

Menlo G. Cottengaim

Menlo G. Cottengaim, 85, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born June 28, 1935, in Orange County, he was the son of Jasper and Agnew (Bex) Cottengaim. He first married Dorothy Atchison; his second wife was Golden Ball and she preceded him in death. His third marriage was to Irene (Davies) Atchison.

Menlo had been employed at Carpenter Body Works, Roberts Brass, and ABB-Bloomington and retired with 20 years of service. He then went to work at Mills Market and when that store closed, he worked at the Jay-C Store until he retired November 3, 2011.

Menlo was a volunteer at Mitchell Manor, played many characters over the years and brought laughter to the residents. He was Grandpa Jones, an old woman on Halloween, and Sam Craig brought him to Mitchell Manor as Barney Fife and he started writing citations. The residents loved it. He was a clown on several occasions. He most enjoyed playing Elvis Presley every May on National Nursing Home Week. He dressed and sang the part with Bruce Borders and Travis Atchison. He and Elvis were the same age and in the Army at the same time.

Menlo worked at Spring Mill Inn under six different managers. He worked there as a young boy and stayed in the dorm. He was a bell boy and knew every room in the inn. He also checked visitors in and out. In later years he was also a dishwasher and cleaned the kitchen and dining room late at night. Menlo had a lot of stories about Spring Mill. He would drive some of the guests to French Lick for some gas and they generally bought him a meal at the big hotel. Then when he brought them back they would give him a $20 dollar bill for a tip. He really enjoyed his jobs at the inn. Sometimes they would take off and let Menlo handle it all. He was very good and talented.

Menlo was a member, deacon and trustee at Bryantsville Church of Christ, and a graduate of Mitchell High School in 1955. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Irene Cottengaim of Mitchell; children, Michael Cottengaim of Bedford, Diane Clem of Bedford; stepchildren, Kenneth (Debra) Atchison, Linda (Troy) Axsom; grandchildren, Doug Clem and Megan R. Owen; step grandchildren, Tyler (Brooklyn) Morrow, Tina (Zach) West, Leo Monte, and Leland Creed Morrow; great grandchildren, Kendra Ann Carter, and Chase Daughn; step great granddaughter, Elaina Kandice Morrow; brother, Ermel Dean (Annette) Cottengaim; sister-in-law, Sandy Cottengaim.

His parents; second wife, Golden; and siblings, Glen Cottengaim, David Cottengaim, Donald Cottengaim, and Flossie Dryer, preceded him in death.

Graveside service was held Friday, November 13, at Mitchell Cemetery with Brother Jim Russell officiating. Military honors were accorded by American Legion Post No.250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Mary Lou Stables, 82, of Bedford, died at her residence on Friday, November 13, 2020.

Born July 31, 1938, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Herbert and Helen Wadman. She married William Stables and he preceded her in death. She was a QMA, and retired from the State Hospital in New Castle, IN. She had attended Bethel Church in Greene County.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Webster and husband Danny of Bedford; two granddaughters, Mandy Wever and husband Josh of Bedford, and Sara Goodman and husband Jim of Mitchell; nine great-grandchildern, Joslyn, Kane, and Ashlyn Wever; Carlye Goodman and her companion Alan Tarver, Carmyn Goodman, Carson Goodman and his companion Lana Barlow, Carrigan Goodman, Carha Goodman, and Malakai Goodman; four great great-grandchildren, Adrian, Aaron, and Theo Tarver, and Sophia Roach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, two brothers, and one great-granddaughter, Halli Ann Wever.

Born December 9, 1932, in Monroe Co., she was the daughter of Byral and Berlie (Fleetwood) East. She married Richard Blake on December 13, 1952 and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2005. She was a group leader at RCA for over 40 years. She was a member of the Guthrie Christian Church and previously a member of the Hunter’s Creek Pentecostal Church and Smithville Christian Church.

Shirley Ann (Isom) Johnson, 94, formerly of Mitchell, passed away peacefully on Nov. 11, 2020, in West Lafayette.

Shirley was born to Gay and Mabel (Saffel) Isom on Dec.15, 1925, in Mitchell. Her twin brother Frederick Isom died at birth.

Shirley graduated from Mitchell High School in 1944. She married LaRue Norman Johnson of Leipsic on Dec. 26, 1951. He preceded her in death in November 2015.

