07/31/05

Mosier – Robert S. “Bob” Mosier of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born June 19, 1922, he was the son of Lawrence and Irma (Wagner) Mosier. He married Virginia Baker in 1949, and she died in 1982. He later married Jewell Helton on March 31, 1984, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Stan Mosier and his wife, Melody, of Shoals, IN, Steve Mosier and his wife, Cathy, of Williams, IN; two daughters, Eva Smith and her husband, P.J., of Tennessee, and Ginger Anderson and her husband, Terry, of Danville, IN; four step-children: Jeannie Baughman, Jack Helton, Ann Harrell, Pam Peters; six grandchildren: Erik Mosier, Reagan Norman, Zachary Mosier, Amanda Anderson, Jason Smith and Corey Mosier; great-grandchildren: Gavin Norman, Gracie Norman, Logan Norman and Hannah Smith; ten step-grandchildren: Rocky Harrell, Andy Harrell, Lisa Harrell, Tony Canada, Brad Canada, Brandi Smith, Brandon Helton, Carrie Blackwell, Jodi Wright and James Ritchison; three brothers: Merle Mosier of Florida, Earl Mosier of Shoals, IN, and James Mosier of Bedford, IN; ten step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; two step-daughters, Connie Edmonson and Sue Canada; one step-son, Richard Helton; one step-grandson, J.R. Helton; three step-great grandsons; two sisters, Marie Wright and Virginia Catt; three brothers: Lawrence, Wayne and William Mosier.

He was retired as a limestone worker after thirty-two years and had been employed at the Crane NWSC for five years. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force and Navy Air Force serving twelve years. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Gillen Post #33 American Legion and Englewood Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 3rd, at Green Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Ferry officiating. Graveside military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 pm that evening by members of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM.

Caldwell – Keyairian Caldwell of Springville, IN, died on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at her residence. Born June 26, 2003, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Montell Caldwell and Diana Terrell.

Survivors with her parents are her step-father, Michael Terrell, IN; one brother, Montell (Tray) Caldwell; one half-brother, Drayson McPherson of Mitchell, IN; two step-sisters, Alexis and Abbey Terrell of Bedford, IN; maternal grandmother, Sherry Terrell of Springville, IN; maternal grandfather, Charles Kirkman of Bedford, IN; paternal grandmother, Vanetta Bartley of Indianapolis; adopted grandmother, Connie Caldwell of Indianapolis; step-grandfather, Merle Moore of Springville, IN; one aunt, Latasha Caldwell and one uncle, Michael Griffie.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 4th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Sister Becky Ryan and Rev. Ronnell Griffie officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery. Knight – Rita J. Knight of Orleans, IN, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at her residence. Born on March 7, 1946, in Muncie, IN, she was the daughter of Reginald Eugene and Eula (Roberts) Blanton. She married Donald O. Knight on May 9, 1964, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are her mother, Eula Blanton of Orleans, IN; one daughter, Samantha R. P. Hall of Orleans, IN; one granddaughter, Larissa Morrow of Orleans, IN; five brothers: Richard Gregory of Virginia Beach, VA, twin brother Mike Blanton of Orleans, IN, Blane Blanton of Greencastle, IN, Lloyd Blanton of Orleans, IN, and Charles Blanton of Huron, IN; and two sisters, Sheila Knight and Marilyn Packard, both of Orleans, IN. She was preceded in death by her father.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church at Campbellsburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 2nd, at Haverly Mortuary with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at Haverly Mortuary.

Allen – Larry B. Allen of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born February 21, 1941, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Paul Edward "Ted" and Regina Mae "Jean" (Allen) Allen. He married Cathy J. Tolbert June 2, 1973, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Susan E. Ray of Mitchell, IN, Jill K. True of Bedford, IN, and Betsy E. Pace of Dayton, OH; one son, Larry Brig Allen of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University and a Master of Science degree from Ball State University. He began his teaching career at Oak Hill High School in Marion, IN, and had also been football coach and athletic director at Mitchell High School, and freshman basketball coach, football coach, and track coach at Jeffersonville High School. He retired from Bedford-North Lawrence High School where he was a teacher and coach of football and track. He was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the Alabama Football Fan Club.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 1st, at Chastain Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Fields – Marie P. Fields of Bedford, IN, formerly of Anderson, IN, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at the Select Specialty in Bloomington, IN. Born March 26, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Walter and Mary (Hackler) Pierce. She married Harry Riggle and he preceded her in death. She married Noble Fields, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Madlyn Sullivan and her husband, Frank, of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Amy Goodman and her husband Tony, of Ohio, and Brad Fields of Bedford, IN; one great-grandson, Zachary Goodman of Ohio; one sister, Jane Goodman and her husband, Louis, of Bedford, IN; one step-daughter, Wanda Ringer of Anderson, IN; one step-son, Darrell Fields of Texas; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Lottie Pierce. She was preceded in death by both husbands; two brothers, John Pierce and Elston Pierce; and one sister, Dessie Anderson.

