David D. Haley age 75 of Bedford passed away on Monday November 28, 2022 at his home.

He was born in Bedford on September 11, 1947 to James and Mary (Reynolds) Coulter.

David was a graduate of Bloomington High School, was a veteran of the US Army, he was retired from NWSC Crane.

Survivors include his children, Lori (Todd) Muder of Ocala, Florida, Robyn (Travis) Muder of Bedford, and Brent Haley of Bedford, five grandchildren, Dakota Matthews, Jessica Muder, Alyssa Muder, Haley Muder and Brady Muder, two brothers, Kerry (Sandra) Coulter of Bedford and James Coulter of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation was chosen, Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.

Elliaunna Margi Plummer

Elliaunna Margi Plummer, 20 months, of Bedford passed away on November 26, 2022 at 4:28 Pm at IU Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 25, 2021 to Cheyenne Hill and Aron Plummer, she attended Blackwell Pentecostal Church with her mother.

Survivors include her mother, Cheyenne Hill of Bedford, her father, Aron Plummer of Missouri, sister, Clara Plummer, grandmother, Michelle Fleener of Bedford, grandfather, Dustin Kluesner of Bedford, grandfather, Robert Plummer of Radcliffe, Kentucky, great grandparents, Myra and Jeremiah Baker of Bedford and Steve and Nancy East of Maryland, uncle, Devin Lee of Maryland, aunts, Jennifer East of Bloomington, Brenda Carr of Kentucky and Mary Martin of Silverville, great aunts, Melinda French of Mitchell, Tricia of Bedford, Mary Hanks of Oolitic and Megan Chavallier of Bloomington, great uncle, Eric East of Bloomington, cousins, Georgia Ingram, Julia McClain, Benjamin Hill, Heaven Cooper, Adalynn Smith, Owen Smith, Noah Smith, Maddison Watterson, Elijah Kimmel, Ryker East, Landon Jorge East and Jarrod Hanks. Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM on Monday December 5, 2022 at Cresthaven Funeral Home with Pastor Darin Bolen, officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday December 4, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Cresthaven Funeral Home.

Doel Dwayne Baughman

March 02, 1940 — Nov. 27, 2022

Doel Dwayne Baughman, 82, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022 at his residence.

Born March 2, 1940, in Charlestown, he was the son of Spencer and Ruby (Standiford) Baughman. He married Nancy Russell July 28, 1973 and she preceded him in death January 15, 1995. He then married Claudia Jean “Jeannie” Helton May 7, 2004 and she preceded him in death March 27, 2010.

Dwayne was a 1958 graduate of Pike Central High School and he received his bachelor’s degree from the John Herron School of Art & Design at IUPUI. He worked as a graphic artist and retired from General Motors as a millwright and was a member of the GM Fire Brigade. He was an active farmer and golfer and did both until he was no longer able. Dwayne was a member of the Mitchell First Baptist Church. He always said he “bled black and gold” as an avid Purdue University and West Point Military Academy fan. Dwayne also loved listening to the Creekside Band at Spring Mill.

Surviving are his children, Brandt (Allyson) Baughman of Indianapolis, Doel (Keri) Baughman of Henderson, Tennessee, and Autumn Baughman of Mitchell; and grandchildren, Brenna, Torin, Asher, and Anya.

His parents; wives; and siblings, Noel Wayne Baughman, Greta Sue Powell, Reta Lou Myers, Spencer Ivan Baughman, and Larry Dale Baughman preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, at the Mitchell First Baptist Church with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the First Baptist Church.

Paul Eugene “Gene” Porter

March 20, 1928 — Nov. 28, 2022

Paul Eugene “Gene” Porter, 94, of Bedford passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022, at White River Lodge.

Born on March 20, 1928, he was the son of Paul Henry and Leona (Skeen) Porter. He married Evelyn Marie (Chestnut) Porter on June 19, 1948, and she preceded him in death.

Paul retired from General Motors where he worked as a Salvage Mechanic. He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and a member of Central Church of Christ. He was in the United States Navy and was a WWII Veteran.

Surviving to cherish Gene’s memory is his son, Roger Porter and wife, Lynn; two grandsons, Seth Porter and Joshua Porter and wife, Amy; two great grandsons, Luke Porter and Levi Porter; and great granddaughter, Leah Porter.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; parents, Paul and Leona; two brothers, Wayne and Clifford; and three sisters, Clarice, Minnie, and Marilou.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Rick Leach officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Cemetery with Military Rites being accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 10:00am to the service time at 1:00pm at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel in Bedford.

David Loy Mitchell

Aug. 28, 1939 — Nov. 23, 2022

David Loy Mitchell, 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at his residence.

Born August 28, 1939, in Mitchell, he was the son of Andrew and Elsie Eva (Clouse) Mesarosh. He married Norma Kay Halverstadt.

David was a US Army veteran stationed in South Korea. He received his bachelor’s degree from Point Loma University in 1965. David owned a printing business in Lancaster, California for nineteen years and was a pastor in the Nazarene Church for over twenty years. He retired as pastor at the Shoals Church of the Nazarene. As a child David fell out of a moving car, but he survived and then remembered the verse “Jesus wept.” He decided to serve the Lord and dedicated himself to helping others and spreading the word of God as his life’s pursuit. He and his wife, Norma, traveled the world on mission to translate the Bible into languages that have yet to have translations printed. Together they sought to bring the Word of God to unreached peoples. David worked on multiple Bible translations for Wycliffe Bible Translators over the years and made multimedia presentations in many different churches.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Kay Mitchell of Bloomington; children, Carol (Charles) Linnell of Valdez, Alaska, Keith (Jenny) Mitchell of Ladera Ranch, California, Kimberly (Mike) Veasy of Palm Bay, Florida; grandchildren, Robert Stark, Tiffani Le Bouef, and Ron Veasy; great-grandchildren, Madisyn Stark, Hunter Carlson, Wesley Le Bouef, James Le Bouef, Wesley Stark, Wade Stark, Declan Stark, and Daniel Stark; siblings, Phillip (Maria) Mesarosh of Prescott, Arizona and Stephen Mesarosh of Peachtree City, Georgia.

His parents; granddaughter, Savanna Bearman; and sister, Nancy Mesarosh, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Tim Crump officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.

Velta May Lashbrook (Nelson)

Sept. 12, 1926 — Nov. 25, 2022

Velta May Lashbrook (Nelson), 96, of Orleans, passed away at 11:40 PM on November 25, 2022 at IU Health Bedford.

