Lois Kinser

Dec. 7, 1916 — Dec. 28, 2017

Lois (Smith) Kinser, at age of 101 years old, left her loving family, taking the hand of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 28, 2017.

To have known Lois was to know true love. She was born on December 7, 1916, to Alonzo and Maude (Morron) Smith. Preceding her in death were her husband, Kenneth Kinser, and one infant son, Randy Wayne. Lois was the eldest of four children and preceded in death by her sisters Glodean Turpen and Roberta “Tootsie” Hayes and one brother, Rex Smith, and also half-brother Bracie Morron and several other half-siblings.

Lois has five surviving children: Mickey L. (Karen), Bedford; Karl E. (Diane), Oolitic; Larry D. (Becky), Bedford; Terry R. (Mary Jane), Donica Rd., Bedford; Brenda Snapp (David), Bloomington. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Debbie VanDeventer (Doug), Barry Kinser (Mary), Tammy Alesia (Steve), Karla Fortner (Brad), Mark Kinser (Cindy), Tim Kinser, Amy Wible (Dale), Mickey Smith (Tracy), Michelle Fox (Jay), Jennifer Lewis (Darin) and Jeffery Kinser; twelve great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren and two others expected soon. The grandchildren all affectionately called her “Mamaw Ke-Ke.”

Lois was a member of the New Beginnings Church, formerly known as the Old Chapel Hill Church, which also served as her childhood school house.

She retired from RCA in 1979 but never stopped working. She continued to be a bookkeeper for Kinser Hardwoods until the age of 95. She was an excellent cook and famous for her gooseberry cobblers and rice dumplings, all served with love and hospitality! Many people dined at her table from all over the United States and other countries as far away as Australia. Everyone always left with a warm heart and a full stomach.

She traveled with her family on numerous trips including a cruise to the Bahamas and World’s Fair. She was a “lifetime achiever” and an avid reader, staying up with current events, staying mentally sharp and possessing eloquent penmanship.

Lois loved her family, friends and community but above all she was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and followed his word, always preferring others over herself!

The family wished to thank Dr. William Schmalz & Staff, Southern IN Care Hospice and Westview Nursing/CAN Staff who cared for her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37, Bloomington, IN 47401, with Pastor Mickey Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2018, and again from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Steven Dale Johnson

Oct. 3, 1935 — Dec. 28, 2017

Steven Dale Johnson, 82, of Bedford, passed away at 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at his residence.

Born Oct. 3, 1935, in Bedford, he was the son of Steve and Susan (Stigall) Johnson. He married Frances Yeary on June 5, 1955; and she survives.

Steven was a plumber and laborer for Triangle-Leahy, Bedford for 34 years retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Avoca Baptist Church and Laborer’s Local #741 Union.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Johnson of Bedford; son, Rickie Dale (Cindy) Johnson of Florida; two daughters, Connie Rebecca (Mark) Hamilton of Columbus and Barbara (Jeff) Ingle of Bedford; grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson, Anya Johnson, Zachary Paul Ingle and Christopher and Nicholas Neal; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Gracie Veach and Layla, Piper and Barrett Johnson; and a sister, Elsie Keller of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and one brother.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Pastors Lewis Stewart, Steve Wilkerson and Ron Hamrick officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

William David Foster

Nov. 5, 1932 — Dec. 27, 2017

William David Foster, 85, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Nov. 5, 1932, in Sterling in Crawford County, he was the son of David Hendrix and Margaret (Hall) Foster. He married Phyllis Genevieve Reynolds March 15, 1965.

William retired from Carpenter Body Works and was a member of Harvest Community Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Foster of Mitchell; daughters, Diane Davis of Springville, Pamela McCarthy of Enfield, Connecticut, and Tamara Kucera of Seattle, Washington; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and brother, Joe Foster of Milltown.

His parents and sister, Martha Begley, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Harvest Community Church with Pastor Robert Brown officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Billy C. Goodpasture

Sept. 28, 1931 — Dec. 27, 2017

Billy C. Goodpasture, 86, of Morristown, died Wednesday, Dec.27, 2017, at Morristown Manor.

Born Sept. 28, 1931, in Greencastle, he was the son of Cecil and Ruby (Tinkle) Goodpasture. He was called to the ministry and pastored several churches including Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene, Paoli Church of the Nazarene, St. Bernice Church of the Nazarene, Fort Branch Church of the Nazarene, and Triton Central Church of the Nazarene.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Air Force and attended the Free Methodist Church while in Bedford.

Survivors include a son, Jonathan W. Goodpasture and wife Delmy of Indianapolis; two daughters, Karen Ann Li of Riverside, California and Regina Wessic and husband John, of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Linda Moran of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Freda Blackard.

Funeral service will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor John Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Leatherwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the mortuary.

Francis L. Hirtz

Francis L. Hirtz, 89, of Bedford, died at 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at his home.

Born Aug. 25, 1928 in Campbell, Missouri, he was the son of John and Alice (Greene) Hirtz. He married Marcia May Adams on Nov. 26, 1949, and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2011.

He retired from Emperial Lumber. He was a devout Catholic and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid gardener and fisherman.

Survivors include two daughters, Delores Jeanne Bowen and husband, Rick of Missouri, and Janet Viner and husband Steve of Edmond, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Freddie Hirtz of Bedford and Charles Hirtz of Lynchburg, Virginia; three sisters, Veronica Camp, of St. Louis, Missouri; Monica Stratman and Delores McMunn, of Tecumsa, Oklahoma; and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hirtz of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, John David and Joseph Allen Hirtz; and five brothers, Donald, Jerome, Paul, Gregory, and Bill Hirtz.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Dan Hirtz and Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary where a rosary service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Roy V. ‘Bud’ Terrell

Roy V. “Bud” Terrell, 75, of Owensburg, died at 6:59 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Dec. 28, 1941, he was the son of Lee Roy Terrell and Caroline (Huff) Trowbridge. He married Barbara J. Hamilton in 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1991. He later married Cathy Harris in 1993 and she survives.

He retired from J.L. Wilson Construction.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy of Owensburg; three daughters, Barb Pridemore of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, Tessie May of Bedford and Chanity Thomas of Owensburg; two sons, Roy V. Terrell II of Bedford and Troy D. Terrell of Paoli; nine grandchildren, B. Jeanelle Wells of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, Danielle L. Pridemore of Lexington, Kentucky, Tasha Nicole Seaney of Bedford, Kayla J. Allen of Paoli, Troy D. Terrell of Paoli, Scott D. Hignite of Bedford, Aria Thomas, Julia Thomas and Chance Thomas, all of Owensburg; great-grandchildren, Rain and Coal Allen and Della Jean Wells; a brother, Mike Terrell of Bedford; two sisters, Janet C. Terrell of Greenwood and Kim Trowbridge of Bedford; a niece, Missy Roberts; three nephews, Jason Roberts, Mike Lane and William Duncan; great-nephews, Zach, Layton and Coby Bombrisk; great-nieces, Jessica Craig, Christen Goen, Ivy Goen, Josie Craig, Megan Lane and Meleah Lane; and a brother-in-law, Michael and Susan Beavers of Avoca.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Rodger Dale, Timmy Joe, Woodrow Richard and James Harold Terrell; a sister, Phyllis Terrell; and a nephew, Michael Lane.