She was employed by a bank in Anderson, IN and the Madison County Treasurer’s Office. She was a member of Donica Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 30th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kendall Hendrickson and Rev. Floyd Brick officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 pm on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10:00 am until the service time on Saturday.

Sheeley – Ronald K. Sheeley of Springville, IN, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born May 6, 1949, in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of Paul and Margaret (Sanders) Sheeley. He married Donna Lucas on April 29, 1972, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Melissa Matson and her husband, Paul, of Bedford, IN; Danielle Brooking and her husband, Kyle, of Indianapolis, IN; one son,Ryan Sheeley and his wife, Samantha, of Bloomington, IN; two grandsons, Philip Matson and Rylan Sheeley; one brother, Mike Sheeley of Terre Haute, IN; several aunts & cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a retired Laborer, an Instructor at Indiana Laborers Training Institute, also employed at Crane and the Proprietor of Sheeley Auction Services. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of the American Legion and the Indiana Auctioneers Commission.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 11:00 am with Rev. Danny Goens officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00- 8:00 pm on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9:00 am until the service time on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Alexander – Nancy Katherine Alexander of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 18, 1932, in Lexington, KY, she was the daughter of Walter C. and Nellie (Wray) Reynolds. She married Robert Denton Alexander January 6, 1952, and he died January 26, 1992.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry Wayne Alexander, and wife, Janis, of Bedford, IN, and John David Alexander of Bedford, IN; one sister, Hazel Sullivan, of Lexington, KY; three granddaughters: Angelia Alexander, Chasity Jenkins, and Crystal Walton; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Margaret Lucille Vice and Elizabeth Trimble; and five brothers: Edwin Allen Reynolds, Arthur Reynolds, Chester Reynolds, Ralph Reynolds, and Les Reynolds.

She was a homemaker and a member of Woodville Baptist Church.

Browning – Timothy Michael Browning of East Oolitic, IN, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005. Born October 27, 1983, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Timothy O. and Cindy Anne (Cheek) Browning.

Surviving with his parents of East Oolitic, IN, are one sister, Suzi Pointer and her husband, Chris, of Spencer, IN; one nephew, Chance Pointer, at home; his paternal grandmother, Loretta Browning of East Oolitic, IN; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Sue Cheek of Needmore, IN; one uncle, Paul Browning and his wife, Rose, and their son, T.J. of East Oolitic, IN; several great-aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Roger L. Browning; his great grandparents, George and Myrtle Ball and Earl and Dorothy Turner.

He was a graduate of BNL High School with the class of 2002.

Freeman – Marie Bolton Freeman of Bedford, IN, formerly of Williams, IN, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born May 20, 1911, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Leanore (DeFord) Bolton. She married Frank James Freeman on September 3, 1927, in Lawrence County, and he died December 2, 1989.

Survivors include three daughters: Maxine Lewis of Owensburg, IN, Ruth Wininger of Tampa, FL, and Geraldine Jackson of Bedford, IN; one son, John Freeman of Shelbyville, IN; 15 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jewel Neighbors of Arizona; one brother, Norman Bolton of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; five sisters; and four brothers.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Williams.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 29, at Mount Olive Cemetery near Williams. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. on Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home of Bedford. Memorial contributions may be considered to the American Diabetes Association.

Rariden – David H. Rariden of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born June 29, 1918, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Henry and Dorothy (Jones) Rariden. He married Josephine A. Miller on June 19, 1948, and she died on December 4, 1998.

Surviving are one daughter, Marsha Rariden-Horsak and her husband Cliff of Dallas, TX; one son, Stewart Rariden and his wife Jane of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren: Meredith Rariden and Maureen Rariden, both of Minneapolis, MN, Andrew Rariden of Bedford, IN, and Reilly Horsak and Elise Horsak, both of Dallas, TX; and his caregiver, Glenna Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his wife; and one brother, Phillip B. Rariden.