She was born September 12, 1926 in French Lick, IN, the daughter of Lee and Jessie (Allen) Nelson. She married Robert Lashbrook on December 6, 1944 and he survives.

She was a homemaker and a member of Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford.

She is survived by her husband of Orleans; one daughter, Joyanne Stewart of Rockhouse, KY; two grandchildren, Stephen and Jim Stewart and two great grandchildren, Jimmy and Megan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Arnold Lashbrook; one son-in-law, James Franklin Stewart and two sisters, Hazel Lashbrook and Catherine Gromer.

The funeral will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford, Indiana with Pastor David Ferry and Pastor Stephen Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans. Friends are invited to visitation at the church on Friday from 11:00 AM until service time. Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans is in charge of these arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Englewood Baptist Church.

Georgia F. Henderson

Georgia F. Henderson, 93, of New Albany, IN, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Floyd Baptist Hospital in New Albany.

Born April 28, 1929, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Essie (Horner) Speer. She married Joseph Henderson and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church in New Albany.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Eugene Henderson, of New Albany and Jordan Lawrence Henderson and his wife Susan, of Ohio; two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 1st in the Fairview Community Cemetery with Rev. Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm on Thursday, December 1st at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Presbyterian Church in New Albany.

Roger W. Webster, 78, of Mitchell, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at his residence.

Born July 1, 1944, in Bedford, he was the son of Haskell “Doc” and Wilma (Johnson) Webster. He was a sign installer for Johnny’s Signs and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include two sons, Roger W. Webster, II (Ioda), of Mitchell and Reid Webster, of Bedford; a daughter, Cynthia L. Martens (Jon), of Middletown, IN; twelve grandchildren, Melinda (Alex), Abigail (Timothy), Jon Michael, Caroline, Mary-Kate, Michael, Brandon, Joshua, Ian, Alton, Natali, and Stacey; a great-grandson, Logan; five sisters, Wanda Piper, Gloria Skeen, Linda Miller (Steve), Jeana Cox, and Iris Jo Sego (Ernest).

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 28th at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Pastor Kyle Hall officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 1:30 pm on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Barbara Hillenburg

Barbara Hillenburg, 87, of Bedford died Friday, November 25, 2022, at her residence.

Born April 28, 1935, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Beryl J. and Frances Elizabeth (Owens) Pruett. She married Charles Hillenburg on May 3, 1953.

Barbara’s first job was working for Walls and Walls Insurance in Bedford, she then went to work at the Fayetteville school where she worked many years as a teacher’s aide, she later retired from the Dollar General Store on the Bedford Square where she was the manager. She attended the Fayetteville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Charlie of Bedford; a daughter Debbie Emmons and her husband Stephen Lopp of Bedford; two grandchildren, Amanda Wright, and her husband Chad of Bedford, Michael Emmons, and his wife Lorie of Bedford; five great grandchildren: Kody Emmons and Ashlyn Bender, Ellie Emmons and her fiancé Allen Huffman, Levi Wright and his wife Sadie, Larissa Wright and Bradley Crane, and Logan Wright and his fiancé Laney Hayes; a great great grandson, Grayson Laine Wright; a sister, Mary Lou Thompson, and her husband Harold of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Steven E. Hillenburg, three brothers, Robert D. Pruett, and James G. Pruett, Glen D. Pruett, and one sister, Marilyn Jean Conrad.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 1st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will follow in the New Union Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, November 30th and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Mary White

Mary White, 80, of Williams, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at her residence.

Born September 17, 1942, in New Albany, IN, she was the daughter of John and Marjorie (Turner) Hunter.

She had worked at GE and RCA as an assembler, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church and enjoyed her card club, being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly White (Chris), of Shelbyville; two sons, Kent White (Dana), of Bedford and Kevin White, of Williams; two granddaughters, Timber Browning (Noah), of Bedford and Kelsey Mikels (Jeremy), of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Emma, Bella, and Bear Browning, Kameron White, MaKenna White, and MaKenzie White, Hadlee, Logan, Bailey, Hunter, Aubree, and Dakota Mikels; one sister, Brenda Hackett, of NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John “Ed” Hunter.

Paul Wayne Thompson

Paul Wayne Thompson, 73, of Owensburg, IN, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at his residence.

Born on December 16, 1948, he was the son of Delmar L. and Betty J. (Roberts) Thompson. He married Virginia “Ginny” Hanson on April 2, 1973, and she survives.

Paul Wayne attended Eastern Greene High School and graduated with the class of 1966. He worked for NSWC Crane as a tool room manager and was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed growing flowers, hunting, fishing, and farming.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Paul Wayne is his wife, Ginny; daughters, Leigh (Shane) Roberts and Carianne (Josh) Helms; grandchildren, Colden Roberts, Kale Helms, and Lucas Helms; siblings, Patty Helton, Philip (Peg) Thompson, and Peggy (Jeff) Hutchens; sisters-in-law, Beth (David) Roberts, Amy (Phil) Thorne, and Katie Hanson; father-in-law, Billy Combs; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Paul Wayne in death are his parents; granddaughter, Hunter Roberts-Sims; mother-in-law, Kathleen Combs; father-in-law, Joe Hanson; and brothers-in-law, Lowell Helton and Danny Joe Hanson.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Military Rites being accorded. Rebecca Ann Goldsberry

Rebecca Ann Goldsberry, 74, formerly of Huron, passed away Friday, November 25, 2022, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital.

Born November 18, 1948 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Willis and Naomi Faye (Watterson) Bowden. She married William George Goldsberry on April 4, 1969 and he preceded her in death May 11, 2010.

Rebecca retired after 30 years from CVS. She was a 1967 graduate of Mitchell High School. Rebecca was of the Christian Faith and a member of the Mitchell Outdoor Sportsman Club Auxillary.

Survivors include her son, William George Goldsberry, Jr. of Bedford; daughters, Wendy Ann (Michael) Reef of Bedford and Amy Michelle (Matthew) Doering of Springville; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren

Her parents and husband preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, at Port Williams Cemetery.

Etta Mae (Chambers) Peyton

Etta Mae (Chambers) Peyton, 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the Waterview Nursing and Rehab Facility in Hampton, VA.

Born April 5, 1937, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Edford Olaf Chambers, Sr. and Velvia (Baldwin) Chambers.

Etta was a 1955 graduate of Bedford High School. She worked many years at NSWC Crane as a Department of Defense civilian, retiring in 1995.

