11/29/05

Young – Matthew Lee Young of Saint Anthony, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at 504 West Oak Street, Mitchell. Born September 29, 1979, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Michael and Beverly (Stancombe) Young. He married Teresa Wininger and she survives.

Surviving with his wife of Mitchell, IN, are his parents Michael and Beverly Young of Ferdinand, IN; one sister, Tina Hobson and husband, Kevin, of Salem, IN; grandparents, Robert Young of Norman, IN, and Ethel Stancombe of Mitchell, IN; aunts and uncles: Teresa and Regan Rigsby of Mitchell, IN, Pam and Eric Taylor of Springville, IN, and David and Deanna Young of Norman, IN; nieces, Keona Stickney, Cortni Hobson, Chancla Hobson, Zoe McMillen, Nikki McMillen, Courtney McMillen; nephew, Seth Hobson; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Hazel Young.

He was a machinist for Master Brand Cabinets.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 2nd, at Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Brother Dana Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Enochs – George C. Enochs of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, November 27, 2005 at his residence. Born July 2, 1920 he was the son of Thomas and Cassie (Todd) Enochs. He married Mildred Cain on July 23, 1941 and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are six children: Allen and his wife Linda, of Colorado, George, Jr. of Bloomington, IN, Rosann Norris-Mahuron and her husband Wayne, Rick and his wife Marsha, Greg, Sr. and Randy, all of Bedford, IN; twenty grandchildren and fifty-five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Curtis Edward; one daughter, Sandra Jean Super; one grandson, Robert Daniel Baker; one son-in-law, David Norris; six sisters and four brothers.

He served as Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army during WWII. Served as Captain of the police force in Connersville and retired from Extruded Alloys in Bedford. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the CCC. He earned two Purple Hearts among numerous other medals.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 30th at 10:00 am in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Rodney Reynolds and Bishop Paul Hanson. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 4 – 8 pm on Tuesday November 29th and from 9:00 am until the service time on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Tanksley – Robert E. Tanksley of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, November 27, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital, Bedford. Born December 10, 1919, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Claude and Bessie (Brim) Tanksley. He married Dorothy Helen Ingram February 21, 1939, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are children: Karen Lee Newton and husband, Jack, Kenneth Eugene Tanksley and wife, Judith A., and Loretta Ann Tanksley, all of Mitchell, IN, Robert Leon Tanksley and wife, Nancy, Owasso, OK, Michael Wayne Tanksley, and wife, Sharon Lee, and Dorothy Louise "Missy" Mosier and husband, James, all of Bedford, IN; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by brothers, Elbert and Leon Tanksley; and granddaughter, Leslie.

He was a retired dispatcher for the Mitchell Police Department and attended Liberty Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bugh – Marguerite Kathleen Bugh of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 26, 2005, at Westview Manor and Rehab Center. Born on October 2, 1919, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Emery C. “Perc” and Mabel (Holmes) Turner. She married Robert Harry Bugh, on March 11, 1939, and he died Oct. 15, 1991, in Lakeland, Georgia.

Surviving are two daughters: Sandra Gail Curtis and her husband, Nelson, of Longwood, FL, and Martha Karen Dillard and her husband, Neal, of Lakeland, GA; one son, Robert Donald Bugh of Georgia; three granddaughters: Neala Kay McCardle and her husband Rick of Longwood, FL, Mindy Louise Dillard of North Carolina and Candace Claire Curtis and her husband of Longwood, FL; six grandsons: Kenneth Wayne Bugh, Robert Maxwell “Duke” Bugh and Matthew Earl Bugh, all of Bedford, IN, Gregory Russell Curtis, William Raymond Curtis and Geoffrey Robert Curtis, all of Florida; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one sister, Norma J. Hutchinson and her husband Kenneth, Bedford, IN; two sisters-in-law, Jean Blackmore of Seymour, IN and Marjorie Turner of Greendale, WI; and her friend and former daughter-in-law, Brenda Bugh, Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Roy Turner and Emery Carl Turner; and two sisters, Mary Louise Walls and Phyllis Ann Strunk.