They had two children Norma (Bill) Fielding of West Lafayette and Mark (Bonnie) Johnson of Columbia, Missouri; two grandchildren, Rebecca Fielding of Nairobi, Kenya, and James Johnson of Columbia, Missouri.

Shirley was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Mitchell and attended Carter’s Creek Christian Church of Campbellsburg for many years. Shirley was an active member of Spice Valley Home Economics Club and enjoyed various Bible study groups in Mitchell over the years.

LaRue and Shirley moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, after their marriage before returning to Shirley’s family farm in Mitchell for many years. Shirley moved to West Lafayette, Indiana, in 2010 and was blessed to be well cared for by the staff of Cumberland Pointe Health Campus.

The family plans to hold a private graveside service.

Sherrie Lou Egan, 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at her home.

Born September 28, 1958, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Robert H. and Janice Kay (Meadows) King. She married Timothy R. Egan August 9, 1986, and he preceded her in death April 8, 2013.

Sherrie had been employed at Big Blue and retired from Orscheln Farm and Home. After retirement, she managed Elm Park Apartments. Sherrie attended New Hope Christian Church.

Sherrie loved spending time with her grandbabies and family was her everything. She made the most of family gatherings. Sherrie was very caring, always helping others, and enjoyed going to the casino.

Surviving are her daughter; Kayla (Brandon) Hall of Mitchell, granddaughters; Gracelyn and Ellie, brother; Robert Earl (Gretchen) King of Mitchell, nephews; Tony Lawyer of Bedford, Michael Lawyer of Indianapolis, Abe King of Mitchell, niece; Loreli King of Mitchell, aunt; Debbie Meadows of Bedford, and several cousins.

Betty Jean (Hawkins) Fields

Betty Jean (Hawkins) Fields, 82 of Loogootee, died at 1:57 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, in New Albany, due to complications from COVID-19.

She was born July 16, 1938, in Needmore, Lawrence County, to Kingery Forest Hawkins and Jacqueline “Jackie” Rebecca Skirvin. She was a 1955 graduate of Loogootee High School and attended Vincennes University.

Married for 65 years, she wed the Rev. Carl Edward Fields in Loogootee, on June 19, 1955. A devout Christian woman, Betty prayed for others daily, speaking life into all she met, offering encouragement, and always ready to testify of God’s grace. God and family were the two most important things in her life. She prayed for each of her children and grandchildren by name every day of her Christian life.

Betty supported Carl’s Nazarene and Wesleyan church ministries in Franklin, Brownsburg, Epsom, Poplar Grove and Newberry Indiana, and Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia

In addition to the traditional job duties of a pastor’s wife including teaching Sunday School and supporting many missionary ministries, Betty worked at Indiana University, NSWC Crane, NAPEC Crane, NAVSEA-Washington, D.C., SAIC and several federal government defense contractors. Betty’s distinguished career with the Department of Defense included working over 20 years at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., as a high-level civilian program manager in charge of multiple National Defense Ammunition Budgets for the Army and the Navy. Reporting directly to several Admirals of the Navy, she received a Presidential Civilian Act Award in 2003 in addition to Financial Management and Business Processes achievement awards too numerous to list during her 40 year career in the Federal Government and Department of Defense.

In recent years, she loved playing euchre with family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren, and spending time with her beloved dog Minnie. She also started a tax accounting firm, BJ’s Accounting, after her retirement from the federal government. Betty also co-owned a gun and clock business in Loogootee with her husband Carl, Design’s N Time.

Survivors include children, Forrest Edward “Butch” Fields (Cherryl) of Washington, Russell Wayne Fields (Teressa) of Bedford, Daniel Job Fields (Courtney) of Montgomery and Angella Marie Dougherty (Doug) of Washington; grandchildren, Shane Fields, Brandon Fields, Audra Miller (Scott), Derek Fields (Malynda), Olivia Fields, Matthew Fields (Alicia), Drew Fields, Aleah Fields, Shayla Fields, Marilyn Stevens (Chris), Bryan Miller and Joseph Miller (Ashley); step-grandchildren, Christian Smith, Gracian Smith, Alyson Dougherty and Derek Dougherty; 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and siblings, Nancy Willhite of Indianapolis, Ann Kelsay (Jack) of Indianapolis, and Phyllis France (Mark) of Indianapolis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Mary Featherston, and great-grandchild, Haven Stevens.