Etta is survived by daughter Angela Velvia Peyton (Shelby) of Hampton, VA, and sister Joyce Ann Baker (David).

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Marchelle Deanne Peyton, son Andrew Mark Peyton, brothers Edford Olaf Chambers, Jr., Jesse Earl “Bud” Chambers, Jack Dean Chambers, Franklin Leon Chambers, and sisters Rita Gayle Keller, and Marilyn Kay Oaldon.

Etta attended St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Bedford over the years. She loved to sing, had a beautiful voice, and enjoyed participating in the choir at church. She enjoyed watching and cheering on her children and their friends in sports and other activities throughout the years. She loved gardening and working on other home improvement projects. She loved her cats and adopted and took care of many over the years. She enjoyed nature, watching and feeding wild birds in her beautiful yard and gardens, traveling, music, and the arts. She enjoyed watching professional tennis, NBA, NFL, and Notre Dame football and basketball on TV. She loved watching Larry Bird and Reggie Miller play basketball, Joe Montana and Peyton Manning play football, and John McEnroe and Roger Federer play tennis over the years!

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 29th at 11:00 am in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held the evening before on Monday, November 28th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Judith “Judy” Ann Wood

Sept. 20, 1943 — Nov. 19, 2022

Judith “Judy” Ann Wood passed away November 19, 2022 at home in Massillon, Ohio with her husband and daughter by her side. Despite living with the pain and mobility issues of Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years, Judy did her very best to live her life to the fullest.

Judy was born September 20, 1943 in Mitchell, Indiana to Ralph and Kathryn (Burton) Nolan. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1961 and met her husband, Larry Wood, that same year, at the annual Persimmon Festival in Mitchell. They both were attending school in Indianapolis and one weekend, Judy needed a ride home. Larry happily obliged and as he puts it, “they have been riding together ever since”.

Larry and Judy married on April 4, 1964. They loved each other for over sixty-one years and were married for fifty-eight and a half years. They had three children together (Kenneth Edward, Jeffrey Dale, and Susan Leann) and spent their life living wherever Larry’s career with the railroad took them.

Judy earned her associates degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked for several years in Sacramento, California as the Preschool Director at Foothill Farms Baptist Church. But the jobs she loved the most were being a Mom, Mamaw, wife, and homemaker. Judy was a phenomenal cook and the family always said there was no better “restaurant” than Judy’s kitchen.

Judy’s life journey allowed her to live in and see many parts of the US. The family enjoyed camping and Judy especially loved the California Redwoods, the Pacific Ocean, and the mountains. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching basketball and baseball, and attending concerts and plays.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Larry; son, Jeffrey Wood and wife, Teresa; and daughter, Susan Wood and fiancé, Mike Olsen; three grandchildren, Nathan Wood, Alex Wood, Collin Tallinger; two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Wood and Grayson Tallinger; sister, Carolyn Sims and husband, John; great friends, German shepherd Kelly and cats, Cole and Chessie.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Wood; parents, Ralph and Kathryn Nolan; brother, Donald Nolan and wife, Hilda; and sister, Martha Tritle and husband, Bob.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Judy will be laid to rest next to her son, Kenneth, in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Larry Wayne Homes II, 42, of California, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at his home with his son.

Born on July 5, 1980, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Terri (Roll) Holmes and the late Larry Holmes.

Larry is survived by his son, Kaleb Gregory Holmes, of California; mother, Terri (Roll) Holmes of Bedford; two sisters, Valarie (Merrell) Parkes and her companion, Josh Lindley, of Bedford, and Chrisa (Merrell) Collier and her husband, Ben, of Kokomo; brother, Bradley Holmes of Bedford; nieces and nephews, Breena Parkes, Kristen Parkes, Cambria (husband Tyler) Hudelson, Austin Holmes, Katelyn Stewart, Autumn Holmes, and Gatlin Holmes; mother of Larry’s son, Shelly Futch; two uncles, Robert Holmes of Bedford, and Trevor Roll of Mitchell; aunt, Cheryl (husband Jeremy) Kyle of Bedford; and great aunt, Nancy Nolan of French Lick.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Larry; grandparents; and uncle.

Kerry A. Beasley

Kerry A. Beasley, 73, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at his residence.

Born on August 8, 1949, he was the son of Morrel and Ida Beasley. He married Mary Spaulding on December 23, 1999, and she survives.

Kerry was retired from General Motors and was a member of the UAW local 440. He attended Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Bedford. He was a graduate of Bedford High School and then attended Indiana University.

Diane Kinser, affectionally known as “Nan,” prayers were heard, and she passed peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Born July 23, 1943, in Burnside, KY, she was the daughter of Hayden and Opal (Pierce) Silvers. She married Karl Kinser on May 5, 1960.

Although Diane was brought up meagerly, she used her skills and intelligence to manage two successful World of Outlaws racing teams. Diane was known as the captain of the family, keeping everyone in line and on task. She loved her family, being at home, working in her yard, and animals. She was an animal whisperer, even taming the squirrels in the yard and feeding her fox. She will be missed deeply by many.

Survivors include her husband, Karl; daughter, Karla Fortner and husband Brad; son, Mark Kinser and companion Patty Hughes; grandchildren, Rachel Bunch and husband Dakoda, Cole Kinser, and Lois Kinser; great-grandchildren, Noah, Caroline and Rhylee Bunch; sister, Bobbie Duncan; several brother- in-laws, sister-in laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, Hayden, and Opal Silvers; brother, Bill Silvers; sister, Betty Super; brother-in-law Dale Duncan; and her beloved beagle Alice.

Ann Louise (Anderson) Holt, 78, of Judah, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Born March 28, 1944, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Fredrick and Amy (Metzler) Anderson. She married Frank Holt on November 30, 1962 and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2018.

Ann graduated from Mitchell High School with the class of 1962. She was a member of the Chuck Wagon Cowboy Church

Ann retired from RCA in March of 1997, was the owner of Holt’s Grocery for over 30 years before retiring in 2010, delivered flowers for Bailey Flowers and Gifts because she loved being around people, and worked most recently at Hoosier Door in Oolitic. She volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.

