Helen Mae (Terrell) Pemberton

Helen Mae (Terrell) Pemberton, 56, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at her residence.

Born Oct. 30, 1960, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Wilbert and Peggy (Patton) Terrell. She married Robert Pemberton on Nov. 12, 1977; and he survives.

Helen was a member of the Bethel Country Church, Oolitic. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Robert; children, Peggy (Travis) Stinson, and Jennifer Pemberton (fiancé J.R. Hunt), five grandchildren, Adam, Trevor, Gavyn, Gracie and Kianna; four sisters, Brenda Wilson, Sherry Terrell, Kelly Nicholson and Betty Terrell; two brothers, Homer Terrell and Ricky Terrell; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David Terrell and Michael Terrell; and three sisters, Kathy Eagans, Knoxie Brown and Rossetta Terrell.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Sister Becky Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Patton Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Mary Ellen (Hayes) Compton

Mary Ellen Compton, 91, of Pekin, Ill., passed away at 6:36 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017, at Timbercreek Rehab & Health Care in Pekin.

Born July 27, 1926, in Canyon City, Colo., to Ralph and Elsie Faye (Hoopengarner) Hayes, she married Louis Vernon Compton Sept. 28, 1947, in Lawrence County. He passed away Aug. 7, 2012, in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Joyce Bennett.

Surviving are two sons, Warren (Gayle) Compton of Selawik, Alaska, and Randall (Crystal) Compton of Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Elizabeth (Joe) Crane of Bedford and Alyce Joyce Compton of Eureka, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Noelle Crane of Bedford, Adam (Charity) Compton of Troy, Mo., Danielle (Scott) Wallace of Pensacola, Fla., Bethany Compton and Caleb Compton of Selawik, Alaska, Paige Compton, Kent Compton and Lauren (Allen) Fearns, all of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Marcie (Alex) Bourne of North Pole, Alaska; and ten great-grandchildren, Brooke, Ethan and Jonathon Compton of Troy, Mo., Aiden, Elisha, Isaiah and Owen Wallace, all of Pensacola, Fla., and Summer, Isla and Galilee Bourne of North Pole, Alaska.

Mary Ellen was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin and a former member of White River Baptist Church in Buddha.

She had worked as an RN at the Illinois State Hospital in Lincoln, Ill., from 1971 until her retirement in 1994. She had also worked for several area nursing homes.

Mary loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved traveling, especially when she would visit her children in Alaska and out West. She collected coins and stamps and loved her pets.

Her funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, Ill. Pastor Randy Justus will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Additional services will be held at at 11 a.m. Wednesday at White River Baptist Church in Bedford. Pastor Lindy Hopkins will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in White River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Phyllis A. Gassaway

April 14, 1950 — July 26, 2017

Phyllis A. Gassaway, 67, of Bedford, gained her wings on July 26, 2017.

Born April 14, 1950, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Barney and Josephine (McGill) Gassaway.

She was the business office manager at Hoosier Hills Title Company.

Survivors include a daughter, Misty Staley of Bedford; a son, Jason Gassaway and wife Lena of Heltonville; four grandchildren, Whitney Elliott, Samantha Gassaway, Alexandra Gassaway and Dylan Staley; and two sisters, Laura Hutchinson and Pam Harper, both of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo Gassaway; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Harper.

Phyllis was a kind, compassionate soul who always put others before herself. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and savored life’s greatest moments with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Phyllis knew no stranger. She was a fighter, an inspiration to all who knew her, and a soul who always saw the glass as half full.

Phyllis had a strong will, unwavering faith in God, and the love and support of all her friends and family throughout her battle with cancer. Her sweet and simple demeanor will never be forgotten. May her memory forever live on in our hearts.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, July 31, and from 10 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Sue Alice (Thomas) Hunter

Sept. 28, 1926 — July 25, 2017

The Hunter family grieves the loss of Sue Alice (Thomas) Hunter, 90 years of age.

Sue was born to parents Ralph and Jessie (Williams) Thomas. She was raised alongside six brothers and sisters in the Pinhook area and graduated in 1944 from Shawswick High School.

In 1947, she married Wilmer C. Hunter and moved to the Mundell community. Together they raised seven children while also caring for Wilmer’s aging mother, Ida and brother, Winton. Their home was a busy place, but the door was always open to visitors.

Sue was a great country cook, often feeding twenty or more on Sundays. As a member of the North Bedford Church of Christ, she was an encouraging example to young wives and mothers.

Sue was active in her community as well. She was longtime treasurer of the Flatwood Neighbors Club and a charter member. She was the classroom “Grandma” to Mrs. Carolyn Tincher’s first graders at Heltonville Elementary for many years.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Walter (Cindy) Hunter, Tom, Sudie, and Keith Hunter of Heltonville, Don (Marilyn) Hunter, and Dwight (Ramona) Hunter of Bedford, and Kevin (Mary) Hunter of Bloomington. Also surviving are many grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale (Norma) Thomas; and two sisters, Jane (Don) Turpen and Nancy (Tom) Fletcher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer C. Hunter; brothers, Don Thomas and Harry Lee Thomas; one sister, Betty Ooley; one daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Hunter; and two grandsons, Billy Hunter and Howard Dwight Hunter.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Brother Walter Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Mundell Cemetery.

David Alan Sears

May 19, 1950 — July 25, 2017

David Alan Sears went to the Lord and Savior on July 25, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving family.

David was born May 19, 1950, to Leslie and Anna Sears, who preceded him in death. He had two brothers, both deceased, Leslie Jr. and Ronnie; and three sister, Betty and Jona, deceased, and Clara Noel of Bedford, who survives.

On Dec. 30, 1972, he married Becky Ann Ryan. They spent 37 wonderful years together before her death on Dec. 9, 2010.

On July 30, 2012, he married Sherri Carney and she survives.