Max Ramey, 82, passed away peacefully at Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, at 5:36 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2020, surrounded by members of his loving family.

Born July 5, 1938, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Glenmore Oliver and Helen Maxine (Mayden) Ramey. He married Molly Elizabeth Mannix September 13, 1965, and she preceded him in death October 19, 2008.

A schoolteacher and coach for almost 40 years, he retired from North Lawrence Community Schools in 2010.

Surviving are his sons; Richard Scott (Linda) Ramey of Clermont, Florida, Kent Emerson Ramey of Mitchell, Kurt Thomas (Marci) Ramey of Bedford, daughter; Susan Ramey Johnson of Mitchell, granddaughter; Chloe Grace Ramey

His parents; wife; and son, Donovan Glen Ramey; and brother, Donovan G. Ramey, preceded him in death.

William (Bill) Stricker

William (Bill) Stricker age 84 of Mitchell passed away on Monday November 9, 2020 peacefully at his residence. Bill was born August 12, 1936 in Fresno, California. He was the son of Lester and Jessie (Munson) Stricker. He married Charlene Kay Jones on July 15, 1973.

Bill served 20 years in the US Air Force, he was a member at large of the American Legion, a lifetime member of NCOA, and President of the Travis County, Texas Foster Parents Association for many years. Bill and his wife Charlene, hosted over 70 foster children during their marriage. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he was employed at Chapman University for ten years as an administrator and as an Adjunct Professor of Education. Bill also served 14 years in the public-school sector. He was an avid bowler and animal lover.

Survivors include his wife Charlene Kay Stricker, and children, Daughters, Rebecca Jane Stricker Winters (Robert Winters)of Visalia, California, Charie Kay Stricker Glenn (Mike Wise) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Lisa Marie Stricker Acton (Terry Anderson II) of Freetown, Indiana, Sons, Billy Gene, Bobby Dean, Stepsons, Michael Butler and Patrick Butler, Grandchildren, Joshua (Alyssa) Winters, Daniel Butler, Dakota Winters, Christina Butler, Austin Acton, Garrett Acton, Meredith Glenn and Lincoln Winters, two great grandchildren, Von and Lena Winters, and his beloved fur babies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Jean Vinson and Leslie Cooper

Mark Findley, 69 of Franklin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 10, 2020.

He was born on January 21, 1951 to Norman and Martha Ann (Park) Findley in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mark is survived by son, Marcus Findley of Olathe, Kansas; son, Kyle Findley (Jessica) of Fishers, Indiana; grandsons, Sheridan, Nicholas and Jackson; brothers, David (Susana) of Chicago, Illinois, Andy of Bargersville, Indiana and Bruce (Brook) of Bargersville, Indiana; eight nieces and nephews; his ex-wife Sharon (Risch) Findley Nolting and his loving companion Carolynn (Gregory) Friddle. He is preceded in passing by his parents and his grandson, Morgan.

Mark was raised on a grain farm in Bargersville where he developed his strong work ethic. This work ethic propelled him to letter in track, basketball and football at Franklin Community High School. Mark graduated high school in 1969 and went on to play Division I Football at Indiana University in Bloomington. Mark was a Phi Gamma Delta while enrolled at IU. He earned a varsity letter for his football and had the honor to participate in the Hula Bowl. He graduated in 1973 earning a Bachelor’s Degree from IU followed by a post-graduate degree in Physical Therapy from IUPUI.

Mark’s physical therapy work took him throughout Southern Indiana, primarily in Bedford where he lived with his family for many years. He eventually retired in Crossville, Tennessee.

Mark was a member of the Sons of the American Legion at the Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.

Mark loved the outdoors, watching sports and working out. He was especially well-known for his sports accolades in both high school and college. He was very proud to be a great Physical Therapist, helping many people through rough patches in their life. Mark was known to have a great sense of humor, in a sarcastic way that only he could pull off. He had a smile that could make anyone smile even on the darkest of days. In high school and college he had the nicknames of “Flash” and “Puber”. As “Flash”, he said he could turn out the lights and be in bed before the room got dark.

Mark could make a meal out of baked beans and swore that they cured “night blindness”! His favorite pastime was sitting on the back of the truck and watching the birds and squirrels with a beer in hand. He never met a “cold beer” that didn’t improve the moment.

Undoubtedly, one of his biggest passions was traveling. He loved to go, see and experience locations and cultures all around the world. He took his sons all over with him on his trips and there are many entertaining stories that can be told of his trips.

