Robbins Jr. of Orleans; one daughter, Breanna Wilson of Oolitic; his parents, Michael and Edith Robbins of Mitchell; two brothers, Michael Robbins of Fort McCoy, Wis., and Samuel Robbins of California; and one sister, Carla Fleenor of Bloomington.

Mary Lou May, 67, of 5305 Hwy. 158 W., Bedford, died at 4:58 p.m. on Thursday at the StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born Feb. 5, 1941, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Arvil Robert and Maime Glen (Hedrick) Foster. She graduated from the Alfordsville High School with the class of 1959. She married Lebert May on Dec. 3, 1965, and he survives.
She was a factory worker for Essex for over 25 years and a member of the First Assembly of God in Bedford. Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Lebert, of Bedford; one son, Dexter “Butch” May of Silverville; three daughters, Sherry Brown of Mitchell, Penny Godsey and Melissa Sullivan both of Bedford; three brothers, Jim and Donnie Foster both of Washington and Tom Foster of Dubois; two sisters, Mable Lamb of Petersburg and Helen Gotwals of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Bob Foster.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at First Assembly of God in Bedford with Pastor Terry Bryant and Pastor Glenn Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the Fayetteville Church of Christ Cemetery.

He was retired from the Miracle Food Company.
Surviving are two sisters, Arlene Timbs, Punta Gorda, Fla., and Dianna Miller, Indianapolis; three brothers, Iral J. Hestand Jr., Noblesville, David L. Hestand, Indianapolis, and Richard Hestand, Bargersville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

W. Charlene Williams, 81, Mitchell, passed away at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis.
Born Feb. 24, 1927, in Huron, she was the daughter of George and Lela (White) Tincher. She was married 63 years to Gerald D. Williams.
She retired from the payroll department at Carpenter Body Works. Charlene graduated from Huron High School in 1945 and was a member of the Mitchell Church of God.
Surviving are her husband, Gerald D. Williams of Mitchell; children: Danny Williams and wife Julia, Vicki Hudson and husband Don, and Lanny Williams and wife Mary, all of Mitchell; a sister, Pauline Merry of Bedford; grandchildren: Eric Garceau, Amy Jordan, Nick Williams, Gabe Williams, and Shane Williams; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her parents, brother, Gilbert Tincher, and sister, Genevieve King, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Memorial Chapel of the Chastain Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Flores and Pastor Roland Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Jack “Jackie” Hayes, 79, formerly of Springville, died at 7:23 a.m. Tuesday at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.
Born Sept. 28, 1928, in Greene County, he was the son of James Curtis and Sarah (Hudson) Hayes.
He was retired from Indiana Limestone Co. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Oak Grove Pentecostal Church and Local No. 741 Laborers International Union of North America over 33 years.
Survivors include three sisters: Rosella Strauser and Delight Arthur, both of Springville, and Delores Alexander of Farmersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Marvin R. and Cecil J. Hayes; and three sisters: Louise Collins, Mary Allen and Cleta Jackson.

Gladys Pinkston Blackburn, age 94, 1818 14th Street, Bedford, went to be with her Beloved Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 12:38 a.m. at Garden Villa, Bedford.
She was born on Oct. 28, 1913, in Lawrence County, to Arthur and Alice (Quackenbush) Pinkston. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1932, and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was first married to Forrest Polley and then to Charles Blackburn on Oct. 28, 1942. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1998.
In her early years, she worked for Honey Krust Bakery and the Lawrence County Assessor’s Office. She and her family started “Pinkston’s West End Flower Shop” in 1947. She retired from there in 1976.
Survivors include one son, Jimmie R. Polley and wife Sammie K., of Bedford; one granddaughter, Gwenna Polley and dear family friend, Terri B. Mahoney, both of Bedford; one sister, Edith Reath; and niece Alice Reath Robbins and her husband Dale of Bedford, niece Nancy Pinkston; and great-niece, Laura Stauffer, both of Texas; and great-nephews, Kyle Robbins of Bedford and David Arthur Pinkston of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother Forrest “Pinky” Pinkston.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with R.L. “Bud” Smith officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Roland D. Easton

