02/27/01

Canada – Charles W. "Bus" Canada of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 24, 1923, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Gilbert and Lilly Hazel (Smith) Canada. He married Marie Southern on June 4, 1995, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Larry and Gary Canada; two brothers, James Canada of Bedford, IN, and Marvin Canada of Oolitic, IN; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sue Burton and Lucy Owen.

He was a retired sheet metal worker and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Krean Conflict. He attended Christ Temple and Old Country Church in Harrodsburg, IN.

Services for Charles Canada will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Revs. Chris Perry and Brian Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of American Legion Gillen Post #33. Mayo – Ruby H. Mayo of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001, at the Hospitality House. Born on January 15, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Eulalia (McBride) Fish. She married Myron Mayo on September 20, 1930, in Bedford, IN, and he died on November 6, 1986.

Surviving are one daughter, Kay Mayo Emery and her husband, Gordon, of Bedford, IN; one grandson, Steven Keach Emery and his wife, Susan, of Bloomington, IN; two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Laura Emery of Bloomington, IN; and several nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Louie Fish; and one sister, Ruth M. Fry.

She was a homemaker and had worked in retail sales at McGee Jewelers. She was a 1930 graduate of Shawswick High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she served as a deaconess, and was a member of Lydia-Martha-Esther Circle, Bedford Chapter of Eastern Star, Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority, Women's Department Club, and an American Red Cross volunteer.

Services for Ruby Mayo will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1st, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity or organization of choice.

Stewart – Marie I. Stewart o Bloomington, IN, died Tuesday at her residence. Born on November 9, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Grover and Ethel (Clark) Hillenburg. She married William Srewart, and he died in 1999.

Surviving are one foster daughter, Maria Foddrill of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Mae Williams of Bloomington, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson and Bill Hillenberg.

She had worked at RCA and at the former Speedway Grill.

Services for Marie Stewart will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3rd, at Day Mortuary in Bloomington with the Rev. Richard Chase officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Day Mortuary.

East – Bertha Mae East of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 26, 2001, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN. Born on October 27, 1912, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Morton and Addie (Kindred) Holland. She married Fred W. East in 1933 in Bedford, IN, and he died on June 16, 1951.

Surviving are three daughters: Moneta Bush of Clarksville, IN, Rosalie Brangers of Louisville, KY, and Linda Runyan of Bedford, IN; two sons,, Fred D. East of Bedford, IN, and Mike East of Ellsttsville, IN; one sister, Fern Lynn of Bedford, IN; one brother, Charlie Holland of Bedford, IN; ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Zoe Ralston.

She retired in 1979 from General Motors, where she had worked twenty-eight years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ, UAW Local 440 Retirees, and Bedford Senior Citizens.

Services for Bertha East will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2nd, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Bro. Ermil Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

O'Brien – Evelyn "June" O'Brien of Oolitic, IN, died Monday, February 26, 2001, at her residence. She was born on December 18, 1923.

Surviving are one daughter, Jeanna O'Brien of Oolitic, IN; and three granddaughters.

There will be no funeral services or visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Ferguson-Lee is in charge of the arrangements.

Wray – Sandra S. Wray of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 26, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on March 11, 1950, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of James E. and Nina L. (Prince) Reynolds.

Surviving are two daughters, Michelle and Holly Wray, both of Bedford, IN; one son, Michael Wray, Jr. of Mitchell, IN; her parents of Needmore, IN; two brothers, James M. Reynolds of Bloomington, IN, and Orlando Rick Reynolds of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Rebecca Keithly of Heltonville, IN; her maternal grandmother, Goldie Prince; three grandsons, and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her her paternal grandparents, her maternal grandfather, and one brother, Elmer Dale Reynolds.

She retired from GE in Bloomington and was a member of Chapel Hill Church.

There will be a graveside service for Sandra Wray at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 2nd, at Patton Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Gregory K. Eads officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Robinson – William "Darrell" Robinson of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 25, 2001, at his residence. Born on June 30, 1928, in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of Leslie and Viola (Duncan) Robinson. He married Barbara Gennett on February 19, 1944, in Bedford, IN, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, William Darrell Robinson, Jr. of Mitchell, IN, and Matthew W. Robinson of Oolitic, IN; one daughter, Amanda J. Lyons of Williams, IN; two sisters, Christina Roell and Rebecca Houseman, both of Bedford, IN; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He retired in 1983 as an inspector at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was awarded two bronze stars. He was a member of the American Legion Mitchell Post, Oolitic V.F.W., charter member of Lawrence County Western Saddle Club, and UAW No. 1111 of Indianapolis.