Surviving are her children, David Holt, of Judah, and Kim (Greg) Wright, of Bedford; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elaine Holt, of Bedford, Jay Holt, of Bedford, Linda (John) Davis, of Bedford, and Dixie (Edward) Moore, of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank; siblings, Woody Anderson; brothers-in-law, Anthony, Russell, and Robert Holt; and a grandson.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Valley Mission Church, 110 Hillcrest Way, Bedford, Indiana, with Ronnie Ritter officiating. Burial will be in the Judah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-6 P.M. Tuesday and 1 P.M. until the service hour Wednesday at the Valley Mission Church.

Robert Wayne Wells, 52, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital.

Born July 2, 1970, in Bedford, he was the son of Robert Eugene and Alene (Goins) Wells.

Wayne was a 1988 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. He retired from Dana Corporation as a machinist. Wayne was a member of the American Patriot Lodge No. 750 F.&A.M. in Oolitic. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his children, Andrew Wells of Williams, Tiffany Alexander Wells of Bedford, and Travis (Heather) Fuesler of Springville; grandchildren, Benjamin Fuesler and Loralynn Fuesler on the way; and mother, Alene Wells of Bedford;

His father; brother, Charles “Chuckie” Wells; and grandparents, Charlie Wells, Thelma Wells, Cora Goins, Brownlow Goins, and Clifford Goins preceded him in death.

Mr. Emery Dale Myers, age 57, of Commiskey, Indiana near Dupont entered this life on May 18, 1965 in Bedford, Indiana.

He was the loving son of Hubert Leon and Imogene Lucille Burris Myers. He was raised in Mitchell, Indiana and attended school there.

He worked for several years as an over the road truck driver. He had resided in the Dupont/Commiskey community since 2005. Mrod worked for five years as a second shift supervisor at M & M Warehouse. He then worked for Sam House Enterprises for 13 years as a back hoe operator until he retired due to his health. Mrod enjoyed socializing with his friends, drinking his spirits, playing poker with his friends and smoking his cigarettes.

Emery died on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 3:49 p.m. at the Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital Emergency Room in Madison, Indiana.

Emery will be missed by his loving father, Hubert Leon Myers of North Vernon, Indiana; his brothers, David Myers and his wife, Michelle of Dupont, Indiana, Roy Myers and his wife, Chris of Richfield, Utah, Dennis Myers and his wife, Tracy of Summerdale, Alabama, Doyle Myers and his wife, Susan of North Vernon, Indiana; his sister, Regina Myers of Bedford, Indiana; his caregivers and close friends, Sam and Rachel House of Commiskey, Indiana, Chris Bear and Family of Dupont, Indiana, Greg Abplanalp and family of Dupont, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Imogene Lucille Burris Myers and his infant brother, Vincent Dee Myers.

H. Stanley “Buster” Nicholson, 82, of Heltonville passed away on Friday November 11, 2022 at 3:40 pm at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lawrence County on March 22, 1940 to Ambrose Nicholson and Anna Mae (Boone) Nicholson. Buster married Mattie Ann Sowders on April 18, 1964 and she survives.

Buster attended Heltonville High School was an US Navy veteran, he was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local #16 in Evansville, he retired from General Motors in Bedford as an Electrician with over 30 years of service, he was a member of the Life Missions Ministry in Bedford.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Ann Nicholson of Heltonville, his children, Lisa (Bob) McDonald of Bloomington, Dee Bennett of Bedford and Michael (Angel) Nicholson of Bedford, seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, two brothers, John “Bucky” Nicholson, and Randy (Beth) Nicholson, seven sisters, Paula Bartlett, Luanne Robbins, Donna (Bill) Bilbrey, Becky (Jim) Hicks, Vickie (Butch) Stidam, Beth Wubben, and Gina (Dean) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Judy Todd and Micky Nicholson, three brothers, Kenneth “Butch” Nicholson, Stephen Nicholson, and David “Bud” Nicholson, two children, C. Randy Hillenburg and Rhonda Hillenburg Hamilton.

Chris S. Peyton, 51, of Heltonville, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022, at his residence.

Born August 2, 1971, in Bedford, he was the son of Jonathon Douglas and Cheryl M (Gardner) Peyton. He married Robin Brown (Moore) on April 3, 2022, and she survives.

He was a nurse for St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in the E.R. Department for 29 years. He was a great story-teller and enjoyed hunting, concerts, traveling, the St. Louis Cardinals and making salsa from his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Robin, of Heltonville; three children, Danielle Lagenour (Drew), of Jacksonville, FL, Kirstin Pemberton (Jay), of Bedford, and Cooper Sampson, of Heltonville; two granddaughters, Benny Pemberton and Charlie Pemberton; two grandsons, Emery Lagenour and Asher Lagenour; his mother, Cheryl, of Heltonville; an uncle, David Gardner (Roger Anne), of KY; two cousins, Curtis Gardner (Brenda) and Jason Gardner (Tammy).

James S. (Jim) Terrell

James S. (Jim) Terrell, 83, of Leesville, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by his loving family, after a 2 ½ year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born March 9, 1939, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Floyd and Edna M “Peggy” (Beasley) Terrell. He married Pam Harrell on June 9, 1971 and she survives.

He was a stone draftsman for Bybee Stone Co. and Indiana Limestone Co. He graduated from Williams High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Fairview Community Church.

Survivors include his wife, Pam, of Leesville; a son, Chris S. Terrell and wife, Ronetta, of Bedford; four grandchildren, Carrie, Samantha, Kirsten and Spencer Terrell; a brother, Jack Terrell, and wife, Brenda; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Terrell; two nephews, Jason and Kevin Terrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Christopher Terrell; two brothers, Jerry and Gene Terrell.

Frances “Fran” Greenan, 77, of Bedford, IN passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Born on January 21, 1945, she was the daughter of Constantine and Ruth (Miller) Kwiatkowski. She married John E. Greenan III on May 22, 1964, in Bethesda, Maryland, and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2018.

Fran was a Navy Veteran, a Navy wife for 33 years, a mother, and a grandmother. She enjoyed traveling and volunteering with Navy Relief Society where she volunteered for 20 years.

Surviving to cherish Fran’s memory are three children, Scott Greenan of Bedford, IN, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Tim) Johnson of Centreville, VA, and Patrick Greenan of Chestertown, MD; four grandchildren, Patrick Greenan of Long Beach, CA, Rebecca Greenan of Bloomington, IN, Aurora Greenan of Cambridge, MA, and Ryan Johnson of Centreville, VA; one brother, Chris Kwiatkowski; and one sister, Nora (Alfred) Brechtelsbauer.

Fran is preceded in death by her parents, Constantine and Ruth; husband, John; one sister, Ruth “Penny” Eckstein; and one brother, Tim Kwiatkowski.