He was Chairman of Stone City Products; a graduate of Indiana University and Purdue University; a veteran of World War II; and retired as a Lt. Col. from the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was three times awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by three Indiana Governors. He was a member of F. & A.M. Lodge No. 14; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; Murat Shrine Temple; Past President of La-Or-Ma Shrine Club; York Rite Mason; BPO Elks, Bedford Lodge No. 826; American Legion; Past Chairman of the Indiana Manufacturers Association; Board Member of Indiana Manufacturers Association; Board Member of IMA Service; Past Board Member of the Precision Metalforming Association; Past Chairman of the General Advisory for Vocational Education for the North Lawrence School system; Past Chairman of the Bedford Board of Zoning Appeals; Past Chairman of Bedford Plan Commission; Past President of the Lawrence County United Way; Past President of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce; Charter Board Member of the Lawrence County Community Foundation; Hoosier Trails Council Boy Scouts of America – Council Executive, President; President camp development committee member; Green Hill Cemetery Board Member; Dunn Hospital Board Member; Recipient of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award; Recipient of the Sam Walton Business Leader Award; Recipient of the Silver Beaver and the Silver Antelope Awards from the Boy Scouts of America; Recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award; First Recipient of the Manufacturers Service Award named in his honor from the Indiana Manufacturers Association.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29th, at St. John's Episcopal Church of Bedford with Father Charles Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Brown – Pauline Brown of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 28, 1918. She married Eugene R. Brown and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Rose Garriott of Bedford, IN, and Patricia LeVasseur of Big Rapids, MI; two sons, Glenn L. Smith of Monticello, IN, and James Smith of Marion, IL; one sister, Maxine Cory of Monticello, IN; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She was owner/operator of Midway Truck Stop in Jackson County and later drove a truck with her husband for North American Van Lines.

Private graveside services were conducted Thursday, July 28th, at Rock Creek Cemetery in Deer Creek. Arrangements were under the direction of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home of Bedford.

Hutchinson – Delbert Hutchinson of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born November 3, 1944, he was the son of Herbert R. and Mary Lucinda (Glover) Hutchinson.

Survivors include one daughter, Polly Hutchinson of Orleans, IN; one brother, Herbert Hutchinson and his wife Roslee of Leesville, IN; four sisters: Helen Barnett, Hazel Lane and her husband Bunky and Martha Cox, all of Bedford, IN, and Katheryn Bridges and her husband Ralph of Norman, IN; and three grandchildren: Pheonix, Jacquiline and Jaron Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Doyle N. "Doc" Hutchinson and David Wayne Pruitt.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28th, at Jones Funeral Home of Heltonville, with Brother Richard Chase officiating. Burial will be in Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Fletcher – E. Louise Fletcher of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born November 3, 1913, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Ray and Flava (Reister) Pickens. She married Win Doub April 26, 1929, and he died December 10, 1963. She later married Hurley Fletcher on June 19, 1966, and he died November 4, 1994.

Surviving are one son, Jackie Lee Doub, and daughter in law, Mickey, of Mitchell, IN; son in law, Roy Catozzi, of Mitchell, IN; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and caretaker, Brenda Quesenberry, of Mitchell. She was preceded in death by both husbands; one daughter, Marilyn Catozzi, on June 5, 1988; one sister, Agatha Deckert; and one grandson, Todd Catozzi.

She was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and had served as elder, deacon, trustee, treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and was a life-long honorary member of the Presbyterian Westminster Guild. She was member of Fleur de Lis, and had belonged to Order of Eastern Star No. 503, and the Salvation Army Board. She was a former Pink Lady at Dunn Memorial Hospital and a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25th, in the Mitchell Presbyterian Church with Pastor C. Allen Colwell officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Reuter – John Reuter of Nokomis, FL, and Bedford, IN, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Alterra Clare Bridge in Sarasota, FL. Born on February 19, 1933, he was the son of Earle and Jessie Helen (Gainey) Reuter. He married Karen Nygordon August 29,1954, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Barb and Thomas Hennig of Columbus, IN, Becky and Randy Hitchcock of Bedford, IN, and Cindy Reuter of San Francisco, CA; and one son, John Michael and Nanette Reuter of Fountain Hills, AZ.; four grandchildren: Melissa Hennig, Jeff Hennig,Riley Hitchcock, and Ryan Hitchcock; and one brother, Conrad Reuter of Sarasota, FL.

