Cummings – Doyle L. “Sonny” Cummings of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 31, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born February 22, 1946, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of James and Ruth (Cummings) Cummings.
Surviving are his mother, Ruth Cummings of Bedford, IN; two sons, Steven Cummings and Stacey Cummings, both of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren, Theron, Terra and Trace Cummings, all of Bedford, IN; one brother, Dennis Cummings and his wife Norma of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Diane Simmerman and her husband Ron and Darlene Fish and her husband Rodney, all of Bedford, IN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
He was a supervisor at G.M. Powertrain in Bedford, retiring in 2000 after 34 years of service. He also managed the Bedford Airport for the last 14 years. He was a graduate of Heltonville High School with the class of 1963; a member of U.A.W. Local No. 440 in Bedford; Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPC); and Short Wing Piper Association.
There will be no funeral service. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home of Bedford. Memorial contributions may be considered to Lawrence County Patient Services or to the American Cancer Society.
Torphy – Jack T. Torphy of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 31, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born July 3, 1930, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Floyd and Lelah (Pearl) Torphy. He married Phyllis Hamilton on April 26, 1957, and she died in 1996.
Surviving are his beloved companion, Norma Bagby of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Suzanne Terry and her husband, Michael, of Bedford, IN; one grandson Matthew Terry of Bedford, IN; one granddaughter, Erin Terry of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Dave Torphy and Jim Torphy, both of Bedford, IN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Michael Torphy, in 1995 and one brother, Patrick Torphy.
He was a retired engineering technician for NWSC CRANE and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S. Epperson and U.S. Hansen from 1951 to 1955. He was a service officer for the Lawrence County Veterans and a member of the Gillen Post No. 33, American Legion, where he had served as a past commander and chaplain. He was currently the Chef de Gar of the Voiture No. 1192, 40 & 8, and a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman's Club and the Bedford Elks Lodge. Jack was an organ donor and felt it important to urge others to do the same.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Gillen Post No. 33, American Legion. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the 40 & 8 Scholarship Fund or the American Legion Scholarship Fund.