Services for William Robinson will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military graveside rites accorded by members of the American Legion. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Hamilton – Joshua "Josh" Stone Hamilton of Bunnell, FL, died Friday, February 21, 2001, at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, FL. Born on November 26, 1930, in Nashville, TN, he was the son of the late Dr. James Robert and Nellie Rose (Stone) Hamilton. He married, and later divorced, Barbara Friedersdorf, and she survives.

Surviving with his former wife of Miller, IN, are one daughter, Holly Ann Mixdorf and her husband, Thomas of Indianapolis; two brother, James Robert "Robin" Hamilton of Indianapolis, and Joseph Thomas Hamilton of Edmonton, Canada; one sister, Phoebe Lou Hamilton of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Sarah Yekinni, Kegan Thomas Mixdorf, and Flynn Joshua Mixdorf, all of Indianapolis; and three nephews.

A 1948 graduate of Mitchell High School, he was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Franklin College in 1955 and became an elementary teacher and principal in Gary, IN. After retirement, he returned to Mitchell and worked for the Mitchell Development Corporation and later on the staff at Haverly Mortuary and at the time of his death was serving as Democrat precinct committee chaiman in Bunnell, FL. He was a member of Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity, Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post 250, Masonic Lodge F&AM 228, and Jacob Finger United Methodist Church.

His remains were cremated and will be buried in the Hamilton plot in Mitchell Cemetery. Arrangements for a memorial service in the spring will be announced at a later date by Haverly Mortuary.

Ozee – Katinka Stolberg Ozee of Bedford, IN, and Surfside, FL, died Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at her residence in Lawrence County, IN. She was born on November 4, 1919, in Atlanta, GA, and moved to Miami, FL at a pre-school age. She married Earl D. Ozee in 1961, and he is her only listed survivor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ella Jo Stolberg Wilcox, who was a prominent lawyer in Hollywood, FL.

She was a former school teacher and served in the American Red Cross during World War II. She was a member of All Soul's Episcopal Church in Miami Beach, FL.

Services for Katinka Ozee will be conducted at Johnson-Foster Funeral Home, 140 S. Dixie Highway, Hollywood, FL 33020, at a date and time to be determined. Burial will be a Tiverland Cemetery in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Friends may call at the Johnson-Foster Funeral Home at a date and time to be determined. Brinegar – Valerie Brinegar of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at her residence. Born on March 16, 1942, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Casey and Frieda DePierre Bochenek. She married Aaron Brinegar on November 24, 1960, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, A. J. Brinegar of Bloomington, IN, and Stephen Brinegar of Los Angeles, CA; one daughter, Emily Brinegar of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Robert Bochenek of Defiance, OH; one sister, Mrs. Warren (Paula) Bartlett of Bloomfield, IN; one grandson, Andrew Jacob Brinegar; one step-granddaughter, Sarah Masterson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a homemaker, a 1960 graduate of Bedford High School, and had worked in retail sales at Keueger Jewelers and Sears. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, and an active member of the O'VAR Coming Together for Ovarian Cancer early detection and treatment.

Services for Valerie Brinegar will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2001, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. 02/19/01

May – Eunice M. May of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on January 10, 1920, in Brown County, IN, she was the daughter of Harley and Myrtle (Foreman) Shepherd. She married Luther May on February 27, 1940, and he died in March 1991.

Surviving are five sons: James May of Sterling, CO, Roger and David Mary, both of Bedford, IN, Cecil May of Colorado Springs, CO, and Henry May of Springville, IN; one daughter, Mary Young of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Lester Shepherd of Florida and Murnal Shepherd of Columbus, IN; eighteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and three brothers.

She was retired from RCA in Bloomington and was of Pentecostal faith.

