April 30, 2021 James “Jimmy” Lee Sweigart Oct. 08, 1964 — April 28, 2021 James “Jimmy” Lee Sweigart, 56, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at I. U. Health Hospice House of Bloomington. He was born Oct. 8, 1964 in New Castle, Indiana, to James Sweigart and Jane (Lee) Davis. Jimmy attended the First United Methodist Church and was a six-year member of the Tennessee National Guard. He was a retired large truck mechanic and enjoyed working on cars and riding his motorcycle. Jimmy is survived by his son, J. Dalton Sweigart; two grandchildren; several cousins; and several aunts and uncles. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents. Harris, 87, of Bloomington, IN, passed away at 10:05 am on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Golden Living Center in Bloomington, IN. Born July 30, 1933 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Glen and Iva Lucille (Pitman) Harris. He was a carpenter, a barber and veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church and his hobby was wine making. Survivors include a sister, Patricia M. Chambers and husband, Carl, of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Herman K. Harris, and a sister Phyllis Eagan. Born September 30, 1959, in Bedford, he was the son of James Hubert and Dorothy Ruth (Mundy) Workman. Mark had been employed at Indiana University and was an avid IU fan. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1977. Surviving are his daughter, Candace (Matthew) Medlock of Bedford; step-children, Mandie Gerkin of Bedford, Stephanie Gerkin of Bedford; father, James H. Workman of Mitchell; two grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren; siblings, Marilyn (Jim) Workman-Harkness of Mitchell, Mike Workman of Mitchel, Myra (Darren) Smith of Bedford. His mother and partner, Patrick Enis, preceded him in death. Condolences may be expressed at www.chastainfuneralhome.com Terry Lee Hayes Aug. 12, 1945 — April 27, 2021 Terry Lee Hayes, 75, passed away April 27, 2021, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis after a long battle with cancer. He was born Aug 12, 1945, to the late Alvin and Ruth (Hillenburg) Hayes. Terry graduated from Smithville High School and attended Indiana University. Terry served as President of Smithville High School Alumni Association for a number of years. He had a special fondness for the school and never forgot Smithville and his many friends there. He had many stories about playing basketball as a “Skibo.” After graduating he enrolled at Indiana University and made the freshman basketball team. Unfortunately, due to an injury his career was short, but he always remained loyal to IU and their sports programs, especially the basketball program. Terry also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Terry was President of Hayes Chevrolet, Oldsmobile & Pontiac and served on the General Motors Dealer Council for several years. After selling the dealership, he started Hayes Group, becoming an independent dealer of specialty vehicles and a residential home builder. He and his wife Gloria loved to travel, if only taking short trips. Terry loved to seek out little, out of the way eateries. Terry was an automobile enthusiast, and especially loved the Corvette. He also loved architecture and on their travels always tried to find the old historic districts. Terry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Jeanne (Fields) Hayes; his brother, Darry Don (Barbara) Hayes; his sister, Glenda Charlene (Stephen) Maddox; brother-in-law, Tracy Scott Fields; and sister-in-law, Kathy (Ivan) Martindale. He is also survived by nephews, Matthew Hayes, Dustin Maddox and Thomas Martindale; nieces, Nedra (Andrew) Basinger, Stephanie Clark (Tracy Mack) and Meleah (James) Monroe; several great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew. Terry had a big heart and felt it was a privilege to help the less fortunate. He never met a stranger and his stories will be missed by his family and many friends. She was born in Beacon Falls, New York, on June 10, 1947, to Maurice and Chrystal Mae (Merrow) Hamlin. Constance graduated from Valley Central High School. Following high school, she worked at Champion in Montgomery, New York, for over 20 years. She also worked at Bell Cleaners, Mamma’s Inc., and Golden Corral, which are all located in Bedford, Indiana. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, cards, and playing Tetris. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and her dog. He was the father of James Caudill and wife Kay and Sarah Powell and husband Corey, all of Corbin, Kentucky, and Jesse Caudill and wife Becky and Samantha Hess and husband Tyler, all of London, Kentucky; the brother of Robert Wade Caudill and wife Athena and Tommy Caudill and Denise, all of Bedford, Beth Turner and husband James of Bloomington, and William Franklin Caudill and wife Stephanie of London, Kentucky. Condolences may be expressed at www.londonfuneralhome.com Robert “Bob” Bowdren Dec. 31, 1960 — April 27, 2021 Robert “Bob” Bowdren, 60, of Bedford passed away on Tuesday April 27, 2021 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on December 31, 1960 in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania the son of James Ignatius and Dorothy Mae (Kramer) Bowdren. Bob was a 1978 graduate of Olney High School in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. He first started working at Restaurant’s for Roy Rogers and Pizza Hut, after that he worked in retail at Macy’s and The Gap, he also worked in the Box office for the Virginia Opera Company, after moving to Bloomington, Indiana Bob went to work for 14 years at the Village Pantry on the IU campus. Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Philadelphia. He was a movie buff and enjoyed going to the movies, he loved old cars and could tell what kind and the year made by just looking at them, he was a dog lover, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Bob is survived by his partner, Clarence “Clancy” Alexander of Bedford; his sister, Barbara (David) Detwiller of Jeffersonville, PA; eight nieces and nephews, Phil Jr.; Kimberly; James II; Shannon’ Edward Jr; Shawn; Timothy and Jamie; and eleven great nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Stephanie (Tim) Rexing; a brother-in-law, Patrick (Kari) Alexander. April 28, 2021 Charles H. “Charlie” Eagan Aug. 30, 1931 — April 25, 2021 Charles H. “Charlie” Eagan, 89, of Bedford, passed away at 12:30 pm, Sunday, April 25, 2021. Born August 30, 1931 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Ora Thomas and Ethel Blanche (Lewis) Eagan. He married Elizabeth Jane Lake on June 17, 1950 and she survives. He was a tool and dye worker for General Motors and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Old Country Church in Harrodsburg. He loved to fish, coon hunt and spend time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Bedford; five children, Charla Key, of Salem, Randy Eagan and wife, Nancy, of Orleans, Dana Hazel and husband, James, of Freedom, Dawn Douglas and husband, Carl, and Laura Gore and husband, Danny, all of Bedford; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Eagan and Sandra, of Williams. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children. He was born on January 20, 1939 in Double Springs, Alabama to Jasper King and Nanny Lee (Hicks) King. He married Viles L. “Bibi” Jones on September 12, 1959 in Muncie and she survives. Ed was a graduate of Muncie Central High School, he was a retired factory supervisor at Essex and Warner Machine, member of Calvary Baptist Church, he loved the outdoors and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Bibi King, one son Bob King and wife Dawn, one daughter, Shanda Wells and husband James, grandson, Jesse, three sisters, Ginny, Jane, and Mary Ellen, brothers, Dewayne and Billy, several nieces and nephews, special friend, Robin Saunders. April 27, 2021 Donald W. “Don” Ingle Nov. 22, 1936 — April 24, 2021 Donald W. “Don” Ingle, 84, of Bedford, passed away at 11:45 pm on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital. Born November 22, 1936 in Bloomington, he was the son of Kenneth Everette and Mary Elizabeth Susan (Cropp) Ingle. He married Lana Kay Fultz on May 28, 1983 and she preceded him in death April 17, 2016. He retired from the Times-Mail Newspaper as a printer. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard and Hillcrest Christian Church. Survivors include three sons, Mark Ingle and wife, Peggy, of Springville, Jeff Ingle and wife, Barbara, Chad Robertson and wife, Kim, all of Bedford; two daughters, Lori Ingle, of Corydon and Cherie Patton and husband, Derek, of Bedford; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, James Ingle and wife, Linda, of Indianapolis; sisters-in-law, Marsha, Bonnie and Susie Ingle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Kenneth Ingle. “I always wanted to be a newspaper man.” He started as a paper boy and then followed in the foot-steps of his father, Kenny, who had worked at the Bloomington Herald-Telephone. Don started at the Times-Mail in 1966 in the composing department, he was a type-setter, and eventually mailroom foreman. He and his co-workers were often seen “holding up” the corner of 16th and ‘H’ Street. After his retirement from the newspaper, he could be found as the miller at Spring Mill State Park. He and Lana built many friendships at the park, camping, square dancing, volunteering, and supper club. They enjoyed winter trips to Florida and going to car races in the summer. In his early years, he loved riding his motorcycle and could be seen in the middle of winter riding it to work and passed that passion on to his sons. He was a dedicated son who visited his mother every day after work and continued that kind of love to his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 1st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Charlie Scott officiating. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on Nov. 10, 1948, to Eugene T. and Anne (Smith) Dmytryk. He is survived by his wife Nicki (Kinton); also his sister, Jeanne Drone; brothers, Denny (Patty) and Mark; one nephew, Marc Dmytryk; one neice, Maureen Dmytryk; and two stepchildren, Jason Burch and Cary Burch. He graduated from St. Louis University and St. Louis University Medical School. He practiced surgery in Bedford until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed many things in his life, golf, scuba diving, gardening, fishing and boating. But the thing he will be most remembered by was his great love of collies. Boo is grieving for him now. April 25, 2021 Timothy Kieth Staley Jan. 04, 1948 — April 23, 2021 Timothy Kieth Staley, 73, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021, at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick. Born January 4, 1948, in Oolitic, he was the son of Gilbert and Maxine (Hubbard) Staley. He married Anne Marie (Chambers) Mundy July 4, 1991, and she preceded him in death April 17, 2005. Tim had been employed 20 years at Regal-Beloit and retired from General Electric. He was a 1966 graduate of Oolitic High School and an active member of Southland Church of Christ. Tim enjoyed auctions and yard sales and was a “Papaw” to everyone. Tim was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Born June 22, 1928, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Alma D. (Dillman) Lambrecht. She married James Kenneth Root November 4, 1949, and he preceded her in death February 17, 1990. Elizabeth retired from Mitchell Community Schools and had served as an aide and junior high school secretary. She was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ and Ascension St. Vincent Dunn Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies. Elizabeth was a piano teacher and an avid knitter of 108 afghans which were all donated with love. She graduated from Shawswick High School in 1947. Surviving are her children, Martha (Marc) Fields of Mitchell, Larry (Jane) Root of Mitchell; grandchildren, Andrew (Casey) Fields, Mitch (Amber) Fields, Jessica (Amit) Patel, Kristi (CJ ) Lee, and Amy (Westin) Williamson; and 11 great-grandchildren. Coursey, loving mom and grandma, passed away at the age of 98, at her residence. Norma was born March 26, 1923 in Martin Co., she was the daughter of Henry Aden and Mayme Ferrell (Roberts) Taylor. She married Roy O. Thompson on December 15, 1941 and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1965. She later married Wayne C. Coursey on May 17, 1990 and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1994. Norma spent many years caring for her parents. Her philosophy on life was if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. She was a cook at Springville Elementary School and retired in 1985 as a cafeteria cook for Parkview Elementary School and was a founding member of the Oak Grove Pentecostal Church. Dennis was born on December 23, 1953, in Bedford, Indiana to James Malcolm and Veineta Carolyn (Johnson) Prunty. He graduated from Needmore High School in 1972, and then worked at Brunner Engineering and Sarkes Tarzian before moving on to work at RCA for 27 years. On December 31, 1983, he married Kimberly Eugenia Wilson. They raised two children: Brandi and Michael. Dennis was a cat lover whose hobbies included family time, gun collecting, CB radio, and working on and building radios and computers. His passion, however, was amateur radio (HAM). As an amateur radio operator, Dennis (KB9HJW) was a storm spotter for the SKYWARN network, reporting local storm conditions to the National Weather Service. He was also a member of the Bloomington Amateur Radio Club, where he volunteered for many years as a communicator in events such as the Hilly Hundred and the Red Eye Relay. To know Tiny was to love him. He never knew a stranger. He was known for his quick wit, his big heart, and his ability to tell a whopper of a story. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, James and Veineta, brother, James Earl Prunty, his sister Beverly Annette Weigle, his brother-in-law, Jimmy Brock, his niece, Toni Anne Brock, and his father-in-law, Charles Wilson. Jack’s passing occurred one day after his beloved wife’s funeral service. Jack and Catherine were married 71 years. Jack was the full-time caregiver for Catherine for the past 5 years. Jack was retired from management at Carpenter Body Works, having given 33 years to the company and co-workers he loved. Employed there as a very young man, he had great admiration and respect for the elder Mr. Ralph Carpenter, founder of the company. After retirement, Jack worked for several years at Bedford North Lawrence High School. Jack served on the North Lawrence Community Schools Board of Trustees for 8 years, including the period for school reorganization in the 1970’s. He was a member of the Pinhook Church of Christ. Jack was a great provider for his family, but always took plenty of time for camping trips and family vacations through the years. Jack and Catherine also traveled the country and beyond with best friends Bill and Mary Mattox. Jack’s sport passion was basketball. He enjoyed high school basketball and was a faithful Indiana Pacers fan. The daughter of Harold and Mary Marshall Strange, Rosie was born in Orleans, Indiana, June 27, 1928. Rosie was a lady who was given many names during her life, and she responded to all with love. She was raised in Orleans, Indiana, and graduated from Orleans High School in 1946. While her parents called her by her given name of Betty Rose, her brother Larry gave her the nickname “Bep.” Her Orleans family and friends called her Betty, but she acquired another name when she met the love of her life, Raymond “Bud” Farlow. She was an Orleans Bulldog cheerleader, and Bud was a Paoli Rambler basketball player. Through their encounters as opponents on the basketball court, a spark was ignited into a lifelong flame that lasted 68 years until Bud passed in 2016. Bud chose to call her Rosie, and they wed August 6, 1947. When they put down their