January 31, 2021 Robert Mayer Ellis Feb. 20, 1933 — Jan. 20, 2021 Robert Mayer Ellis of Bedford (formerly of Beech Grove and Bloomington), 87, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2021. Bob was born on February 20, 1933, in Lincoln, IL. He was the second son of William Spotswood Ellis II and Mildred Mayer Ellis. Bob was raised in a happy home by his uncle and aunt, Hardin and Irma Ellis. Bob married his dream girl, Janet Lee Morse, on June 10, 1956, and Janet survives him. Bob graduated from Atlanta (IL) High School in 1951 and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Oberlin College in 1955. He then entered the U.S. Army, serving as a medic from 1955-1958. Upon his discharge, Bob began a distinguished career as a biochemist at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis. He toiled tirelessly at Lilly for 35 years, retiring in 1993. While at Lilly, Bob worked on many high-profile projects, including his breakthrough research in developing the first artificial insulin, which has led to life-saving treatments for millions of people. Bob was quietly and rightfully proud of the impact his work has had on diabetics around the world over the last 60 years. Bob was even more proud of his family. He and Janet raised three wonderful daughters who survive him: Ruth Bryant (Mike) of Lee’s Summit, MO; Lynn Titche (Charlie) of Bedford; and Heather Kostella (Matt) of Verona, PA. Dad was extremely honored that his daughters chose science and education as their life pursuits. His constant encouragement and unending support of his children shaped his daughters’ lives (and their families’) immeasurably. Bob was even more gratified that his girls have carried on his and Mom’s Christian values and lifestyle. Dad’s devotion to his faith and dedication to service in God’s name will affect lives long after his passing. Dad also leaves six grandchildren who have been blessed by his loving ways: Dean, Amanda, James and Lauren Bryant; and, Miles and Isaac Titche. Amateur inventor, lover of animals and nature, strategic mower of lawns and snow-plower to all in his neighborhood – Bob never said “no” to a friend, family member or someone in need. Bob was giving to all, caring and quick to help. Emblematic of his love for others was his long, kind porch conversation with a complete stranger while Bob was having a heart attack, unwilling to leave a down-and-out soul when his own life was in danger. Bob was a long-time member of both Bethany Lutheran Church in Indianapolis and St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Bloomington (IN). His beautiful tenor filled many a chapel with glorious tones. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date, likely at his beloved second home, Lutheran Hills. Memories of Bob and online condolences may be shared at www.thefuneralchapel.net January 29, 2021 Dr. Guy Harold Waldo Jr. Oct. 13, 1925 — Jan. 27, 2021 Dr. Guy Harold Waldo Jr., 95, of Bedford, died at the IU Health Bedford Hospital on January 27, 2021. Born October 13, 1925 in Delaware County, he was the son of Guy Harold Waldo Sr. and Mary (Collins) Waldo. He married Judy (Ingle) Brown on June 11, 1989 and she survives, along with sons, Dr. G. Bruce Waldo (Laura Webb Waldo), Dr. Brian (Dr. Julie) Waldo and Dr. Chris (Laura) Waldo, stepdaughter, Lisa (Dr. Sandore) Zehr, stepson Barrie Brown, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, Gene, Howard, and Bill. Guy served as a US Navy corpsman aboard the USS Kidd during WWII. This service inspired him to attend medical school and he practiced medicine for many years in Bedford. In 1958, he and a small group of colleagues founded the Edgewood Clinic, which later merged with the Bedford Medical Center, and is now IU Health Bedford Hospital. Guy, a true romantic, enjoyed spinning his beloved wife Judy around on the dance floor. Renowned for his steak-grilling prowess, he found great enjoyment in conversations with family and friends around the grill. He was inquisitive by nature and a lifelong learner, always asking questions and seeking to understand. He enjoyed sharing his love for fishing and boating with his family and friends at their Bokeelia, FL condominium. His gentle demeanor and kind, loving heart were qualities that endeared him to all. Guy was also an avid fan of the IU Hoosiers and Indianapolis Colts and, while watching games, those around him would get a glimpse of his competitive nature. Guy’s remarkable presence will be missed by all. Private services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the Cresthaven Funeral Home with Reverend Jon Lineback officiating. Nikirk, 69, of Bedford, passed away at 11:07 pm on Monday, January 25, 2021 at his residence. Born September 11, 1951 in Bedford, he was the son of Walter Dallas Nikirk and Anna Lee (Chadwell) Nikirk-Hall. He was a laboratory manager at Visteon. Survivors include three sons, Jason Nikirk, of Bedford, Chad Nikirk (Tina) and Jeremy Nikirk, both of Ft. Wayne; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Deborah Underwood (Jim), of Springville; a