Services for Eunice May will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Merle Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Springville Christian Cemetery. Wilson – Bessie Lena Wilson of Columbus, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, and Seymour, IN, died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Born on December 7, 1898, in Jackson County, IN (3 miles west of Medora), she was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Effie (Browning) Holmes. She was married three times: first to Arthur Boss in June 1919, second to Levi Brock in October 1936, and third to Jay Wilson in 1951. All three husbands preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Bernard Boss of Largo, FL, and daughter-in-law, Anna; one son-in-law, Frank Hill of Medora, IN; five grandsons: Larry Hill of Shelbyville, IN, John, Michael, and Mark Hill, all of Medora, IN, and Danny Boss of Prunedale, CA; three granddaughters: Shirley Riehn of Gilbertsville, KY, Tylene Smith of Morgan Hill, CA, and Carol Wheeler of Seymour, IN; thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three husbands; one daughter, Evelyn Bereniece Hill; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, and three sisters.

She served as sexton at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford for fifty-five years. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Bedford and was a past president of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Alford – Ray Elmer Alford of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, at Mitchell Manor Nursing & Rehab Center. Born on November 13, 1913, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Homer and Mary Ellen (Grimes) Alford. He married Lillian M. Keynon on November 3, 1942, and she died on January 11, 1979.

Surviving are one son, David Alford of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter, Cathy Brewer of Mitchell, IN; two grandsons, Kyle Alford and Adam Brewer; four granddaughters: Gretchen Alford, Natalie Durlacher, Sheri Williams, and Audra Brewer; and three great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Cameron, and Alexis Durlacher. He was preceded in death by his wife.

He was a well driller and a farmer for fifty years and was a member of Mitchell First Christian Church.

Kern – Rachel G. Kern of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, February 17, 2001, at White River Lodge. Born on February 22, 1907, in Dubois County, IN, she was the daughter of Robert Wells and Sarah (Evans) Jones. She married Homer Kern in 1930, and he died in 1965.

Surviving are one sister-in-law, Ruby Jones of Crystal, IN; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Grace Starr, Rhoda Bates, and Essie Mae Inman; four brothers, Herman, Perry, Roy and John Jones.

She was a homemaker and a member of Englewood Baptist Church, Ladies' Missionary Circle, and Bedford Senior Citizens' Club.

Services for Rachel Kern will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Bucholz – Nadine Buchholz of Bedford, IN, died Friday, February 16, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 9, 1926, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Hobert and Jennie (White) Spray. She married Robert A. Bucholz on October 24, 1946, and he died on May 11, 1996.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Janice L.) Cain, of Bedford, IN; and two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Mallat and Mrs. Paul E. (Mary Catherine) Martin, both of Bedford, IN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband and one granddaughter.

She taught art in schools in Florida, Ohio, and Indiana for thirty years, retiring in 1985. A 1944 graduate of Shawswick High School, she Indiana Central College, and received a B.S. in Education from Indiana University and a Masters in Education. She was a member of Erie United Methodist Church (organist and choir director), Delta Kappa Gamma Omicron Chapter president for three years, Bedford Department Club Garden Division (officer), Flatwood Neighborhood Club, Indiana Retired Teachers' Association (served on several state committees), and Lawrence county retired Teachers' Association (president and membership committee). She was an avid gardener, specializing in iris and hemericalus breeding and garden design, and a member of the African Violet Society of America.

Services for Nadine Buchholz will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 20th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Dr. Philip Klinger and the Rev. Sandy Harlan officiating. Burial will follow in Erie United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Allen – Ethel M. Kirk Allen of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on June 20, 1914, in Arkansas, she was the daughter of Odis and Mary (Brown) Taylor. She married Floyd Kirk in 1934, and he preceded her in death. She then next married Arthur Allen, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are four sons: Dean Kirk, Larry Kirk, and Denny Kirk, all of Mitchell, IN, and Gene Kirk of Bedford, IN; three daughters: Geneva Voorhies and Colleen Arnold, both of Mitchell, IN, and Gayle Bex of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mae Coots of Henryville, IN, and Betty Yates of Colorado; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was a retired cook at Head Start in Mitchell. She was a member of Mitchell Church of Nazarene and Mitchell Senior Citizens.

Services for Ethel Allen will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18th, at Mitchell Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Mark Bechtel officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. until noon Sunday at Haverly Mortuary and from 12:30 p.m. until the service time Sunday at the church.

Norman – Katie Norman of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, at her residence. Born on October 31, 1909, in Norman, IN, she was the daughter of Ulysses Grant and Amanda (Cummings) Norman.

Surviving are three sisters: Blanche Maxwell of Lafayette, IN, Florence Todd of Bedford, IN, and Naomi Norman of Lafayette, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Julia Schultz, and one brother, Ernest "Glen" Norman.

