Homer E. Boshears, 57, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, in Bloomington.
Born March 5, 1961, in Bloomington, he was the son of Homer Boshears and Norma (Williams) Paxton. He married Donnett Flynn on Aug. 7, 1981, and she survives.
He was employed by Elon Properties, Bloomington, and was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, Class of 1979. He attended college at UEI, Louisville, Kentucky.
Surviving are his wife, Donnett Boshears of Bedford; his siblings, Teresa Boshears, David Dyer, John Boshears and Amber Serabian; mother- and father-in-law, Donald and Betty Flynn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brittany Boshears; and his sibling, Larry Dyer.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, Inc. in Bedford, with Pastor Russell Hylton officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kenneth Kern, 81, of Bedford, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at his residence.
Born Jan. 14, 1937, he was the son of Charles and Mary Birdie (Taylor) Kern. He married Mary Louise Combest, and she preceded him in death.
He had been employed at Stone City Construction, Work One, and had served in the National Guard. He attended the Bride of Christ Church, the Oolitic Pentecostal Church and the Harrodsburg Assembly of God.
Survivors include two sisters, Wilma J. Sickman and husband John of Stendill, and Etta Rose Bealier, of Alameda, California; and two stepdaughters, Becky and Sherry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Paul E. Kern; and four sisters, Eula Gardner, Ruby Burns, Naomi Stone and Emma Ira.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Danny Goens officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery.

William Francis Ferrel, 82, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1936, in Seymour, he was the son of Goldia (Goodpastor) Ferrel.
Bill retired from Crawford-Morris Lumber Company.
Survivors include his children, Joe (Destiny) Bush of Mitchell, Steve Bush of Mitchell, Dan (Manessa) Bush of Mitchell, David (Tobi) Ferrel of Alexandria, Dana (Kent) White of Bedford and Chris (Jennifer) Bush of Mitchell; companion, Sue Elliott of Orleans; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and brother, Everett (Chris) Ferrel of Mitchell.
His parents and brother, Robert Ferrel, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery.

Raymond Dodds Jr.

Raymond Dodds Jr. passed away Oct. 29, 2018, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 6, 1931, to Abbie (Sears) and Raymond Wray Dodds of Norman. He worked on the family farm with his father until entering the Air Force in 1951. He married life-long friend Evelyn Hunter on March 23, 1951, and she traveled with him to his military posts, including Warner-Robins, Georgia, where son Randy was born, and Fairbanks, Alaska, where daughter Terri was born.
Upon discharge from the Air Force in 1955, Junior and Evelyn returned to Norman, purchased a farm of their own and had two more children. They moved to Florida in 1979 and worked together in their orange groves. In 2012, they moved back to Noman, where Junior again worked on his family farm.
Raymond was a Christian who enjoyed listening to southern gospel music, reading, hunting and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
He is survived by his children, Randy (Donna) Dodds, Terri (Glenn) Prescott, Tim Dodds (Trish Restall) and Tammy Dodds; grandchildren, Missy (Shawn) Collingsworth, Amy Fish (John Shields), Ryan (Kylee) Dodds and Lian Dodds; step-granddaughter, Candy Schofield, great-grandchildren: Jessie and Chelsey Schofield, Zane, Kayden and Luke Collingsworth, Braden Wickstrom, Ian Fish, Gavin and Emily Shields; and loved ones, Bradley Prescott and Brent Restall and his children Caine, Brileigh and Avery Restall.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Heltonville Christian Church. Followed immediately by the funeral service.
Graveside service will be at Mundell Christian Church Cemetery.

Brad R. Stewart, 57, of Bedford, died at 8:33 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.
Born April 29, 1961, in Bedford, he was the son of Larry and Judith (Judah) Stewart. He retired from Crider & Crider as a heavy equipment operator after over 30 years of service. He was a member of Operators Local No. 841, Gulletts Creek Baptist Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
He loved music and was a great guitar player, playing in several bands. He enjoyed camping and loved his dog, Lilly.
Survivors include his mother, Judith Stewart of Bedford; a sister, Linda Short of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry; and a brother, Jeffrey Stewart.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Billy Brim officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Michael S. McDonald

Michael S. McDonald, age 75, of Shoals, passed away at his residence at 1:25 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018.
He was born to the late G. Ermal and Edythe (Schaefer) McDonald in Bedford, Indiana, on April 8, 1943. He was never married. Mike graduated from Bedford High School in 1959, and attended Indiana University.
He moved from Bloomington to Shoals in 2008, and was retired from Stone Belt Freight Lines, where he worked from 1973 to 2003. He was the Director of Personnel and Safety for Stone Belt. He formerly worked for the Hoosier National Forest at Hardin Ridge.
He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1966, and was in the Military Police. Mike was stationed in Germany, and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
While in high school, he was a member of and the Indiana State President of the DeMolay.
Mike was a member of the Shoals American Legion, Post No. 61, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 2442.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Bedford.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Shoals, and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, also at the Queen-Lee Chapel. Military Rites will be accorded at the funeral home.
A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Cresthaven Memory Gardens, located on Dixie Highway, between Bedford and Mitchell. Brother Matthew Sullivan will officiate at the graveside service.
Donna Weddell

Mrs. Donna Weddell, 84, of Medora, was called to her heavenly home on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28, 2018, at Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour surrounded by her cherished family.
Donna was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora. She was a devoted mother and homemaker for many years. She retired from Mitchell & Stark Construction, Medora, in 1999.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed her flowers, crafting and spending time with her family.
Donna was born on April 26, 1934, in Denver, Colorado. She was the daughter of the late Blanche Brown Stephan and Raymond Dilley. On May 3, 1952, in West Minister, Colorado, she married Donald G. Weddell. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 2011. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Johnson, and a brother, James Smith.
Survivors include her three daughters, Melinda (Morris) Hypes of Campbellsburg, Vicki (Mark) Norman of Heltonville and Susan Brown (Tony Hamilton) of Brownstown; her grandchildren, Amanda (Charles) Newby, Dusty Johnson, Nikki (Scott Smith), Katie (Matt) Dittmer, Brad (Sarah) Brown, and Ashley Cowles; 13 great-grandchildren, Alexis (Nate) Waites, Emma Johnson, Abby Wayman, Gracie Smith, Noah Dittmer, Cash Dittmer, Jayden Brown, Samantha Brown, Wesson Smith and Kaydon Smith; and two great-great-grandchildren, Addie Waites and Oliver Waites.
Funeral service for Donna will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora, with Pastor Jack Belk and Pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Weddleville Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hague Funeral Home, Medora, and from 10 a.m. Thursday at the church until time of service.