Donald Clyde Terry, 90, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital.

Born May 8, 1932 in Lafayette, Indiana, he was the son of Clyde and Gladys (Atchison) Terry. He married Mary Alice King on September 5, 1955 and she preceded him in death in February 1996.

Donald was a U.S. Airforce veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a 1952 graduate of Huron High School and a member of the Huron Church of God. Donald worked as a tool and die maker for the Dana Corporation and retired in 1995. Donald was a member of the Gideons International and enjoyed volunteering as a conductor with the French Lick Scenic Railway and Indiana Rail Museum.

Surviving are his son, Tim (Gina) Terry of Mitchell; grandchildren, Josh (Melissa) Terry of Hardinsburg and Jamie (Chadd) Burnette of Seymour; and 7 great-grandchildren.

His parents and wife preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Brother Randy Corbin and Brother Brian Bolton officiating. Rev. Stephen Glen Phillips, 66, of Springville, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at his home.

Born May 21, 1956, he was the son of Glen and Martha Phillips.

A 1974 graduate of Oolitic High School, Steve excelled in construction trades. On January 11, 1975, Steve married Shannon Marie Jerrells, who survives. Steve was called to preach and became an ordained minister on August 5, 1977, at the Shady Springs Fellowship of churches. Steve pastored several churches over the years, and most recently, with Shannon, they served as the youth ministers at the Oolitic Pentecostal Church.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Glen, his son, Stephen Glen Phillips, II, his son-in-law, Jeffrey Ward, and his brothers-in-law, Walter and Laddie Jerrells.

Steve is survived by Shannon, his wife, of 47 years; his daughter, Jamie (Gary) Isaacs, of Springville; his daughter, Holly Ward, of Richlands, VA; his son, Seth (Sarah) Phillips, of Richlands, VA; eleven grandchildren, Cayden Isaacs, Tré (Olivia) Isaacs, Jadyn Isaacs, Ethan Isaacs, and Blaine Isaacs, all of Springville, Levi (Adrienne) Ward, of Dayton, OH, Gavin Ward, Whitney (John) Hackworth, Taylor Phillips, Madison Phillips, and Grant Phillips, all of Richlands, VA; great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Preslee, and Oakley Hackworth; his mother, Martha; his sisters, Vicki (Larry) Wagoner, Sherry (Rick) Adams, and Linda Ray; his mother-in-law, Jean (Sandy) Earhart; his sisters-in-law, Mary Jerrells and Paula (John) Cotner; and his brother-in-law, Joby Jerrells. Reverend Dessie (D.M.) Reynolds went to be with our lord on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022, at the age of 61.

He was born January 7, 1961, in a small quiet town in North Carolina. As an adult he served our Country, then moved to Bethlehem, Georgia where he was an active member of the Mormon Church until he moved to Bloomington, Indiana where he continued to practice his faith.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashely and son-in-law, Thomas Teague; and his two grandchildren, granddaughter Kelsey (age15) and grandson Joshua (age13).

He will be loved and missed by many, including his extended family and friends.

His celebration of life service will be held with his closest family and friends in Brevard, North Carolina where his daughter and grandchildren currently reside.

Janet Lea Shaff, 85, was called home surrounded by family, Monday, November 7, 2022, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany.

Born September 14, 1937, in Tunnelton, she was the daughter of Delbert and Arie Emily (Brown) Speer. She married Virgil L. Shaff on August 14, 1955 and he preceded her in death August 19, 2009.

Janet worked at Hooks Drugstore in Bedford and Jay-C Foods in Bedford and Mitchell. She was a member of the White River Baptist Church and past secretary of the Guthrie Township Farm Bureau Board. Janet loved to go to auctions with her husband and they used to own Shaff’s Auction Barn. She enjoyed photographs. Janet loved her children and grandchildren. Janet was the best mother that anyone could wish for.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Dale (Deborah A.) Shaff of Centerville and John Edward (Melanie) Shaff of Mitchell; grandchildren, William (Michelle) Shaff of Destin, Florida, Jeremy Shaff of Mitchell, Jackson (Lyric) Shaff of Bloomington, Taylor (Jeremy) Thompson of Terre Haute, Jayden Shaff of Mitchell, Kenneth Jase Shaff of Mitchell, and Samantha (Wesley) Cross of Hagersville; ten great grandchildren; and nephew, Jack (Carolyn) Cecil of Mitchell

Her parents; husband; granddaughter, Mariah Shaff; and siblings, Walter Garrison, William Garrison, Wallace Garrison, and Emily Cecil, preceded her in death.

Kenneth W. Stalcup, 83, of Bedford passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the IU Health Hospital in Bedford.

Born on February 27, 1939, he was the son of Nick and Rosa D. (Mullis) Stalcup. He married Brenda Clemons, and she preceded him in death.

Kenneth formerly worked for Carpenter and Otis Elevator.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Kenneth is one daughter, Tammy (Monte) Williams of Bedford; four grandchildren, Derek and Nick Stalcup, Stephanie Hurd, and Justice Deckard; one brother, Danny (Jayne) Stalcup of Ellettsville; and one sister, Imogene (Owen) Cosby of California.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David; and two sons, Dale Deckard and Mike Stalcup.

Connie Sue Griffith

Connie Sue Griffith, 68, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at IU Health Bedford.

Born September 16, 1954, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Richard and Sue (Hall) Griffith.

Connie was a register nurse at St. Vincent Dunn Memorial Hospital for many years. She was also a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include her cousins, Diana Daugherty, Sondra Crane, and Bill Maxwell.

Her parents; siblings, Terry Griffith and Stephen Griffith preceded her in death.

Her family would like to thank her Dunn ICU family, whom she considered as sisters, especially Teresa Folk and Rita Dunn. Her cousins greatly appreciated their assistance.

Edna “Irene” Piper—much loved stepmother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend—died on October 31, 2022 in Cottleville, Missouri where she moved to be near her stepson.

Born on August 8, 1928 in Oolitic, Indiana, Irene was the only daughter of Bertie Alice (Owen) and Harvey Glen Jeffries.

After graduating from Oolitic High School in 1946, she went to work at RCA. The majority of Irene’s career, however, was spent at Naval Surface Warfare Center at Crane. Irene was as an accounting clerk for 27 years at Crane before her retirement.

Irene married John Ellsworth Piper in Oolitic, Indiana on December 10, 1966. They enjoyed camping, attending musical performances, and traveling.

