06/30/02

Staggs – Ronnie D. Staggs, Jr. of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on July 15, 1965, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ronnie D. Staggs and Harvetta (Tincher) Smith. HE married Cari Spaulding on September 7, 200, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Brooke Staggs of Arkansas; one brother, Marty Staggs of Bedford, IN; grandmothers, Nina Staggs of Bedford, IN, and Dorothy Tincher of Needmore, IN. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James A. Tincher and Vernon Staggs.

He was a maintenance welder for Elliott Limestone Co. for seventeen years. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, National Street Rod Association, and Good Guys Rod & Custom Association.

Services for Ronnie Staggs will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3rd, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Bernie Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus in Bedford.

Bryant – Nellie G. Bryant of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home. Born on March 3, 1915, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lee and Lussetta (Etchison) Chapman. She married Frank O. Bryant on December 7, 1940, and he died on March 12, 1994.

Surviving are two sons: Gerald "Bud" Bryant and wife, Carol, of Schaumburg, IL, and Johnie L. Bryant and wife, Dianna, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Iva Tincher of Mitchell, IN; eight grandchildren: Crystal Prout, Leslie Mueller, Susan Major and Matthew Bryant, all of the Schaumburg, IL, area, Mark Bryant and Marcie Ziebell, both of Mitchell, IN, John "Rob" Bryant of Noblesville, IN, and Rachel Bryant of Fishers, IN; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers: Elbert, Everett, Leland, Ernest Melvin, and Roy Chapman; one sister, Pearl Hauenstein; and one son, Max Bryant.

She was a homemaker and a graduate of Williams (IN) High School. She was a member of Bryantsville Church of Christ, where she was a longtime active member.

Services for Nellie Bryant will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bryantsville Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Baker – Barbara Jean Baker of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June, 28, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on March 26, 1930, in Oolitic, IN, she was the daughter of Hobart and Pearl (Baker) Webb. She married Gene F. Baker on May 29, 1954, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, Steve Aronson and William Gene Baker, both of Bedford, IN; four daughters: Vicky Lynn Beedie, Janet Carter, and Linda Kay Breedlove, all of Bedford, IN, and Sandra S. Butler of Orleans, IN; one brother, Gordon Baker Webb of Bedford, IN; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: William Kenneth Webb, James Frederick Webb, and one brother in infancy; one sisters, Marjorie Jewell Warner; two grandchildren, Ted Beedie and Annette Brewer; and one great-grandchild, James Godsey.

She retired from GM Powertrain and was a member of Dive Christian Church.

Services for Barbara Baker will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 1st at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Quinn – Lola Mae Quinn of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at her residence. Born on February 4, 1921, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Frank and Mariah (Moffatt) Allen. She married Norman Quinn on December 25, 1940, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are three sons: Edward Quinn of Bloomington, IN, Roger Quinn of Stanford, KY, and Fred Quinn of Whitehouse, OH; one daughter, Rita Maul of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Lester Allen of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Faustina Worsham of Deland, FL, and Jan Evans of Greenwood, IN; six grandsons: Nathan Quinn, Jeremy Quinn, David Quinn, Jason Quinn, Derek Maul, and Ryan Maul; four granddaughters: Maribeth Beckley, Melissa Quinn, Jessica Quinn, and Jennifer Maul. She was preceded in death by her parents: four brothers: Harry, Homer, Arthur, and Ray Allen; and three sisters: Ruby Marshall, Maudie Watterson, and Roxie Williams.

She was a homemaker and a member of a nondenominational church.

Services for Lola Quinn will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 1st, at Haverly Mortuary with Troy Craig, Rollie Sarver, and Gary Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until the service time Monday at Haverly Mortuary.

Remsik – Pauline A. Remsik of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Manor Care South in Indianapolis. Born on March 7, 1914, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Herbert and Effie Hackler.

Surviving are one daughter, Wanda Mize Beretta of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Sylvester Hackler of Martinsville, IN; seven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Robert Mize in 1952.

She was a factory worker and M. Fine & Sons and retired from NWSC Crane. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Services for Pauline Remsik will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Father Bernie Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from noon until the service time Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Patton – Phillip D. Patton of Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Williams, IN, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage. Born on July 14, 1947, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Dewey and Annabelle (Cessna) Patton.

