Juanita Sue Johnson, 69, of Bedford, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday at the StoneBridge Health campus.
Born, July 19, 1938, she was the daughter of Ollie and Mildred (Porter) Henry.
She was a homemaker.
She married Ivory Johnson on July 21, 1955, and he survives. She loved her children and all her grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in her many flower beds. She had a passion for writing poems and telling stories to all her grandchildren. Playing bingo, scrabble, card games, making crafts and fishing were some of her favorite hobbies. She was active and resided at StoneBridge Health campus and made many friends among the staff and other residents. Her humor will be greatly missed by all.
She had four children. James Edward Johnson preceded her in death. Surviving are: Teresa Lee (Johnson) Stevens, Judith Ellen (Johnson) Guthrie and Thomas Scott Johnson; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She has gone to heaven to be with her father; mother; sister, Mary Alice; son, James Edward; and one daughter-in-law, Harriet Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Jim Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Leatherwood Cemetery.

Ruth M. Ross, 79 of 481 Fayetteville-Owensburg Road, Bedford, died at 3:32 a.m. Tuesday at Garden Villa in Bedford.
Born Dec. 25, 1927, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of William N. and Lorenia (Reynolds) Eggers. She married Warner D. Ross on Sept. 27, 1952, and he died October 27, 1999.
Survivors include two daughters: Karen S. Ross and Sheila K. Taylor and husband Jerry, all of Bedford, three grandchildren: Brent Taylor and wife Heather, Jamie Gillihan and husband Toby, and Jared Taylor and wife Shanda; and four great-grandchildren: Jaylen Gillihan, Braxton Taylor, Clayton Taylor and Addison Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ray W. and Joseph Eggers.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Douglas Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in New Church Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Tracy Ellen (Goodman) Wolff, 45, of Bedford, died at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 4, 1961, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Myron Keith and Betty Jean (Sasser) Goodman.
She was a laborer for Local No. 741 and a member of Laborers Union Local No. 741.
Survivors include one daughter, Angel Eva Goodman of Bedford; one son, John Cecil Wolff of Bedford; her mother of Bedford; one sister, Melissa Hassler and husband Donald of Bedford; aunts and uncles: Alma and Kenneth Arthur, and Alben and Jonna Sasser; and cousins: Scott Sasser, Adam and Dana Sasser, Brooke Ritz, Sadie, Zachary, Isaiah Sasser and Emily Miller.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents, Cecil and Eva Sasser.

Richard D. McIntyre Sr., 51, 323 Hill Drive, Bedford, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at his residence.
Born Oct. 5, 1956, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Dean and Gayle (Perkins) McIntyre. He married Meredith Mettlen in Bloomington, Dec. 29, 1979, and she survives.
He was a judge, attorney, U.S. Army officer and a former state representative.
He was a State Judge Advocate and member of the Indiana State Bar Association; Indiana Judges Association; Indiana National Guard; American Legion Gillen Post No. 33; F.O.P. and St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Meredith McIntyre, Bedford; two sons: Richard D. McIntyre Jr. and wife Marisa of Vine Grove, Ky., and Robert David McIntyre of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Emily Lynne Turner and husband William of Indianapolis; one sister, Emily Hawkins and husband Randy of Bedford; and one nephew, Heath Hawkins, Louisville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Schafer Auditorium at Bedford Middle School, with Minister Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Olin V. Oliver, 87, of Oolitic died at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Garden Villa of Bedford.
Born March 10, 1920, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Fred and Martha (Hillenburg) Oliver. He married Mary Brafford on July 22, 1943, and she survives.
He was an Army veteran serving in World War II, a member of UAW Local No. 440 and was of the Protestant faith. He retired from General Motors after 31 years.
Surviving with the wife Mary are two sons: James Oliver and wife Kathy of Springville, and Dennis Oliver and wife Beverly of Pinhook; four grandchildren: Scott Oliver of Corydon, Todd Oliver of Florida, Andrea Rigsby of Illinois and Thomas Lane of Bedford; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Brian Lane; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Cresthaven Mausoleum with the Rev. Richard Tallman officiating. Burial will follow. Military rites will be accorded at the grave by the American Legion Honor Guard Gillen Post No. 33.

