Marilyn E. Jackson 87, of Bedford died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at StoneBridge of Bedford surrounded by family. Born on May 25, 1930, she was the daughter of Frank and Lucille Johnson. She attended Bedford High School. She married Ray L. Jackson on Sept. 29, 1950, and he preceded her in death.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed socializing with her surrounding neighbors.
She loved all sports in particular watching her grandchildren. She was an avid fan of IU basketball and the Indiana Pacers.
She was also a member of Hillcrest Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jim (Cheryl) Jackson and Jeff (Eileen) Jackson, all of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Cory (Sharra) Reynolds of Fruitland Park, Fla., Melissa (Jared) Gilbert of Orleans, Casey Burks of Bedford, Logan (Alyssa) Jackson of Bedford, Ryeanne (Shilo) Bevers of Columbus, Rachel Jackson of Bloomington and Brittany, Isaac, Tyler Jackson, all of Bedford; and seven great-grandchildren, Hope, Faith and Trinity Reynolds, Carson, Owen and Lola Gilbert and Carson Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one daughter, Diane.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Hillcrest Christian Church Building Fund.

Alana Joy Norman, 60, of Bedford, died at 6:47 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born July 1, 1957, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Charles and Jean (Brown) Foddrill. She was previously the second deputy treasurer for Lawrence County and a member of the Leesville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Natasha Hall and husband Josh of Leesville; a son, Tyler Norman and wife Sasha of Vallonia; four grandchildren, Anala and Indie Hall and Reace and Ruger Norman; her mother, Jean Foddrill of Leesville; two sisters, Sherri Bulleit of Corydon and Denise Bair and husband John of Leesville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Rob Kirts and the Rev. Bill Ireland officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Ralph C. Warren, 74, of Orleans, passed away on Aug. 28, 2017, at the Landmark Hospital in Naples, Fla.
He was born Dec. 11, 1942, in Louisville, Ky., the son of James C. and Emily C. (Jenkins) Warren. He married Ida Rose (Carter) Warren on Dec. 16, 1989 and she survives.
He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Orleans American Legion Warren Brock Post 69, Orleans Masonic Lodge No. 153 F&AM, Mitchell Church of Christ and Gulf Coast Church of Christ in Fort Myers, Fla.
He is survived by his wife Ida Rose Warren of Orleans; nine children, Steve Robertson (Beth), Carla Taylor (Naaman), Lynn Buchanan (Shane), Peg Warren (Sandra), Cathy Batterton, Tanya Belliveau, James Warren, Oscar Warren and Becky Kidd (Zach); 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emily Ann Cox (Mark).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Gary Spear officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans with military rites conducted by the Orleans American Legion.
Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m..

Judy A. Brazzel, 78, of Bedford, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born Dec. 9, 1938, in Wabash, she was the daughter of Loarn Dale and Mary Hazel (Radcliff) Nelson. She married John Brazzel and he preceded her in death.
She was a hairdresser for 59 years and spent many of them at the Cut Hut.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Zollman and husband Donnie of Mitchell; a son, Darrel (D.G.) Yates of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Alexis and Alannah Zollman; and nieces and nephews, Connie Lowery, Beverly Harvey and Jimmy Graves.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, DeLorne Nelson; a sister, Mickey Graves; and a stepbrother, Kenny Graves.