Julanna Hornocker, 61, of Bedford died at 7:35 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at the St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
Born Dec. 3, 1956, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harold and Delores (Richards) Hornocker. Julanna attended the Bedford Sherwood Oakes Church. She retired from St. Vincent School after 20 years of teaching second grade. She had also worked at Wal-Mart for 10 years.
She enjoyed reading, being a part of the “Home of the Brave” Production, sewing and crafts, and would demonstrate early sewing techniques at Spring Mill State Park.
Julanna is survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Hornocker.

Marion Lee Peregrine Sept. 17, 1922 — Oct. 26, 2018 Marion Lee Peregrine, 96 of Shoals passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City, IN. He was born September 17, 1922 in Rhinelander, WI, to Chase and Bertha Mae (Morris) Peregrine. Marion had lived in Shoals for the past 20 years moving there from Florida. He retired from the maintenance department at the Charlotte County School system in Florida where he had worked for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1942 to 1945 during W.W.II. During his enlistment he received a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He was a talented carpenter, cabinet maker and locksmith. He met his wife Margaret while installing cabinets in her home. They enjoyed traveling. He loved just spending time with her, taking walks enjoying the outdoors and nature, and watching birds and butterflies. Marion is survived by his wife, Margaret Peregrine of Shoals, whom he married May 31, 1980; daughter, Linda Pearl Peregrine of San Antonio, TX; son, Larry Earl Peregrine of Lillie, LA; step-children, Melody Vaal of Santa Claus, Daniel Showalter and Joy Adams of Shoals; 2 grandchildren, Lesa Wilson and Carolyn Fauver; 4 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Ann (Higgs) Peregrine in 1975; grandson, Myron Peregrine; siblings, Mildred, Oral, James, Maryl and Mary Lou. Alice Faye Lantz, 95, passed away peacefully Oct. 19, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Greentown.
She was born May 20, 1923, in Bedford to Homer C. Duncan and Goldie Pruitt Duncan. She lived in the Anderson community since 1945, then moved to Bradenton, Florida, in 1997.
Faye was a member of Bethany Christian Church for more than 50 years. She loved to do crafts of all kinds. She loved to crochet and make things for others — if she sold any of her things, the money always went to Breast Cancer Awareness. She was a breast cancer survivor since 1999, then survived uterine cancer soon after.
When anyone needed a hand with anything, she was always the first one there with her hand out to help. She was also a big sports fan and loved her Colts and Pacers!
Survivors include daughter, Wanda Lantz Heath and husband Daryll Heath; son, Richard E. Lantz and wife Cindy Ritchie Lantz; sister, Elnora “Nonie” Duncan Russell and husband Russ Russell of Tavares, Florida; brother, Howard Duncan of Cincinnati, Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Minnie Duncan of Bedford, and Annabelle Duncan of Monrovia. There are eight surviving grandchildren; 13 surviving great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Earl Lantz; son, Thomas “Tommy” Edward Lantz; sister, Treva Whitted of Muncie; and brothers, Robert Duncan of Bedford, and Harold Duncan of Indianapolis.
Memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Bethany Christian Church, at Cross Street and Rangeline Road in Anderson, following a Celebration of Life.

Roberta (Kern) Davis, 96, of Bedford passed away on Oct. 25, 2018, at 9:36 p.m. at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.
She was born in Lawrence County on Aug. 12, 1922, to the Rev. Richard Kern and Ruby (Horan) Kern. Roberta married Henry Clyde Davis on Feb. 3, 1945, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1990.
Roberta worked at Trav-Ler and Coretron both in Orleans, the Big Red Auction Barn and for 35 years at H & R Block.
She was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church. She also was involved in 4-H as a leader, Girl Scouts and Brownies. She sewed costumes and had many dance outfits. She was a Sunday school teacher and was Mema to all.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Mike) Smith of Bedford, Polly Lindsey of Bedford, Susie (Joel) Fisher of Indianapolis, Penni (Barry) Magers of Bedford and David (Jeanne) Davis of Williams, 12 grandchildren, Jacque, Jennie, Jeri Lou, Jeff, Luci, Jerry, Paula, Heather, Julie, Jimmy, Sally and Jack, 24 great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Richard Kern of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Bill and Luther Kern; one sister, Doris Craig; grandson, Brandon Haley; and son-in-law, Jim Saunders.

She was born in Lawrence County on March 19, 1945, to Jim R. McClintic and Betty (Briscoe) Bixenman.
Kay had worked at 3-D Department Store, Bedford Office Supply and Sipes Body & Paint in Bedford.
She was a member of the Lawrence County Saddle Club. She loved to ride her horse, spending time outdoors and camping with family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Diana Case of Bedford; one son, Daniel Sipes and his wife Angie of Bedford; grandchildren, Nathan Sipes, Dylan Sipes, Tanner Sipes and Ashley Case; one great-grandson, Karter Sipes; four sisters, Myra Kendall, Deratha Smith, Beverly Holland and Tammie Marshall.

Born Dec. 6, 1932, in Jackson County, he was the son of George Thompson and Ida (Wheeler) Thompson Brown. He married Genevieve Hackney on Jan. 27, 1956, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2011.
He retired from Cummins Engine in 1985 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Fort Ritner United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching basketball and baseball.
Survivors include a daughter, Deanna Lee Thompson of Marietta, Georgia; a sister, Betty Waskom of Linwood, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

He attended Bedford High School and spent four years in the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by a son, Troy; his parents, Joy and Charles Srygley; and his sister, Patty Garofola.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Michelle Floyd; his son, Robert and wife Dawn; four grandchildren, Tyler Matthews, Samantha Nordhoff, Tamara Duckett and Matthew Floyd; four great-grandchildren, Claire Nordhoff, Leo Duckett, Maddox Floyd and Raedian Matthews; two brothers, Tom Srygley and Randy Srygley; and two sisters, Debbie George and Charlene Srygley.