Mary L. Johnson, 94, Mitchell, formerly of Zypher Hills, Fla., passed away at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, at the residence of her granddaughter, Tammy Yoder.
Born May 2, 1913, in Trimble County, Ky., she was the daughter of William W. and Laura (Jackson) Lawrence. She married Fay Johnson Dec. 20, 1946, and he preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1997, in Dade City, Fla., after 51 years of marriage.
She was formerly employed at W.H. Block Company and was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Surviving are two children from a previous marriage: Jean Carolyn (Taylor) Manganello, Grand Junction, Colo., and Robert H. Taylor, Orleans; a sister, Sarah Duckworth, Wesley Chapel, Fla.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Her parents; husband; three brothers who served in both wars; and a great-grandson, Michael Yoder, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Port William Cemetery with Steve Steuer officiating.

Waldo Emerson Gill, 86, Mitchell, formerly of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 6:37 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Nov. 24, 1920, in Sturgis, Ky., he was the son of Huron Ray and Stella Agnes (Fishback) Gill. His paternal grandparents were William R. Gill, M.D., and Alice (Richey) Gill; maternal grandparents were Joseph and Melissa (Hopkins) Fischback; and paternal great-grandparents, Adolphus and Catherine Fischback.
He was a retired auto parts salesman and a member of Seven Mile Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.
Surviving are daughter, Carol Roop and husband Claude of Mitchell; a son, James Waldo Gill, Chattanooga, Tenn.; three grandsons; two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
His parents, brothers, John R., William, Charles, Tommy and Pete Ray Gill; and sister, Agnes Myers, preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. (CDT) today at Massac Memorial Gardens in Metropolis, Ill., with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 305, Metropolis, Ill.

Born March 9, 1930, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Opal and Leafy Agnes (Burton) White. He married Charlotte R. Mundy on March 2, 1951.
He retired from Carpenter Body Works with 42 years of service and was known as “Hog Jaw.” He graduated from Huron High School in 1949 and was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a Purple Heart recipient.

Born May 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Jeremiah and Maude Dessie (Bennett) Sego. She married Ernest Walter Fortner on May 27, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1993.
She was a homemaker and a long time member of the Free Methodist Church where she was also involved in the Merry Widows group. Alice was a charter member of the Bedford Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna Fortner Roberts of Bedford; one son, Ernest Michael Fortner of Oolitic; three grandsons, Michael Shannon Fortner and wife Donna and Stephen Howard Roberts all of Bedford and Timothy Scott Fortner and companion Jessica Emmons of Oolitic; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Shirley Gilstrap and husband George of Bedford; one brother Jerry Sego of Orlando, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Hildred Fortner Cobb of Tucson, Ariz. and Esther Fortner of Cape Cod, Mass; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles D. “Chuck” Pace, 67, Bedford, died Tuesday at Bloomington Hospital following a short illness.
Born April 28, 1940, in Bedford, he was the son of Clyde and Mabel (Davis) Pace.
Chuck served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
He was a line inspector and retired from General Electric in Bloomington. He also was a skilled carpenter and had been a builder. During his retirement years, Chuck enjoyed the simple pleasures of sitting on the front porch of their home with his wife, Dagmar, and enjoying their many cats (all of whom they had “adopted” as strays).
He dearly loved his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, Dagmar (Andersson) Pace; two sons: Eric Pace of Bedford and Major Kevin Pace and his wife Betsy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers: George Pace of Bedford and Harold “Gene” Pace of Bloomington; one sister, Phyllis Gilbert of Oolitic; grandchildren: Jonathan, Alysha, and Geoffrey of Bloomington, and Kirsten, Sierra, and Heidi of Colorado Springs; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clyde Pace Jr.; and one sister, Alice Cronin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford, with Pastor Paul Neuman officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Robert M. Way, 77, Bedford, died at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, at Garden Villa in Bedford.
He was a forklift driver for General Motors for 31 years, retiring in 1978. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include four daughters: Bonnie Craig, Bedford, Sheila Reef, Mitchell, Vicki McPike, Springville, and Fran Michelle Chastain, Bedford; one son, Robert A. Lipscomb
Donald Allen Lipscomb, 76, died Sunday at Valle Vista Hospital in Greenwood.
Don was a Christian for many years and was a member of the Heltonville Baptist Church. He lived with his family, then T.S.I in Mitchell, The Simpson House in Bedford and later at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.
Don was with Stonebelt and L.A.R.C for 21 years. He was in the Special Olympics and won several awards in bowling.
He is survived by two brothers: Adarian Lipscomb and wife Jane of Champaign, Ill., and David Lipscomb and wife Phyllis of Heltonville; three sisters: Phyllis Janes and husband Bruce, Patricia Martin and husband Wesley and Karen Fleetwood and husband Dean, all of Heltonville; also three nephews, five nieces, five great-nephews; six great-nieces; and two great-great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Lora Lee (McDonle) Lipscomb; two brothers: Robert and Wilard Lipscomb; four sisters: Margaret Eddington, Rozella, Wilma and Joan Lipscomb; one nephew, Steve Martin; one niece, Joan Fitzgerald; and two brothers-in-law: Herold Eddington and Paul Fitzgerald.
Don had a circle of loving family and friends.