Following graduation from Bedford High School in 1951, he attended Wabash College for two years and then graduated in 1955 with a B.S. in Chemistry from Indiana University; where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1959. While in medical school, he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha medical honorary and also received the C.V. Mosby Award. His year of internship was at Marion County General Hospital; followed by a residency at the Indiana University School of Ophthalmology, where he was presented with the Robert Masters Outstanding Senior Resident Award. He returned to his home town where he practiced Ophthalmology for almost 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Associate Member of the Venice-Nokomis Methodist Church, Bedford Elks Club, Otis Park and Calusa Lakes Golf Clubs, Beta Theta Pi social fraternity, Phi Rho Sigma medical fraternity, American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association, Lawrence County Medical Association, Senior Physicians Association, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He also served on the North Lawrence School Board, and was President of the Lawrence County Medical Society and Chief of Staff at Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28th, at the First United Methodist Church in Bedford with the Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating. Entombment will be at Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford. Memorial contributions may be made to White River Humane Society, P.O. York – John Wayne York of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at his residence. Born June 21, 1944, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Willis Edward and Nellie Clois (Hutsler) York. He married Carol Webb on August 1, 1964, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three sons: Ronald York of Mitchell, IN, Billy York and his wife, Tammy, of Bedford, IN, and Jeff York of Mitchell, IN; three grandsons: Jimmy and Jeremy York, both of Bedford, IN, and Daniel York of Mitchell, IN; one granddaughter, Chloi York of Mitchell, IN; seven brothers: David, Jerry, Cecil, Buddy, Eddie, Raymond and Charlie York; four sisters: Marcia Webb, Connie Masters, Debbie York and Patricia York; one step-brother, Frankie Parsons; two step-sisters, Rosemary Yother and Linda Parsons; and his step-mother, Katherine York. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert York (in infancy); one sister, Patricia York (in infancy); his step-father, Orville York; and one granddaughter, Heather Rose York.

He was employed at Sigma Steel Plant in Huron.

Roberts – Wayne E. Roberts of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born January 27, 1925, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William and Lura (Waggoner) Roberts. He married Ellen Sons on July 17, 1955, and she died in 1992.

Surviving are one daughter, Theresa Roberts of Bedford, IN; one grandson, David Roberts and his wife, Kristie, of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Dena Hewitt of Kokomo, IN, and Jo Schloot of Tennessee; and one brother, Lee Roberts of Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, George "Dick" Roberts.

He was retired from RCA in Bloomington; and he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23rd, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home of Bedford. Burial will be in Weddleville Cemetery in Jackson County. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Baker – Mary Lodena Baker of Bedford, IN, formerly of Avoca, IN, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the Hospitality House. Born October 19, 1923, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Calvin and Sylvia (Wilson) Hudson.

Survivors include three daughters: Christina Peter and her husband, Thomas, of Odon, IN, Cathy Baker of Avoca, IN, and Faye Brown and her husband, Bob, of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren: Matthew and Andrew Peter, Kyle and Kurtis Brown. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister (in infancy).

She was retired from M. Fine & Sons in Bedford.

Banks – Franklin (Hank) Banks of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis. Born July 2, 1936, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Frank Webster and Lorene (Greer) Banks. He married Carolyn Crane on November 30, 2000, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Susan Wardoff of Bedford, IN; one son, Steve Banks; one step-daughter, Angela Hofman of Bloomington, IN; four brothers: Mack Banks, John Banks, Chester Banks all of Lawrence County, IN, and Roger “Tiny” Banks of Washington, IN; one sister, Wanda Jackson of Bloomington, IN; mother-in-law, Icey Crane of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was employed as a paint & body technician at Opal Buick in Indianapolis and attended the Grace Baptist Church in Springville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Leach – Jack D. Leach of Holland, TX, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his residence. He was born December 2, 1930, in Veedersburg, IN. He married Gladys Hughes on February 21, 1970, in Bedford, IN, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are four sons: Dan and Dave Leach, both of Bedford, IN; Mark Arthur of Holland, TX, and Joe Arthur of Bloomfield, IN; two daughters, Sondra Miller of Marlin, TX, and Renee Leach of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Don Leach of Indianapolis; one sister, Jean Kennedy of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a self-employed manufacturer of custom chiropractic equipment. He was the owner and operator of the Great Southwest Restaurant in Belton, TX from 1991 to 2003.