Joanne Elizabeth ‘Jo’ Boling

A truly precious and beautiful spirit joined her husband, Richard, and the rest of Heaven’s unspeakable joy on Aug. 27, 2017.
Joanne “Jo” Elizabeth Bullock Boling was known for her infectious laugh and welcoming ways. She was born in Bedford on Dec. 22, 1929, to Ivan and Cletis (Lewis) Bullock. She quickly became a doting big sister to her younger brother, Jim. Unfortunately, her mom died early on in childbirth, and her beloved father died when she was only 28. Her unique life experiences created a family-oriented, joyful, and inclusive soul who welcomed ALL into her home.
Joanne’s spirit to serve was nurtured when she received her nursing degree at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Indianapolis. It was during nursing school when a blind date, arranged by her friend whose husband had a friend, changed the course of both Joanne and Richard Boling Sr.’s life. Married on the day after Christmas, a family soon followed; Kathy (Bruce) Greenberg, Richard (Babette) Boling, Mark (Monique) Boling, Jennifer (Dan) Groulx. Lucky for us, we were showered with her love … hugs and kisses, but also family game nights, sit-down meals, breakfast every morning, and support of all we did.
Outgoing and boisterous, she was easy to be located at the largest of parties by simply listening for her trademark laugh. Many will remember the loud and joyous “Hola” resonating on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta as Joanne greeted everyone she encountered. Joanne was so good for her husband, Dr. Richard C. Boling Sr., as she not only spoiled him as his wife, but also brought Dick out of his shell socially. She affectionately nicknamed him, “Doc Darling,” a name Jo used with endearment for her beloved soulmate for the duration of their days together.
Joanne so loved her people, she not only organized the get-togethers, spoiling us while we were with her, but then cried when we said our goodbyes. Joanne (Bammaw) and Dick (Bappaw) were blessed with 14 grandchildren: Krista, Marissa, Katie, Ashley, Whitney, Hayley, Mackenzie, Ronisha, Drew, Christopher, Michael, Matthew, Zachary and Madeline, and five great-grandchildren.
Many close and loyal friendships blossomed over the years, which decorated their lives like beautiful ornaments on a Christmas tree. Her rambunctious group of friends enjoyed Chatter and Chowder Society, travel and exploration, sports (golf and tennis), progressive dinners, card games, and singing around the piano, all which helped to fulfill her blessed life. Few friendships compared to the incredible bond between Joanne (Mert) and her best friend, Joyce Williams Doyle (Gert), a friendship that stood the test of time and further developed into family.
As life’s mileage began to take its toll, her friendships extended to caregivers: Eileen, Lupe, Jennifer and her many extended family at Northwood’s Village. Joanne was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Catholic Church where she served on the Rosary Society and as a Eucharistic minister. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a member of Tri Kappa and Four Arts, and enjoyed her bridge club.
We know of no better wife, mother, Bammaw, great grandmother or friend (at least that is not already a Saint)! We will miss you terribly … Heaven’s joy truly runneth over.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart. Reverend Jason Freiburger will officiate. Immediately following, everyone is then invited for a meal and a time of sharing with the family at the Christiana Creek Country Club until 7:30 p.m.
Private family burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Mark E. Kern, 59, of Bedford, died at 5:43 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Sept. 19, 1957, in Bedford, he was the son of Louis “Corky” and Beverly S. (Walker) Kern.
He was a 4-H Junior Leader, a board member of SICIL in Mitchell, a member of the Ham Radio Club, Hoosier Hills Food Bank and the Community Baptist Fellowship Church.
Survivors include his parents, of Bedford; two sons, Andrew and Dylan Kern, both of Bedford; two sisters, Teresa Saunders and Susan Gales and husband Roger, all of Bedford; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Mary Walker and Moses and Elma Kern.

Fay Hutchison Russell Jr., 88, passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 24, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born April 6, 1929, in Mitchell, he was the son of Fay Frank and Lucille (Hutchison) Russell. He married Metta Ruth Lane, and she preceded him in death. He and Eva (Newlin) Cornwell were married June 27, 1981.
Fay retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane and was a farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and enjoyed euchre, basketball, baseball and reading Western stories.
Fay was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Russell of Mitchell; children, Gary Lynn (Debra) Russell of Orleans, James Anthony Russell of Mitchell and Linda Susan (Roland) Atchison of Mitchell; stepsons, John Paul (Anita) Cornwell of Indianapolis and James Floyd (Kathy) Cornwell of Carmichael, California; brother, John Wesley Russell of Mitchell; 12 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
His parents; wife, Metta Ruth Russell; and stepson, Gregory Dean Cornwell, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with the Rev. Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Helen F. Mitchell, 94, of Danville, passed away on Aug. 22, 2017, at I.U. Heath in Bedford.
Helen was born on Dec. 27, 1922, in Washington County, to Burkey and Lina Fleenor Holstine. She married Leon Mitchell; he preceded her in death in 1975.
Helen was the cafeteria manager for Danville Community Schools for several years before her retirement. She was a volunteer for Hendricks Community Hospital and member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon (Mike) Neuman and Dana (Ron) Grimes; grandchildren, Reed (Denise) Neuman, Nicole Neuman (Kelly) Hurt, Brett Grimes, Kirsten Grimes (Brandon) Martin; and great-grandchildren, Victoria, Alexandra and Peyton Neuman, Willow Allen, Sienna Grimes and Gavin Martin and Case Martin.
She was preceded in death by brothers, William and Kenneth Holstine, and a sister, Edith Holmes.