She had been employed in restaurant work and at the former Kresge Dollar Store, and while living in Florida she managed the gift shop at the Wekiva Falls Lodge and Tourist Park where her husband guided boat tours of the Wekiva River. She was member of the Assembly of God Church.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor John Dodd and Pastor Glenn Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary from 4-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until the service on Wednesday.

Shafer – Private Second Class Tyler Lee Shafer, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, November 24, at Scott White Hospital in Temple, TX. Born August 15, 1985, in Urbana, IL, he was the son of Michael and Tammi (Schoen) Shafer.

Surviving are daughters, Kaitlyn Marie Shafer and Briann VanMeter, both of Mitchell; his fiancée, Misty VanMeter of Mitchell, IN; his mother, Tammi Withrow of Wayne City, IL; his father, Michael Shafer of Mitchell, IN; sisters: Lauren Shaferof Champaign, IL, Melissa Hoffman of Villa Grove, IL, and Shelbi Keys of Wayne City, IL; maternal grandparents, Duane and Mary Blaney of Austin, TX, and C. W. and Joyce Schoen of Bluford, IL; and paternal grandparents, Ken and Brenda Shafer of Mitchell, IN.

He graduated from Mitchell High School in 2004, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. He was part of the 1st Calvery Division, where he held a job of mechanic. Tyler enjoyed his time in the Army and was proud to serve his country.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3rd, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by a detachment from Fort Knox, Kentucky. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Chastain Funeral Home, Mitchell.

Bryson – Ernest A. Bryson, Jr., of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at his residence. Born September 17, 1937, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he was the son of Ernest Bryson, Sr. and Bertha (Morse) Bryson. He married Sharon Parham on April 19, 1967, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, William E. Bryson of Trinity Springs, IN; two daughters, Lisa M. Smittle of Dayton, OH, and Norma J. Lee of Oolitic, IN; seven grandchildren: B.J., Ashley, Kelsey, Levi and Georgia Bryson and James and Lyndsey Lee; and two sisters, Marylyn and Eleanor Meile of Methuen, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

He was a planerman with Indiana Limestone Co.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Friday, November 25th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 10:00 am until the service time Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Hoosier Uplands.

Kopp – Louis Marvin “Pete” Kopp of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born March 29, 1918, in New Albany, he was the son of Alva E. and Clara Edna (Bauer) Kopp. He married Lillian Margaret Bledsoe on July 22, 1939, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church by the Rev. Paul Utz, and she survives.

Surviving with the wife are one daughter, Linda Fitzpatrick, of Bedford, IN; one son, Charles Edward “Bud” Kopp and his wife Vickie of Bedford, IN; grandchildren: Mike Fitzpatrick and wife Jody of Floyds Knobs, IN; Kelly Blackburn and husband Jay of Mitchell, IN; Scott Kopp of Bedford, IN, Susan Vest and husband Tim of Spencer, IN, and Andrea Pemberton and husband Paul of Bedford, IN; great-grandchildren: Christopher Kopp, Jessi Kopp, Dalton Vest, Cody Vest, Jay Pemberton, Lana Pemberton, Ally Rae Pemberton, Shawn Fitzpatrick, Mary Ann Fitzpatrick, Jacob Blackburn and Caleb Blackburn; sisters, Kathleen Freeman and husband John of Shelbyville, IN, and Dotty Holley of Bedford, IN; brothers, Howard Kopp of Bedford, IN, and Roger Kopp of Lady Lake, FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Warren, Jim and Kenneth Kopp.

He was a baker for 44 years at Honey Krust Bakery/Holsum, Bedford, retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was an avid fisherman.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ally Rae Pemberton Medical Fund.

Anderson – William T. “Bill” Anderson of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at Core Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bedford, IN. Born March 14, 1909, in Clay County, IN, he was the son of Otis Shattack and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Anderson. He first married Margaret Clara Haberle on April 14, 1932, and she preceded him in death in 1979. He then married Roberta (Younger) Anderson on Nov. 1, 1979, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons: William Tom Anderson Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Bedford, IN, and Charles Elbert Anderson, of Salem, IN; one daughter, Barbara Anderson Kline and husband, James, of Bedford, IN; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Otis K. Anderson of Vincennes, IN; one sister, Margaret Sorrell of Indianapolis, IN; several nieces, nephews and cousins; one stepson, Jerry Anderson and wife, Sally, of Greenville, TN; one step-daughter, Jean Newman and husband, Bob, of Rochester, NY; four step-grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Anderson; three sisters: Ruth, Katharine and Charlotte; and one granddaughter, Robin Anderson.