brother, Terry Nikirk (Brenda), of Baytown, TX; two daughters, Angels Chastain (Randy), of Bloomington and Camyla Nikirk, of New Albany, IN; several nieces and nephews. Orten, age 77, long-time resident of Syracuse, Indiana, passed away at Core Nursing Home in Bedford. He was born April 7, 1943 in Kentucky to Ernest and Mammie Orten. He was of the Baptist faith and worked as an auto mechanic. Surviving to cherish Eric’s memory are his daughters, Rhonda Waggoner, Carolyn Rollins and Rebecca Larkin; 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Gilkey; and one half-brother, Timothy Orten. Eric was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Jennifer Garza and two in infancy; two brothers, Harold Orten and Jerry Orten; and two sisters, Martha Wellman and Betty Graff. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.fergusonlee.com John Edward Horton June 19, 1933 — Jan. 26, 2021 John Edward Horton, age 87, of Norman, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at St. Andrews Nursing Home in Batesville. Mr. Horton was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Bedford. John loved going to church and his good friend, Ivan Hunter, took him to church for many years. Born on June 19, 1933, in Lawrence County, John was the second son of Campbell and Delcie Kindred Horton, both of whom preceded him in death. John was married to Ava (Pat) Mullis for 18 years. After Pat’s death, John lived at the Chateau and St. Andrews in Batesville. He loved to sing gospel music and often sang with groups that came to entertain at the nursing homes. He was also the “Cornhole Champion” at both nursing homes. John was a hard-working farmer, who worked alongside his father for many years. After his father’s death, John kept the farm going and enjoyed raising corn, soybeans, and taking care of beef cattle. Survivors include two sisters: Callie Sue (Merrill) Butler of Brownsburg and Mary Lou (Gary) Smith of Harrison, Ohio; three sisters-in-law: Betty Horton of Brownsburg, Grace Horton of Norman, and Josephine Horton of Norman; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Horton was also preceded in death by three brothers: Maurice Lee Horton, Thomas Leon Horton, and Charles Melvin Horton. January 28, 2021 James Eugene Gentry Sept. 05, 1938 — Jan. 26, 2021 James Eugene Gentry, 82, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital. Born September 5, 1938 in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Thomas Woodrow and Dorothy Marie (Lawson) Gentry. He married Rose M. Jones March 22, 1982. Jim retired from Regal Beloit. He was a member of the Campbellsburg Christian Church and served as deacon. He was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors and also enjoyed hunting and golfing. Jim loved spending time with family and friends. Jim was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and served on the U. S. S. Bennington. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 250, had been chaplain, and served the local veterans’ community by driving veterans to their appointments at the VA hospitals. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Rose M. Gentry of Mitchell; children, Diana Bollhorst of Mitchell, Dawn (Howard) Briscoe of Oolitic, Tonya (Larry) Higgins of Seminole, Florida, Toni (John) Blackmore of Newberry; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Lynn) Gentry of Live Oak, Florida, Ronald (Mary) Gentry of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews. His parents; sons, Jerry Carter, Danny Carter, and Steve Carter; great- grandson, Jacob Whalin; and siblings, Michael Gentry, Sherry Combs, and Kaylene Evans, preceded him in death. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Ervin and Miram (Westlake) Fuson. He married Mary Jo Butoryak on July 13, 1990 and she survives. Steven was a graduate of North High School in Des Moines and Northern Iowa University, majoring in English. He started and built the school at Padanaram, where he was school master from 1972 until its closing in 2000. He was a writer and publisher of two spiritual books. He loved his wife, his son and his granddaughters, family, and the people of Padanaram. He lived his life to do the Lord’s work. Surviving to cherish Steven’s memory are his wife, Mary Jo of Williams; one son, Samuel (Maddison) Fuson; two granddaughters, Ariah and Autrey Fuson; two brothers, Michael (Cynthia) Fuson and Keith Fuson; one sister, Karen (Terry) Fuson-Wells; along with several nieces and nephews and loving friends. Drumb May 22, 1963 — Jan. 26, 2021 Monica E. Drumb, 57, of Oolitic, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Bedford. She was born May 22, 1963 in Lawrence County to Larry Bailey and Judy (Nicholson) Todd. She married Dave Drumb on April 11, 1992 and he survives. Monica was a graduate of Bedford-North Lawrence High School and a Certified Nursing Assistant at White River Lodge. She attended Stone Gate Faith Center. Monica is survived by her husband, Dave; one daughter, Breanna (James) Ratkovich; one son, Josh (Tamara) Patton; nine grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Mason, Uriah, Allie, Nevaeh, Aubrie, Austin, and Maddie; and one sister, Maria (Shannon) Foddrill. Robert was born on Aug. 14, 1943, in Bedford, to his parents, Marguerite and Robert Harry Bugh. He has two elder sisters, Sonnie Curtis and Karen Dillard. He moved to Georgia where he was an evangelist and pastor for many years. He graduated from Christian Life School of Theology with his Masters of Theology, Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry. He retired from Walking in the Light Ministries Inc. and was a member of World Changers Church International until his death. Robert was married to the late Brenda K. Bugh and Wanda Bugh, mothers to his lovely children. Robert was a devoted person to his friends and took care of everything and everyone from Haiti to Africa. He was a great philanthropist and will be missed by all. Until his death he was a doting pawpaw to his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert is survived by his wife, Christina Gordon; his wonderful children, Kenny, Duke, Micheal, Lynette, Matt, Immanuel and Christian; and his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born on April 27, 1931 in Bedford to Walter R. Seidle and Dorothy C. (McDonald) Seidle. He married Mina E. Kindred on February 10, 1951 and she preceded him in death on December 18, 2012. Rudy was a retired Draftsman from WF Meyers Company in Bedford, he was a former US Marine serving in the Korean War, he was a 1950 Graduate of Oolitic High School and member of the East Oolitic Community Church, he loved his family, working in his yard and watching his birds. Baker, age 52, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Bedford. She was born in Bloomington, the daughter of Roy and Wanda (Collins) Vaught. She married Tim Baker and he survives. Regina was a dietician at Garden Villa, of the Pentecostal faith, and a graduate of the CCS Christian School of Bloomington. Surviving Regina are her parents, Roy and Wanda Vaught of Crane; her husband, Tim Baker of Bedford; one daughter, Sasha Probasco of Bedford; two sons, Jamie Baker (Courtney McDonald) and Cody Baker, both of Bedford; four grandchildren, Isabella Baker, Kylar Probasco, Grayson Probasco and Dawson Baker; and three brothers, Scott (Jill) Vaught of Crane, Michael Vaught of Colorado and Adam (Delta) Vaught of Crane. She married Claude “Tub” F. Banks on March 1, 1947 and he preceded her in death. She retired from Ford, where she was an assembler. She attended Grace Baptist Church. Born October 12, 1943 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Sam and Grace (Pritchett) McDonald. She married Gary Meadows and he preceded her in death. She worked at RCA in Bloomington. She was a member of the Bedford Loyal Order of the Moose. Survivors include a sister, Donna Woods of Bedford; sister-in-law, Sandy McDonald of Mooresville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; a daughter, Delita Inman; a sister, Sue McDonald; two brothers Keith and Kent “Mac” McDonald; and a nephew, Steve Webb. Born December 9, 1928 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Joseph Ashcraft and Blanche (Wright) Ashcraft. She married Robert Allen on October 6, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2010. Margaret worked in electronics at Sarkes Tarzan, and then retired from NSWC Crane. She was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church, 50 plus year member of Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a huge basketball fan, and loved following her grandchildren in their sports. Survivors include her daughter Debbie Lewis and husband Jim, of Springville; son Jeff Allen and wife Linda, of Bedford; grandchildren, Sarah Folmer and husband William, of Oolitic, Tyler Lewis and wife Kayla, of Oolitic, Jared Allen and fiancé Jordan Dager, of Indianapolis; Allen Lewis, of Springville, Jenna Allen, of Spain, Jorie Allen, of Chicago, John Robert Allen, of Bedford; great- grandchildren, Jamey Folmer, Molly Rose Folmer, Reed Lewis, and Evan Lewis; one sister Ruby Easton, of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. Born September 30, 1954, in Bloomington, he was the son of Frederick Austin “Bud” and Ruby Violet (Brassine) Pritchett. He married Trena Gaines September 6, 2014. He retired from General Motors with 45 years of service. Michael enjoyed playing the guitar, woodworking, and the outdoors. He was a member of Mt. Olive Church of Christ and Stonebelt Stargazers. Michael was an amazing father, husband, papaw, and friend. He was loved by so many people and will be dearly missed. Surviving are his wife, Trena Pritchett of Mitchell; children, Stephanie Renea Pritchett of Oolitic, Jennifer Michelle (Matthew) Grunewald of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Maria Elizabeth (Nathan) Mull of Evansville, Brent Michael (Hannah) Collins of Mitchell; 11 grandchildren; sister, Kiva (Bill) Gratzer of Bedford. His parents were Charles Everett and Ethel Marie (Reynolds) Chastain and brothers are Charles Lee “Chocky” Chastain of Mitchell and Larry Dean