Bell – Helen Pauline Bell of Mitchell, IN, died Friday December 30, 2005 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born November 12, 1919, in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of Chris Dowden and Erma M. (White) Spoonmore. She married Omer Eugene Bell on May 23, 1946, and he died on November 9, 1982.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joan Phipps of Bedford, IN, and Mrs. Pauline M. Sanders of Pensacola, FL; three sons: Larry Phillips of Springville, IN, Willard E. Bell of Mitchell, IN, and Ralph Wayne Bell of Bedford, IN; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and two grandchildren, Eric, and John.
She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bedford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 3rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Doyle Wayne Phipps, and Bro. Darrell Simon officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Tuesday.
Fender – Barbara J. Fender, 71, of Bedford, died Friday at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born August 4, 1934.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Adams of Ellettsville, IN, and Jenny Smith of Bedford, IN; one son, Danny Mills; and two brothers, Charles Jerrells of Shoals, IN, and David Jerrells of Springville, IN.
She was a homemaker.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will be at Judah Cemetery. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
King – Melvin L. King of Bedford, IN, died December 30, 2005, after an extended battle with cancer. Born November 18, 1932, in Beaton, AK, he was the son of Curtis and Gertrude Diffie King, He married Carolyn Sue Pace on December 26, 1975, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife of 30 years are one son, Ronald L. King (Melissa); one daughter, Donna C. Summers (Billy); grandchildren: Andrew B. King (Teresa Slinkard), Brittany N. Pruett (Louie); two great-grandchildren, Alexis C. Terrell and Annason N. King; and sisters Iva M. Salmon (Richard), Eva M. Werner (Gene), and Shirlene J. Sellers. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tiffany C. Summers Terrell, and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Rae Terrell.
Melvin graduated from Malvern High School in Arkansas and served as a M.P. in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of corporal.Mr. King worked as a machinist for General Motors, formerly Central Foundry, for 33 years, retiring June 30, 1987. He was a 40-year member of Fayetteville Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 3rd, at 1:00 p.m. at Fayetteville Baptist Church, 5485 Ind. 158, Bedford, IN. Friends may call Monday, January 2, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville Baptist Church Youth Group. Roberts – Loren E. (John) Roberts of Bedford, IN, died Friday, December 30, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born May 24, 1934, he was the son of Olin and Ethel (Colvin) Roberts. He married Georgia M. Robbins on May 21, 1955, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are one son Brent Roberts and his wife Trina of Sullivan, IN ; and one daughter Brenda Wilson and her husband Gerald of Columbus, IN; five grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and one sister Barbara Roberts of Noblesville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, one great grandchild; and two sisters, Roberta Hougland and Virginia George.
He retired as maintenance supervisor at Bedford North Lawrence High School. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Gooch – Martha Larue Stribling Gooch of Bedford, IN, died December 27, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born Feb. 11, 1928, in Carthage, MS, she was the daughter of the late T.G. and Lillian (Hardage) Stribling. She married John Gooch Sr., and he survives.
Surviving with her husband of 59 years are one son, John Gooch Jr. and wife Vivian, of Madison, MS; two daughters, Martha “Cissie” Sanford of Benton, LA, and Mary Ellen Ware of Bedford, IN; one brother, J.H. “Pete” Stribling of Jackson, MS; nine grandchildren: Stephen Turgi, Beth Parks, Kae Johnson, B.J. Sanford, Sarah McCrary, Michael Ware, Robert Sanford, Leigh Ann Gooch and Sunny Kathryn Gooch; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ann Moore; and one grandson, Spencer Gooch.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City, MS, with Pastor Danny Williams officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
Roberts – L. Dale Roberts of Bedford, IN, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital in Bloomington. Born July 7, 1917 in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Bill and Birdie Mae (Cobb) Roberts. He married Wilma Maxine Corbin and she died on June 6, 2001.
Surviving are two sons, Riley Roberts and his wife, Dianne of Oolitic, IN, and Ronnie Roberts and his wife, Marsha of Silverville, IN; six grandchildren: Scott Roberts of Williams, IN, Todd Roberts of Fayetteville, IN, Misty Adams and her husband, Steve of Bedford, IN, Kelly Leveque and her husband, David of Needmore, IN, Jim Ragsdale and his wife, Candy of Oolitic, IN, Robbie Atchison of Phoenix, AZ; seven great grandchildren: Cody Roberts, Elizabeth Leveque, Dianda Roberts, Casey Roberts, Josh Leveque, Alex Adams and Avery Adams. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Ernie, Willie, Junior and one in infancy; and two sisters, Zella Harp and Rosa Hodges.
He retired after thirty-five years at NWSC CRANE and a member of Old Union Christian Church, NARFE and AFGE.

Short – Roy Eugene Short of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born April 1, 1922, in Bedford, he was the son of Walter and Katie (Tumey) Short. He married Marjorie Browning on Feb. 8, 1947, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Brett Short of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Sandy Landreth and husband, Jeff, of Bedford, IN; granddaughters: Crystal Smalley and husband D.C. of Pittsburgh, PA, and Stacy Landreth of Bedford, IN; grandson, Dayton Landreth of Bedford, IN; brother, Jerald Short of Cordry Lake, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; one grandson, Tom Canada; three sisters: Coleta Fielder, Thora Hutton and Mary Cotner; and one brother, Walter Short.
He was a retired stonecutter who worked at Indiana Limestone of Oolitic and Hoosier Cut Stone of Bedford, and had served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Oolitic and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 of Bedford.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 30th, at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Elder Michael Short officiating. Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Albietz – Florence G. Albietz of Bedford, IN, died Monday, December 26, 2005 at Westview Manor. Born July 17, 1908 in Jackson County, she was the daughter of James and Bertie (Harris) Bennett. She married Burns Albietz and he died in 1987.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Albietz of Bedford, IN; Wilbur Albietz of Lutz, FL; Don Albietz of Cloverdale, IN; one daughter, Doris Tucker of Brownsburg, IN; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.
No calling or services are scheduled. The body will be cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Pershing – Wanda Pershing of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, December 25, 2005, at the Bloomington Hospital. Born on February 10, 1932, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Leathel J. and May (Mark) Hobson. She married Charles T. Pershing on June 9, 1950 and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are two daughters: Sheila Thompson and her husband, Jim of Columbus, IN, Gwendolyn L. Pershing of Bloomington, IN; two sons: C. Thomas Pershing and his wife, Dana of Alabama, and Alan Pershing of Bloomington, IN; five grandchildren: Jennie R. Thompson Griffin and her husband, Greg, Kevin A. Thompson and his wife, Ronelle, and Michael C. Thompson, all of Columbus, IN, and Sarah M. Pershing and Katherine M. Pershing both of Alabama. Three great-grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler and Kloe Thompson all of Columbus, IN; two brothers: Warren Hobson and his wife, Mildred of Mitchell, IN, Ken Hobson and his wife, Mary of Illinois; one sister: Mary Jane Davison and her husband, Mike of Maryland; several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Wilma Lassen; brother-in-law, George Lassen; sister-in-law Marilyn Hobson; and one great-grandson, Joshua Thompson.
She was a homemaker and worked at Nathan Hale Gift Shop and H. & R. Block.