He was a retired farmer and teacher. He was a 1930 graduate of Purdue University and was a member of the Erie Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of Rotary, was the first president of the 4-H Fair Board and was instrumental in the formation of the Springville Feeder Auction. He served on the Indiana State Fair Board for 12 years and was farm director for WTTV-RFD.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 26th, at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Ted Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Bee Ridge Cemetery in Clay County. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Erie Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Parsley – Gerald Lee Parsley of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at Purvis, MS, where he had been driving for FEMA assisting hurricane relief efforts for victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, since Sept. 26. Born Dec. 5, 1945, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Orville Parsley and Margaret (Arthur) Parsley Hess. He married Elethia Wood on March 30, 1990, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are his mother and step-father, Margaret and Thomas David Hess, of Springville, IN; two sons, Dallas Parsley and his wife, Aimee, and Jackie Parsley and his wife, Marci, all of Solsberry, IN; grandchildren: Dylan, Abigael, Alexandria and Mollie Parsley, all of Solsberry, IN, and William, Amber, Rachel and Cory Wood, all of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Lois Seagraves and her husband, Bill, and Camille McCain, all of Nineveh, IN; and one brother, Thomas David Hess, of Springville, IN. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Cleve and Thelma Arthur.

He was a truck driver for Parsley Trucking/Landstar. He was a graduate of Oolitic High School and a U.S. Army veteran.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, November 28th, at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with the Rev. Wendell Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Byers-Rainbolt Cemetery in Lawrence County, with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 of Bedford. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.

Perry – Crit C. Perry of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at Core Nursing and Rehab. Center in Bedford. Born February 25, 1917, he was the son of John H. and Nannie (Sasser) Perry. He married Mary A. Baker and she died October 22, 1984. He later married Dolores M. Cooper and she died February 16, 2000.

Surviving are one son, Gerald W. Perry and his wife, Colleen, of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Jane Roberts and Dorsey Spaulding, both of Bedford, IN; a special niece, Glenda Shireman of Greenwood, IN; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Laverne Hackney. He was preceded in death by both wives; one daughter, Gardell Hackney; and one sister, Reba Elliott.

He was a millwright for Central Foundry in Bedford and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 26th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Prince – Judith Elaine (Judy) Prince of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born April 15, 1945, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Helen Louise (Sowders) Knight. She married Roger Lee Prince on May 6, 1961, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters: Marilee Atteberry and her husband, George, of Avoca, IN, Sandy Jo Hazelip and her husband, Brian, of Grandview, IN, and Susan Elaine Deckard and her husband, Robert, of Freedom, IN; two sons, Brian Keith Prince of Leesville, IN, and Brent Ray Prince and his wife, Aimee, of Norman, IN; nineteen grandchildren; four great granddaughters; one brother, Bennie Knight and his wife, Linda, of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Edith Joan Turner and her husband, Archie, of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Hazelip.

She was a former employee at the Times-Mail working in the insert room and courier route. She was of the Christian faith.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 26th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. John Turpin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Underwood – Juanita R. Underwood of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born December 13, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Anna (Baker) Rollins. She married Thomas J. Underwood on August 19, 1944, and he died in 1993.

Surviving are one son, Thomas Charles Underwood and his wife, Kim, of Montgomery, AL; three daughters: Diana Underwood and her companion, Mark Nordhoff of Bedford, IN,Cathy Blackwell and her husband, John, of Springville, IN, and Patricia Long and her husband, Robert, of Terre Haute, IN; five grandchildren: Thomas Underwood, Jr., Crystal Underwood, Julie England, Tom Blackwell and Andy Long; one great-grandchild, Jesse England. She was preceded in death by her husband and four brothers.

She retired from M. Fine and Sons Mfg. in Bedford and was a member of Hilltop Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 26th at the Hilltop Pentecostal Church with Bro. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hilltop Cemetery. Barnett – Danny Barnett Bedford, IN, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born August 2, 1929, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Lingle and Nora (Terry) Barnett. He married Helen L. Lindley September 1, 1951, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Barry Gene Barnett, of Mitchell, IN; and one sister, Ruth Chastain, of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Menlo Barnett; and one sister, Eldena Gabbert.