Gordon Brewer

While people come into the world in different shapes and forms, some souls are born into this world being too illimitable to be content in one place. And so it was that one cool autumn day, a young man left his native Ontario and took off for adventure … and adventure he did find.
Gordon Brewer was born on Sept. 23, 1928, in the small paper mill town of Iroquois Falls, Ontario, Canada, to Donald and Marjorie (Salisbury) Brewer. As a teenager, Gordon struck out west on a journey that would eventually lead him to serve in both the Canadian Provost Corps and the United States Army. An aviator at heart, he flew a Westland Lysander for the Canadian forces and a Lockheed P-38 Lightning for the United States in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After discharge from the Army, on June 13, 1955, he took his lunch break to marry Anna Lee Riddle, and together they set out on the adventure of a lifetime: raising a family.
Through homes in Indiana, Illinois, and Canada, Gordon and Anna Lee raised five unique and close-knit children … a journey that included camping trips, fishing, swimming in the frigid lakes of the Great North, and holding a proper Episcopal funeral for a mole. Then in 1969, Gordon moved his family to Southern Indiana and began work at Central Foundry GM. Gordon would go on to continue his career as a master electrician through IBEW Local No. 16 until his retirement.
Life in Lawrence County was never dull for the Brewer clan. There Gordon and Anna Lee became active community members: St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14 F&AM, Bedford Elks Grand Lodge No. 826 BPOE, and Hoosier Hills Ham Club. Later in life, Gordon was especially active in American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, where his duties included, but were not limited to: Commander, Chaplain, Chef de Gare of the 40&8, leadership of the educational scholarship programs, successful creation and oversight of the bingo program, and making sure on every Memorial Day that every fallen soldier in Lawrence County was recognized with a flag.
Bedford is where Gordon and Anna Lee became proud grandparents to Rebecca, James, Mandy, Lindsay, Shannon, Erica, Lauren, Jennifer, Adam, Bryan, Kayla, Justin, Jessica, Bradley, Cassandra and Sara; doting great-grandparents to 18. It was in these rolling hills where, together with his best friend and partner-in-crime Anna Lee, Gordon built an incredibly rich life filled with laughter, service, celebration, loss, mourning, teaching, love, lots of coffee, and plenty of electrical tape … a decades-long legacy that will withstand the test of time.
And yet, sometimes even two countries and 88 years isn’t enough to contain a truly indomitable spirit. In the wee hours of Sunday morning, Aug. 20, 2017, Gordon took his final flight home, where he is most certainly swigging hot coffee, making funny faces, and smiling as he was reunited with his beloved Anna Lee; his parents; brothers Rex and Arthur Edgar; sisters Gwendolyn and Carol; and great-granddaughter Leslie Jane.
Gordon is being sorely missed by his five children, daughters, Toni Brewer of Bloomington and Tabbi Brewer (Steve Owens) of Mitchell; sons, Steven “Buz” Brewer and Sheppard (Donna) Brewer of Bedford, and Scott Brewer of Odon; siblings, sister, Joyce of Wisconsin, and Art, Ian, Heather, and sisters-in-law, Doris, Annelie, and Gladys, all of Canada; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his brothers-in-arms “down at the Post;” his fellow “hams” at the Hoosier Hills Ham Club; and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews all over North America.
Arrangements are being overseen by Day & Carter and the American Legion. A private family service with full military honors will be held at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends and family are all invited to join us as we celebrate Gordon’s life at the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 on Saturday, Sept. 2 from Noon until 3 p.m.

Margaret Stoelting, 70, passed away on Aug. 23, 2017, at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis.
Margaret was born on Oct. 24, 1946, in Lawrenceville, Ill., the daughter of Joseph A. Sr. and Margaret (Gibson) Rusch. She married Stan Stoelting on July 29, 2006.
Margaret was a retired school teacher having received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University. Margaret was an avid reader and a member of the National Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, Beta Sigma Phi and Tri Kappa.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Stan Stoelting; and children, Margaret’s son, Paul Blair and his wife Monica, and Stan’s children, Erica Ogle and husband Heath, Travis Stoelting and wife Jackie; her sisters, Mary Bezy and her husband Tom of Vincennes, Jane Althoff and her husband John of Vincennes; brothers, Mike Rusch and his wife Carla of Vincennes, Joe Rusch Jr. and his wife Ranah of Vincennes and Jerry Rusch and wife Karen of Mitchell; grandchildren, Olivia Knabel, Addison Ogle, Shayden Ogle, and one grandson expected in January.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her son Patrick, and Patrick and Paul’s father, Thomas Blair.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. EST on Saturday, Aug. 26, at Old Cathedral Catholic Church with the Rev. John Schipp and Deacon Earl Ruppel celebrating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Peggy Lou Popp, 82, of Bedford passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. at White River Lodge in Bedford.
She was born in Lawrence County on Sept. 24, 1934, to Foster George and Grace Chilton (Wagner) George.
Peggy was an avid bowler and attended and participated in National Bowling tournaments, she also bowled in the WIBC in Bedford, and helped start youth bowling in Bedford; she also enjoyed golf and traveling.
Survivors include two children, Jackie (Dudley) Dixson and husband Joel of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Jeff Yeskie and wife Pattie of Springville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Sue McClintock of Bedford and Penny Rhoda and husband Sam of Bedford; one brother, Larry Ray George and wife Mary of Southaven, Miss.; her dear friend, Doris Pierce of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Lovell George; sister, Phyllis Ann Keith; brother, Robert Eugene George and sister, Priscilla Jane George, both in infancy.

Loretta E. (Probasco) Jent, 80, of Bedford, passed from this life, Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at her daughter’s residence.
Born July 17, 1937, in Martin County; she was the daughter (the eldest of seven children) of Luther and Margaret (Butler) Probasco. She was first married to Ray L. Allen. She married Richard O. Jent on Dec. 31, 1976; and he preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1997.
She retired from RCA/Thompson on April 1, 1998, after 34 years of service.
Survivors include her son, Rusty Allen of Bedford; daughter, Cheryl Eagan of Bedford; sisters, Marilyn Mills of French Lick, Wanda Probasco, and Gene Merchand of Dubois; sister-in-law, Debbie Probasco of Shoals; brother, Arthur Probasco of Shoals; three grandsons, Jacob Fox and Jordan Allen of Bedford and Grahm Keith and wife Kendra of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and two great-grandchildren, Zayne and Abigail.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Violet Way and husband Richard; two brothers, David and Dennis Probasco; and grandson, Leighton Keith.