Tolbert – Marcella Jean (Collins) Tolbert of Bedford, IN, died Sunday Dec. 25, 2005, at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born July 6, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Alfred and Ora (Flinn) Collins. She married Arthur Tolbert in Bedford on Oct. 7 1967, and he died on Feb. 8, 1980.
Surviving are two sons, Steven Lee Webb and Robert K. Webb and wife, Elaine, all of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Lori Kast and Steven K. Webb; seven great-grandchildren: Dustin Webb, Stephanie Webb, Amber Kast, Grace Kast, Samantha Kast, Timmy Webb and Tiara Webb. She was preceded in death by her husband, and one daughter, Judith A. Douglas.
She retired as Office Administrator for Commonwealth Insurance and was a 1944 graduate of Shawswick High School. She was a member of the Southland Church of Christ.

Pruitt – Theresa Marie Pruitt of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 24, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born June 3, 1949, in Perry County, IN, she was the daughter of James B. and Agnes (Cassidy) Basinger. She married Charles E. Pruitt on July 13, 1968, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Donna Clark and her husband Kenneth of Bedford, IN; two granddaughters, Brittany Pruitt and Kayla Clark; two grandsons, Levi Clark and Logan Pruitt; one step-grandson, Josh Clark; two step-great-grandchildren, Grace Mundy and Braxton Clark; two sisters, Mary Lucas and Dora Caraway, both of Bedford, IN; and three brothers: Louis Basinger of Shawswick area, Frank Basinger of Bedford, IN, and Johnny Basinger of Heltonville, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jimmy Basinger.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the St. Vincent's DePaul Catholic Church.

Dorsett – Rickey D. Dorsett of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at his residence. Born April 16, 1946, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Gilbert and Irene (McNeely) Dorsett.
Surviving are children: Keely Armstrong of Orleans, IN, Eric L. Dorsett of Paoli, IN, Adam Dorsett, of Mitchell, IN, and Heather Hughes of Bedford, IN; one sister, Vickey (Susie) Lancaster of Palm Desert, CA; brothers, Mike Dorsett and his wife, Sue, of Bedford, IN, and Bob Dorsett and his wife, Virginia, of Pollok, TX; one sister-in-law, Pauline Dorsett, of Lawrenceport, IN; and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Mary Lou Case and Beverly Ann Earl; and brother, William R. "Buss" Dorsett.
He had been employed at Regal Beloit and the Lawrence County Highway Department. A 1965 graduate of Mitchell High School, he had participated in track and football and was named All-State Full Back and All Conference in football. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, at Lawrenceport Cemetery with Chaplain Lee Hupp officiating. Graveside military rites will be accorded by Cecil C. Strange – Alice Strange of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, December 22, 2005, at her residence. Born March 16, 1962, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer Strange and Wilma (Martin) Strange.
Surviving are her parents: Elmer Strange and Wilma Strange of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, David Strange and Scott Strange, both of Mitchell, IN; two sisters: Phyllis Payton and Janet Curtsinger, both of Mitchell, IN; and 26 nieces and nephews.
She was a caregiver for her parents and attended First Church of the Nazarene in Mitchell.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 27th, at Haverly Mortuary iwith the Rev. Mark Bechtel officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. until the service time on Tuesday.