Beverly Jean Silvers, 68, of Rome City and formerly of Bedford, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at 11:40 p.m. at Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.

She was born Feb. 13, 1949, in Yakima, Washington, to Roy Welker and Marie Taylor. Her parents preceded her in death.

She married Donnie Silvers Sr., and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2009.

Mrs. Silvers previously worked at Dura Automotive in Brownstown, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Surviving are a daughter, Tammie Hernandez of Greenwood; three sons, Donnie (Shelley) Silvers of Bedford, Corie (Tressy) Silvers of Bedford, and Bobbie (Jeff) Silvers of Rome City; six grandchildren, Aaron Silvers, Joey Silvers, Carissa Ramirez, Amanda Ramirez, Luis Hernandez, and Natalie Hernandez; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lynn (Farrell) Norman of Rome City and Jeannie (Jim) Quick of Georgia.

There will be no visitation or services.

Gary Murle Hostetter

Dec. 20, 1944 — Dec. 23, 2017

Gary Murle Hostetter, 73, of Bedford, died at 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at his residence.

Born Dec. 20, 1944, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Murle and Lucille (Hamilton) Hostetter. He married Wanda Allen on April 18, 1964, and she survives.

He retired from General Motors in 2000 after working 37 years as a sheet metal worker and in the employee assistant program. He had recently worked as a bus driver for the Bloomington Transit Company. He taught the Sheet Metal Class at Ivy Tech for one year.

He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church, the U.A.W. Local No. 440, the Bloomington Transit Union, and the Southern Indiana Airstream Club WBCCI. He was previously a private pilot owning his own airplane.

Gary enjoyed hunting, scuba diving, skydiving, caravanning and rallies with the Airstream Club, golfing, and fellowship with friends. He most enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Wanda of Bedford; one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Hostetter of Springville; one son, Christopher Murle Hostetter and wife Stephanie of Bedford; one granddaughter, Seirra Dawn Clouse-Hostetter of Springville; one grandson, Garrett David Hostetter of Bedford; daughter-in-law, Shelly Hostetter of Bedford; two sisters, Linda Chipman and her husband Frank of Indianapolis and Lucy Clensy and her husband Phil of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marilyn Hostetter; Seirra’s mother, Dawn Bartlett; a sister-in-law, Connie Parkes; and five brothers-in-law, Harold Allen, Jr., Bill Allen, Robert Allen, Larry Allen, and Johnny Allen.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Mount Pleasant Christian Church with Pastor Jeff Hudelson, and Pastor Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Gay A. (Tumey) Conner, 63, of Springville, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at the home of her daughter.

Born Nov. 5, 1954, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Willard and Martha (Owens) Tumey.

She was a member of the Fairview Community Church and IU Health Auxiliary, where she worked with Oncology Patients. She worked as an X-ray technician for Southern Indiana Pediatrics.

Survivors include, one daughter, Hope Elliott and husband Billy of Springville; two sons, Denton Conner and wife Susan of Bloomington and Brice Conner and wife Shawna of Heltonville; four grandsons, Blake and Sawyer Conner and Race and Jace Elliott; three step-grandchildren, Jordan, Andrew, and Krista Ward; one great-granddaughter, Linnleigh Ward; one brother, Rick Yaney and wife Inez of Fayetteville; and two sisters, Sherry McIntosh and her husband Doug of Bedford and Lela O’Bannon and her husband John of Owensburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents.

Wanita M. Hopkins

Wanita M. Hopkins, 80, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at 9:26 a.m. at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

She was born in Mitchell on June 16, 1937, to Lee Arnold Shoopman and Mary Louise (Roberts) Shoopman. She attended Mitchell schools and worked with special needs people at the LARC Center in Bedford.

Survivors include two sisters, Wilma Fox of Mitchell and Ruth Hawk of Orange County; one brother, Tom Akin of Lawrence County; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Janet Terry; and two daughters, Cindy and Debbie.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Cresthaven Funeral Home with Bonnie Meadows, officiating; burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from noon until the service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Harrison D. Collins

Dec. 12, 1940 — Dec. 24, 2017

Harrison D. Collins, 77, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at his residence.

Born Dec. 12, 1940, in Bedford, he was the son of Clyde B. and Eva (Bush) Collins. He married Pam Connell Dec. 22, 1962.

Harrison was a retired school teacher, and taught sixth grade at Campbellsburg in 1962 and 1963. He then moved to Tunnelton for 11 years and then to Shawswick. While at Tunnelton, he coached junior high and varsity sports. During the 1973-1974 season, he was the varsity cross country, baseball, track, and basketball coach, and led his team to the final game of the 1974 Bedford Basketball Sectional. After coaching at Shawswick, he became the first computer coordinator for NLCS, and served in that position until he retired in 1997 after 35 years of teaching. From 1985, he restored antique jukeboxes and soda machines. He became one of the leaders in that profession, and had customers all over the United States, including celebrities, and 12 foreign dealers in six different countries.

He was a member of the First Church of God and a past member of the NEA, ISTA, and NLEA. He was also an IHSAA basketball, baseball, and track official for 25 years. Harrison graduated from Mitchell High School in 1958, received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in 1962, and his master’s degree from Indiana University in 1966.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Collins of Mitchell; children, Tim (Teresa) Collins of Saint Cloud, Florida, and Rebecca Osborne of Mitchell; granddaughter, Mackenzie Osborne of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; sisters, Ann White and Betty Kirkman; and granddaughter, Samantha, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the First Church of God with Dr. R.C. Courson and Brother Kenny Dalton officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Dean Hawkins

Nov. 6, 1935 — Dec. 22, 2017

Dean Hawkins, 82, of Greenwood, formerly of Salem, passed away on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 6, 1935, in Bedford, he was the son of Goeffrey and Edna (Dodds) Hawkins. He married Wilma Simpson on Feb.13, 1982; and she survives.

Dean was a graduate of Purdue University, with a Master’s of Science in Agricultural Economics. He worked for the Federal Land Bank, and the State Bank of Salem, serving as Vice-President and President. After retiring, he served as President of State Bank of Morgantown. After retirement from the banking industry, he worked as a commercial appraiser.