Keith Donavon Morrow, 67, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, at his residence.
Born Oct. 28, 1950, in Bedford, he was the son of Herschel and Ola (Wade) Morrow. He married Peggy Lee Taylor March 28, 1970.
Keith retired from General Motors and was a member of UAW Local No. 440. He was a school bus driver for North Lawrence Community Schools and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and basketball. Keith was a member of Medora Masonic Lodge No. 328 F. & A. M. He graduated from Needmore High School with the Class of 1958.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Morrow of Bedford; children, Donnie (Connie) Morrow of Martinsville and Carie (Andy) Beyers of Bedford; mother, Ola Morrow of Bedford; grandchildren, Nathan Morrow, Jamie Morrow, Brianna Morrow, Taylor Turpen, and Chase Turpen; and sister, Debbie Fuller of Bedford.
His father and brother, David Morrow, preceded him in death.

Earl “Gene” Perry, 82, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at his residence.
Born Dec. 6, 1935, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William and Ollie (Cobb) Perry. He married Linda Roberts on June 6, 1959; she passed away on June 23, 2011.
Gene was a retired construction worker and painter. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War; DAV member and a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin Perry of Greenwood and William (Barbara) Perry of Springville; two grandsons, Zachary and Jacob Perry; brother, Larry Perry of Oolitic; two sisters, Lucy Mitchell of Oolitic and Edna Whitaker of Columbia, South Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda; two sons, Joseph Perry and Kyle Perry; three brothers, John, Charles and Burchell Perry; and two sisters, Sally Roth and Irene Stewart.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m Saturday, October 27, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Pastor Keith Thompson and Pastor Marty Speer officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

William L. Ward

William L. Ward, 86, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 at Indiana University Health Hospice House, Bloomington.
Born April 2, 1932, in Saylor, Kentucky, he was the son of Luther and Ethel (Howard) Ward. He married Addie Howard in 1962; she preceded him in death in 1997.
He retired from the Chrysler Corporation at the Dodge plant in Michigan, having to retire on disability due to a back injury sustained on the job.
William was an avid poet, awarded many certificates of merit for his poetry.
He enlisted in the US Army on July 8, 1949, and served with Signal Corps and Infantry; received basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky; participated in four major campaigns with Hungnam in the Chosin Reservoir Region of North Korea being the most memorable. He went overseas with 51st Signal Bn. In July 1950; transferred to 7th Inf. Div. in Yokohoma, Japan in August 1950; served with 7th Inf. Div., L Co., 32nd Regt., as a BAR man at Inchon until February 1951; re-assigned to Signal Corp at Camp Sendai, Japan. William was awarded Combat Infantry Badge, Syngman Rhee Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with four Battle Stars, Japan Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart. He was discharged on Sept. 2, 1952, from Fort Meade, Maryland, with rank of corporal.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Port Williams Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Stephen B. Pence, 49, of Bedford, passed away at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at his father’s home in Kokomo.
He was born on April 19, 1969, in Fort Wayne, to his birth mother Marion Frid. He was adopted as a baby by Wayne and Estella Pence, and he was preceded in death by his mother, Estella Pence on April 9, 1980.
Surviving are his father, Wayne Pence; two sisters, Rhonda (Stan) Ridlen of Marion and Cheryl Weeden of Kokomo; his birth mother Marion Frid of Fort Wayne; and a daughter, Madelyn Pence, of Bedford.
He traveled for a year nationally with the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps based in Bloomington. Since that time, he has worked as a contract painter in the Bedford and Bloomington area. He also did some playing of acoustical guitar in restaurants in the Bedford area.
His death was due to a fall from a ladder while painting.
Services for Stephen B. Pence will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main Street, Amboy, with Dr. Gary Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Lynn S. Hyde

Lynn S. Hyde, 74, of Springville, died at 8:28 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1943, in Prescott, Arizona, he was the son of the Rev. H. Gordon and Mildred A. (MacFarlane) Hyde. He married Marilyn Adamson, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 1992.
He retired from AT&T as a communication technician. Lynn was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, and he was an Eagle Scout.
Lynn was a quiet and tender-hearted man, yet possessed such wisdom. People were his priority, and he always put family first. He never missed an event or special occasion. He was a jack of all trades and used those skills to help those around him. He demonstrated what it meant to truly and humbly serve the Lord in every way of life. He was not a man that wanted recognition or glory, he only wanted to do what was right and be there for those around him. And if you needed a specific type of screw or battery, he always had it.
Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Hawkins of Springville; one son, Tim Hyde and wife Kristen of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Isaac Hawkins and wife Sydney of Bedford, Elizabeth Fowler and husband Josh of Mitchell, Rebekah Hawkins and Chloe Hawkins, both of Springville, Peyton Hyde, Briley Hyde and Taylor Hyde, all of Bedford; one great-grandchild, Sam Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one sister, Judy Collins.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 26, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Steve Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens where military rites will be conducted by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

C. Norm Brown, of Mitchell, died at his home at 1:06 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. He had been ill for 3 months. He was farmer. Norm enjoyed NASCAR, country cruising and liked to coon hunt.
He was born on Oct. 22, 1937, in Jackson County, to the late Marion and Bessie (Daulton) Brown. He lived all of his life in Jackson and Lawrence counties. He was formerly married to Vera Gardner Brown, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2013.
Survivors include four children, Colleen Carnita Jackson (Michael Macy) of Bedford, Leatha “Gail” (Barry) Taylor of Mitchell, Melissa Dawn (Joe) Kern of Mitchell and Coy Brown of Bedford; grandchildren, Heather Bennett, Erica Boone, Joshua Powell, Tracy Boone, Brandon Wilson, Caitlin Chaillaux, Brianna Wilson, Kiana Brown, Matthew, Caden and Caleb Kern; sister, Mary Alice Gardner of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Kealen Bennett, Aidan Reynolds, Alexis Fettig, Marley and Peyton Chaillaux, Alivia and Emilia Wilson, and Austin and Allie Harper; and a great-grandson Boone on the way.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Maurice Elliott and Harley and Bob Brown.
Funeral service will be conducted at noon Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will take place at the Proctor Cemetery/Dixon Chapel.