Roland Dale Easton, 79, 2221 35th Steet, Bedford, died at 7 a.m. Monday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Roland Dale Easton was born Dec. 14, 1928, to Thomas A. and Anna L. Easton and brought to their rural Bedford home where brothers Roy and Raymond awaited him. Later he would be the proud big brother of a sister, Roberta Alice Gates and husband Joe of Mulberry Grove, Illinois.
He attended Shawswick School for all 12 years. Many a morning he grabbed one last biscuit on his way out the door and soon was tagged “Biscuit” the name by which he has been known to most folks.
As a teenager he bought his first truck and began the career that would dominate his working years. He was also and variously employed as a taxi driver, welder, heavy equipment operator and mechanic, and farmer.
Fixing things was probably his most notable skill and he was willing, able and ready to lend a hand to anyone — friend or stranger — who was in need.
On July 30, 1948, Jeannine Taylor became his bride and partner for life and she survives. They brought each of their four children home to the family farm and raised them there. Two boys and two girls survive him: Richard Easton and wife Kevin of Englewood, Fla., and Eric and Susan Easton, Terry and Randy Roberts, and Sherry and Jerry Umphress, all of Bedford; grandchildren: Stephen Easton, Tina Langben, Brian Roberts, Amanda Rollins and husband Josh, Aaron Wells and wife Micha, Kaelyn Bowles and husband Charlie, Kelly Wilson and husband Brent, and Kenna Allender and husband Jason; great-grandchildren: Neioh Bowles, Cameron and Carson Rollins, Michal and Drew Wilson, Luke and Emma Allender, Rayne, and Amry Wells added to his enjoyment in retirement.
During later years Roland served as an Elder of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church and was president for several years of the Limestone Christian Crusaders. He worked helping with construction and dozer work at both Wonder Valley and Scenic Hills Christian Camps.
In his memory family asks that friends consider donations to the Scenic Hills Christian Camp near Mitchell.
Sorrow touched Roland’s life as he laid to rest both of his parents; two brothers; two sisters in infancy; one great-granddaughter; and a brother-in-law before he himself rested with the Lord.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Bedford. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Veneita M. (Corbin) Anderson, 92, 1323 T Street, Bedford, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 2, 1916, in Bedford, the daughter of Everett and Della (Taylor) Corbin. She married Cecil Anderson on Nov. 6, 1940, in Bedford, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2000.
She had worked at the Reliance Shirt Factory, was a clerk at a dress shop and grocery store, was a nursing home aide, worked in the school lunch program, and served as organist at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home for the last 38 years.
She was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1934, was a member of and organist for Hillcrest Christian Church, was past president of the Lawrence County Extension Homemakers Club, past president of Spring Mill Unit 1 Extension Homemakers Club, and past president of the Boys Club Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Ned Anderson and wife Diana of Bedford; two grandsons: Chad Anderson and Darin Anderson, both of Bedford; four granddaughters: Julie Terrell, Jessica Grubb and Jacy Stevens, all of Bedford and Jordan Smith of Williams; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jim Anderson; and a sister.

Daniel J. Godsey, 82, of Bedford, died Friday at Core Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bedford.
Born June 5, 1926, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Walter Daniel and Elizabeth Lona (Patton) Godsey.
He retired from NAD Crane in 1994 after more than 30 years of service working on road and grounds maintenance. He attended Grace Methodist Church in Bedford, and was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army. He loved to read, watch old westerns and play his guitar.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Godsey of Bedford, whom he married Sept. 18, 1948, in Lawrence County; three sons, Danny Lee Godsey and wife, Lucy, Donald Eugene Godsey and wife, Betty, and Charles Louis “Chuck” Godsey, all of Bedford; four grandchildren, Michael Godsey, Melissa Wray and husband, Tim, Joanna Salvaty and husband, Vito, and Daniel Lee Godsey and wife, Beth; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Evelyn Duncan of Lutz, Fla.; and one brother, Jack Carter of Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother, a sister, a brother, a sister in infancy, one granddaughter, Barbara Godsey, and a great-grandson, Daniel Olin Godsey.

