11/29/02

Canada – Emma C. Canada of Bedford, IN, died Friday, November 29, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on February 13, 1925, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Helen (Anthony) Browning. She married Robert Canada on March 29, 1946, and he died on April 17, 1979.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Robert F. Canada and wife Ann, New Palestine, IN, and Richard L. Canada of Indianapolis; one daughter, Patricia K. Robbins and husband Michael, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Harriett A. Robbins of Greenfield, IN; seven grandchildren: Mathew Canada of Sycamore, IL, David Canada of New Palestine, IN, Andrew Canada of Lafayette, IN, Zackary Robbins of Bedford, IN, Marcy Robbins of Bedford, IN, Richard Canada of Indianapolis, and Natalie Canada of Indianapolis; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria Canada and Christopher Canada, both of Sycamore, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband.

She had worked at Travelers in Orleans, IN, in the Clerk-Treasurers Office in Bedford, IN, and at American United Life Insurance in Indianapolis, retiring in 1991. She was a 1943 graduate of Bedford High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford.

Services for Emma Canada will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1st, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Kirkman officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Hatfield – Dorothy F. Hatfield of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at her residence. Born on March 19, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Walter Cummings and Lula Blevins Raftis. She married Samuel Howard Hatfield on January 1, 1940, and he died November 10, 1957.

Surviving are two sons, Greg Hatfield of Bedford, IN, and Rick Hatfield of Mitchell, IN; four daughters: Darlene May and Jill Hatfield, both of Bedford, IN, Darnell Holsapple of Williams, IN, and JoEllen Stevens of Oolitic, IN; one brother, Chris Raftis; one sister, Betty Louise Perry; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Betty Bevers.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple and a former member of the General Baptist Church.

Services for Dorothy Hatfield will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30th, with Pastor Steve Goens officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Root – Dorothy Marie Keane Root of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on January 9, 1913, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Otto and Blanche (Denny) Goldsmith. She married Robert N. Keane, Sr. on August 7, 1928, and he died on February 3, 1969. She married Homer Root in Octobe4r of 1973, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Keane, Jr. and wife, Anne, of Mitchell, IN, and the Rev. Marvin Lee Keane and wife, Peggy, of Cynthiana, KY; three daughters: Margaret Wood and Husband, David, Linda Terry and husband, Ronald, and Sue Blackerby and husband, Lannie, all of of Mitchell, IN; three step-children, Vernon Root, Brenda Blair, and Nancy Root, all of Bedford, IN; nine grandchildren: Eric Terry, Shannon Blackerby, Jessica Blackerby, Vanessa Brooks, Marty Mercer, Michael Keane, Todd Keane, Brent Keane, and Jeffrey Keane; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; one grandson, Brian Scott Keane; and one great-granddaughter.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Tulip Street Christian Church.

Services for Dorothy Root will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30th, at the Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Darrin Chastain officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the Chastain Funeral Home.

Sprinkle – Virginia E. (Love) Sprinkle of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at Westview Manor. She was born on August 18, 1911, in Virginia. She married Grant E. Love, and he preceded her in death. She then married Stanley Sprinkle, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Mary (Love) Henley of Muncie, IN, Geneva (Love) Grubb, and Mable (Love) Umphress, both of Bedford, IN; one brother, Walter Blackburn of Raleigh, NC; one step-daughter, Kathy (Sprinkle) Davison of Brownstown, IN; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband and one son, Charles L. Love.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church.