Irene was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford, where she belonged to the women’s ministry group, choir, and taught Sunday school.

Irene is survived by her stepsons Robert (Mary) Piper of Ballwin, Missouri and James Piper of Franklin, Indiana; granddaughters Kathryn Piper and Samantha (Ian Miller) Piper; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her parents, husband, infant daughter Donna Beth Ritchey, and her brothers: Harvey Price, Willard Hershel, and Clifford Loren, preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Lee Brown officiating. Born November 1, 1960 in the State of Washington, he was the son of Lyle Keith Dibble and Janet K. (Montieth) Staggs. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Douglas Staggs.

Phyllis C. Prince, 87, of Springville, died Sunday morning at the White River Lodge in Bedford with her children by her side.

Born September 22, 1935, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Sylvester and Mabel Sowders. Phyllis was retired from P.T.S Electronics. She loved dirt track racing. She loved to go to the casino with her sister and spending time with her family and friends.

She leaves behind two sons, Rick Prince and wife Lori, of Bloomington, and Kenny Prince and wife Polly, of Heltonville; two daughters, Dana Prince and husband Tim, and Lisa Connolly and husband Tim, all of Heltonville; grandchildren, Kellilynni Prince-Lentz and her husband Scott, Stacey Martinez, Brandi Prince Chase and husband Ryan, Jason Prince, Heath Prince and wife Ashley, Heather Joseph and husband Scott, Heidi Prince Wagner and husband Ed, Justin Chambers and wife Karly; great-grandchildren, Brecken, Matthew, Kylee, Col, Luke, Cory, Lillianna, Jaunito, Olivia, Evan, Garrett, Dane, Judson, Daxson, Skyler; great-grandchildren, Bex and Colt; two sisters, Delores Axsom, and Gloria Sue Harper; and her beloved dog, Ace.

Jewel D. Taylor, 85, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022, at her residence.

Born April 27, 1937, in Jonesville, Virginia, she was the daughter of Grady and Laura (Buttery) Ramsey. She married Eli Taylor, Jr. on September 4, 1976, and he preceded her in death on August 6, 2006.

Jewel retired after 15 years as a correctional officer with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of Beach Grove Baptist Church in Virginia and attended the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. Jewel was a member of the Mitchell Senior Citizens, where she had served as an officer.

Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Reynolds Rightsell of Mitchell and Debbie (Lyle) Pottoroff of Princeton; step daughters, Sharon Winston of Bloomington and Debbie (Joe) Wilson of Bedford; step son, Ben (Tina) Taylor of Bedford; grandchildren, Shannon (Amy) Doan of Paoli, Tina (Dan) Andis of Princeton, and Lisa (Mike) Glover of Bone Gap, Illinois; Several great grandchildren; two great great granddaughters; and brother-in-law, Don Eads of Bedford.

Clifton E. Hupp

Clifton E. Hupp, 77, of Bedford, died at 3:43 p.m. at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.

Born December 16, 1944, in Bloomington, he was the son of Thomas and Helen (Ray) Hupp. He married Terry Hold-Price on April 22, 1995, and she survives.

Clifton worked in the trucking industry for 35 years as a long-haul truck driver for various companies, and at times was self-employed as an owner-operator of his own semis. He loved golfing and riding his Goldwing motorcycle. Clifton served his country by enlisting with the U.S. Air Force and he fought for our country during the Vietnam War. Clifton was a husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, step-grandfather, and a brother. As a blended family, he took each role to heart. He was truly blessed.

Survivors include his wife, Terry, of Bedford; two sons, Darren Hupp, of Bedford and Timothy Hupp (Chasity Greene), of Columbus; two stepchildren, Summer Price (Brad Hatton), of Bedford and Paul Price and wife Katie, of Bedford; three grandchildren, Cloee, Connor, and Thomas Hupp; step-grandchildren, Emma Price, and Drew Kinder; sister, Vickie Kinser, of Heltonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Laurina Joanne “Tub” Sanders, 66, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany.

Born February 25, 1956, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Lawrence Ellis Holt Sr. and Eloise Joanne (Pitman) Holt-Eads. Laurina married Arthur Leroy “Buddy” Sanders April 26, 1975 and he preceded her in death February 20, 1999.

Laurina worked as a manager for many years at the Mitchell McDonald’s and was very proud of her career. She was a big fan of Elvis and loved going to yard sales. She was the best mother anyone could ever ask for. Laurina was very caring and giving.

Surviving are her children, Jessica Joanne (Jarrett) Myler of French Lick and Shawn Leroy Sanders of Orleans; grandchildren, Hope Victoria Harkness, Raistlin Michelle Bauer, Adrian Marie Abel, Jake Arthur Myler, and Jonathan Sanders; siblings, Tammy (Steven) Holloway of Tennessee, Lawrence (Linda) Holt, Jr. of Bedford, and Karlie (Heather) Holt of Orleans; special friends, Melissa Sparks of Mitchell and Sonny Morgan of Salem; and three great-grandchildren.

Donna Gayle (Mitchell) Pace, long-time resident of Bedford, peacefully passed away at 7:57 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Westview Nursing and Rehab following years of having Parkinson’s disease.

Born March 13, 1937, in Bedford, Indiana, she was the daughter of Charlie E. and L. Bernie (Meadows) Mitchell. She married Phillip (Dean) Pace on August 18, 1956, in Bedford, while Dean was on Naval leave, and he preceded her in death on October 2, 1992.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School in 1955. In her early years she was a cash register clerk, bakery manager, meat cutter and attendant at IGA grocery store. She later was a factory worker for Visteon before retiring. She was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She was an avid bowler and euchre player in their small couple’s club. She loved watching her grandkids playing sports, vacationing in Florida with family, her sisters, and friends. She donated time to the Humane Society, selling trash bags, she was known as the trash bag lady. She attended First Baptist Church and volunteered often for church activities.

Survivors include one son, Dan S. Pace and wife Rebecca E., of Bedford; one daughter, Deena G. Spencer and husband Terry, of Bedford; two granddaughters, Jodi L. Godsey and husband Brandon, April M. Simpson and husband Shannon; five grandsons, Kyle Chenault, Jeff D. Pace and wife Taylor, Kevin Chenault, Jordan Spencer, and Brandon Spencer; great-grandchildren, Clayton Allen, Alexander Pace, Lyla Pace, Brenton Chenault, Carl Chenault, Parker Spencer, Shelby Spencer, Lilly Chenault, Dusty Chenault; three sisters, Carol Goff, Sandy Wheeler, Dianne McKay and husband Glenn; nephews, Ralph Goff Jr., Chuck Goff, Chuck Hayse, Larry May, Mike Childers, Chris Hardy, and Brian Hardy.

