01/31/01 Bareford – Mary Lois Bareford of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at Carmel Care Center in Carmel, IN. Born on October 5, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas Cole and Della (Aynes) Robertson. She married Leonard J. Bareford on December 24, 1936, and he died on February 17, 1994. Surviving are one son, Thomas F. Bareford of Carmel, IN; one brother, Ed Robertson of Barberton, OH; one sister, Nancy Holiday of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Leonard G. Bareford of Indianapolis, and Karen J. Bareford of Key Largo, FL; and two great-granddaughters, Julie Bareford and Meagan Bareford, both of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by one granddaughger, Susan Marie Bareford, and one brother, Harold I. Robertson. She had worked at Barrett's Studio and was retired from Hoosier Uplands with 33 years of service. A 1934 graduate of Mitchell High School, she was a member First Baptist Church and Mitchell Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa. Services for Mary Bareford will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 3rd, at Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Harvey of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 10, 1914, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lawrence L. and Ora Bell (Skeen) Pierce. She married Max E. Harvey on July 2, 1964, and he died in 1986. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Bernice Taylor of Gatlinburg, TN, and Lula May Henry of Gosport, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was retired from NWSC Crane, having worked several years as a secretary. She graduated from Williams High School and had attended business school. Services for Evangeline Harvey will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Super – Steve L. Super of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at his residence. Born on November 15, 1926, in Keno, KY, he was the son of John and Alyce (Keith) Super. He married Betty J. Silvers on January 17, 1948, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Don Super of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Sheila Kern and Sandra Tincher, both of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Eddie and Frank Super, both of Kentucky; six sisters: Nina Hanes, Lillian Haynes, Rose Davis, and Ann Isbell, all of Kentucky, Mary Morrow of New Castle, IN, and Alvis Jean Bryant of Dayton, OH; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brother, Joe and Dewey Super; and one son in infancy. He was retired from Kaiser Aluminum/Imco and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the Infantry. He attended First Pentecostal Church of God. Services for Steve Super will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Rodney Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and from noon until the service time Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. 01/30/01 Havill – Charles William Havill of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Hospitality House. Born on May 14, 1911, in Mount Carmel, IL, he was the son of Rene and Amy (Snyder) Havill. He married Nancy Frederick on December 24, 1983, and she survives. Surviving with his wife of Bloomington, IN, are three sons: Joseph, James, and David Havill; two daughters, Rosemary Balbier and Anderea Scaglioni; one step-son, Michael Goldman; one step-daughter, Christina Greenblatt; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine; his second wife, Jan; and one son, Charles Havill, Jr. He was a retired attorney. He was past governor of Indiana District of Kiwanis Internationa and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford. There will be a memorial service for Charles Havill at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10th, at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg, IN. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel, IL, at a later date. There will be no visitation. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Lawson – Geneva Lawson of Bedford, IN, formerly of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at Westview Manor. Born on July 22, 1913, in Pulaski County, KY, she was the daughter of Jerry and Frances (Stigall) Ryan. She married Keith Lawson on August 25, 1985, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are two brother, Russell Ryan of Oolitic, IN, and Roe Ryan of Barbourville, KY; one sister, May Neal of Buddha, IN; one grandson, and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, and three sisters. She was retired from Central Foundry and was a member of Dive Christian Church. There will be private services for Geneva Lawson with burial in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions to Dive Christian Church. 01/28/01 Tetrault – Adhemar W. Tetrault Jr. of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, January 28, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on April 28, 1928 in Bourbonnais, IL, he was the son of Adhemar and Lucille Tetrault. He married Wilma (Powers) Tetrault on June 22, 1984, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Judi Clodi of Colorado and Carol Larive of South Dakota; one son, Donnie Tetrault of Illinois; two step-sons, David Goodwin of Illinois and Kennith Goodwin of Bedford, IN; thirteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Allen; three sons in infancy; and one brother, Ronnie Tetrault. He retired from General Motors in Kalamazoo, MI. He attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was a member of Eagles Lodge. The body will be cremated. There will be no service or calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary. 01/27/01 Hilderbrand – Chloral H. Hilderbrand of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 27, 2001, at his residence. He was born on September 15, 1914, in Robinson, IL. Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Bloomington, IN; two sons, W. Tom Hilderbrand and Gary G. Hilderbrand, both of Bloomington, IN; two daughters, Carol H. Barnhart of Newburgh, IN, and Sharon Day of Portland, OR; four brothers: George Hilderbrand of Hope, IN, Paul Hilderbrand of Bedford, IN, Kenneth Hilderbrand of Columbus, IN, and Bill Hilderbrand of Seymour, IN; one sister, Alice M. Kellum of Norman, IN; sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A banker who owned or controlled several banks in Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, he was the head of the family who owns the local Stone City Bank. He was owner of Hilderbrand Motors, a Bedford Ford dealership from 1947-1963. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford, the Bedford Elks Club, and the Bedford FOP. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a Sagamore of the Wabash. Services for Chloral Hilderbrand will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31st, at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bloomington or the American Cancer Society. Reynolds – Mary Belle Reynolds of Bedford, IN, formerly of Ft. Ritner, IN, died Saturday, January 27, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 24, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Dewey and Ruby Belle (Beavers) Ollis. She married Leslie L. Reynolds on December 29, 1942, and he died May 25, 1995. Surviving are one daughter, Leveda J. "Jeannie" Perez of Bedford, IN; one son-in-law, Fabian Perez, Jr. of Bedford, IN; one brother, Frank Ollis of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren: Mrs. Jason (Amy) Dean of Medora, IN, Fabrianne Perez of Bedford, IN, and Erik Perez of Bedford, IN; two great-granddaughters, Justice Leslie and Jadelyn Belle Dean of Medora, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Philip Eugene Reynolds, in infancy; three sisters: Veneda Hughes Hubbard, Betty Daulton, and Patty Hughes; two brothers, Raymond and Charles Ollis; and one grandson, Enrico Perez, in infancy. She worked at ITT Plastics in Medora, IN for fourteen years, retiring in 1979 and was also a homemaker. She was of Pentecostal faith and a member of Women's Auziliary of Eagles #654 in Bedford. Smith of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, January 26, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on July 20, 1913, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Howard and Lula (Coleman) Smith. He married Pauline Isom on November 21, 1940, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Thomas R. Smith of Mitchell; daughter-in-law Pamela (Montgomery) Smith of Mitchell, IN; two nieces, Linda Stillson of Kernersville, NC, and Beverly Johns of Logansport, IN. He had worked at Deitzen's Bread Company in Kokomo, retiring after thirty-five years of service, was a 1932 graduate of Mitchell High School, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post #250, a 50 year member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM, and a member of the First Baptist Church. A memorial service will be conducted by Mitchell Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. 01/25/01 Isom – Stephen Escoe "Pete" Isom of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, January 25, 2001 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. Born on March 18, 1917, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of John Stephen and Mary (Trowbridge) Isom. He married Gladys Margaret Stevens on December 31, 1938, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Stephen Escoe Isom II, of Mitchell, IN; two daughters, Mary Lou Hoagland of Zionsville, IN, and Linda Jane Terrell of Rochester, IN; one brother, Warren Rex Isom of Brywn Mahr, PA; one sister, Thelma Burton of Bedford, IN; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Gay, Carl, Lowell, Willis, and Opal Isom; and six sisters: Hazel Sanders, Pansy Isom, Lucille Isom, Osa Sanders, Avis King, and Roxie Riggs. He was a farmer and a bus driver for Mitchell Community Schools for twenty-five years. He was a 1937 graduate of Mitchell High School. He was a deacon and member of Liberty Baptist Church, had serviced on the Lawrence County Council and ASCS Board, and was past president of Lawrence County 4-H Fair Board. He was a 50 year member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM, a member of Lawrence County Cattlemen's Association, and a former member of Mitchell Rotary Club. Services for Stephen "Pete" Isom will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28th, at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Hatfield and Bro. Eugene Pruett officiating. Contributions in his memory may be made to Liberty Baptist Church. 