Helen Marie (Ward) Howell

Helen Marie Howell, 84, of Campbellsburg, passed away at 1:54 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, the daughter of Alfred and Cassie (Yeary) Ward.

She attended Lost River Baptist Church and Orleans Christian Church. She worked at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home for over 20 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Eberle (Tom) of Campbellsburg and Tammy Fleck of Salem; two sons, David Grace (Shelly) of Williams and Doug Grace (Judy) of Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfred “Wayne” Ward of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Glenn Grace; second husband, Russell Howell; and one sister, Billie Howell.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Lost River Baptist Church with Johnny Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery in Campbellsburg.

Friends are invited to visitation at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 p.m.

Betty Jo (Bailey) Todd

Betty Jo Todd passed away on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, in Pasadena, Texas.

Betty was born Nov. 2, 1930 in Jackson County. She grew up in Heltonville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Earl Todd; and by her parents, James and Thelma (Adams) Bailey; son Michael Todd; and a sister, Wilma Hillenburg.

Survivors include two sons, James (Rebecca) Todd of Pasadena, Texas; John Wayne Todd of West Monroe, Louisiana; and three grandchildren, Angela (Bryan) Andrick of Bedford, Amber (Jim) Littlejohn of Mitchell, and Shawn (Sarah) of Seymour; five great-grandchildren, Derek O’Neal and Brittany O’Neal of Bedford, Kayla (Aaron) Reed of Erlanger, Kentucky, Tanner Hawkins of Mitchell and Jacob Todd of El Paso, Texas. She is survived by a brother, James (Gladys) Bailey of Bedford, and a sister, Linda Baker of Phoenix, Arizona. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty ended her banking career as a loan officer at Bank One in Bedford, where she worked for 32 years.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Southland Church of Christ in Bedford with Bud Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service hour at the church.

Pamela Gay (Smith) Reeves

Jan. 9, 1959 — Aug. 27, 2018

Pamela Gay Smith Reeves, age 59, of Heltonville, passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 27, 2018, at the Indiana University Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born in Bedford on Jan. 9, 1959, to Fred Smith and Olive Mae Eads Smith.

Pam worked over 30 years with Indiana University and was a member of the Old Chapel Hill Church. Pam was very proud to help out charities such as the United Way, and the Humane Society and ultimately gave of her self as a cornea donor after her death.

She leaves behind her family members husband, Joe Reeves of Heltonville; sister, Sherry Salyers and her husband Roger of Bloomington; mother, Olive Mae Eads Smith of Bloomington; a half-brother, Robin Martin; and a half-sister, Shelly King, both of Heltonville. Pam’s father-in-law, Stanley Reeves and his wife June of Bloomington, also survive as well as nephews, Austin Hill, David Gaither and Eric Reeves; nieces, Jennifer Harmon, Courtney Waters, Christy Shields and Jodie Reeves; and a cousin Bobby Murphy.

Pam was predeceased by her father; grandparents, Clifford and Otha Eads; and mother-in-law, Rosemary Drescher.

Funeral service for Pam will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 31, from 11 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. also at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Johnny W. Baker

Johnny Wade Baker Jr., 53, of Bedford, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Westview Nursing and Rehab.

Born Oct. 19, 1964, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Johnny W. Baker Sr. and Marie (Johnson) Baker. He was disabled.

He attended Restoration Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his parents, Johnny and Marie Baker of Bedford; brother, Richard Baker and wife Beverly of Bedford; a niece, Kimberly Brewer and husband Joe of Seymour; two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Leesville Cemetery with the Rev. George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, at the Restoration Church of the Nazarene Englewood Ministry, 3202 Washington Ave. in Bedford.

Due to his mother’s severe allergies, Johnny’s request was that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to his family to help with his expenses.

Helen V. Richards

Helen V. (Mitchell) Richards, 91, Bedford, died Monday.

She was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Heltonville, to Paul and Bertha (Meadows) Mitchell.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic Faith Assembly Church in Bedford.

Survivors include her son, Roger Richards; daughters, Paula Fleetwood and Ruth Cauldwell; brothers, Gary, Evan and Wayne Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Richards Sr.; brothers, Loris and Ray Mitchell; and sister, Vivian Kern.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville with the Rev. Kenneth Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery.

Richard L. Fisher

Oct. 23, 1941 — July 28, 2018

Richard L. Fisher, 77, West Harrison, Ohio, died July 28.

He was born Oct. 23, 1941, to Homer and May Fisher. He married Velma Woods of Norman, Dec. 8, 1963. They were blessed with one son.

Richard was active in the Boy Scouts and United States Air Force, Air Defense command.

He graduated from Bedford High School in 1960. He earned Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Religious Education. He went on to earn three doctorate degrees: Theology in 1991; Divinity in 1997; and Education in Guidance and Counseling in 1998.

He was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene in 1969. He pastored several churches, retiring for health reasons in 2016. He started preaching at Peerless Baptist Church while a senior in high school. His pastoring took him to Mishawaka, Kurtz and Nashville in Indiana; Grand Prairie, Texas; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Cincinnati, Ohio, where he retired after 32 years.

His favorite part of pastoring was studying for his sermons and being with people. He loved working with different cultures in many different countries.

His international work began in Pittsburgh. He worked with two families coming from Cambodia, meeting them at the airport. He found out they spoke no English and he didn’t speak their language, so he turned on a Gospel tape and found out they loved music. This was the first time he was lost for words.

Upon moving to Cincinnati, he saw a need for housing young men coming to study. He prayed much about it and founded International Ministry. He formed a board, rented a large house and paid for it to start moving them in. The first was a young man from Ethiopia. The house was filled with eight men before the week was over. On Sunday evenings he would go from church-to-church to raise money to keep the house available.

He wrote a book, “Multi-cultural Missions – Preparing Ministry for the Future,” which was used as a text book in a small college.

A young girl, age 6, came to Cincinnati with her family from Cambodia. Shortly after arriving, the father became ill and passed away. The family was in a strange land, knew no English or what to do. Richard worked with them, four of the children started coming to church. He became like a father to them and helped lead them to Christ as a personal savior.

Pastor Fisher was a friend to all. He spent his life teaching people about God’s love. Everyone was the same in his eyes. His view of the world was a full cup of opportunities to make someone’s day better and bring them closer to God.