He retired from GM Powertrain, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a 1949 graduate of Mitchell High School and attended Indiana University. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23rd, at Chastain Funeral Home with Revs. Warren Purcell, Mike Williams, and Glenn Hamer officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Barrett – Staria D. (Bell) Barrett of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 19, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born Nov. 2, 1955, in Bloomington, IN, she was the daughter of Philip L. Bell Sr. and Bertice (Walker) Bell.

Surviving are her fiancé Clarence William Johnson Jr., of Bedford, IN; her parents, Philip and Bertice Bell, of Bloomington, IN; her son, Josh Barrett and his fiancé, Amanda Rieman, of Bedford, IN; two daughters: Tabitha Lane and fiancé, Alan Wade, of Bedford, IN, and Heather Marie Johnson and her fiancé, Dwayne Riggs, of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren; four sisters: Nena Evans of Ellettsville, IN, Katrina Cunningham of Bloomington, IN, Darla Covey of Springville, IN, and Selena Sartin of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Philip L. Bell Jr. of Bloomington, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Dean Bell and Matt and Erie Walker.

She was a homemaker and attended New Hope Community Church in Bedford.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 23rd, at the Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel in Bloomington. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Wilson – Frances E. Wilson of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 19, 2005, at her residence. Born July 14, 1920 in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of John W. and Florence Mae (Easton) Curren. She married Elvet Wilson on March 28, 1940, and he died October 20, 1980.

Surviving are two sisters, Maxine Scherschel of Mitchell, IN, and Colleen Smith and her husband, Glenn, of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Robert Curren and his wife, Mary, of Florida and John S. Curren and his wife, Phyllis, of Bedford, IN; one nephew who was raised in the home, Larry Smith and his wife, Jenny; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Jane Atchison; two brothers, Thomas and Everett Howard Curren.

She was employed at the Bedford Office Supply and had later worked at the Well Baby Clinic for thirteen years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 23rd, at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Elred officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. A rosary service will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Bloomington Hospice.

Moss – James R. Moss of Bedford, IN, died Friday, November 18, 2005, at his residence. Born July 20, 1927, in Evansville, IN, he was the son of Carl N. and Irene (Stone) Moss. He married Patricia J. Haley on Sept. 9, 1976, in Springville, TN, and she survives.

Surviving with the wife are two sons, James P. Moss of Mexico City, Mexico, and Paul S. Moss of New Albany, IN; two daughters, Deborah Prichard and her husband, Raymond, of New Albany, IN, and Mary Berkshire and her husband, Kenneth, of Bloomfield, IN; one step-daughter, Sheila T. Ryan, of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Moss, and one step-son, Charles Messer.

He was a retired technician for Hubbard TV. He was a member of the Tabernacle of Praise, and the American Legion, Gillen Post No. 33.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion, Gillen Post No. 33. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Harrison – John B. Harrison of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Bloomington. Born June 2, 1923, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of Joe C. and Pauline (Cochran) Harrison. He married Frances B. Beasley August 7, 1943, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are children, Donald E. Harrison and his wife, Virginia, of Bedford, IN, Nancy Jo Powell and her husband, Phil, of Greenwood, IN, and Mark T. Harrison and his wife, Judy, of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Betty M. Walker of Colorado; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Ann Harrison in September, 1950.

He retired from Carpenter Body Works, was a 1941 Mitchell High School, and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Mitchell First Baptist Church

Private family services were held November 20, 2005, with Reverend Richard Tallman officiating. Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery. Shipsides – Stanley H. “Doc” Shipsides DVM, of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born on December 20, 1919, in Lakeworth, FL, he was the son of George and Elsie (Mercklen) Shipsides.

Survivors include Myra Colglazier, his significant other and assistant for many years; one daughter, Karen Gamble Jamsek and her husband, Filip, of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; two sons, John Shipsides and his wife, Wendy, of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and Jerry Shipsides and his wife, Eva ,of Ancaster, Ontario, Canada; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bea Shipsides.