Norma J. Lawhead, 88, of Bedford, died at 2:55 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born Feb. 26, 1929, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Floyd Homer and Sylvia Floean (Bartlett) Allen. She married Noble Norman on May 25, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1990. She later married Charles Lawhead on Feb. 12, 1996, and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2010.
She was a homemaker and attended Bartlettsville Christian Church. She had volunteered at Dunn Hospital, published a book about old barns and enjoyed oil painting.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Martin and husband Robert and Judith Ann Stipp and husband Bill, all of Heltonville; two sons, Ronald Norman and wife Pamela of Mitchell and Donald Norman and wife Julie of Heltonville/Bedford; nine grandchildren, Greg (Jeanette) Martin, Holly Martin, Andrew (Bobbi) Stipp, Matthew (Heather) Norman, Adam Norman, Jamie Russell, Ashley (Danyal) Norman, Travis (Samantha) Norman, Chanelle Norman; 16 great-grandchildren, Courtney (Matt) Tomey, Brooke Martin, Amy Martin, John Stipp, Matt Evans, Michael Evans, Madison Norman, Avery Norman, Laura Norman, Jeremiah, Joshua, Abby Russell, Emorie Russell, Ana Nateghi, Juliet Nateghi and Cyrus Nateghi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three brothers, Floyd Allen, Jr., Charles Wendell Allen, and Warren Dale Allen (stillborn); and a sister, Barbara Fitzgerald.

Mary E. Albertson, 74, of Orleans, passed away on Aug. 18, 2017 at 9:11 a.m. at her residence.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1943, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Hank T. and June (White) Melvin. She married Ernest Albertson on Feb. 18, 1967, and he survives.
She was a lifetime member of the ladies auxiliary of the VFW Post 9107, serving as president for District 9 and conductress in the state. She worked 18 years at the Kocolene Gas Station, a hostess at Spring Mill Inn and as a clerk at K & E Market. She graduated from Mitchell High School, Class of 1961.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest of Orleans; two sons, Greg (Michelle) Albertson of Arizona and Troy (Nicole) Albertson of Orleans; six grandchildren, Baili (Anthony) Campbell, Taylor Albertson, Brady Albertson, Chelsie (Justin) Albertson, Darby Albertson and Tori Albertson; one sister, Sharon (Bob) Hobson; and one brother-in-law, Al “Tude” (Nancy) Albertson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with the Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery.

Virginia Mae “Ginny” Porter, 80, of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Garden Villa in Bedford. Ginny was born May 16, 1937, in Bloomington and was the daughter of the late Stacy Milford and Sylvia M. (Connor) East.
Ginny had worked at RCA and was also a Demonstrator at Sam’s Club for several years.
Survivors include her two sons, Charles Eugene “Butch” Porter (Linda) and Roger Dale “Dutch” Porter (Susan); three sisters, Rhea Dawn Flynn, Mary Louise Craft and Patricia Wright; three brothers, Bill East, Ernest East and Joe East; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was born March 14, 1963, in Bedford, to Bart and Millie (Nardini) Bertolino.
Tom married Kim Neeley on Feb. 6, 2003; and she survives.
Tom was a member of First United Methodist Church. He graduated from BNL with the Class of 1981. He attended Purdue and Ball State Universities. Tom and Kim owned George’s Gateway True Value, in Bedford, where they made so many cherished friendships.
You never ran into Tom without seeing his smile and getting a big hug.
Tom is survived by his wife, Kim of Bedford; parents, Bart and Millie Bertolino of Bedford; daughters, Shelby Bertolino (Steve) Tillette, Emily Bertolino and Mallory Bennett (Tyler) Collier, all of Bedford; son, Nicky Bennett of Birmingham, Ala.,; one grandson, Gannon Wayne Tillette of Bedford; Tom’s four-legged girl, Zoey (Meathead) Bertolino; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Jane Neeley, Dale and Rita Neeley, Merle Neeley, Carolyn and Danny Fortner and Diana and Jon Hall; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Born Dec. 13, 1949, in Parsons, W.Va., he was the son of David Samuel and Lorena Virginia (Fike) Price. He married Cathy Denise Clark July 14, 1984.
Roger retired as an electrical engineer from NSWC Crane. He graduated from Union City High School and Purdue University.
Roger was a member of Bride of Christ Fellowship, and the Crane retirees “Old Farts Club.” He was a past board member of the Mitchell Community Youth League. He enjoyed playing tennis with the Bedford Tennis League. He restored a 1967 Blue GTO, which is the name he used to sponsor youth activities.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Price of Mitchell; children, Marian Cash of Mitchell, Cory (April) Price of Orleans and Stacey (Kyle) Edrington of Mitchell; grandchildren, Michael Edrington, Nikki Edrington, Porsha Price, Edric Cash, Garrett Price and Tessa Price; great-grandson, Kaius Cash; siblings, Carol (Darwin) St. Myers of St. Joseph, Missouri, Ronald (Charlene) Price of Ossian and Keith Price of New Palenstine.
His parents; grandson, Dorian Cash; and brother, Allen Price, preceded him in death.