Kenneth Lee Bolton, Sr., age 68, of Fortson, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, at his residence.
Mr. Bolton was born Feb. 1, 1950, in Bedford, the son of Forrest Opal Bolton and Nora Empson Bolton. He grew up in Fayetteville, where he attended high school and was a member of Fayetteville Baptist Church.
During his long career in sales, Mr. Bolton represented numerous companies and held multiple positions. His outgoing and friendly personality, along with his love of working with people made for him a countless number of friends and business relationships.
He enjoyed the outdoors, playing golf, fishing, cooking-out and especially loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karmindy Lynn Bolton; and a brother, Dennis Bolton.
Survivors include his son, Lee Bolton of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandsons, Jackson Bolton and Levi Bolton; a brother, Gary (Connie) Bolton of Fayetteville; a dear friend and companion, Julene Buice of Fortson, Georgia, and her sons Jarret Buice and Jason Buice, and grandson Holton Buice.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Fern Evelyn Long, 96, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at IU Health Hospice House, Bloomington.
Born June 28, 1922, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Roy Bryan and Evadna Grace (McAfee) Wever.
She married Gordon W. Long on June 8, 1946; he preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2010.
Fern was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the Class of 1941. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; St. Vincent Bereavement Committee; American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, Ladies Auxiliary; and a Red Cross Bloodmobile Volunteer.
Surviving are three sons, Mike W. (Deborah Schober) Long of Orange, California, James (Glenda) Long of Bedford and Dan (Alicia) Long of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Cami (John) Flynn of Bedford, Dylan and Keegan Long of Kansas City, Missouri, Alex Schober Long of Orange, California, Whitney (Dakota) Evans of Bedford, Haley (Bobby) Hatfield of Fishers and Garrett (Jodi) Baker of Bloomington; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Tom (Beverly) Long of San Diego, California; and sister-in-law, Lola (John) Kapaldo of Chicago, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Wilma June Jackson and Lee Wever.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Marjory A. Bailey

Marjory A. Bailey, 89, of Bedford, died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at the IU Hospice House in Bloomington surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 23, 1929, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Warren and Lorraine (Dulin) Marlott. She married Bob Bailey on Dec. 24, 1947, and he survives.
Marge worked many years starting at the age of 14, popping corn at a movie theatre. She and Bob owned and operated the only restaurant in Heltonville for two years. She worked many years at Goodyear and then was office manager at Dunn Hospital. She and Charlotte Mohr owned and operated the Well’s Shop. Marge and Bob also owned and operated Bo-Mar Beauty Supplies.
She was a past member of Phi Beta Psi. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Marge was never idle. She refinished furniture for her daughter, tole painted, and was known for her New, Old World Santas.
She loved her husband and family whole heartedly. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, bragging to everyone of their achievements and sharing their antics.
Survivors include her husband, Bob of Bedford; one daughter, Beverly Bailey McFadden and husband Bill of Bedford; one grandson, John McFadden and wife Courtney of Bargersville; one granddaughter, Emily Compton and husband Barron of Floyds Knobs; four great-grandchildren, Reece Compton, Mia Compton, Cooper McFadden and Lola McFadden; and several nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, John R. Marlott, William Marlott and Philip “Whimpy” Marlott.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Bruce Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Donald H. “Snuffy” Hillenburg, age 69, of Norman, passed away at his residence on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018.
Mr. Hillenburg attended Norman Christian Church.
Don was born on March 3, 1949, at his home in Lawrence County to Elmer and Alice Marie Elkins Hillenburg, both of whom preceded him in death.
Don attended Heltonville High School. He worked at Heltonville Limestone and Indiana Limestone. He also worked in the logging business for Tom Horton, Jerry Brock, Phillip Hillenburg Sr., Jerry Hall and Micky Kinser.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also loved being outdoors, gardening and raising vegetables for his family, friends, and neighbors, mowing his lawn, riding 4-wheelers, and mushroom hunting. In addition, he loved to take his family fishing.
On Aug. 5, 1967, in Lawrence County, he married the love of his life, Fern Mikels, and she survives in Norman. They were married for 51 years and were the parents of three children, and raised one granddaughter, whom they claimed as a child of their own.
Survivors include one son, Terry (Amy) Hillenburg of Seymour; one daughter, Cindy (Dale) Ehringer of Norman and Ivy Sessions of Seymour; grandchildren, Lindsay (Neri) Mejia of Norman, Shane Callahan of Medora and Chelsey Ehringer of Norman; great-grandchildren, Cassady, Chelsea, Domonic, Bryson, Christian, Gabriella, Ezekiel, Maria and Alyssa; and one brother, Ronald Hillenburg.
Don loved all his children and grandchildren, thought the world of every one of them, and would have done anything for any of them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Besides his parents, Mr. Hillenburg was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue Callahan; one great-grandson, Bryson Parker; four sisters, Ruth Axsom, Audrey Hillenburg, Marilyn Stevens and Patricia Hudoff; and one brother, Phillip “Bud” Hillenburg.

James Alfred Jackson 77, of Owensburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 at Hearthstone Health campus in Bloomington.
Born Dec. 12, 1940, in Owensburg, he was the son of Alfred Ray and Lottie (Caudell) Jackson.
Jim worked at NSWC Crane and was a farmer. He was on the Board of Director’s for REMC for 34 years. He was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church, the American Legion and VFW.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Sharon (Evans) Jackson, whom he married Aug. 20, 1959; one daughter, Julie Maze (Bill) of Owensburg; two sons, James T. Jackson (LeAnn) and Jeffrey W. Jackson (Angie), both of Bloomington; two sisters, Nancy Leveque and Rita Anderson, both of Bloomington; one brother, Jackie Jackson of Owensburg; his grandchildren, Chris, Heather and Keith; stepgrandchildren, Ryan, Taylor and Dustin; four great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary N. Stogdill Lewis, 84, of Franklin, formerly of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:08 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin.
Mrs. Lewis was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Bedford, the loving daughter of Cecil and Ola Tidd Stogdill.
Mrs. Lewis retired from Cummins Engine Company after several years of service. After her retirement, she worked part-time as a beautician and a real estate assistant.
Mrs. Lewis loved sewing and gardening and she had a huge passion for shopping.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by her daughters, Patricia Williamson and husband Camden of Columbus, Pamela Sample and husband Eric of Columbus and Sherri Spiker-Cowan and husband David of Edinburgh; grandchildren, Suzette Burton, Laurie Williamson, Christina Allen, Shannon Lee, Corey Cowan and Jacqueline Cowan; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Wilkerson of Columbus; a half-sister, Sue Stogdill of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Irene Barnett of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dean and David Stogdill; grandchildren, Bill Williamson and Tamara Mezo-Lopez; and nieces and nephews, Wilma Perry, Donald Barnett, Anita West, Darrell Barnett and Cathy Clem.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Garden of Faith at Garland Brook Cemetery, 501 North Gladstone Avenue, Columbus, IN 47201 with Virgil Clotfelter officiating.