Patten – Alice Gretna (Huggins) Patten of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 23, 2002, at Westview Manor. Born on July 10, 1915, in Hartford, IN, she was the daughter of Ed and Laura (Seidl) Huggins. She married Leonard Patten on September 3, 1939, and he died on January 13, 1990.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Melody (Patten) and Bill N. Raines of Fayetteville, IN, and Ellen L. (Patten) and J. Fred Townsend of Bloomington, IN; one son and his wife, Niles (Butch) and Cathy Patten of Bedford, IN; one brother, Jesse E. Sr. and Olive Huggins of Hartford City, IN; grandchildren and their spouses: Timothy D. and Melinda Raines of Fayetteville, IN, Steven W. and Kim Raines of Bedford, IN, Denise M. (Raines) and Morris Stephens of Fayetteville, IN, Bill A. Raines of Fayetteville, IN, Sharon E. (Raines) and Brayden King of Bedford, IN, Aaron D. Sparks and Sarah M. Thownsend of Bloomington, IN, Vonda G. Patten of Indianapolis, and Ruby D. Patten of Bedford, IN; and five great-grandchildren: Brandi K and Emilee R. Raines, Jessica L. and Whitney N. Raines, and Brandon K. Hartman.

She was employed at several local industries and owned and operated several local restaurants. She was of Protestant faith.

Thornton – George Wilbert Thornton of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 23, 2002, at a friend's residence. Born on January 24, 1940, in Munfordville, KY, he was the son of Roy H. and Mattie (Brown) Thornton.

Surviving are his mother, Mattie Thornton of Bedford, IN; one son, George Thornton, Jr. of Mitchell, IN; three daughters: Rowena Thornton of Vincennes, IN, Marisha Stannard and Cindy Morgan, both of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Gilbert Thornton of Bloomington, IN, and Leonard Thornton of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Agnes R. Boone and Donna P. Ray, both of Bedford, IN; eleven grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He retired from ABB Westinghouse Corp and was a member of the Second Baptist Church.

Services for George Thornton will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27th, at the Second Baptist Church with the Rev. G. W. Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Bass Cemetery. Tubbs – Mary Ollie Tubbs of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 23, 2002, at White River Lodge. Born on November 8, 1913, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of John and Nannie (Dalton) Albright. She married Willard G. Tubbs Sr. on May 18, 1947, and he died on January 11, 1981.

Surviving are one son, James Tubbs of Eau Clair, WI; one grandson, Ben Tubbs, Jr. of Farmersburg, IN; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Ben and Willard G. Tubbs, Jr.; four brothers: Walter, Lafayette, Luther, and Lloyd Albright; and one sister, Ella Mae.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Cobb – Leonard Cobb of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, November 21, 2002, at his residence. Born on April 15, 1921, in Clay County, KY, he was the son of Henry and Ollie (Childers) Cobb. He married Geneva Brummett on September 26, 1941, and she died on November 11, 2002.

Surviving are two brothers, Stanley Cobb of Needmore, IN, and Claude Cobb of Indianapolis; two sisters, Marie Fields of Florida, and Maggie Jones of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Arthur, Perry, Ed, and Matt Cobb.

He was a foreman in the limestone industry in Lawrence and Monroe counties and was a veteran of W.W. II. He was a member of Crossroads Community Church and Local Union #741 of Bloomington, Laborers International Union of North America.

Services for Leonard Cobb will be at 11:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Ken Ransom and Bro. Bob Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Silverville with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Dalton – Betty M. Dalton of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, November 21, 2002, at White River Lodge. Born on June 28, 1928, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Herschel and Alma (Cummings) Jones. She married William J. Dalton.

Surviving are one daughter, Sonia I. Evans of Bedford, IN; two sons, William Browning of Bedford, IN, and Michael O. Dalton of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Karen Davis and Sharon Schrader, both of Seymour, IN; two brothers, James Speer of Seymour, IN, and Kenneth Speer of Oolitic, IN; thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several step-brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne David Swartz and James Douglas Dalton.

She was formerly employed as a cook at the Hospitality House. She was a member of Oddfellows Lodge.

Watson – Chloe (Imagene) Andis Watson of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, November 21, 2002, at Westview Manor. Born on July 28, 1928, in Springville, IN, she was the daughter of Claude and Bernadine (Byers) Andis. She married Richard Watson, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two brothers, Chet Andis of Williams, IN, and Marion Andis of Forest Hill, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a homemaker and of Pentecostal faith.