Alice Joyce MacDonald, 76, of Bedford, died Friday at Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Born June 18, 1932, in Paoli, Ind., she was the daughter of Roy and Emma Faye (Richardson) Daugherty.
She retired from RCA in Bloomington in 1985. She was a member of the Bedford Baptist Temple.
Survivors include her husband, Lester MacDonald of Bedford; four sons, David W. MacDonald of Winslow, Roy Eugene MacDonald and wife, Jan, of Defiance, Ohio, Jon M. MacDonald and wife, Jennifer, of Mitchell, and Victor M. MacDonald and wife, Sharon, of Georgia; one brother, George “Bud” Daugherty and wife, Lucille, of Bell Center, Ohio; and one sister, Ava “Pat” Horton of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He was a restaurant owner, formerly owned Steak & Egger in Bloomington, also was co-owner Jawns Hamburgers in Bloomington, also worked at Scotty’s Hamburger in Bloomington. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Wayne M. Anderson, 96, a resident of White River Lodge, died at 3:05 a.m. on Tuesday at White River Lodge.
Born Feb. 11, 1912, in Bedford, he was the son of Oscar and Elizabeth (Rich) Anderson. He married Viola Lee and she preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2007.
He was a meter reader with the water department for the City of Bedford and of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Air Force. Wayne was a past ninth district adjutant for the American Legion. He was a life-time member of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion where he had served as a past commander and was a member of the 40 & 8.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Cummings and husband Ronald of Bedford; a granddaughter, Heather Cummings of Plainfield; and two sisters: Clara Bartley and Mary Smith both of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Viola and five brothers.

Born on July 13, 1910, in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Schuyler Meadows and Alma (Pender) Meadows. She first married Charles E. Mitchell and he preceded her in death in 1941. She later married Luther L. Mitchell.
Surviving are four daughters: Carol Joan Goff of West Palm Beach, Fla., Donna Gayle Pace of Bedford; Sandy Wheeler of Nashville, Tenn. and Dianne M. McKay and husband, Glen of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; one daughter, Norma Jean Mitchell; one grandchild; three sisters: Helen McDowell, Bertha Mitchell and Gladys Stump; and three brothers: Oren, Albert and Harry Meadows.

She was a retail clerk for Kirlin’s Hallmark and J.C. Penney in Bedford and a member of the First Christian Church.

She was the clerk-treasurer for the town of Oolitic from 1956 to 1980 and retired after 24 years. She was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, grandkids and friends.
Survivors include one son, Patrick D. Pritchett and wife Janet of Bedford; one grandson, Denny D. Jerry Moody, 70, rural Springville, died at 11:55 a.m. Monday at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born in 1938, he was the son of Gerald and Esta Moody. He married Edna Dobson on June 14, 1958, and she survives.
He was retired from Thomson Consumer Electronics in Bloomington. He attended the Sylvania Community Church in Greene County, and was a member of the K-Mart Cruisers Club.
Surviving with his wife, Edna Moody of Springville; are one daughter, Susan Wade and husband Donald of Bedford; one granddaughter, Leah Wade of Bedford; two stepgrandsons: Brad and Doug Rochford of Indianapolis; two brothers: Dale Moody of Washington, and Dean Moody of Arizona; three sisters: Rebecca Strietelmier of Terre Haute, Betty DeMoss and husband Don of Indianapolis, and Patricia Baker of Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Amy Voorhies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Moody Rochford; and brother, Charles Moody.