Luther M. Kern, 84, Bedford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018.
Luther was born in Lawrence County, July 18, 1934, he was the son of Richard and Ruby (Horen) Kern.
He attended Shawswick school and married the love of his life, Helen M. Alexander, June 12, 1953.
He was the owner of the Big Red Auction Barn and an auctioneer. He drove for Skill Gas, Bob White LP Gas, Mitchell Bottle Gas and Blue Flame. He was a long time school bus driver for Mitchell Community Schools (Bus No. 11) and later drove for North Lawrence Community Schools (Bus No. L2).
He belonged to the Indiana Auctioneer Association. Luther never knew a stranger or missed an opportunity to tell stories and jokes to all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen; and daughters, Sherri and husband Mark Ziebell of Mitchell and Kim and husband Darrin Chastain of Mitchell; sons, Mark and Susie Kern and Bobby and Najget Kern, all of Bedford; grandchildren, Manessa Bush, Kylene Leonard, Sean Ziebell, Amy Hendershott, Ryan Chastain, Zach Kern and Carly Powell; great-grandchildren, Max Ziebell, Adam Ziebell, Jackson Butler, Fox Butler, Ava Butler, Marley Leonard, Maggie Leonard, Asa Hendershott, Evelyn Chastain, Parker Kern, Caleb Chastain, Peyton Kern and Isaac Chastain; brother, Richard “Dick” Kern of Bedford; sister, Roberta Davis of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

William Samuel Edmonson, Sr., 72, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington.
Born April 12, 1946, in Mitchell, he was the son of Nellie Jane (Williams) Tolbert and Phillip Edmonson. He married Connie Sue Helton in 1965, and she preceded him in death in 1983.
William worked for the railroad. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. William was an Independent Motorcycle Rider, and enjoyed riding.
Survivors include his children, Elizabeth Knight of Mitchell, William Samuel Edmonson, Jr. of Mitchell, and Jenelle Brooks of Indianapolis; long time companion, Linda Kay Longest of Mitchell; siblings, Dorothy Sanders of Pennsylvania, Kenneth Tolbert of Pennsylvania, Duane Edmonson of Mitchell, and Jeff Edmonson of Mitchell; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
His parents; daughter, Melissa Pemberton; son, James Ritchison; grandchildren, Timothy Pemberton, Sherman Knight, and Joseph Knight; great grandchildren, Sammy Edmonson and Lachlan Cook, preceded him in death.

Wanda Gale (Ollis) Crane, 89, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at her residence.
Born Sept. 25, 1929, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Herschel and Felma (Hackney) Ollis. She married Haden Crane on Aug. 6, 1948, and he survives.

She was a graduate of Tunnelton High School, Class of 1948.
Wanda was a homemaker and worked as a Title 1 Aide at Tunnelton and Lincoln Elementary Schools.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bedford. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
Surviving are her husband, Haden; children, Beth Anne and husband Tom Harrell, Sharon Crane and Alan and wife Kim Crane; grandchildren, Josh and wife Caroline Harrell, Sara and husband Brice Templeton and Aaron and wife Mandy Harrell; great-grandchildren, Aliza and Haden Templeton, Jay, Rosemary and Rhett Harrell; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Pastor Lee Brown officiating. Burial will be in White River Baptist Cemetery, Buddha.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

Born Dec. 6, 1963, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Wilbur Leland and Sarah Louise (Terrell) Eisele. He married Angel Mundy April 1, 2018.
Bill was an auto mechanic and enjoyed fishing and camping. He graduated from Bedford-North Lawrence High School.
Survivors include his wife, Angel Eisele of Bedford; daughters, Samantha Rochelle Eisele of Birdseye, Jamica (Shawn) King of Mitchell and Stephanie Mundy of Bedford; granddaughters, Grace Mundy and Emma King; and siblings, Jim (Carolyn) Eisele of Bedford, Jack (Leanne) Eisele of Bedford, Frances (Danny) Leatherman of Bedford, Patricia Eisele of Bedford and Sue Eisele of Bedford.
His parents; and brothers, Wilbur Leland Eisele Jr., John Eisele and Jerry Eisele, preceded him in death.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Lawrenceport Cemetery.

Bernard “Bernie” Dean Johnson, 83, of Bedford, passed away at his residence Saturday morning.
Born September 28, 1935, in Martin County, he was the son of Audrey Johnson and Mary (Hamilton) Johnson. He married Geraldine “Jerri” Allen on August 20, 1955, and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2017.
He was a supervisor for Ingalls Limestone and Evans Limestone.
Bernie was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church, where he was a Sunday School president and served as an elder and deacon. He is a fifty-year member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, and a longtime associate member of the FOP. He loved IU basketball and softball, and played for the Oolitic Aces in the 1960s. He enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Mullis and husband, Brian, and Lisa Mathews and husband, Bill, both of Bedford; five grandchildren, Brad Burton of Washington, D.C., Jesse Burton, Adam Mullis and wife Christie, Scott Mathews and wife Ashley, and Jake Mathews, all of Bedford; two great grandchildren, Jenna and Averie Mullis, of Bedford; two brothers, Bill Johnson and wife, Mary, of Monroe County, and Gerald Johnson, of Fayetteville; one aunt, Viola Hill, of Bedford; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded by his wife, Geradine “Jerri” Johnson; his parents; and one daughter, Kelly Ann Burton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor Jamie Allen, Pastor Charlie Scott and Pastor Mark Fugate officiating. Mary Lu Bergdoll Hanson, 93, of Bedford passed away peacefully and surrounded by family Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at StoneBridge Health Campus following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Marengo, she was the daughter of John Emanuel and Orpha Thelma (Weser) Bergdoll. She married Albert Vernon Hanson July 17, 1948, in Terre Haute. Albert preceded her in death on May 6, 2010.
Shortly after Mary Lu’s birth, her father John, a teacher in the Marengo school system, returned to their Jackson County family homestead of Inter Creek Farm located near the Jackson-Lawrence County line on Guthrie Creek. From a young age Mary Lu helped on the farm collecting hundreds of eggs a day and assisting with farming operations. Together the Bergdoll family survived The Depression, and those hard years instilled a work ethic Mary Lu continued through her life.
She attended the Medora Elementary School beginning at age 4. In 1942, she graduated from Medora High School as valedictorian of her class. She was a member of the Leesville Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a 4-H member for eight years and later an adult leader. She continued her education at Franklin College attending one semester before returning to her family home in Jackson County where she operated the Bergdoll Grocery in nearby Leesville. After the war, she returned to Franklin College and graduated with honors in 1948. She was a member of the Beta Theta Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha National Women’s Fraternity and served as Chapter President. Franklin remained an important part of Mary Lu’s life through the years. She served several years on the Alumni Council and was a member of the Old Main Society.
After graduation, she began her married life with Al residing in Johnson County. It was there she worked for Purdue University as a home demonstration agent. While she enjoyed her job, she returned to Lawrence County in 1952 to operate Hatfield Tractor Sales in partnership with her father John. She had a deep love of the land and abundant respect for the farmers entrusted with its care. Mary Lu become sole owner-operator of the dealership in 1965 renaming it Lawrence County Ford Tractor. She retired in 1990.
Mary Lu cherished her community. Throughout the years she served on numerous committees and boards. To name a few, she was a charter board member and the first Vice President of the Bedford Medical Center Eugene B. Crowe Community Hospital. Her 43 years on the board held many responsibilities including President of the Board and Finance Committee Chair. She was awarded a Board of Emeritus status on the Board of Directors of IU Health Bedford Hospital. In 1977 she was the first woman president in the history of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce. She was a past member of the Bedford Medical Center Auxiliary, past director and member of the Bedford Business and Professional Women’s Club, and served many years on the Shawnee Trace Private Industrial Council, later the Shawnee Trace Workforce Investment Board. She was a past member of the national and state home economics associations and judged at many county fairs and the Indiana State Fair.
She is a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Leesville.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Ann (Marvin) Huffman of Medora; one son, Martin Kent (Linda) Hanson of Carmel; three granddaughters, Allison (Robert) Kruse of Bedford, Jessica Lu Reel of Greenville, South Carolina, and Jill Lynn Hanson of New York, New York; three great-grandchildren, John Frederick Kruse of Bedford and twins Palinia Leslea Reel and Veronica Lissette Reel of Greenville, South Carolina; one brother, James Richard Bergdoll of Leesville; one niece, Mary Kay Bergdoll Fergason of Indianapolis; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Franklin Bergdoll; two nieces, and two nephews.
A service of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday Oct. 15, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with the Rev. Paul Neuman officiating. Entombment will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Mausoleum with a private family committal.
Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and prior to the service at the funeral home.