Seaton – Michelle (Shelly) Seaton of Bedford, IN (Judah Community), died Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at her residence. Born on June 12, 1968, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Boyd and Maxine (Gilbert) Fleenor.

Surviving are one son, Zachary Landstrom of Bedford, IN; her mother, Maxine Fleenor of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Michael Fleenor of Oolitic, IN, and Scott Fleenor of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Linda Ritter of Needmore, IN, and Debbie Andrews of Franklin, IN; and her paternal grandmother, Laura Fleenor of Brownstown, IN. She was preceded in death by her father, Boyd Fleenor; meternal grandfather, George Henson; maternal grandmother, Frances Baker; and her paternal grandfather, Dan Fleenor.

She was an employee of Visteon in Bedford.

Thompson – Madeline Thompson of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at Westview Manor. Born on October 8, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Floyd and Sarah (Wright) Flynn. She married Robert Thompson on February 22, 1933, and he died on April 28, 2002.

Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law: Robert J. and Ann Thompson of Bedford, IN, Larry Dean and Margarete Thompson of Mitchell, IN, Harold Eugene and Sharon Thompson of Bloomington, IN, and Errol Wayne and Mary Lou Thompson of Oolitic, IN; two brothers, Darrell Flynn of Bedford, IN, and Robert Flynn of Kokomo, IN; three sisters: Louise Page of Springville, IN, Carole Baker of Bedford, IN, and Betty Veatch of Bloomfield, IN; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters; three brothers; one daughter, Wilma Jean Thompson; and two great-granddaughters, Jana Lynn Tomlinson and Candy Borden.

She was a homemaker and attended Oak Grove Pentecostal Church. She was a member of the American Red Cross.

Ingle – Kenneth E. Ingle of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 16, 2002, at his residence. Born on August 19, 1943, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Kenneth Everett and Mary Elizabeth (Cropp) Ingle. He married Marsha Nicholson on July 19, 1963, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are his mother of Bedford, IN; one son, Kris Ingle and wife, Samantha, of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Renae Sullivan and husband, John, of Bedford, IN; four brothers: Dick and Sue Ingle of Sanford, FL, Don and Lana Ingle of Bedford, IN, Bob and Binnie Ingle of Bedford, IN, and Jim and Linda Ingle of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren: Kate Sullivan, J.D. Sullivan, Matt Ingle, Brianna Ingle; and step-grandson, Brady Lantz. He was preceded in death by his father and one grandson, Kory E. Ingle.

He retired from Crane Army Ammunition Activity in 1994, worked for the South Lawrence Utility, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church and the Indiana National Guard.

Services for Kenneth Ingle will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20th, at the Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Colgan officiating. Arnold – Elizabeth Jane Arnold of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, November 15, 2002, at her residence. Born on June 18, 1916, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of John and Stella Marie (Ellis) Reynolds. She married Eugene Arnold on November 24, 1945, and he died February 10, 1977.

Surviving are three nephews: David Baugh of Bedford, IN, Tom Baugh, and John Baugh, both of Mitchell, IN; and caregivers: Jaunita Karr, Marty Karr, Todd Karr, Eugene Chitwood, and Vickie Chitwood, all of Mitchell, IN; She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and four sisters.

She had been employed at Reliance Manufacturing in Mitchell, had been a security guard at Carpenter Body Works, and had been employed at the Bedford Nursing Home in Bedford.

Services for Elizabeth Arnold will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 19th, at Haverly Mortuary with the Rev. Richard Grace officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at Haverly Mortuary.