Born January 27, 1940, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Harrison and Florence (Coulter) Ritter. He married Nancy Lane Spangler on January 25, 1959, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Shawswick High School and owner of Ritter Tool & Die Corporation. He was a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge and Sons of the American Legion.

Marilyn Ann Allen Olson

Marilyn Ann Allen Olson, 92, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Stonebridge Health Campus.

She was born February 25, 1930, in Bedford, Indiana to Mabel (Sipes) and Harry Allen. She married Norman R. Olson Jr. on November 13, 1948, and they shared 48 years together.

Marilyn was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was active in several roles as Deacon, Elder, and the Lydia and Christian Women’s Fellowship Circles. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star, served many hours as a Pink Lady Volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital and served as President of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a charter member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Social Sorority. Marilyn was employed by the city of Bedford in the Water Works Department and completed her career in a clerical capacity at Olson & Company P.C., CPA Firm.

Survivors include a son, Ric Olson (Treva), of Bedford; a son-in-law, William Murray, of FL; grandchildren, Stephanie (Matthew) Price, of Indianapolis, Michelle Lewis, of Ohio, Matthew (Alicia) Parker, and Miles (Blaine) Parker; great-grandchildren, Connor Price, of Peru, Logan Price, of FL, Kennedy Draper, of Ohio, Harrison Parker, of Bedford, Vivienne Parker, of Bedford and Sophie Parker, of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Walter Fisher, her husband, Norman Olson, Jr. her twin brother, Jack L. Allen; her brother, Robert E. Allen; her sister, Roberta Lenz; and her daughter, Susan Olson Murray.

She was a nurse’s aide at Garden Villa and a member of the Englewood Baptist Church.

Dora Pearl Bradley

Dora Pearl Bradley, 97, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at her residence.

Born August 20, 1925, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of James Cleveland and Edith L. (Carroll) Sanders. Dora married Arthur Wayne Warren in 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1968. She married Dan Bradley in 1987 and he preceded her in death December 2005.

Dora was a beloved mother and grandmother, who was known as “Granny” by many. She worked at Green Thumb Older Worker’s Program in Bedford, Mitchell, and Orleans. Dora loved quilting, sewing, crafting, and puzzles. She loved cruising and loved log cabins.

Surviving are her children, Delma June Smith of Paoli, Mary Edith Miller of Blacksburg, Virginia, William Lee Warren of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, Charles Cleveland Warren of Paoli, and Homer Wayne Warren of Indianapolis; twelve grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Her husbands; parents; and siblings, Herman Estell Sanders and Catherine Marie Porter preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, at Haverly Funeral Chapel with Brother Jimmy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Jason was a U.S. Army veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He graduated from Paoli High School in 2009 and was a student at Vincennes University. He was member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8302 in Paoli. He also enjoyed listening to music and watching movies.

Eva Florence Russell, 92, passed away on October 21, 2022 at UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento, CA.

She was born in Paoli, IN to Diora (Willyard) Newlin and Paul Newlin on February 24, 1930.

Eva was a graduate of Paoli High School in 1948. She married Floyd L. Cornwell on June 5, 1948. He precedes her in death. On June 27, 1983 she married Fay Russell who also precedes her in death.

Eva was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mitchell for more than 60 years where she left behind many friends when she moved to Sacramento to be closer to her family in 2017.

She was a competitive person who enjoyed playing games and doing puzzles. She enjoyed traveling and visiting family. As a hobby she enjoyed making quilted items as presents for her loved ones. She loved walks in the woods and the abundant wildlife that frequently visited in the yard of their farm.

Her working career started as a summer waitress at Spring Mill Inn at the age of 14. For many years she worked in Mitchell as a receptionist for Dr. Clair McKinney at Mitchell Optical Co. The highlight of her career was serving the City of Mitchell as Clerk Treasurer for several terms. She retired from bookkeeper at REMC in Orleans in 1995.

Surviving are her son, James (Kathy) Cornwell of Sacramento, CA; daughter-in-law, Anita Cornwell of Avon, IN; grandchildren, Paul (Lori) Cornwell of Fishers, IN, Jamie Harris of Jeffersonville, IN, Denise (Bryan) Knight of Louisville, KY, Jeffrey (Laura) Cornwell of Louisville, KY, Matthew (Melissa) Cornwell of Indianapolis, IN, Mark Cornwell of Avon, IN, Debra (Steve) Crews of Plumas Lake, CA, Andrew Cornwell of Sacramento, CA, and Michael Cornwell of Sacramento, CA; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and stepchildren, Gary Russell of Orleans, IN, Linda Atchison and Jim Russell of Mitchell, IN.

Her husbands; parents; sons, Greg Cornwell and John Cornwell; grandson, Adam Cornwell; sister, Leota Kirk; and brother, Noel Newlin preceded her in death.

Cremation has been chosen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 5 in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Reggie Clark officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Sandra L. Bridwell

Sandra L. Bridwell, 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 7:04 AM at the home of her granddaughter, Brooke Carroll, in Bedford.

Sandra was born October 31, 1940 to Clyde Austin and Thelma “Madeline” (Wheeler) Shirley. She had a sister, Nancy L. Shirley, who preceded her in death on December 18, 2013.

Sandra was raised in Buddha and attended the “old Buddha school” for elementary school and then went on to graduate from Tunnelton High School in 1958.

After graduating from high school, she married Roy Key and they were married for twenty years. During their marriage Roy and Sandra had two children, Christie A. Guthrie Jenkins and Mark E. Key. Roy and Sandra purchased the old Buddha school, remodeled it and turned it into their home and raised their children there. Sandra so loved having friends, family and visitors come and visit and tour the “old school”

She married Michael J. Bridwell on August 14, 1982, and he preceded her in death on October 25, 2005.