Born June 27, 1978, in Bedford, he was the son of Nathan Sharpe Sr. and Jennifer McGill.
Nathan attended Bedford North Lawrence High School and worked at IN-FAB, Inc. in Bedford.
He attended East Oolitic Community Church.
He is survived by his parents, Nathan (Regina) Sharpe Sr. and Jennifer K. McGill; children, Makayla, Gabrielle and Ellie; siblings, Dawn Marie Hilderbrand, Tanya Sharpe, Lakeisha Lake, Donnie Weed and Shiloh and Zedekiah Conner; maternal grandmother, Barbara Hudson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Hudson; paternal grandparents, Ralph O. (Mary) Sharpe; and great-grandmother, Mildred Weddle.

He was born on April 3, 1936, in Sullivan, to Cecil and Edna (Johnson) Weaver.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria (Wall) Weaver; sister Doris Knowles; a great-granddaughter; and his parents.
He was retired from the Army Ammunition Activity division at Crane.

Beatrice “Bea” Hunter, 91, of Bedford, passed away at 7:18 a.m. Oct. 9, 2018, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born Nov. 20, 1926, in Jamestown, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Cella and Odessa (Miller) Young. She married Harold Hunter on May 2, 1943; he preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1996.
Beatrice attended Clear Springs High School and was retired from General Motors. One of Beatrice’s loves was oil painting.
She is survived by four sons, James “Jim” (Allene) Hunter of Heltonville, Harold (Carol) Hunter Jr. of Seymour, Jerry (Teresa) Hunter of Heltonville and Joe (Cindy) Hunter of Bedford; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Young of Norman; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Elnora Barnes; and brother, Joe Young.

Eva Jean Bowersox, 84, of Bedford, passed peacefully from this earth of natural causes, on Sept. 28, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
She began this life the daughter of Woodrow and Sada Smith in the hills of Virginia. After graduating from Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Virginia, Jean moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where she met the love of her life, US Navy Seaman Ronald Gene Bowersox. Together they moved around the United States on various assignments until 1968 when they moved to Bedford.
Jean loved family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her belief in Jesus Christ and time with her friends at church shaped her throughout life. At the time of her death she was a member of the congregation at the Bedford Baptist Temple. She loved spending time with friends and family, travel and motor sports — especially NASCAR.
Her husband, Ronald, and three brothers preceded her in death, Roy, John and Robert.
She is survived by her brother, Jim Smith, her children, Kenneth, Keith, Michael and Rhonda Kimball; their spouses, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her family will miss her greatly.
Memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until her service at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Alan Douglas Armstrong

Alan Douglas Armstrong, 68, of Springville, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1950, in Bedford, to Don B. and Rose Bridwell Armstrong. Alan was a seventh generation cattleman, farmer, and educator. Alan was a 1968 graduate of Smithville High School. He received his bachelor and masters degrees in Education and Administration from Indiana University. Alan married Sharon Turner Armstrong on June 5, 1976, and she survives.
He started his teaching career at Kirksville Elementary School and was an original teacher at Lakeview Elementary School. He taught third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. He was an educator for 43 years and he retired from Lakeview Elementary School in 2015.
Alan had a passion for farming starting at a very young age. At twelve, he purchased his very own cattle. He continued the growth of the family farm over the last 56 years to a productive 3,060-acre beef cattle, hay, and crop farm. Alan had a strong stance in preserving farm ground and being a steward of the land through soil and water conservation. Alan continued to grow the family farm to 1500 beef cattle with 500 brood momma cows.
After retirement, Alan and family purchased Standish Farm Supply in 2015 to continue the feed mill staple that serves Lawrence and surrounding counties. Along with his wife, Sharon, as well as his daughter, Ashley and her husband, Heath, they purchased a farm and developed a rustic wedding venue, The Loft At Walnut Hill Farm, LLC. The entire Armstrong family has purchased Bar P Ranch, LLC to continue the tradition of original owners, Charlie and Esther Parton. Throughout his life, he was involved with 4-H from a 10-year member to a qualified Indiana 4-H horse and pony judge. Alan even ventured into a new avenue of hosting cross country racing events including the Popcorn IXCR and the Crossroads Race at Bar P Ranch.
Alan has always been a very active member of the Springville Feeder Auction, following in the footsteps of his father, whom was one of the developers of the auction barn. Alan served as the Area II District Director and member of the Indiana Beef Cattle Association starting in 2017 to bring more awareness of the beef cattle industry to our consumers. He has also been an active member of the Lawrence County Cattleman’s Association. Alan has earned several awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Lawrence County Beef Cattle Association as well as the Lawrence County Cattleman’s Association Outstanding Cattleman of the year in 2008. He has also been an active member of the Lowder Cemetery Board since 2009. He was a long-time member of the MCCSC Literacy Foundation.
Alan was not only a beloved teacher, a dedicated cattleman and farmer, but also a family man. He had quite a sense of humor and could captivate any audience with his story telling and speeches. Alan was very involved in his three daughters’ lives, never missing a sports game, a 4-H project, or a horse show. He continued his love for his five grandchildren, showing them the passion of life and the farming ways of our past generations. He always reminded us to live life to the fullest each and every day and quoting him “what legacy will you leave this earth with?” You, sir, left this earth as the greatest dad, papaw, husband, cattleman, and teacher!
Alan was preceded in death by his dad, Don Armstrong; mother, Rose B. Armstrong; sister, Leslie Armstrong Wilson Hassfurder; and a brother, Mark Edward Armstrong (in infancy). Survivors include his wife, Sharon Turner Armstrong of Springville; brother, Joe H. Armstrong (Trudy) of Springville; three daughters, Amy Spires (Cam) of Springville, Dr. Ashley Armstrong (Robert Heath Prince) of Springville, and Allison Deckard (Levi) of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Caden Spires, Casen Spires, Olivia Prince, Garrett Prince and Ayla Deckard.