Terrell – John L. Terrell of Fayetteville, IN, died Thursday, November 14, 2002, at the Hospitality House. Born on July 5, 1921, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Walter and Pansy Terrell. He married Mildred Terry on May 5, 1942, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Glenn David Terrell of Evansville, IN, and Charles Steven Terrell of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Josephine Freeman of Lake Park, FL, Barbara Craig of Crawfordsville, IN, and Betty Quackenbush of Bedford, IN; one brother, Harold Terrell of Blandinsville, IL; six granddaughters: Laurie Ann White of Fort Branch, IN, Letitia Marie Terrell of Bedford, IN, Lynne Michelle Melchior of Columbus, TN, Jennifer Diane Terrell of Evansville, IN, Angela Dawn Terrell of Bloomington, IN, and Tiffany Brooke Terrell of Belle Chase, LA; one step-grandson, Eric Summers of Fort Branch, IN; one step-granddaughter, Kristi Koberstein of Evansville, IN; five great-granddaughters: Abby and Sophia White, Lauren Lee Melchior, Kaylee and Kendall Koberstein; and twenty-six nieces and nephews.

He was an electrician and retired from NWSC Crane in 1976. He was a member of the Silverville Missionary Baptist Church, where he has served as a trustee for many years.

Services for John Terrell will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17th, at the Silverville Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Silverville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Richason – Charlene K. Richason of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at her residence. Born on January 27, 1952, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Orville and Betty (Farnsley_ Fleming. She married Philip Richason on July 11, 2001, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are her mother and step-father, Betty and John Reed of Bedford, IN; one son, Seth Hickerson of Terre Haute, IN; one daughter, Sarah Hickerson of Bedford, IN; one grandson, Ethan Aubery of Bedford, IN; one sister, Marsha Littleton of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers, Mark Fleming of Springfield IL, and Kirk Fleming of Indianapolis, INN; and former husband, Bob Hickerson. She was preceded in death by by her father, Orville Fleming.

She was an elementary school teacher at Fayetteville Elementary School for 28 years. She was a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge, Bedford Boat & Sportsman's Club, N.E.A, NLEA Building Representative, Lawrence County Foundation Grant Committee, and a breeder of Pomeranian dogs. She was a sponsor of the cheer and drill team.

There will be a memorial service for Charlene Richason at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16th, at Shafer Auditorium, Bedford Junior High School, with Dr. Dennis Turner officiating. Following the service the family asks that friends join them in celebrating the life of Charlene at the Bedford Elks Lodge from noon until 4 p.m. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions to the North Lawrence School Foundation Scholarship Fund in Charlene's name.

Cobb – Geneva C. Cobb of Bedford, IN, died Monday, November 11, 2002, at her residence. Born on May 17, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Laura Brummett White. She married Leonard Cobb in 1941, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband is one sister, Ethel Blake of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by one sister, June Gandy, and two brothers, Everett Dean and James Gregory.

She was a homemaker and a member of Crossroads Community Church.

Services for Geneva Cobb will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 13th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Revs. Merla Craig and Ken Ransom officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Silverville. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Risen – William A. (Red) Risen of Bedford, IN, died Monday, November 11, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on March 31, 1921, in Pekin, IL, he was the son of Wallace and Elsie (Sydnor) Risen. He married Dorothy Sipes on January 4, 1946, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are four sons: Rom Risen of Bloomington, IN, Steve Risen of Salem, IN, Mark Risen of Albuquerque, NM, and Jeff Risen of Bedford, IN; three daughters: Susan D. Risen, Jeanne Ann Wagner, and Julie Gilbert, all of Bedford, IN; one brother, Paul Risen of Venice, FL; fourteen grandchildren: Angie Risen-White, Jeremy Risen, Tim Risen, Stephanie Bryant, Hova Robertson Woods, Nathan Risen, Sarah Risen-Robertson, Logan Wagner, Cameron Risen, Lincoln Wagner, Bailey Gilbert, Clay Risen, Caden Risen, and Bryce Gilbert; two great-grandchildren, Evan Bryant and Andrew Risen. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wallace Risen, Jr.; one sister, Mildred Cook; and one son, Timothy, in infancy.