Chastain, deceased. His wife, Nellotie “Nellie” (Porter) Chastain, survives. Married Feb.15, 1969, their lives were blessed with son, Sam (Ashley) Chastain, and daughter, Carol Marie (Troy) Lobosky, who blessed them with eight grandchildren. Cody Everett Chastain and Zane Patrick Lobosky welcomed their Papaw into Heaven. Surviving grandchildren are Samantha Dawn Chastain, Taylor Scott Lobosky, Caleb Wayne Lobosky and fiancé Darian Corra, Mitchell Ryan Lobosky, Emma Lynn Chastain, and Silas Wayne Chastain. Butch was a loyal, dependable, lovable father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He loved to talk about vehicles, attend races, tell stories, and spend coffee time with his friends and fish with his grandkids and brother. Butch Chastain was a big man with a very big heart and always reached out to others. Each job he had, he loved, giving it his entire heart, especially driving the school bus. He loved his country, giving two years of service in Vietnam. He taught his children and grandchildren that same love and respect. He always removed his hat, covering his heart for the flag. His great heart was for the City of Mitchell and the citizens of the city. His 25 years in the Police Department and eight years as the Mayor were spent encouraging the betterment of every aspect of the city. Edwin Lee Howell Edwin Lee Howell, known as “Buck” and “Bucky” to his friends, passed away January 18, 2021 in Ellettsville, Indiana, at the age of 74. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Ed grew up in Mitchell, Indiana, graduating from Mitchell High in 1964, before obtaining his Bachelor’s in Business from Indiana University in Bloomington. He earned an M.Ed from IU in 1969, MBA from IU’s School of Business in 1980, and a Certified Public Accountant license. Ed was the first director of the Bloomington Work Release Center, and later served as the City of Bloomington’s Human Resources Director. He worked at Bloomington Hospital as a management engineer, director of mail and printing, and director of patient accounts and collections. He also volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Ed had a great wit, and was a fabulous story-teller. He loved returning to Mitchell and Spring Mill State Park where he worked as a teen. Ed loved cats and dogs, and collected pocket knives, Volkswagen beetle convertibles, and records. He enjoyed reading American history and mysteries, playing snooker, watching boxing, and Honda motorcycles. Pounds Oct. 01, 1931 — Jan. 21, 2021 Jimmy R. Pounds, 89, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021. He was born in Clay, Kentucky, the son of Carmel and Evelyn Pounds. He married Ruth Gilliam on Oct. 3, 1954, and she survives. To this union, they were blessed by their daughter, Deborah. His mother, father and sister, Peggy Sandefur, are deceased. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Deborah; granddaughter, Erika Thomas; and grandson, Tanner Thomas. His extended family includes son-in-law, Bill Weddle, and his daughters, Ashleigh and Aubrei. He received a BA degree from Evansville College and MS and EDS degrees from Indiana University. He was an educator for 37 years and served as Principal of Bedford Junior High, Needmore Elementary and Tunnelton School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. His service included 40 months as a radar man aboard the USS McDermut DD677. His military decorations were Good Conduct, National Defense, China Service, Korean Service, United Nation Medals, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and Combat Action Ribbon. He served as a former member of the Bedford City Council, Lions Club, Bedford Urban Enterprise Association, and Education Chairman of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce. He was a life member of Indiana University Alumni Association, IU Varsity Club, National Association of Destroyer Veterans, and Indiana State Teacher Association. He attended Highview Baptist Church. At age 16, Evelyn worked at Yale Restaurant, her Dad’s business while attending DuPont Manual High School. She was proud to win “Best dressed” award on Red and White Day. She graduated Manual High School in 1960, she then attended Spencerian Business College. Evelyn married Gary Ochs in 1962, loved being a mother, was involved with Welcome Wagon, Tri Kappa Sorority and enjoyed being a floral designer at Hirscher’s Flower Shop. Evelyn married Errol Bugh in 1977, worked at Ford, moved to Georgia, and worked at Flowers by Cheryl. Then she owned and operated Tifton Floral and loved it! She retired and moved back to Louisville to be closer to family. On a vacation trip to Florida, Evelyn purchased a vacation home. She married Al Waite in 2013, she enjoyed playing cards and dinners with her sisters, aerobics classes, playing Bunco and fun gatherings with her Gal Pals, friends Ruth and Laura, and her puppy Willow. Evelyn was a life long Christian, already had her wings as an angel here on Earth, and now has her Heavenly wings with her Lord and Savior. William Richard “Bill” Prewitt