Sandra was a beautician in the beginning of her career and had worked for Grace Survy and then had a shop at her home and at various nursing homes from time to time. After she quit working as a beautician, she was employed at the Bedford Regional Medical Center/Edgewood Clinic as a switchboard operator, in various physician’s offices and then many years in the insurance office. She left the Medical Center to stay home and babysit her beloved granddaughter, Brooke. She later went to work at Kinder Kollege. She ultimately retired from North Lawrence Community Schools having served as a secretary in the Joint Services Office. After she retired from Joint Services, she enjoyed spending her time decorating her home and working in her flowers and antiquing. She cherished her time with family and enjoyed her Florida and Gatlinburg trips with Christie and Brooke, cooking and little “road trips” to Orange County Amish country.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Christie, granddaughter, Brooke Carroll and her husband, Chad and great-grandchildren, twins, Eric Michael Carroll and Alexis Sue Carroll, and Noah Edward Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Madeline in 1982 and 1979 respectively, her sister, Nancy L. Shirley in 2013; husband, Michael J. Bridwell in 2005; her son, Mark E. Key in 2017, and her son-in-law, George Jenkins in 2022. Cremation was chosen and per her wishes there will be no visitation nor service.

Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.

Ollie Thomas Hughes

Ollie Thomas Hughes, 68, of Bedford, IN passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022.

Born on March 2, 1954, he was the son of George Sr. and Lavada (McCroy) Hughes. He married Betty JoeAnn Tungate and she preceded him in death on January 17, 1998.

Ollie worked for the City of Bedford where he retired. He attended Tunnelton High School and graduated in 1972. He was also a member of Easyville Pentecostal Church in Freetown.

Surviving to cherish the memory of Ollie is one step daughter, LaDana (Brent McVicker) Stidam of Hardinsburg; one step son, Charles (Patricia) Stidam III of North Vernon; five grandchildren, Matthew (Abby) Jarvis of Bedford, Luke (Leah) Jarvis of Bedford, Jonathan (Lacy) Jarvis of Bedford, Tiffany (Bob) Fanning of Ohio, Michael Stidam of Madison, and Laura Stidam of Mitchell; his brother, Robert “Lightning” (Jane) Hughes of Bedford; and great-grandchildren Brayden, Xander, Lily, Karey, Jake, Isaiah, Bella, Paisley, Tyson, Anisty, Mazie, and Jolee.

Preceding Ollie in death are his parents; wife; and siblings, Genevieve Flinn, Juanita Sullivan, Nancy Hughes at birth, George Jr., Samuel Taylor Hughes, Charlotte Miller, Carol Sue Chang, and Stanley Alva Hughes.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor Robert Hughes, Clarence Brown, and Sister Jean Pogue officiating. Burial will follow at the Leesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am to the service hour on Friday.

Wanda June Gerkin

Wanda June Gerkin, 89, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 at Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee.

Born September 7, 1933 in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Douglas and Bernice (Green) Clouse. She married William Gerkin October 13, 1950 and he preceded her in death March 5, 2006.

Wanda was a homemaker and a member of Church On the Way in Washington, Indiana.

Surviving are her daughters, Bilanda Jean Gerkin of Washington and Sherry Ann (Andrew) Theine of Washington; grandchildren, Sarah Gerkin, Samantha Gerkin, Hannah Dailey, and Daniel Theine; great-grandchildren, Greyson Hsu, Christopher Smith, Ashton Dailey, Rachel Dailey, and Ella Dailey; sibling, Terry Clouse; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Gerkin.

Her parents; husband; son, William Scott Gerkin; grandson, Seth Gerkin; and sister, Joyce Tanksley preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, at Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Rex L. Williams

Rex L. Williams, 72, passed away peacefully in his home on 30 October 2022 after an extended illness.

Rex was born the son of Noble L. Williams & Mary Wanda (Braxton) Williams on February 4, 1950 in Mitchell, Indiana. On March 21, 1970 Rex married the love of his life Rhea Annette Magner. They were married 50 years and she preceded him in death in 2020.

A Life Well Lived fully describes Rex. A resident of the Orleans area his entire life, he devoted his life to serving his family, his friends and his country. Serving his country as a U.S. Army medic during the Vietnam War, as a uniformed and undercover deputy sheriff, and later as an accomplished Department of the Navy civil servant, Rex achieved results and traveled where others only dream of going.

As a Level III Acquisition Professional with unlimited procurement authority, he began work in 1982 at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division. At Crane, he managed the Policies and Procedures branch to ensure effective compliance with all applicable acquisition rules and regulations. After a short assignment at Headquarters-Naval Supply Systems Command in Washington, D.C. – he transferred in 2001 to the Deputy under Secretary of the Navy’s office and worked directly for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy: Mr. Charles P. Nemfakos.

During Rex’s time there, he helped develop policies for use by Navy and Marine Corps strategic sourcing/procurement operations. Returning to Crane Division in 2003, Rex served the dual role of Contracting Officer’s Representative for certification of all procurement operations and as the State and Community Outreach Director.

He attended Mayor’s Roundtable meetings on a monthly basis throughout Southern Indiana, served as Point of Contact for the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns in directing requests for assistance to the appropriate entity at Crane, attended meetings with 9 County LEDO’s and attended their respective Local Economic Development Organization meetings on a monthly basis, worked on a personal basis and served as the liaison between the Lt. Governor’s staff, the Governor’s staff, and the staff of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation and Crane Division.

Rex also worked with the State of Indiana Department of Education to obtain support and promote programs such as STEM and Project Lead the Way by promoting partnerships with NSWC Crane while also engaging area School Administrators to increase their focus on training requirements for their students to prepare them for higher education to ultimately be employed by NSWC.

Rex finally worked with the Indiana Economic Development Corp. and the newly forming Radius Indiana. Retiring in 2014, Rex devoted his time to family and friends.

Rex was an avid member of Orleans Baptist Church, Orleans Christian Church, and Posey Chapel Church.

Rex is survived by Paige A. Williams, daughter, and Ryan N. Williams, son. Sisters, Kathy Bentley, Nan Williams, and Analee Hanover. Also surviving Rex, was several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Wanda Williams, his Paternal Grandparents Omer and Dessie Williams, Maternal Grandparents Elbert and Mary Mariah Braxton. One brother Randall G. Wood, one sister Penny G. Beuchler, one niece Heidi P. Hanover.

Viewing will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 4th 2022 at the Ochs Tetrick Funeral Home with Pastor Wilbur Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Orleans.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Williams, Kelly Siffin, Pat Lindley, Steve Petit, Tye Williams, Mike Hopper. Honorary Pallbearer will be Bryar Hanover.

Special thanks to doting friends, and Kindred Hospice nurses, employees, and caretakers Analee and Mackenzie Hanover and family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Orleans High School Baseball Program.