Lester “Gene” Johnson, 77, of 301 R Street, Bedford, passed away at 8:28 p.m. on Sunday at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born Aug. 8, 1931, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Lester H. and Arla V. (Wagner) Johnson. He married Ruth Kindred on Jan. 20, 1951, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 1993. He later married Sondra “Soni” (Ray) McSoley and she survives.
He was a locomotive engineer with the Monon Railroad over 30 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Donica Church of God, Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14 F & AM and the Murat Shrine. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Sondra “Soni” Johnson of Bedford; one daughter, Kathleen Pearson and husband Stephen of Beavercreek, Ohio; two grandsons: Kyle Pearson and wife Katie Tuss of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Air Force First Lieutenant Kory Pearson stationed at Eglin A.F.B. in Ft. Walton Beach, FL; three stepchildren: Michael Sowder and wife Kim, of Bloomington, Karen Fair and husband Don and Melanie Rainey and husband Ed, all of Bedford; six stepgrandsons: Jason, Josh and Jacob Sowder, Logan Fair, Brian and Sam Rainey; and one step-great-grandson, Nathaniel Sowder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kendall Hendrickson officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Alicia Ann (Teitsort) Campen, 70, of 2216 26th Street, Bedford, died at 6:56 a.m. Sunday at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove.
Born Sept. 25, 1937, she was the daughter of Ernest and Blossom (Bennett) Teitsort. She married Eldon Campen on Sept. 6, 1957, and he survives.
Alicia was employed at ‘R’ Street Grocery for 20 years and was a realtor for 21 years. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford.
Survivors include her husband, Eldon of Bedford; two sons: Ralph Campen and wife Sue, Gordon Campen and wife Kathy; two grandchildren: Jacob Campen and wife Jamie and Jennifer Campen; a sister, Katie Pannkuk and husband Gene; a brother, John Teitsort; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and one grandson (in infancy).
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Neuman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Donald M. Bush

Donald M. Bush, 84, Orleans, died Friday at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.
Born Feb. 19, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of George W. and Nellie Wes (Love) Bush.
He attended school in Mitchell and joined the United States Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He suffered a broken back, while serving in Guam and after six moths of recuperation, he returned to active duty in Pearl Harbor.
He married Adren Louisa “Lou” Pridemore on March 21, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna and David Conley and Judy and Vencil Crews; and one son, William Scott Bush, all of Orleans; four grandchildren, Donald and Dana Conley of Hagerstown, Md., Deetra and Bobby Busick and Davona and Tab Street, all of Orleans, and Jeremy Scott Brown of Bloomington; eight great-grandchildren, Danielle, David, Donna Jo, and Destiny Conley of Hagerstown, Md., Hope and Linza Busick and Haley and Tavin Street, all of Orleans; two sisters, Marcia Pruett and Mildred Ruth Reynolds, both of Mitchell; and a good family friend, Dennis Rumple of Orleans.
After Mr. Bush returned home from the service, he began working at Holmes Hardware in Mitchell and then went to Allison Motors in Bedford (now GM Powertrain). While working, he began classes at Indiana University and graduated from the School of Business in 1953. He then worked at Roberts Brass and then for Prudential Insurance Company.
He began teaching fifth grade at Springs Valley Schools, then sixth grade at Mitchell. In 1965, he earned his Masters Degree from Indiana University, School of Education, and began as principal at the Huron School and later was co-principal at the new Burris School in Mitchell. In 1981, he was principal of Huron and Hatfield Schools.
He retired from the Mitchell Schools in 1987. He was then Director of the Senior Games and Latch Key “Safer” programs with Hoosier Uplands. He was a member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228, the Mitchell American Legion, Cecil Martin Post No. 250, and the Mitchell VFW, Marvin Davis Post No. 9107. He was a life member of the DAV in Mitchell and the Mitchell Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association. He attended the Bethel Community Church in Orleans.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Brother David Conley and Brother Donald Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Community Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mitchell American Legion.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home by the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228.