Despite battling acute Porphyria most of his adult life, he was always ready to pray with you. Although he’s left to be with God, his memory and positive input will live on. He is greatly missed, but never will be forgotten.

A young girl from Belize said Pastor Fisher was always cheerful, made everyone feel special and loved. It was always a blessed day to him.

His favorite saying was, “God bless you, real good.”

He served as a chaplain with the Civil Air Patrol in Brown County, the Jackson County jail, and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Cincinnati during Desert Storm.

His first love was God, second was family — including his wife of 54 years; son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He loved his siblings, nieces, nephews and everyone he met.

After retiring he moved to West Harrison, Ohio, where he loved to study and watch animals outside his window.

He was in hospice the last three months of his life.

There were two services, one in Ohio and one in Indiana. He was laid to rest at White River Cemetery in Medora.

He was a man of great compassion. He didn’t care how rich or poor you were or where you came from, everyone was the same in his and God’s eyes.

Evelyn Joan (Oakley) Casada

March 7, 1925 — Aug. 26, 2018

Evelyn Joan Casada, 93, of Bedford, left this world peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, to walk through the gates of Heaven to meet her Lord and Savior and to joyfully reunite with her family.

Born March 7, 1925, in Hareleston, Norfolk, England, to William Charles and Gladys Maude Oakley. She later met and married Claude Leon Casada on Jan. 6, 1945, and spent her honeymoon in a bomb shelter in London, England, before coming by the troop ship the Queen Mary to New York and then a train to Mitchell, to become the first English war bride in Lawrence County.

Joan was retired from Extruded Alloy and was a minister’s wife as well as a homemaker. She was the most loving and loved person you ever met. Joan and Claude ministered to many in southern Indiana, Little Cincinnati Church, Bartlettsville Church and were devout members of Dive Christian Church, all of whom were counted and loved as family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; her daughter, Sharon Ann Brown and her son, Trevor Leon Casada. Joan is survived by her grandchildren, Gregory Alan Brown and wife Margaret, Hillary Elbert and husband Byron and Chrissy Hagan and husband Ronnie; great-grandchildren, Joshua Brown and wife Jacinda, Mackenzie Welch and husband Chris, Zachary Ryan Hingtgen, Zane Thompson and Gregory Brown II, Gladys Yvonne Hagan, James Michael Hagan and Veronica Dobbs and husband Christopher; multiple great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and longtime friend and caregiver, Jenny Thompson.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the Dive Christian Church. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Gregory Brown, Joshua Brown, Jon Bex, Zachary Ryan Hingtgen and Donald Thompson.

James Theodore Gilbert

Oct. 27, 1928 — Aug. 26, 2018

James Theodore Gilbert, 89, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 26, 2018, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Oct. 27, 1928, in Medora, he was the son of Henry Wilburn and Mary Ethel (Baker) Gilbert. He married Emily Rhodes Melton March 27, 1948, and she preceded him in death April 4, 2009.

Ted had been a police officer in El Segundo, California, and was also a contractor. He was a member of the First Church of God in Mitchell and Spring Mill Squares. Ted was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his children, James (Mickee) Gilbert of Bedford, Michael Gilbert of Bedford, Steven (Sheilia) Gilbert of Mitchell and Jane Decker of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Sherry Gilbert of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Emily Belle Lane of Jefferson City, Missouri.

His parents; wife; son, Jeffrey Wayne Gilbert; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Gilbert; and sisters, Elizabeth Ann Wilcoxen and Phyllis Juanita Shepherd, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Dr. Robert C. Courson officiating. Burial will be in Proctor/Dixon Chapel Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

David Alan Walton

David Alan Walton, 57, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 27, 1961, in Bedford, he was the son of James and Martha (Harrison) Walton. He married Evalyn Adamson Nov. 21, 1987.

Due to his devotion to Jesus Christ, David dedicated his life to the ministry. His mission work included the Free Methodist Church, Medical Ambassadors International, and SIFAT. With an emphasis on teaching sustainable agriculture, he traveled to Africa, Asia, and Central America. David served in the Peace Corps in Grenada.

He shared a love for hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, bee keeping, and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Evalyn Walton of Clay City; children, Daniel (Kristi) Walton of Indianapolis and Hannah Walton of Clay City; parents, Jim and Martha Walton of Mitchell; and sister, Jamie (Troy) Young of Mitchell.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug.29, at the Free Methodist Church in Bedford with Pastor John Lane officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Donald Wayne Scott

Donald Wayne Scott, 80, of Heltonville, formerly of Whitehall near Bloomington, IN, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born April 18, 1938, in Bowling Green, KY, he was the son of Dalton and Earlene (Hayes) Scott. Don and Barbara met on June 12, 1965, and married on April 2, 1969. They’ve been in love for over 53 years. He graduated from the Arsenal Tech High School. He retired as a machinist/pipe fitter from National Starch and Chemical in Indianapolis after 35 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #440 and Order of the Eastern Star in Eminence, Scottish Rite and Shriners.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of Heltonville; a daughter, Michelle Scott, of Bedford; and two grandchildren, Christie and Chelsea.

Lydia Ann Rittmeyer

Lydia Ann Rittmeyer, 93, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at Bliss Place, Bedford.

Born Dec. 1, 1924, she was the daughter of Robert B. and Ruby (Wicker) Lee. She married Paul Rittmeyer on April 7, 1962, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2009.

She was a member of First Methodist Church.

Lydia was a retired Dental Assistant.

She will always be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Surviving are nieces, Dinah Cox and her husband Dave of Maricopa, Arizona, Nancy Peabody and her husband Royce of Bedford and Jill Webb and her husband Brian of Mitchell; nephew, Robert E. Lee, of Mesa, Arizona; sister-in-law, Janet (Day) Lee; cousin, Tommy Lee; her wonderful family at the Bliss Place; and lifelong friend, Fern Long.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul H. Rittmeyer; daughter Peggy Ann Jackson; brother, Robert M. Lee; and sister, Jean Powell.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Phil Thorne officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Gerald ‘Jeep’ Eagan

Dec. 5, 1940 — Aug. 23, 2018

Gerald “Jeep” Eagan, 77, of Bedford, died at 3:52 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born Dec. 5, 1940, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Woodrow and Lelah (Swartz) Eagan. He married Brenda Brown, and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2014.