He was a long-term member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and a member of the Farm House Fraternity at Purdue University.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Hawkins of Franklin; one son, John (Sue) Hawkins of Fredericksburg; one daughter, Susan (Michael) Keane, of Cartersville, Georgia; his first wife, Lena Hawkins; three step-daughters, Pam (Ed) Rosado, of Antioch, Tennessee, Paula Perkins, of Whiteland, and Penny (Kevin) Shreve, of McLeansboro, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Katie (Tom) Harmon, Drew Keane, Whitney (Tim) Mullins, Jordan Keane, Abigail Keane, Meghann (Gregory) Byerline, Krista Dean, and Jevin Shreve; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline Hayes and Margaret Whitted.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Hawkins; son-in-law, Rick Perkins; and one grandchild, Lindsay Keane.

LoRetta Jeanne Lane, 68, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. LoRetta was born April 1, 1949, in Bloomington and was the daughter of the late Dale and Ina (Duke) Terrell.

She worked for 40 years at Fairview Elementary School as a cook and a teacher’s aide. She was a babysitter to many children over the years and loved to do crafts and ceramics in the room adjacent to her house. She loved cooking and baking and made many meals and treats for the teachers at Fairview. She also sold Avon for several years.

LoRetta is survived by her three children, Rhea Dawn Lane-Rains (Daniel) of Solsberry, Ronald Lane (Debby Wesner) of Odon, and Randall Lane (Heather) of Bloomfield. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Danielle Pate (Josh), April James (Seth), Clayton Rains (Kayla), Ashton Lane, Randall Joseph Lane II, Emily Lane, Braydon Wesner and Addyson Wesner; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother Tony Terrell (Glenda) of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Eugene Lane; sister, Rickey Lovell; brother, Terry Terrell; and granddaughter, Alba Pate.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Herbert Blane Blanton, 69, of Paducah, Kentucky, formerly of Cloverdale and Mitchell, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center.

Blane was born in Bedford on Nov. 329, 1948, to Reginald and Eula Roberts Blanton.

He was a member of IBEW Local No. 1360 and worked as a construction electrician, installing power stations throughout Indiana. After retirement he drove a city transit bus in Greencastle.

He enjoyed golf, bingo, watching wrestling and especially being with his family. An animal lover, he leaves behind his dogs, Daisy, Jasmine, Koda, Sarge and Bella; and his cat, Tiger.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Celeste Allen Blanton; children, Demetrius Layne Patton and fiancee Jennifer of Paducah, Crystal Evonne Blanton of Paducah and Derek Alexander Patton and wife Cherie of Bedford; grandchildren, Chaise Patton, Dominic Patton, Elijah Patton, Jalin Burnette, and Madeline Patton and Molly Patton; and siblings, Sheila Knight of Mitchell, Marilyn Johnson of Bedford, Richard Gregory of Virginia, Michael Blanton of Missouri, Charles Blanton of Huron and Lloyd Blanton of Mitchell.

H was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Knight; and his parents.

Survivors include two sons, James (Rebecca) Todd of Pasadena, Texas and John Wayne Todd of West Monroe, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Angela (Bryan) Andrick of Bedford, Amber (Jim) Littlejohn of Mitchell and Shawn (Sarah) of Seymour; five great-grandchildren, Derek O’Neal and Brittany O’Neal of Bedford, Kayla (Aaron) Reed of Erlanger, Kentucky, Tanner Hawkins of Mitchell and Jacob Todd of El Paso, Texas; a brother, James (Gladys) Bailey of Bedford; a sister Linda Baker of Phoenix, Arizona; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty ended her banking career as a loan officer at Bank One in Bedford, where she worked for 32 years.

Robert L. “R.L.” Napier, 92, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 at White River Lodge, Bedford.

Born Aug. 17, 1925, in East Lynn, West Virginia, he was the son of Robert Lee and Norma Carolina (Mills) Napier.

Robert retired as a Vocational Education Teacher in 1977 from Wayne High School, West Virginia.

He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army, having been stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church. Robert was a member of the West Virginia Coal Miners.

Surviving are three daughters, Rosemary (Greg) Stanley, Nicole (Gary) Napier-Kurdelski and Robin (Adam) Bougher; two sons, Nick (Donna) Napier and Robert Nicholas Napier; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lonnie Napier; three sisters, Elsie Dean, Julia Adkins and Ruby Watts; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oakey, Benton, Jay, Tim and Shirley Napier, and five brothers in infancy; and sisters, Ella Napier, Floye Mills, Laura Staley, Pearl Marshall, Goldie Napier, Mary Lou Adkins and Delsie Adkins.

Born May 8, 1941, in Paoli, he was the son of Walter “Woody” and Ruth (Compton) Stevens. He married Sharon Stultz on Aug. 30, 1963, and she survives.

He retired from General Motors as a tool and die maker and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church.

Annabelle Brinegar, age 93, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 14, 2017.

She was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Lawrence County in Fayetteville to Beryl (Wagner) and John Atkinson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ivan H. Brinegar, former Mayor of Bedford and Executive Director of Indiana Association of Cities & Towns, and her son Philip Brinegar of Indianapolis.

Those who knew Annabelle would say she was a gracious lady who was kind, generous, humble and the consummate hostess for her many friends. She gave her love unconditionally and made an effort to seek and find beauty in everything and everyone.

She served as First Lady of Bedford for 12 years where she was actively involved in the community and Tri Kappa Service Club. She loved to play golf, bowl, and was a proficient bridge player. When she and Ivan moved to Indianapolis in 1963, she became a licensed realtor for Town and Country Realty where she found success identifying just the right home for each client she served. After retiring, Ivan and Annabelle spent 16 years living on the ocean at Hillsboro Beach, Florida, where she was a member of the Deerfield Beach Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her son Stephen (Patricia) Brinegar of Westfield; two grandchildren, Allison Brinegar of Westfield and Alec (Meena) Brinegar and great-grandson, Ames Brinegar, of Seattle, Washington.

Private services are being held.

Born Oct. 25, 1928, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Ernest L. (Tommy) and Nola A. (Root) Faris. She married Harold L. “Bud” Phipps and he preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1997. She later married Vic Wagner on Sept. 23, 2000.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School with the Class of 1947. She had been employed at Monroe Shine & Co. and was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Vic of Bedford; a son, Alan Phipps (Karen) of Bedford; a daughter, Lisa C. Phipps Campbell (Robert) of Bedford; a brother, Oran L. Josephine Elizabeth Lasley, 87, died on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017.

She was born in Corydon, to Albert and Ruby (Kiger) Hunter on Dec. 10, 1930, the youngest of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death. For 60 years she was the loving wife of Harold L. Lasley, who also preceded her in death, Sept. 11, 2010. They were married June 4, 1950, in Corydon.