Sept. 01, 1933 — Jan. 14, 2021 William Richard “Bill” Prewitt, 87, of Pekin, formerly of Bedford and Seymour, passed away on Jan. 14, 2021. Bill was an Air Force veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from General Motors in Bedford where he was a die maker. Bill was born in 1933 to the late William M. Prewitt and Bertha L. (Findley) Prewitt in Seymour. On Dec. 24, 1951, he married Norma J. Butler who preceded him in death. On June 23, 2007, Bill married Gerrie Caudill Kaps in Elizabeth. He was a former member of Valley Mission Nazarene Church in Bedford. He is survived by his wife Gerrie (Kaps) Prewitt; two children, Jeffery (Terri) Prewitt and Joan (Craig) Bishop; and three stepsons, Jeffery (Dana) Kaps, Brad Kaps and Steve (Karen) Kaps. Born May 03,1954, Bruce was the oldest child of Clyde and Mildred Buzek, Indianapolis, Indiana. Growing up, he became an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying camping and boating. As an aspiring Eagle Scout in high school, Bruce established a Scout troop in rural Indiana dedicated to these two favorite activities. After graduating from Indiana University, Bloomington, Bruce continued what would become a lifelong interest in building, opening his own business, Buzek Construction, in 1989. Bruce was well respected for construction, design and project management with “his hands and heart”, like his father before him. Bruce eventually built his own home in the forested land beyond of the city of his business in Bedford, Indiana. Bruce lived his life for his daughter and grandsons, as well as his family and friends. He was always up for an adventure and loved spending his time in nature, especially with those he loved. He chose his final resting place nearby at Pinkston Hill, facing west and opening onto the vista he so loved and would visit often. January 15, 2021 Allen Lee Zehr Nov. 30, 1935 — Jan. 14, 2021 Allen Lee Zehr, 85, of Bedford died Jan. 14 in Indianapolis Methodist Hospital after a two-week battle with Covid-19. He was born Nov. 30, 1935 in Foosland, Ill., to Harold and Alma Zehr. On June 22, 1957, he married Carol Miller, and she survives, along with 2 sons: Dr. Sandore Lee (Lisa) Zehr of Bedford, Stuart Douglas (Kendalee) Zehr of Skillman, New Jersey; 1 daughter Stacy Ellen (Mark) Hoffman, of Florissant, Missouri; 6 grandchildren: Kristen(Jeremy), Kelsey(Justin), Adam(Michelle), Krizia, Aaron and Abby; and 5 great-grandchildren: Gibson, Emry, Jarrett, Drake and Maris. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, three brothers and three sisters. A sister, Hazel Yoder of Goshen, Ind., survives. Allen spent his life helping others and was known for his kind, gentle spirit and sense of humor. He was a man of faith, serving with his wife Carol doing mission work in the 1950s in Puerto Rico, where he worked on projects to help increase dairy production and develop agricultural infrastructure to improve the standard of living. He was a long-time active member of the Bedford Free Methodist Church and active supporter of charitable projects. He was a psychiatric social worker and therapist and worked for many years as director of the Bedford Mental Health Center. He later founded the psychiatric counseling service at Bedford Regional Medical Center, where he worked until retirement. He was good-natured, well-loved and self-deprecating. He enjoyed spending time with his grand- and great-grandchildren, bragged about his children frequently and savored every phone call, visit, meal and basketball game he shared with them. Tim was born on October 22, 1986 in Bedford, Indiana to Rita Y. Martin and Wayne Meyer. Tim and his family moved to Spencer when he was two. Tim graduated from Owen Valley High School in 2004 with Scholastic Honors, and was a proud member of L.E. Huffman DeMolay in Spencer. Tim attended Indiana University and was on the Deans list. He then received two Associates Degrees from IVY Tech Community College. Tim worked for many years at Menards in Bloomington where he quickly moved up to a Management position. Tim ended his working days at Lower’s HVAC, due to health concerns. Tim loved his children, Collin (age 4), Aubree(age 1), more than life itself. Tim also enjoyed cooking, playing golf, watching sports, and was a loyal Cubs and Bills fan. Tim’s best friend and companion of 12 years, his little dog, Addie, was also by his side until the very end. Born March 29, 1944 in Kentucky, he was the son of George and Dorothy (Root) Gregory. He married Sharon “Sue” Stigall on December 3, 1965 and she survives. He was a retired tool and die maker for General Motors, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of U.A.W. Local #440. The fall always yielded open hunting season for Harold, an avid hunter of wild game – both big and small. Harold enjoyed spending time outdoors, and hunting was one sport he always looked forward to sharing with others. He enjoyed participating in the sport with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. Harold was also an excellent marksman who received many awards for his