David worked at G.E. for 42 years in maintenance. He served in the U.S. Navy Airedales 1969-1973 as a Jet Mechanic He served at Memphis, Tenn.; San Diego, Calif.; Merman, Calif. and three years at Barbers Point, Hawaii.

David spent several early years at the Brownstown Speedway working on the Riggles Racecar. Once his children came he went as a spectator.

David was a family man and spent most of his life with his children and grandchildren. He never missed an event they were in whether football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, band, dance, or orchestra. Many school programs were attended and sometimes he and Sherri would have to split up to get to everything scheduled. The kids always knew they were welcome at Papi’s house as they called him. You could find him manning the grill, blowing up or patching pool rafts, airing up bike tires, sharing where Santa was traveling, or seeing his 6’2” frame jumping and down in the trampoline. He loved traveling, going in antique shops, attending shows at Derby Dinner, Gatlinburg, and Branson, Mo. David and Sherri loved to go on the trike.

Surviving are children, Jeremy Sears, Juston Sears, Becky Sears, Todd Carney and Jeff Carney; and grandchildren, Abbigail Sears, Jacob Sears, Kyzer David Sears, Kalandra Sears, Isabelle Sears, Jeremiah Sears, Avery Carney, Alli Carney, Kristin Thornsberry, Mackenzy Pritchett and Mary Kate Pritchett. Other children frequently at the Sears house were Toni Brock, Kelton Meyers and Kailyn Meyers.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery with graveside rites accorded by members of the Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the mortuary.

Joe L. Koenig, 87, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital,

Born April 11, 1930, in Bicknell, he was the son of Jacob F. and Helen (Steffy) Koenig. He married Nancy Lela Wittenmyer June 15, 1963.

Joe retired from Mullis Petroleum and attended the Bride of Christ Fellowship.

He enjoyed working on tractors, especially John Deere. Joe was a U. S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Koenig of Bedford; son, Michael J. Koenig of Bicknell; daughter, Mendy (Steve) Lee of Mitchell; and son, Marty (Connie) Freeman of Mitchell; 13 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; and siblings, Ann Shouse of Oakland City, Danny Koenig of Princeton and Donna Hinkle of Vincennes.

His parents; daughter, Marsha K. Gardner; and siblings, Lucille Howe, Helen Martha Hayes, Betty Neal, Gayle Nolting, Lois Scott and Jimmy Koenig, preceded him in death.

Celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Bride of Christ Fellowship with Brother Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

George Thomas ‘Tom’ Leonard

April 19, 1951 — July 24, 2017

Tom Leonard, 66, of Taswell, died on July 24, 2017, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born on April 19, 1951, in Huntingburg, to the late Brandt and Hazel Oxley Leonard.

He was a retired water plant operator for the Patoka Lake Regional Water and Sewer District and also worked in the timber and construction businesses. He was a former Crawford County commissioner and county councilman, Patoka precint committeeman for Patoka No. 1, currently served on the Patoka Township Advisory Board, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles — Bedford Aerie No. 654.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Leonard; and parents, Brandt and Hazel Oxley Leonard.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet L. Wiseman Leonard of Taswell; son, Joe T. Leonard of Taswell; brothers, Nick Leonard (Geneva) and Perry Leonard (Sandy), both of Taswell; a sister, Sue Knieriem (Jim) of Taswell; and his in-laws, Gene Parham and Walter and Amy Wiseman, all of Bedford, Rita and Nick Watson of Clermont, Fla., and Lois and Dave Burton of Minneola, Fla.

Cremation was chosen following Tom’s wishes. A celebration of life memorial service will be at a later date.

Susan G. Terry, 60, of Springville, died at 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at her residence.

Born May 8, 1957, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Gerald and Anna Marie (Holmes) Shelton. She married Michael Terry on July 6, 1974 and he survives.

She was a homemaker and attended the Little Cincinnati Pentecostal Church.

She was a very special wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life revolved around her family. She loved spending time at home with her grandchildren. She always put others before herself. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Michael of Springville; two daughters, Jeanna West and husband Brad and Jennifer Pridemore, all of Springville; her mother, Anna Marie Shelton; three grandchildren, Levi West, Bailey West and Payton Pridemore, all of Springville; a brother, Max Shelton and wife Sherry of Springville; a sister, Leann Tolliver and husband Steve of Solsberry; and several nieces and nephews.

James Wesley Grace Sr.

Feb. 14, 1936 — July 23, 2017

James Wesley Grace Sr., 81, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Feb. 14, 1936, in Lee County, Va., he was the son of Roy and Lola (Babb) Grace. His first marriage was to Effie Cheek on Feb. 19, 1962, and she preceded him in death in April of 2000. He married Margaret Taylor March 30, 2001.

He was a hod carrier for Hatfield and Kellams.

James attended the Living Water Church of God. He loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, and was an avid motorcycle rider.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Grace of Mitchell; son, James Wesley (Kelly) Grace Jr. of Bedford; stepdaughter, Martha A. (DeWayne) Allen of Bedford; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother, Marshall Grace of Woodway, Va.

His parents; four brothers; and one sister preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Dive Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Hare officiating.

Wanda L. (Foddrill) Riley Ingram, 99, of Bloomington, died at 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Garden Villa in Bloomington.

Born April 13, 1918, in Tanner, she was the daughter of James E. and Dorothy Jane (King) Foddrill.

She was a homemaker and had attended Calvary Chapel Church in Bedford.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ann Combs of Bloomington; two sons, Lanny Ray Riley and wife Harriett of Columbus and Rodney Lee Riley and wife Teresita of Mitchell; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and four-great-great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and was the last of five sisters and two brothers.

Colonel Robinson

Colonel Robinson, 78, Campbellsburg, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born March 28, 1939, in Jackson County, Ky., he was the son of William and Fanny (Marcum) Robinson. He married Janet Arlene Tuddy in 1964.