Mike D. Gerkin, 51 of Mitchell, passed away at 8:33 p.m. Thursday at Bloomington Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1957, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Bernard and Helen (Pruett) Gerkin. He married Glenda Kern on May 26, 1995, and she survives.
He was employed at Hall Brothers Trucking Company. He enjoyed sprint cars and go-cart racing with his grandsons and friends.
Surviving with his wife, Glenda Gerkin of Mitchell, are daughters, Andrea Lake and Amanda Terrell, both of Mitchell; a son, Jason Gerkin of Mitchell; his mother, Helen Gerkin of Bedford; brothers, Randy Gerkin of Mitchell, Billy Gerkin of Bedford, Jimmy Gerkin of Indianapolis and Dean Gerkin of Mitchell; sisters, Annette Berry of Oolitic, Jean Gerkin of Bedford, and Tammy Gerkin of Salem; and grandchildren, Cody Lake, Nikki Gerkin, and Allie Bastin, all of Mitchell.
His father preceded him in death.

Born April 27, 1914, in Bryantsville, she was the daughter of Osee and Dora (Chapman) Bex. She married Jasper Cottengain and he preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1963. She then marriedCarl E. Haley and he also preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1983.
“She was a lifelong homemaker, as rearing five sons was a lifetime job.”
She is survived by four sons, David Cottengaim and wife Beth of Orleans, Menlo Cottengaim and wife Irene, Donald Cottengaim and wife Sandra, and Ermal Dean Cottengaim and wife Annette, all of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one son, Glen E. Cottengaim; four brothers, Mark, Ralph, Jack, and Bine Bex; and five sisters, Anice Miller, Ama Padgett, Grace Taylor, Helen Cottengaim and her twin sister, Agnes Frost.

She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the class of 1990. She loved to build dollhouses and do crossword puzzles.

Born Aug. 19, 1928, in Spice Valley Township, she was the daughter of Earl and Dora (Chapman) Dumond. She first married Bob Conley in 1946, then David Tolbert in 1954. She was marred in April of 1967 to William Harold Boone and he preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1993.
She was a housewife and mother and had been employed at Trav-Ler Radio and Television in Orleans and M. Fine & Sons in Bedford.
She was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ in Huron.
Survivors include two sons, William H. Conley of Mitchell, 1st Sgt. Michael Joe Conley and wife Dolores of Canton, Ga.; five grandchildren, Carol Lynn Barber, Robert E. Conley, Shannon Dean Conley, Michael Conley and Christopher Conley; and nieces and nephews, Ida Rose, Leonard Dale Bex, Boby Earl Bex, Mildred Sue Meeks, Maddona Meadows, Linda Ann, Franklin Dumond and Georgia Ann Dumond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, one son, Clifford Dean Conley, who passed away in April of 1958, while in the third grade at Huron; one brother, Franklin “Dago” Dumond; and two sisters, Ida (Anice) Bex and Mary Alice Carter.

Born Sept. 3, 1923, in Lawrence County, he was the son of James M. and Minnie Pearl (Patton) Reynolds. He married Lois E. Boruff and she died April 28, 2004.
He retired as a crane operator at NWSC Crane. He had worked for Howard Crulo Trucking Co. in Avoca for many years and was a member of the Men’s Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post No. 1686 of Oolitic.
Survivors include three sons, Brian C. Reynolds and wife Debbie of Avon, Ronnie Reynolds of Lawrence County, and Darrel Reynolds of Nevada; three daughters, Karen Marcella Prince and husband John of Idaho, Rachel Bryant and husband Roger of California, and Carolyn Bartelson and husband Bob of Kentucky; four sisters, Lina E. McPherson and husband Jim of Shoals, Dolly Gaddy of North Carolina, Dorothy Philpot of Judah and Ruby Reynolds of Bedford; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Kevin S. “Fatman” Hudson, 43, 42 Old Needmore School Road, Bedford, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday at his residence, after a lengthy illness
Born April 24, 1965, in Bedford, he was the son of John and Darlene Hudson. He married Cynthia Rose on Dec. 27, 1992, and she survives.
He was disabled and previously was Karaoke King of Southern Indiana. He was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the class of 1983 and was a Civil War buff.
Surviving with his wife, Cynthia Hudson of Bedford; are daughters: April Hudson of South Bend, EvaMae Hudson at home; his parents, John and Darlene Hudson of Bedford; three brothers: Jeffery Hudson and John Hudson II of Bedford, and Jackie Hudson of Muncie; one sister, Jill Vaught of Crane Village, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and one niece in infancy.
Kevin will be sadly missed by his many friends and family.