Together they had three children, Harold Joseph (Joe) Lasley of Heltonville, Elizabeth (Pete) Borodach of Bedford and Donald (Don) Lasley of Williams. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Amber (Jeff) Muendel, Shelby (Sara) Lasley, Andrew Borodach, Sarah (Josh) Mullis and Craig (Maggie) Borodach; and great-grandsons, Brandon Borodach, Nick Borodach, Ashton Mullis and Tristan Hatfield; as well as, three sisters-in-law, Wanda Lasley of Bedford, Clarabelle Lasley of Corydon and Margie Lasley of Bradford; and many nieces and nephews.

Josephine lived in many places while Harold served in the Army, including Missouri, Kentucky, North Carolina, Arkansas, Germany and Tennessee, before retiring to Indiana in 1969, settling in Bedford. While living in Bedford, Josephine worked at many local businesses including, Grants, Penney’s, Delores Fabric Shop and H&R Block.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women (UMW) group.

Funeral service will be at noon on Thursday, Dec. 21, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home at 318 E. Chestnut St., Corydon. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery following the service.

Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Lee and Beulah (Bennet) Hollars. She married Morris D. Covey Sr. on June 15, 1957, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1999.

Billie was a full-time mother and grandmother.

She attended Calvary Temple Church in Kokomo, and Oolitic Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include one son, Bud Covey and wife Dee of Kokomo; two daughters, Connie Burgess of Kokomo and Lana Smith and husband Dave of Bedford; five grandchildren, Andy Covey, Kenny Fish, Kelly Baxter, Larry Baxter and Tonia Wolf; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Rosetta Baxter; one grandson, Brent Fish; four brothers, Ed, Andy, Otis and Orville Hollars; two sisters, Margaret Flynn and Elizabeth New; and a son-in-law, Dan Burgess.

Lanny Moutardier, age 74, of Okolona returned to his Heavenly Father Dec. 16, 2017.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1943, to the late Carlos and Marie Moutardier in Anneta, Kentucky. Lanny was a Class of 1965 graduate of Western Kentucky University.

He was a Chemist and a Senior Purchasing Agent for Rhône-Poulenc. He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a member of the Romeo’s Club.

Lanny was a family man; he was a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Wilma Rose (Murphy), Fordyce, 85, of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2017.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl McGrady (Tom) and Lynn Reppert (Brent); her granddaughter, Heather Koivisto (Edward Lunny); great-grandson, Damian Lunny; her stepgrandchildren, Megan Stine (Bob), Thom McGrady, Tammie McGrady, Robin Engelman (Tom), Erin Flyer (John) and Lauren Smith (Sean).

Born in 1932 in Bedford, she was predeceased by her parents, Anna Marie (nee Cummings) and Paterson Murphy; her sisters, Margie Hamilton and Barbara Little; and her brothers, Harold, Merlin, Charles, Larry and Fred Murphy.

Wilma retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in 1993 where she had been employed as a head secretary.

Wilma enjoyed her faith and was very involved with church activities. She loved reading, enjoyed music, ballroom dancing, helping people, taking care of animals, and participating in the Lutheran Knolls Community including taking care of the community cat, “Snowball,” that she loved dearly.

She and the family would like to express a special “Thank you” to Madlyn Santivasi of Lutheran Knolls for all of her help and friendship throughout the years.

Samuel Idrogo

Retired Colonel, United States Air Force Reserves, Samuel Idrogo, was born in Laredo, Texas on February 15, 1935. He was born to a family from humble beginnings with three sisters and one brother. As a young child, Colonel Idrogo was always known to spend a lot of time with model airplanes. He attended Laredo Martin High school and had a strong interest in mathematics and science courses. He was a distant runner on the track team and was selected as ROTC Cadet of the Year and voted “Best All-Around Male.” In his senior year, Colonel Idrogo served as Class President. He was selected as the Executive Officer of the Junior ROTC as well as President of the Pan American Student Forum. He was one of two seniors selected to attend Texas Boys State for outstanding students. He also became President and co-founder of the Laredo Junior LULAC (The League of United Latin American Citizenship) from 1953-1954. Colonel Idrogo graduated high school in 1953 in the top 5% of his class. In his high school yearbook, he was selected to be, “One Most Likely to Succeed.”

Colonel Idrogo attended The University of Texas in Austin and earned academic scholarships. He carried a class schedule of 18 to 21 hours a semester and worked 6 days a week between the hours of 5:00pm to midnight as a waiter, cook and manager for a hamburger chain during his junior and senior college years. In 1958, Colonel Idrogo graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Poor eyesight kept Colonel Idrogo from flying so he became an aircraft maintenance officer. He separated from active duty and began a prestigious civilian career at Kelly Air Force Base in 1957 as a Material Management Directorate GS5 Aerospace Engineer.

While building and raising a family, in 1964, Colonel Idrogo was promoted Aerospace Engineer Supervisor at Kelly Air Force Base and enrolled at St. Mary’s University at night to work on his Master’s Degree in Business Administration, which he received in 1969.

In 1972, Colonel Idrogo was promoted to Supervisor Mechanical Engineer and in 1973 his title changed to Supervisor of Quality Assurance Specialist. He held other various management positions; he was the chief of the Quality and Reliability Assurance Division and the chief of the Technical Services Branch. In 1976, Colonel Idrogo was promoted to GS-15 as Chief of Aeronautical Design and Performance Analysis Section, the first Mexican – American to hold that position. He managed over 100 engineers, equipment specialists, and administrative personnel. He was named as the Executive Assistant for external affairs to the Commander, San Antonio Air Logistics Center in January 1984 and he served in this positon with the distinction until he retired in June 2000.

Colonel Idrogo enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin and completed his doctorial coursework and dissertation requirements towards his PhD in Public Management and Operations Research. He graduated from numerous federal executive courses, to name a few, such as Legislative Operations Roundtable for Executives, The Executive Developmental Seminar and The Senior Executive Seminar. He was also a graduate of the Air War College (Seminar) and of the first-ever USAF Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program which culminated with an Office of Personnel Management SES certificate.

Colonel Idrogo served over 30 years combined active and reserve time in the United States Air Force. He served with the rank of Colonel in a General Officer position, as the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander of the Logistics Operations Center, Headquarters, Air Force Logistics Command, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He received numerous awards including the Civil Service Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Legion of Merit.

An article by Ross Day, Lackland AFB Public Affairs officer, quoted Major General Bielowicz, the Air Logistics Center commander, “As one of the finest individuals you’ll ever know, he is a quiet, unassuming professional, our Kelly version of E. F Hutton. When Sam speaks, people listen because he is one of the wisest and most caring leaders you’re ever encountered. Having been a part of Kelly over half its existence, Samuel Idrogo himself has become a kind of Kelly Institution; a wonderful professional who represented the finest Kelly has to offer. Samuel Idrogo’s life time ambition was to pilot the aircraft.”