Born November 15, 1921 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Volney and Grace (Hall) Kern. She married James Harold Brock on July 10, 1944, and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of Old Union Christian Church. She was a volunteer at the Hoosier Christian Village and a member of NARFE.
Survivors include two daughters, Myra Nicholson and Mona Cobb both of Bedford; two sons, Jimmie and Kenny Brock both of Bedford; a sister, Mabel Henderson of Bedford; a brother, Olin Kern of Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Waldo and Alan Kern; and two grandchildren, Toni and Chris.

Hubert R. "Chappie" Chapman, 82, Bedford, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at Bloomington Hospital.
Born April 11, 1925, in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, he was the son of Noel and Lucy (Rymer) Chapman. He was first married to Virginia Lawrence and then married Emily C. (Hicks) Miller and she preceded him in death December 23, 1994.
He was a farmer and a retired security guard.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

She was born Oct. 4, 1946 in Lawrence County to Lloyd and Etta Faye (Hall) Meadows. She married Stephen Cronin Aug. 14, 1968 in Bedford, and he survives.
She was librarian at Dollens Elementary School at Oolitic. She was a graduate of Bedford High School and attended Indiana University at Bloomington. She was a member of Oolitic United Methodist Church.
Surviving with the husband, are a son, Derek Cronin of Starkville, Miss.; two daughters; Mrs. Jill Cronin Silvers and husband, John and Mrs. Angie Blanton and husband Travis, both of Bloomington; a grandson, Reid Silvers; four granddaughters: Madison and Bailey Silvers, Taylor and Katie Blanton; and a sister, Mrs. Brenda McGregor and her husband Don of Clarksville.

Surviving with the wife, are a daughter, Jolene Roberts; grandsons; Bryan E. Roberts and Dayne D. Roberts; half sister-in-law, Mary Lou Craig: nieces and nephews: Leora Hanners Rice and Marcia Hanners MacElfresh, both of Brownstown, Carol Kopp Allen, Carmel, Tim Todd, Martinsville, Janet Hawkins, Warren Kopp and Jon Scott Dodds, all of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Ethel (Blackburn) Dodds, a brother, Paul Dodds, a sister-in-law, Velma Dodds and nephew, Jon Dodds.

Born November 20, 1919 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Elijah Tumey and Ethel (Mitchell). She was a secretary from 1959 to 1989 at Needmore School and was a member of the Gulletts Creek Baptist Church. She married Roy Franklin in September 1941 and he preceded her in death in April 1992.
Surviving are three sons; Mike Franklin and his wife, Sue of Bloomington, IN; Benny Franklin and his wife, Rita of Springville, IN and Ed Franklin and his wife, Connie of Springville, IN; six grandchildren: Karen Jackson, Valerie Imler, Brian and Brad Frankin, Doug Franklin and Jodi Davis; six great-grandchildren: Luke, Logan and Noah Jackson, Alexis Imler, Nick Franklin and Samanatha Franklin; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers: Dariel Mitchell, Coval Tumey, Morris Tumey, Willard Tumey, Carroll Tumey and one step broher, Vstal Tumey.

Born on November 27, 1917 in Bedford, IN she was the daughter of Albert A. Medaugh and Minnie (King) Medaugh. She was a housewife, member of the Free Methodist Church, American Association of Retired Persons, Women’s Missionary Society and the Bedford Medical Center Auxiliary and a graduate from Bedford High School in 1935. She married Walden C. Jones on November 27, 1935 and he died on July 2, 1977.