Browning – Roy F. Browning of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born July 3, 1931, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Fred and Catherine Mattingly Browning. He married Mary Lou Uksas July 3, 1976, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are a son, William Browning of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Cindy Gruener of Bradenton, FL, and Roiann Browning of Mitchell, IN; and a granddaughter, Jessica Gruener of Bradenton, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from the Navy in 1972. He was a lifetime member of Mitchell VFW, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and Mitchell American Legion Post #250.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 23rd, at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Graveside rites will be accorded by Mitchell American Legion and burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday. at the funeral home.

Ira – Mary F. Ira of Bedford, IN, died Monday, December 19, 2005 at Mitchell Manor in Mitchell, IN. Born August 23, 1920 in Loogootee, IN, she was the daughter of William Ross and Elizabeth Ellen (Smith) Dillon. She married Cecil Potts and he died in 1980. She later married William Ira, Jr. on April 11, 1993, and he survives. She retired from General Motors in Bedford and was a member of the First Assembly of God and U.A.W. Local #440.
Surviving with her husband are four sons: Dan Potts of Bloomington, IN, Ed Potts of Bedford, IN, Ron Potts of Mitchell, IN, and Arthur Potts of Springville, IN; one daughter, Marie Garron of Bradenton, FL; step-children, Frank Ira of Bedford, IN, Nancy Arthur of Springville, IN, Rosanna Roach of Bedford, IN, and Remona Koop of Texas; two sisters, Bernice Bauer of Bedford, IN, and Mae Colvin of Loogootee, IN; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband; two daughters, Pauline Wilson and Deloris (in infancy); two brothers, John Dillon and Raymond Elmer Dillon.

Cobb – Carol Cobb of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 17, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 31, 1941.
Surviving are three daughters: Jamie, Katrina and Lavetta; a brother, Jack Higgins of Florida, a half-brother, David Higgins of Logansport, IN; and a half-sister, Donna Sue Honeycutt of Indianapolis.
She was disabled and of the Protestant faith.

Hardman – Barbara Ann Phillips of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, December 16, 2005, at StoneBridge Health Campus, Bedford. Born March 30, 1926, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of William Henry and Hazel Ann (McNeely) Harrison, Sr. She married Edward Phillips January 7, 1955, and he preceded her in death June 24, 1990.
Surviving are children: Patrick J. Phillips and his wife, Cathy, of New Albany, IN, Steve M. Phillips and his wife, Donna, of Orleans, IN, Tim Phillips of Menifee, CA, Pam Grimes and her husband, Bill, John (Jake) Phillips, and Kris Grissom and her husband, Jeff, all of Mitchell, IN; twin brother, William H. Harrison, Jr., of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Betty Fields, of Orleans, IN; 13 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Brown – Juanita J. Brown of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, December 15, 2005, at Westview Manor, Bedford. Born Sept. 19, 1930, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Wayne and Faye (Matthews) Marshall. She first married Wayne Canada and he preceded her in death. She married William R. Brown on Aug. 19, 1972, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Frank Canada and his wife Kathy of Bedford, IN, and Michael D. Canada of Bedford, IN; one stepdaughter, Crystal Mitchell of Mitchell, IN; four granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Nelda Canada of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy and Nick Canada; one sister; three brothers; and two grandsons, Johnny and Tommy Canada.
She had worked as a nurse's assistant at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was of the Protestant faith.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 20th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Hardman – Marie L. Hardman of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, December 15, 2005, at White River Lodge, Bedford. Born November 11, 1914, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Oscar and Ethel (Pruett) Johnson. She married Fred L. Hardman July 6, 1933, and he died July 24, 1972.
Surviving are sons, David Hardman of Bedford, IN, and Richard Hardman of Fairmont, IL; one daughter, Beth Hardman of Indianapolis; 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband; twin sister, Mary Johnson White, and Martha Jane Coleman.
She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1933 and had been employed more than 50 years at Mendenhall's Jewelry. She was a member of the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Gamma Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa, Lawrence County Art Guild, Dixie Club, and a former member of Fleur de Lis.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18th, in the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church with Pastor Margaret Pruden and John Hardman officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Staggs – Nina Staggs of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 7, 1912, in Reed Station, IN, she was the daughter of John B. and Ella Rose (Williams) Jones. She first married Joseph Emerson Schultz. She married Vernon Staggs in 1945 and he died in 1965.
Surviving are one sister, Mary Sigler of Mooresville, IN; six sons: William Schultz of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Jack Schultz of Belmont, OH, Roger Keith Schultz of Bedford, IN, Ron Staggs of Bedford, IN, Lannie Staggs of Bedford, IN, and Claude Michael Staggs of Indianapolis; five daughters: Barbara Webb of Campbellsburg, IN, Mary Catherine Ball of Bedford, IN, Karon Archer of Mitchell, IN, Sandy Williams of Mitchell, IN, and Jennifer Hendricks of Indianapolis; 38 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God.