Born July 12, 1920, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Donley and Lottie (Hawkins) Lively. She married John William Stipp on Aug. 23, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2003.
She was retired from Westinghouse and was a member of the Heltonville Baptist Church.
Survivors include three children: Gloria Hoppe Archer and husband John, Connie Bechner and husband Dave, and Bill Stipp and wife Judy; five grandchildren: Jami Bechner, Jonathon Hoppe, Todd Kelly, Andrew Stipp and Richard Archer; six great-grandchildren: Katie, Taylor, Elizabeth, John Andrew, Matt and Michael; and one sister, Thelma Deckard and husband Herman.

Joyce E. Baker, 82, Scottsburg, passed away at 1:13 p.m. Tuesday at her residence.
She was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Mitchell, the daughter of the late Samuel Earl and Florence Maybelle (McGrew) Edmonson. She married Howard W. Baker and he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 2001.
She was a homemaker, a former assistant manager at the old A&W Root Beer restaurant in Scottsburg, a former crossing guard and cafeteria cook at Scottsburg Elementary School and a former cook for the Democrat Election Board. She was a former member of the Lambda Chi Omega Sorority.
Survivors include sons: Danny W. (Sue) Baker of Crothersville, Lanny H. (Wanda) Baker of Scottsburg, Michael D. (Crystal) Baker of Seymour, and Joseph K. Baker of Scipio; a daughter, Margaret A. (Paul) Bowen, Scottsburg; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Phillip and William Raymond Edmonson; and two sisters: Leona Russell and Pearl Knight.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Scottsburg with the Rev. Robert Flynn officiating. Interment will follow at Scottsburg Cemetery.

Born Jan. 12, 1924, in Bedford, she was the daughter of William J. and Edna (Guthrie) McWilliams. She married William H. Alter June 20, 1948, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1998.
She was a former teacher at Lincoln and Parkview elementary schools in Bedford. She received her BA degree from Indiana University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa, Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association, and A.A.U.W.
Survivors include one daughter, Emily Roberts and husband Randy of Bloomington; three sons: Gary Alter and wife Mary of Brownsburg, Brian Alter and wife Rebecca of Ellettsville, and Gregory Alter and wife Leila of Bedford; five grandchildren: Lucas Roberts and wife Jenny of Ellettsville, Mitchell Roberts of Quinton, Va., Maggie Roberts of Bloomington, Ryan Alter and Holly Alter of Brownsburg; and one great-grandson, Reece Roberts of Ellettsville.

She attended Bedford High School and worked for Central Foundry, RCA, Greystone Hotel, Arthur Murray Dance Studio and was self employed for Mary Frances Little Ballroom Dance Studio in Bedford.
She and her late husband, Thomas, resided in Bonita Springs, Fla., for 27 years but continued to spend their summers in Bedford. Mary was a member of the First Christian Church of Bedford. Mary and her friends and family will always remember her love of dancing, music, dominos, card playing, good fun and her profound sense of loving people as well as her hometown of Bedford.
An 11 a.m. memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at Day & Carter Mortuary, 1133 Lincoln Avenue (12th Street), Bedford. Friends may visit with her family at Day & Carter from 10 to 11 a.m. on August 14.
A burial service will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

Dewey R. Barker, 91, 309 M St., Bedford, died Sunday morning at his residence. He fought a brave battle with cancer for 14 years.
He was a retired pipe fitter and plumber. He was a veteran of World War II. He was of the Protestant faith and a member of Pipe Fitters Union Local No. 136, and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.
Dewey was born on Feb. 6, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., to Daniel and Josephine (Barker) Barker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Sykes; two daughters, Mrs. Lanny (Sonja) Blanton, and Mrs. Rick (Debbie) Strunk; five grandchildren, Terry Slinkard Jr., Tammi Strunk, Misty New, Marla Kirkman, and Mathew Strunk; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Ramona Godsey; and one brother, D.J. Barker Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one brother; and one great-grandson, Tavion Enochs.
A graveside service was at noon today at Beech Grove Cemetery.