He retired as a sawyer at Evans Stone Quarry. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Jason Eagan of Bedford; two daughters, Deanna Crane and husband Richard of Avoca and Melissa Hamilton and husband Bert of Mitchell; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Cummings and husband Don and Helen Couch, all of East Oolitic.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, George Eagan; and a sister, Phyllis Eagan.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Edna E. Young, 82, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018.

She was born Sept. 27, 1935, to Oliver and Elsie McFarland in Bedford.

Edna was the owner of the Smoke Shack Tobacco Store. Edna loved traveling with her daughter Kathy, doing crossword puzzles and socializing. She loved being around people.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Jim) Gulley; stepson, Vernon Dean Young; grandson, Doug (DJ) Martin; adopted grandson, Ryan McFarland; one sister, Glenda Jarvis; two brothers, Bill and Jill McFarland; stepgrandsons, Eric, Jordan and Tyler Gulley; stepgranddaughter, Emily Compton; great-grandson, Michael Martin; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Martin-Reese; step-great-grandsons, Peyton Gulley, Charlie Compton and Nate Gilson; step-great-granddaughters, Lucy Compton, Rachel, Abby, Kaylee and Kelsey Gulley; two great-great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vernon C. Young; four brothers, Jack, Robert, Samual and Kenny McFarland; one sister, Barbara Newman; and her parents, Elsie and Oliver McFarland.

There will be no viewing and a graveside service will be at Williams Cemetery at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28.

Sylvia Edith Boggs, 70, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at 9:51 p.m. at IU Health in Bloomington.

She was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Dec. 30, 1947, to Virgil Adkins and Lena (Wells) Adkins. Sylvia married Steve Boggs on Aug. 3, 1968, in Greenwood and he survives.

Sylvia attended the Work of God Church and worked at the Bedford Wal-Mart for 26 years.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Boggs of Bedford; two sons, Jeff (Jennifer) Boggs of Canada and Shannon (Michelle) Boggs of Springville; three grandsons, Kody, Matthias and Kaison, three granddaughters, Kaiya, Gabrielle and Elsie; three brothers, Raz, Chuck and Lee; and one sister, Beulah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Sherman, Edward, Victor, Lawrence and James; and one sister, Grace.

Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Brother Dwight Dunbar officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Cresthaven Funeral Home.

Nora Evelyn (Jones) Howell

Nora Evelyn (Jones) Howell, 85, of Bedford, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born Oct. 20, 1932, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Marion F. and May B. (Blackwell) Jones. She married Roy Howell on Oct. 5, 2002, and he survives.

She retired after 28 1/2 years as a budget analyzer at NWSC Crane. She had attended the Church of God and the First Baptist Church in Bedford where she had previously taught Sunday School and served on various boards for the churches.

Survivors include her husband, Roy of Bedford; two stepsons, Gary R. Howell and wife Carla of Bloomfield and Monty R. Howell and wife Sharon of Bloomington; a stepdaughter, Lisa R. Flater and husband Michael of Bloomfield; two cousins, Jerry Lewis and wife Kay of Springville and Nancy Griffith and husband Stanley of Jasonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Donald Eugene Richason

Jan. 23, 1931 — Aug. 22, 2018

Donald E. Richason, 87, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Jan. 23, 1931, in Mitchell, he was the son of Jesse Thomas and Anna May (Tillette) Richason. He married Marilyn G. Boston April 4, 1953, and she preceded him in death May 1985. Later he married Betty Chastain July 31, 2004, and she preceded him in death Jan. 22, 2018.

Donald was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Evelyn Rose (White) Woods Bridges of Addison, Michigan, passed away at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at Hospice of Lenawee Home, Adrian, Michigan, at the age of 92.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1925, in Bedford, to Orin White and Myrtle (Craig) White. She was married on Aug. 21, 1949, to James E. Woods from Terre Haute. After her husband James died, on Dec. 13, 1965, she married Eugene Scott Bridges of Mitchell, in January 1970, he passed away on Easter Sunday in 1990.

She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1943 and later from Indiana State Teacher’s College with a degree in Home Economics in 1953. She was a great homemaker, but most of all she will be remembered for being a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four sons, James Daryl “J.D.” (Jeanie) Woods of Warsaw, Mark Edward (Michelle) Woods of Albion, John Nelson (Diane) Woods of Warsaw and Michael Drew (Diana) Woods of Addison, Michigan. Evelyn was blessed with 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; also surviving is her younger sister, Anna Belle Smith of Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two siblings, Kenneth Eugene and Merlin Dale White; and her son, William Dennis Woods, who died June 1960.

Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. Her funeral service will follow immediately at 6 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home.

Lewis Bradley “Brad” Lytton, 67, passed away on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at home in Peachtree City, Georgia. He fought a courageous battle against cancer for 10 years and was ready to go home to his Lord.

Brad was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was the son of the late Lewis G. “Jerry” and Mary Jeanette (Henderson) Lytton. Brad was a 1968 graduate of Bedford High School and a 1972 graduate of the Indiana University School of Business.

He is survived by his wife, Hope Hamilton Lytton, and they spent 35 years of loving life together. They were proud parents of one son, Jordan Houston Lytton of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, and grandson, Jace Benjamin Lytton. Also surviving are his brother, Jeff (Bernie) Lytton of Bedford; a brother-in-law, Bobby H. Hamilton Jr. of Louisiana, and several nephews and nieces.

He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Raymond M. Hamilton.

He was a decorated Naval Aviator and enjoyed flying as a pilot for 25 years with Delta Airlines. He loved flying out of Pensacola, Florida. He most recently retired as a Net Jets pilot. In 2017, Brad was awarded the FAA’s Wright Brothers’ Master Pilot Award and had a total of 50 years of flying.

His family enjoyed the travel benefits of flying and numerous vacations on the beach, and as an avid golfer he would always find a nearby golf course. Brad had a zest for life and cared for people.

A memorial service was held on Aug. 20, 2018, at Peachtree City Christian Church, Peachtree City. Interment was at Barrancas National Cemetery at the Pensacola Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.

Norma Jean (Turner) Hutchinson, 87, died Friday, Aug. 17 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born Aug. 10, 1931, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Emery Clinton “Perc” Turner and Mable Holmes. She was a member of the graduating Class of 1950 from Bedford High School. Norma married Kenneth E. Hutchinson on Feb. 13, 1954, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2006.