Born Feb. 11, 1929, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Crockett) Keller.
Marian attended Bloomington High School and was a member of Burgoon Baptist Church. She retired from Kroger after 24 years, and later worked for Jackson County Bank in Bedford.
She is survived by two daughters, Kim Knapp and Marla (Hal) Crittenden; son, John Deckard; 12 grandchildren, Josh, Toby, Matt, Brady, Brandy, Derek, Greg, Cody, Zach, Lacey, P.J. and Robbie; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and great nieces; and special friend, Wilma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Marcia Kay in infancy and two sons, Doug and Randy; brother, David Keller; two sisters, Virginia Clark and Margie Boshears; close family friends, Eddie and Wanda.

Travis Caswell, 33, of Owensburg died at 11 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2018.
Born June 23, 1985, in Monroe County, he was the son of Dale and Tammi (Girdley) Caswell. He married the love of his life, Jennifer Smith on July 15, 2006, and she survives.
Travis was an extraordinary man with extraordinary dreams! He had a heart of gold and a mind of his own. He learned at a young age that if you were given a job you did it right. It was that logic that made him join the Laborers Union in 2003. His ambition, hard work and eye for detail moved him from being a laborer to field superintendent in a short amount of time. He was a Field Superintendent for Milestone. In the time that he worked for Milestone he gained not only friends but like a second family that he was honored to be a part of. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local No. 841, and the Laborers Union No. 741.
Besides being dedicated to his work he was also dedicated to his family. His wife, their three kids and his entire extended family was his world. When he wasn’t working you could find him tinkering on a project, hunting, fishing, or farming.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer of Owensburg; his children, Reece, Morgan, and Josephine Caswell all at home; his father and stepmother, Dale and Penny Caswell of Owensburg; four siblings, Amy Kines and her husband Brian of Owensburg, Brian Caswell and his wife Deanna of Springville, Caitlyn Bohall and her husband Nathan of Bloomington, and Justin Caswell of Springville; four stepbrothers, Eric Manion of Bloomington, Michael Manion and his wife Chelsea of Chesterton, Seth Manion and his wife Alyssa of Stanford, and Logan Manion of Bedford; his grandfather, Sam Caswell of Springville; mother-in-law, Cindy Robertson and her husband Steve of Springville; father-in-law, Gary Smith and his wife Harvetta of Williams; a brother-in-law, Josh Smith of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Tammi Caswell; his maternal grandparents, Mary and Frank Girdley; paternal grandmother, Catherine Caswell; a cousin, Johnny Caswell; grandfathers-in-law, Maurice Smith and Ray Tarver; and a brother-in-law, Joe Smith.

Born Dec. 4, 1938, in Mitchell, he was the son of Frank and Ruth (Alexander) Arnold. He married Patricia Ann Ratliff March 27, 1986.
He retired from General Motors with 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local No. 440. Jerry loved sports and played football and baseball at Mitchell High School. He graduated in the Class of 1956. He enjoyed softball, golf, and bowling.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Arnold of Mitchell; children, Eddie (Candy) Arnold of Mitchell, Scott (Missy) Arnold of Mitchell, David Arnold of Clearwater, Florida, Brian Arnold of Springville, Timothy Arnold of Dallas, Texas, and Julie (Brock) Smith of Russiaville; stepchildren, Polly (Darrell) Bledsoe of Loogootee, Starla Pannell of Mitchell and Timothy (Mary) Cornwell of Bloomfield; 10 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and nine step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Connie (Dean) Terry of Mitchell, Becky (Danny) Mounce of Mitchell and Tony (Pam) Arnold of Bedford; aunts, Dorothy Nave of Lexington, Kentucky and Doris Pierce of Bedford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents and great-grandson, Braeden Shea Modglin, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Roger Allen and Pastor Jim Valentine officiating. Burial will be in Burton Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Alice G. Fish, 98, of Bedford, died at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018 at StoneBridge Health Campus.
Born Feb. 6, 1920, in Medora, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Wineinger) Mize. She married Robert Fish and he preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 2002.
She had worked at Trav-Ler Radio and Television in Orleans and later at Sarkes-Tarzian in Bloomington. She was a homemaker and member of the Apostolic Faith Assembly Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Kay Denniston and husband Bob, Jan Adams and husband Rick and Vicki Chastain and husband Chris, all of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Renee Cox and husband Jeff and their children, Brianna, Hannah and Tanna, Darren Denniston and wife Kathy and their children, Darion and Dane, Darci Curtis and husband Mike and their children, Chase and Austin, Bill Adams and wife Jamie and their children, Garrett, Jared and Will, Toby Adams and wife Jessica and their children, Zoe and Cooper, Mike Hunsaker and wife Cassandra and their children, Matt and Nick, and Aaron Chastain and wife Kristine and their children, Fitz and Ollie; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Stanley and Raymond Mize; a sister, Alberta “Bert” Leahy; and a grandson, Toby Dale Adams in infancy.
A private graveside service will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 8 at Mount Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery with Kenneth Allen officiating. No public visitation will be scheduled.