Robert G. Good, 81, a Bedford resident since 1972, died at 3:48 p.m. Friday at Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 24, 1926, in Stafford Township, Greene County, he was the son of Charles Vergil and Ruby Emma (Lacy) Good. He married Wilma Jean Core on Oct. 3, 1947. He later married Helen Lucille (Sullivan) Priddy on June 24, 1972.
He was retired from the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot, Crane, serving from April 29, 1944 until April 12, 1978.
He was a graduate of Marco High School with the class of 1944. He was a member of the Midtown Church of Christ and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from Feb. 3, 1944 to Nov. 26, 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Lucille Good, Bedford; one son, Robert Eugene Good and wife Margo Lynn of Linton; one daughter, Misty Dawn Bocock and husband Kelly of Bedford; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Priddy Kimmel and husband Joseph, and Susan Priddy Grimes and husband James, all of Bedford; one stepson, Jerry Lee Priddy and wife Lisa of Amelia, Ohio; grandchildren, Rhett Eugene Good, Robyn Lynn Good Schaeffer and Jace Bocock; stepgrandchildren, Zachary Kimmel, Nicole Kimmel, Charlie Priddy, Helen Priddey, Thelma Priddy, Kathleen Grimes, and Drew Grimes; great-grandchildren, Brayden Schaeffer, Brody Schaeffer, Andrew Robert Good, and Ashlyn Schaeffer; one brother, Paul W. Good and wife Margaret of Kyle Texas; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Good Bliznik of Griffith.

Thad Moore, 90, Mitchell, passed at 7:41 p.m. Thursday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born Aug. 7, 1918, in French Lick, he was the son of Raymond and Myrtle (Stout) Moore. He married Ruth M. Jolley on Nov. 19, 1940, and she survives.
He retired from Bedford National Bank and was previously a salesman for Chase Chevrolet in Bedford. Thad graduated from Mitchell High School in 1936 and was a member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 228.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.
Surviving with his wife Ruth M. Moore, Bedford; are a son, Daniel T. Moore and wife Jackie of Bedford; a daughter, Maryanne Williams of Deltona, Fla.; grandchildren, Nick Williams of Fishers, Jason Moore of Bedford, and Erin Blosser of Noblesville; and 10 great-grandchildren.
His parents; and sister, Gretchen Cooper, preceded him in death.

He was a sheet metal worker and member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #216 & 20. He had farmed for many years and was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church and Gillen Post #33 American Legion.

She retired from the Robertson Corporation of Bedford in 1993. She was a member of First Church of God in Bedford and a Pink Lady Volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Born June 25, 1922, in Rockport, she was the daughter of H.D. and Blanche (Lehman) Jackson. She married James Art Maxwell on Feb. 15, 1953, and he died in May of 1977.
She was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1940.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford, where she had been a deaconess, Sunday School secretary for 50 years and Lydia Circle president; American Heart Association for 50 years, having served as president; Young Republicans; Church Women United; LIFE founding committee, and Parkview Elementary School PTA, having served as president. She had been a Republican precinct committee person.
Survivors include one son, Jack Maxwell and wife Christie of Bedford; one daughter, Susan Lewis and husband Darren of Bedford; three granddaughters, Megan Maxwell, Ashley Maxwell and Maggie B. Lewis, all of Bedford; one great-grandson, James Evan Jett, Bedford; one sister, Phyllis Nikirk, Redkey; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and many dear friends.