Surviving are his parents of Smyrna, TN; four brothers: Gary, Duane, Peter, and Greg Patton, all of Tennessee; two sisters, Susan Patton Kindred and Gwen Patton Booth, both of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Harold and Frances Cessna and Dewey and Olive Patton.

He was a truck driver.

There will be graveside services for Phillip Patton at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3rd, at Williams Cemetery with Bro. Leroy Inman officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Patton – William Eugene "Gene" Patton of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on October 7, 1929, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of William Silas and Lillian (Wilson) Patton. He married Rudeen Luttrell on August 9, 1952.

Surviving are three daughters: Teresa Lynn Swenson and husband, Gary; Denise Ann Turner and husband, Lee; and Leasa Mae Francis and husband, Clarence; companion, Karen Beasley; two sisters, Barbara Parker and Gloria Mae McKeaigg; one brother, Arnold Dean Patton; five grandsons, three granddaughters, six great-grandchildren, and his companion's two daughters, Kelly and Misty. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Patton; and two sisters, Peggy Terrell and Diana Patton.

He was a carpenter by trade. He had attended Patton Hill School and served in the Navy.

Services for William Patton will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 1st, at Charity Chapel with Pastor Rebekah Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery. Terry – Carolyn Sue Terry of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, June 27th, at her residence. Born on May 1, 1941, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Greenie and Ruby (York) Mounce. She married Harold Dean Terry on December 10, 1960, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Doreen Edwards and Tammy Richardson, both of Bedford, IN; one son, Danny Terry of Mitchell, IN; four sisters: Dorothy Terrell, Sharon Craig, and Judy Kern, all of Mitchell, IN, and Betty Hart of Norman, IN; three brothers: Jake Mounce of Orleans, IN, Bert Mounc and Danny Mounce, both of Mitchell, IN; and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Mounce.

She was a member of Lovingway Apostolic Church in Bedford.

Services for Carolyn Terry will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Bros. Curtis Kern, Leslie Hart, and Wesley Stephenson officiating. Reynolds – Benjamin F. Reynolds, Jr. of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Hendricks Community Hospital at Danville, IN; Born on December 21, 1921, in Bono Township in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Benjamin and Sybil (Kelly) Reynolds. He married Marie Gayle Bocock on May 6, 1942, and she died May 23, 1990.

Surviving are one son, Ron Reynolds of Plainfield, IN; two brothers, Bill Reynolds of Beaumont, CA, and Dave Reynolds, CA; one sister, Helen Smallwood of Franklin, IN; two half-brothers, Robert Reynolds of Spencer, IN, and Roger Reynolds of Nashua, NH; one half-sister, Miriam King of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Holly Reynolds of Plainfield, IN, and Eric Reynolds of Avon, IN; and two great-granddaughters, Carsyn and Grace Reynolds of Avon, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife; five brothers: Harold, Forrest, Thomas, Stanley, and Larry Reynolds; three sisters: Sarah Garrison, Margaret Allen, and Sylvia Reynolds; and two half-sisters, Loretta Douglas and Nancy Reynolds.

He was a retired employee of Carpenter Body Works in Mitchell and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post 250.

Services for Benjamin Reynolds will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29th, at Haverly Mortuary with Bro. Ron McClain officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceport Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post 250 and V.F.W. Post 9107. Spaulding – Anna Spaulding of Oolitic, IN, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the Hospitality House. Born on August 28, 1915, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Matt and Mary (Morris) Ratkovich. She married Carroll Spaulding on July 31, 1937, and he died May 13, 1969.

Surviving are one daughter, Rita Lantz of Oolitic, IN; one son-in-law, Leonard Bridges of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, John Ratkovich of Fayetteville, N, and Daniel Ratkovich of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Katie Poole, Rosa Taylor, Mildred Ratkovich, and Josephine Strunk, all of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren: John Spaulding of Spring Hill, FL, James Spaulding of Bedford, IN, Scott Bridges of Hamilton, OH, Beth Kalnajs of Ellettsville, IN, Heather Burress of Westphalia, IN, Lori Butterfield of Mitchell, IN, and Whitney Lantz of Oolitic, IN; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, John Spaulding; one daughter, Carole Kay Bridges; one brother, Michael (in infancy); and one sister, Amanda Skidmore.