Terrell – Aldine Terrell of Heltonville, IN, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his residence. Born July 11, 1935, in Mackville, KY, he was the son of Barney and Frances (Moore) Terrell. He was the eldest of eleven children.

Surviving are his companion, Irma Borden of Heltonville, IN; one daughter, Cathie Fischer of Orleans, IN; three grandchildren: Dustin Craig of Paoli, IN, Ryan Fischer, and Carrie Kennedy, both of Orleans, IN; two great-grandchildren; five brothers: Bill Terrell, Ronnie Terrell, both of Mitchell, IN; Eugene Terrell of Tunnelton, IN, Barney Terrell,Jr. of Springville, IN, and Larry Terrell of Norman, IN; five sisters: Peggy Bishop of Mitchell, IN, Ella Terrell of Alabama, Marilyn Durham of Burdine, KY, Yvonne Combs of Bedford, IN, and Carol Clem of Orleans, IN; many nieces and nephews; family of Irma Borden. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He worked at Bata Shoe Factory in Salem for 17 years, and was a security guard for IMCO in Bedford before retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 689, Order of Eagles No. 654, Bedford Boat and Sportsmens Club, and Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

Clark – Dorothy Opal (Carrico) Clark of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Bliss House in Bedford. Born June 13, 1911, in Bicknell, IN, she was the daughter of Dr. John Edward and Gertie (Yates) Carrico. She married Dr. Leonard Alvin Clark on May 14, 1939, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are three grandchildren: Christopher Jones of Chicago, IL, Karen Jones and her husband, Kerry, of Fort Wayne, IN, and Craig Jones and his wife, Kathleen, of West Lafayette, IN; four great-grandchildren: Lilwen, Faith, Madelyn and Abigail; one brother-in-law, James Fisher; and nephew, Jimmy Fisher, both of Bedford, IN; her niece, Ann Guedet, her husband Steve and their son, Nick, all of Rockford, Ill.; her nephew, Paul Heck, his wife Cindy and their sons, Alex and Jay, all of West Chester, Pa. She was preceded in death her husband, John Edward Clark; one daughter, Linda Kay Clark; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and William Heck; and one sister-in-law, Thelma Fisher.

She assisted her husband in his veterinary practice, helping to found the local rabies clinics, and had also been a teacher. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church, served a term as national president of Psi Iota Xi, held multiple other national offices in the sorority, and was an active local member for many decades. She was a volunteer for the auxiliary of the Bedford Medical Center and was a lifetime member of the women's auxiliary of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the auxiliary to the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association. She served for many years as a volunteer on the Bedford North Lawrence Scholarship committee.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22nd, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home of Bedford. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Easton – Jesse Hazel Easton of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born March 22, 1906, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Homer and May (Campbell) Speer. She married Emery Easton at Anderson in 1930, and he died in 1971.

Surviving are one sister, Mary Little and her husband, Dillard, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Sam Speer and his wife, Hope, of Madison, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Frances Jackman and Jean Clephane; and one brother, Roy Speer.

She was a retired clerk at Sears, Roebuck and Company in Indianapolis, and she had worked at the J.C. Penney Co. and the Times-Mail in Bedford. She was a member of the Midtown Church of Christ in Bedford.

Roberts – George Richard Roberts of Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at his residence. Born on July 7, 1929, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of William and Lura (Waggoner) Roberts. He married Opal June Fish, and she survives.

Surviving are one daughter, Lee Ann Burton of Orleans, IN; one son, Derek Mann; one half-sister, Waneta Wires of Orleans, IN; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Nelson – Rebecca Lee Nelson of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the Hospitality House. Born on July 19, 1948, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of John and Celia (Franklin) Nelson.

Surviving are her rather, John Nelson of Fort Myers, FL; her mother, Celia Hackney of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Sheila Hubbard of Bedford, IN; one son, Russell Pridemore of Atlanta, GA; two granddaughters, Jeanell Pridemore and Danielle Pridemore; two half-brothers, Tom Nelson of Florida and Tim Nelson of Indiana; and two half-sisters, Terri and Sherri, both of Indiana. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Gary Hubbard in 2003.

She was of Protestant faith.

Scherschel – Bonnie Sue Scherschel of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born December 21, 1953, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of William and Ada Ruth (Howell) Graham. She was formerly married to Donald J. Scherschel.