Turpin – Virgil L. Turpin of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at his residence. Born June 15, 1936, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Everett E. and Lula (Swigler) Turpin. He married Mary Lou Speer on July 17, 1954, and she survives.
Surviving with the wife are four sons: James Edward Turpin and his wife Pat of Texas, Ronald Wayne Turpin and his wife, Cinnamon of Paoli, IN, Jeffrey Dale Turpin of Bedford, IN, and Virgil Dean Turpin and his wife Kesa of Indianapolis; two daughters, Tricia Lewis and her husband, Philip of Mitchell, IN, and Diattra Cook and her husband Mark of Bedford, IN; one brother Jesse E. Turpin of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Barbara Hauser of Pennsylvania, Patsy Terrill and Phyllis Johnson, both of Heltonville, IN; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Denise Lynn; and one sister, Linda Johnson.
He was employed with Carpenter Union #1664 where he retired. He was a member of the Eagles #664, American Legion #33 and the Bedford Boat Club. He served in the U.S. Army.

Fish – Ethel M. Fish of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born October 1, 1918, in Lyons, IN, she was the daughter of Herbert and Mary E. (Brock) Baker. She married Leonard Fish on January 29, 1938, and he died August 13, 1966.
Surviving are three grandchildren: Christopher Fish of Bedford, IN, Cindy Combs of Florida, and David Andrew Fish, serving with the U.S. Navy in Virginia; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Sipes of Linton, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, David H. Fish on Oct. 6, 2005; one brother and two sisters.
She was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and was of the Protestant faith.

Kern – Paul R. Kern of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born June 2, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Kern. He married Edna Iola Benefield in Bartow, Fla., on March 17, 1946, and she survives.
Surviving with the wife are one son, Raymond Kern of Bedford, IN; and one daughter, Paula Teague and her husband, Kenneth, of Bedford, IN, and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Wilma, Katherine and Ilene; and two brothers, Arthur and Dale.
He was the comptroller for the Bedford and Bloomington newspapers for 44 years and was also a public accountant. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, the Lawrence County Aviation Board as member and chairman during 33 years and was a past member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 and served on the Bedford Planning Commission.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 16th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Sullivan – Major John G. Sullivan of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, December 10, 2005, at his residence. Born August 21, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William and Josie (Melvin) Sullivan. He married LouEtta Milligan June 18, 1955, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are children: Judith Harrington and her husband, Mark, Daniel Sullivan and his wife, Dana, all of Omaha, NE, Deborah Drumm and her husband, Al, and Marc Sullivan and his wife, Lorie, all of Davenport, IA; three brothers: Joe Sullivan, Bill Sullivan, and Tom Sullivan, all of Bedford, IN; eight sisters: Mary D. Armond, Shirley Courter, Helen Good, Lois Ritter, Rhea Dawn Hayes, Marilyn Sullivan, all of Bedford, IN, Carol Manual, of Austin, IN, and Ruth Ann Cain, of Solsberry; 9 grandchilden, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Orville Smith
He and his wife were Salvation Army officers for 40 years. They began in 1960, retired in June, 2000, and returned to the Mitchell-Bedford area.

Shelton – Ruby I. Shelton of Bedford, IN, died Friday, December 9, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born May 23, 1925, in Salem, IN, she was the daughter of Orville Lessig and Julia Ann (Cole) Lessig. She married Gerald “Bud” Shelton on December 13, 1942 and he died on May 3, 1996.
Surviving are five sons: Chester Shelton and his wife, Ursula of Bedford, IN, Arnold Shelton of Bedford, IN, Jerry Shelton and his wife, Jackie of Mitchell, IN, Steve Shelton and his wife, Sandra of Shoals, IN, and Jim Shelton and his wife, Linda of Mitchel, IN; one daughter: Sheila Shelton of Bedford, IN; a close personal friend: Diana Hudson of Bedford, IN; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Leroy Lessig of Mitchell, IN, and Roy Lessig of Sarasota, FL; one sister: Janet Miller of Illinois and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Richard, Michael, Harold “Woody” and Perry Lessig and six sisters: Maxine Waterson, Norma Jean Chastain, Judy Lessig, Josephine Henson and twin sisters in infancy.
She was a homemaker.