Mr. Robinson was a roofer. He loved to fish, go to casinos, and make people laugh. He was always smiling.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Robinson of Campbellsburg; children, Tammy Lynn Summers of Mooresville, Wade Allen Robinson of Salem, and Melissa Dawn Knoy of Campbellsburg; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis Robinson of New Palestine, Ned Robinson and Charlie Robinson, both of Berea, Ky., and Roy Robinson of Indianapolis; and sister, Carol Harris of Berea, Ky.

His parents; son, Darrell Gene “Bub” Robinson; and siblings, Mark Robinson, Bob Robinson, and Sarah Mullis, preceded him in death.

Mychell “Shelly” Lynn Berry, 48, of Bedford, formerly of Logansport and Colorado Springs, died at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Garden Villa.

Born March 31, 1969, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Ralph LeRoy Berry and Karen Mychell Quinn. She has been a resident of Garden Villa for 37 years and has participated in the Special Olympics.

Survivors include her mother, Karen Mychell Quinn of Mitchell; one sister, Jacqueline Guyer and husband Paul; one brother, Philip Berry and wife Tina; nieces, Amanda Berry, Meredith Berry, Peighton Guyer, Arielle Guyer, Sydney Berry, and Hannah Berry; a great nephew, Braydon; and a great niece, Paisley.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph LeRoy Berry.

Born April 16, 1955, in Rushville, he was the son of Winfred and Esther (Dalton) Guthrie.

Jerry was a general contractor and had worked for Direct Line Communications. He loved hanging out with friends and family.

Jerry was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Anabel Wagner, 85, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Bliss Place.

Born July 31, 1931, in Williams, she was the daughter of Oral “Sport” and Mildred (Craig) Wagner. She retired from Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center.

She was a member of the Central Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary, National Association of Retired Federal Employees Local #578 and American Association of Retired Persons.

Survivors include two nephews, Donald E. Wagner Jr. of Chesterfield, Mo., and Robert L. Wagner of Bloomington; two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Eugene Wagner.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 24, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Private burial will be in Williams Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service on Monday at the mortuary.

Marlin K. Jewell, 73, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 1:45 a.m. at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 9, 1944, to Jesse and Esther (Holtsclaw) Jewell.

Marlin was a Co-Op dairy farmer in Florida, and attended the Mitchell Senior Citizens.

Survivors include five children, Keith Jewell of Fort Wayne, Marlin Neal Jewell of Okeechobee, Fla., Melissa Hart of Nashville, Tenn., Loren Jewell of New Castle, and Misty Boteler of Bloomington; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon Jewell of California; and one sister, Jesslyn Pfleider of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nelva Salmon, and one brother, Marion Jewell.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 24, at Cresthaven Funeral Home, burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Mary Alice (Richards) Spinks, 93, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1923, in Bedford, as the daughter of John M. and Vernie (Bridwell) Richards. She married Orval R. Spinks on Feb. 2, 1948, in Houston, Texas.

She owned the Country Town Shop laundry mat and dry cleaner for 15 years in New Palestine.

Mary was a member of Shiloh Christian Church and was formerly a Sunday school teacher at Cumberland Christian Church.

She loved shopping, always loved to cook, and was very hospitable to family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary E. Stafford of Florida and Jayne Erwin of Mexico; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vernie Richards; brothers, George Richards and Dr. John “Bus” Richards; sister, Clarice Ethridge; and grandson, Stephen.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN. A service will immediately follow.

A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Beech Grove Cemetery in Bedford, with Fred Girdwood officiating.

Shirley D. Beyers, 74, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at 6:44 p.m. at White River Lodge in Bedford.

She was born on April 10, 1943, in Lawrence County to James Collier and Alberta (Wheeler) Collier; she was raised by her aunts, Daisy Collier and Jessie Collier. She married Daniel Beyers on Aug. 19, 1962, in Bedford and he survives.

She was a homemaker and member of the Southland Church of Christ and the Bedford Moose Lodge; she also belonged to the Tri-County Red Hats.

Surviving with her husband, Daniel Beyers of Bedford, are three daughters, Dana (Charles) Delphia, Ann (Jeff) Weddle and Laura (Mike) Dougherty, all of Bedford; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; aunts, Daisy Collier and Jessie Collier; two brothers, David and Eddie Collier; two grandchildren; and one-great-grandchild.

Charles Ronnie Bridges, 77, of Bedford, died at 2:08 a.m. on Monday, July 17, 2017 at his residence.

Born July 3, 1940 in Bedford, he was the son of Charles and Beulah (Clendennon) Bridges. He married Edna Poll on Nov. 15, 1958, and she passed away on Sept. 18, 2010.

Charles was a wire saw operator for Elliott Stone Company, retiring after 39 years.

Surviving are three sons, Charles R. Bridges of Mitchell, David Ray (Lori) Bridges of Tennessee, and Michael Sean (Alice) Bridges of Bedford; two daughters, Kim Bridges of Texas and Amy Bridges of Bedford; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Larry Bridges, Harry Bridges and Frank Walker; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Bridges.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Chris E. Bridges in 2013; three sisters, Joanne McGill, Linda Fisher and Galinda Burton.

Willard Eugene “Gene” Bell, 70, of Mitchell, passed away on Wednesday July 12, 2017, at 1:46 a.m. at the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He was born in Bedford on Sept. 6, 1946, to Omar and Helen (Spoonmore) Bell. He was a graduate of Mitchell High School with the Class of 1965. Gene married Sandra Payne Bell on May 14, 1988 in Bedford and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was a member of the Mitchell V.F.W No. 250, and the DAV. He was a retired security guard from BNL High School.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Bell of Mitchell, three children, FaLanaya Bell of Mitchell, Robin Klemm of Florida and Ronnie Bell; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Phipps and Pauline Sanders and one brother, Ralph Bell, all of Bedford; and a half brother, Larry Phillips of Springville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Springville and Pekin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Bell, and a half brother Marvin Bell.