No calling hours are scheduled. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the White River Humane Society.

Watterson – Evelyn C. Watterson of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born October 19, 1924, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Artie and Vanice (Arnold) Pruett. She married John L. Watterson April 12, 1947, and he died June 6, 2002.

Surviving are three daughters: Susan Mayden and her husband, Hank, and Debbie Watterson, all of Bedford, IN, and Karen Leslie of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Brandon Mayden, Tiffany Mayden, Mica Pewitt, Regan Leslie, and Derek Leslie; one great grandson, Evan Mayden; one brother, Eugene Pruett, of Mitchell, IN; and one sister, Maxine Covert, of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, William L. Pruett.

She was a member of Tulip Street Christian Church and a 1943 graduate of Mitchell High School. She had been employed at Reliance Manufacturing and was a homemaker.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Brother Max Timbrook officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Morthland – Roberta June Morthland of Brazil, IN, died at 1:56 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2005, following a motor vehicle accident on U.S. Hwy. 40 west of Brazil. Born June 25, 1929, in Michigan City, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer and Olive Brown Gasoway. She married William “Bill” Morthland June 14, 1947, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Sue Anne Lakin and husband, Jim, of West Lafayette, IN; one son, David Morthland and wife, Debbie, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Virgil Gassoway of Florida; grandchildren: Chris “CJ” Morthland, Aaron B. Morthland, Eric Cox and Amanda Cox; and great-grandson Riley Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clair and Cecil Gassoway; two sisters, Thelma G. Jones and Vera G. Bond; and one granddaughter, Wendy Morthland.

Following high school she worked as a beautician, manager and owner of her own dress shop and manager for National Uniform. She was also a Mary Kay Cosmetics representative. Roberta was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brazil the Clay County Breakfast Optimist Club, United Methodist Women, YMCA Senior Swimers Club, Red Hat Society, Clay County Habitat for Humanity, and the Community Theatre of Clay County.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 18th, with Rev. Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before funeral services on Friday at Moore Funeral Home. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Clay County Optimist Youth Fund or the Wabash Valley Multiple Sclerosis Society. Sanders – Henry Earl Sanders of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born November 1, 1945, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Arthur James and Addie Louise (Starett) Sanders. He married Sharon White July 24, 1999, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are sons: Stephen Sanders and wife Crystal, of Buddha, IN, Scott Sanders and wife Michelle, John Sanders and wife Diane, Mark Hobson and wife Kellie, Ronnie Hobson and wife Jenny, Chris Learned, and Gilbert Learned, all of Bedford, IN; brothers, Harold Sanders and wife Rondee, of Mitchell, IN, and Robert James Sanders and wife Sharon, of Petersburg, IN; sisters, Mary Isom and husband Paul, Annis Buchanon, all of Bloomington, IN, and Lois Hatridge and husband Glen, of Colorado Springs, CO; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marty Sanders; brother, Buddy Sanders; and sister, Lula Prize.

He was an operator on power line construction. He belonged to IBEW Local 1393.

Underwood – Walter “Ike” Underwood of Bedford, IN, died Monday, November 14, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1929, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Alfred and Ruth (Panza) Underwood. He married Sherry Drehobl Dec. 1, 1951, and she survives.

Surviving with the wife are two sons: Jim Underwood and his wife Deborah of Springville, IN, and John Underwood of Royal Oak, Mich.; three daughters: Jane Root and husband Larry of Mitchell, IN, Judy Underwood of Indianapolis and Jo Ann Underwood of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Dale Underwood and wife June, and Don Underwood and wife Reva, all of of Bedford, IN; two sisters: Donna Brown and husband Clifford of Medora, IN, and Sarah Tincher of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael in infancy; one grandson, Christopher Mark in infancy; and two sisters: Evelyn Fields and Jean Ellis.

