Patricia A. Patton, 85, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:40 pm on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Golden Living Center in Bloomington.
Born February 12, 1936 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Clarence and Frances (Mason) Bradford. She married Donald O. Patton and he survives. She retired from RCA in Bloomington.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Patton and wife, Luetta, and Bradford Scott Patton; three grandchildren, Justin, Dustin (Jodee), and Michael; four great grandchildren, Brayden, Jeremy, Riley, and Ethan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, George Sherman Patton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1st at Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca with Donnie Sanders officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1st at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Connie L. Bartlett, 67, of Springville, passed away at 11:25 pm on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at her residence.
Born March 30, 1954 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Robert Mullis and Blanche (Mathis) McCauley. She had worked at RCA in Bloomington, in housekeeping for the I.U. Auditorium and had ran a carpet cleaning business. She was a member of the Crossroads Community Christian Church and enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, and fishponds.
Survivors include three children, Ronald Bartlett (Amanda), of Ellettsville, Michael Bartlett (Kim), of Unionville, and Cassidy Webb, of Springville; three grandchildren, Bailey Bartlett, of Michigan, Chloe Wilbur, and Cayden Wilbur, both of Springville; a brother, Robert Mullis (Nancy), of Bloomington; three sisters, Joyce Waggoner, of Bloomington, CrisAnn Perry, of Unionville, and Darlene East (Tom) of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Danny Mullis, Paul Mullis, and Greg Mullis; a sister, Cathy Sue Mullis.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

Joe Speer

Joe Speer, 68, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021, at his residence.
Joe was born April 6, 1953, in Logansport, IN, to Edward Speer and Della Lorraine (Levi) Hoopingarner-Speer. He married Karen S. Lake in 1974 and they were married for 47 years.
Joe attended Bedford High School and was a mill worker, retiring from Indiana Limestone after 30 years, and a former employee of Essex. He loved walking and going to dirt track races and was at the Brownstown Speedway every Saturday for 47 years. He loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving to cherish Joe’s memory are his wife, Karen; children, Jennifer (Jody) East, Joey Speer, Kayla (Arron) Barger, all of Bedford and Rebecca Chase of Bloomington; grandchildren, Alyssa (Tyler) Davis, Makenzie (Tyler) Warner, Hannah Chase, Jaden and Hailee East, Parker, Jackson and Paisley Speer and Bentley and Macy Barger, all of Bedford; three great-grandchildren, Dayson, Daxton and Dawson Davis and two more on the way; and siblings, Jim Hoopingarner of Indianapolis and Sharon (Darlene) Francis of Bedford.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents; and siblings, Della Hilderbrand, Bob Hoopingarner, Charles Hoopingarner and Carolyn Speer, in infancy.
Funeral services for Joe will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor T.J. Skiles officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service, also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.

Chester Ray Moore age 73 of Bedford, left for his heavenly home on Friday May 21, 2021.
He was born on October 13, 1947 to William and Myrtle Mae (Blythe) Moore. He married Tamera Pollock on November 26, 1983 and she survives along with their son Glen William and step-daughter, Carrie Magness of Avon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Beatrice Stevens and husband Gary Stevens, half-siblings, Wayne, Wilmer and Alberta Cain.
He is survived by his wife, son, step-daughter, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday May 28, 2021 at 4:00 Pm at the Momentum Community Church at 1403 R Street in Bedford. Family and friends are invited starting at 3:00 Pm at the church. Finger food will be served following the services.

Evelyn L. Decker, 17 months, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Indianapolis. She was born November 29, 2019 in Jasper to Justin and Debra (Sharr) Decker.
Surviving to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her parents; maternal grandparents, Donald and Rita Sharr; paternal grandparents, Michael Decker and Katherine Perkins; three aunts, Jessica (Kenny) Sanders, Alisha (Grant) Burcham and Donna (Byron) Zwilling; and several cousins.

Paul Daniel Parker, 74, of Bedford, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at his home with his family present.
Born July 23, 1946 in Charlestown, IN, he was the son of Paul S. and Aleta Parker. He married Darlene Lewis on October 3, 1964 and she survives.
Dan was a graduate of the Oolitic High School with the class of 1964. He retired from General Motors in Bedford in 2004. He was a Millwright/Welder for 38 years. He served as past president of the U.A.W. Local #440. Dan was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many good years fishing on Melbourne Beach, FL.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Darlene, of Bedford; their children, Allen (Molli) Parker, of Indianapolis, Jo Ellen (Sam) Holland, of Bedford, Brett (Lindsey) Parker, of Bedford; siblings, Teresa (Wayne) Manion, of Bedford, Patti Fortner, of Greenfield, and Polly (Marty) Wilson, of Springville; grandchildren, Alexandra Jo, Paul Hayden, Sammy Dale, Paul Jackson, Kolton Brock, Jay Robert, Kasen Isaiah, Mallory Frances, Brycelyn, Karingtyn, and Branson; great grandchildren, Hunter, Russell, and Ruby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Robert Lewis, and his Florida fishing buddy, brother-in-law, Denny Fortner.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 29th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Beech Grove Cemetery with Pastor Reed Beard officiating.

William Robert Brummett

William Robert Brummett (AKA: Billy Bob, Mule Skinner) 62, of Bloomfield passed away Sunday May 23, 2021 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
William was born on July 7, 1958 the son of Frank and LaVer Brummett. He was a truck driver for Young Trucking for twenty years, a member of the Solsberry Masonic Lodge for forty years, taking his entered apprentice on July 13, 1981 and his master mason degree on April 3, 1982. Bill was a retired volunteer fireman for Center Township fire department for many years.
Bill loved his wife, grandchildren, family and friends. He enjoyed eating breakfast with his buddies, playing cards, riding motorcycles with his wife and friends, Bill never met a stranger and was loved by so many.
Bill was preceded in death by a step-son Cory Boswell, his parents, sister’s Linda Kidd, Amy Brummett, brother Roger Brummett, brother-in-law’s, Donald McCloud and Melvin Kidd.
Bill is survived by his wife Jessica Brummett, step-son, Justin (Danyon) Talbott, his grandchildren, Carly Boswell, Caden Boswell, Julius Talbott, Henry Talbott, sister-in-law Rebecca Fields, godson Jason Brooks, Sister Diana McCloud, niece’s Kayla Fields, Debbie (Fred) Wright, Tonya (Roy) Jones, nephews, Dwane McCloud, Danny (Sherry) McCloud and many great nieces and great nephews and many cousins.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Friday and from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A Masonic service will be held at 7 P.M. on Friday evening.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at Jenkins funeral Home with Pastor Pat Arthur officiating. Burial will follow at Owensburg Cemetery.

Lettie Marie Coffman, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at her home.
Born October 17, 1935, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Jesse and Mary Frances (Cole) Lane. She married Walter Coffman August 8, 1950.
Lettie and her husband, Walter, owned the Daily Scoop for many years. She was a member of the 39th Street Christian Church and Order of Eastern Star No. 503. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Her husband was her greatest joy.
Surviving are her husband, Walter Coffman of Bedford; children, Walter Eugene (Debbie) Coffman of Bedford, Ernie (Wilma) Coffman of Bedford, Lisa (Mary) Coffman of New Albany; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.
Her parents; daughter, Pamela Marie Coffman; and siblings, Jesse Lane, Herschel Lane, Roy Lane, Elwood Lane, Betty Kautz, and Nancy Burlington, preceded her in death.