Surviving are one son, William Matthew Scherschel and April Johnson of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Jaime Lynn Kline and her husband, Josh, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Jackie L. Graham of Jeffersonville, IN; two sisters, Tammy Farley and Laura Reynolds, both of Orleans, IN; one step-sister, Sharon McHargue of Mitchell, IN; one aunt, Cora Nell Knight of Orleans, IN; one uncle, Ova Graham of Salem, IN; four granddaughters and five grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Wilma Graham; and two brothers, William Arthur and Jerry Dale Graham.

She was a homemaker and a 1971 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.

Allen – Bert Ancel Allen of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at StoneBridge Health Campus. Born on September 3, 1911, in the Leesville area of Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of James and Maggie (Weddell) Allen. He married Evelyn Arthur on April 6, 1947, in Indianapolis, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Allen, and one half-sister, Josie Maher.

He was a foreman for the State Highway Department and bulk plant operator for Diamond and Sunoco Oil Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having been awarded the Bronze Star with four Battle Stars for service during W.W. II. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion, and Cedar Lodge No. 61 F&AM, Masonic Lodge.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Brinegar officiating. Burial will follow in Leesville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday with a Masonic service conducted at 7 p.m.

Kurtz – Infant twins, Campbell Jane Kurtz and Carson Garon Kurtz, died on July 13 and July 14, 2005, respectively at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Crum – Peggy A. Crum of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 22, 1927, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Calvin K. and Kathryn Summitt. She married Walter William Crum on September 13, 1947, and he died on November 25, 1989.

Survivors include one daughter, Evangelist Cheryl Crum of Bedford; three granddaughters, Mary Staggs and her husband, Mike, Peggy Stines and her husband, Tim, all of Bedford, IN, and Valerie Powers and her husband, Stan, of Springville, IN; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; one brother, Teddy Summitt of Oolitic, IN; three special friends, Ralph McGlothlin of Harrodsburg, Chris Roberts of Ellettsville and Alice Fish of Bedford. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Judy Dianne Jones; one grandson, Jimmie Jones, Jr.; two brothers, David Summitt and Calvin Kedrick Summitt, Jr.; five sisters: Jean Anderson, Barbara McPike, Joy Moore, Patsy Clayton and Carol (in infancy).

She was a homemaker and attended the Way of the Cross Tabernacle in Martinsville.

Searle-Schrader – Danny Searle-Schrader of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on July 8, 1955, in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of Charles and Norma (Pratt) Schrader. He married Elizabeth (Betsy) Searle on May 21, 1977, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are his mother of Stratford, CT; two daughters, Sarah Goodrich of Burlington, VT, and Rebecca (Becci) Searle-Schrader of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Robert Schrader of Trumbull, CT; and two sisters, Dorothy Steffany of Stratford, CT, and Elizabeth Schrader of Long Hill, CT. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Schrader.

He and his wife have been directors at Camp Rivervale in Mitchell. A 1973 graduate of Bunnell High School, he was named the 1972 Civitan Youth of the Year in Stratford, and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. He has had various other careers including chef, professional EMT, mental health therapy aide, camp director, and facilities manager. He was a member of the St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church in New York City.

Casada – Beulah Eads Casada of Dechard, TN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the South Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester, TN. Born January 11, 1911, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Albert and Annie (Lewis) Allen. She married Winfred Eads on May 2, 1927, and he died December 19, 1980. She later married Opal Casada on July 21, 1984, and he died February 20, 1993.

Surviving are two sons, Gordon Eads of Greenwood, IN, and Jerry Eads of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Marjorie Murray of Melbourne, FL and Carolyn Bradford of Estill Springs, TN; two step-daughters, Barbera Graves of Bedford, IN, and Marlene Emery of Bloomington, IN; seventeen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands; one son, Dale Eads; one granddaughter, Tammy Bradford; and one grandson, Stevie Pruitt.

She was retired from M. Fine & Sons in Bedford. She was a founding member of the Judah Church of Christ, a member of the American Red Cross, AARP and life-long member of Dunn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Houston – Rebecca "Becky" Suzanne Houston, 33 Bedford, IN, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born September 23, 1971, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Larry and Barbara (Matuga) Houston.