Along with his professional career, Colonel Idrogo was actively involved in community affairs as board member of the United Fund, Guadalupe Community Center and the Board of Trustees of the San Antonio library. He was also Chairman of the Board of San Antonino Credit Union now known as Credit Human. Other service includes: member Target ‘90/Goals for the San Antonio Development Committee, the San Antonio Private Industry Council, the Mechanical Engineering Visiting Committee at the University of Texas at Austin, and was a charter member of the Advisory Committee of the College of Sciences and Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Colonel Idrogo also served as President of the Kelly Management Association for the year 1981-82, as Vice President of the Board of San Antonio Neighborhood Youth Organization, Vice President of the San Antonio New Schools Development Foundation, and as Board member of the San Antonio Education Foundation, chaired by his long-term friend Major General (Ret) Richard Smith. He was active at St. Matthew Catholic Church along with many more organizations.

Over the years, Colonel Idrogo received numerous outstanding performance awards and letters of appreciation.

In addition, Colonel Idrogo was an avid runner of marathons and participated in the New York and Boston Marathons on several occasions. He placed in the Boston Marathon in his age group. He later became the race director of the San Antonio Marathon. He served as a military liaison to the San Antonio Marathon Organizing Committee from 1988 to 2000. He served on the Board of the South Area Council of the S.A. Greater Chamber of Commerce and the Senior Games Organizing Committee.

He was married on January 25, 1959 to Sylvia Garza Idrogo (surviving spouse), and had 6 children; Inez (Rick) Yaney of Bedford Indiana, Sammy (Peggy) Idrogo of San Antonio Texas, Yvette (Tim) Manning of San Antonio Texas, Michael Idrogo of San Antonio Texas, Sandra (Brian) Winters of San Antonio Texas, and Richard Idrogo of San Antonio Texas. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Born April 8, 1993, she was the daughter of Mark and Valerie (Parkes) Jenkins. Haley was a graduate of BNL High School and had completed one year of college. She had worked at Burger King, Judah Junction and Mr. C’s.

She attended Mount Pleasant Christian Church and Owensburg Baptist Church.

George Frederick “Fred” Harris, 86, of Bedford, died at 4:25 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Westview Nursing and Rehab.

Born May 17, 1931, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Pete and Alice (Compton) Harris. He was a graduate of Tunnelton High School with the Class of 1949 and a veteran of the Korean War. He married Edith M. Jewell on March 25, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 21, 2015.

He was a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and delivered newspapers for the Times-Mail. He was a member of the White River Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Georgeanna Harris and Angela Myers and husband Brian, all of Bedford; brother-in-law, Leon Harris; a grandson, Dakota Myers of Bedford; a granddaughter, Kristy Myers of Seymour; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; brother and sister-in-law, Harland and Carol Harris.

Nancy K. Pace, 72, of Bedford, died at 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born Sept. 1, 1945, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Morrell and Ruby (Terrell) Pace. She graduated from Shawswick High School and Anderson University. She was formerly a teacher in the Mitchell Community School System and volunteered at the Church of God Youth Camp and Bedford Little Theatre. She retired in 2007 from the Division of Family & Children Services, State of Indiana, but continued to substitute teach. She had also been an Adjunct Instructor at Ivy Tech.

She was a member of the Huron Church of God and attended Fairview Community Church.

Nancy was an avid lover of dogs. She was a member of the White River Humane Society, the Sierra Club and the National Education Association. Nancy loved traveling and attending sporting events of her many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a brother, Morrell Pace Jr., of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews, Cindy Martin (Duane), Jane Vorndran, Patti Dorsett (Terry), David Bunch, Morrell Pace Jr., Theresa Craft, Nelson Pace (Crystal), Pam Korvela, Sandy Young (Marty), Dennis Pace, Jeff Pace (Bonnie), Karl Pace, Kevin Pace (Wanda), Tammy Hamilton (Bobby), Greg Pace (Andrea) and Aaron Pace; many great- and great-great nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Susie Roberts Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Robert, Everett Mack, Jack and Roy Pace; a sister, Doris Bunch; and two nephews, Philip and Randy Pace.

Donald E. Abraham

Donald E. Abraham of Bedford passed away at his home on Dec. 8, 2017, at 89 years of age.

He was born on the 25th of November 1928, to parents Albert and Sophie Abraham, where they farmed in Douglas, North Dakota, and raised their six children. He was a graduate of Douglas High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era.

In 1954, he married Audrey Ann Flowers of Lakeland, Fla., making their home in Valparaiso, where they raised two children and remained until retirement.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; five older brothers, one older sister, and his wife in 2009. Two sons survive, Jeffrey of Lexington, Ky., and Kent of Bedford.

Donald worked in the steel industry of northwest Indiana. He always remained proud of his North Dakota heritage. He and his wife enjoyed local friends in the Bedford community and sharing good cheer with the Saturday evening gang at Hobby’s Inn. He was thankful to remain in his home, mostly independent and free of illness.

Memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford.

Mildred Callahan, 87, of Bedford passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at her residence.

She was born in Lawrence County on Jan. 10, 1930, to Walter and Erma (Kern) Rainey. Mildred married Everett L. Callahan on April 1, 1950, in Lawrence County, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1996.

Mildred was a retired cook with the North Lawrence Community Schools; she was a graduate of Williams High School and a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bedford.

Survivors include two children, Jamie (Larry) Ritter of Bedford and Jim Callahan of Bedford; three grandchildren, John (Stacy) Ritter of Bedford, Chad (Sharon) Ritter of Bedford and Magen (Neil) Craig of Indianapolis, four great-grandchildren, Chase Ritter, Austin Ritter, Reese Ritter and Reid Ritter; her special friend, Bob Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.

Born July 4, 1958, in Bedford, he was the son of Carl Donald Goldsby and Wanda L. (Ridenour) Murphy.

He had worked as a stone cutter for Indiana Limestone.

Surviving are his mother, Wanda Murphy; sister, Terry Goldsby; nieces, Skyler M. Goldsby, Jamie Kung and Andrea Ferguson; nephews, Chad Underwood and Joe Fiely; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

James William ‘Jimmy’ Baxter

James William “Jimmy” Baxter, 55, of Bedford, passed away on Dec. 13, 2017, at his residence.

He was born in Lawrence County on Jan. 29, 1962, to William Earl and Phyllis A. (Nickless) Baxter. Jimmy attended North Lawrence Community Schools and was of the Pentecost faith.

Jimmy was disabled. He also worked Kern Concessions and K & K Concessions. Jimmy loved working with the Kerns who also took him in at a young age. They traveled to different fairs and festivals; they served cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones for over 30 years. He loved atmosphere and laughter of the children. He also did other jobs for the Kerns and Darlene McSoley, and Jimmy is yelling “get your popcorn here” up in heaven now.

Survivors include two daughters, Karan L. (Bradley) Burton of Mitchell and Jennifer L. (Scott) Mills of Mitchell; and grandson, Bradley William Ray Burton of Mitchell

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beth Ann Owen; longtime friend, Darlene McSoley, and Jim Kern, who was like a father to him.