Barbara Ann (Sharr) Bartlett, 87, of Smithville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug.17, 2017.
Born July 24, 1930, in Lawrence County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Shirley and Pearl Ann (Kirk) Sharr.
Barb was a member of Smithville Christian Church, and a member of the Smithville Area Association. She loved to help the Smithville community in any way she could, volunteering her time and cooking many wonderful desserts and dishes to help with the Smithville Labor Day Celebration. She loved to work in her garden, which was always immaculate and full of vegetables. She enjoyed canning, sewing, picking berries, making jellies, and being outdoors.
Barb was an amazing cook, and anyone who happened to stop by the farm to say hello usually didn’t leave without eating something and having a cup of coffee. There was always food available to eat in her kitchen, and she made her famous homemade biscuits every morning.
She was a farmer and was no stranger to hard work, laboring tirelessly with the rest of her family on the farm, milking cows, fixing fence, helping deliver calves, and doing the many other tasks of everyday farm life. She was a very kind and humble lady who had a heart of gold.
Barb is survived by her daughter, Trudy Ann Bartlett; her daughter-in-law, Barbara J. Bartlett; grandson, Jake Bartlett and his wife Christine, grandson, Matthew Bartlett; and great-granddaughter, Jolene Ann Bartlett, all of Smithville; her sisters, Norma Bartlett and Ruby Cracraft (husband Willard); her brother, Bob Sharr; brother-in-law Joe Bartlett (wife Marion), her sister-in-law, Kathryn Bartlett, all of Lawrence County, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Richard Bartlett, her son, Tommy Bartlett, her brother, Jim Sharr, and her sister, Bernice Ritter.
Visitation for Barb will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at The Funeral Chapel of Powell & Deckard, 3000 E. Third St., in Bloomington.

Allan Dale Clines, 92, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at his residence.
Born May 31, 1925, in Missouri, he was the son of Otis and Martha (Tuttle) Clines. He married Helen M. Downham; she preceded him in death on June 17, 2017.
Allan worked at Deitzen’s Baking Co. for 25 years, Extruded Alloy for 15 years, Penn Railroad, East Texas Oil Fields, farmed in Arkansas, wood cutter, cut stave bolts, and State Park caretaker, Ironton, Ohio.
He was of the Baptist faith. Allan loved to fish and hunt.
Surviving are children, Priscella Kay (Dennis) Sproles and William Allan “Bill” (Pamela) Clines; grandchildren, Bryan A. (Karen) Clines, Tony (Christy) Sproles, William Adam (Julie) Clines and Ashtan (Jason) Bean; and great-grandchildren, Danielle Clines, Jaylyn Sproles, Gracie Sproles, Josie Young-Clines, Kaylee Bean and Kristian Bean.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 72 years, Helen Clines; two brothers, Clifton Clines and Raymond Clines; and one sister, Zova (Clines) Harrison.

Born July 29, 1946, in Cape Sandy, he was the son of Max K. and Florence May (Lynch) Jones. Marlen married Della Bolton on Jan. 22, 1966, and she survives.
He was a retired electronic technician and building maintenance from the Times-Mail and Lawrence County. He attended Tabernacle of Praise Church.
Marlen enjoyed the outdoors, watching the sun set every evening, gardening and visiting with his neighbors. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.

Vaughn David Delong, 69, passed peacefully from ALS in his home in Springville on Aug. 12, 2017.
Born Feb. 24, 1948, in Indianapolis to James A. Delong and E. Marie (Walters) Delong, he graduated from North Central High School. He had an early love of cars and tractors and bought his first car at age 14 with money saved from his paper route and mowing lawns.
Vaughn served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968-1969 and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service. Vaughn was a farmer and drove a school bus for Eastern Greene Schools for 42 years.
He was always active in the Baptist church and was part of Crooked Creek Baptist Church, Owensburg Baptist Church and most recently Avoca Baptist Church. From 1985-2001, he served in various capacities at the Indian Creek Baptist Camp.
A lover of music, he enjoyed singing and playing hymns on the organ and accordion. He also sang tenor in the BASIC Quartet for many years.
Vaughn is survived by his wife Kelsie; three children, Nicholas, Nathan (Caitlin) and Julia Delong; three stepchildren, April Turpin, Coy (Kimberly) Hurley and Kathryn (Jordan) Lewis; grandchildren, Jacob Hurley and Enon and Roman Lewis; niece, Tessa (DeLong) Abney; nephew, Damian DeLong; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James K. DeLong.