Surviving are her parents, Larry "Butch" and Barbara Houston of Bedford, IN; one sister, Krista Parnin and her husband, Thomas, of Appleton, WI; one nephew, Noah Parnin of Appleton, WI; maternal grandmother, Mary Matuga of Munster, IN; three aunts: Sammie Kay Polley and her husband, Jim, of Bedford, IN, Janice Ford and her husband, William, of Chandler, AZ, and Joan Konratick and her husband, Metro, of Rockville, MD; two uncles, Richard Matuga of Munster, IN, and Joseph Matuga and his wife, Pam, of Waialua, Hawaii; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Oran "Sam" and Helen Houston, and her maternal grandfather, Joseph Matuga.

She was a 1989 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington and Oakland City University of Bedford. She served as guest speaker on Students with Disabilities at Indiana University, received the chancellor's Certificate of Achievement from Indiana University, and received the Student of the Month Award from Oakland City University Bedford. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford.

McClure – Mary Elizabeth McClure of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born October 3, 1919 in Lawrence County. She married Russell L. McClure in 1936, and he died November 5, 1986.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth McClure and wife, Marilyn, of Mitchell, IN; three daughters: Connie Mundy and husband, Keith, of Mitchell, IN, Dolores Ann McClure, and Carolyn McClure and partner, J. R. Ream, all of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren: Debra Arthur, Doug McClure, Cheri Mundy Stout, and Guy Mundy; great-grandchildren: Chad Reynolds, Curtis McClure, Travis Reynolds, Allie Stout, Caroline Mundy, and Nick Mundy. She was preceded in death by her husband; and sisters, Martha Tanksley, Ellen Reed, and Agatha Head.

She was a former cashier at the JayC Store, and had been employed at Spring Mill State Park, Mills Market, and in the office of the Lawrence County Assessor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Clark – Pearl S. Clark of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 25, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William A. and Leona (Mark) Todd. She married Ralph W. Clark November 25, 1933, and he died August 31, 1960.

Surviving are one daughter, Polly A. Hooker, of South Bend, IN; one son, Todd Clark and wife, Darlene, of Laguna Niguel, CA; one sister, Cora Pope, of New Castle, IN; one sister-in-law, Helen Todd, of Bedford, IN; grandchildren: Paula Schreiber, Melisa Rodgers, Michele Winer, Patrick Hooker, and Todd Clark, Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers: Earl, Ralph, Olin, Howard, Frank, Kenneth, and Harry Todd; and sisters: Bessie Hilderbrand and Dessie Todd (in infancy).

She was formerly employed in the Mitchell High School cafeteria. She graduated from Heltonville High School in 1931, was a member of the Mitchell First Baptist Church, and a former member of the Prim Priscilla Home Extension Club, Fleur de Lis, and Tri Kappa.

Staggs – Dwight Moody Staggs of Bedford, IN, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at his residence. Born December 26, 1929, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Mitchell and Alice (Jones) Staggs. He was married to Marjorie Jane Kirkman for 49 years, and she died January 9, 1998. He married Rachel L. (Jones) Fleetwood July 25, 1998, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Cynthia Cupps and Cathy Kopsho, both of Bedford, IN; two sons, Dwight Wayne Staggs of Indianapolis and Jeff Staggs of Tyner, KY; one step-daughter, Lynette Dugger of Mitchell, IN; four step-sons: James Fleetwood of French Lick, IN, Warren Fleetwood of Fort Branch, IN, David Fleetwood of Hardinsburg, IN, and Ryan Fleetwood of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, June Pierce and Norma Gail Armstrong, both of Bedford, IN; one brother, Danny Staggs of Bedford, IN; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife; one brother, Vollie Staggs; and one sister, Eva Anderson.

He had been employed at RCA in Bloomington for 16 years and was owner of Staggs TV Repair. He was a deacon and member of Grace Tabernacle Church in Orleans. He was a ham radio operator and a State Champion Checker player.

Lewis – George Robert Lewis of Bedford, IN, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at Fountainbleu Nursing Home in Bloomington. Born June 12, 1933, in Jasonville, IN, he was the son of George E. and Hazel (Atkinson) Lewis. He married Jo Ann Duggins on March 1, 1958, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Robert Scott Lewis and his wife, Debbie, and Don Shaw, all of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Lori Brown and her husband, Jay, of Bedford, IN, and Lisa Speer and her husband, Dane, of Mitchell,IN; nine grandchildren: Rachel Derheimer and her husband Kyle of Bremerton, WA, Sarah Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Allison Speer, Braden Speer and Jenna Speer, all of Mitchell, IN, and Dane Irwin, Derick Irwin and Alesha Brown, all of Bedford, IN; one brother, Dave Lewis of Terre Haute, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was employed in maintenance at GM Powertrain in Bedford for 30 years, retiring in 1996; and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 440; and Bedford Boat and Sportsman's Club.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Tyree – Charles Horace Tyree of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at his residence. Born August 31, 1920, in Sullivan County, IN, he was the son of Charles F. and Oleva (Wood) Tyree. He married Marjorie Jeanette Hawkins on June 2, 1946, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Janice Menaugh and her husband, Brad, of Mitchell, IN; one grandson: Brice Menaugh; and one granddaughter: Dr. Brooke Adams and her husband, Josh, all from TN, his twin sister, Deloris Edwards of Ocala, FL and one niece and several nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Sammy Tyree in 1969; five brothers and two sisters.