He loved to watch his sons and grandsons in sporting events and made it a point to make it to as many of their events as he could.

Mark was a strong and courageous individual which was even more evident in the last few years. He was so loved and will be missed by many.

A celebratory gathering will take place on Saturday, November 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Due to COVID-19 mandates, facial coverings or mask are required for those attending. All are invited to continue a celebration at Noon on Saturday at The Willard in Franklin to watch and cheer on the IU Football Team in memory of Mark’s life.

Delores “Dode” Kresser, 91, died on November 7, 2020.

Dode was born on June 7, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of Anthony and Norma Ellis. She married Robert Kresser in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 2012.

She was dedicated to raising her family and was fond of solving all types of puzzles and playing (and winning) yahtzee and other board games.

Dode leaves behind her sons David Kresser (Janet) of Atlanta, Georgia and Todd Kresser (Katie) of Seattle, Washington, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Cory, Hannah, Robert, Ellis and Susana.

Dode was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Kresser, son Robert Kresser and daughter Susan James.

A private graveside service was held at Cresthaven Memory Gardens on November 10, 2020.

Franklin Evan “Frank” Carson

July 05, 1940 — Nov. 08, 2020

Franklin Evan “Frank” Carson, age 80, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, surrounded by his family at his home.

Frank was born at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis on July 5, 1940, as the fifth child to John M. Carson Sr. and Dora Ellsie Belle (Miller) Carson. He attended Elementary School at IPS 35 and was a 1958 graduate of Manual High School, a graduate of Butler University in 1962, and a proud veteran of the US Army. On, April 11, 1964, he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Carnine, who preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 2017.

Frank worked as an insurance salesman for Farm Bureau Insurance for 40-plus years and became a Governor for the company. He was a Mason and a member of the Elks Lodge in Bedford, where the Carsons moved in 1985 for Frank to preside over the southern part of state for Farm Bureau. He continued working as an insurance salesman even after moving back to the Southside of Indy until he was 77.

Survivors include his children, Blair E. Carson (Melanie) of Indianapolis, Felicia L. Chambers (Gary) of Indianapolis and Rachelle P. Gardner (Scott) of Indianapolis; one sister, Jane A. Ferguson (Paul) of Franklin; and six grandchildren, Tyler W. Chambers (Elizabeth), Rebecca R. Gardner, Brandon E. Carson, Ian M. Chambers, Lilly A. Carson and Kaythryn J. Gardner.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann; and three siblings, John M. Carson Jr., Molly Duning and Robert Carson.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at One Christian Church, Southport. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Opal Eugene Brassine, 87, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Bliss Place in Bedford.

Born August 9, 1933, in Burn City, IN, he was the son of David and Violet (Fortner) Brassine. He married Beverly Sue Fender on July 2, 1955 and she preceded him in death. He was a graduate of the Oolitic High School with the class of 1953. He retired as an engineer for United Technology (Otis Elevator) in 1994. He was a member of the Pinhook Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Brassine, of Bedford and Steve Brassine and wife, Diane, of Seymour, IN; a daughter, Karen (Brassine) Shaw, of Bedford; two sisters, Pearl Rains and Ann Wilson, both of Bedford; three grandchildren, Kylie (Shaw) Kramer and husband, Paul, of Villa Grove, IL, Whitney (Shaw) Reed and husband, Mitch, of Mitchell, and Daygan Brassine, of Seymour, IN; two great grandchildren, Violet Reed and Tobias Kramer.

Born November 18, 1951 in Bedford, he was the son of William R. and Marjorie V. (Wilhoite) Melvin. He married Debra Prince on April 11, 1975 and she survives. He retired from Cook, Inc. working in the packaging department. David loved to travel, visiting forty-four states in his lifetime.

Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Debbie, of Bedford; a daughter, Hillary Hedge and husband, Mark; granddaughters, Jaidyn Muholland and Baileigh Hedge; a nephew, Bryan Melvin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronnie Melvin.

Lori graduated from Owen Valley High School. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Bloomington area. Lori loved going to the beach, fishing, bead crafting and spending time with her dog Doobie.

Rory Trent Bough, 58, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born April 18, 1962, in Bedford, he was the son of Hubert Bough and Ronda (Holtsclaw) Dixon.