Preceding Butch in death were his parents Bill Fish, Helen Fish Clark and his stepfather Clarence “Sandy” Clark; as well as his grandparents Ralph and Francis Fish and Harry and Mildred George.
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Kristin Fish. He is also survived by their two children, Lindsey Siewert (Fish), husband Ed of Jeffersonville, and Matthew, wife Jennifer of Lake St. Louis, Mo; and his four grandchildren, Ethan, Logan, Stella, and Lance.
Additional family include his brother, Robyn Fish (Mary), Sandra Sherrill (Curt), Mike Clark (Arnetta), Keith Clark (Bonny), Beth McIntyre (Larry); along with five nephews and two nieces.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Shelter House at Otis Park on Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made in honor of Butch to the Lawrence County Community Foundation with notation to be placed in the Bedford Lions Club We Serve fund.
Butch was a graduate of Bloomington High School in 1966. He went on to join General Motors Powertrain where he graduated from the General Motors Apprentice program for skilled trades. He later graduated from Vickers Hydraulic School and Oakland City University. Butch retired from General Motors after 40 years of working as a machine repairman.
Butch lived his life wanting to serve the community he loved so much and to reach out and influence someone’s life in a positive way every day. Butch was a member and past-president of the Bedford Jaycees Club, an organization dedicated to community service. Butch was also member of the Bedford Lions Club for 28 years where he served as a member and president. He was a chairman of the Limestone Heritage Festival and Christmas Parades; chairman and volunteer of the Bedford Pancake Festival, recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2017, and was the Bedford Lion of the Year in 2010-2011. As a Lion, Butch helped build numerous wheelchair ramps around Bedford for those in need and assisted with elementary age children’s eye exams throughout Lawrence County.
Butch loved local sports, especially softball, golf, and following any sports his children played. He was the first president of the Bedford Softball Association, an umpire, and a player. Butch went on to help design and build Murray Forest Park in Bedford. The park was built with the assistance of his friends and dozens of community volunteers. Butch was an avid golfer who loved Otis Park, and his friends there. He looked forward each year to volunteering at the Claude Akins Tournament where he spent many happy hours behind the grill. He volunteered his time in support of Otis Park wherever he was needed.
Butch was a master gardener through the Purdue extension program and completed projects at Stalker Elementary School as well as a 9/11 memorial at the Bedford Fire Department.
Butch was a believer in being a lifelong learner. After completing his associates degree from Oakland City University, Butch was invited to develop and teach two courses in Bedford through Ivy Tech. He developed the course work and taught fluid power systems and another on machine maintenance and installation. Butch volunteered for the Success and Opportunity at Reading (SOAR!) program focusing improving the basic reading skills of adults and families. Butch was a volunteer working with children at Stalker Elementary. He also spent time at the Lawrence County Jail teaching reading and math.
Although Butch once fought and lost to the Park Board for his son’s right to fish at Leatherwood Creek at Otis Park, he ironically became a member of the Bedford Park Board in 2007 until his death. During his tenure at the Park Board, Butch served as Santa Claus at Otis Park to innumerable children of Bedford and the surrounding area.
In the summer of 2015, Butch was asked to be involved in the Rails to Trails program designed to transform old railroad tracks into walking and biking trails throughout Lawrence County. Butch spent countless hours working on this project and also worked closely with two Boy Scouts to complete their Eagle Scout project. Near the end of the Lawrence County trail project, the need for a bridge over State Road 450 was identified. Butch donated the funds required for this project and worked tirelessly with others to build the bridge.
Along with the other activities Butch spent his time doing, he enjoyed attending the breakfast club at Hardees restaurant where he could meet with and debate philosophy and the topics of the day with his friends. Butch was also a member of the Moose Lodge and greatly enjoyed their Friday night poker tournaments.
Butch became a lifelong blood donor in 1964 and has since donated many gallons of blood to help those in need. He also became a basic EMT after the birth of his first child. Butch was an organ and tissue donor as his final act of service.
Butch was an amazing man, husband, father, and Pop. He is irreplaceable and will be sorely missed by his family and community.

Jenell (Lynch) Rains, 71, of Bedford, passed away at 10:47 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born April 5, 1946, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles and Norma Jean (Davis) Lynch. She married Boyce Rains; he preceded her in death in September of 2000.
Jenell was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She worked at Westview and the Hospitality House.
Surviving are her daughter, Jeanne (Danny) New; grandchildren, Devin, Robyn and Kristyn New; sister, Leah Lynch; brother Chuck Lynch; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jenell had a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyce; and brothers, Bud Lynch and William Lynch, in infancy.
Cremation was chosen with a Funeral Mass and burial at a later date.

Terry D. Hash, 70, of Bedford passed away at 11:12 P.M. on Aug. 9, 2017, at IU Health in Bedford.
He was born on March 8, 1947, in Lawrence County to Bernard Hash and Hazel Marie (White) Hash. Terry married Virginia Gail Turner on Dec. 3, 1972, in Muncie, and she survives.
He retired from NWSC Crane after 41 years of service, and was a veteran of the Indiana National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Gail Hash of Bedford; daughter, Jama Cox and husband Sean of Mitchell; two granddaughters, Chloe Cox and Delaney Cox of Mitchell; and brother, Steven Hash of Bedford.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation was chosen with a memorial service at a later date.

She married Charles Hoopingarner; and he survives.
Helen was a graduate of Oolitic High School. She was a retired caregiver. She attended Dive Christian Church.