He retired from General Motors and farming. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church, UAW Local 440, trustee for Knot Cemetery and served on the South Lawrence Water Board for many years.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 9th, at the Englewood Baptist Church with Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 1:00 -8:00 p.m. on Friday at Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9:00 a.m. until the service time Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Englewood Baptist Church Building Fund

Owen – Mark Ellsworth Owen of Oolitic, IN, died July 5, 2005, at his residence. Born April 19, 1951, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Ferrell E. Owen and Lucy (Canada) Owen. He married Shirley Graves and she preceded him in death.

Surviving are one brother, Clayton Owen of Ft. Wayne, IN; cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 am, Friday, July 8th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Collier – Daisy Marie "Re Re" Collier of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born January 19, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James David and Laura Evaline (Hughes) Collier.

Surviving are children, Shirley D. Beyers of Bedford, IN, and David C. Crane of Little Cincinnati, IN, both of whom were raised in her home; one sister, Jessie Collier of Bedford; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one niece, Sylvia Graham; one nephew, Kenny Fisher, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Evaline "Dolly" Collier; and 14 brothers and sisters.

She was employed by GM Powertrain of Bedford. She was of the Pentecostal faith, and she was a member of the Local Union UAW No. 440.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6th, at Cresthaven Funeral Home of Bedford with Brother Bud Smith and the Rev. Kenneth Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Dixon Chapel Cemetery in Leesville. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service today at the funeral home.

Dumond – Pauline Dumond of Huron, IN, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at her daughter's residence. Born December 19, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Jesse and Nannie (Beavers) Tolbert. She married Everett Dumond July 26, 1947, in Lawrence County, and he died on December 15, 1991.

Surviving are three children: Sharon Mathews and her husband, Hank, of Huron, IN, Becky Keltner and her husband, Jack, of Mitchell, IN, and Gerald Dumond and his wife, Suzanne, of Huron, IN; one brother, Harold Dumond and his wife, Suzanne, of Williams, IN; 17 grandchildren: Tracy Winkler and her husband Dave, Tricia Hodges, Trent Mundy and his wife Sandra, Ty Mathews and his wife Beth, Troy Mathews and his wife Mandy, Travis Mathews and his wife Lana, Christopher Mathews, Jacey Hall and her husband Reed, Jonathan Keltner, Lloyd Keltner and his wife Marlene, Amie Atkisson and her husband Bill, Anne Moss and her husband Chris, Ashleigh Dumond, Matthew White and his wife Tracy, Jared White and his wife Jennifer, Chad White and his wife Tanya and Adam Dumond; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers: Armel and Arthur Tolbert; and five sisters: Pearl Harrell, Anna Bex, Genevieve Eisele, Mildred Tolbert and Marie Tolbert.

She was a homemaker and a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Shoals.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6 at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial will be in Port Williams Cemetery in Williams. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eagan – Thelma H. Eagan of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Westview Manor. Born on May 25, 1927, in Marion County, IN, she was the daughter of Ralph and Fannie (Underwood) Tolliver.

Surviving are one daughter, Phyllis Padgett of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Edith Lantz of Indianapolis, Mildred Schlenker of Bedford, IN, Shirley Webster of Mitchell, IN, and Brenda Magers of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren: Brandon Eagan and Nathan and Megan Padgett; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Robbie Eagan; three brothers: Donald Tolliver, Chet Tolliver and Ralph Tolliver; and two sisters: Catherine Tolliver (in childhood) and Rachel "Rose" Brown.

She was a nurse's aide for many years and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Mitchell.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Beech Grove Cemetery in Bedford, with Pastor Homer Roberts officiating. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Day & Carter Mortuary of Bedford.