Sarah Jane (Reuter) Crandall, age 77, of New Jersey and formerly of New Castle, passed away Thursday morning, July 13, 2017, at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home in Bridgewater, N.J.

She was born Dec. 20, 1939, in New Castle, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Eunice (Harp) Reuter. She was a homemaker most of her life but many years ago she had attended the Ball State Teachers College.

Sarah Jane is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Crandall of Marengo, Ill., and Amy Jane (husband-Joe) Baratta of Gladstone, N.J.; two grandchildren, Alex and Caroline Baratta; one sister, Jo Hannah Edwards of Bedford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, George L. Crandall Jr. on April 8, 2013.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., today at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Springport.

Mary A. Baker, 96, of Bedford, died at 3:05 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born Jan. 8, 1921, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Thomas Rankin Bair and Nellie Gertrude (Ramsey) Bair. She married Charles H. Baker on July 6, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2005.

She first worked at Yuba Steel where she handled payroll. She then worked at Hale’s Furniture and later retired from Pacific Finance. She was a homemaker and caregiver to many.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford and the Red Rose Women’s Circle. She was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the Class of 1938.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was a devoted and loving wife to Charles and enjoyed her family and grandchildren. She delighted in having family meals and holidays at her home.

Survivors include a son, Keith Baker of Bedford; a daughter, Linda L. (Baker) Smith of Bedford; grandchildren, Stacy (Baker) Gilmore and husband Bob, Erika (Baker) McKinney and husband Ryan, Jordan Baker and wife Juliana Yanez, Bryan Smith and wife Jenny, and Lori D. (Smith) Day and husband Curt; great-grandchildren, Riley Day, Kinley Day, Evan Day and wife Lindsey, Dravan Smith, Hannah Baker, Bailee Gilmore, Payton Flynn, Lucas McKinney, Ava McKinney and Aspen Baker Yanez ; a great-great-granddaughter, Pyper Lintz; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Cowels of Campbellsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Born June 2, 1923, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Everett T. and Ruth Grace (Batchelor) Harris. He married Mary Lucille Barnett June 27, 1943, and she preceded him in death Feb. 14, 2008.

Gene retired from Smith Transfer Company, Inc. in 1986, and was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 89. He had been a member of Spring Mill Squares, Stone City Squares, and the Flying Hoosiers Motorcycle Club.

Gene graduated from Mitchell High School in 1943, and was a member of Gulletts Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children, Marieta Kay (Terry) Chastain of Mitchell, Larry Eugene (Sherry) Harris of Mitchell, Tawnya Sue (Kelly) Daugherty of Orleans, and Edward Lee (Sherry) Harris of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dorothy Irene Robinson of Speedway, and Edward Ray Harris of Greenwood.

His parents; wife; son, Bruce Lee Harris; and sister, Sylvia Grace Grubb, preceded him in death.

Tyrone F. Browning, 75, of Solsberry, Indiana, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2017, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

He was born to Charles F. and Goldie A. (Boofer) Browning on July 7, 1942. He married Carolyn JoAnn Cain on January 27, 1967, and she survives.

Tyrone was of the Christian faith and a retired millwright of Local 1076. Tyrone was also a Mason at Stanford Lodge #73. He loved his sons, grandchildren, his pets, Maggie, Jake, and cat Bud, and cutting wood.

Tyrone is survived by his wife; three sons, Thomas and Billy (fiancee, Marsha) Browning at home and Donald (Anjee) Browning of Hobbieville; grandchildren, Heather and Shane Browning of Bloomington, Cole Postell of Hobbieville and Seashell Chorley of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Constance Crane of Oolitic; along with several nieces and nephews.

Marilyn June (Gilbert) Harrell

June 22, 1930 — July 14, 2017

On July 14th at 6:45 a.m. Marilyn “June” Harrell went to be with Jesus.

“June” was born June 22nd, 1930 in Bedford, Indiana in the home of her parents, Maurice Emerson “Dick” and Mabel Clark Gilbert, just a few houses away from where she and her husband lived at the time of her passing. She graduated a proud Oolitic Bearcat in 1948 without ever missing a day of school in twelve years! On June 27, 1948 she married Ralph Harrell and after a honeymoon at the Haven of Rest on Hwy 50 W, they set up housekeeping in a homestead they purchased with a down payment of a 1938 Oldsmobile coupe. Much to her disappointment, June’s sporty ride with her new husband was scaled down to a 1936 one ton flat-bed Dodge truck but they loved their new home.

June’s beloved Ralph survives along with two daughters, Su Lynn “Suz” Frederickson of Bloomington and Beth (Larry) Mize of Martinsville and the Mize children Lezli (Steve) Phallen of Worthington, Ohio, J.R. (Gretchen) Mize of Matthews, NC and Caron (Burke) Minsley of Boulder, CO. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Jack and Sloan Phallen, Beckett Mize and Evalyn and Felix Minsley.

June was preceded in death by her parents, and in 1948, a brother twelve years her senior, Donald “Buddy” Gilbert.

June was grateful for the blessings of a loving family. She and Ralph planned memorable annual vacations and gatherings that provided a strong foundation for their home. As the Bible teaches, devout faith and servanthood to the Lord was June’s principal aim in life and through the years she served with many initiatives to further the mission of the First Church of God in Bedford. Also of great importance to June was her personal mission to welcome into her home friends, neighbors and co-workers with visits most often including a savory meal along with an invitation to church and the building of friendships. June is famous far and wide for her greathearted hospitality!