Melody K. Pemberton, 60, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, following a motorcycle accident.
Melody was born July 21, 1960 in Terre Haute to Virgil and Anita Alkire. She married Randy Pemberton on Feb. 13, 1988 and he survives.
Melody was a CNA and Home Health Care Worker. She had attended River’s Edge Church and loved riding motorcycles with her husband and friends. She spent a lot of time with her best friend, Sandy Elliott, and Robert Prow.
Surviving to cherish Melody’s memory are her husband, Randy; four children, Shelly Dan, Michelle Grace, Wendy Krause and Michael Blunk; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; one brother, Steve Alkire; and three sisters, Tina, Diane and Tammy.
Preceding Melody in death were her parents; and one brother, Jeff.
Cremation was chosen and there will be no services.

Laura Lenora Edwards Stultz, 89, of Bedford, passed away at 11:11 am on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 22, 1931 in Daviess Co., she was the daughter of William H. and Esther (Harker) Edwards. She married Donald K. Stultz on August 30, 1957 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2015.
She began her career at Washington National Bank and transferred to Bedford National Bank in 1957 and continued to 1965. She co-owned the Sap’s Dounut Route with her husband and then went back to work at Bedford National Bank in 1979. She spent several years at the Oolitic branch as well as the Bedford branch and retired in 1997.
Lenora loved to cook, tell stories, visit people, and play games. She enjoyed I.U. basketball and traveling (especially to the Smokies). Her grandsons were her pride and joy.
Survivors include her daughter, Laura Dawn Pardue, of Bedford; two grandsons, Logan K. (Chloe) and Kenton J. Pardue; a great grandson, Ryker (due in August); a sister-in-law, Naomi Edwards, of Shoals; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Friedman (Agnes) Edwards, Robert (Mildred) Edwards, Russell Edwards, and Leland (Betty) Edwards; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Velma Stultz, a sister-in-law, Patricia Spoonmore; a brother-in-law, David Stultz.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Ed Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Samuel Oren Patton, age 88, of Bloomington passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Owen Valley Health Campus in Spencer.
Born April 16, 1933 in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Enoch and Gertie (New) Patton.
Samuel was a U.S Army Korean War veteran and worked as a carpenter. He was of the Pentecostal faith, enjoyed being a minister, visiting with the residents at the Hospitality House and in the hospital, helping others worship God, playing the harmonica and doing a multitude of carpentry projects.
Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Ellouise (Robertson) Patton, of Bloomington; four children, Debbie (Tim) Daggy, of Bloomington, Cindy Sherfield, of Bloomington, Billy (Shauna) Patton, of Arizona and Tony Patton, of Bloomington, one grandson, Matt (Savannah) Sherfield, one great-grandson, Max Sherfield and five brothers; Donald Patton, Clifford Patton, George Patton, Ronald Patton and Keith Patton.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Jennifer J. Patton and Jordan A. Sherfield, three sisters and two brothers.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Greene County Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow the services.

Hugh Rockford Jean, 97, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born November 3, 1923, at Spring Mill, he was the son of Charles and Carrie (Goldsmith) Jean. He married Lillian L. Ray June 4, 1949, and she preceded him in death January 5, 1990.
He retired from General Motors and attended Dive Christian Church. Hugh was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his children, Tim (Debra) Jean of Mitchell, Wanda (Bob) Ritchison of Mitchell, 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
His parents; wife, and siblings, Mary Pauline Saylor, Thelma M. Reynolds, Grace Lorena Stephens, Harold Charles Jean, Edgar Edmund Jean, William Harry Jean, and Roscoe Leland Jean, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Ruby Mae Swartz, 80 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 in her residence.
She was born in Fayetteville, IN on August 13, 1940 to Opal Lake and Lucille Parker Lake.
Ruby was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was known for raising and breeding champion chihuahuas, but caring for her family was her greatest joy.
Ruby is survived by her husband Kenneth Swartz, and three children; Tim Swartz (Carol) Valerie Still (Randy), and Danielle “Nikki” Pomeroy (Eric). Also surviving are her brothers and sisters; Joyce Baker, Evelyn Morgan, Pam Isom, Jerry Lake, Karen Speer, Theresa McGuire, Kathy Terry, and Paula Briner, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Brian Swartz, as well as two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Ric May officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the funeral home.

Karmen Kay Caruso, 80, of Mitchell, passed away at 11:00 PM on May 17, 2021 at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home.
She was born December 4, 1940 in Urbana, Indiana, the daughter of Earl and Anna Dean (Yager) Karns.
She was a member of Mitchell Wesleyan Church. She was president of Women’s Business Association. Karmen was very active with L.I.F.E. and served as past president.
She is survived by two sons, Scott Caruso of Mitchell and Randell Caruso of Mitchell; six grandchildren, Kurt, Christina, Nick, Savannah, Grayson and Scott Michael; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Lee Biehl and one brother Lowell Dean Karns.
Preceded in death by one son, Kelly Caruso; one granddaughter, Brittnay Caruso-Hubbard; one brother Loyle Karns and three sisters, Marion Karns, Anita Merrell and Earleen Ulrey.
The funeral will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Steve Jones officiating.

Michael A. Collins, 71, of Orleans, passed away at 12:52 AM on May 19, 2021 at Springs Valley Meadows.
He was born July 19, 1949 in Orange County, the son of Herbert Dale and Elsie (Briner) Collins.
He retired from the Indiana State Police Post in Jasper. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 76 in French Lick. Michael graduated from Springs Valley High School, class of 1967.
He is survived by his son, Derek Collins of French Lick; companion of twenty-four years, Beth Hess of Orleans; one grandson, Eli Collins of French Lick; two step granddaughters, Rebekkah and Eloise; one brother, Ronnie Collins of Brownsburg; one sister, Kathy Morgan of Paoli; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter-in-law, Kelly Collins.
The memorial service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home with Terry Pinnick officiating. Burial will be at Ames Chapel Cemetery.

James Weinert, 79, of Bedford, died at his residence Saturday morning, May 22nd.
Born September 14, 1941 in Dayton, OH, he was the son of Paul Weinert and Helen (Pontious) Weinert. He married Corrinne Thorpe on December 25, 1963 and she survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an Electronics Technician for PTS where he retired.
Survivors include his wife Corrinne, of Bedford; daughter Caroline Phillips and husband Lucas, of Carey, OH; two grandchildren, Isabel and Morgan Phillips, both of Carey, OH; one sister, Naomi Weinert and wife Cindy Turvy, of Columbus, OH; three brothers, Howard Weinert and wife Martha, of Huber Heights, OH, Donald Weinert and wife Barbara, of Akron, OH, and William “Bill” Weinert and wife Karen, of Dayton, OH; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents and one sister, Lois Windon.

Charles “Charlie” Pruitt

Charles “Charlie” Pruitt, 75, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at his residence.
Born on May 7, 1946, he was the son of Charles William Pruitt and Kathleen (Deckard) Pruitt. He married Theresa Bassinger on July 13, 1967 and she preceded him in death on December 24, 2005.
Charlie retired from G.E., was the owner of Charlies Fireworks, and former owner of Bedford Video. He was of the Christian faith and was known as Bedford’s “King of Fireworks”. He attended Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. Charlie and his sister Jane always had a special bond.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Charlie are his children, Rob (Sonja Barnett) Pruitt and Donna (Kenny) Clark; five grandchildren, Brittany Walker, Logan Pruitt, Josh, Levi and Kayla Clark; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Jane (Bennie) Hackney and Zelda “Kay” Milam; his significant other, Delores “Dee” Phillips; along with several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Theresa; and a sister, Donna Lee Pruitt.