She was a homemaker and of Protestant faith.

Walls – Ronald A. Walls of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on March 15, 1948, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Alpha Clarence and Della Mae (Johnson) Walls. He married Patty M. Terry on June 16, 1966, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Adam Troy Walls of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Amy Norris and Brittney Say-Lee Walls , both of Bedford, IN; two granddaughters, Catie Shelton and Taylor Norris; one brother, Victor Walls of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Mae Parsley of Owensburg, IN, Betty Parsley of Springville, IN, Sue Hearth and Joyce Chaillaux, both of Bedford, IN; his step-mother-in-law, Nadine Terry of Mitchell, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elsworth Walls; and two sisters, Luci Dove and Dutch Lockhart.

He was a foreman at Newco Metals in Needmore, IN, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Viet Nam Conflict.

Lessig – Julia M. Lessig of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on December 23, 1985, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Orval and Kelly (Chastain) Lessig.

Surviving are her parents, Kelly Lessig of Bedford, IN, and Orval Lessig of Huron, IN; two sisters, Rusti Lessig and Kaitlyn Lessig, both of Bedford, IN; grandparents, Frank and Margie Chastain of Bedford, IN, Charles and Dianna Chastain of Mitchell, IN, and Leroy Lessig of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Imilda Lessig.

She would have been a junior at Mitchell High School and was presented the first Julia Lessig Character Award by the Mitchell High School Memorial Chapter of SADD on April 9, 2002.

Services for Julia Lessig will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28th, at Woodville Baptist Church with the Revs. Glenn Hamer and Ronnie McLain officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the service time Friday at the church. Beaver – Ralph C. Beaver of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 22, 2002. He was born on February 18, 1917.

Surviving are one son, Danny Beaver of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Loretta Cranfield of Bedford, IN; one brother, Harold Beaver of Bedford, IN; one sister, Priscilla Chastain of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Doane – Marie Janet Doane of Greenwood, IN, died Tuesday, June 22, 2002, at her residence. Born on December 27, 1933, she was the daughter of Russell and Pearl (Smaltz) Perry. She married Edmund Doane on April 27, 1957, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband is one son, Michael Doan of Illinois; three daughters: Leann Pace of Kentucky, Amy Youngling of Spencer, IN, and Melissa Robertson of Unionville, IN; one brother, William Perry of Bryantsville, IN; seven sisters: Margaret Crites of Paragon, IN, Charlotte Hearn and Mary Mellott, both of California, Jill Benton of Arizona, Nancy Meadows of Greenwood, IN; Linda Taylor of Monrovia, IN; and Ellen Mitchell of Bloomington, IN; eight grandchildren, several nices, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Roger Doane; one sister, Carolyn Sesma; one brother, Kenn Perry; two grandsons, Kenny May and Dennis James Youngling.

She retired as an insurance agent for Keach & Grove Insurance Company in Bedford, IN.

Services for Marie Doane will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Farrell Sowders officiating. Burial will follow at a later date. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Gerkin – Evelyn L. Gerkin of Portage, IN, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, IN. Born on September 27, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lonnie and Sylvia (Holt) Tincher. She married Lewis Gerkin on August 2, 1947, and he died October 17, 1995.

Surviving are one son, Timothy A. "Andy" Gerkin and wife, Becky, of Portage, IN; one daughter, Veronica Sue Simon and husband, Eric, of Dallas, TX; four brothers: Lloyd Tincher and wife, Pat, of Suisun, Ca, Vern Tincher and wife, Linda, of Terre Haute, IN, Calvin Tincher and wife, Mary, of Bedford, IN, and Frank Tincher of Bloomington; one sister, Pat Maxwell and husband, Bill, of Bradenton, FL; and three grandchildren: Meagan Gerkin, Matt Simon, and Becky Simon. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Elizabeth Wright and Janet Mundy.

She had been employed in food service by the Portage Schools.