She was a retired bookkeeper for the Art Store in Bedford, worked for Bedford Housing Authority, and was a graduate of Heltonville High School and Bedford Business College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Services for Katie Norman will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Blackwell – Orpha Louise Blackwell of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at her residence. Born on September 26, 1923, in Tunnelton, IN, she was the daughter of George and Fastie (Wilcox) Horner. She married Denzil G. Blackwell on March 23, 1946, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are four daughters: Connie Blackwell, Karen Sorrells, Denise McNeely, all of Mitchell, IN, and Vickie Godsey or Orleans, IN; one son, George Blackwell of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Dorothy Batman of Columbus, IN; one brother, Edward Horner of Pinhook, IN; twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clifford Wilcox.

She was a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church.

Chastain – Fred W. Chastain of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on June 25, 1937, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Herschel E. and Margaret (Suddarth) Chastain. He married Judy Dalton on June 28, 1963, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Kevin William Chastain of Jasper, IN, and Michael Dale Chastain of Raub, IN; his mother, Margaret Chastain of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Frank Chastain of Remington, IN, and Larry Chastain of Sellersburg, IN; and two granddaughters, Ashley Chastain and Brittney Chastain. He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a retired truck driver for Jefferson Trucking Company, a 1957 graduate of Mitchell High School, and an Army veteran. He was a member of Teamsters No. 135 and Pinhook Christian Church.

Services for Fred Chastain will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 16th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Bros. Carey Allen and Chad Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Pinhook Cemetery. Chastain – Mildred A. Chastain of Zapata, TX, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at her residence. She was born on December 24, 1911, and married J. Arthur Chastain, who survives.

Surviving with her husband of Zapata, TX, are two sons, J. Keith Chastain of Lakewood, CO, and Dr. Gary K. Chastain of Richmond, KY; one daughter, Karon C. Wingard of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Roanna Sanders of Mitchell, IN; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services for Mildred Chastain will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17th, at Chastain Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Talbott Cemetery. Lambrecht – Sarah Frances Lambrecht of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at the Hospitality House. Born on June 1, 1912, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas and Maude (Dorsett) Myers. She married Theodore "Ted" Lambrecht on September 22, 1936, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters: Patricia Sue Gordon of San Luis Obispo, CA, Mildred Ann Flora of Scipio, IN, and Virginia Kay Timmons of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Joseph Myers of Bloomington, IN; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A 1930 graduate of Bedford High School, she had worked at Value Dress Shop, Woolworth Store, and as a cook at Dunn Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, Bryantsville Home Economics Club, Ladies Missionary Group of First Christian Church, and had served as a Lawrence County 4-H leader and a volunteer for Red Cross for many years.

Mathews – Ethela G. Mathews of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil, IN. Born on June 10, 1911, in Leesville, IN, she was the daughter of Henry White and Alma (Root) Fields. She married Russell B. Mathews on April 30, 1939, and he died May 18, 1976.

Surviving are three sons: Will Weldon Mathews and wife Gail of Greenfield, IN, Henry Russell "Hank" Mathews and wife Sharon of Huron, IN, and John F. Mathews and wife Martha of Solsberry, IN; two daughters, Mrs. Les (Ann) Walden of Brazil, IN, and Mrs. Gordon (Ada Helen) Terry of Oakland, TN; one brother, William "Bill" Fields of Townsville, SC; one sister, Della Mae "Babe" Mitchell of Oolitic; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Russell "Bud" Fields; and one grandson, Will W. Mathews III.

She was a homemaker, had worked as a secretary, retiring in 1978, was a 1930 graduate of Bedford High School, and had attended the Herron Art School in Indianapolis. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, American Cancer Society, Lawrence County Art Association.

White – Merlin E. White of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 12, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on March 23, 1926, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Claude and Netha (Merry) White.

Surviving are two daughters, Netha Storey of Indianapolis and Natalie Keller of North Vernon, IN; three brothers: Don White of Bedford, IN, Charles White of Mitchell, IN, and Ronald White of Borden, IN; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Byron White.

He was a teacher at Huron High School for ten years and retired as an administrator at Muscatatuck Training Center. He was a past president of the Jennings County Association of Retarded Citizens and a member of Pleasantview Church of Christ and Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

Farris – Josephine Evelyn Farris of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 11, 2001, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 1, 1919, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James M. and Minnie Pearl (Patton) Reynolds. She married T. C. Farris in 1953, and he died in July 1991.