She was of the Protestant faith. She worked at the Bedford Times Mail for 40 years, retiring in 1992. She was a reporter, city editor and was the first female managing editor.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Hammel of Bedford; four sons, Kevin E. Hutchinson and wife Teresa of Springville, Kent E. Hutchinson of Bedford and Davenport, Iowa, Kurt E. Hutchinson and wife Debbie of Bedford and Kenny D. Hutchinson of Bedford; one brother-in-law, James Lee Hutchinson of Bedford; 14 grandchildren, Trevis Earnest Hutchinson (Carla), Douglas Gene Hutchinson, Lucas David Hutchinson (Amy), Kevin Michael Hutchinson (Ashley), Steven Minett, Nicholas Minett, Christopher Hutchinson, Carrie Poole (Aaron), Casey Lemons (Brett), Amanda Hutchinson, Evan Hutchinson, Keeghan Hutchinson, Kevin Hutchinson and Catherine Hutchinson; and 11 great-grandchildren, Peyton, Trevin and Carter Hutchinson, Maylee and Owen Hutchinson, Jackson, Abram, Maggie and Lucy Poole and Gavyn and Owen Lemons.

Rita had been employed at K-Mart and Hoosier Uplands. She was a member of TOPS, a collector and a volunteer at St. Vincent Thrift Store.

Rita graduated from Mitchell High School in 1979.

Survivors include her partner, George Thomas Boone of Bedford; four grandchildren; siblings, “Chigger” (Connie Moore) Elliott of Bedford, Charles (Darlene) Elliott of Chillicothe, Ohio, Joyce Gibson of Oolitic, Brenda (Dale) Cheek of Monticello and Sharon (Raymond) Lawyer of Dillon, Montana; several nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Jennifer (Mike) Farley of Mitchell, Darrell (Cheryl) Boone of Mitchell, and Mike (Jennefer) Boone of Michigan City.

Wayne Waldron

Wayne Waldron, the internationally recognized Brown County artist and Bedford native, passed away at his Mitchell residence Friday, August 17, 2018. He was the son of the late Merle and Lois Waldron of Bedford.

He is survived by his wife, the artist, Peggy Waldron; daughters, Laura Vogler (Richard), and Jamie Waldron; sister, Kay Goldberg (Louis) of Dallas, Texas; and grandson, Logan Vogler.

Waldron is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and began his art career upon discharge.

An elected Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, he ranks among the most honored fine artists of the Midwest. His work has received numerous major awards in exhibitions across the U.S. and around the world — South Africa, Australia, London, Moscow.

Services will be held at the Chastain Funeral Home Chapel in Mitchell at 2 p.m. Monday, August 20. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion.

Grace I. McDonald, 93, of Bedford, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at her residence.

Born Feb. 27, 1925, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Clifford Joe and Mable (Harden) Pritchett. She married Samuel James McDonald on Sept. 13, 1942, and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2000.

She retired as a group leader at RCA after 35 years and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Alfred D. “Big Al” Bradford, passed peacefully at his home in Bedford on Aug. 15, 2018.

He was born on Nov. 14, 1940, in Bedford to Samuel D. Bradford and Rose M. Miller Bradford Cooney.

Big Al worked at Cummins Engine Company for 37 years retiring on April 1,1998.

He loved his family and his many activities.

You could always find him tinkering on a car, building a cabinet or doing many other handyman projects. He also enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting mushrooms and persimmons and target practicing with his gun and bow. He was a member of the bowling and horse shoe leagues in Bedford.

Al accepted the Lord and was baptized November 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosalie; one brother, Frank Bradford (Dixie) of Bedford; one halfsister, Debra Wagner (Danny) of Bedford; and several step siblings; one daughter, Chris Spinks (Tim) of Williams; two sons, David Bradford (Shannon) and Phil Bradford (Stephanie Duncan) of Bedford; five grandchildren, Amanda Andis (Justin), Dylan Bradford (Macy Sykes), Sarah Bradford, Anna Bradford and Emily Bradford; one great-grandson, Carson Andis, all of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Homer Dale at birth; grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

She was born in War Eagle, West Virginia, on Jan. 19, 1938, to James Homer Stone Sr. and Tessie M. (Walls) Stone. Edith married Robert J. Muncy Sr. on Nov. 11, 1961, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 2013.

Edith was a homemaker and member of the Xenia Church of Christ in Xenia, Ohio.

Survivors include a son, Rob (Becky) Muncy of Bedford; two daughters, Terri (Doug) Swan of Utica, Ohio, and Gerri (Andrew) Baker of Westfield; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Homer Stone of Columbus, Ohio and Tyrone Stone of Aldie, Virginia; and two sisters, Jewell Warden of Laurel, Maryland and Daynese Bishop of Charleston, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and eight siblings.

Cremation was chosen with a memorial service to be held in Xenia, Ohio, at a later date.

Connie (Conley) Crosby, 74, of Bedford, died at 3:27 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug.15, 2018, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born Dec. 31, 1943, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Pat and Grace (Rogers) Conley. She married Reid Crosby on Oct. 7, 1987 and he survives.

She was a registered nurse and occupational nurse at NWSC Crane. She was one of the first nurses at the Bedford Medical Center. She was a member of DAR and the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed genealogy, hiking, camping and traveling.

Survivors include her husband, Reid of Bedford; three children, Bryan Beasley and wife Cami of Williams, Thea Beasley, and Rhea (Beasley) Wilson, both of Bedford; three stepsons, Eric Crosby of Portland, Oregon, Cort Crosby and wife Stephanie of Los Angeles, California, and Clipp Crosby and wife Jane of Bedford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Ritchison and Hallie Coulter, both of Bedford; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and a cousin, Michael Joe Conley of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Patsy Sons and Hattie Armstrong.

Born February 4, 1918 in Lawrenceport, Indiana, she was the daughter of Harvey Curtis and Cora Effie (Enochs) Chastain.

She married Leathel Opal Robbins on December 24, 1938, and he preceded her in death in February of 1993.

Myrtle was a homemaker and read the Bible through every year. She loved crocheting, cooking and watching TV.

She was a 75-year member of the First Nazarene Church in Bedford.

Kathryn A. (McPherson) Parks

Kathryn A. Parks, 93, peaceably passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born June 7, 1925, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Ida Burton McPherson and Henry McPherson.

