Godsey — Paul Wayne Godsey, 61, of 61 Red Hill Addition Springville, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday at Bloomington Hospital. Born March 31, 1945, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Hobert and Edith (Anderson) Godsey. He married LuAnn Gore May 7, 1982, and she survives. He was retired from Rogers Group where he was a blaster at the Bloomington quarry. He was a member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department where he served as an EMS 1st Responder. He was a member of the Springville Trinity Pentecostal Mission and a National Guard veteran. Paul’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his grandkids. Survivors include his wife, LuAnn Godsey of Springville; two daughters: Diana Bex and husband Aaron and Barbara Godsey all of Bloomington; one son, Craig Godsey and wife Autumn of Bedford; five grandchildren: Matthew Feaster, Travis Abrell, Tori Bex, Ashley Powell and Andrea Godsey; one great-granddaughter, Larissa Kinser; one sister, Joyce Phillips and husband, the Rev. Wendell Phillips; two brothers: Earl L. Godsey and wife Mary, James H. Godsey and wife Roseanna all of Springville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Eugene Godsey; and one son, Donnie Wayne Godsey. Williams — Barbara June (Lagle) Williams, 76, Mitchell, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born March 14, 1930, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Cecil and Pearl (Broadley) Lagle. She married John R. “Red” Williams on June 29, 1946, in Lawrence County, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1990. She attended Mitchell Schools. She was a homemaker and worked many years at the Burris Elementary School Cafeteria. She was a member of the First Church of God in Mitchell; a past member of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 Auxiliary; and a member of the Mitchell Senior Citizens. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Margaret Ranard and husband Gary of Solsberry, and Karan Clouse and husband Terry of Mitchell; on son, David “Dink” Williams and wife Rita of Mitchell; one brother, Gerry Lagle and wife Pauline of Mitchell; eight grandchildren, Kelly Brewer and husband Ed of Bridgeport, Ill.; Jeffrey Scott Hall and wife Krista of Orleans, Barbara Jean Eilers and husband Jared of Wilmar, Minn., Master Sgt. Turner — Mary Lou Turner, 80, a resident of Westview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and formerly a resident of Cambridge Square Apartments, died at 11:44 p.m. Saturday. Born June 18, 1926, she was the daughter of John E. and Mildred (Howe) Sears. She married Richard W. Turner on January 15, 1943, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1975. She retired from RCA in Bloomington after more than 30 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the RCA retirees group. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Snow and husband Keenan of Bedford; one sister-in-law, Betty Sears Beren; two step-grandsons, Keenan Snow II and wife Carolyn of Mitchell, and Nathan Snow of Bloomington; five step great grandchildren, Zachary and Landon Anderson of Mitchell, Jordan Snow of Bedford, Emily, Gracie, and Dawson Snow all of Mitchell; and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, John Thomas “Tommy” Sears. Tolliver-Davis-Schlenker — Mildred Eileen Tolliver-Davis-Schlenker, “Millie” as she was known to her friends, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at White River Lodge in Bedford. She formerly resided at 3029 River Bluff Road, Bedford. Born May 3, 1925, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Ralph A. and Fannie May (Underwood) Tolliver. She was the fifth of 10 children, namely Edith, Chester “Chet,” Viola, Catherine, Ralph, Thelma, Rachel, Donald, Shirley and Brenda. Her father passed away in 1939 and her mother then married Everett Stigall. The surviving siblings are Edith Lantz of Indianapolis, Shirley Webster and Brenda Magers, both of Bedford. Millie married Lloyd G. Davis of Palmyra in 1942. They later divorced and he is now deceased. Millie later married Glen C. Schlenker April 24, 1976, and he also preceded her in death. Millie is the mother of four children, all of Bedford. Lloyd Davis and wife Brenda; Connie Sue Mathews and husband Larry; Michael Davis and wife Sheila, and Lou Ella Webb and husband Ronald. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tracy and Tonya Davis of Summerville, S.C., Kathy Nilson Brown of Mooresville, Brandt Davis and friend, Megan Hart, of Lafayette, and Jace Davis, Brian Webb and Becky (Webb) Moore, all of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Robbie White, Matthew Davis and Chase Robinson, all of Summerville, S.C., Alyssa Gill, Conner and Emily Webb and Bethany and Drake Moore, all of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Millie enjoyed life and people. She was energetic, outgoing and fiercely loyal to friends and family alike. Coming from a large family and living through the Depression instilled values that stressed friends and family are your most important asset and having a good time did not depend on having lots of money. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling, collecting dolls, good music, boating, wintering in Florida and a lively sense of humor. Her doors were always open to anyone who happened by. She always had the porch light shining. Millie was a past member of the White River Belles, a life-time member of the Bedford Boat & Sportsman’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, The Moose, T.O.P.S. and reaching her goal and maintaining her K.O.P.S. status. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Thompson — Jeannette N. Thompson, 82, of 2019 28th Street, Bedford, died at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2007, at the Core Nursing Home. Born January 28, 1924, she was the daughter of Herschel E. and Violet (Hamilton) Nicholson. She married Clifford Lee Thompson Jr. in 1943. She was a retired purchaser at NSWC Crane after 27 years. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventists Church in Bedford. She was a 1942 graduate from Bedford High School. She was the master of ceremonies at last year’s class reunion in October. One of her favorite jobs was working as a secretary for the late Mayor Hauck. Survivors include two sisters, Betty Bowden of Bedford, and Wanda DeBolt and her husband, Robert, of Collegedale, Tennessee; three grandchildren Rita Thompson Payton and her husband, Alan, of Arkansas, Robert Thompson of Bedford, and Roger Thompson and his companion, Trish Johnson, of Bedford; five great grandchildren, Heather Payton of Mitchell, Brittany Payton-Allen and her husband, Bobby, of Arkansas, Tiffany Payton-Allen and her husband, Michael, of Arkansas, and Kayla Heady of Bedford; one great-great-grandchild due February of 2007; three nieces, Diana Clark and her husband, David, of Collegedale, Tennessee, Twinkle Cummings of Bedford, Trenace Orender and her husband, Bernie, of Plainfield; three great-nieces, Jennifer Towles and her husband, Jamey, of Tennessee, Stephanie Clark of Tennessee, and Melinda Armstrong and her husband, Mark, of Shoals; two great-nephews, Brenton Orender and his wife, Tisha, of Plainfield, and Kyle Orender of Plainfield; five great-great-nieces, Mariah, Ciarah, Ariyah, Delani and Sari; and one great-great-nephew Braydon. Slate — James M. Slate, 86, 3008 S. Shawnee Dr., Bedford, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Memorial Hospital. He retired as the branch manager for Avco Financial Services. Survivors include two sons: Mike Slate and John Slate both of Bedford; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Whitmill — George Arthur Whitmill, 82, of Bedford, died Sunday at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born May 4, 1924, in Kansas City, Kan., he was the son of George E. and Charlotte (Campbell) Whitmill. He married Margaret Ann “Peggy” Horton on November 18, 1947, and she survives. George graduated from Lapel High School in 1943. He was a devoted Christian and a member of the Springville United Methodist Church for over 53 years. During those years, he was involved in every aspect of the church. He taught high school Sunday school class and was a trustee for many years. George touched the lives of many children over the years as a school bus driver in the North Lawrence Community School Corporation for 42 years. He was also employed by the school as a custodian for 25 years and was a life-long farmer. He loved raising and riding horses. In 2004, he and his wife were honored at the Needmore High School Alumni Banquet as “Mr. and Mrs. Hilltopper.” He was beloved by his family, church and community for his kindness and love. He was a generous husband and father and will be deeply missed. Surviving with his wife, Margaret “Peggy,” are two children: George Marlin Whitmill and wife Kathleen Crockett of Whetstone, Ariz., and Sara Whitmill Williams and husband Paul of North Liberty; four grandchildren: Jacob Whitmill and wife Samantha, Martha Whitmill Hilderbrand and husband Dylan, and Ryan and Jodi Williams; one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Whitmill; one