In the 50’s and 60’s June served as the business office for Ralph’s auto repair shop on the Oolitic Road and she often fixed big country breakfasts in the mornings for the whole shop full of workers! She retired from Sears Roebuck in Bedford with almost 30 years’ service to a job she dearly loved. Since she enjoyed all kinds of music, especially gospel and bluegrass, she and Ralph hosted countless music jam sessions in their home. She was a charter member and devotee for the Christian western band, The Limestone Cowboys, with whom Ralph played the guitar and mandolin, and rarely missed a show. Her favorite hobby was crocheting and she gifted many friends and family members with her beautiful creations.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the White River Lodge “family” of caregivers who made sure the final few months of June’s life were filled with laughs and special treats and most of all love with a special thanks to Meg Huffman whose presence alone guaranteed a big smile and “I love you” from June even on the most difficult of days! Donations to a special White River Lodge employee appreciation and thank you fund are encouraged for those who prefer making a meaningful donation in lieu of flowers. Richard James McIlvaine, age 56, of Bedford, Indiana and Riverview, Florida, passed away at his residence in Bedford early Monday morning July 10, 2017. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on Sept. 11, 1960 to Richard William and Lyla Ferguson McIlvaine.

Richard was very proud of his career as a Journeyman Carpenter with local #301. HIs work skills didn’t stop there as he was also a skilled mechanic working for Bender Vernal LLC in various positions. Richard thoroughly enjoyed time on his Harley, spending time with friends but mostly with his family.

He leaves behind his wife Angie McIlvaine; son Rob McIntosh and companion Laurie Baio of Forest Hills, N. Y.; grandsons Josh Bergdoll of California, and Bryant Crane (Marley) of Bedford. Also surviving are Richard’s mother Lyla McIlvaine, sister Joannne Nowland (Roger) of Mitchell, brother Robert McIlvaine (Cindy) of Indianapolis, sister Stormy Li (Lester) of Riverside, Calif., nieces and nephews Amy Brazzell (Brian), Tina Lee (Mike), Kelsey Smith, Karson Li, Connor McIlvaine, and Brianna McIlvaine; grand nieces and nephews Stephn, Kia, Brandon, and Rylee Brazzell, Lars Eller, and Cohen Lee.

Richard’s father, his son Joe McIntosh, as well as grandparents Lyle and Jeanette Ferguson, and James and Adele McIlvaine predeceased him.

Born June 23, 1932, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Edward Walter and Grace (Kerns) Fuhrman. She married Edward F. Heichelbech Jr. on July 8, 1950, and he preceded her in death.

She was a nurse, a homemaker and later worked at the Crane Naval Depot. She was the owner of the “Cider Shop” in Needmore. During their marriage, Ed and Alma enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Weeki Wachee, Fla.

She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, baking, dolls, and genealogy. She kept very good family history records. She will be remembered as a beautiful, sweet and loving Christian woman who will be missed by many.

Survivors include a son, Jon Heichelbech, and wife Judy of Bedford; a daughter, Pam Cornett and husband Roger of Clayton; four grandchildren, Crystal (Johnny) Adams, Casey (Lisa) Cornett, Jamie (Scott) Nikirk and Adam (Jill) Heichelbech; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Marlene Lucas.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Gary Zakian officiating. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, July 15 and from noon until the service on Sunday at the mortuary.

Virginia Mae (Hamilton) Ramey, 87, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at her residence.

Born Sept. 7, 1929, in Campbellsburg, she was the daughter of Ermil Ray and Bessie (Lawyer) Hamilton Sr. She married Gene Ramey Sept. 5, 1962.

Virginia retired from Duke Energy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and was a former member and officer of the Gamma Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa. Virginia was a 1947 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Ramey of Mitchell; son, Jay Ramey of Mitchell; grandson, Dillon R. Ramey of Bloomington; and sister, Ruby Jeanette Gause of Florida.

Her parents and siblings, Walter Eugene Hamilton, Ermil Ray Hamilton, Jr., Roger David Hamilton, and Lois Lorene Hamilton, preceded her in death.

Dennis Ray Fry

Dennis Ray Fry, 70, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Methodist Hospital of complications from heart disease.

He is survived by his sons, Andy and Chris; and his daughter, Katie; his sisters, Susan and Laurie; his brother, Jeff; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; a granddaughter (Simone) and many close friends.

Dennis was born and raised in Bedford, the son of Ray and Phyllis (Robertson) Fry. As a child, Dennis excelled in 4-H, science, and music. A self-taught guitarist, he was a member of the Kinsmen, an acoustic folk band. He grew up attending and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church.

After graduating as valedictorian from Needmore High School in 1964, he attended Indiana University, graduating in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Biology.

From 1969 to 1972, Dennis served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a medic. While serving he met Linda Reddington, a nursing student at IU. After a brief courtship, they were married in Indianapolis, where he lived the rest of his life. While in Indianapolis, he attained a Master’s of Science in Cellular Biology and Biochemistry from Butler University while working as a food inspector at the Indiana State Board of Health. In 1977, two years after the birth of his first child, Andrew Michael, and one year before the birth of his second child Christopher Ray, Dennis was hired as a Quality Control specialist at Standard Brands, which later became Nabisco Brands. He worked for Nabisco until 1991, advancing to Director of Technical Services.

When Nabisco was purchased, Dennis opted to leave the company to become an entrepreneur. His first business, Monument Circle Travel, built on a lifelong passion for exploring the world and had an office overlooking Indianapolis’ historic Soldiers and Sailors Monument. During this time, he welcomed his third child into the world, daughter Katherine Alexandra, with Mary-Kathryn Joyce in 1993.

His next venture, which eventually became known as Tastemakers International Foods, combined his knowledge of travel and food science into a business that took him on adventures across the globe. During the 1990’s, Dennis helped develop the first margarine plant in newly capitalist Poland, worked with prune growers in the south of France, and consulted extensively in Argentina and Russia.