Hayes – Marvel Loretta Grace Hayes of Arcadia, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at her granddaughter's residence (Kim and Brian Reynolds) in Bedford, IN. Born on December 28, 1929, in Brush, CO, she was the daughter of Guy and Anna (Clark) Wetzbarger. She married Donald Reed Hayes, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one son, Ronald Dewayne Reynolds of Bedford, IN; one step-son, Michael Reed Hayes of Bedford, IN; two step-daughters, Bonnie Jean Moser of Bedford, IN, and Loretta Darlene Dotts of Mitchell, IN; three brothers: Cecil Wetzbarger of Ft. Morgan, CO, Bobbie Wetzbarger of Brush, CO, and Kenneth Wetzbarger of Brush, CO; three sisters: Ethel Schippert and Geneva Grippin, both of Brush, CO, and Nellie Lesser of Loveland, CO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Everett Wetzbarger, and one sister, Esther Grippin.

She formerly worked at Sarkes Tarzian and NWSC Crane.

There will be a memorial service for family and close friends at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. There will be a reception one hour prior to the memorial service. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

O'Dell – Goldie O'Dell of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on June 5, 1912, in Marion County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Morgan) Hatfield. She married Ted Arnold, then Roy M. Crafton, the John O'Dell. All three husbands preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Bartley of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three husbands; one son, Robert Lesley Arnold; two brothers, Jimmy and Alfred Hatfield; two sisters, Betty and Letha; ad one granddaughter, Molly Arnold.

She was a salesperson in Bedford and in Florida. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, TOPS Club, and the Home Demonstration Club.

Services for Goldie O'Dell will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Shedd – Anna Mae Shedd of Gilmer, TX, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, in Gilmer, TX. She was born on October 12, 1915, in Lawrence County, IN. She married LaVerne Shedd, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Shedd of Hurst, TX, and Lynn Shedd of Gilmer, TX; three grandchldren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.

Crulo – Eva Mae Crulo of Bedford, IN, formerly of Avoca, IN, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on December 3, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Laurel and Maggie (Holmes) Houpt. She married Howard Crulo in 1932, and he died in 1953.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Linda Crulo and Phil and Rosie Crulo, all of Avoca, IN, and Bob and Karen Crulo of Bedford, IN; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed Richardson of Arivaca, AZ; one sister, Betty Stevenson of Springville, IN; thirteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Lloyd Houpt; and two sisters, June Zehr and Lois Kirkman.

She was owner of Crulo Trucking Company in Avoca and a member of the Avoca Baptist Church.

Services for Eva Crulo will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 24th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Kirkman and Pastor Kyle Witmer officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the service time Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Greathouse – Anthony S. Greathouse of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 20, 2002. Born on February 2, 1957, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Jerry L. and Mary E. (Hackler) Greathouse.

Surviving are his father and step-mother, Jerry and Dodie Greathouse of Florida; two sisters, Monta Conner and Vonda Owens, both of Bedford, IN; two sons, Pvt. Garrett Greathouse of Kentucky and Tyler Greathouse of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Ellisha Hogue of Georgia; one granddaughter, four step-brothers, several nieces and nephews, and his former wife and friend, Paula Greathouse. He was preceded in death by his mother and special friend, Rhonda Hogue.

He was a contractor and a member of Charity Chapel in Bedford.

There will be a memorial service for Anthony Greathouse at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25th, at Charity Chapel with the Rev. Becky Ryan officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Wingler – Vernia L. Wingler of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 17, 1922 in Kentucky. She married Edgar Wingler.

Surviving are one son, Mark Wingler of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Brenda McKnight of Arizona; one step-daughter, Evalyn Charles of Bedford, IN; one step-son, John York of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Dorothy Hardwick, and one step-son, Edward York.

The body will be cremated. There will be no service or calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Grubb – Ruth "Lucille" Grubb of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on May 3, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Louis and Pearl (Branaman) Wilkerson. She married Clarence Grubb in 1940 in Lawrence County, IN, and he died on March 31, 2000.