brother, Charles Whitmill of Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. Jackson — Kenny Alan Jackson, 27, Leesville area, died Thursday at Sparksville, taken by flood waters. Born Dec. 10, 1979, in Madison, he was the son of Richard Jackson and Judy Virginia (Lewis) Ratcliff. He was a quarryman for Evans Quarries in Bedford and also worked for Stanbaugh Forestry in Springville. He was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the Class of 1998. Survivors include his mother, Judy Ratcliff and husband Ronald L. Ratcliff of Leesville; his father, Richard A. Jackson and wife Amanda of Chelsea; two sisters: Elizabeth Jackson, Indianapolis and Jessica Jackson, Madison; two stepbrothers: Matt and Mike Ratcliff, both of Bedford; his fiancée, Audrey Wilkerson, Mitchell; his maternal grandmother, Juanita Lewis, Madison; three aunts: Karen Lewis, Madison, Lynn Williams and Sandy Jackson, both of Chelsea; two uncles: Steve Lewis, Richmond, Ky., and Scott Jackson, Saluda; and a great uncle and aunt, Earl and Edith Lewis, Indianapolis. Sterling — Charles Dwayne Sterling, 63, 1032 24th Street, Bedford, died at 2:43 p.m. Saturday at Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington. Born July 14, 1943, in Oakdale, La., he was the son of Davis and Martha Lena Sterling. He married Bertha Hackett and she survives. Charles lived in LaGrange, Ill., where he worked at Chase Manufacturing for 12 years. Following that he and his family relocated to Bedford where he became gainfully employed with Carpenter Bus Corp. in Mitchell. He later was employed at Imco Recycling, Inc. and retired from there in 2001. On September 15, 2001, Charles (Chuck) and Bertha followed a family vision and opened up what is known as Chuck’s Soulfood Restaurant. Through their dedication and commitment, the business became the first African American business in Bedford. Chuck and Bertha took pride in sharing their gift of cooking. They took cooking for his customers as an honor and looked forward to opening up at the beginning of each week. Charles leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 27 years, Bertha Sterling; and two daughters: Janice Nickeo and husband Patrick (aka Mahi) and Johanna Williams; one son, Tracy Gist; one granddaughter, Patshawna Nickeo; mother-in-law, Sallie Hackett; brother-in-law, Roy Hackett and wife Beverly all of Bedford; two sisters: Joyce Rutledge of Joliet, Ill., and Orelia Mobley of Bolingbrook, Ill.; two brothers: Gerald Sterling and wife Cindy of Lake Charles, La., and Davis Joseph Sterling Jr. of Virginia; four aunts: Nola, Agnes, Allie and Genieve of Lake Charles, La.; four uncles: Adam, John, Elliott and August of Lake Charles, La; 15 nieces and nephews; 21 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 29 great-great nieces and great-great-nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Jones — John Edward Jones, 89, Mitchell, passed away at 4:23 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 24, 1917, in Mitchell, he was the son of William and Lucille (Woodward) Jones. He married Jennie Rose Trinkle Oct. 12, 1940, and she preceded him in death Aug. 16, 2004. He retired from General Motors and was a member of UAW Local No. 440. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1937 and was a member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, Darwin Lee Jones and wife Donna of Linton, Randal Jones and wife Sherry of Mitchell and Ken Jones and wife Brenda of Sellersburg; a sister, Ruth Barnes, Knightstown; two brothers, Charles R. Jones, Mitchell, and Harold “Henny” Jones, Plainfield; grandchildren, Stacey, Troy, Brian, Greg, Corey, Matthew, Mark and Deana Jones; and seven great-grandchildren. Gerkin — Ilene Gerkin, 82, of Bedford, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Friday at the StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born on March 13, 1924, in Huron, she was the daughter of Jonathon Gerkin and Della (Thomas) Gerkin. She retired after 30 years from the Bedford National Bank where she worked in bookkeeping. She was a member of the Southland Church of Christ. Survivors include her brother Virgil Gerkin and wife Peggy of Shelburn; a sister, Helen Robinson and husband Jerry of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Jay, Clay, Lawrence, Dale and Cecil Gerkin; and three sisters, Ruth Dillman, Mae Dollar and Marie Jones. Stevens — Dorothy May “Dottie” Stevens, 68, Mitchell, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 8, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 7, 1938, in Louisville, Ky., she was the daughter of Charles Phillip Stevens and Emma (Kaufman) Sewell Stevens Hartman. She was a homemaker and a member of Jehovah’s Witness. Survivors include two daughters: Connie Kennedy, Brandenburg, Ky., and Dawn Scalf, Louisville, Ky.; four sons: Emory Dages, Jr., Doug Dages, Chris Dages and Mike Dages, all of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters: Patricia Wright, Louisville, Ky., and Frances Marian Mantooth, Mitchell; one brother, Charles Stevens, Mitchell; three half-sisters: Mary Ann Cissell, and Norma Jean Hartman, both of Louisville, Ky., and Judy Ann McCaslin, Cloverport, Ky.