roots in Paoli, the name Rosie stuck. In later years, Bud often referred to her as “Rosabell,” usually when he was teasingly reminding her that she was the real boss of the family. As their family grew, so did the list of names. Over the years, Rosie learned to respond to Mother, Mom, Momma Rose, Mammaw Rosie, and Mammaw Ro-Ro. Each name was given and accepted with love. Rosie was employed at Indiana Handle Company from 1963-1970 as the bookkeeper. When she decided she wanted to venture into the business world, she purchased a women’s apparel store in Orleans, Indiana, and named it Betty’s Shoppe. She enjoyed her time and success as an entrepreneur, but in 1977 she sold the business to spend more time with her family. An accomplished seamstress, Rosie made clothes for her daughters when they were younger, including elaborate Easter Parade outfits and Halloween costumes. She loved quilting, shopping for antiques and collectibles, and rooting for her favorite sports teams. Rosie loved music. She said this must have come naturally because her mother was listening to an Orleans Band concert the night she was born. She enjoyed listening to music so much that in her later years she had her own playlists on Youtube that she listened to on her IPad. Just listening wasn’t enough, so Rosie learned to play the piano. While all of these things brought her great pleasure, some of the most memorable moments in her life were when she was traveling. From early family vacations to Florida with their three daughters to the five trips she made to Canada with Bud to fish, Rosie explored, absorbed, and captured the experiences in many, many scrapbooks. She and Bud traveled the United States often in a motorhome. They visited every state except Hawaii and North Dakota. Family members and friends often accompanied them on their excursions, and all came home with an understanding that if you traveled with Rosie, you were guaranteed to have a wonderful time. Rosie is survived by three daughters, Karen Doan, Kathy Seacat (Eldon), and Sara Purdom (Allan); seven grandchildren, Todd Trinkle (Melanie), Chad Trinkle (Richard Pompa), Andrea Price (Tony), Evan Seacat (Samantha), Kelsey Cook (Michael), Emily Purdom, and Nick Purdom; and eight great-grandchildren, Cooper Trinkle, Grant Trinkle, Bryant Trinkle, Tyler Price, Lincoln Seacat, Calum Price, Scarlett Seacat, and Olivia Cook. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond “Bud” Farlow, her parents and two siblings, Larry Dean Strange and Jimmie DuWayne Strange. A lady of great faith, Rosie was raised a Baptist, and when she married Bud she became a member of the Paoli Friends Meeting where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. No matter the denomination, Rosie maintained her relationship with her Lord through prayer and music. One of the last songs she played on the piano, at the age of 92, was “Amazing Grace.” She was a true testament of a woman who lived a rich and fulfilling life. She loved politics and basketball. She felt strongly about helping those in need and always rooted for the underdog. Marilyn was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and friend. April 05, 2021 Karen Lee Nash Nov. 08, 1944 — April 03, 2021 Karen Lee Nash entered eternal rest on April 3, 2021, in Bloomington, IN at the age of 76. Karen was born on November 8, 1944, in Lawrence County to Leland and Maxine (Burton) Atchison. She graduated from Mitchell High School, where she met the love of her life, Roger Nash. They married on November 17, 1962, and started their family in Mitchell. Karen retired from GE in Bloomington, where she made many friends, was known for her sense of humor and took pride in being “the flag lady.” Roger and Karen welcomed three children who were always close by. As their children grew, the home was never empty- as a lover of all things 2- and 4- legged, Karen loved her “babies” and played a very active role in each of her grandkids’ lives. She passed on her sense of adventure to all of them, some of their best memories being fun country drives, thrift store shopping, working in her flower beds, attending church with her, and always being fed some great food. She made the best jelly in the world. Karen’s love of gardening also led her to work at Spring Mill State Park in the Pioneer Village. Karen was always crocheting and completed thousands of hats and blankets to give to family and donate to local churches and hospitals. Karen also devoted her life to her faith, attending East Oolitic Community Church for decades, always brainstorming and capturing ideas for the weekly message on the sign. She was 81. Betty entered this life on July 5, 1939 in Bloomington Indiana. She was the daughter of Nicolas and Dorothy (Terrell) Hardin. Betty grew up in Bedford and was raised by Berl and Mary (Anderson) Meadows. She was the sister to David Anderson. On November 7, 1959 at the age of 20 she was united in marriage to Willard J. Brown Sr. This union of 45 years was blessed with a son Willard, Jr. and a daughter, Tammy. Willard preceded on September 21, 2005. She was of Christian Faith, a devoted wife, loving mother, and Grandma. She was a stay-at-home mother that loved solving crossword puzzles. Betty was an avid BINGO player and would be at BINGO night at the Leesville Community Center. She survived by her children Willard J.