Hatfield – Helen J. Hatfield of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born October 16, 1924 in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William and Roxie (Williams) Hatfield.
Surviving are one brother, Jake Hatfield and his wife, Frannie of Bedford, IN; one brother-in-law, Farrell Hayes of Springville, IN; three nieces: Carol Bush and her husband, Danny, and Sally Hutton and her husband, Rick, all of Springville, IN, and Susie Hayes and her husband, Craig Striepe of Florida; two nephews, John Hayes and his wife, Delilah of Springville, IN, and Ed Hayes of Bedford, IN; two great nieces; eight great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; one great-great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Elizabeth Hayes.
She retired as a secretary at NLCS and was a member of the Old Union Christian Church.

Farrell – Mary J. Farrell of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born March 3, 1932, in Mount Vernon, KY, she was the daughter of Elmer W. Stephens and Beulah Catherine McClure. She married James P. Farrell June 3, 1978, in Bloomington, IN, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are three daughters: Vicky J. Lawson of Ninevah, IN, and Terry Moore, Kelly Rudd and husband, Marc, of Nashville, IN, and Cindy Endris and husband, Stan of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester Stephens and wife, Judy of Franklin, IN, and two sisters: Jean Shank and husband, Russell, of Franklin, IN, and Betty Donoho of Whiteland, IN. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Stephens, and one sister, Martha Cheek
She was a homemaker and painting contractor for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Kenny Keller Bowling League and Happy Travelers..

McPike – Janet Sue (Duncan) McPike of Heltonville, IN, died Monday, December 5, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 16, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of John and Marie Duncan. She was married to John Curtis McPike for 54 wonderful years before he preceded her in death in March of this year.
Surviving are two sons, John D. McPike and wife, Terri, of Mitchell, IN, and Robert W. McPike and wife, Tina, of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Sharon L. Crane and husband Benjamin F. Crane Jr. of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Jean Huddleston and husband, Jim, of Florida and Judy Holzer and husband, Rod, of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren: Nick McPike and wife Nichole, Kortni Spinks and husband, Neal, Jessica Kern and husband, Dustin, Daniel Crane and life companion, Doris Brown, Sarah Arp and husband, Samuel, Kaleb McPike and Kylie Erdolino and husband, Brian; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.

Wigley – Roy Wigley, Sr. of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, December 5, 2005, at StoneBridge Health Campus, Bedford. Born June 3, 1918, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William Hugh And Ida Belle (Terry) Wigley. He was first married to Viola Brock and then married Myrtie C. (Creech) DeWeese August 31, 1957, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Gloria Pridemore and her husband, Donald, of Mitchell, IN; one son, Phillip Wigley and his wife, Karen, of Mitchell, IN; 15 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; three sons: Roy W. Wigley, Jr., Terry Wilson Wigley, and Jerry N. Wigley; stepdaughter, LaVerne J. DeWeese; sisters, Minnie G. Todd and Mabel Cleveland; brothers, Harry B. Wigley, William J. Wigley, and Emory D. Wigley; and granddaughter, Susan Ellis.
He retired from Indiana Natural Gas and was a member of Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church and a life member of Fraternal Order of Police.

Terrell – Edith M. Terrell of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, December 4, 2005, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born January 24, 1922, in Anderson County, KY, she was the daughter of Nevel and Osie (Moore) Coulter. She married R. C. Terrell December 9, 1939, and he died August 23, 1984.
Surviving are sons, Robert Terrell and wife, Linda of Mitchell, IN, Mike Terrell and wife, Judy of Orleans, IN, Roger Terrell and wife, Brenda of Bedford, IN, Leon Terrell and wife, Starlyn, and Mark Terrell and wife, Shirley, all of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Hazel Terrell of Orleans, IN; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, John and Royston "Tad" Coulter.
She retired retired from Mitchell Community Schools with 17 years of service as a custodian, and was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene Church.