Surviving are three daughters: Carolyn Kay Bohnet of Denver, CO, Connie Chastain of Bedford, IN, and Jeanne Warren of Martinsville, IN; two sons: Larry Grubb of Bloomington, IN, and Jackie Grubb of Bedford, IN; one sister, Laverne Grubb of Bedford, IN; two half-sisters, Martha Dalton of Bloomington, IN, and Mary Owen of Bedford, IN; one half-brother, Paul Wilkerson of Bloomington, IN; nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Pauline Hanners, and two sisters in infancy; one half-brother, Sam Wilkerson; and one granddaughter, Tina Marie Chastain;

She retired from M. Fine Mfg. and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Hall – Russell E. Hall of Williams, IN, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at his residence. Born on April 26, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ernest and Mamie (Mitchell) Hall. He married Marjorie Sheetz on May 30, 1948, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Jon Hall and Carl Hall, both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Debbie Brewer of Williams; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert; and one sister, Maxine Bowman.

He retired from NWSC Crane after thirty years and was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Williams Church of Christ, NARFE, and American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Taylor – Louis T. Taylor of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, June 19th, at Westview Manor. Born on December 19, 1923, in Oolitic, IN, he was th4 son of John and Maude (Moore) Taylor. He married Carol Ruth Stickles on September 4, 1948, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three sons: Mark T. Taylor and Robert L. Taylor, both of Bedford, IN, and Danny G. Taylor of Greenwood, IN; one sister, Ruby Sutherlin of Martinsville, IN; one brother, Russell Taylor of Martinsville, IN; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, James L. Taylor, and one brother, James B. Taylor.

He was a retired metal worker at Fabricast Division of G.M. and was a veteran of W.W. II, serving with the U.S. Army.

Baker – Lonnis L. Baker of Springville, IN, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on August 10, 1940, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Theodore and Doris (Turner) Baker. He married Janet Martindale on April 3, 1959, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Lesa Sanders of Solsberry, IN, and Bobbie Chambers of Springville, IN; four sons: Jimmy Baker of Springville, IN, Lonnie Baker of Solsberry, IN, Billy Baker of Bloomfield, IN, and Larry Baker of Springville, IN; two sisters, Alma Baker of Bedford, IN, and Shirley Jones of Orleans, IN; two brothers, Max Baker and Orin Baxter, both of Bedford, IN; eighteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Baker; and his step-father, Lester Baxter.

He was formerly employed at RCA in Bloomington and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Chapel Hill and Solsberry Pentecostal Churches.

Martin – Norma L. Martin of Chandler, AZ, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at her residence. Born on December 16, 1932, in Norman, IN, she was the daughter of Ray and Evadna (Volton) Cummings. She married Robert Martin on June 8, 1951, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sisters, Betty Horton of Indianapolis, IN, and Delores Mason of Evansville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Hicks – Vernon O. Hicks, Jr. of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Midtown Nursing & Rehab Center in Indianapolis. Born on March 23, 1934, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Vernon O. and Ollie S. (Sproles) Hicks, Sr. He married Julia E. (Judy) Adams on June 15, 1963, and she died November 14, 1991.

Surviving are four daughters: Jeani Canfield of Bedford, IN, Cindy Carter of Oooitic, IN, Marsha Aynes of Bloomington, IN, and Amber George; three sisters: Mary Turner of Bedford, IN, Ruby Nelson of East Oolitic, IN, and Alice Wilson of Texas; two brothers, William W. Hicks and Robert E. Hicks, both of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Mary Beth Ramsey; one brother, Sam J. Hicks; and one grandson.

He was retired from Indiana Limestone and was a member of Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge in Bedford.

Fultz – Ralph Richard Fultz of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Westview Manor. Born on July 10, 1918, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Dair and Gretchen (Tow) Fultz. He married Virginia Ruth Root on July 9, 1938, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Kathleen Davis and husband, Bob, of Bedford, IN; two sons, Steve Fultz and Scott Fultz and wife, Barbara, all of Bedford, IN; caregiver, Judi Fender; one sister, Virginia Beaman of Arlington, VA; one brother, Charles R. Fultz of Champaign, IL; four grandchildren: Noelle Jean and husband, Ross, Janele Deckard and husband, Carey, Stacy Thacker and husband, Kent, Michael Davis and wife, Kathy; and five great grandchildren: Dairen Jean, Dominick Jean, Madelyn Deckard, Meredith Deckard, and Sarah Thacker.

He was the past president of Fultz Auto (NAPA) in Bedford, Mitchell, and Martinsville. He was of the Protestant faith and was a member of Bedford Elks Lodge, fifty year and life member of Bedford Lodge #14 F&AM, and Fraternal Order of Police.