In 1943 she graduated from Mitchell High School and married Charles Robert Parks October 18, 1945. After high school, she worked at the Mitchell Ration Board, Crane Naval Depot and ultimately spent 35 years at the Bank of Mitchell. At the time of her death, Kathryn was the longest living member of the First Baptist Church in Mitchell. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her two children, Vickie Lee (Ken Lee) and Charles Robert Parks II (Tammy Catozzi); two granddaughters, Jodi Parks and Bridget Washburn; and two great-grandchildren, Sam and Cora Washburn. One son, Michael Parks and her husband, Robert, preceded her in death. Of her eight siblings, one survives, Agatha Rayhill Merry. Brothers, Emmett, Leland and Burton and sisters, Lorena Eversole, Rowana Thompson and Faye Chastain also preceded her in death.

Kathryn loved her church family, her pets, traveling and talking to people. She never met a stranger. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity of spirit, her enthusiasm for life and her compassion for all those in need of a hug.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 18, at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Helen (Blackwell) Zike, 105, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at IU Health Bloomington Hospice House.

She was born on Sept. 7, 1912, in Lawrence County; the daughter of Julius and Roxie (Holmes) Blackwell.

Helen was a homemaker and avid quilter since the age of 25. Helen was the oldest member of Clear Creek Christian Church, having been a member for 71 years. She was also a member of Good Neighbors Extension Homemaker Club.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Joyanne Hawkins and Glenda (Frank) Livingston; daughters-in-law, Tresia Zike and Vicki Zike; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Davis Zike; two sons, Jerry Lee Zike and Kenneth Dale Zike; three sisters, Glowdene, Genevive and June.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington; with David Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery.

Lillie Mae (Douglas) Roach

Lillie “Mae” Roach, 85, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, Aug, 13, 2018, at her daughter Penny’s residence.

Born May 19, 1933, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of William Douglas and Lola Marie (Evans) Douglas. She married Harry O. Roach on May 15, 1952; and he preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 2001.

Mae had worked at the Hospitality House and was a homemaker and caregiver.

She was a 50-year member of Dive Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy L. Shirley of Bedford, and Penny (William “Bill”) McArtor of Springville; nine grandchildren, Susan (Derek) Melvin, Misty Wiley, Jerry (Marsha) Garland, Danny (Amy) Garland, Paul (Melissa) McArtor, Paris (Kylie) McArtor, Elizabeth Roach, Sabrina (Kenny “Pogo”) Bingham and Richard Roach; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and expecting another; and one brother, James Douglas of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Rick Roach; nephew, Donald Douglas; one brother Billy Douglas; and one sister, Vivian Shelton.

Funeral service will be at noon on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Nile Young

Feb. 2, 1939 — Aug. 14, 2018

Nile Young, 79, of Bedford, died at 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born Feb. 2, 1939, in Burkesville, Kentucky, he was the son of Ress and Jewell (Roach) Young. He married Barbara Holt on April 29, 1961, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1997.

He had worked in local stone mills for 25 years. He and Barbara started Young’s Upholstery in 1971 and he continued the business after her passing.

He enjoyed fishing and watching the grandkids and great-grandkids grow.

Survivors include a son, Troy Young and wife Jamie; three grandkids, Landon Young and wife Calin, Lauren Wade and husband Josh and Elizabeth Baker and husband Luke; and four great-grandkids, Lailyn, Della, and Geneva Young and Elijah Baker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Gary Allen Young; and 12 siblings.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Landon Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the mortuary.

Christina Curtsinger, 85, of Orleans, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital of Bedford.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1932, to Russell Richardson and Della Kays Richardson in Kentucky. She married Clyde Curtsinger on May 26, 1955, and he passed away March 1, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; one brother, James Richardson; and two sisters, Lena Strother and Lavone Moore.

She worked for Paoli Shoe Factory in Paoli, ARA cafeteria at Central Foundry in Bedford and Mitchell Manor Nursing Home in Mitchell.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness in Mitchell.

Survivors include, one son, Ricky and Rhonda Curtsinger of Orleans; two daughters, Janet and Gerry Taylor of Bedford and Sandra Gail and Gary Clark of Bedford; one brother, Glen and Judy Richardson of Andrews, Texas; five grandchildren, Kristepher Curtsinger, Paul Duncan Jr., Kody Curtsinger, Michael Duncan and Jeremy Payne; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 West Campbell Street, Paoli, with Brother Steve Steurer officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Orleans.

Nino R. Lentini M.D.

Nino R. Lentini M.D., 82, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born May 12, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Anthony and Frances (D’asta) Lentini. He married Joan Morano in June of 1963 and she survives.

Nino R. Lentini M.D. is a retired orthopedic surgeon born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He has practiced medicine in the states of New York, California, Indiana and Iowa. He recently earned a Certificate of Distinction from the Indiana State Medical Association for 50 years of medical practice. He studied medicine at Howard University and undergraduate studies at City College of New York.

He published his first novel, Bones of Contention, in June 2018.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Lentini; son, Karl Lentini; daughter, Jacqueline McCullough and husband Andrew; grandchildren, Gavin and Alex McCullough; sister, Tina Babakhanian; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating.

Bonnie Irene England Brown

Bonnie Irene England Brown, age 80, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora, where she sang in the church choir, served on the altar guild, and helped serve funeral dinners. She was also involved with the Mission Federation.

Bonnie was a registered nurse and worked for Dr. William Blaisdell for numerous years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, reading, crocheting, traveling, and cooking and preparing Sunday dinners for her family.

Born on Feb. 5, 1938, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Earl and Ruby Wagoner England, both of whom preceded her in death. On March 23, 1955, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora, she married Ernest Brown and he preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2015.

Survivors include one son, Max (Angie) Brown of Seymour; two daughters, Vickie (Nick) Hubbard of Bedford and Zirita (Michael) Roberts of Bedford; two brothers, Leslie (Sylvia) England of Medora and Wilbur (Bonnie) England of Scipio; four sisters, twin sister, Betty (Aaron) Hume, Clara (Mike) Sears, Clarice (Harold) Persinger and Pam Guthrie; 11 grandchildren, Nicole Bowman, Jessi Wheeler, Carly Bell, Carri Harper, Jacob Brown, Scott Brown, Stacy Brown, Kevin Moore, Rebecca Ruiz, Amanda Allman and Ashley Brown; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Bonnie was also preceded in death by one son, Randy Brown; one grandson, Jared Hubbard; one sister, Barbara England Henderson; and two brothers-in-law: Winford Henderson and Earl Guthrie.