Surviving are one son, Arley M. "Sonny" Barnes of Pahrump, NV; four brothers: Morris Opal Reynolds of Bedford, IN, Nobel C. Reynolds of Oolitic, IN, George Thomas Reynolds of Mitchell, IN, and James Earl Reynolds of Needmore, IN; four sisters: Lina Elizabeth McPherson of Martin County, IN, Dolly Laverne Gaddy of North Carolina, Dorothy Jean Philpott of Judah, IN, and Ruby Nadine Parnitiei of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters: Daisey Juanita Atteberry, Mildred Mae Wood, and Anna Marie Beock; and one brother, Arley Milford Reynolds.

She was a homemaker and a member of Bedford Moose Lodge and V.F.W.

Bolton – Emery H. Bolton of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, February 10, 2001, at his residence. Born on March 1, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Wesley and Anna (Crane) Bolton. He married Ruth Lynn on April 25, 1943, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Emery "Buddy" Bolton of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Della Ann Jones of Bedford, IN; one brother, Guy Boloton of LaGrange, IN; two sisters, Exie Daugherty and Elsie Ray Turpin, both of Bedford, IN; five granddaughters: Shandi Simons of Indianapolis, Tiffany Corbin of Bedford, IN, Lyndi Bolton of Mitchell, IN, Kathy Haile of Winchester, KY, and Karen Johnson of Mitchell, IN; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Arthur, Everett, Roscoe, and Rex Bolton; and one sister, Evanda Cummings.

He was a retired farmer and stone mill worker. He was a member of Mitchell First Baptist Church and C.C.C. Co. #1536.

Duncan – William R. Duncan of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 11, 2001, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Brandenton. Born on November 12, 1937, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Joseph Clyde and Willie Mae (Stidham) Duncan. He married Carol Miller, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife of Bradenton are three sons: W. Scott Duncan and Joseph J. Duncan, both of Bradenton, FL, and Matthew R. Duncan of Atlanta, GA; one brother, J.C. Duncan of California; one sister, Joanne Root of Bedford, IN; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was the owner of Duncan Creative Kitchens and retired in 2000. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bradenton and sang in the choir.

Burch – Delphena Burch of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, February 8, 2001, at Mitchell Manor. She was born on June 2, 1917. She married James R. Burch, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, Wayne M. Isom of Mitchell, IN, and Donald S. Burch of Collinsville, IL; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service for Delphena Burch at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18th, at Haverly Mortuary. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Covington – Bessie King Covington of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, February 8, 2001, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on August 22, 1900, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of John and Sarah (Bush) King. She first married Clarence Jackson and then she married Albert Covington, both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters: Viola Medlock and Lorene Griffin, both of Bedford, IN, and Darval Tincher of Avoca, IN; two sons, Charles Jackson of Bedford, IN, and Kenneth Jackson of Leighton, AL; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands, four brothers, and two sisters.

She retired after thirty-five years at M.Fine & Sons and was the oldest member of Faith Mission Church.

Evans – Ronald E. Evans of Huron, IN, died Thursday, February 8, 2001, at his residence. Born on November 5, 1949, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Arthur and Helen (Young) Evans. He married Debra Jean Blackerby on April 30, 1994, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Shawn David Evans of Indianapolis; one daughter, Lisa Marie Evans of Columbus, OH; his mother, Helen Parson of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Steven Lynn Evans and Allen Evans, both of Bedford, IN; and one sister, Debra Leann Crumpler of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father and one step-son, Gregory Vaught.

He was an employee of Otis Elevator, a 1967 graduate of Mitchell High School, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E. and the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post #250 of Mitchell.

Baughman – Dorothy Coulter Luttrell Baughman of Brownsburg, IN, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. Born on January 22, 1932, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Tom and Grace (Clendenon) Coulter. She married Donald Baughman on April 14, 1978, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband of Brownsburg, IN, are two daughters, the Rev. Evangelist Charlotta J. Luttrell and Dee Hughes, both of Indianapolis; two brothers, Buck and Tommy Coulter of Bedford, IN; fo9ur sisters: Sylvia, Carol, Vickie, and Ronnetta; two granddaughters, Tonnetta Luttrell and Jody Bowen, both of Indianapolis; one great-granddaughter, Brandy Bowen; and one great-grandson, Waylon Luttrell.