Amanda Elizabeth Grafton, 21, is resting in the arms of Jesus. She left this world peacefully at home on the morning of Oct. 2, 2018, snuggling with her mommy, daddy, and puppy Sophie.
Amanda was born March 12, 1997, in Bloomington, and was a resident of Loogootee.
Amanda fought a courageous battle with Mitochondrial Disease and Chiari Malformation. She attended the Church of the Cross in Shoals. She was a 2016 graduate of Indiana Connections Academy and attended Shoals Community Schools, where she participated in cheerleading. She enjoyed pageants and singing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Amanda was a mentor to other children who faced similar circumstances. She touched the lives of many throughout her journey.
Amanda is survived by her parents, Andrew and Amy Grafton; sister, Abigail Moody, and faithful “puppers,” Princess Sophia Adora-Bella, all of Loogootee; Granny and Gramps, Roy Dale and Beth Ann Grafton of Loogootee; Great-Grandma, Clara Grafton of Loogootee; Papaw and Mamaw, Danny and Wanda Moody of Loogootee; Uncle Adam and Aunt Stephanie Grafton of Deer Creek, Illinois; Uncle Danny and Aunt Pam Moody of Bedford; Aunt Susan Moody of Greeneville, Tennessee; Aunt Pamela Moody of Tennessee; Uncle Tim Jones of Loogootee; and cousins Eli, Allie and Annabelle Grafton, David Burton, Timothy, Kyle and Kody Moody, Micah Murphy, Alyssa Martin, Brittany Barnard and Jean Claude Kast.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Dale Grafton and Garnet and Elva Moody, Aunt Kimberly Gearlds, cousin Sheldon Gearlds, and special beagle, Shiloh.
The family will receive guests at the farm on Friday evening beginning at 6 p.m. Arrangements will be held on Saturday at the Church of the Cross, in Shoals, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with service at 2 p.m.

Raymond Aubrey Tarver, 85, of Bedford, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born May 21, 1933 in Oxford, Mississippi, he was the son of Joe Aubrey and Minnie (Spruill) Tarver. He married the love of his life, U V “Ginny” Watts March 30, 1956, and she survives.
He had worked for the Illinois Central Railroad. In 1976, he opened and was owner and operator of Tarver’s Indiana Flower Shop. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church since 1976, Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion, and was a Red Coat Volunteer at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
For several years he had a daily routine. Hardee’s for breakfast, lunch with his buddies at McDonald’s, and Burger King, Arby’s or Captain D’s for dinner. After dinner, the group would do crossword puzzles from the newspaper.
Survivors include his wife “Ginny” of Bedford; a daughter, Cindy Robertson and husband Steve of Springville; grandchildren, Jonathan Smith of Bedford, Jennifer Caswell and husband Travis of Owensburg and Joshua Smith (Kyiana Boone) of Bedford; and great-grandchildren, Lyric Smith, Reece Caswell, Ahyonna Smith, Morgan Caswell, Ayden Smith, Mason Smith, Josephine Caswell and Arayah Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lillian Knight and Nell Reeder; and a grandson, Joseph Smith.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Free Methodist Church with Pastor Scott Salm officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

Born Jan. 11, 1994, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Ronnie and Lisa (Frazier) Hughes.
Survivors include his parents, Ronnie and Lisa Hughes of Owensburg; one sister, Kayla Leone and husband James of Bloomfield; one brother, Andrew Frazier of Owensburg; a nephew, Ryker Leone, who he loved dearly; his companion, Lee Riley of Owensburg; and maternal grandmother, Mary Hughes of Owensburg.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Phyllis Frazier; and his paternal grandfather, Ronald Hughes.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Craig Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashcraft Cemetery in Owensburg.

Emily H. Wells, 85, South Bend, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Trailpoint Village Nursing Center in South Bend, after an extended illness with her loving family by her side.
Emily was born May 28, 1933, in Bedford, to the late Samuel and Audree (Dodds) Hitchcock. She has resided in the Michiana area for the last nine years coming from Bedford.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffry H. (Danette) Wells of South Bend and Phillip L. Wells of Momence, Illinois, and her loving grandchildren Audree L. Wells of Houston, Texas and Joseph H. Wells of South Bend.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia J. Greiner.
Emily was a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Speech and Hearing and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.
She was a homemaker and lovingly cared for her son, Phillip, for many years taking care of his special needs. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards, shopping and being with her loving family and grandchildren.

Her children and grandchildren were her life purpose, and she supported them in all their endeavors. Her passion for giving knew no bounds, and blessed friends and family alike. She was born in Lawrence County to Jason and Sulvanna Pink Hawkins Chambers. She and Jesse P. Bailey eloped and married in Nashville, Indiana in 1941. Through the years Louise worked at RCA, Sarkes-Tarzian, and S.S. Kresge’s. She retired as postmaster of the Heltonville Post Office in 1985. She was a lady who enjoyed sewing and playing all kinds of games, following sports and having fun with family and friends. And she made the best pies ever! Surviving are four sons, Phillip J. (Becky) of Bedford, Wendell D. (Beverly) of Heltonville, Gary W. ‘Jake’ (Jan) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Gregory P. of Bloomington; in addition there are eight grandchildren, Damon (Stacey) Bailey, Amber Bailey Hawkins, Cody Matthew Bailey, Courtney (Shane) Nolan, Aaron J. Richard married Evelyn M. Connell on Dec. 26, 1946, in Mitchell and she preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2017. Richard was a graduate of Bedford High School, a charter member of the Woodville Baptist Church; was the owner operator of Bear Chassis Alignment in Bedford and was an US Navy veteran of World War II. Dennis Edward Tolle, Sr., 70, of Oolitic, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington. He has gone on to his Heavenly reward. Born Oct. 15, 1947, in Kokomo, he was the son of Roscoe Tolle and Estella (Brady) Tolle-Huyter. He married Jeannette Goss on Feb. 4, 1967, and she survives. He was a tool and die maker for 30 years, working at Quality Machine and Tool and Bedford Machine. He was a minister for 47 years, pioneering a church in Cloverdale. He pastored Belmont Chapel, and he also pastored in Seymour and Columbus. He evangelized for five years. He was a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church. Married to his loving wife for 51 years, was a great husband and loving father, who touched the lives of many. He will be sadly missed but he is no longer suffering. He is with Jesus.