Funeral service for Bonnie Irene England Brown will be conducted at noon on Friday, Aug. 17, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Jack Belk officiating. Interment will be at Weddleville Lutheran Cemetery, Medora.

Larry L. McClung

Larry L. McClung, 75, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born October 17, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of Lonnie and Ruth (Young) McClung.

He married Carlita Smith on February 10, 1963, and she survives.

He attended Unionville School through his junior year, and then graduated from Shawswick High School.

Larry retired from General Motors as a tool and die maker and was a lifetime farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Carlita, of Bedford; one brother, Brian Richard McClung of Bedford; brother-in-law, Thomas (Lana) Smith, of Mitchell; three nieces, Shelby McClung, Holly (Ryan) Mills, and Amanda (Brad) Totten; great-niece Kinzley Moore; and great-nephews, Garrett Bradley Totten and Ezra Scott Mills.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Aaron McClung; and brother in infancy.

Larry’s cats are going to miss him.

Jerry M. Nikirk

Jerry M. Nikirk, 76, went on to meet his Loving Savior with his family surrounding him at 8:55 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, at his residence.

Born on July 30, 1942, he was the son of Isaac M. Nikirk and Ida Ethel New Nikirk. He married Linda Hutsell on April 17, 1971, and she survives.

Jerry retired from RCA after 40 years. He was a member of the Oolitic High School (Bearcats) class of 1960 Alumni Association, Bearcat Breakfast Club, and of Tabernacle of Praise Church where he was active on the Safety Team, Sound and Video Team, and JOY Fellowship.

Surviving with his wife of Oolitic are his children, Jeff Nikirk and his wife Moira of Bedford, Linnea Pennycuff and her husband Steven of Oolitic, Larissa Jerke and her husband Scott of Sellersburg and Seth Nikirk and his wife Amy of Oolitic. He was an amazing Papaw to 10 grandchildren, Miley, Macy, Luke, Lynlee, Lakan, Saxton, Lorelei, Saban, Annabelle and Savannah. Surviving siblings include, Elsie Webb of Oolitic, Betty Speer (Kenny) of Oolitic, Marilyn Kay Rathsman of Columbus and Mike Nikirk (Kim) of Kodak, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Warren, Walter and Wendell.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, at Tabernacle of Praise Church with the Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca.

Visitation will be held at Tabernacle of Praise Church from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday.

Edna Ruth (Little) Allen

Jan. 7, 1926 — Aug. 2, 2018

Born Edna Ruth Little to Henry and Mae Oma Little in Bedford, Jan. 7, 1926.

She lived an exciting 92 years of life meeting many people and touching others through her career as a medical receptionist, homemaker, party planner, and traveler.

Edna passed on Aug. 2, 2018, at the David Simpson Hospice House in Euclid following a long illness. She had been living at Anna Maria of Aurora, Ohio, and had remained independent making her own decisions and plans. She always wanted to praise and thank the many healthcare individuals who helped her on her life journey.

Edna married her high school sweetheart, Robert E. “Bob” Allen of Bedford at the end of World War II. They embarked on a series of entrepreneurial activities including a diaper service and carnival exhibitors of my great uncle Jack’s Alaskan Mummy Mystery. A real Alaskan Indian family’s naturally mummified remains found during the gold rush.

She settled in Loveland, Ohio and raised two boys Nelson and Marc.

A family farm near Rising Sun, was added to her home responsibilities while she worked for a dentist then optometrist. Briefly the family moved to North Olmsted, Ohio, then returned to open a new business, Wholesale Distributers Warehouse, in Cincinnati, Ohio. All the while managing ‘the farm.’

She and Bob traveled a lot and visited much of this country. Their love of golf took them to Scotland, England, Ireland and the British Open golf tournament. Golf was important in her life and she lived on the Jack Nicklaus course in Mason, Ohio, helping host the LPGA events for years. She played golf into her mid-eighties at her new adopted club, the Venice Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida.

Edna is survived by sons, Nelson Lee Allen, and wife Twila of Rising Sun and and Marc Kevin Allen, MD, and wife Marita A. Volk, MD, of Aurora, Ohio; and three grandsons, Jeremy, Nicholas and Aaron. Nicholas and wife Rachel have three girls, Kaitlyn, Natasha and Hanna, all living in Morrow, Ohio.

Her three brothers Ralph, Cecil, and SC “Sam” all preceded her in death. Catherine her older sister, lives well in Danville, Kentucky.

Wanda L. Henson, 66, of Bedford, died at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018, at her residence.

Born July 14, 1952, she was the daughter of Elbert and Geneva (Davis) Hensley. She married James Henson on June 20, 1970, and he survives.

Wanda retired as a supervisor from Cook Inc. She was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church, and graduated from clown school and was a semi-professional clown. Wanda loved her Lord and Savior, and was a loving wife, mother and nana. Anyone who ever met her, loved her.

Surviving with her husband of 48 years are her three children, Jimmy Henson of Commiskey, IN, Cindy Bower and her husband, Mark, of Bedford, Travis Henson of Bloomington; and Laurie Staver of Bedford; grandchildren, Levi Meadows, Bransyn Henson, Braydon Henson, Bryce Bower; step-grandchildren, Sami Zollman, Macie Smith Brown and Maddie Smith Turner; two sisters, Marcia Winegar and Sharon Ray, both of Heltonville, IN; three brothers, Brad Hensley of Heltonville, IN, Dennis Hensley and Charles Hensley, both of Bedford; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Garold Lee Spoonmore, 83, passed away at 10:47 a.m. Friday, August 10, at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital, with his family by his bedside.

Born July 3, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Elza Spoonmore and Ona (Harp) Spoonmore. Garold retired from the Indiana DNR Avoca State Hatchery after 50 years. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 and Avoca Baptist Church. He loved his grand- and great-grandbabies dearly. Garold married the love of his life, Arretta (Padgett) Spoonmore, December 26, 1959, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Leaetta Taflinger (Rick) of Avoca, Patricia Franklin (Brian) of Needmore and Kimberly Helton (Mark Davis) of Ellettsville; six grandchildren, Pamela Harris (Jeff), Nicole Taflinger, Daniel Taflinger (Brianna), Sarah McKinney (Josh), Emily Norman and Jennifer Stephens (Jordan); twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cecil and Dale Spoonmore; and a grandson, Michael Phillips.