Jacob D. “Jake” Cooper age 29 of Bedford passed away on May 19, 2021 at his residence in Bedford.
He was born at Dunn Hospital in Bedford on November 26, 1991 to Scott J. Cooper and Gina (Logsdon) Morris. Jake was a welder and carpenter for Merriman Steel in Tunnelton, he was a 2010 graduate of Orleans High School.
Survivors include his mother, Gina Morris and husband David of Bedford; father, Scott J. Cooper and wife Tamala of Bedford; brother, Nick Cooper and wife Jennifer of Bedford; step-brothers, Jonathon Morris of Brownstown, Keaton Cooper of Bedford, Evan Cooper of Bedford; step-sisters, Raynan Hunter of Greencastle, Kyla Gillespie of Bedford and Gionni Cooper of Bedford; grandparents, Bill and Vida Chestnut of Paoli, and Marcia Kruse of Bedford; great grandmother, Treva Cooper of Bedford; nieces, Eleanor Cooper, Laila Cooper of Bedford; several aunts; uncles; and cousins.

Archie Glen Rankin, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 5:00 am on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at his residence.
Born September 3, 1934 in Forest, LA, he was the son of James Archie and Ina Mae (Kennedy) Rankin. He married Cecilia Hawkins on January 21, 1961 and she survives. Archie was a pipefitter/operator for Indiana Gas Company and a member of Avoca Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia of Bedford, three children: Robert D. Born October 12, 1929 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Emmett and Pearl (Lewis) Patton. She married Avery New on October 18, 1943 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2010.
She attended Patton Hill School. She retired as a nursing technician from Bedford Regional Medical Center in 1977. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include three daughters, Paulette (George) Sherrill and Elaine (Bob) Holt, both of Bedford, and Freida May, of Williams; grandchildren, Doug (Ruth) May, Wendy (Joe) Houk, Beth (J.D.) Hayes, Jennifer (Paul) Denesha, Adriane (Eric) Beasley, Tricia (Ronnie) Frost, Kelly (Jeff) Boruff, Leann Strunk, Sherry (David) Toss, and Jimmy Strunk; several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Joyce Strunk; a step-grandson, Scott Holt; two sisters, Ethel Medlock and Margie Allen; two brothers, Opal (in infancy) and Paul Patton.

Thomas Loyal Miller, 80, of Bedford, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at his residence.
Born January 18, 1941 in Danville, IL, he was the son of Jack L. and Agnes (Latoz) Miller. He married Janice Gayle “Jodi” Julian on September 29, 1969 and she survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He retired as a pressman for the Herald-Times Newspaper on December 1, 2002 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Bedford Boat & Sportsman’s Club and the Cecil Martin Post #250 American Legion. Thomas’ favorite saying is “he worked for 4 newspapers, had 3 children, 2 wives and 1 helluva good time.”
Survivors include his wife, Jodi; three children, Karrie Young (Lisa Daugherty), Sam Miller (Kristy) and Kristina Baker (Troy); grandchildren, Ashley Cloud (Sam), Brentlee Daugherty, Drew Baker, Scott Miller, Evan Baker, Tyler Miller, and Cole Baker; great grandchildren, Brody and Eli Cloud; a sister, Sally Hanson (Bill); long-time friend, Kenny Wagoner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His wishes were to be cremated. A memorial gathering will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Betty was born July 8, 1937, in Monroe County to Gilbert W. and Dorothy Pearl (Sipes) Eads. On Jan. 14, 1957, she married Virgil L. Thomas and he preceded her in death.
She was of Pentecostal Faith.
She is survived by her son, Alan Thomas; daughter, Connie (Thomas) Kendall; brother, Ancil Eads; grandchildren, Christina Kline, Heidi Meadows, Tiffany Brantley, Brian McNabb, Jamin Thomas, Josh Thomas, Jessica Hooten, Brittany (Michael) Stewart and Cody Thomas; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Landon Scott Yoder, 4, of Orleans formally of Georgia, passed away at 11:30 AM on Monday, May 17, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family after a one year battle with cancer.
He was born April 29, 2017 in Dublin, Georgia, the son of Aubrey and Lanie (Harrell) Yoder.
Landon loved preaching and preachers. He attended First Apostolic Church in Mitchell and enjoyed singing in the choir. He enjoyed big trucks and mug bogging. Landon loved to wear his cowboy hat and boots.
He is survived by his parents; one brother, Bentley Yoder; maternal grandfather, Wayne (Lyndsay) Harrell of Florida; maternal grandmother, Nena Harrell of Georgia; paternal grandfather, David Yoder of Georgia; paternal grandmother, Cheryl Yoder of Arizona; several great grandparents; three aunts, Kylee Harrell of Florida, Jolynn (Sheldon) Freed of Georgia and Esta Yoder of Arizona; three uncles, Cody Harrell (Toni) of Georgia, Winford Yoder of Georgia and Geoffrey Yoder of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great grandmother, Heather Sanchez; two maternal great grandfathers, Michael Moody and James Harrell.
The Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the First Apostolic Church in Mitchell with Brother Paul Uzzle, Brother Paul Beasley, Brother Terry Meade and Pastor Robert Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.