Russell O. “Rocky” Chandler, 64, of 424 South Kenray Lake Road, Bedford passed away Saturday at Bloomington Hospital.
Born on Oct. 30, 1943, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Elza J. Chandler and Beatrice Mae (Colglazier) Chandler. Mr. Chandler married Marilyn M. Morgan on March 19, 1973, and she survives.
An employee for RCA in Bloomington, he left and started his own garage in the late 70s and early 80s where he worked as a mechanic. He then started his own construction and remodeling business where he was still active and was also president of the board for Kenray Lake.
Surviving with his wife, Marilyn of Bedford; are one son, A.J. Chandler and wife Christina of Bedford; two daughters, Marla Chandler-Akins and husband Teddy of Bedford and Tammy Morgan of Bedford; five grandchildren, Shelby Chandler, Sarah Morgan, Regan Howell, Connor Morgan and Madison Chandler; three sisters, Jeannette Silvers and Marsha Ryan. both of Bedford, and Ginny Hawley of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Arnold Chandler.

Harold B. Spinks

Harold B. “Tiny” Spinks, 76, Ocala, Fla., owner of Spinks Auto Sales in Ocala, died Wednesday.
He was born in Bedford on May 30, 1932, to Alma and John B. Spinks. He married Patricia (Veal) Spinks in 1952, and she survives.
He was self-employed at age 17, running a vegetable stand, sold furniture in his father’s furniture store and worked in the limestone mills. He obtained great distinction with the Indiana University School of Music, and was invited to the Metropolitan Opera. Instead, he got married and raised two sons, John Raymond Spinks and Timothy Harold Spinks.
He began working at RCA in 1951, worked there for 22 years and attended RCA’s electronics technician school and became supervisor of TV assembly lines. Harold moved to Florida in 1976 and trained and sold insurance in Orlando for five and a half years, during which he was in the “Million Dollar Circle.” When the recession was over he was hired by Martin Marietta of Ocala, Fla., to supervise the building of the most accurate missile built today. After this project was finished he was supervisor over the night shift at Martin Marietta in Ocala.
Harold then started Spinks Auto Sales and has been at North Jacksonville Road for 26 years. He loved his church and served on different committees. He was a deacon and Elder at Central Christian Church of Ocala, He filled the pulpit of several small churches, both in Indiana and Florida. He started and sang tenor with the “Christian Heirs” gospel quartet, traveling to area churches and events for over 40 years. His most memorable experiences were of Christian gospel cruises and a visit to Jerusalem in 1995.
His family includes his wife of 56 years, Patricia Ann; children, John R. and Jeanette Spinks, Carthage, N.C., Timothy H. and Debra Spinks, Windslow, Ariz.; grandchildren, Angela (Spinks) and Mark Hodgkins, Summerville, S.C., Sheryl (Spinks) and Jeff Elsey, Redlands, Calif., and John B. and Jessy Spinks, Raleigh, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Clayton Elsey, Jovi Elsey, Destany Hodgkins, and Fayth Hodgkins; three sisters, Anna Gobert, Bloomington, Esther Lawmaster, Bedford, and Jane Callahan, deceased; many nieces and nephews from Indiana; and his dog Snoopy.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Central Christian Church in Ocala. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the service.

He retired in 1996 from Chrysler after 30 years of service.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church. She had been a member of Phi Beta Psi sorority, and was a Brownie leader and cookie chairman of the Girl Scouts Tulip Trace Council.
Candy was a painter and wallpaper hanger and had been employed at the Jay C Store, United Technologies, Hoosier Uplands, Just Kids Daycare and Cedar Hill Banquet and Catering. She had also been the owner of the Bric-Brac Shop in Mitchell.
Surviving are her husband, Amel K. Kern, Williams; sons, Stacey Kern and Cory Kern, both of Williams; her parents, Jack and Mickey Doub of Mitchell; siblings, Connie Lewis and husband Steve of Mitchell, Cary Doub and wife Beth of Bloomington; and Carmen Burton of Orleans; granddaughters, Kelsey and Stacia Kern; and several nieces and nephews.