Private burial services were held on Friday at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Mary L. (Stuart) Bruner-Brown, 78, of Williams, died at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at her residence.

Born Dec. 2, 1939, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Ira Stuart and Mable Ann (Sexton) Capshew. She married Gerald Ray Bruner and later married John Brown and he preceded her in death.

She was a Senior Records Clerk at Indiana University in the Independent Studies Department, and a member of the Williams Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Bruner of Williams and David Bruner and wife Janette of Bloomington; grandchildren, Samantha McFarland, David McFarland Jr. and Kayla Bruner; great-grandchildren, Shelby McFarland and Maddison McFarland; and her twin sister, Martha Price.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Justin Kirby; and two brothers, William and James Stuart.

Clarence Lester Kirkman

Clarence Lester Kirkman, 93, of Greencastle, formerly of Bedford, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, in Greencastle.

Born Dec. 10, 1924, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Clarence B. and Clara E. (Wright) Kirkman. He married Helen JoAnn Moore on Sept. 11, 1946, and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2004. He later married Winnie F. Strunk on Jan. 12, 2005, and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2012.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II, where he was awarded the bronze star.

He retired as a truck driver for Sims Motor Transport in 1981. He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 654, American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, and a former member of V.F.W.

Survivors include two sons, Dwight L. Kirkman of Oolitic and Barry D. Kirkman and wife Karen of Bedford; four daughters, Diane Claycomb, Debra Vester and husband Paul, all of Oolitic, Denise Foulk and husband Tom of Florida and Dee Duncan and husband Harry of Bedford; 12 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; five sisters; and a son, Lester David Kirkman.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with John Lee officiating.

Jean Foddrill, 89, of Bedford, died at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at IU Health Hospice House.

Born Aug.19, 1928, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Fred “Jum” and Ethel (Burford) Brown. She married Charles D. Foddrill on Jan. 11, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1984.

She was a beautician for 20 and had worked in Dr. Mount’s office for 30 years retiring when Dr. Mount retired.

Jean was a member of the Leesville United Methodist Church.

She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids, attending every sporting event or activity she could. She loved working in the garden, cooking (her pancakes were famous), and she was an expert at canning anything from corn to green beans. She was always quick with a funny saying, and she loved to laugh. Anyone who knew her, knew her as “Gram” because she was everyone’s Gram.

Born July 29, 1987, in Lapeer County, Mich., he was the son of Eugene Baer Jr. and Colleen Aldridge.

Eugene was of Christian faith.

Born Oct. 10, 1962, in Bloomington, he was the son of Richard Higgins and Betty Irene Koontz. He married Tammy Gayle Barrett, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2011.

He was a maintenance worker for Cook Inc.

Survivors include his father, Mike Koontz and wife Kay; a brother, Kevin Koontz and wife Tammie; a daughter, Isabella Renee Richardson; a granddaughter, Lindsey Joann Richardson; and a stepson, Josh Richardson.

Dorothy Ruth Workman, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at her residence.

Born May 31, 1929, in Huron, she was the daughter of Fred and Osie Pearl (Hopper) Mundy. She married James Hubert Workman on Nov. 16, 1946.

Dorothy was a homemaker, a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ and enjoyed puzzles.

Survivors include her husband, James Workman of Mitchell; children, Marilyn (James Harkness) Workman of Mitchell, Mike Workman of Mitchell, Mark Workman of Mitchell, and Myra (Darren) Smith of Bedford; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Maxine Pridemore of Mitchell.

Her parents and siblings, Virginia Bundy, Frances Bosell, Thelma Mason, Herschel Mundy, and two in infancy, preceded her in death.

Donald L. “Leroy” Briscoe, 80, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Jan. 17, 1937, in Mitchell, he was the son of Ora Virgil and Hopal Vera (Matthews) Briscoe. He was married to Varda Jacqueline “Jackie” Kern on Feb. 16, 1957, and she preceded him in death Dec. 14, 1962. His second marriage was to Shirley (Walts) Hamilton on Nov. 20, 1964.

Leroy retired from Dana Corporation and was a member of Tulip Street Christian Church.

He enjoyed racing, woodworking, fishing and yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Briscoe of Mitchell; children, Diana (Larry) Caudell of Mitchell, Kevin (Cathy) Hamilton of Sardinia, Ohio, Denise (Mark) Riker of Bedford and Debbie Terrell of Bedford; grandchildren, Stephanie Oliver, Christie Bunch, Gearry Caudell, Bradley Hamilton, Michael Riker, Laura Hamilton and Samantha Terrell; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Robert (June) Briscoe of Bloomington, Bonnie Duncan of Bedford, Richard (Charlotte) Briscoe of Mitchell and Basil (Karen) Briscoe of Mitchell.

Della Sue (Beyers) Wildman, 84, of Louisville, formerly of Washington and Bedford, died Dec.11, 2017.

She was born March 3, 1933, in Lawrence County, to Lee and Ruth (Schreiber) Beyers, both deceased.

Siblings include Daniel Beyers and Joseph (Brenda) Beyers, all of Bedford, Blossom (Danny) Weddle of Evansville and Leah Beyers, deceased.

She married Aden W. Wildman (died Jan. 23, 1990) on Nov. 25, 1953, and they had five children, Gene (Diane) of Nashville, Tenn., Mark (Bonnie) of Valparaiso, Jerry (Jennifer) of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Jay (Rachel) of Washington and Lisa (Joe) Cooley of Louisville, Ky.

A homemaker, Sue was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and having committed her life to Christ at a young age, she was a member of the Church of Christ.

Grandchildren are Tiffany, Josh, Tyler, Ethan, Joelle, Baylee and Madison Wildman, and Alex, Jessica and Jennifer Cooley. There are three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews as well as her nephew and niece Paul and Phyllis (Wildman) Spencer, who provided extensive assistance over the last couple of years.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, and from 10 a.m. until the service on Friday at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals. Brother Ed Owens of Oolitic will lead the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15.

Shirley Y. Flynn, 82, of Bedford, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 at the I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born on Aug. 10, 1935, in Oolitic, she was the daughter of W. Glenn Butler and Lahoma F. (Hildum) Butler. She married Bennie Leroy Flynn on Jan. 19, 1952, and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1999.

She worked at Dollens Elementary School as a Title 1 Aide for 34 years, retiring in May of 2004, and later taught at Oolitic Christian School from 2004-2008. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church.

Surviving is her daughter, Susan Swango and husband David of Bedford; son, Greg Flynn and his wife Jeanna of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Amy Vaught, Kristy Spinks, Stephanie Leonard, Ashley Cook, Sarah Swango, Matthew Flynn, Michael Flynn; six great-grandchildren, Makenzie Spinks, Garrett Spinks, Averi Leonard, Seth Leonard, Meredith Cook, Grayson Cook; three sisters, Glenda Young of Norman, Bonnie Parkes and husband Larry of Bedford and Rita Anderson and husband Jim of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Linda Lou Aronson; one son, Danny Leroy, in infancy.