The early 2000’s were marked most notably by Dennis’ involvement in product development for food companies in Asia. He immersed himself in learning how to create savory flavor, developing broth formulas for Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese companies. His signature product, concentrated chicken broth, is the first of its kind in the world, and has sold across Asia for nearly a decade. In the last years of his life, he worked closely with his sons to bring the product to the U.S. market, where it is now sold under his own Tastetopper brand name, in partnership with the Golden Howard company in Taiwan.

Dennis was especially proud of his travels to Asia and fascinated by the different cultures he encountered. A lifelong learner, he was able to acquire basic proficiency in the Chinese language, which he would often employ to the amusement of recent immigrants in restaurants across Indianapolis.

A child at heart, possessing a fierce intellect and a kind, gentle soul, he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Mount Pleasant Christian Church with Pastor Jeff Hudelson officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

She had been employed at Wal-Mart.

She was born in Iowa on Sept. 18, 1927, to Roy and Opal Stevens. She married Edwin J. Rottet on March 7, 1970, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1978.

She was a member of the Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in Bedford and was a homemaker.

Survivors include four children, James McKee of Bedford, Curtis McKee of Bedford, Wanda McKee of Mitchell and Steven Trent Rottet of Pendleton; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and one sister, Sara Clendening of Ellettsville.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Garnett; and two sons, Bruce Dale McKee and David Mel McKee.

Born Aug.13, 1948, in Indianapolis; she was the daughter of Robert B. Wright and Loretta Violet DeWitt.

She was a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Library Science.

Ann worked as a Music Teacher in Kokomo, a Suzuki Piano Teacher in her home, a Reference Librarian at Johnson County Public Library in Greenwood, Condominium Manager at Hidden Village in Sarasota, Fla., and Cataloger at Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Fla.

She was inspired in music by her Aunt Ellie, a music Teacher, Ann was a classical pianist. She played in pit orchestras for Butler University, Indiana University Opera, and Footlight Musicals. Recently, she conducted and played violin in the Venice Community Orchestra. Throughout her life she was an avid swimmer, walker, and bicyclist.

Surviving are her spouse, William Finn; son Kevin and wife Tara; grandchildren Malcolm and Dorothy Finn; son, Nathan and wife Ricarda; sister, Mary (Wright) Williams; brother, Robert Lee Wright; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Indianapolis and Tunnelton area.

She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, and Believer’s Fellowship Church in Okeechobee, Fla. She was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed painting with her friends and watching IU basketball.

Tammy was a licensed practical nurse at Mitchell Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and her dogs, Avery and Bella.

She was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Bedford, the daughter of Wayne and Marjorie (Malott) Sears. She married Larry David Abner on Dec. 22, 1962, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Medora, and he survives.

She was a homemaker, a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Leesville and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Surviving with the husband are two sons, Pleas Sidney (Melissa) Abner of Bedford and Andrew Boyd (Linda) Abner of Palmyra; nine grandchildren, Sophie, Claudia, Claire, James, Morgan, Olivia, Isabelle, Asher and Fletcher; two brothers, Mike Sears of Medora and Dean Sears of Bedford; one sister, Jenny Underwood of Shoals.

Norma Joreen Stipp, 88, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at the IU Health Hospice House, surrounded by her family.

Norma was born August 30, 1928, in Lawrence County and was the daughter of the late Ray E. and Arteena V. (Perry) Goodman. She was a 1946 graduate of Needmore High School and had attended Ivy Tech for Nursing. Norma was a homemaker and later was a caregiver, taking care of her husband until his passing and after that others that needed her love and care.

Norma was a longtime member of the Whitehall Holiness Church, where she served as Treasurer for 30 years and was the pianist. Norma’s favorite thing to do was to attend church and serve the Lord. Norma also enjoyed gardening and loved to care for the beautiful flowers she grew each year, and she enjoyed hummingbirds.

Norma married Rev. Stanley Harold Stipp, and they enjoyed 39 years of marriage until his passing in 1985. They had 7 children, all of whom survive, Vickie Van Meter (John), Monte “Buddy” (Penni) Stipp, Kathy (Wayne) Zwicky, Mark (Robin) Stipp, Philip (Vicky) Stipp, Mary (Ronald) Koontz and Carol (Steve) Axsom. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Kerri Jean, Chris (Kim) Paquette, April Nellis, Chad (Amy) Cain, Aaron (Amber) Zwicky, Keeley (Joshua) Nichols, Lora (Phil) Gray, Chad (Valerie) Umphress, Travis (Shannon) Stipp, Trayton (Andrea) Stipp, Kaitlin Koontz, Ronnie Koontz, Shannon (Javier) Sprigatis, Shane (Kacie) Axsom and Shawn (Leslie) Axsom. Also surviving are 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Hardwick; brothers-in-law James (Karen) Stipp, Michael Carr and William Bush; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Norma in death were her husband, Rev. Stanley Harold Stipp; parents; two sisters, Bonnie Bush and Ann Carr; granddaughter Joni Marie Cain; grandson-in-law Jeff Jean; and brother-in-law Vestal “Butch” Hardwick.

Services for Norma will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Pastor Justin Jessup and Rev. Buddy Perry will officiate the service, and burial will follow at Pleasant Run Cemetery in Lawrence County.

Dorothy J. Daugherty, 89, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at White River Lodge, Bedford.

Born Sept. 22, 1927, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Charles and Betty (Lawson) Stader. She married Frank Harvey Cooper, on Nov. 17, 1943; he preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1993. She married Wayne E. Daugherty on Dec. 14, 1996; he preceded her in death on June 11, 1999.

Dorothy was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; the St. Vincent Altar Society; and the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus. She worked as a cook at Mitchell Manor for over 12 years, retiring in 1987. She also worked at White River Lodge.