Trent was a graduate of Mitchell High School class of 1980; attended Indiana State University, Anderson University and finished up his nursing degree at Ivy Tech; and he worked as a Registered Nurse for the Veteran’s Administration at Bloomington CBOC.

Trent attended Donica Church of God and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving with the Combat Engineers. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Trent was an avid fisherman, loved nature, mushroom hunting, being out on the lake, and spending time with his dogs.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his mother and step-father, Ronda and Jack Dixon; siblings, Brad Bough, Aaron “JJ” Bough, and Korina Dusard; nephew, Hank Dusard; niece, Josie Bough; great-niece and great-nephew, Penelope and Oliver; uncles, John (Darlene) Bough and Roland (Trudy) Holtsclaw; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Bough; and brother-in-law, Tom Dusard.

Scott Gerkin

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Scott Gerkin on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, at the age of 62 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Sharon; children, Sarah (Eric) and Samantha (Andrew); grandson, Greyson Hsu; sisters, Sherry (Andy) Theine and Jean Gerkin; mother, Wanda Gerkin; and 12 nieces and nephews. Scott will also be greatly missed by his friends and family in the racing community.

He was predeceased by his son, Seth; and father, William Lawrence Gerkin.

Scott was born in Mitchell on Jan. 17, 1958. At a young age Scott not only fell in love with his lovely wife, Sharon, he also fell in love with racing. He found his way to the Kinser Family with sprint car racing and spent many years there as a crew chief and engine builder. Scott was able to travel the country doing what he loved for the last 30-plus years.

Scott enjoyed spending his free time with his family, especially his grandson, Greyson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Born March 31, 1945 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Fred O. and Lucille (Davis) Canada. She married David King on September 16, 1966 and he survives. She was a homemaker and member of T.O.P.S and the New Union Christian Church.

Margaret “Lynnette” Brown, 66, of Richmond formerly of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Born April 13, 1954 to Creed and Betty (Wood) Speck, she married Tom Brown on December 30, 2000; he survives.

Lynnette was a graduate of Mitchell High School and was a homemaker. She was of Christian faith, Lynnette and Tom loved traveling to Tennessee and showing their Saleen Mustang at various car shows especially at the Lawrence County Patient Services annual car show while seeing family and friends.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Lynnette are husband, Tom Brown of Richmond, IN; two daughters, Melonie Bultman of Bloomington and Brandi (Lucas) Gladson of Bedford; two sons, Jason (Ann) Brown and Joe Brown both of La Porte, IN; mother Betty Speck of Mitchell; grandchildren, Jayci Howe, Jordyn Gladson, Danielle Baker, Nathaniel Baker, Mackenzie Brown, Jacob Brown, Nicholas Brown; two brothers, Paxton (Melissa) Speck and Mark Jones.

Lynnette was preceded in death by her father, Creed Speck; and brother, Jackie Speck.

Charles Leon Hopper, 79, Orleans, died Nov. 5, 2020 at Bloomington IU Hospital of Bloomington, IN.

Born December 14, 1940 in Orange County, He was the son of Charles Ray and M. Lois Gray Hopper. He was a retired farmer, hustler, former cattle rustler, rebel and an old school mountain man that lived a simple life that few would envy as he didn’t care much for “all those fancy gadgets”. He always had an entertaining story to tell, a joke to brighten a day, a quarter for a child, an opinion on any topic and a pound of sausage for sale.

Survivors include one daughter, Callie L. Coulter (Roger Hurt) of Orleans; two sons, John W. Hopper (Natasha) of Paoli; William C. Hopper (Orleans); 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both parents.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery in Orleans with Reverend Michael Williams officiating.

Born June 17, 1927 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Edward and Clotha (Kinser) Kinser. She married Glenn Deckard on July 5, 1944 and he preceded her in death on September 12, 2005. She had worked at Sarkes-Tarzian and at the Bedford Medical Center. She attended the Healing Waters Pentecostal Church in Bloomington.

Halfdan E. Pedersen, Jr., 87, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020. Born April 7, 1933 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was the son of Halfdan and Geneva (Mander) Pedersen, Sr.

Halfdan (Haldie) enjoyed 57 years of marriage with Mary Elizabeth Gottsche who survives along with their three children: Elizabeth Swinney of Richmond, Indiana, Andrew (Erica) Pedersen of Fishers, Indiana and Chris (Angela) Pedersen of Springville, Indiana. Haldie had nine grandchildren that he loved dearly and spent a great deal of time with: Ellie, Molly, Gavin, A.J., Gabe, Sara, Caroline, Livian and Allison. Their events, ballgames and birthdays were priority level occasions.