He was a retired postal worker in Bedford and was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for many years.

Services for William Risen will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 14th, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jon Lineback officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the church. Winegar – Frank C. Winegar of Heltonville, IN, died Monday, November 11, 2002, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on June 6, 1919, at Pinhook (Lawrence County, IN), he was the son of Lemon and Sylvia (Flinn) Winegar. He married Laveda Sowders on November 7, 1938, in Heltonville, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Taylor Winegar of Muncie, IN, and Ronald Winegar of Heltonville, IN; one daughter, Judith Ann Corbin of Heltonville, IN; one sister, Edna Tanksley of Heltonville, IN; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Willie Winegar; and one sister, Lillie Sowders.

He was a retired stone mill worker and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Ramsey Ridge Community Church.

Services for Frank Winegar will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14th, at Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville with Bro. Richard Chase officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Acton – William Joseph Acton of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, November 9, 2002, at his residence. Born on November 9, 1937, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Warren Henry and Vernal (Barnett) Acton. He married Carolyn Sue Miller on November 1, 1958, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Amy Jo Acton and Jill Acton Arber and husband, Michael Joseph, all of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Charles "Sonny" Acton of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Mary Edith Gossman of Clarksville, IN; and one granddaughter, Allison Nicole Arber. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Batchelor Rayhill.

He was a former employee of the purchasing department at Carpenter Manufacturing and was a 11956 graduate of Mitchell High School. He was a member and chairman of the deacons of the First Baptist Church, former secretary, treasurer, and past master of Mitchell Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM, and a member of York Rite in Bedford. He had coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams for several years.

Services for William Acton will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 12th, at the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Pittman, Robert Kirkman, and Charles Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday and from 9-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Chastain Funeral Home. McClintock – Anna Louise McClintock of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 9, 2002, at Westview Manor. Born on May 20, 1922, in Salem, IN, she was the daughter of Harve and Maude (McNeely) Chastain.

Surviving are one daughter, Wanda Desender of Bedford, IN; two granddaughters, Julie Scott of Bedford, IN, and Elizabeth Johnson of Iowa; two grandsons, Jack Pincira of Bedford, IN, and John Desender of Seymour, IN; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Pennington; four brothers: Wilbur (Hap), Russell, Opal, and Ogle (Don) Chastain.

She was a factory worker in Arizona.

Clark – Terry M. Clark of Bedford, IN, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at his residence. Born on September 6, 1946, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Lawrence and Theo (Burford) Clark. He married Cathy Lee Gratzer on June 9, 1967, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Lisa Kroll of Ripon, WI; one son, Michael Clark of Bedford, IN; one brother, Larry Clark of Bedford, IN; one sister, Judy Bolton of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren: Megan, Ashley, and Haley Kroll, Phoenix, Kaine and Presley Clark, and Bransyn Henson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy.

He retired as a machinist after thirty-six years with W. F. Myers Co. in Bedford. He was a member of the First Church of God and Local #1123, was an umpire for local softball leagues for twenty-four years, and served as an advisor on the first softball association board of directors.

Ramsey – Catherine B. "Kaye" Ramsey of Bedford, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at Hospitality House. Born on July 29, 1917, in Jackson County, IN, she was the daughter of William L. and Hazel (Martin) Cummings. She married Ernest Ramsey on December 23, 1938, and he died January 18, 1989.

Surviving are two brothers, Leon Cummings of Bedford, IN, and Joes Cummings and wife, Connie, of Heltonville, IN; four sisters: Thelma Stevens and husband, Harley, of Mooresville, IN, Ruth Cummings of Bedford, IN, Essie Blackwell and husband, Ray, of Heltonville, IN, and Shirley George and Husband, Chet, of Heltonville, IN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was an Avon representative for twenty-five years and was a graduate of Shawswick High School. She was a member of the Heltonville Baptist Church and Gathering Friends Extension Club.