Born February 3, 1918, in Martin Co., she was the daughter of Isaac and Eva (Stroud) Wade. She first married Irvin Hicks. She later married Gilbert Hawkins, and they both preceded her in death. Dessie was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Wilcox of Bloomington, Evelyn Pruett and her husband, Roy, of Bedford, Carolyn Pruett and her husband, Danny, and Anita Hamilton, all of Bedford; two sisters, Ola Morrow and Victorine Rollman, both of Bedford; one brother, Harley Wade of Bedford; ninteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Richard Dale Hawkins, MD, 84, died on Friday, October, 12, 2007, at the Stone Bridge Health Campus in Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Hobart and Sally (Harrell) Hawkins, and by three sisters: Norma Wagner, Phyllis Lewis and Mary Marrow.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Jean (Hall) Hawkins, two sisters: Georgia Israel and Betty Kirkman; four children: Karen Weaver (Bill) of Birmingham, AL; Drew Hawkins (Peggy) of Greenwood, IN; Penny Hawkins Taylor of Carmel, IN, and Bret Hawkins (Barbara) of Bedford; eight grandchildren: Emily Weaver Johnson, Derek Weaver, Bret David Hawkins, Lawrence Taylor, Jr., Rachel Stiffler, Erin Taylor, Kate Hawkins, and Mary Hawkins, and five great-grandchildren: Aidan and Asher Weaver, Owen Johnson, Grant Hawkins and Brakston Taylor.
Dr. Hawkins began his education at Edwards one-room schoolhouse in Marshall Township. He attended Needmore High School, graduated in 1940 from Bedford High School, and in 1943 from DePauw University, which he attended on a Rector Scholarship. In 1946, he graduated magna cum laude from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, and was inducted into AOA medical student honor society. Following an internship and residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, he served in the military as base pediatrician at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Following that, he practiced pediatrics at Wharton, TX, while he also taught in the Department of Pediatrics at the Baylor College of Medicine (1949-51), and practiced in Biloxi, MS (1951-54). He returned to Bedford in 1954, where he practiced for over 25 years. In 1958, he and four other Bedford physicians founded the Edgewood Clinic, and he was instrumental in the creation in 1970 of Bedford Medical Center (BMC), becoming president of its board of directors. He also served as a consultant with Gilligan and Associates of Peoria, IL, where he was involved in the planning and construction of health care facilities in Indiana, Ohio, Florida, and New Jersey. In 1977, he became the Executive Director of the Edgewood Clinic and in 1991, took on the additional position of CEO of BMC. In 1994, he became the CEO when BMC became Bedford Regional Medical Center and remained in that position until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford, where he taught the Mary and Lazarus Sunday School class for many years and served over the years as a deacon and a member of various committees, including Pulpit, Pledge, and Building Committees. In addition to his family and church, his other interests included fishing, community, flying (private pilot), vacationing with family, and Bedford, BNL and IU basketball.
Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, October 15th, and from 11:00 until 1:00 on Tuesday, October 16th, at the First Baptist Church (Washington Avenue and 20th Street). The funeral will be at the church at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 16th, with Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery.

Born March 19, 1933, in East Oolitic, the oldest of fourteen children, he was the son of Orval Oliver and Goldie (Swartz) Blackwell.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman’s Club. Norman enjoyed hunting and fishing. He hosted a catfish fry for family and friends each Labor Day. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include five sisters: Bonnie Watson and husband Charles of East Oolitic, Carol Holtsclaw and husband Jerry of Oolitic, Brenda Rhorer and husband Fred of Indianapolis, Wilma Wikle and husband Terry and Rita VanDeventer and husband Willard all of Bloomington; seven brothers: Clovis Oliver of Bloomington, John Oliver of Cypress, Texas, Gary Oliver of Humble, Texas, James Oliver of Houston, Texas, Dallas and Steve Oliver both of Bedford and Kevin Blackwell of Bedford.

He was owner/operator of Chopper’s Auto Cleaning. He was a member of the American Legion in Mitchell.

Thomas P. “Big Buddy” Neill, 59, of Bedford, died at 3:58 a.m. Sunday.at the Bloomington Hospital after a short illness.
Born November 3, 1947, in Greene County, he was the son of Marvin and Jacqueline (MacIntosh) Neill. He married Sandi (Johnson) Collins (to whom he gave the pet name of “Angel”) on May 2, 1977, and she survives.
He was self-employed. For 18 years, Tom was a faithful volunteer at the Parkview Primary Preschool Class of Marsha Mathews. He loved all children and was a very special friend to them and their families and all kids loved him. He was a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Tom appreciated and loved his multitude of good friends and family.
Surviving with Sandi, his wonderful wife of 30 years, are three stepsons: Robert Jr. Collins and Dusty Collins both of Bedford and James “Jay” Collins of Bloomington; six grandchildren; three brothers: Jim, Kenny and Joe Neill all of Bloomington; one sister, Edna Wildman of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Lou Brewer.
A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Parkview Primary School, 1701 Brian Lane Way, Bedford, with Pastor Joe Nelson, Brother Charles Deckard, Sari Wood and Larry Summerton speaking. The family would especially like to invite all of “Big Buddy’s” children and their families to attend.