Haldie came from a large family and was preceded in death by his parents; two of his sisters, Terry Hunter and Susan Griffith; his brother, William Pedersen; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Hunter and Ed Lyons. Haldie’s “baby sister” Geneva, of Lenoir City, Tennessee; sister-in-law Susan Pedersen of Brookfield, Wisconsin; and brother-in-law, Bill Griffith of Menasha, Wisconsin all survive. Uncle Haldie was a true and complete living legend to his 24 nieces and nephews!

Haldie graduated from St. Norbert Preparatory Seminary in De Pere, Wisconsin and attended Marquette and Indiana Universities. He was a Drill Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and a proud member of the Gillen Post 33 of the American Legion. Haldie was a retired iron worker (Local Union #70); was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman’s Club; and a former member of the Elks Club.

Haldie was a graduate of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School, a devoted St. Vincent de Paul parishioner, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Haldie never traveled without his church clothes. St. Vincents held a special place in his heart.

The family has asked that all memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School.

A memorial service is being planned for the 2021 Kentucky Derby weekend as that was a special time of year for Haldie.

He was born August 2, 1955 in Jasper, IN, the son of Alfred and Patricia (Rees) Burger. He married Sandy Kay Burger (Huff) on January 14, 1978 and she survives.

He was a member of Orleans Christian Church. He graduated from Jasper High School and worked on Riverview farms for several years.

He is survived by his wife of Orleans; two sons, Chris (Lacey) Burger of Paoli and Brent (Emily) Burger of Ellettsville; four grandchildren, Gracie, Lane, Ellie and Benton; step-mother, Melba Burger of Jasper; five brothers, Greg (Marilyn) Burger of Dubois and Dave Burger of Jasper, Bruce Patton and Brian (Sherri) Patton both of Jasper, Clint (Christie) Burger of Chandler, IN and sister, Jaleigh (Adam) Long of Atlanta, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rick Burger.

The funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Reverend Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

James (Joe) Sullivan, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born June 24, 1937 to William and Josie (Melvin) Sullivan, he married Anna Miller on July 23, 1958. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2017. Joe was a member of the Salvation Army Church for many years and attended the Friendly Bible Church after the Salvation Army closed. He retired from Architectural Stone sales and was a truck driver for many years.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Joe are two daughters, Debbie Sullivan (Scott Pray) of Bedford and Tracy Fields (Bill Keane) of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Mitchell, Taylor & Jackson Fields, and Jacob Kern and Kristen Kern (Justin Linville); six great grandchildren, Gunner, Gracie, Annalynn, Vanity, McKenna and RaeLynn; and one sister, Helen Good of Bedford.

Born March 20, 1930, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Hanford and Wilma (Glover) Harrell. She married Spencer Isom on June 4, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 24, 2007. She was a homemaker and attended the First Assembly of God.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan A. Isom, of Bedford; a sister, Darlene Harrell, of Bedford; two brothers, Don Harrell, of Bedford and Joe Harrell, of Bloomington; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Max Harrell.

Thelma Fern Apple Holland, 87, of French Lick, died Nov. 3 at Bloomington Hospital.

The third of six daughters, she was born July 25, 1933, in Orange County to Joseph Benjamin Apple and Golda May Kirby Apple. On Aug. 13, 1949, she married Samuel Lee Holland, who survives her.

Fern attended Paoli High School, was a homemaker, and a lifelong member of Youngs Creek Church of Christ. She loved her family fiercely and devoted her life to them and will be missed immensely by those who love her so deeply. She encompassed the saying that family is everything. She was a private person who possessed an infectious laugh and sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her son, Sammy Mark Holland; granddaughter, Karolyn Slotten; great-grandson, Jacob Fontanetta; sisters, Anna Lee Crockett, Dorothy Livingston and Grace Robbins; and her uncle, Orville Kirby, who was raised like a brother to her.

In addition to her husband of 71 years, she is survived by her children, Barbara Holland Agan (Jeffrey) of Floyds Knobs, Kelly Lee Holland of Paoli, Jerry L. Elise graduated from Edgewood High School in 2009 and was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. She had a way with animals and volunteered at Wild Care and Bloomington Animal Shelter. Elise enjoyed people and socializing, especially with her grandparents and great grandparents.