He was a millwright at GM Powertrain in Bedford for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree; United Way of Lawrence County board for six years; American Legion Gillen Post #33; Democrat County Chairman and past president; UAW Local 440 and past president; LMOW-CAP Chairman; Chairman Local 440 Retirees; Lawrence County Councilman for four years, past president; recipient of the Walter E. Reuther Distinguished Service Award in 1998 and Region 3 Directors Award in 1998. He also served on the board of the Hoosier Hills Credit Union.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 17th, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Knights of Columbus will conduct a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Wilson – Shawn Lavere Wilson, Jr. infant son of Shawn L. and Melissa (Hensley) Wilson was stillborn on November 14, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Surviving with his parents, Shawn and Melissa Wilson of Bedford, IN, are siblings, Brian Johnson of Brownstown, IN, Heaven Leann Wilson of Indianapolis, Allison Shelton and Alyssa Shelton, both of Bedford, IN, Mariah Wilson and Mason Wilson, both of Oolitic, IN, Christopher Shelton of Bedford, IN, Nicole Wilson and Kaycee Wilson, both at home; maternal grandparents, Rita Tincher of Bedford, IN, Elbert Bradley Hensley of Heltonville, IN; paternal grandmother, Nathalee Wilson of Bedford, IN; maternal great-grandmother, Geneva Hensley of Heltonville, IN; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Carl Wilson.

Magnus – William “Billy” Magnus of Springville, IN, died Sunday, November 13, 2005, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born September 17, 1953, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Garrett Stroud and Angie (Magnus) Hudson.

Surviving are his parents, Jim and Angie Hudson of Springville; one brother, Curtis Stroud and his wife, Michelle, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Mary Jones and her husband, Tommy, of Madison, TN; one step-brother, Michael Hudson and his wife, Jessica, of Springville, IN; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father.

He was an honorary Eagle Scout and a member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Dept.

Blackburn – Abigail S. "Abbie" Blackburn, 25, of Bedford, died Friday at her residence. The daughter of Douglas Blackburn and Vicki Lynn Gerkin, she was born on August 16, 1980.

Surviving are her father, Douglas Blackburn of Bedford, IN; her mother, Vicki Lynn Gerkin of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Amy Romig of Columbus, IN; and two brothers, Andy Blackburn and Justin Blackburn, both of Bedford, IN.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Kelley – Edward Earl Kelley of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, November 11, 2005, at his residence. Born Sept. 16, 1916, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Charlie and Mellissa Jane (Hatfield) Kelley.

Survivors are three sisters: Evelen Duncan of Florence, AL, and Thelma Kirkman and Juanita Cravens, both of Odon, IN; one son, Randall W. Kelley of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, J. Kelley Blair of Bloomington, IN; five grandchildren: Cinnamon Kelley, Brittany Blair, Temple Baralota, Kasey Kelley and Whitney Kelley; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Justin Bailey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herald Kelley and Harley Kelley; and two sisters, Hazel Speer and Edith Stout.

An electrician, he was retired from Lehigh Portland Cement Co. He served in the Navy's Third Fleet on the U.S.S. Loeser in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the U.S.S. Loeser Association.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Haverly Mortuary, with the Rev. Mark Bechtel officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the mortuary.

Martin – Aaron Jacob Martin of Williams, IN, died on Tuesday, November 8, 2005. Born October 8, 1980 in Ft. Worth, TX, he was the son of Fraun Renee Kinser Martin. He married Shannon Martin and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three step-daughters: Briana Tenell, Brittany and Brooklyn Neff, all of Williams, IN; his grandmother, Velma Bagwell of Bloomington, IN; his father, Larry Martin of Spencer, IN. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandfather, Harold Kinser.

Baugh – Louise Baugh of Paducah, KY, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, November 7, 2005, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. Born August 15, 1922, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Otto and Angie May (Miller) Stewart. She married Leroy Baugh October 8, 1944 and he died September 22, 1985.

Surviving are on daughter, Linda Holsapple and husband, Jim, of Paducah, KY; one son, Bill Baugh and wife, Peg, of West Lafayette, IN; one sister, Lucille Phillips, of Mitchell, IN; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.

She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1942, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 70 years.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a. m. Thursday, November 10th, in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Reid – Kyle David Reid of Heltonville, IN, died at 12:45 pm on Monday, November 7, 2005 in Bloomington, IN. Born October 16, 1987 in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of David Russell and Dana (Reid) Caswell.