She was a production worker for Dura in Brownstown for 16 years, retiring in 1985. She attended the Freetown Church of the Nazarene.

Jeremy was a welder and a member of Victory Church in Washington. He enjoyed nature, especially hunting and fishing.

Robert G. Reynolds, 85, of West Lafayette, formerly of Bedford, passed away at 1:16 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at University Place in West Lafayette.

He was born May 22, 1932, in Lawrence County to Clarence and Helen (Pittman) Reynolds. Robert married Sue Anne Hewitt on Dec. 6, 1957, in Lawrence County and she survives.

Robert was an U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from the Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo, he also previously worked at WTTV Channel 4 and WLFI Channel 13 both in Indianapolis, and he was baptized in November in the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Anne Reynolds of West Lafayette; two sons, Charles (Janet) Reynolds of West Point and John Reynolds of Bunker Hill; grandson, Bob Reynolds of West Point; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Reynolds of West Point; and one brother, Larry Reynolds of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence Reynolds Jr., Dale Reynolds and Jerry Reynolds; and one granddaughter, Susan Reynolds.

Glen A. Crose, 62, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at Indiana University Health and Hospice in Bloomington at 12:30 a.m.

He was born in Anderson on Jan. 31, 1955, to Glennis Crose and Rheabelle Mary (Ashby) Crose.

Glen married Betty (Keesling) Crose on June 10, 2005, in Bedford, and she survives.

He was a Medical Technologist and had worked at IU Health in Bedford and St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, along with traveling medical companies.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Crose of Bedford; his mother, Rheabelle Mary Crose of Anderson; two step-children, Tiffany and Chris Price, both of California; one sister, Debbie Stout of Pendleton; and a niece and nephew, Erin and Nathaniel Stout, both of Pendleton. He was preceded in death by his father, and son Collin Crose in 2012.

Wilbur Lee Fields

Wilbur Lee Fields, 75, of Oolitic, died at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born March 8, 1942, in Trinity Springs, he was the son of Paul J. and Annabel (Taylor) Fields. He married Judith Ann Vaughn on Oct.15, 1966, and she survives.

He retired as General Supervisor of Production Control and Logistics from GM Powertrain in 2002. He was a major in the U.S. Army and Indiana National Guard and a graduate of Indiana University. He served as an Elder at Central Church of Christ. He was a member of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion, the Lawrence County Dulcimer Society and Quality Council at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital. He was an avid bicyclist who completed the Hilly Hundred many times. He served youth in many volunteer roles over the years, including scout master, coach, youth deacon and camp director at Spring Mill Bible Camp. He was one of the founders of the girls’ Oolitic Biddy Ball League.

His passions included photography, camping, canoeing, hiking, folklore, Civil War ­history and music. After Hurricane Katrina struck, he used his experience and training in management and logistics as a Red Cross volunteer in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Survivors include his wife, Judith, of Oolitic; his mother, Annabel, of Bedford; a daughter, Kristin Wintin and husband, Frank, of Bedford; a son, Garrick Fields and wife, Marsha, of New Albany; a grandson, Paul Fields, also of New Albany; a brother, William “Willie” Fields and wife, Wilma, of Bedford; a niece, Lisa Tran and husband, Quang, all of Bedford and a nephew, Scott Fields and wife, Dana, of Whiteland. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Central Church of Christ with Rick Leach and Jack Owen officiating. Hollis Reed ‘Buddy’ Embree

Hollis (Buddy) Reed Embree, 91, of Lansdowne, Virginia, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017.

Hollis was born in Williams to John and Cora. He was a graduate of Indiana University. Upon graduation, he moved to Vincennes where he was the personnel manager of the Reynolds Spring Company. He moved to the Chicago area in 1961 and became vice president of manufacturing for the Cracker Jack Company. In charge of not only manufacturing, but also personnel, he wrote and negotiated labor contracts.

Always striving to advance his career, he changed employers 10 years later and became vice­ president of the Unarco-­Leavitt Tube Company, overseeing production and personnel at multiple sites.

Buddy retired at age 55 and enjoyed travel, property investment and tennis, spending most of his retirement years in Florida where he also took up golf. A firm believer in sharing the wealth of his successes, he was a benevolent donor to those in need. In 2017, due to health-related issues, he moved to assisted living near relatives in Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Chloe, and by his brother, Sam. He is survived by his wife, Edna; his son, Dana (Janet); his brother, Michael (Christine); his grandchildren, Mark, Allison and Jeremy; his stepdaughter, Beth (Tim); and their children, Bennett and Lauren, and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be at the Cresthaven Cemetery, Bedford.

William “Bill” Lambert, 63, of Bedford, died on Nov. 17, 2017, at his residence.

Born March 23, 1954, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Marion Douglas and Roberta Jean (Hutchinson) Lambert.

Bill was a graduate of Bedford High School, class of 1972. Bill was retired from Bedford City Utilities and was known by his friends as “City Bill.” He was a longtime member of the Bedford Moose.

He is survived by his son, William Christopher (Heather) Lambert of Indianapolis; sister, Carol Blair of Bloomington; niece, Lindsay Blair; nephew, Nathan Blair; uncle, Lee Hutchinson of Bedford and several cousins and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kirby Lambert.

She later married Harold Wayne Pate on Dec. 13, 2008, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 2017. She retired as a line worker at RCA and was a farmer.

Rose Marie Berry Wildman, 76, of Vallonia, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at her home. She had been ill for six months. She attended the Church of Christ in Brownstown. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, camping, country western music, country cruises with her dog Roscoe and most of all, she loved spending time with her family and making iced Christmas sugar cookies with her grandchildren.

Rose was born on May 9, 1941 in Lebanon, Pa., to the late Joe & Cora Nicholas Lerch. She married George Berry, Sr. on Dec. 24, 1960 in Uniontown, and he preceded her in death on March 9, 2011. She married Warren Wildman on May 18, 2012, in Bedford and he survives. Other survivors include her children, Richard and Holly Berry, Vallonia, George and Kalli Berry of Medora, and Melissa and Dave Stevenson of Greenwood; grandchildren, Sarah and Donnie Strack, Nathan and Allison Berry, Caitlin and Jimmy Baker, Seth and Reagan Berry, Michael and Trey Berry, Steven and Page Berry, Holly and Anthony Carroll, Jon Berry, Mark and Tori Reynolds, Jaelyn Reynolds, Josh and Sam Stevenson; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Philip and Andrea Lerch and Joe and Mary Lerch, both of Lebanon, Penn.; two sisters, Aggie Buckmoyer and Beth and Paul Sweinhart, both of Lebanon, Penn.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a brother, John Lerch, a daughter, Dawn Berry and a granddaughter, Laura Jean Berry.