Max Vernon Vest

Max Vernon Vest, 72, of Glen Allen, Virginia, passed away on July 31, 2018.

He was born on May 13, 1946, in Paoli. He graduated from Tunnelton High School, and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University.

His career in higher education spanned over four decades, including 37 years as Director of Student Activities at the University of Richmond. During his career, he served as a mentor to hundreds of college students and student affairs professionals from across the country. He will especially be remembered for his work ethic, signature mustache and moves on the dance floor.

Max was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janet Vest; brother Robert Vest; and parents, Blish and Irene Vest.

He is survived by daughters Jennifer Frank and Amy Vest; son-in-law Micah Hoggatt; sister Janet Morgan; grandson Aidan Frank; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be private at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, and a memorial service will be held at the University of Richmond in the fall.

Shelby J. Flynn, 81, of Bedford, died Thursday, August 9, 2018, at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born March 9. 1937, she was the daughter of Alva and Dorothy (Bezzy) Galyan. She married James Flynn in 1954 and he survives.

She retired from the Kroger store as a cake decorator. She taught water aerobics at Fit For Life and yoga at Rick’s Gym. At the age of 65, she began taking painting classes and painted every Wednesday at the art shop in Paoli.

She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, James of Bedford; a son, Danny Flynn and wife Connie of Bedford; a daughter, Tammy Helton and husband Jack of Bedford; five grandchildren, Michael Flynn and wife Mellissa, Amanda Simmerman and husband Tristan, Brandon Helton and wife Stacey, Whitney Peters and husband Grant and Brandi Smith and husband Tim; ten great grandchildren, Decker Pope, Peyton Simmerman, Jacob Simmerman, Jaycee Simmerman, Danielle Flynn, Cassandra Flynn, Jayda Smith, Jack Helton, Owen Peters and Jayce Mikels; a brother, Homer Galyan and wife Deanie of Bloomington; and two sisters-in-law, Yvonne (Bonnie) Galyan and Debbie Galyan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Larry and Bill Galyan; and a brother, Jackie Galyan (in infancy).

Born Dec. 30, 1943, in Mitchell, he was the son of RC and Edith May (Coulter) Terrell. He married Linda Sue Mitchell Dec. 12, 1964.

Robert retired from IMI. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 250, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, Moose Lodge No. 1897, and Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Terrell of Mitchell; children, Mary Rosetta (James) Gaw of Mitchell, Robert Eugene Terrell of Mitchell and Travis Paul Terrell of Mitchell; grandchildren, John Robert Ferrel, Kristopher Levi Austin Kinder and Braden Scott Gaw; and brothers, Mike Terrell of Orleans, Roger (Brenda) Terrell of Bedford; Nevel Leon Terrell of Mitchell, and Mark (Shirley) Terrell of Mitchell.

Judith A. “Judy” (Fields) Bockelman, 76, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at North Park Nursing Center.

Judy was born in Washington, May 15, 1942 to the late Floyd and Esther (Ray) Fields. She graduated from Washington Catholic High School and worked 20 years for M. Fine & Sons in Bedford. Judy also worked at PTS Electronics for 10 years. She was a faithful member of St. Benedict Cathedral and enjoyed gardening.

Judy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerry A. Bockelman of Evansville; her sons, Wayne Bockelman of Evansville, and Scott Bockelman (Kristy) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; a sister, Marilyn Helms; a brother, Fred Fields; grandchildren, Emily Cvengros (Blake), Ryan (Stephanie), Luke (Marci), Jacob, Evan, Dylan and Sarah; and a great-grandchild, Leland.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Shirley Michaels, Mary Ellen Ochs and Richard Fields.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville. Burial will be held at a later date at St. John Cemetery in Washington.

Gayanne (Franklin) Pelfree, 72, of Bloomington, passed away at IU Health Hospice in Bloomington on July 26, 2018.

She was born on April 4, 1946, in Linton, to Merle “Hap” Franklin and Violet (Owen) Franklin.

Gayanne enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.

She attended Needmore High School.

Survivors include her companion, Orville Aynes of Bloomington; daughters, Rennah White of Bloomington, Tammy (Curtis) Chandler of Judah and Angela Cox of Seymour; sisters, Sue (Jim) Callahan of Loogootee, Sherry Lindsey of Bedford and Kathy and Lyman “Butch” Taylor of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Genevieve Foster, 75, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born July 23, 1943, in Orleans, she was the daughter of John and Savannah (Enochs) Reynolds. She married William David Foster on March 15, 1965, and he preceded her in death Dec. 27, 2017.

Phyllis retired from RCA. She was a member of Harvest Community Church and enjoyed reading. Phyllis was a lovable mother and was loved and adored by many.

Survivors include her daughters, Diane (Tom) Davis of Springville, Pamela (Michael) McCarty of Enfield, Connecticut and Tamara (Kyle) Kucera of Seattle, Washington; grandsons, Eric Foster, Elijah Flint and Christian DeMarco; great-granddaughter, Carleigh Foster; and brother, Larry Reynolds of Markle.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Norma Jean Graham, Billy Reynolds and Jack Reynolds, preceded her in death.

Deanna Jeffrey, 81, formerly of Orleans, passed away early Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Salem Crossing.

She was born in Bigson, West Virginia on April 7, 1937, to Everett and Gracie Gibson and was the last of her family.

A graduate of Van High School in West Virginia, she married Morgan Jeffrey in 1955, and he preceded her in death in 2016. A twin sister, Delores Webb, also preceded in death in 2012.

Survivors include a son, Rick L. Jeffrey, and wife Sally of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Deborah Jeffery of Huntingburg; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews, including Robert F. Henderson of Orleans.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no visitation. Burial will be private.

William M. Johnson, 51, of Bedford, died Sunday, August 5, 2018.