Surviving are his mother, Dana and her husband, Samuel Caswell of Heltonville, IN; his father, David Russell and his wife, Evelyn of Monticello, KY; his maternal grandmother, LaDonna Bonn and her husband, James of Havana, FL; his paternal grandparents, David and Sherry Russel of Paoli, IN; his girlfriend, Chelsea Bailey of Bedford, IN; one brother, Mathew Mounce of Bloomington, IN; two sisters, Lindsay Eggles and Cheyenne Russell both of Heltonville, IN; two step-brothers, Richard Caswell of Bedford, IN, and Samuel Caswell II, of Oolitic, IN; three step-sisters: Tomi Anne Lessaris of Greenwood, Michelle Brewer of Bloomington and Crystal Ray of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Reid.

Stone – Connie Jean Stone of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born March 14, 1947, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Clarence and Betty (Browning) Brewer. She married Harold Edward Stone Sr. on September 9, 1968, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Tammy Kidd and her husband, Wayne, of Bedford, IN; two sons, Michael Stephen Stone of Fayetteville, IN, and Harold Stone Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren: Tyler, Jordan and Eric Gully, Zach and Codie Kidd, Shelby Bryant and Sydney Stone, all of Bedford, IN; three brothers: Don Brewer and David Brewer, both of Mitchell, IN, and Greg Brewer of Bedford, IN; one sister, Pat Brewer of French Lick, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was employed in the dietary department of Dunn Memorial Hospital of Bedford, retiring in 2002 with 25 years of service. She was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church and Shiloh Christian Fellowship, both of Bedford.

Addis – Dorothy Phyllis Addis of Vincennes, IN, died November 5, 2005, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA. Born June 5, 1930, in Coal Grove, OH, she was the daughter of George and Willa (Howell) Malone. She married William C. Addis and he survives.

Surviving with her husband, William, are many nieces, nephews and a great number of friends throughout the country.

She, along with her husband, William, were evangelists who traveled throughout the United States. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 10th at the Shady Springs Pentecostal Camp Ground on Hwy 50 East of Bedford with I.D. Sullivan, David Taylor, Paul Markee, Kenneth Brand and Gary Edenfield officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca. Lively – Clotha A. Liveley of Bloomington, IN, died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the Bloomington Hospital. Born August 30, 1918 in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Donley and Lottie (Hawkins) Lively.

Surviving are two sisters, Virginia Stipp and Thelma Deckard and her husband, Herman; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ira, Ivan and Clyde Lively; one sister, Velma Rose Lively. She will be sadly missed be her family and her many long time friends.

She retired as a Supervisor of Quality Control from Sarkes Tarzian Inc. in 1979 after thirty-four years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 9th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Alan Reed and Tom Tarzian officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery. Wesner – Thelma Marie Wesner of Bedford, IN, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at her residence. Born Aug. 26, 1907, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Henry Monyhan and Pearl (Hart) Monyhan. She married Thomas Fultz and he preceded her in death. She married Harry C. Wesner, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two nephews, Melvin G. Monyhan and his wife, Kay, and Wayne Otis Monyhan, all of Bloomington; one great-niece, Carol Pearson of Bloomington, IN; three great-nephews: Mike, Dean and Gary Monyhan, all of Bloomington, IN; three great-great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; one great-great-great-nephew; and one great-great-great-niece. She was preceded in death by two husbands and three brothers: Earl, Elmer and Otis Monyhan.

She was a homemaker and a member of Hillcrest Christian Church in Bedford.

Brown – Pauline E. Brown of Ellettsville, IN, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at Richland- Bean Blossom Health Care of Ellettsville. Born August 6, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Gladys (Cooper) Wedgewood. She married Stanley R. “Brick” Brown April 16, 1937, and he died in 1984.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Owen and husband, Claude, of Ellettsville, IN; one son, Larry Brown and wife, Patty, of Seymour, IN; one sister, Wilma Mayden, of Jeffersonville, IN; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Stanley E. Brown; daughter, Joyce Ann Brown; sister, Mary Hawks; and brothers: Gene and Rayburn Wedgewood, preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and had been employed at Reliance Manufacturing, M. Fine & Son, and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell, Lawrence County Homemakers, and Dixie Club.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 4th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Brother Bud Smith officiating. Burial will be in Knott Cemetery.