She was a semi-retired contractor and a member of the Living Word Church of Plainfield, IN.

Faubion – Richard L. Faubion of Heltonville, IN, died Monday, February 5, 2001, at his residence. Born on October 28, 1938, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Richard R. and Easter (Todd) Faubion.

Surviving are two daughters, Leanna Stoll of Brown County, IN, and Mjary Leonard of Bedford, IN; one son, David Richard Faubion of Mitchell, IN; his parents of Heltonville, IN; two sisters, Margaret Hall and Susan Norman, both of Heltonville, IN; one brother, Jack Faubion of Heltonville, IN; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Faubion.

He was a maintenance worker at Bedford Regional Medical Center and was a member of the Heltonville Methodist Church.

Southern – Eugene C. (Gene) Southern of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 5, 2001, at Hospitality House. Born on March 20, 1919, in Monroe County, IN, he was the son of Roma and Alice (Deckard) Southern. He married Leota Deckard on October 18m 1942, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Brenda Cain of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Marie Canada, Maudlean McNeal, Audlean Palter, all of Bedford, IN, and Ruth Eads of Bloomington, IN; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was retired from Woolery's Limestone Company and was of Protestant faith.

Bridwell – Gary Q. Bridwell of Bedford, IN, died February 4, 2001 at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on February 20, 1940, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Quincy and Ola (Rowe) Bridwell. He married Donna Arena on August 24, 1960, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Krista Bridwell of Bedford, IN; one son, Gary Michael Bridwell of Bedford, IN; one brother, Lowell Bridwell of Avoca, IN; five sisters: Jean Huff of Chillicothe, OH, Phyllis Goodman of Needmore, IN, Iris Kirkman of Springville, IN, Doris Beasley of Georgetown, IN, and Donna Lou Goldback of Pensacola, FL; and two grandsons, Jarod and Jacob Bridwell. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rowena Turner.

He was a meter reader for the City of Bedford for thirty-five years. He was a 1958 graduate of Needmore High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and ran track.

Phillips – Georgia Phillips of Springville, IN, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on September 30, 1021, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of the Rev. Earl and Mellie (Henderson) Anderson. She married Stanley Phillips on August 25, 1941, and he died March 4, 2000.

Surviving are four sons: Robert E., Herbert L., Marvin W. (Bill, and Gary W. Phillips, all of Springville, IN; two sisters, Edith Godsey and Wanda Reuter, both of Springville, IN; one brother, Chester Anderson of Springville, IN; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters, and one brother.

She was a homemaker and attended Grace Baptist Church of Springville.

Hall – Audrey A. Hall of Oolitic, IN, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at Westview Manor. Born on October 11, 1909, in East Oolitic, IN, she was the daughter of Jacob and Margaret Frances (Hicks) Anderson. She married Wesley C. Hall on February 10, 1927, and he died on October 4, 1988.

Surviving are six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gerald W. Hall; five brothers: Marshall, Joseph, William, Walter, and Huey Anderson; four sisters: Sarah Jane Duncan, Mary Frances Canada, Dora Robbins, and Bessie Anderson; and two grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oolitic Baptist Church. She was a former member of Grey Ladies of The Red Cross and a member of the Oolitic Friendly Neighbors Home Extension Club for over forty years.

Stillions – Harley Stillions of Bedford, IN, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Bloomington, IN. Born on February 22, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William Jacob and Onie Bell (Covey) Stillions. He married Nellie Mae Deckard on August 8, 1936, and she died on July 26, 1984.

Surviving are two sons, Gary Stillions and Joel Stillions, both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Linda Cobb of Bedford, IN; and one sister, Ruth Gray of Martinsville, IN; eight grandchildren, and thirteen thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Calvin Stillions and Willie "Bill" Stillions; one sister, Izelle Lemon; and one grandson, Earl Dean Cobb.

He was a retired railroad engineer from Crane and a carpenter for K&K Construction. He was a member of Davis Memorial Nazarene Church.

Wilkinson – Harriett J. Wilkinson of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at her residence. Born on October 1, 1909, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James C. and Grace (Eversole) Wilkinson.

Surviving are one sister, Lois Gates of Mesa, AZ; and two nieces, Judy Opfer of Palo Alto, CA, and Margaret Hamstrom of Portage, IN. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Martha Mischler, Helen Granger, and Catharine Wilkinson.