Born July 22, 1967, in Bedford, he was the son of William C. Johnson and Frances Iris “Sue” Johnson. He married Judy Morrow and she survives. He was a former jail commander with the Sherriff’s Department. Bill had been an avid hunter from a very early age. He enjoyed both watching and participating in drag racing at Beanblossom and New Hope racetracks.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, of Bedford; his father, William C. Johnson, of Gosport; a son, William Michael Johnson Jr., of Bedford; a sister, Jetta Dunsford and husband, Steve, of Floyds Knobs; two nephews, Jack and Sam Dunsford. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mary Jane (Box) Hamilton, 88, of Bono, passed away on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at Garden Villa, Bedford, after a long illness.

Born April 30, 1930, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Benny and Verlie (Flinn) Box. She married Harry “Bill” Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry “Bill” Hamilton; parents, Benny and Verlie Box; sister, Dorothy Box Farris and husband Desco; three brothers, Roland “Bud” Box, Kenneth “Kenny” Box and Donald Box in infancy.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Baldwin and husband Everett of Texas, Karen Hearth and husband Larry of Bedford and William Scott Hamilton and wife Susie of Tunnelton; three grandchildren, Bruce Baldwin and fiance Ann of Texas, Paul Baldwin and husband Gabe of Texas, and Chelsie Hearth and companion Barry Miller of Bedford; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Kayliee Baldwin of Texas; sisters-in-law, Jewel Box, of Bedford, and Ruby Tuell of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a member of Bono and Tunnelton United Methodist Churches. She retired from G.E. in 1994 and was active in community activities. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and traveling.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Kenny Dalton officiating. Burial will be in Tolbert Cemetery.

Leo Lynch, 93, of Williams went to his Heavenly Home Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at the IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born June 25, 1925, in Martin County, he was the son of Harry Lynch Sr. and Louisa Jane (Grimes) Lynch. He married Lucille Etchison on April 6, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2014.

He was a member of the Williams First Baptist Church, and the Shoals White River Masonic Lodge No. 332. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service; he was also a farmer, truck driver owner/ and operator; he owned and operated a gas station in Williams and has served as the Spice Valley Township Trustee.

Leo loved his family, his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include his children, Evon Emmick and her husband Mike of Williams, Daniel Lynch of Williams and Millie Tidd and her husband Russell of Williams; eight grandchildren, Kelly Lawyer, Amy Stockman, Rob Lynch, Matt Lynch, Jimmy Coulter, Danielle Sinclair, Tana Tidd and Ben Tidd; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; a son, Robert Lynch; and 14 siblings.

Cletus Harold Gilbert, 72, passed away suddenly Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born May 8, 1946, in Martin County, he was the son of Leo and Elzina (Blake) Gilbert. He married Anne Wambold April 12, 2013.

Cletus retired from Otis Elevator. He attended the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed tinkering and being outdoors. He loved to hunt mushrooms and fish.

Cletus was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Gilbert of Bedford; sons, Donnie Gilbert of Valparaiso, Cletus Gilbert Jr. of Florida, Daniel Gilbert of Mitchell and Shane Gilbert of Bloomfield; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

His parents and siblings, John Gilbert, Charlie Gilbert, David Gilbert, Bobby Gilbert, Mary Jones, Juanita Marshall, Opal Gordon and Hazel Pemberton preceded him in death.

She retired from PSI, where she worked in the Bedford, Bloomington and Columbus offices.

Rosemary was part owner of Riddle Tractor Sales in Spencer, which her father started in 1955. She enjoyed reading books and being in the sunshine.

Rosemary is survived by her ex-husband, Lynn Evans; son, Rodney and wife Lora Evans of Bedford; grandchildren, Addison Evans and Arie Evans; brother-in-law, Mel Cline; sister-in-law, Patty Riddle; and one nephew.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcia Cline; and brother, Michael “Mickey” Riddle.

He was born in Indianapolis on July 25, 1937, to Milton Short and Idah (Peterman) Short. Bill was a graduate of Speedway High School Class of 1955; he attended Butler University; he retired as a lab technician from Eli Lilly in Indianapolis; he was an U.S. Air Force veteran; and a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Stiles of Speedway, Deanna Short of Indianapolis and Debbie Eickholtz of Speedway; one granddaughter, Courtney Short Gammon of Speedway; one sister, Marjory Starnes (Jim Richardson) of Bloomington; one brother, Michael (Ginny) Short of Bloomington; half-brother, Gary Stearley of Florida; nephew, Col. Born Aug. 5, 1927, in Bedford, he was the son of Robert F. and Minnie (Shirley) Root. He married Dorothy June Blunk on Sept.13, 1948, and she preceded him in death on May 4, 1989.

He retired as a pipefitter from General Motors in Bedford and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

Survivors include a son, Tony Root of Bedford; two daughters, Bobbette Root and Dawn Kluesner, both of Bedford; a grandson, Dustin Kluesner; a granddaughter, Cinnamon Kelley; a great-grandson, Shawn Kluesner; a great-granddaughter, Bailee Kelley; a sister, Evelyn McGregor of Bedford; a brother, Bob Root of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

Dain William Henry, 58, The Pointe, Bloomington, died at 1:31 p.m. July 21, 2018, in Bloomington.

He was born Sept. 27, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, to Robert William and Mary Jane (Thompson) Henry.

Dain loved the outdoors; it didn’t matter if he played a quick 9 on the golf course, or if he went for a long hike in a state park.

He was known as “Pappy” to his grandson, Carter, and enjoyed spending time with him, going to parks and making him laugh. Even at the young age of 2, Dain was already teaching Carter how to drive.

Dain loved to travel. Heading West with his good friend Dennis and spending days golfing with his best friend and brother, Doak were his favorite past times.

Survivors include his daughter, Randi Dodson and her husband Todd; grandson, Carter Dodson; and brother Doak Henry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. (2013) and Mary Jane Henry (2005).

A Celebration of Life will be from 3-6 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Upper Cascades Lions Den Shelter House in Bloomington.

Cremation was chosen, and ashes will be buried in Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford at a later date.

Born Jan. 14, 1932, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George Alva and Lyvada (McCory) Hughes.

He married Carla West on Dec. 31, 1954; she preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2014.

Sam was a retired law enforcement officer. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Easyville, Indiana.

Marilyn had been employed at Dana Corporation and the Jay-C Food Store. She was a member of the Bride of Christ Fellowship. Marilyn earned an associate degree from Ivy Tech in medical coding.