Surviving are one son, Charles Cooper and wife Anita of Bloomington; two daughters, Juanita Root and husband Chuck of Bedford, and Rosetta Hawkins and husband Harold of Bedford; grandchildren, Tammy Buechele and husband Kenny, Michael Cooper, Jason Cooper, D’Andra Allen and partner Roger Michael Art, Pamela Horton and husband David Joe, Debra Wright and husband Theron, and Richard Hawkins and wife Rhonda; great-grandchildren, Christopher Pavey, Andrew Buechele, Tyler Buechele, Meikina Buechele, Joshua Wright, Justin Wright, Kayla Abel and husband Seth, Macy Lynn Horton, Ellie Marie Horton, Matthew Wright and fiancé Lacy Dalton, Brandon Hawkins, Ryan Hawkins, and Jerrod Hawkins; great-great-grandchildren, Adeline Rose and Everett Lee; and close friends, Bev, Debbie and Jane.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Cooper; husband, Wayne Daugherty; two brothers, Thomas Stader and Charles W. Stader; and two children, Harvey Anzel Cooper and Betty Cooper, both in infancy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes. Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Jason Cooper, Michael Cooper, Tyler Buechele, Theron Wright, Matthew Wright and Richard Hawkins.

Dale L. “Butch” Hall, 70, of Bedford, died at 7:13 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born Aug. 16, 1946 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Floyd F. Schulte and Elizabeth O. (Stancombe) Hall. He married Debra K. Carmichael on March 18, 1983, and she survives.

He retired as a senior electronic technician at NSA Crane. He was a member of the Leesville United Methodist Church where he served as trustee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Debra of Bedford; three sons, Daniel Lee Hall and wife Dawn M. of Norman, Joseph Martin Hall and wife Nechole of Leesville and Joshua Carmichael Hall and wife Natasha of Leesville; seven grandchildren, Levi, Luke and Mady Hall, all of Martinsville, Jacob and Autumn Hall, of Leesville and Nala and Indie Hall of Leesville; two stepgrandchildren, Emma York and Luke Martin of Norman; and a brother, Junior Schulte of West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at the Leesville United Methodist Church with Pastor George Browning and Pastor Rob Kirts officiating.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the church where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

Dr. Medhat Helmy Girgis, 83, of Bedford died at 8:18 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Oct. 12, 1933, in Tunta, Egypt, he was the son of Dr. Girgis Abdel Messiah and Blanche. He married Monda Aziz on Sept. 17, 1964, and she survives. He was a long-time physician at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital and a member of Tabernacle of Praise in Bedford.

Survivors include his wife, Monda, of Bedford; three children, Dr. Kamal Girgis and wife Shawna, Micky Girgis and wife Angela and Moira Girgis Nikirk and husband Jeff, all of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Vonya, Ramzi and Zahra Girgis, Bryden and Colten Girgis, Sutton and Seavor Roach, Miley and Macy Nikirk; and two brothers, Dr. Talaat Girgis and Nashat Girgis of Alexandria, Egypt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 7, at Sherwood Oaks, Bedford. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Frank F. Hughes, 88, of Bedford, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at his residence.

Born Sept. 27, 1928, he was the son of William R. and Goldie Mae (Van Deventer) Hughes. He married Dorothy Elvira Stewart on Feb. 7, 1947, and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2015.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene and Operating Engineers Union No. 181. He was very active in his church and was a bee keeper.

Survivors include two sons, Samuel R. Hughes of San Antonio, Texas, and Frank Keith Hughes and wife Susan of Corinth, Texas; two daughters, Darlene Hughes and Jeanette Foreman and husband, Keith, all of Bedford; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Jackie Lee Hughes; a great-grandson, Ryan; four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, at the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Paul Whiteford and the Rev. Carl Gilmore officiating. Burial will follow in Hanson Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

James M. Tow Jr., 63, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the home of his mother.

Born Oct. 11, 1953, in Lawrence County, he was the son of James M. Tow Sr. and Betty J. (King) Tow.

James was a stone carver and a 1971 graduate of Mitchell High School.

Survivors include his son, Tracy White of Bedford; daughter, Jessica Thorton of Mitchell; mother, Betty Tow of Mitchell; grandchildren, Catalina White, Selena Thorton, LaKayla Thorton, Audrey Thorton and Jacob Peyton; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Angela Shifflett of Mitchell and Bonita G. Wagner of Mitchell.

His father; nephew, Jeremy Steele; and great-nephew, Britan Holt, preceded him in death.

Gloria H. Shepherd, 87, of Avoca, passed on peacefully at 8 a.m. on June 24, 2017, at Mitchell Manor. She is safe and sound in Heaven with the Lord

Born on Nov. 30, 1929, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was the daughter of Jose and Rafaela Herrada. Gloria attended Sacred Heart Church while living there.

She was formerly married to Jose Jesus Escobedo and Robert H. Johnson, and they survive. She moved to Indiana over 50 years ago and later married Harold Shepherd. He preceded her in death.

Gloria worked at Visteon for several years. After retiring, she enjoyed yard sales and shopping. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include her children, Maria Cavazos of Austin, Texas, Jose J. Escobedo Jr. and wife Irma of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ricardo Escobedo and wife Lollie of Corpus Christi, Texas, Carlos Escobedo and wife Kathy of Bedford, Diane Nicholson and husband Barney of South Carolina, Rosendo “Rock” Escobedo and Karlynn of Bedford, Debbie Johnson Myers and husband Lanny of Bedford, and stepson Robert H. Johnson and wife Darlene of Tennyson; her brother, Robert “Bobby” Santoya of California; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Shepherd; sister, Linda; and brother, Manuel “Meme”.

A private burial will be conducted at a later date by the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes.

Mychell “Shelly” Lynn Berry, 48, of Bedford, formerly of Logansport and Colorado Springs, died at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Garden Villa.