Services for Catherine Ramsey will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Terry – Agnes Jeanette Terry of Williams, IN, died Friday, November 8, 2002, in Bedford, IN. Born on January 7, 1932, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Delbert and Estel (Elrod) Johnson. She married Arnold W. Terry on January 17, 1953, and he died on December 3, 1995.

Surviving are one son, John D. Terry of Shoals, IN; three daughters: Mary Hudson, Rebekah O'Steen, and Doris J. Terry, all of Williams, IN; two step-sons, Ronald L. Terry of Florida and Donald W. Terry of Mitchell, IN; two step-daughters, Doloris Tincher and Norma Jean Bower, both of Bedford, IN; one sister, Ruth Terry of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Dale Johnson of Texas and John Johnson of Bedford, IN; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.

She was a homemaker and a member of Souls Harbor Church.

Duncan – William G. "Bill" Duncan of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at his residence. Born on May 22, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William Christopher and Vay (Ikerd) Duncan. He married Elizabeth M. Wray on November 8, 1946, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are four daughters: Marie Ann Burgess and husband, Dr. William F., of Brownstown, IN, Barbara G. Powell and husband, Randy, of Mitchell, IN, Pamela J. Freeman and husband, Jerry, of Mitchell, IN, and Nancy E. Ryan and husband, Mike, of Bedford, IN; one son, William D. Duncan and wife, Dianna (Scherschel), of Joseph, OR; one brother, Richard V. Duncan and wife, Dottie, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Sally Ann Hall of Bedford, IN; eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer, a 1943 graduate of Shawswick High School, and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Citation. He was a member of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post #250.

Services for William Duncan will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 8th, at Chastain Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with graveside military honors accorded by members of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post #250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9107. Bennett – Irene Bennett of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Monday, November 4, 2002, at Winona Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on March 2, 1924, in Needmore, IN, she was the daughter of John Samual and Helen Grace (Cox) Sherfick. She married Clarence Richard Bennett on July 19, 1942, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Nedra Jean Sullivan of Greenwood, IN, and Patricia Anne Bennett of Guam; two sons, Michael Richard Bennett of Indianapolis, IN, and John Fredrick Bennett of Nashville, IN; one brother, John Robert Sherfick of Ft. Ritner, IN; one sister, Brenda Joan Tempest of Newburn, IN; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Louis Sherfick; and one sister, Mary Sherfick Guthrie.

She was a homemaker.

There will be graveside services for Irene Bennett at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 8th, at White River Baptist Cemetery with her grandson, Jon Mark Sullivan officiating. Friends may call from noon until 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Shoults – Carl R. Shoults of Orleans, died Monday, November 4, 2002, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on February 3, 1910, in Washington County, IN, he was the son of Earl and Emma (Wheeler) Shoults. He married Opal V. Martin on February 20, 1935, and she died March 15, 1985.

Surviving are three daughters: Wanda Callahan and Norma Swayze, both of Orleans, IN, and Karen Briscoe of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Mary Brown of Ear Park, IN; four grandchildren: Brian Callahan, Mark Callahan, Tim Briscoe, and Joy (Briscoe) Drabing; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Ethel Waltz; four brothers: Paul, Lovell, and Cecil Shoults, and one in infancy; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer, carpenter, and a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church.

Silvers – Carl Silvers of Oolitic, IN, died Monday, November 4, 2002, at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on November 9, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William and Polly (Lovell) Silvers. He married Jeanette Campbell on November 23, 1957, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Sue Holmes of Oolitic; two brothers, Tracy Silvers and wife, Hazel, of Oolitic, IN, and William Silvers of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Desda Wray Blackburn and husband, Dewey of Sun City, FL, Mildred Roberts and Etta Jean May, both of Bedford, IN; one half-brother, Robert (Bobby) Lovell and wife, Sandra, of Bedford; one granddaughter, Carla Holmes of Oolitic, IN; one sister-in-law, Judy Silvers of Bloomington, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Silvers.