Ruth Louise (Slater) Pruett

Ruth Louise (Slater) Pruett was charming, beautiful and truly worthy of praise. Born December 11th 1918, the daughter of Jessie Slater and Susie (Albaugh) Slater in the Mitchell Indiana. She grew up with her sister, Mary, attending Mitchell Public Schools, and graduated in 1937. After high school she attended Indianapolis City Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1940 and beginning her career as a Registered Nurse.
On September 12th of 1942, she married Clarence Eugene Pruett. While Gene served in the Pacific Theater during WWII, Ruth served her county and local community as an RN. For 66 years she shared life’s ups and downs with Gene, and in time would become an important part of various ministries.
After WWII they worked together to build their community and share their faith. In 1953, Ruth helped with the establishment of a new church in Mitchell that would become Tulip Street Christian Church. As an accomplished seamstress, Ruth made outfits for some and repairs for countless others. As a fantastic cook, she prepared many a meal for families and individuals in need. Her cherry pie was legendary!
She worked at Dunn Memorial Hospital for the majority of her career and retired from Hoosier Uplands. She also worked with her husband, showing compassion to those in need and making a difference in her community. Ruth was also an accomplished artist creating many beautiful paintings.
In 2008 her beloved Gene preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents and sister, Mary (Slater) Kern.
On Monday, May 17, having lived 102 plus years, surviving the great depression, five wars and two pandemics, Ruth closed her eyes and went home to be with the lover of her soul and the love of her life.
She is survived by her nieces Mary Kern, Debbie Watterson, Susan Mayden, and Karen Urig; nephew, Steven Covert; grand nephews Spencer Lujan and Jordan Kern; and special family, Theresa Thayer and Scott, Libby, Isaac, and Michael Chastain.
Ruth left this world rich in friends and admirers and praised by countless souls lucky enough to be invited into her home and heart. She truly was a godly woman and worthy of praise.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Scott Chastain, Brother Darrin Chastain, and Brother Phil McDonald officiating. Jerry Wayne Lewis, 82, of Springville, passed away at 11:57 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at his residence.
Born December 6, 1938 in Oolitic, he was the son of Owen Wayne and Esther Mae (Cobb) Lewis. He married Donna Kay Horn on June 21, 1957 and she survives.
He retired as a machine operator after 27 years at General Motors. He had been a stonecutter at Indiana Limestone Co. and other stone mills for over 20 years. He was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church, the Patriot Lodge #750 F & AM, Scottish Rite and York Rite.
He was a constant fan of BNL Athletics and was instrumental in establishing Oolitic Biddy Ball and the Oolitic Boys Baseball League. He coached basketball at Shawswick and Oolitic Middle Schools and refereed for high school basketball for many years.
Nothing was more important than his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Kay Lewis, of Springville; two sons, Jim Lewis and wife, Debbie, of Avoca and Mike Lewis, of Oolitic; five grandchildren, Sarah Folmer and husband, William, of Oolitic, Tyler Wayne Lewis and wife, Kayla, of Oolitic, Allen Lewis, of Avoca, Kaleigh Lewis, of Oolitic, and Owen Lewis, of Oolitic; four great grandchildren, Jamey and Molly Folmer, Evan and Reed Lewis; cousins, Jack Cobb, Sherry Griffin, Sheila Gilbert, and Susan Tirey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Angela D. ‘Angel’ (Corbin) Watson, age 60 passed away all too soon on Monday morning, May 17, 2021 at her home in Brown County.
She was born on November 17, 1960 in Heltonville, to her parents, Donald and Judith (Winegar) Corbin. Angel attended Bedford North Lawrence High School and went on to earn a degree in Automotive Service from Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis.
She most recently worked as a cafeteria worker for Indian Creek Schools, where she enjoyed being around the children and her co-workers. Prior to that, she worked as a manager for both Dollar General in Trafalgar and the Abe Martin Lodge in Nashville.
Angel was a member of the Church of the Lakes in Nineveh. She enjoyed making jewelry, sewing, quilting and decorating her home for Christmas. Angel was a fan of NASCAR with Mark Martin being her favorite driver. She will be remembered for her love of her close friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Angel is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Robert M. ‘Bob’ Watson, whom she married on June 9, 2003 in St. Paul. She is also survived by her mother, Judith Corbin of Heltonville; children, Justin (Linsey) Hilgemeier of Brownsburg and Burt (Melissa) Dickinson of Columbus; grandchildren, Chloe and Ella Hilgemeier, Ben, Ethan, Ryan and Triston Dickinson; sisters, Gina Zukas of Martinsville and Tammy (Scott) Todd of Heltonville.
Angel was preceded in death by her father, Donald Corbin; and sisters, Edie and Christy Corbin.

Born February 6, 1935 in Perry County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles Barringer and Lula McKim, raised by her mother and Laban Roberts. She graduated from Oolitic High School. She married Jackie D. “Jack” Day on December 13, 1957 and he preceded her in death on January 23, 2016. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Union Christian Church.

Born in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles Wade and Mary (Hoosier) Wade. Sheena was a graduate of Indiana University, had previously worked at Dana Corp in Mitchell, and was of the Lutheran Faith. She was a Nana to a lot of children in this town, not just her own.
Surviving to cherish Sheena’s memory are two daughters, Tonya Stevens and Trish Stevens; one son, Rob (Tiffaney) Stevens; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Terry (Kathy) Wade and Don (Susan) Wade; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Alan Wade.

Born June 15, 1940, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Joseph Emerson Schultz and Nina (Jones) Staggs.
Karen was a nurse practitioner and an obstetrics nurse at Indiana University Health Paoli Hospital. She enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and watching television. Karen loved her family.

Elizabeth Grace Cottengain, 74, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Paoli Health and Living Community.
Born August 10, 1946, in Orleans, she was the daughter of Homer and Frances (Rose) Moffatt. She married David Morris Cottengain September 17, 1963, and he preceded her in death August 1, 2013.
Elizabeth was a homemaker.
Surviving are her daughters, Jacqueline Cottengain of Mitchell, Tammie Cottengain of Paragon; grandchildren, Jessica Miller, Miranda Tillette, Dustin Grant, and Dylan Cottengain; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Hole, Garrett Miller, Lily Evans, and Myra Tillette; brothers, Danny Moffatt of Orleans, Johnny Bill Moffatt of French Lick.
Her parents; husband; son, David Allen Cottengain; and brothers, David Moffatt and Edward Moffatt, preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Mitchell Cemetery with Brother Jim Russell officiating.

Karen Jean Beasley, 67, of Owensburg, passed away at 11:56 pm on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at her residence.
Born June 22, 1953 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Maxwell Gene and Shirley Maxine (Briner) Holmes. She retired from Indiana University as a kitchen aide. She was a member of Bethel Christian Church in Owensburg.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Marshall (Edward), of Bedford and Misty Flick (Shawn), of Owensburg; three grandchildren, Jacob Bell (Chey), Dakota Bell, and Aaron Flick; two great grandchildren, Kole and Gracelyn Bell; a sister, Rhonda Bell (Charlie), of Springville; a brother, Terry Holmes, of Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Cathy George and Molly Ratliff.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, May 18th at Dishman Cemetery with Pastor Dave Self officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 18th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Marcella Kay Patton, 63, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born April 16, 1958, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Manfred and Dorothy (Baker) Stancombe.
Marcella had been employed in several restaurants.
Surviving are her children, Michael Kline of Bedford, Joshua Kline of Bedford, Eric Kline of Bedford, Amie Dietsch of Washington; 16 grandchildren; great-granddaughter, Jayleigh Kline and one on the way; siblings, Stephen Stancombe of Mitchell, Dale Stancombe of Mitchell, Vicki New of Alabama, Patty Frost of Alabama.
Her parents; grandchildren, Gavin Kline and Lance Dietsch; and sister, Debbie Young, preceded her in death.

Terry Lee Wininger, 57, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021, at his home.
Born August 13, 1963, in Paoli, he was the son of Ralph Wayne and Reva Carol (Longest) Wininger.
Terry retired from the Town of Paoli with 15 years of service. He graduated from Bedford-North Lawrence High School in 1982. Terry loved spending time with his grandkids and he enjoyed fishing, camping, and visiting Kentucky.
Surviving are his children, Eric (Lana Grimes) Miller of Mitchell, Cherokee (Steven Caudill) Wininger of Paoli, Donna Jo (Trey Lowe) of Hardinsburg; mother, Reva Wininger of Paoli; grandchildren, Chase Zehr, Nathanial Miller, Lucas Miller, Aubrey Caudill, and Dusty Caudill; siblings, Christina (Rick) Arp of Orleans, Anna Marie Garrett of Mitchell, Tony (Christy) Wininger of Paoli, Thomas Wininger of Orleans; several nieces and nephews; best friends, Victoria and Jesse Boggs of Albany, Kentucky.
His father; brother, Gerald Wininger; and sister, Diana Strange, preceded him in death.
Following cremation, burial will be in Harned Chapel Cemetery.

Born June 15, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Frank W. Decker, Jr. and Carol (Shaffer) Block. She married Dale Mathew Holt April 30, 1994.
Kim was a homemaker and a member of Tulip Street Christian Church. She graduated from Loogootee High School in 1978.
Surviving are her husband, Dale Holt of Mitchell; son, Jason Mathew Holt of Mitchell; mother and stepfather, Carol and Kenneth Block of New Concord, Kentucky; grandchildren, Owen Tyler Holt, Rhealynn Ranae Holt; brothers, William (Amy) Decker of Paducah, Kentucky, Frank (Elisa) Decker III of Chicago, Illinois; several nieces and nephews.
Her father preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Darrin Chastain officiating. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date in Mitchell Cemetery.