Born March 31, 1969, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Ralph LeRoy Berry and Karen Mychell Quinn. She has been a resident of Garden Villa for 37 years and has participated in the Special Olympics.

Survivors include her mother, Karen Mychell Quinn of Mitchell; one sister, Jacqueline Guyer and husband Paul; one brother, Philip Berry and wife Tina; nieces, Amanda Berry, Meredith Berry, Peighton Guyer, Arielle Guyer, Sydney Berry, and Hannah Berry; a great-nephew, Braydon; and a great-niece, Paisley.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph LeRoy Berry.

Karen Ann Roberts, 69, of Bedford, passed away at 12:49 p.m. June 30 at Kindred Hospital South in Greenwood, IN.

Born on May 20, 1948, in Terre Haute, she was the daughter of Kenneth F. Roberts and Rosalie J. (Brooking) Roberts. She retired from Edward D. Jones in Bloomington.

Surviving are her mother, Rosalie Roberts of Bedford; sister, Linda K. Roberts of Mason, OH; brother, Mark Roberts of Ludlow, KY; and a stepdaughter, Holly Elkins of Bloomington, IN. She was preceded in death by her father.

James M. “Mike” Kinser, age 82, of Bloomington, died Friday in IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born December 13, 1934, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Isaac and Flossie Kinser. He retired as a timekeeper for the Bloomington Postal Service. James was a devoted father and family man and has been married to the love of his life for 62 years, Alice (Maners) Kinser, to whom he was married on November 13, 1954, in Jeffersonville. He was a general handyman and loved to solve different kinds of puzzles. He was a faithful member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Kinser, of Bloomington; four daughters, Mabel (Bob) Harden, of Ellettsville, Faye (Jeff) Elkins, of Bedford, Sherry Kinser, of Indianapolis, and Treva (Don) Sciscoe, of Bloomington; one brother, Bill (Linda) Kinser, of Bloomington; one sister, Judy Alexander, of Franklin, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Julia Eads, Jennifer Harden and Donnie Sciscoe III, all of Bloomington, and Jayden (Amanda) Elkins, of Owensburg; and two great-grandchildren, Gracie Eads and Jaxon Elkins.

James was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Kinser; his mother, Flossie (Covey) Kinser Sherfield; three brothers, Isaac Kinser, Jr., Edward Kinser and Larry Kinser; one grandson, Jeffrey Harden; and one granddaughter, Angie Elkins.

The funeral service will be held at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St. in Bloomington, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., with Pastors Jud Sears and Charles Robert Harden, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Ted W. Anderson, 57, of Bedford, died on Sunday, June 25, 2017, in California.

Born on June 22, 1960, in Bedford, he was the son of William Tom Anderson Jr. and Marcia Sue (Langston) Anderson.

He was a lifelong resident of Bedford, graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, and held an Associate’s Degree in Diesel Mechanics from Vincennes University.

Although he was currently working in California, he was employed by local company, Turner Contracting, Inc. as a heavy machine operator. He was the owner of Anderson Auto Repair in Bedford.

Ted was a lifetime participant in Lawrence County 4-H as: a 10-year 4-H member; Fair Board member; and proud uncle to his nieces and nephews as they have participated in 4-H throughout the years.

He enjoyed, and was a long-time participant in, Lawrence County football: NLCS Athletics, including all 4 years at BNL; and played as a youth, and coached as an adult, in the Boys Club/Pop Warner program.

Ted loved family get-togethers, was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed fishing, and playing golf and horseshoes. Any of those times spent with any one of his many friends, or family members, was a special life event for him.

Surviving are his mother, Marcia S. (Langston) Anderson of Bedford; three brothers, Mike Anderson and Jeff (Barbie) Anderson, both of Bedford, and Greg (Mistie) Anderson of Bloomfield; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Anderson; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Frieda Langston; paternal grandparents, Bill and Margaret Anderson; step-grandmother, Roberta Anderson; uncle, Max Langston; aunt, Margy Anderson; and cousin, Robin Anderson.

Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel with Sherman Thomas officiating.

Frona E. Taylor, 86, of Bedford, died at 7:45 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born June 29, 1931, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Homer and Bessie M. Stigall Pace. She married Herman E. Taylor on Sept.16, 1950, and he died on Sept.19, 2016.

She was a member of Life Tabernacle in Springville.

She retired from Dunn Memorial Hospital as a laundry supervisor.

Survivors include; one son, Leo Taylor and wife Angie of Springville; three daughters, Brenda Enochs of Bedford, Nancy Kelley and husband Brian of Avoca and Margaret Barnes and husband Bob of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Brian Enochs and wife Jennifer, Lisa Merry and husband Chris, Jodi Sproull and husband Tim, Jana Morales and husband Joe, Brent Taylor and wife Inga, Brandon Taylor and wife Rosa and Jessyca Taylor, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Donna Pace and Naomi Pace; and one brother-in-law, Roger Siedl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Michael Herman Taylor; three brothers, Leo (Shorty) Pace, Charles H. Pace and Jesse D. Pace; and one sister, Margaret Siedl.

Jennifer (Hearth) Szatkowski, 52, of Bedford, died at 8:29 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.

Born March 21, 1965, in 29 Palms, Calif., she was the daughter of Bobby and Karen Sue (Hatfield) Hearth. She married Roger Szatkowski on Feb. 8, 2013, and he survives.

She was a loving mother and housewife. She was a member of the First Church of God.

Survivors include, her husband, Roger of Bedford, three sons, Zachary Kirkman, Juan Kirkman and Fernando Kirkman, all of Bedford; her parents; one sister, Sabrina Spradley and husband Troy of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Bobby Hearth Jr. and wife Lisa and Joel Hearth and wife Sheila, all of Bloomington; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 3, at the Bedford First Church of God with Pastor Travis Inman officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9 a.m. until the service on Monday at the church.