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Miller — Ella Dorothy Mayo Miller, 88, of Bloomington, formerly of Peerless Road in Bedford, died Wednesday at the Hospitality House in Bloomington. Born Sept. 6, 1918, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Everett and Mary (Sears) Mayo. She married Kelsie Eagans in 1934 and he preceded her in death. She married Donald Lee Miller in 1967 and he preceded her in death June 4, 1987. She was a homemaker and had worked at RCA. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters: Carolyn Butcher of Bloomington and Nancy Nolan of Odon; one son, John Eagans of Bedford; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands; five brothers: Donald Mayo, Roger Mayo, Ralph Mayo, Harold Mayo and Noble Mayo; two sisters: Lucille Johnson and Nellie Newlin; and two sons: Kelsie Eagans Jr. and Luther Eagans. Lee — Isabel M. Lee, 78, of Bedford, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at the I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis. Born February 26, 1928 in Great Falls, Mont., she was the daughter of Frank and Esther (Belote) Rodger. She married Olan D. Lee on April 15, 1959 in Hot Springs, Ark., and he preceded her in death in January 2002. She had been employed in quality control at Essex Corporation in Orleans and was a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Bedford. Survivors include two daughters: Barbara J. Ritchey and husband Roy of Hot Springs, Ark.; Nancy Kennedy of Billings, Mon.; three sons: William Bond and Roger Lee and wife Kathy, all of Bedford and Larry Lee and wife, Anita of Oolitic; three sisters: Joyce Bananto of Bedford, Louella Peterson of Fairfield, Mont., and Roxine Sutula of Erie, Penn.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Chris Kennedy; one sister, Delores Neumann; and one brother, William L. Rodger. Watts — Anna L. Watts, 84, 2212 J Street, Bedford, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born Dec. 4, 1922, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Cyrus and Carrie Bell (Speer) Mills. She married David G. Watts on Feb. 8, 1947 at Bedford, and he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, David G. Watts, Bedford; one son, Michael D. Watts, O.D., and wife Renita of Bedford; two granddaughters: Angela K. Watts and Kirstie A. Richardson — Horace Richardson, 93, of 1603 15th Street, Bedford, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday at the Hospitality House. Born December 12, 1913, in Bedford, he was the son of Charles H. and Elizabeth (Rariden) Richardson. He married Mary Black on April 25, 1937 and she survives. He was a retired vocational teacher at BNL High School in Bedford. He was a past director of the Boys Club and former director of the Parks Dept. for the City of Bedford. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Bedford Elks Lodge and the Otis Park golf course. Surviving with his wife, Mary, are two daughters: Jean Montavon and husband Bruce of Bedford and Janet Smallwood and husband Don of Delray Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren: Christy Surgeoner, Dan Smallwood, Beth Schindler, Amy Fuchs, Karen Johnson and Michael Montavon and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Stewart Richardson; one brother, Charles Richardson and one sister, Oneita Richardson. McPike — James E. “Pete” McPike, 85, of Bedford, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born April 5, 1921, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Roy D. and Nellie (Beyers) McPike. He married Floy Ann (Rich) and she preceded him in death. He later married Marjorie (Patterson) who survives. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in and around Italy during World War II. He retired from NSWC Crane. He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church and Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion. Cornwall — Betty Dorsett Cornwall, 79, Mitchell, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Friday at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born July 29, 1927, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Chester and Oma (Bridges) McCart. She married Robert L. Dorsett in 1942. Her second marriage was to Floyd A. Cornwall on Aug. 14, 1971, and he preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1996. She was formerly employed at General Electric and Ted’s Restaurant and was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Brown and Trudy Troutman, both of Mitchell; a brother, James Eugene McCart, Plainfield; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Her parents; husband; daughter, Connie Woods; son, Robert S. Born May 3, 1901, in Grayson County, Ky., she was the daughter of Aaron Thomas and Sally (Morrison) Dennison. She married Melvin Moser on June 24, 1920, at Hawesville, Ky., and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1977. She was the owner/operator (with her husband) of the Mitchell Pastry Shop in Mitchell for 15 years and also worked with the Green Thumb Program at Spring Mill State Park. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mitchell, the Women’s Missionary Circle and the Mitchell Senior Citizens. Survivors include one son, William Moser and wife Maxine of Laurinburg, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Thelma Thomas, Mitchell; 12 grandchildren: Susan Webster, Bedford; Mark Webster, Speedway; Treva Williams, Sharon Hensley and Tammy Horner, all of Tennessee; Sherri Moser, Scott Moser and Joey Moser, all of North Carolina; and Carol Moser, Peggy Owens, Anita Root and Debra Moser, all of Seymour; 18 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Foddrill — Tammara Lynn (King) Foddrill, 29, of 120 West Grissom Ave., Mitchell, died Saturday at her residence from injuries sustained in a house fire. Born March 7, 1977, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Michael R. King and Rhonda (Terry) Lipscomb. She married Myron Dale Foddrill on Aug. 16, 2006, and he survives. She attended the First Church of God in Mitchell. She was a member of the FOE Auxiliary 654. She worked at McDonald’s in Mitchell. Tammara will be remembered as a hero. She was a loving wife to Dale and she was the best mom in the world. She loved her kids and they loved her. Collins — Bert Collins passed away on Friday, which was the first anniversary of his wife’s death. He passed away at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. He was 88. Sullivan — Fred Allen Sullivan, 77, of 418 R Street, Bedford, died at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday at Select Hospital in Bloomington after a courageous battle with diabetes. Born Feb. 24, 1929, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Luther and Gertie (Silvers) Sullivan. He married Maxine Crooks on Feb. 24, 1955, and she survives. He had worked for Indiana Limestone Co. at the McMillan Mill for 22 years. He later worked as the business agent for the Operating Engineers Local No. 841 in Terre Haute for 15 years. He was also an auto mechanic. He was a member of the First Church of God, Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14 F & AM and the Operating Engineers Local No. 841. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Maxine of Bedford; two daughters, Debbie Smith and husband Dean, of Mitchell and Diane Brinson and husband Todd, of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Jason Houchin and girlfriend Stephanie and Jennifer Gerkin and husband Gary; eight great-grandchildren: Gage Webster, Valarie Ann Gerkin, Seth Houchin, Codey, Christopher, Keyra, Maggie and Shylyn Brinson; and one sister, Fannie Morehead of Lawrenceville, Ill. He was a retired rural letter carrier and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Born June 21, 1933, in Mitchell, he was the son of Chris R. and Dorothy G. (Williams) McCart. He married Oleta Brown on July 9, 1989, and she survives. He was a retired officer for the Bedford Police Department and a member of the Free Methodist Church in Bedford. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police # 94 and a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge for forty-six years. Bricker — Edna Bricker, 89, Bedford, died Sunday at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was a teacher for 31 years, retiring from Lincoln School in 1980, after teaching first grade there for 21 years. Survivors include her son, Ronald Bricker and wife Julie of Brazil; a sister, LaVaughn DeHon and husband Maurice of Vincennes; and three grandchildren: Stuart Bricker, Michael Bricker and Jessica Bricker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bricker; a son, Steven Bricker; and a sister, Ruth Althoff. She was born Edna Pearl Raney on Jan. 1, 1918, in Lawrenceville, Ill., and grew up in Vincennes, where she attended Vincennes University and obtained a teaching degree. She began her 31-year teaching career in the fall of 1938 in Knox County. She married Harold Bricker in 1941. Bricker received a BS degree in Education at Oakland City College and her master’s degree at Indiana University. She moved to Bedford in 1955. She had volunteered since 1969 with the Bedford Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, serving as the auxiliary’s first president. She served on the BRMC board of directors for over 12 years, from April 1979 until August of 1991, and as Board Foundation/Auxiliary Liaison from 1994 to 2002. She served on the North Lawrence Foundation Scholarship Committee for 15 years and on the board of the Lawrence County Community Concert Association for 12 years. She was active for many years in the First United Methodist Church, holding various offices in the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She also was active for ovr 25 years with her late husband in the local Power Squadron, which stressed boating safety. He served as commander and she was his first mate. She loved to travel, visiting all 50 states plus Canada, Mexico and Europe. She loved to spend time with friends and family, make crafts and attend church functions and concerts. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with the Rev. Tim Ahlemeyer officiating. He was co-owner with his first wife, Agatha, of Armstrong Furniture Village in Bedford for many years. Manns — The Rev. Leroy Manns, 59, of 1000 Grandma Brown Road, Mitchell, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday at his residence. Born August 2, 1947, in Williamsport, Ohio, he was the son of Harley Francis and Rowena (Houser) Manns. He married Elizabeth Smith on July 9, 1966. He was a member of the Faith Mission Church in Bedford. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth; one son, Douglas Manns and wife Melissa of North Carolina; two daughters, Cynthia Watters and husband Nathan of New Albany and Beth Manns and companion Ruth Anne Manns of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Ray, Clarence, Larry and Lester Manns; four sisters, Carolyn Cooper, Jean Elkins, Shirley Hayes and Donna Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. Barnett — George Elza Barnett, 87, of 721 23rd St., Bedford, died Thursday at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born June 15, 1919, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George Washington and Amanda Barnett. He married Joanna Fay Fultz on Dec. 20, 1939, and she survives. He was a truck driver for most of his working life. He retired from Crane. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Asiatic-Pacific Operations as a Seaman First Class aboard a cargo vessel as a gunner. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 Bedford and A.F.G.E. Union in Crane. Surviving with his wife Joanna are two sons, Terry Randall Barnett of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Monty Kay and Janni Barnett of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Adams of Danville, Ill. and Helen Spires of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters (in infancy). Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Scherschel. — Roy C. Scherschel, 88, Grand Island, Fla., previously of Bedford, died Wednesday at Waterman Hospital in Tavares, Fla. Born Sept. 24, 1918, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Fred P. and Clara (Diedrich) Scherschel. He first married Gladys Peggy Robbins on June 7, 1941, and she preceded him in death in July of 1991. He later married Joyce Woods on March 11, 1995, and she also preceded him in death. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1937. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus (3rd and 4th degrees) No. 1166, Bedford and Eagles Lodge No. 654 of Bedford. Survivors include two sons, Phil Scherschel of Bedford and Donald Scherschel of Mitchell; one daughter, Mary Carol Jackson of Finley, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Scherschel of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; one son, Kenneth Scherschel; three sisters, Virginia, Catherine and Ruth; and four brothers, Joe, Paul, Alfred and John Scherschel. She married Donald E. Strunk on July 21, 1956, and he preceded her in death on December 17, 1986. She worked for ARA and retired as the manager of the cafeteria at Central Foundry GM in Bedford.