expertise in hunting. You would be hard-pressed to find a photo of Harold where he was not wearing camouflage and holding up one of his recent trophies. He was a lifetime member of the White River Bowhunters Club, and in 2008 the Club honored Harold by naming a lake after him, “Gregory Lake.” Harold also had a passion for education. His passion for teaching and safety while hunting led him to his role as an instructor for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Hunter’s Education classes. Harold received the “Instructor of the Year” award from the DNR in 2008. Harold was many things to many people, but his role as father and grandfather was his favorite. He would light up if you asked him about his daughters or grandchildren. Harold was so proud of each of their accomplishments and was excited to share them with others. There is a little piece of Harold in each of his grandchildren that will live on for many years to come. He was born on Feb. 23, 1970, in Bloomington, to Alan and Gayle Abel, who preceded him in death, along with his infant sister, Ambrea. He is survived by his wife, Brandy; children, Abigail, Paige and Ty; his fur babies, Mumford, Avett and Ketch; as well as his brother, Bryson (Ashley); and nieces, Elise and Mia. Bart graduated from Edgewood High School and became a master electrician. He was employed as a Project Superintendent with Cassady Electric and most recently as I&E Facilities Supervisor with Hoosier Energy REC, Inc. Bart was an avid sports and music fan, a committed golfer, a grill master and a jack of all trades. There wasn’t a remodeling project or repair that he couldn’t and wouldn’t ably (no pun intended) tackle at his own home or those of his family and friends. Most importantly, in the way he lived his all-too-short life, Bart defined what it means to be a dedicated husband and father. He always put his family first. When Brandy, a first-grade teacher, needed something constructed for her classroom, Bart made it. He never failed to attend a cross country meet, high school golf match, boys’ basketball game, or Music Warehouse performance in which his children participated. He not only appeared at those events, as many parents do, but gave considerably of his time and talents to support school sponsored events by constructing and maintaining the cross country course, coaching and scoring basketball games, building sets for Music Warehouse and countless other contributions. Marie was born on March 26, 1928 to Obediah Owens and Edna (Butler) Owens in Lawrence County, Indiana. She had an older brother Dr. Walter Owens, and a younger sister Ruth Ramsey Miller. Marie graduated from Heltonville High School, but called Bloomington her home for the last 62 years. Marie inherited the gardening gene from her father, and cooking skills from her mother. Home grown vegetables and fruit were a part of almost every meal when her kids were growing up. One of her many specialties was vegetable soup. All she had to do was open the refrigerator. She also loved to bake, and shared her creations freely. Camping and fishing for bluegill, cruising to Alaska and the western Caribbean, and a driving trip across the United States were some of the many highlights of her long life. After the kids got a good start in life, she began working with her husband Victor Settle as bookkeeper in his jewelry business. She continued with that job until late in life. Victor preceded her in death in 2006, then their oldest child Steve passed in 2018. She leaves behind daughters Joanna Howe (Richard) and Barbara Hays (Rob), and son John Settle-Corbin, also grandchildren Greg Settle (Regina), Marcy Settle, Angie Hickman (Scott), Brandi Liford (Kenny), Patrick Howe (Erin), and Christy Settle-Gray (Brandon). Today, her family includes twelve great-grandkids, and three great-great-grandkids. Born April 3, 1949, in Bedford, he was the son of Earl Coulter Jr. and Ruby (Beasley) Coulter. He married Diane Cox on July 26, 1969 and she survives. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com Robert William Kent, Jr. Dec. 18, 1935 — Jan. 08, 2021 Robert William Kent, Jr. was born December 18, 1935 to Mary Frances Kent (née Treadway) and Robert William Kent, Sr. in Mitchell, IN. He was their second child, and would be the eldest son of nine siblings. Robert went by many names in life. He was called Buddy at home by his parents and siblings, Bob at school, work, and among friends, and often just Kent by his wife, sons, and grandchildren. Bob lived in Mitchell nearly his entire life. He attended Riley Elementary, Burris Junior High School, and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954. After high school he enrolled in the Air Force. He did his basic training in St. Louis, MO and then spent the next four years as a radio repairman at duty stations in New York and Florida. After completing his four years of service, Bob returned to his hometown. Over the next several years he worked at Travelers and Sarkes Tarzian before getting on at the GM plant in 1963, where he worked until his retirement