Dras B. Tirey, 32, of Oolitic, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021 in Bedford.
Born July 11, 1988 in Monroe Co., he was the son of Robert D. and Pamela K. (Stannard) Tirey. He was a die cast setter for General Motors in Bedford and a member of U.A.W. Local #440. Dras was an avid walker who loved walking in the state parks with his mom or friend, Carrie. He loved working at the wood shop with his dad and uncle Don. He enjoyed outdoor grilling and other adventures. He loved life.
Survivors include his parents, of Oolitic; a brother, Garry Tirey (Samantha), of Springville; a half-brother, Ritchie Tirey (Paula), of Bedford; a half-sister, Terri Turner (Randy), of East Oolitic; nephews, Maxwell, Alexander, and Bennett Tirey, Ky and Chad Turner; a niece, Jencie Brown.
He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Garry L. Tirey.

Rowanna Mae Lupher, 95, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at her home.
Born June 26, 1925, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Claude and Mary Nettie (Fields) Chastain. She married Ronald Edmund Lupher September 7, 1957, and he preceded her in death August 29, 1989.
Rowanna had been employed at Trav-Ler Radio Corporation, M. Fines & Son, and RCA.
She was a 90-year member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene, and Sunday school teacher for 50 years. Rowanna also volunteered at Mitchell Manor. She was a 1945 graduate of Mitchell High School.
Rowanna was a wonderful mother who loved her kids and grandkids. She was a devoted Christian and will be missed by all.
Surviving are her son, Ronald P. (Dawn) Lupher of Mitchell; daughters, Karla J. (Greg Archer) Wininger of French Lick, Darla A. (Larry ) Schneider Jones of Mitchell; grandchildren, Kerstin (Jim) Hart, Nicholas (Chrissy) Street, Jessica Wininger, Justin (Randi) Wininger, Jason (Christyna) Wininger, and RJ Ronald Lupher; great grandchildren, Aurora Frank, Lily Street, Emma Cougler, Kaylee Brooking, and Avery Wininger.
Her parents; husband; and siblings, Curtis Eugene Chastain, Pauline LaVerne Wilkinson, Rev. Claude Chastain, Jr., and Marilyn Madge Cauble, preceded her in death.

Patricia J. Terry, 82, of Bedford, passed away at 2:57 am on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born September 5, 1938, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Lora and Josephine (Wray) Brooking. She married Donald Terry on July 14, 1956 and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2015.
She had worked as a bookkeeper for Skelgas for twenty-eight years and was a member of the White River Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Terry and Steve Terry, both of Bedford; a granddaughter, Kelsi Terry, of Orleans; two grandsons, Kreg Terry and wife, Megan, of Ft. Wayne and Darren Terry and wife, Miranda, of Colorado Springs, CO; a great grandson, Theo Terry; two brothers, Edward of Bedford and James Brooking, of Norman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Randy Brooking.

Born December 27, 1942 in Greene Co., IN, she was the daughter of Ezra and Geneva (Wagner) Martindale. She married Lonnis Lee “Lonnie” Baker on April 3, 1959 and he preceded her in death on June 15, 2002. She had been a factory worker at RCA for twenty years and had attended the Solsberry Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include three children, Lesa Dawn Sanders and husband, Dan, of Greene Co., Bobbi Jo Chambers and husband, David, of Springville, and Larry Baker and wife, Laura, of Mitchell; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, Jimmy Lee, Lonnie Wayne, and Billy Don Baker.

Michael E. Hovis, 63, of Shoals, IN passed away Friday April 23, 2021 at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born on December 28, 1957 in El Paso, Texas to Alva H. and Mary Jane (Howell) Hovis.
Mike was a gifted heavy equipment operator. He worked for different companies over the years including Toltest and Maven Construction and Environmental.
Mike loved music, especially Rock and Roll and was considered a Music Historian by his family and friends for always knowing lyrics, facts, and stories about the songs he loved. He was a generous man and an animal lover. Mike will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Alva H. Hovis.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Wells Hovis, his daughter, Alexandria Gerkin, his mother, Jane Hovis, his siblings, Alan Hovis, Kim Hovis, and Karol Hovis, his mother-in-law, Brenda Wells, his father-in-law, Ferrell Wells, his brother-in-law, Terry Wells, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was born July 6, 1974 in Bedford, IN, the son of Dennis Tincher and Lisa (Buck) Tincher.
He graduated from Orleans High School, class of 1992. He worked several years as a travel manager for AAA Hoosier Motor Club. He loved working with cattle, outdoors and landscaping.
He is survived by his mother of Orleans; father of Orleans; one brother, Josh Tincher (Misty) of Orleans; two sisters, Jessica (Melissa) Tincher of Fishers and Joanna Tincher (Tiffany Gibson) of Chapin, South Carolina; maternal grandmother, Peggy Buck; seven nieces and nephews, Austin, Cordayjah, Adyson, Nas’zea, Avery, Jamir and Jaquan; several aunts; uncles; cousins and many friends that he loved.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Helen Tincher; maternal grandfather, Don Buck; four nieces, Alyvia Kaylea, Aleigha Kylea, Analyn Kynzlea and Avalyn Kayzlea and his beloved dog, Gigi.
A private graveside service will be on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Orleans.

Jerry Wayne Brewer, 80, of Hot Springs Village, AR, passed away on April 27, 2021.
Jerry was born April 30, 1940 to Noble and Eulah Brewer in Orleans, IN.
Jerry was a United States Air Force veteran and worked for 34 years as an electrical engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, IN. He was an avid golfer and spent many happy days on the golf courses in the Village.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife Judy, his sisters Norma Flick and Donna Sanders, his brother Joe Brewer, and his children Jerrie Chiu, Jay Brewer, and Jennifer Brewer. Jerry also had seven grandchildren.

Linda Gayle Groce, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on May 8, 2021, at home, surrounded by her family.
Linda was born in Bedford to the late Beatrice (Jarvis) and Cecil Williams.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Anthony and a daughter, Tammy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry; and her sons, John, David and Tate; and daughter Kim. She is also survived by her sister, Cedar Orman; and was grandmother to Luke, Mason, Cole, Taylor, Beau, Matthew, Conner, Cate, Camden, Garrett and Devann.
Linda graduated in 1985 from Indiana University with her Bachelors in Nursing. She then began her nursing journey in 1987 and went on to become a pioneer in behavior health nursing in Bloomington. She worked at what is now called Centerstone for nearly 30 years and treated patients with underlying mental health conditions. It would be an understatement to say this was Linda’s passion in life. Her mission was to help others who fall short of helping themselves whether it be in general population or those who have been placed within the judicial system. She was also a proud member of the faculty for the Capstone Program at the Indiana University School of Nursing.
Linda’s hobbies were her family, sports, travel, camping and she held memberships and affiliations for the America Nurse Credentialing Center, the Indiana Board of Nursing and the Church of Christ. Linda also had a huge soft spot for animals.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone with whom she interacted, directly or indirectly, in her career as a nurse. Her kindness, loyalty and compassion will continue to live on through all that knew her. The best description of Linda would be “fun, passionate, funny, feisty, and always … without a filter.” We can all agree that we wouldn’t have wanted her any other way!
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with service beginning at noon in the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at 2:30 p.m. in Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford.

