Even though he was limited verbally and physically, he loved listening to his mother read about Jesus, heavenly things, and listening to music praising God. May 04, 2022 Denver Kennett Nov. 11, 1944 — April 28, 2022 Denver was with us 77 years. Born the youngest of 8 children to Willis and Lillian Kennett in Guilford, Indiana, he loved school and sports as a kid. In High School Denver was the 1963 Indiana State High Jump Champion, the three-time EIAC High Jump and Long Jump Champion, three-time EIAC 440 Yard Dash Champion, two-time EIAC member of the Mile Relay Team, Member of Pat O’Neil’s first undefeated football season, and repeatedly recognized point, rebound, and free-throw player in basketball. Denver went on to earn an athletic scholarship to University of Kentucky, where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education and spent his career committed to equipping students with both knowledge and gently guided self-discipline. He was an encouraging person recognized to represent the best in educators, ultimately retiring as Principal of Shawswick Elementary School here in Lawrence County. He and his wife, Delores, spent winters in Lutz, Florida, where he played golf, hunted bargains, and enjoyed frequent and friendly poker games. Denver and Delores returned home to Bedford last Wednesday night, ready to take up their summer residence and looking forward to all their favorite pursuits, but Denver passed away peacefully in his sleep sometime Thursday morning. Denver was certainly loved and admired by too many to name here, but all would agree he was a wonderful friend and neighbor; selfless, caring, remarkably intelligent, patient and kind. He was the proud father of Dena Kennett (David Collins) and stepson Scott Clark, age 13 when Denver married Delores. Scott and his former wife, Penny Clark, gave Denver and Delores four wonderful and treasured grandchildren: Tanner, Austin, Jackson, and Autumn, who will sorely miss their “Papa”. There will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life is to be announced in late summer or fall. We sincerely thank Justin at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans for handling Denver’s cremation with grace and the utmost care. The family welcomes online condolences at “Ochstetrick.net” as well as those mailed to the Kennett residence in Bedford.