Morris Chester (Chet) Shively, 94, of Bedford, passed away at 11:30 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.

Born October 25, 1926 in Mt. Summit, IN, he was the son of James (J.B.) and Mary (Chambers) Shively. He married Marilyn Spires in 1981 and she survives.

He was a career military officer serving for twenty-three years in the U.S. Navy during WW II, the Korean and the Vietnam Wars and retired in 1968 as Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion and Fleet Reserve Association and was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and was of the Protestant faith. He was an avid IU basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. He was a Kentucky Colonel, presented to him by his dear friend, Colonel Harold Milburn, retired U.S. Army. Chet was a great husband, dad and papaw.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn, of Heltonville; five sons, Lee Andrew Shively and wife Margie of Union, KY, Timothy James Shively of Treasure Island, FL, Randy Parker of Olympia, WA, Todd Parker and wife Jessica of Waynesville, MO, Brad Parker and wife Sandi of Winterville, NC; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Shively and wife Mary Alice of Nashville, IN, one sister, Mary Lou Dye of New Castle, Indiana and a daughter-in-law, Debra Shively of Colorado.

Michael retired from U.S. Gypsum. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 250. Michael graduated from Mitchell High School in 1969.

Michael enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family at Spring Mill. He loved his Chihuahuas.

Adrienne Faye Clouse, 87, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington.

Born July 23, 1933, in Salem, she was the daughter of Earl Wilson and Harvey Porter and Wilma (Colglazier) Porter Rhodes. She married Henry Clouse, Jr. July 26, 1951.

Adrienne was a 1951 graduate of Mitchell High School and a teaching assistant for 13 years. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved and cherished her time with family, friends, and church.

When there was something to be done, she did her best to get it done. Over the years, she was a den mother, scout leader, room mother, sports mom, and band parent. For many years she made crafts, and baked cookies and pies for various church bazaars. Regardless of the task, she poured herself into it. She loved to quilt and read.

Adrienne was a member of Tri Kappa, and served on the library board and Mitchell High School Alumni Association board. She was a member of the First Church of God.

Surviving are her husband; Henry Clouse, Jr. of Mitchell, children; Stephen Lee (Marsha) Clouse of Phoenix, Arizona, Timothy Lane (Keetah) Clouse of Mitchell, Chrislyn Ann Clouse of Bloomington, grandchildren; Cole Clouse of South Korea, Matt (Maria) McNair of Monet, Missouri, great-grandchildren; Samantha and Katelyn McNair, sister; Jackie (Porter) Brown of Indianapolis.

Her parents; stepfather, Harvey Porter; and sister, Donna Sue (Wilson) Pyle, preceded her in death.

Todd Ray Hendershot, 64, of Heltonville died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 1, 2020 in his home. He was born March 20, 1956 in Columbus to Herschel Hendershot and Donna Rider Hendershot. He was a self-employed brick mason.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Susie Allender Hendershot; two daughters, Donita “Jo Jo” Hendershot Grider of Nashville and Buffy Ann (Gabe) Allender Jackson of Danville; a son, Joshua (Shelly) Hendershot of Bloomington; his mother, Donna Hendershot of Nashville; two sisters, Tamara Sue (Danny) Cooper of Indianapolis and Patricia Hendershot of Nashville; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Ron Hendershot; a sister, Linda Noel; and a son, Rodney Allender.

Todd was a member of Blackwell Pentecostal Church, he loved spending time with his family and doing wood working and fishing. In addition to being a brick mason, he had been the superintendent of East Monroe Water Corporation.

Born April 2, 1948, she was the daughter of Earl W. and Magaleen (Allen) Meador. She married Clyde E. Cain on Oct. 11, 1991 and he survives.

Bonnie graduated from Arlington High School in Indianapolis and earned an associates degree from Indiana Business School. She was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Cecil C. Martin Lodge of Mitchell and a lifetime member of the Bedford Boat Club. Bonnie retired from NSWC Crane after 38 years.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Bonnie are her husband, Clyde of Bedford; one son, Samuel (Daria) Terrell of Brownsburg, Indiana; one daughter, Jennifer Terrell of Darlington, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jaron, Preston and Kailyn Terrell; one great grandchild, Magaleen Terrell; two sisters, Earlette Lee and Wendy (Mark) Pruitt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born July 29, 1952, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Edward Lee and Gladys Marie (Adams) Asbury. She married Raymond Harold Baker May 10, 2003, and he preceded her in death November 5, 2008.