Michael “Mike” W. Busch, 80, of Bedford, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 in Bloomington.
He was born August 23, 1940 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Jack and Viola (Baldwin) Busch. He married Wanda “Rita” Harrison on Nov. 6, 1965 and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2018.
Mike worked at Regal Beloit for 22 years until they closed and then retired from Indiana Steel as a machinist. He attended Bedford Baptist Temple and was active in area sports, including bowling, baseball, softball, fishing and coaching little league teams.
Surviving to cherish Mike’s memory are his sons, Tom (Mindy) Busch and Steve Busch, both of Bedford; daughter, Charlotte Blackburn of Bedford; grandchildren, Kayla (Matt), Michael, Karly (Justin), Thomas, Daniel, Shane, Lea, Nathaniel, Clay (Tayler) and Bailey; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Ainsley, Gibson, Greylen, Everley, Judson and Daxson; and several nieces and nephews.

William Alfred Lynch (Bill), age 90, 315 West Third Street, Connersville, Indiana, died on May 4, 2021 at Courtyard Manor in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
He was born January 24, 1931, to George W. Lynch and Leola I. Smith in Mitchell, Indiana.
On September 18, 1952, he married the love of his life, Mary Helen Baker, in Mitchell, IN. They met and attended Junior High and High School in Mitchell. Bill worked in the Kroger meat department in Mitchell all through high school.
He was an Army veteran having served from 1951 until 1953. He was honorably discharged from the Army, then attended and graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. After working and living in the Cincinnati area for six years after graduation, he moved his family to Connersville, In. in 1964. He worked as an industrial engineer at H.H. Robertson for seven years and at Design and Manufacturing until his retirement in 1993. After his retirement, he was a devoted caretaker of his wife for many years.
When Bill was a young man, he was known as one of the top pool players in Mitchell. Well into his retirement, he continued to enjoy playing pool and spent countless hours practicing trick shots. He loved listening to music and had an extensive and eclectic collection of music. He was a devoted pet owner caring for many cats and dogs over the course of his lifetime. When he wanted a break from the duties of home, he enjoyed riding on his Honda Motor Scooter. He and his wife were members of Central Christian Church in Connersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, Jason Quarles, his wife of 66 years, Mary Helen and his son, Stephen Baker Lynch. Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Cheryl Wickham (Mark) of Brighton, MI.; Pamela Faith Binge of Naples, FL.; and a son, William P. Lynch of Richmond, IN. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Taira Lynch and Keisha Klein (Benjamin); Dustin and Brian Binge, Carly Bromley (Chad); Andrew (Kit) and Hannah Wickham; and one great grandchild, Zoey Klein. Also surviving are his brother, Jerry Williams, his sister Kathy Quarles (Ed), and nephews Gary Williams (Cheryl), Rocky (Michelle) and Brandon (Kyria) Quarles.
Funeral Services will be May 15 at Chastain Funeral Home in Mitchell, In. Visitation will be at 10 am with a service at 11. Burial will be at Sheeks Cemetery in Lawrence County, IN.

Susan Lynn Hood, 61, formerly of Mitchell, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born February 20, 1960, in Portsmouth Virginia, she was the daughter of Wilbur Dale Long and Delores Mae (Ritchison) Albright. She married Larry Dean Hood December 30, 2015.
Susan was a homemaker and a 1979 graduate of Mitchell High School. She loved her family.
Surviving are her husband, Larry Hood of Paoli; children, Kim (Mike) Earl of Mitchell, Angela (Jedd) Edwards of Mitchell, Kyle McLain of Bedford; grandchildren, James Brown, Kody Earl, Harli Earl, Raelynn Edwards, and Macee Edwards; sisters, Ruthie Pruitt of Mitchell, Rebecca James of Henderson, Tennessee, Wendy Smith of Mitchell.
Her parents preceded her in death.

Alma Ruth (Meehan) Abel, age 91, of French Lick, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on May 6th, 2021 at Springs Valley Meadows, French Lick, Indiana.
She was born in Orange County, Indiana on November 30th, 1929 to John Edward and Myrtle Rose (Dickens) Meehan.
Alma married Donald McClellan Abel on January 6th, 1949 and he preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her Parents; Brothers, Carl, John, David, Thomas and infant Louis Meehan; Sisters, Pauline White, Leona Brewer, Lorene Reynolds, Vera Blevins and infant Wilma Meehan.
Alma was a member of Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church and had worked at the Shoe Factory in French Lick, Sheraton Hotel in housekeeping, and Medco Health and Rehabilitation as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed working in her flower garden.
Alma is survived by her Sons, David Abel (Hermi) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Phillip Abel of Newport, Tennessee; Daughters, Linda Smith (Michael) of Bedford, Indiana, Leah Bledsoe (David) of French Lick, Indiana; Brother, Paul Meehan of French Lick, Indiana; Sister, Thelma Brown (Robert) of West Baden Springs, Indiana; Grandchildren, Davey Bledsoe (Jami) of French Lick, Indiana, Phillip B. David M. Lee

David M. Lee of Bedford passed away Wednesday, May 5 following a period of declining health. He was 99.
David was born in Lawrence County on March 17, 1922 to Charles and Orpah Lee. He grew up on a farm near Leesville, Indiana. After serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII, David first traveled to Alaska in 1947, and again in 1951 where he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. He met Margaret Broady in Anchorage and the two were married on November 20, 1953.
Dave and Margaret had a pioneer spirit and were able to obtain land in Alaska under the Homestead Act. They raised their family in Alaska. Besides farming, David worked at a gold mine for a short time, commercial fished for several years, did maintenance work at Victory Bible Camp and operated school buses for a small, rural school in Alaska.
David loved the Lord and his family. He could often be heard singing his favorite hymns and sharing Scripture with those around him. He enjoyed his farm near Leesville and loved working in the forest.
David is survived by his sister, Donna Hennessee, sons, Brian (Lori), Dan (Sandy) of Glacier View, Alaska and daughter Sharon (Marlin) Beachy of Baltic, Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa, Travis, Rachel, Jeff, Chelsea, Jesse and Jennifer, five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret and grandson Ryan.
A celebration of life service will he held at Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 9. The family would like to thank the staff at Stonebridge Health in Bedford and Southern Care Hospice Services for their loving care.

Jon Patrick Brown 62, of Shoals passed away on Saturday May 1, 2021 at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Born August 1, 1958, in Martin County, he was the son of John E. and Carrie Elizabeth (Arvin) Brown.
Pat was a 1976 graduate of Columbus North High School and attended Ball State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.
Pat had been an insurance agent in Shoals, Loogootee and Columbus for many years. Pat was a gifted trap shooter and belonged to several Gun Clubs in the Shoals/Loogootee area. Pat was an avid reader and he enjoyed history and genealogy. He was also a dog lover and always enjoyed the company of his Australian Shepherds, Trouble and Yogi.
Pat was an active member of the Bedford Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution for many years and also was a member of the Loogootee Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his sister, Lisa Golay of Louisville; nephew, Benjamin (Katie) Golay; and great-niece and great-nephew, Isabella, and Jacob all of San Diego.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, David Hicks. Along with his parents, his shepherd Trouble would have greeted him in Heaven for his next amazing journey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Shoals. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Shoals.