in 2004. In 1967, Bob met the woman who would become his wife, Carole Sue (née Brown), to whom he would be married for 52 beautiful years. Upon marrying Carole, or Suse as he called her, Bob also became a father to Joey D Randolph. Nine months later they welcomed son Layne Clark (Amber). Then several years later they welcome their youngest, Kyle Robert. During his long life, Bob had many interests and was involved in many organizations in his community. He was an active member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church, teaching Sunday school, ushering during services, serving on committees, mowing the grass weekly, and assisting with the food pantry. When his children were young, Bob was also a Cub Scout leader and coached several youth sports teams, during which he had an influence on the lives of many local youth who still remember him fondly. Bob was also very active, he loved to play ping-pong in the basement with his kids, spent a few years on a local bowling team, and played on several softball teams where he routinely hit home runs during the church league games. But Bob was never very competitive. It never seemed to bother him to lose, because he just enjoyed playing. Bob was also an avid sports spectator. He spent nearly every Sunday afternoon watching NASCAR, rooting on his favorite drivers, Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson. He enjoyed attending baseball games, and his favorite all time baseball player was Ralph Kiner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He followed some professional sports teams, but he was the most devoted fan and fervent follower of Mitchell Bluejackets basketball and football teams, which is why you would often find him in the bleachers at home games even long after his own kids had left the house. But his favorite physical activity was walking. Bob probably walked thousands of miles around Mitchell visiting with family and friends. For several years he spent nearly every evening walking with his siblings and other relatives around Spring Mill State Park. Even up until the last month of his life, Bob was walking 4-5 miles a day around the hometown he loved so much. One of Bob’s favorite past-times was shopping with his wife. He especially enjoyed their many trips to the Louisville flea market, Kmart, and Kohl’s. Bob also enjoyed reading cowboy books. His favorite authors were Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey. He also loved music. He enjoyed old country and western music and church hymns, and he always bragged about all of the times he saw Elvis Presley in concert while in the service. But his favorite was Christmas music, which he often listened to year round. Bob really loved Christmas, and for years his house had the biggest display of Christmas lights and decorations in all of Mitchell. Bob is survived by his wife Carole Sue (née Brown), his three sons Joey D Randolph (Sharon), Layne Clark (Amber), Kyle Robert, his four grandchildren Nicklas, David, Samuel, and Gisele, his six siblings Agatha Kimble, Joe, Roger (Brenda Hardy), David (Wilma Sage), Regina Long (Bob), and Donnie, as well as a huge extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, as well as his sisters Ruth and Leona. She was manager and owner of Little Italy in Mitchell. Patti retired in 2017 from Michaels in Bloomington where she was part of the management team. She loved reading, doing crafts, and had been busy making masks for the COVID-19 pandemic. Patti was an avid pet lover, especially cats. Raised in Dexter, MO, Loretta was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ and later the Bernie Church of Christ. Loretta was a Dexter resident until 2005 when she moved to Indiana to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She enjoyed many years working in hospitality at Santa’s Lodge in Santa Claus, IN until retirement when she moved to Bedford to be closer to her daughter. Loretta was a social person and kind to everyone she met. She battled breast cancer in 2009 and as a result of the care she received, Loretta devoted her spare time to volunteering at the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center. Thank you to the staff at Stonebridge Health Campus for the care and support throughout her stay. As a resident there she enjoyed interacting with staff and playing hallway bingo. She was born on November 6, 1923 to William Van Hook and Arta (Berry) Shaw in Ocean City, New Jersey. Her family moved to Millville, New Jersey when she was 7. She met her husband, Arthur R. Eastwood, whom preceded her in death, when he was stationed at the Army Air Force Base in Millville during World War II. They married on December 3, 1943. They have three children, Arthur R. (Judy) Eastwood, Jr. of Winter Springs, Florida, Linda Eastwood (Bill) Schoonmaker of Bedford, Indiana and Wendy Eastwood (Linc) Armington of Millville, New Jersey, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her brother, William Shaw preceded her in death. Evalyn and Art lived in Millville until 1956 when Art transferred to North