Born Oct. 5, 1923, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Henry and Alta (Dobson) Garsnett. She married Robert O. Kelly on May 18, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1992.
She retired from Westinghouse after 22 years. She had also worked at Central Foundry and RCA.
She was a long-time member of the Guthrie Christian Church, Ladies Aide of Guthrie, Huntingburg Central Christian Church, U.A.W. Local No. 440 and the I.B.E.W of Bloomington.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Kelly Gilbert and husband Phil of Huntingburg and Debra Kelly Combs and husband Michael of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Trisha Hillenburg and husband Dennis of Bedford, Katie Combs and fiance Chris Soptich, of Elkhart, Chad Allen and wife Rachel of Mukilteo, Wash., Tad Allen and wife Debbie and Kelly Allen and wife Michelle, all of Huntingburg, Trent Owens and wife Nancy of Holland, Stephanie Gerstad and husband Michael of Newburg and Leigh Gilbert and fiancé Paul of Huntingburg; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Morris Garsnett and wife Fidella of Indianapolis.

Leonard Tripp, 92, of Bedford, formerly of Shoals, passed away on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at StoneBridge Health Campus.
Born Oct. 4, 1924, in Dunn, N.C., he was the son of Moses and Florence (Messer) Tripp. He married Georgiana Stratil, on Aug. 6, 1944; and she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 2016.
Leonard was a retiree of the United States Navy, and NWSC Crane. He was a farmer for 35 years. He was a member of Dive Christian Church, the V.F.W, and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.
Surviving are his son, Gary (Rowena) Tripp of Shoals; daughter, Judy Tripp of New Jersey; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 72 years, Georgiana; five brothers; and three sisters.

Judy was a homemaker and owner of Switzerland County Auction Center and the Huron Store. She was a member of Switzerland County Community Church, and she loved to cook and read cookbooks.

Rathmial “Ralph” Lee Phillips, 91, of Bloomington, died Friday, August 4, 2017, in IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
He was born May 8, 1926, in Wayne County, Kentucky, to Logan W. Phillips and Bessie Thompson Phillips. He had worked in many stone mills for over 40 years and retired from Bybee Stone Mill.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil (Edna) Phillips and Keith (Pam) Phillips, both of Springville; three daughters, Debbie Taylor of Martinsville, Janie (Bill Goveia) Powell and Dee Dee (Donnie) Mullis both of Bloomington; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Ruth Anna Russell and Judy Phillips; a daughter, Wilma Mynatt; a grandson, Greg Phillips; two brothers, Coy and Cordis; and two sisters, Elvena and Ludy Jane.
Ralph was a great man who was funny and always put a smile on those around him. He had worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression; was a former Golden Gloves Boxing Champion; and enjoyed hunting for ginseng and mushrooms, fishing, camping and square dancing.
There will be a private memorial service at a later date. Interment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel.

Born March 18, 1956, in Lawrence County, Indiana, he was the son of Paul and Pauline (Brown) Girdley.
He was a graduate of Shawswick High School. Paul worked as the Plant Operator for the City of Bloomington Water Filtration Plant. He was a former member of the Bedford Boat Club and the Eagles.
Surviving are one daughter, Alecia Perry, of Bedford; one son, Andrew (Heaven) Girdley, of Bedford; four grandchildren, Brayden Perry, Levi Perry, Riley Girdley, and Zander Strunk; two sisters, Helen England and Deanna Dyer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Clarence Brown officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Geneva Ren’ee “Gini” Todd Cole, 60, of Mitchell, passed away Friday July 21, 2017. Gini went to be with her God while at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood, following a four-month illness.
Gini was born Nov. 11, 1956, in Bedford, to Paula Day Player and Henry (Bud) Todd. She graduated from Bedford High School.
After graduation she moved to Florida. She resided there until 2006, when she and her husband decided to move back to her hometown.
Gini was happiest surrounded by friends and family, where she could talk their ear off, or on the deck at home with her husband Ron, who survives.
She is also survived by three sons, Shawn (Tiffany), Justin (Allison), and Joshua; six grandchildren, Riley, Mason, Cy, Shawn, Will and Sarah. Gini was the oldest of seven children, five who survive; brothers, Jeffrey, Michael, John, Jay; and sister, Carisma (Len). Gini is also survived by her parents, Paula Day Player and Henry (Bud) Todd (Suzi); paternal aunts, Susie Gilmore and Ann Bright; along with numerous loving cousins.
Preceding her in death was her youngest brother, Joel Lloyd Player lll, on Nov. 12, 2011.
Gini was loved very much by all those who knew her. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Patricia Ann Porter, 76, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born April 25, 1941, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Sam and Rosie (Reynolds) Edmonson.
Patricia had been employed at Mitchell Manor and Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed puzzle books.
Survivors include her children, Donna (Lonnie) Mitchell of Salem, Randy Porter of Mitchell, and Diane Jarvis of Springfield, Texas; father of her children, Harry Porter of Mitchell; grandsons, Eric Mitchell and Devon Milligan; great grandson, Paxtin Mitchell; and sister, Penny Grubb of Mitchell.
Her parents and brother, Rodney Edmonson, preceded her in death.