01/24/01 Kern – Maeda E. Kern of Williams, IN, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 7, 1920, in Daviess County, IN, she was the daughter of Waldo E. and Beulah M. (Hobson) Spreen. She married Kenneth A. Kern on June 27, 1941, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are three sons: Roe and Amel Kern, both of Williams, IN, and Ed Kern of Bloomington, IN; three brothers: Ben Spreen of Westfield, IN, Harold Spreen of Williams, IN, and Perry Spreen of Sarasota, FL; three sisters: Margaret Armstrong and Betty Gore, both of Williams, IN, and Erma Rimmel of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member Williams Church of Christ and Williams Home Demonstration Club. Mundy – Bessie Mundy of Bryantsville, IN, died Wednesday, January 14, 2001, at her residence. Born on November 10, 1922, in Bryantsville, IN, she was the daughter of Urban and Dottie (Williams) Deaver. She married Hershel Mundy in April 1942, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one son, Noble Floyd Mundy of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Sharon Diane Mundy of Bedford, IN; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Dale Mundy; one brother, Noble Deaver; and two sisters, Ruth Deaver and Helen Hogue. She was a member of Bryantsville Church of Christ. Born on October 31, 1919, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of James O. and Opal (George) VanWinkle. She married Charles (Chic) Hildum o April 17, 1939, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Charles Jimmie Hildum of Mitchell, IN; two daughters, Treva Hooten and Rebecca Wright, both of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Betty Butler, Mildred Nikirk, and Marlene Kern, all of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brother, James Otto and Charles VanWinkle. She was a former employee of S.S. Kresge's and K-Mart Store, manager of the Dianna Shop, and owned and operated Hildum & Son's Grocery in Oolitic. She was a member of Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church. Born on December 5, 2000, in Indianapolis, IN, she was the daughter of Scott and Rachel (Overstreet) Bickers. Surviving are her parents of Bedford, IN; the paternal grandparents, William Bickers of Bedford, IN, and Kim Taylor of Cincinnati, OH; the maternal grandparents, Douglass and Melissa Overstreet of Bedford, IN; the paternal great-grandparents, Kenny and Kay Bingham of Bedford, IN; the maternal great-grandparents, Lorene Overstreet of Bedford, IN, and Lloyd Melton of Mitchell, IN. Rayhill of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, January 21, 2001, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born October 5, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Warren and Vernal (Barnett) Acton. She married Clinton Batchelor on February 16, 1946, and he died January 11, 1990. She married Clyde Rayhill in March 1994, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Susie Leatherman of Mitchell, IN; one step-daughter, Debra Tolbert of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Charles "Sonny" Acton and William T. Acton, both of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Mary E. Gossman of Clarksville, IN; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She had been employed by Mitchell Community Schools and the Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Tulip Street Christian Church and the Oolitic VFW Auxiliary. Born on October 13, 1960, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James L. and Donna Faye (Strunk) Stigall. She married Roger Hardin on May 20, 1985, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one son, Zachary Hardin, at home; two daughters, Shannon Hardin, at home, and Sarah Strunk of Bedford, IN; her parents; one sister, Jamie Williams of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Scott Stigall of Missouri and Michael Stigall of Bedford, IN; and several nieces. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and one daughter, Courtney Strunk. She had worked as an LPN at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born on August 8, 1952, in Columbus, IN, he was the son of John and Inez (Parker) Rodman. He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Rodman of Bloomington, IN, and Kristy Rodman of Mitchell, IN; one son, Jonathan Rodman of Chattanooga, TN; his parents of Bedford, IN; two brothers, John Dennis Rodman of Paoli, IN, and Bruce Rodman of Carlyle, IL; two grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was a former meat cutter and a musician. He was of Pentecostal faith and a member of Lawrence and Monroe County Musicians' Association. Born on April 25, 1924, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Zimri and Mattie (Newkirk) Bridwell. He married Kathleen Crawford on February 18, 1950, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one niece, Helen Tomberlin of New Whiteland, IN; one great-nephew, James Reddick of Franklin, IN; and two great-great-nieces, Emily and Erica Reddick. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gleeda Buher and Adris Koetter; and one brother, Glenn Bridwell. He was owner of Bridwell Auto Sales and Guns Plus in Bedford, IN, and was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Arm . He was a member of the First Church of God, a 55 year member of American Legion Gillen Post #33, and a 50 year member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #826, a life-long member of American Rifle Association and a member of the National Guard. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. 01/17/01 Anderson – Maxine Anderson of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 27, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Heltonville, IN. Born on October 13, 1925, in Indianapolis, IN, she was the daughter of Huston and Gertrude (Shedelbower) Webb. She married Frank Anderson on September 3, 1946, and he died February 23, 1999. Surviving are four daughters: Veneita Kay Apple of French Lick, IN, Sharon Lynn Nolan of Heltonville, IN, Barbara Sue Alberts of Wheeling, WV, and Frankie Renee Young of Mitchell, IN; one adopted daughter, Patsy Blalock of Chicago, IL; twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was a telephone operator for Indiana Bell and was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church. Hudson – Harry Cecil Hudson of Bloomington, IN, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at Bloomington Convalescent Center. Born on December 8, 1913, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of William Thomas and Ida (Parker) Hudson. He married Dorothy Butler and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Cecil Hudson of Bloomington, IN; two brothers, Theodore Hudson of Bedford, IN, and Reuger Hudson of Springville, IN; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Dan, Charles, and W. George Hudson; four sisters: Algie Hudson (in infancy) Fern Henderson, Ruby Umphress, and Gertie Roberts; and one granddaughter. He had been a printer for Times Mail and Bedford Daily Mail newspapers. He was a member of Bethel Christian Church in Greene County. Born on January 17, 1939, in Shoals, IN, he was the son of John and Pauline (Hopkins) Sanders. He married Nadine V. Wright on December 26, 1960, and she died August 22, 1998. Surviving are five sons: Michael D. Wright and Donald W. Sanders, both of Mitchell, IN, Randy L. Sanders of Paoli, IN, Marty D. Sanders and Kenny R. Sanders, both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Tresa I. Kane of Mitchell, IN; his mother, Pauline Sanders of Shoals, IN; one sister, Ruth Willyard of Princeton, IN; three brothers: Jerry Sanders of Princeton, IN, Terry Sanders of Virginia, and Steve Sanders of Shoals, IN; fifteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his father, and three brothers: Dr. Ronald Sanders, and twins, Kenneth and Keith Sanders. Born on February 14, 1943, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Mildred (Wray) Crane. She married William E. Litkenhous on May 8, 1965, at Mt. Pleasant Church in Lawrence County, IN, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Linda) Diviney of White Lake, MI; one son, Michael Litkenhous of Indianapolis; three brothers; Merle Crane of Bedford, IN, Ben Crane, Jr. and Lowell Crane, both of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Mrs. Dennis (Melinda) Underwood of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Don Crane. She was a homemaker. She was a member and past secretary of the Lawrence County Art Association, Lawrence County Historical and Genealogical Society, and Bedford Little Theatre. Born on September 13, 1909, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James and Sarah (Allen) Mitchell. She married Edgar Hund in 1924, and he died in 1959. She married George Bee in 1969, and he died in 1987. Surviving are one son, Kenneth H. Hunt of Martinsville, IN; one daughter, Wanda F. Galyan of Bloomington, IN; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands; three brothers, Floyd, Roy, and Denny Mitchell; three sisters, Rosie Mitchell, Esta Mitchell, and Maudie (in infancy); one daughter, Mary B. McCormick; and one son, Harold Loyd Hunt. She was a homemaker and a former employee of J.C. Penney Store and Indiana University. She was a member of Leatherwood Christian Church. Services for Ella Beeman will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6th at Leatherwood Christian Church with the Rev. Lowell Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Leatherwood Christian Cemetery. Curren – Everett Howard Curren of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 27, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of John W. and Florence Mae (Easton) Curren. Surviving are two brothers, Robert Curren of Cape Coral, FL, and John S. Curren of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Maxine Scherschel of Mitchell, IN, Norma Jane Atchison, Colleen Smith, and Frances Wilson, all of Bedford, IN; and twenty nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Curren. He was a farmer and retired from Indiana Limestone Company. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Services for Everett Curren will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6th, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Bernie Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Friday and from 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The Rosary Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Born on August 20, 1999, he was the son of Roger and Tammi (Slinkard) Enochs. Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Soheila and Lisa Enochs, both of Bedford, IN; and two brothers Zackary York of Bedford, IN and Brian Enochs of Springville, IN. Services for Tavion Enochs will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 5th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