Sanders – Iva V. Sanders of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at her residence. Born on December 20, 1925, in Jackson County, IN, she was the daughter of Norval and Dora (Clark) Flinn. She married Hansel L. Sanders on December 20, 1946, and he died December 5, 1994.

Surviving are one son, Gary L. Sanders and wife, Susan, of Bedford, IN; two daughters: Judy L. Sampson and husband, Jesse, of Orleans, IN, and Reida K. Cummings and husband, Dennis, of Heltonville, IN; three sisters: Mrs. Chris Hardwick of Carlsbad, CA, Mrs. Marguerite Cain of Bedford, IN, and Mrs. Mary Brown of Columbus, IN; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers: Roy, Herman, and Earl Flinn; and two sisters, Ruby George and Louise Sovern.

She was a homemaker and a member of Hillcrest Christian Church.

Blackwell – Amy Renae Blackwell of Oolitic, IN, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at her residence. Born on February 12, 1959, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Philip B. and Judith A. (Menaugh) Blackwell.

Surviving are one son, Jason Parsley and wife, Lisa, of Oolitic, IN; one daughter, Emilee Spreen and husband, Trevor, of Bedford, IN; her parents, Philip B. and Judith A. Blackwell of Bedford, IN; one sister, Ann Caraway and husband, Charlie, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Andrew Blackwell and wife, June, of Bedford, IN; one grandson, Camden Spreen; paternal grandfather, Richard B. Blackwell of Bedford, IN; four nieces, one nephew, and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Delone Menaugh; maternal grandparents, Carl V. and Ruth Fish Menaugh Fry; and paternal grandmother, Nina M. Blackwell.

A 1977 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, she was currently working at Planned Parenthood in Bloomington, IN, and had worked in the medical field in Lab and Administrative Support at Dunn Hospital and Bloomington Hospital. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

Lohmeyer – Mary Ruth Lohmeyer of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 23, 1921, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Samuel Rex and Carrie (Lee) Stout. She married Cecil Lohmeyer, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are one sister, Helen VonStrohe of Bedford, IN; one daughter-in-law, Annette Hicks of Avoca, IN; one sister-in-law, Nancy Stout of Bedford, IN; faithful companion, Baby Dorian; special friends, Carolyn Good of Bedford, IN, and Richard and Naomi Corbin of Spencer, IN; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Steven K. Lohmeyer; and four brothers: Talmadge, Frederick, Robert, and Leonard Stout.

She retired from RCA in Bloomington after 28 years of service, and formerly owned and operated the Little Italy Pizzaria in Mitchell, IN. She attended the Living Word Church and Bedford Baptist Temple in Bedford and was a member of the Retirees Club of RCA.

Surviving are the parents of Bedford, IN; one brother, Marcus Donald Fish, at home; one sister, Abby Danielle Fish, at home; grandparents: Donald and Shirley Fish of Bedford, IN, and Danny and Jonna Pemberton of Mitchell, IN; great-grandparents: Mary Ely, Jaunita Pemberton, and James and Kay Ely, all of Mitchell, IN; and great-great-grandmother, Sally Hopper of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, Winfred "Wink" Pemberton.

Zachary – Artia Belle Zachary of Bedford, IN, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 27, 1912, in Montgomery County, IN, she was the daughter of Mirt and Melvina (Strode) Wilshire. She married Lloyd Zachary in 1932, and he died in 1961.

Surviving are two daughters, Jenny Lawrence of Bedford, IN, and Barbara Bergen of Green castle, IN; two sisters, Mabel Johnson of Crawfordsville, IN, and Vernia Gibson of Danville, IN; and one brother, George Wilshire of Crawfordsville, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Harry Wilshire; and one sister, Roberta Zachary.

She had worked at several area florists. She was a member of Sherwood Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star, both in Greencastle, IN.