Born on Dec. 14, 1936, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Durward and Helen Lantz Allen, both of whom preceded her in death. In March, 1955, in Jackson County, she married Donald L. Fleetwood and he survives.

Betty Arlene (Roycroft) Marusak, 88, of Williams, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at StoneBridge Health Center in Bedford.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Feb. 13, 1929, to Tadeusz Slomczewski (name later changed to Alfred Roycroft) and Sophie (Rydzewski) Roycroft.
Betty married Henry Paul Marusak on July 26, 1947, and was the loving mother of eight children.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society.
She was an avid reader and member of the Red Hat Society and Book Club. Betty lived a faith filled life and gladly shared her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Betty is survived by her children, James (Maria) Marusek of Bloomfield, Kathy (John) McCoy of Camarillo, Calif., David Marusek of Fairbanks, Alaska; Rose Ann (Bill) Brenner of Bedford; Mark (Kathleen) Marusak, Lakewood, Calif.; Daniel (Bertha) Marusek, Newport News, Va.; and Marie (John) Pearson of Lexington, Ky.; 18 grandchildren, Heather Brown, Carrie Polin, Tim McCoy, Tom McCoy, Kristin McCoy-Ward, Kalina Grabinski-Marusek, Andrew Brenner, Steven Brenner, Jennifer Brenner, Suzi Brenner, Julie Finger, Matthew Marusak, Martin Marusek, Monica Rey, Ashley Wynn, Amy Scalf, Troy Marusek and Christina Marusek; 12 great-grandchildren; and her youngest sister, Shirley Jankowski of Hendersonville, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Arnott Roycroft; two of her sisters, Doris Terpin and Grace Harszlak; and her youngest son, Damian Marusek.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to Hope Resource Center in Bedford.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes.

Emily Jean Hawkins, 58, of Bedford died at 8:03 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born July 29, 1959, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Norris Dean and Gayle (Perkins) McIntyre. She married Randy Joe Hawkins on Dec. 27, 1978, and he survives.
She was an immensely talented interior decorator and an event planner for charitable organizations. She was a member of the Dive Christian Church and Ideal Club of Bedford.
Survivors include her husband, Randy of Bedford; a son, Heath Randy Hawkins and wife Angel Eva of Bedford; a granddaughter, Lilly Jean Hawkins; nieces and nephews, Rick McIntyre and wife Marisa of Lake Mary, Fla., Emily Turner and husband Will of Carmel, David McIntyre and fiancé Annie Blackwell of Indianapolis; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Richard D. “Rick” McIntyre.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Dive Christian Church with Johnny Johnson, Joe McAdams and Matt Courtney officiating. Burial will follow in the Dive Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until the service on Friday at the Dive Christian Church.
Pallbearers are Heath Hawkins, Jerry Hawkins, Jon Maze, Rick McIntyre, David McIntyre, Justin Pogue, Will Turner and Joey Elliott.
Honorary Pallbearer: Randy Hawkins.
The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Dive Christian Church Building Fund or the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.

Dorothy Eileen Farris, 95, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Garden Villa, Bedford.
Born Nov. 29, 1921, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Verlie (Flinn) Box. She married Desco Farris on March 23, 1957. He preceded her in death in May of 1998.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Tunnelton High School Class of 1940. She worked as a waitress at the Elks and American Legion in Bloomington and the Bedford Moose Club.
Surviving are one daughter, Carol Martz (Roger) Kern of Bonita Springs, Fla., formerly of Bedford; two grandchildren, Troy Kern of Bedford and Tracey Kern (Greg) Stilley of Greenwood; great-grandchildren, Tasha (Michael) Parsley, Kayla (Zack) Jones, Hannah Smoot, Emily Smoot and Olivia, Alyssa and Harrison Stilley; several great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane Hamilton of Bedford; sister-in- law, Jewel Box; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roland “Bud” Box and Kenneth Box; and one daughter, Connie Martz in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Pastor Phil Thorne officiating. Burial will be in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in French Lick.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

Ronnie K. Patton, 74, of Oolitic, died at 8:49 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Garden Villa.
Born March 26, 1943, in Sullivan, he was the son of Chester and Dorothy Elizabeth (Holtsclaw) Patton. He married Auda Diane Thomas on July 17, 1966, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1993.
He retired as an electronics technician at NWSC Crane and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Barrett and husband Jim of Bedford and Auda Marie Wooten and husband Jerry of Austin; four grandchildren, Stephanie Lake and husband Stephen, Shane Hackler and wife Courtney, Matthew Lintz and Stevie Lintz, all of Bedford; and four sisters, Pauline Lenhart of Terre Haute, Linda Wilson of Plainfield, Dorothy Ollivier of Toledo, Ohio, and Sharon Payne Harper of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Vernon Patton and Chet Patton; and a stepson, Mark Tolbert.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Mike Eads officiating.
Visitation will be from noon until the service Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
There will be a private burial at a later date in Beech Grove Cemetery.