Carolyn Sue Vice, 83, of Tavares, Florida, passed from this earth to Heaven on Monday, May 3, 2021, with her family by her side.
Carolyn was born in Columbus, on Sept. 8, 1937, to Frank and Florence Sanders. She graduated from Columbus High School and attended Franklin College. She was married to James D. Vice and he preceded her in death.
She was employed and retired from Indiana Bell as a telephone operator and computer analyst. She was a member of Slayden Baptist Church in Slayden, Tennessee. She also attended Tavares First Baptist Church of Tavares, Florida. She was baptized later in life at Slayden Baptist Church in Slayden, Tennessee.
Carolyn was survived by her children, Mark E. Vice (Marta) of Tavares, Florida, Joseph E. Vice (Sharon) of Greenwood, Michael A. Vice (Cathy) of Oxford, Mississippi and Thomas F. Vice (Nancy) of Indianapolis. Carolyn had seven grandchildren, Julia Canter, Christopher Vice, Jordan Vice, Stephanie Vice, Mitchell Vice, Jamie Fortner and Morgan Thompson; as well as, 16 great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald Sanders.
A sister, Virginia Purdue, preceded her in death.
Carolyn loved cooking, gardening, riding her bike, attending her kids’ sporting events, visiting her friends in her park, playing dominoes, reading and being surrounded by family and friends.
Through the loving care of Joseph and Sharon Vice, Carolyn’s final days on this earth were ushered into Heaven with love and compassion.
A service will be scheduled in the future to remember “Mom” and her journey from this life to the next.

Dr. Brian Charles Barlow
Dr. Brian Charles Barlow, 64, of Indianapolis, formerly of Bedford, passed peacefully at his home on Tues, May 4th, 2021.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Belinda; his daughter, Grace, and son-in-law, Jordan. He is also survived by his siblings Steven (Sandy) Barlow, Lou Ann (Gregg) Morelock, Sherri (Paul) Robbins, Lori (Robert) Eaker and his stepfather, David Griffin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Labon” Merle Barlow and Doris Jean Barlow Griffin.
Brian graduated from Bedford High School in the Class of 1974 where he excelled in baseball, basketball, marching band, and academics. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Anderson College, where he met his wife, Belinda, in 1978.
Brian continued his studies at the School of Theology located on the Anderson College campus, receiving his ordination as a Minister of the Church of God in 1983 and completing his Masters of Arts and Religion and Masters in Divinity in 1983 and 1984, respectively.
While he was a student at Anderson College, Brian had the opportunity to travel world-wide, including trips to The Holy Land, Japan, and Africa. One of Brian’s most honorable accomplishments was receiving his Doctorate of Philosophy degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 1992. While studying at Emory, he was awarded the Bobby Jones Scholarship and studied abroad at the University of St. Andrews.
Brian was an active member in The American Academy of Religion and The Soren Kierkegaard Society, where he regularly presented papers at their annual international conferences. One of Brian’s most treasured academic pursuits was spending many summers with his family researching at The Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.
Following his graduation from Emory University, Brian held the position of Professor of Philosophy at Brenau University for 10 years, before returning to his alma mater, Anderson University, where he taught Religion, Philosophy, and Christian Ethics as a tenured professor from 2006 – 2017. In his final years, Brian returned to his true passion of research, studying the works of his favorite scholars, including Soren Kierkegaard and Karl Barth.
Brian was a deeply devoted husband and father, always calling his family his “pride and joy”. He cherished time with his daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Jordan, and was greatly anticipating the arrival of his first grandson in July 2021. Some of his most treasured pastimes included trips to Brown County and Spring Mill State Park, watching the Reds, and enjoying quiet evenings in Grace and Jordan’s backyard.
Funeral services will be held at Day and Carter Mortuary in Bedford, IN at 2pm on Wednesday, May 12th, with Visitation from 12pm until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Randy Eugene Brooking, 67 of New Albany, passed away April 28, 2021, at Lincoln Hills Nursing Home.
He was born in Bedford, on Aug. 3, 1953, to the late Lora and Josephine Brooking.
Randy was raised as a member of the Baptist faith, attending White River Baptist Church in Buddha. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. For many years, Randy worked as an over the road truck driver. He liked fast cars and food, especially ham and mayonnaise sandwiches. For the last few years, Randy was taken care of by his daughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Linda Brooking; and brother-in-law, Don Terry.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Jeff) Harris; grandchildren, Alexia, Peyton, Lily, Iris and Tristan; brothers, Eddie and Jim Brooking; sister, Pat Terry; as well as a host of other family.
Randy will be cremated and laid to rest in the White River Baptist Church Cemetery with his family.

Elizabeth Marie “Liz” Doss (Smith), 56, of Bedford, passed away at 10:45 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Garden Villa.
Born September 9, 1964 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of William Gilliam and Eliza Bailey. She was the sixth of thirteen children. She confessed to Christ at an early age and joined the Second Baptist Church in Bedford, IN.
Liz attended several elementary schools and went to Calumet High School. She didn’t have much of a youth. She had to learn motherhood at the age of 15. She tried her best, it wasn’t easy for her. Her first job was at Church’s Chicken and later worked at Nate’s Meat Market. She loved working at her family’s restaurant, Chuck’s Soul Food where she did her part to help do it all.
In 1983, she met Clifford Smith and to that union was born a daughter, Chauntia Smith. In 1986 Clifford asked Liz for her hand in marriage and they were blessed to be married for 34 years.
Liz enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, the summer vacations, and holiday trips to her daughter’s house (Chauntia) to watch her cook. Liz had such a beautiful soul and she didn’t play about her grandchildren.

Harold W.”Bill” Bailey, originally from Bedford, passed away on Friday April 30, 2021, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was 87 years old.
He was born in Indiana, but moved to Massachusetts in 1965. He served in the military as a National Guard member for six years. He was employed as a stone mason at the East Longmeadow Quarry until its closing in 1971. He then went to work at the Joseph Freedman Co. in Springfield as a supervisor. He worked there until his retirement 32 years later.
He was a loyal Patriots fan as well as a devoted fan of NASCAR racing. He also loved to go to the casinos where he played the slot machines. Most Sundays would find him in his favorite chair watching whatever sports were in season.
He was a kind, fair, generous, and honorable man. He was an extremely hard worker for all his life, both at work and at home. He will be terribly missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Marjorie (Wells) Bailey; four children, Elizabeth, John, Steven, and Clara; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews. He also leaves two siblings, Gene and Joanne, both of Indiana.
He was predeceased by a brother, Fred; a sister, Janet; and his parents, Mary and John.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at a later date.

Twila L. Cobb, 84, of Springville, died at 8:47 pm on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Monroe Hospital.
Born December 22, 1936 in Bedford, she was the daughter of John and Bertha Esther (Nolan) Faubion. She married Russell Cobb on February 24, 1957, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2015.
Twila retired after thirty years from the U.S. Postal Service as a Postmaster. She was a member of the Springville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, John David Cobb and wife Penny, of Springville; one daughter, Janet Godsey and husband Mark, of Avon; four grandchildren, Alexandra Dair Evans, Jordan David Cobb, Erik Brendan Godsey, and Morgan Danielle Martin; great grandchildren, Josiah David Cobb, Madalynn Jolene Cobb, Calvin Michael Glynn, Jack Henry Godsey, Alexis Brooke Martin, Airy Ellen Martin, Liam Alexander Martin, and another great-granddaughter on the way.