Neeley – Benjamin C. Neeley of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on April 2, 1924, in Rhoda, VA, he was the son of Dock and Myrtle (Hines) Neeley. He married Mabel Roop on January 30, 1946, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three sons: Ben Neeley and Dale Neeley, both of Bedford, IN, and Merle Neeley of Mitchell, IN; three daughters: Carolyn Fortner, Diana Hall, and Him Neeley, all of Bedford, IN; five sisters: Nina Kinser of Michigan, Reba Chambers, Betty Hiestand, and Shirley Foddrill, all of Bedford, IN, and Wilma Magnus of Crane, IN; fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Bob Neeley and three in infancy; one granddaughter, Kelli Neeley; and daughter-in-law, Dianna Neeley.

He worked for the highway department in Virginia and retired from General Motors in Bedford in 1983. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Signal Corp, and was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Surviving are one daughter, Nyoka Cox of Bedford, IN; one son, Mark Harris and his wife, Lorna, of Bedford, IN; her mother, Artis White of Bedford, IN; and five grandchildren: Darian Cox, Taylor Cox, Brooke Harris, Bailey Harris, and Brianna Harris, all of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by her father.

She was a homemaker and was a 1971 graduate of Tunnelton (IN) High School. She was a member of the Leesville Methodist Church.

Allen – Myrtle Ivan Allen of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at the Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on December 10, 1903, in Salem, IN, in Washington County, she was the daughter of James B. Charles and Margaret Ellen (Bush) Pennington. She married Lotus Allen on December 24, 1924. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Robert Allen of Peoria, IL, and Raymond Lee Allen of Bloomington, IN; two daughters, Bonnie Olive Housier of Bedford, IN, and Annabell Villani of Rochester, MI; five grandsons, six granddaughters, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, William Allen; four sisters, three brothers; and one grandson.

She did domestic work. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Ludeian Society, the Order of Easter Star, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem, all in Bedford.

Eversole – Edward S. Eversole, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Northlake Medical Center. Born on September 17, 1907, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Wallace and Sarah (Summers) Eversole. He married Estes Young in 1936, and she died in 1978.

Surviving are one son, Richard Eversole of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, John W. Eversole.

He was a retired from Roberts Brass. He was a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM and the Mitchcll Presbyterian Church.

Lee – Elizabeth Mae Lee of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on October 22, 1920, in Union County, KY, she was the daughter of Otha and Fannie (Hart) Babb. She married John Martin Lee on August 6, 1938, and he died July 3, 1991.

Surviving are two sons, Billie Lee of Bedford, IN, and Bobbie Lee of Tunnelton, IN; two sisters, Shirley Dame and Mildred Powell, both of Webster County, KY; one brother, Russell Babb of Webster County, KY; five grandchildren: David Lee, Mark Lee, Alan Lee, Troy Lee, and Morgan Lee; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, and four sisters.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Pinhook Church of Christ and the Erie Homemakers.

Watterson – John L. Watterson of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 25, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Charles and Nora (Collins) Watterson. He married Evelyn Pruett on April 12, 1947, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Susan Mayden and Debbie Watterson, both of Bedford, IN, and Karen Leslie of Charlott, NC; five sisters: Madge Reynolds, Mary Ruth Atchison, and Norma Tincher, all of Mitchell, IN, Clara Bryant of Albuquerque, NM, and Lorene Morrow of Marion, KY; two brothers, James Watterson of Zionsville, IN, and Isom watterson of Logansport, IN; five grandchildren: Mica Leslie, Brandon Mayden, Regan Leslie, Tiffany Mayden, and Derek Leslie. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Noble, Floyd, and Lester Watterson; and one sister, Adah Schmidt.

He was a retired employee of Central Foundry and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Tulip Street Christian Church and the UAW Local 440.

Foddrill – Kenneth D. "Shorty" Foddrill died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at White River Lodge. Born on April 10, 1911, in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of Earl and Nellie (Kinder) Foddrill. He married Mary M. Carter on August 13, 1933, in Jeffersonville, IN, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Kenny and his wife, Judi.

Shorty was a 1930 graduate of Bedford High School, where he was a cheerleader. He was a pipefitter for thirty-one years, retiring from McIntyre Bros in 1973. He was a member of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local #136 of Evansville for 60 years, a fifty-plus-year member of Otis Park, a 60-year member of Bedford Elks Lodge #826, and he attended the Presbyterian Church. After retiring, he and his wife spent several winters in Hollywood, FL.