Olmstead, Ohio. They lived in Ohio for a little over five years and returned to Millville, where they lived until moving to Bedford in their later years. Evalyn was active in her church while her children were in school, teaching 3rd grade Sunday School for many years. When in Ohio she was secretary/treasurer of the PTA. She worked many years as bookkeeper/office manager at L.G. Nester’s in Millville and retired from there. She was an avid reader and enjoyed painting ceramics and working crossword puzzles. She and her husband joined the First United Methodist Church in Bedford where she was a member and participated in Sunday School and the United Methodist Women, she also enjoyed taking trips with the Happy Travelers. Evalyn was a good wife and mother. She stayed at home with her children until her youngest was in 4th grade and then went back to work. She was a very dependable and hard worker. She remained active until she moved in with her daughter Linda and then to Stonebridge in 2019. She had a good, long life and had a family who loved her very much, and who thanks God that she passed away peacefully. We would like to thank Stonebridge for her excellent care, she loved her room, and doing her exercises and playing Bingo. January 04, 2021 Ivan “Buzz” Murr Jan. 14, 1937 — Dec. 31, 2020 Ivan “Buzz” Murr, 83, of Mitchell passed away December 31, 2020, at IU Health in Bedford. He was born near Depauw in Harrison County, Indiana, on January 14, 1937, the son of Wilbur and Bessie (Little) Murr, and attended Thompson Chapel there as a youth. In 1945, his family moved to Mitchell. In high school, he played multiple sports all four years. Although small in stature, he was a powerful halfback on the football team and is also remembered as an athletic yell leader who inspired fans with his gymnastic skills during the basketball season his final two years of high school. Upon graduating from high school in 1955, he worked at Carpenter Body Works in Mitchell and later was one of the original employees at Otis Elevator in Bloomington when they opened in 1965. He worked at Otis for thirty-three years until his retirement in 1998. Ivan was a card carrying member of the Mitchell Senior Citizens Center and could be found on the dance floor there most weekends with friends. Survivors include his three daughters, Julie (George) Bailey, Paige (David) Jones and Carol (Paul) Sanders, all of Bedford; ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lavon Medley, a brother Roy Murr, and a granddaughter Kyla Bailey. He was born on December 18, 1944, the son of the late Paul “Si” Hall and Anna Mae Henderson Hall. Doodle is survived by one daughter, Leah R. (Kyle) Jean and two sons, Anthony “Tony” D. (Tonia) Hall and Christopher “Chris” A. Hall; four grandchildren, Joshua Hall, Johnathon Hall, Chance Jean, and Lainey Jean; and two great-grandchildren Natalie Hall and Eden Hall; Margaret Faubion Hall, mother of Leah, and one brother, James “Jim” (Lisa) Hall. He attended Clearspring High School and worked several years logging and was the owner of C L Logging. Doodle was an avid card player and loved to socialize and drink coffee with his buddies at Denny’s in Bedford. He was a member of the Heltonville Methodist Church and the Eagles of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith Marie Hall, the mother of his sons, one brother, Ronald Dean Hall and one sister, Sherry Barrett. Services will be conducted Monday, January 4, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Winklepleck & Brock Funeral Home, Brownstown, Indiana. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 am until time of the service. Burial will follow at Kurtz Cemetery. She was born July 3, 1936 in Washington, IN to the late James Denver and Anna Berniece (Crane) Webster. Emilie graduated from Shoals High School in 1954 where she was voted as the smartest one in her class. She married the love of her life in 1959, her late husband Arnold Leroy “Buck” Padgett. Emilie attended Indiana University for a brief time before beginning her career with the U.S. Navy Crane and the U.S. Air Force at Allison’s in Indianapolis. She loved helping others and being around people as she had a very successful retail career with Lazarus/Macys for 17 years. She worked for the past 15 years with Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel. Emilie was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and for the Bloomington Lions Club. She also served on the Monroe County Fair Board where she organized and took charge of the ticket sales for the Monroe County Fair. Emilie loved to be outside and gardening, she loved to read and to travel. She had a deep love for her family and enjoyed spending time with her close friends. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Griffith and son-in-law, Greg of Charlestown, Indiana; her price and joy, granddaughter, Kyleigh Griffith; her niece, Jeanne Webster; and nephew Dusty Webster. Born on December 9, 1965 he worked as a dedicated employee at Contech Engineering Solutions for more than 24 years.