A graduate of Indiana University, she had taught home economics in Indianapolis and northern Indiana. She was a 1928 graduate of Mitchell High School and a member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Plan of Mitchell, IN; two sons, John E. Albertson of Memphis, TN, and Paul H. Albertson of Plainville, IN; five sisters: Helen Elliott of Mitchell, IN, Laura Phillips of Bedford, IN, Kay Leeds of Champaign, IL, Dorene Story of Crossville, IN, and Ada Horn of Mena, ARK; two brothers, Ernie Albertson of Orleans, IN, and Al Albertson of Bloomington, IN; five grandchildren: Tony Plano, Tracy Beasley, Eric Albertson, Nigel Albertson, and Amanda Sue Albertson; and four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward Albertson; and one sister, Sue Albertson.

He had worked at N.W.S.C. Crane, owned and operated The Colonial Manor, and was a World War II veteran, having served in the Philippines. He was a charter member of the Crane VFW, the Eagles, and American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Bareford – Mary Lois Bareford of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at Carmel Care Center in Carmel, IN. Born on October 5, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas Cole and Della (Aynes) Robertson. She married Leonard J. Bareford on December 24, 1936, and he died on February 17, 1994.

Surviving are one son, Thomas F. Bareford of Carmel, IN; one brother, Ed Robertson of Barberton, OH; one sister, Nancy Holiday of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Leonard G. Bareford of Indianapolis, and Karen J. Bareford of Key Largo, FL; and two great-granddaughters, Julie Bareford and Meagan Bareford, both of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by one granddaughger, Susan Marie Bareford, and one brother, Harold I. Robertson.

She had worked at Barrett's Studio and was retired from Hoosier Uplands with 33 years of service. A 1934 graduate of Mitchell High School, she was a member First Baptist Church and Mitchell Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa.

Harvey – Evangeline F. Harvey of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 10, 1914, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lawrence L. and Ora Bell (Skeen) Pierce. She married Max E. Harvey on July 2, 1964, and he died in 1986.

Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Bernice Taylor of Gatlinburg, TN, and Lula May Henry of Gosport, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was retired from NWSC Crane, having worked several years as a secretary. She graduated from Williams High School and had attended business school.

Super – Steve L. Super of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at his residence. Born on November 15, 1926, in Keno, KY, he was the son of John and Alyce (Keith) Super. He married Betty J. Silvers on January 17, 1948, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Don Super of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Sheila Kern and Sandra Tincher, both of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Eddie and Frank Super, both of Kentucky; six sisters: Nina Hanes, Lillian Haynes, Rose Davis, and Ann Isbell, all of Kentucky, Mary Morrow of New Castle, IN, and Alvis Jean Bryant of Dayton, OH; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brother, Joe and Dewey Super; and one son in infancy.

He was retired from Kaiser Aluminum/Imco and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the Infantry. He attended First Pentecostal Church of God.

Services for Steve Super will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Rodney Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and from noon until the service time Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Havill – Charles William Havill of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Hospitality House. Born on May 14, 1911, in Mount Carmel, IL, he was the son of Rene and Amy (Snyder) Havill. He married Nancy Frederick on December 24, 1983, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife of Bloomington, IN, are three sons: Joseph, James, and David Havill; two daughters, Rosemary Balbier and Anderea Scaglioni; one step-son, Michael Goldman; one step-daughter, Christina Greenblatt; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine; his second wife, Jan; and one son, Charles Havill, Jr.

He was a retired attorney. He was past governor of Indiana District of Kiwanis Internationa and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.

There will be a memorial service for Charles Havill at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10th, at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, IN. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel, IL, at a later date. There will be no visitation. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Friends are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Central Indiana Alzheimer's Association.

Lawson – Geneva Lawson of Bedford, IN, formerly of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Westview Manor. Born on July 22, 1913, in Pulaski County, KY, she was the daughter of Jerry and Frances (Stigall) Ryan. She married Keith Lawson on August 25, 1985, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two brother, Russell Ryan of Oolitic, IN, and Roe Ryan of Barbourville, KY; one sister, May Neal of Buddha, IN; one grandson, and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, and three sisters.

She was retired from Central Foundry and was a member of Dive Christian Church.

There will be private services for Geneva Lawson with burial in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions to Dive Christian Church.