Byron D. Feather

USAF Lt.Col. Byron D. Feather, 95, passed away Monday, April, 26, 2021, at Stonebridge Health Campus.
He was born May 31, 1925, to Harry Paul and Violet (Shoemaker) Feather in King, Pennsylvania. On May 7, 1960, he married Betty J. (Woody) Feather in Baltimore, Maryland, and she preceded him in death in January, 2018.
Col Feather joined the Air Force (then known as the Army Air Force) in August, 1943. He received flight training at NC State and attended Navigation School in Louisiana where he received his navigation wings and a commission as a Second Lieutenant.
A member of “The Greatest Generation,” he served as a navigator with the 67th Troop Carrier Squadron during WWII flying C-46 transport aircraft from the Philippines through the northern islands of Japan. As a USAF Reserve officer, he flew with the 71st Special Operations Squadron (SOS) on the AC-119 “Shadow” gunship in combat in Vietnam, eventually achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He was the recipient of several combat medals, including the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight, the Meritorious Service Medal for his work in establishing the first aircraft munitions safety program for the 434th Tactical Fighter Wing, and the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight.
As a civilian, he worked as a supervisor and manager of the guided missile maintenance branch at Crane Naval Weapons Supply Center from 1959 until his retirement in 1979.
Byron enjoyed his retirement years golfing, fishing, mushroom-hunting, traveling, keeping up with his five grandchildren and their activities, and trying to “beat the odds” at the casino. Known as “Iron Byron” for walking the hills of Otis Park Golf Course well into his 80s, he was particularly proud of his two holes-in-one at Otis. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, many aunts, uncles, cousins,and friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Craig (Jim); a son, Larry Cole (Veronica); grandchildren, Neil Craig (Magen) of Indianapolis: Reece Craig (companion Kelsie) of Bedford; Logan Cole (Meghan) of Wilmington,NC; Lauren Albert (Jake) and Olivia Dickey (Ryan) of St. Petersburg, FL; and great-grandchildren Judah Cole, Ezekiel Dickey, and baby girl Craig (arriving August, 2021).
He was a great dad, Little Pap, Papaw, and great-grandpa who was happy to play a game of backyard football or baseball with his grandchildren. He loved them all dearly.

Nancy Jane George, 91, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Clark Memorial Hospital.
Born October 6, 1929 in Bedford, she was the daughter of William and Carrie (Ganaway) Wintersmith. She married Herbert Lee George in 1947 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 1999.
She retired from General Motors in 1992 and had worked at Day & Carter Mortuary. She was a member of Tabernacle of Praise Church, former member of Tulip Street Christian Church in Mitchell, the United States Bowling Assoc. (USBA) and The Bowling Hall of Fame.
Survivors include two sons, William W. “W.W.” George and wife Carol, of Princeton and Stephen L. George and wife, Mary, of Mitchell; a daughter, Suzanne D. White and husband, Gary, of Jeffersonville; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 5th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Clarence Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 till the hour of service at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Ronald C. “Ron” Pierce, 66, of Bedford, passed away at his residence on May 1, 2021. Born in Marion County, Indiana, he was the son of Richard M. Pierce and Donna (Brooking) Boyles. He married Connie Cooper on February 14, 1976 and she survives.
Ron was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1974, was a member of the Sportsman’s Gun Club in Mitchell, and was a glazer at City Glass and Paint in Bloomington.
In addition to his wife Connie, Ron is survived by two daughters, Robin (Mike) Robertson and Desiree (Keith) Ottersbach; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Melanie (Tim) Wagoner and Lea (David) Havens; along with several nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter in infancy.
Cremation was chosen with no services at this time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford.

John Wesley Russell, 89, of Mitchell, passed away at 3:27 PM on April 29, 2021 at IU Health Bedford.
He was born March 24, 1932 in Mitchell, IN, the son of Fay F. and Lucille (Hutchinson) Russell.
He married Roxie, Erma and Jenny and they all preceded him in death.
He worked twenty years as a superintendent at the Lawrence County Highway Department. He was a member of the Mitchell American Legion Post 250.
He is survived by one daughter, Becky Crosby of Mitchell; three sons, Mike Russell of Detroit, Jack Russell of North Vernon and Roger Russell (Sharon) of Mitchell; three step children, Dora Wittmer of Evansville, Larry Dixon of Mitchell and Phillip Dixon (Susan) of Oolitic; seventeen grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wives; parents; two sons, Jimmy and Brian Russell.
The funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 3, 2021 at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home with Jim Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.

Edward M. Branum age 85 of Bedford passed away on Thursday April 29, 2021 at 6:51 AM at IU Health in Bedford.
He was born on April 7, 1936 in Bartlettsville, Kentucky to Edward and Viola Branum. He was married to his late wife, Emeline for 35 years and then married Carolyn R. Edwards on July 1, 1998 and she survives.
Ed ran and operated Wilson Locker in Brownstown for 25 plus years and was a professional meat cutter for over 40 years retiring in July of 2020. He was an avid bowler and loved to go dancing with his wife. He was a friend of Dr. Bob and Dr. Bill for 38 years of sobriety, he was loved and admired by many. He was a member of the Mitchell First Church of God.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn Branum of Bedford, two sisters, Effie Johnson of Stinesville and Alice (Clyde) Dewiert of Dunn Reef, Indiana, two sons, Eddie Darrell (Tom) Branum and wife Betty of Kurtz, and Walter Barnum and wife Karen of Florida, Step-son, Mathanial Brown of Bedford, five sisters-in-law’s; Judy, Sherry, Branda, Cindy and Rebecca, brother-in-law; Rick (Diana) Kimanan, several grandchildren and great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Emeline, daughter, Connie, son, Terry and wife Becky Branum, granddaughter, Penny, two brothers, and mother-in-law, Marjorie Linton
Funeral services will be on Tuesday May 4, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at the Mitchell First Church of God, burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, with Dr. Robert Courson, officiating.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service time at Noon, at the Mitchell First Church of God.

Kenneth “Kenny” Ashley, 58, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at home in Seffner, Florida on Sunday, April 25.
In his early years, Kenny was a mechanic at Ashley’s, his parents’ gas station and wrecker service in Oolitic. He enjoyed woodworking and sketching.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanetta and Donald Ashley.
He is survived by his daughters, Stormi and Misty; brothers, Donnie and Darrin Ashley; sister, Donna Feliciano; grandchildren, Bekah and Josh; grandmother, Lorene Ashley; and several extended family members.
No services are planned at this time.
James “Jimmy” Lee Sweigart

James “Jimmy” Lee Sweigart, 56, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at I. U. Health Hospice House of Bloomington.
He was born Oct. 8, 1964 in New Castle, Indiana, to James Sweigart and Jane (Lee) Davis.
Jimmy attended the First United Methodist Church and was a six-year member of the Tennessee National Guard. He was a retired large truck mechanic and enjoyed working on cars and riding his motorcycle.
Jimmy is survived by his son, J. Dalton Sweigart; two grandchildren; several cousins; and several aunts and uncles.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation was chosen and there will be a virtual memorial service held at a later date.

Mark Duane Workman, 61, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born September 30, 1959, in Bedford, he was the son of James Hubert and Dorothy Ruth (Mundy) Workman.
Mark had been employed at Indiana University and was an avid IU fan. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1977.
Surviving are his daughter, Candace (Matthew) Medlock of Bedford; step-children, Mandie Gerkin of Bedford, Stephanie Gerkin of Bedford; father, James H. Workman of Mitchell; two grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren; siblings, Marilyn (Jim) Workman-Harkness of Mitchell, Mike Workman of Mitchel, Myra (Darren) Smith of Bedford.
His mother and partner, Patrick Enis, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 3, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Brian Bolton officiating. Burial will be in at Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