West – Dennis Haley of Lyons, IN, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Bloomington Hospital. Born July 1, 1945, in Posey County, IN, he was the son of Harold (Pedad) and Irrus (Hague) Haley. He married Susan Burch on October 14, 1984 and she survives.
Surviving with his wife is his mother, Irrus Haley of Florida; three daughters: Sandy Utterback of Tennessee, Tammy Ives of Sullivan, IN, and Denise Isley of Seymour, IN; one son, Joe McKinnon of Newberry, IN; nine grandchildren; one sister, Vickie Haley of Nebraska and one brother, Cloud Haley of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Haley.
He was an over the road truck driver for Smith Transport of Pennsylvania and a member of the Teamsters Union #135. He attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Linton and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 7th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Doug Cassel officiating. A graveside committal will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday at Pararie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons, IN. King – Tanny King of Bedford, IN, died on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at his home. Born on January 5, 1928, he was the son of Herman C. King and Edith Gail (Boruff) Harrell in Greene County, IN. He was formerly married to Jean Richardson.
Surviving are one son, Timothy King, and his wife Dietra; and two daughters, Nina McBride and husband, John, and Pam McIntyre and husband, Dale, all of Bedford, IN; his companion of 21 years, Barbara J. Roach; his five grandchildren, Jarad King, Whitney King, Ryan McBride, Bailey McBride and Jordyn McIntyre; one sister, Joan Crofts and husband Tom; and a niece, Bridget Roberts Auvenshine, both of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Allen King and Orval D. King.
He was a member of the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Orleans; a Teamster truck driver for 47 years, as well as retired maintenance personnel of the Stone City Mall, Bedford. He was a World War II veteran; a union carpenter, being one of the carpenters who built the Bedford Boys Club building; and a member of several activities such as the American Legion, the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club, 3rd Degree member of Moose Lodge 689, and Eagles 654, all of Bedford.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home of Bedford. Visitation hours are from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, with a Memorial Service conducted by Moose Lodge 689 of Bedford at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Darrin Chastain officiating. Burial will be at the Dishman Cemetery, Greene County, with military graveside rites accorded by Gillen Post #33 of the American Legion. West – Pauline (Chaney) West, 83, 202046 Plaza Drive, Bedford, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born March 19, 1922, in Oolitic, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Lola (Godsey) Holbert. She married Carl Chaney on April 13, 1940, and he died May 4, 1963. She then married Elbert Wet on June 20, 1969, and he died on June 21, 1989.
Surviving are one daughter, Vicky Chaney (Thompson) Hill and her husband Arthur of Bedford, IN; Susan (Chaney) Starr, the widow of Pauline's son; five grandchildren: Sarah (Thompson) High and her husband Robert, Leslie (Thompson) Schmitt and her husband Rich, Rhonna (Chaney) Roberts and husband Ryan, all of of Bedford, IN, Joe Chaney and wife Anne of Tinley Park, IL; and Dianna (Chaney) Lively and husband Lyndon of Atlanta, IN; seven great-grandchildren: Noah High, Isabelle High, Tylor Schmitt, Darci Roberts, Bret Roberts, Nicole Chaney and Adam Chaney. She was preceded in death by both husbands; one son, Carl “Skip” Chaney Jr.; one brother William Holbert; one half-brother, Roy Holbert and one grandson, Jason Thompson.
She and her husband owned and operated a Marathon station at 7th and Lincoln Ave., Chaney's Sinclair station at 7th and R streets and the Plaza Truck Stop on East 50. She was a homemaker and many years ago was a Cub Scout Den Mother.

Stannard – Shane Patrick Stannard, 23, of Bedford passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at his home. Born in Bedford on March 15, 1982, he was the son of Claude Clinton Stannard II and Joyce Elaine White Stannard Dougherty.
Surviving are one daughter, Madison Kaylee-Ann Kloeckner; four brothers: Tracy White, Clinton Stannard III, Shawn Stannard and Joey Stannard; one grandfather, James White; one grandmother, Sharon Rose Trueblood; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lena Rose Stannard; his grandmother, Aletha White, and grandfather, Claude Clinton Stannard.