Born Oct. 12, 1931, in Lawrence County, she was the oldest daughter of Audrey Crane and Hazel (Hughes) Crane.

Alta retired from Whitney Tool Company in Bedford, was a graduate of Williams High School, a member of Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca and attended Grace United Methodist Church in Bedford.

Fields; also, nine great-grandchildren, Marissa, Danielle, Dom, Kaytelynn, Isaac, Kelby, Nolan, Molly and Benlee; two brothers, Bill (Delores) Crane and Bob (Lynn) Crane; and two sisters, Euretta Griggs and Cathy (Phil) Jenner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jerry Fields; brother, John Crane; and sister, Becky Pate.

Funeral service for Alta Mae Fields will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with burial following at Talbott Cemetery.

Edna Louise ‘Dolly’ Deckard

Edna Louise “Dolly” Deckard, 83, of Heltonville, died at 6 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at her residence.

Born April 17, 1934 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Everett and Truly (Fender) Sowders. She married Harold Deckard on Dec. 10, 1949, and he survives. She was a director of admissions at Oakland City College and office assistant at NWSC Crane.

She was a founder of the LARC Center and Sweet Owen County Association of Retarded Citizens. She was a volunteer at Spring Mill State Park and portrayed Mrs. Claus in Lawrence County for 21 years. She started Rusty’s Toy Chest, in memory of her son, providing toys to children in Lawrence and surrounding counties. She carried out missionary work in the Appalachians, was the director of the annual Heltonville Community Thanksgiving Dinner, and president of the Pleasant Run Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband, Harold of Heltonville; children, Robert E. Deckard and wife Nancy of Bloomington, Melanie Brooks and husband Ronald and William J. Deckard and wife Janet, all of Heltonville; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and was expecting her first great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Mattie Nicholson and husband Herschel of Heltonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rusty; a daughter, Rita Irwin; and six siblings, Laveda, Leonard, Thomas, Linville, Ada, and Luanna.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, in the Elm-wood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with God’s servants, Ronald Brooks and Tom Turpin officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Geneva M. Brown, 99, of Bedford passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at her residence.

She was born in Mitchell on July 24, 1918, to Cecil and Mary (Keller) Miller.

Geneva retired from GM Powertrain in Bedford in 1973 after 30 years of service, she was a member of the U.A.W. Local No. 440 in Bedford and the American Legion Post No. 33 Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Ingle of Bedford; son, Richard (Sheila) Brown of Bedford; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond “Chink” Miller and Morris “Buster” Miller; and one grandson, Michael Brown.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, at Cresthaven Funeral Home, burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Katherine Louise (Flinn) Williams, 94, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Johnson Christian Village.

Born April 5, 1923, in Fort Ritner, she was the daughter of Samuel and Mattie (Ollis) Flinn. She married Melvin E. Williams on Feb. 24, 1940; he preceded her in death on June 23, 2000.

She was a member of the Apostolic Faith Assembly.

Katherine was a homemaker.

Surviving are one son, Ronald (Sue) Williams of Bedford; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Flinn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; son, Kenneth Williams; three sisters, Juanita Eglen, Verna Bobb, and Irene Shepard; and two brothers, Hubert Flinn and Irvin Flinn, in infancy.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Dixon Chapel (Procter) Cemetery, with Pastor Kenneth Allen officiating.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes.

Betty M. (Kinder) Connerley

It is with deep sadness that the family of Betty M. Connerley, announces her passing on Nov. 8, 2017, after a long illness. Betty was a former resident of Lawrence County.

She was born on Nov. 4, 1927, in Williams, to William Ollie Kinder and Iva May Hall and was the youngest of seven children. She married Emil Dee Connerley on Nov. 9, 1943, he preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by five of her siblings, Cecil Kinder, Carl Kinder, Beulah Holsapple, Wallace “Pud” Kinder, Beryl Beeman; and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Wicks.

She is survived by a daughter, Penny Wicks (Michael); a son, Rickey D. Connerley; six grandchildren, Beth Anne Parsley (Curt), DeeAnna Smith (Mark), Teresa Dollins (Brent), Amber Offutt (Delbert), Claudia Roberts (Troy), Joshua (JD) Connerley (Adriane); 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Robert Kinder of Williams; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Connerley and her son, Zane Connerley (Sally) of Williams.

She will be lovingly remembered by her numerous friends, family and her extended family.

A memorial was held on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at Commerce Church of Christ in Commerce, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Heart Association or Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Trust.

Herman Leon Fish Sr., 79, of Norman, died Friday, December 1, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. at IU Hospice House.

Born July 30, 1938, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Everett and Mary Marie (Blackwell) Fish. He married Sallie Tanksley on June 29, 1957, and she preceded him in death on April 5, 2001.

He was a retired stoneworker from Elliot Stone Mill. Survivors include one son, Herman Jr. and wife Sherry Fish of Norman; one daughter, Shellie and husband Pat Hume of Norman; one brother, Roger Fish of Bloomington; and one sister, Phyllis and husband Larry Kinser of Bedford; five grandchildren, J.P. and wife Elizabeth Hume of Bloomington, Amber and husband Jason Burch of Mooresville, Tevin and wife Wendy Fish of Bedford, Tyson and wife Kyla Fish of Springville, and Brandi and husband Toby Webb of Bedford; thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation and service will both be held at Mundell Christian Church in Heltonville. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Service will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at Gilgal Cemetery near Heltonville. Arrangements were made with Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville.

Susan Whelan

Susan Elizabeth Himebaugh Whelan, 52, died at 6:15 p.m. Nov. 27 at her residence in Indianapolis.

Born Jan. 31, 1965, in Livonia, Mich., she was the daughter of William R. and Eleanor Schmedel Himebaugh. She married Lonnie Whelan Sept. 10, 1988, in Princeton.

She was a 1983 graduate of Orleans High School where she was a member and soloist in the marching band. She also marched with the Imperial Guard Drum and Bugle Corps of Evansville.

She earned her associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology from Vincennes University in 1985. She worked in the laboratory at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton and later at Covance research laboratory in Indianapolis.

She was a member of Tri Kappa in Orleans and Princeton and was a member of the Princeton Community Band. She enjoyed music, genealogy, reading and travel.

Survivors include her husband Lonnie Whelan of Indianapolis; mother, Eleanor Himebaugh of Bedford; brother, Andrew Himebaugh of Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Holly Whelan Woodruff (Mrs. Justin) and stepgrandchildren, Caitlyn and Jacob Williams and Cameron Woodruff of Chandler; and nephew and niece, Benjamin and Elizabeth Himebaugh of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A celebration of life will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Orleans Public Library.