He was a block and bracer and Indiana Limestone, Inc. and retired in 1994 as a forklift operator from Kaiser Aluminum in Bedford. He owned and operated the Oolitic Pool Room for thirteen years and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW #1686 in Oolitic.

Services for Carl Silvers will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7th at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Dan Voorhies officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Eppard – Clyde Richard Eppard of Bedford, IN, formerly of Bloomington, IN, died Saturday, November 2, 2002, at the White River Lodge in Bedford. Born on August 6, 1918, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Clyde A. and Jessie M. (Richards) Eppard. He married Meanette M. Allen on April 30, 1941, and she died on June 22, 2000.

Surviving are one son, Richard (Terry) Eppard of Columbus, IN; two daughters, Beverly J. Oliver and husband, Dennis L. of Bedford, IN, and Pamela K. Jackson of Bloomington, IN; one brother, William J. Eppard of California; four grandsons: Andrew Eppard and wife, Leann, of Missouri, Thomas Lane and wife, April, of Bedford, IN, Scott Oliver and wife, Cheryl, of Corydon, IN, and Matt Eppard of Bloomington, IN; three granddaughters, Andrea Oliver of Illinois, Heather Peters and husband, Brad, of Georgia, and 'Erica Jackson of Bloomington, IN; one niece and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Frances Kephart and Evelyn Eppard; two granddaughters, Cory Eppard and Shelly Siscoe; and one grandson, Brian Lane.

He was a self-employed painter in Bloomington for over fifty years and was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the Army. He was of Baptist faith.

There will be private graveside services for Clyde Eppard at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. There will be no visitation. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Manzenberger – Jerry L. Manzenberger of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, November 2, 2002, at Surrey Place Nursing Home in Bradenton. Born on February 4, 1928, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Leo and Mary (Hatfield) Manzenberger. He married Ann Mascio on April 30, 1949, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Paul Manzenberger and wife, Gloria, of Bradenton, FL; and one grandson, Randy Manzenberger of Bradenton, FL.

He was a tool and die maker, having worked for GM Powertrain in Bedford, later at American Beryllium in Sarasota, FL, and retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton, FL.

There will be graveside services for Jerry Manzenberger at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6th, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bedford with Pastor Curtis Hurley officiating. Friends may call from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Chastain – Fred T. Chastain of Bedford, IN, died Friday, November 1, 2002, at his residence. Born on April 30, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of James and Stella (Thomas) Chastain. He married Jewell Hagan on November 2, 1989, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three step-daughters: Marilyn Honn of Arizona, Treva Barrow of Bloomington, IN, and Pam Neeley of Bedford, IN; one step-son, Steve Deckard of Ohio; one sister, Merdis Moore of Bedford, IN; one brother, Floyd Chastain of Anderson, IN; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded n death by his parents and one sister, Lucille Keller.

He was retired from NWSC Crane and was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church and the American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Services for Fred Chastain will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 4th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post # 33. Smith – Sherry L. (Love) Smith of Brownstown, IN, died Saturday, November 2, 2002, at the Seymour Hospital. Born on September 17, 1952, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Kenneth G. and Etta Rose (Price) Sanders. She married Chuck Smith in August, 2000, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons: Brent Taylor of Springville, IN, and Jason Love of Bedford, IN; her mother, Etta Sanders of Bedford, IN; her grandmother, Amanda Tilford of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Braxton and Clayton Taylor of Springville, IN; three brothers: Kenny Sanders of Bloomington, IN, James Sanders of Mitchell, IN, and Bill Sanders of Bedford, IN; three uncles: James and Larry Sanders of Bedford, IN, and Mike Sanders of Louisiana; two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Scott ad Tim Sanders.

She worked as a medical secretary for the Seymour Memorial Hospital and was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church.

Services for Sherry Smith will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