Fields – Goldia I. Fields of Texas City, TX, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Danforth Gardens in Texas City, TX. Born on March 1, 1907, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of Mitchell and Mary (Lewis) Price. She married Warren Fields, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Judy Hudson of Texas City, TX; grandsons, Wyn Hudson and John Hudson; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Anna Belle Fields; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a Fountain Manager at S.S. Kresge Department Store, instituted a lunch program at Dive Community School in Lawrence County, and was a charter member of the Southland Church of Christ. She had been a resident of Texas City for the past twelve years.

Sexton – Roger Allen Sexton of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, in an accident on US 50, approximately one-half mile from Brownstown, as he was returning from work. Born on May 8, 1958, in Letcher County, KY, he was the son of Gilbert Henry and Wilma Joyce (Diamond) Sexton.

Surviving are one daughter, Stacey Marie Sexton of Bedford, IN; two sons, Robert Lemons of Bedford, IN, and Mark Allen Sexton of Orleans, IN; his mother, Wilma Joyce Gerkin of Bedford, IN; his fiance, Judy Ann Guess Sexton of Bedford, IN; two brothers, David Sexton of Bloomington, IN, and Bernard Dean Gerkin of Bedford, IN; five sisters: Jackie Reynolds of Bedford, IN, Brenda Baker of Springville, IN, Theresa Caswell of Williams, IN, Deborah Sexton of Avoca, IN, Wilma Jean Gerkin of Bloomington, IN; three grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Henrietta Sexton Pruett; one niece, Sarah Jane Pruett; one step-son, George Sexton; and one uncle, David Diamond.

He was employed at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Seymour, IN, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and Moose Lodge.

Services for Roger Sexton will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 6th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Springville Cemetery West with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Crane – Martha Helen (Guy) Crane of Bedford, IN, died Friday, May 31, 2002. Born on December 21, 1910, in Montgomery, IN, she was the daughter of Pearl and Gertrude (Nolan) Guy.

Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Robert (Pat) Herzner, Mrs. Donald (Martha) Byrd, both of Bedford, IN, and Mrs. Robert (Paula) Stephen of Kokomo, IN; four sisters: Mrs. Alfred (Joyce) Inman, Mrs. Howard (Jean) Tambaugh, both of Loogootee, IN, Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Gutgsell of O'Fallon, IL, and Mrs. William (Winnie) Aytes of Livonia, MI; twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Engleman and Betty Spear; one son-in-law, Robert Stephen (May 23, 2002), and her ex-husband, Charles Opal Crane.

She retired from housekeeping at Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Dive Christian Church.

Services for Martha Crane will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 3rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Johnny Johnson officiating and songs provided by Rebekah Ryan. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery in Loogootee, IN. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until the service time Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Lawrence – Dorothy Lawrence of Bedford, IN, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at White River Lodge. Born on January 27, 1911, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas R. and Nellie G. (Ramsey) Bair. She married George L. Lawrence on November 24, 1945, and he died April 27, 1974.

Surviving are two sisters, Alice Brown and Mrs. Charles H. (Mary) Baker, both of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Nathanial and Harold Bair; and five sisters: Blanche Bair, Ellen Fish, Ethel Futrelle, Ruth Fultz, and Rachel Chase.

She worked for Public Service for eleven years, then worked for Bedford Daily Times Mail fro twenty-five years before retiring. She was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church, Women's Evening Dept. Club, Omega Nu Tau, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and AARP.

Services for Dorothy Lawrence will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Ted Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Erie United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Pigman – Maude Pigman of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Mitchell Manor. Born on February 10, 1903, in Nancy, KY, she was the daughter of Robert and Alice (Burton) Hudson. She married Stewart Pigman in 1922, and he died in 1963.

Surviving are three daughters: Judith Shereikis of Evanston, IL, Anne Black of Bedford, IN, and Janet Zoble of Topeka, KS; two sons, Stewart Pigman of Ft. Myers, FL, and Herbert Pigman of Evanston, IL; twenty grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Richard Pigman; three brothers, and four sisters.

She was a homemaker, a seamstress, an author of children's stories, a member of the Irvington Art League, and was an active Republican.

There will be a graveside memorial service for Maude Pigman later this summer at the Somerset Cemetery in Somerset, KY. Local arrangements were handled by the Haverly Mortuary.