Sue was a truck driver and a 1970 graduate of Mitchell High School. Sue was a volunteer at Older Americans and the food bank.

Surviving are her daughter; Kelli Rafferty of Illinois, stepdaughter; Theresa Hoover of Minnesota, grandchildren; Dana Wright, Christopher Dalton, and Emerson Wright, 1 great granddaughter, brother; David Keith Asbury of Mitchell.

Ervin Lee Williams

Ervin Lee Williams, 88, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020, at Johnson Christian Village in Bedford.

Born March 17, 1932, in Washington, he was the son of Ervin Reed and Lonnie Eldena (Bateman) Williams. He married Doris Ruth Beauchamp August 31, 1956, and she preceded him in death June 8, 1993.

Ervin retired from Carpenter Body Works. After retirement, he worked as a security guard for General Motors. Ervin was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church, president of the Men’s Group, and a long-time choir member. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and LIFE Food Pantry in Mitchell.

Ervin was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he was a paratrooper and chaplain’s assistant. Ervin was a member of American Legion Post No. 250, and served as chaplain for many years.

Surviving are his children; Dianne (Barry) Haste of Mitchell, David (Shawna) Williams of Bedford, grandchildren; Jessica (Craig) Friend, Jennifer (Adam) Begarly, Joseph Williams, Nathan Williams, 8 great grandchildren, sisters; Martha Jane Herrin of Illinois, Wanda Sue Bach of Illinois.

His parents; wife; brother, Donald Oliver Williams; and sister, Joyce Anna Killian, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, at the Mitchell Presbyterian Church with Pastor Je Lee officiating. Entombment will be at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the church.

Jeffery L. Kendall

June 10, 1954 — Oct. 30, 2020

Jeffery L. Kendall, 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born June 10, 1954, in Bedford, he was the son of Don and Anetra (McCart) Kendall. He married Sherry Hedrick April 2, 1975, and she preceded him in death Dec. 30, 2008. His second marriage was to Connie Sue Thomas on Nov. 11, 2011.

Jeff retired from the City of Bedford with over 30 years of service. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1972 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Jeff enjoyed his family, fishing on his boat, and traveling to Gatlinburg and Mackinac Island. Photography was his hobby.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Sue Kendall of Mitchell; children, Holly (Chris) Thompson of Mitchell and Anthony Kendall of Bloomington; stepchildren, Christina Kline of Bedford and Heidi Meadows of Unionville; grandchildren, Kathryn Sykes, Shyann Sykes, Charlotte Thompson and Jeffrey Kendall; step-grandchildren, Katie Thompson, Korbyn Kline, Caleb Macy, Cole Macy, Adrienne Meadows and Wyatt Sowders; step-great-grandchildren, Alexandria Caudill, Logan Caudill and Zayleb Macy; and sister, Kimberley Leonard of Mitchell.

His parents; wife, Sherry; and maternal and paternal grandparents, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Dwight Dunbar officiating.

A celebration of life will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M.

Robert E. Gilson

Jan. 24, 1932 — Oct. 30, 2020

Robert E. Gilson, 88, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel.

Born January 24, 1932 in Bedford, he was the son of Ernest and Mary (Rainey) Gilson. He married Gretna Hillenburg on October 25, 1952 and she preceded him in death on September 21, 2003.

Robert attended Bedford High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and retired from Bedford City Utilities water filtration plant. He was a member of Southland Church of Christ and the American Legion Gillen Post 33.

Robert is survived by: two daughters, Sharon L. Neff of Louisville, KY and Vickie S. (Ronnie) Melvin of Zionsville, IN; a daughter-in-law, Patty Gilson of Bedford; Six grandchildren: Derek (Missy) Neff, Debra (Jason) Jones, Melissa Melvin, Jeremy (Brandie) Gilson, and Lucretia Gilson; 9 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Gretna; a son, Mark Gilson; a grandson, Devin Neff; a sister, Evelyn, in infancy; and a brother, James Gilson.

Graveside services will be Monday, November 2, 2020 at 2:00pm at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Bro. Bud Smith officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the Honor Guard of Gillen Post 33 of the American Legion. Visitation will be held at the graveside from 1-2pm Monday.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services in memory of Gretna Gilson.
