Erma J. Hendricks Burton, 83, of Bedford, died peacefully at 2:36 p.m. on Monday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Oct. 6, 1931, in Dugger, she was the daughter of Ives E. and Dorval (Sipes) Hendricks.

She retired as a home health caregiver and had worked for RCA and Sarkes-Tarzian in Bloomington.

Erma was a loving caring mother to her five children and her grandchildren. She loved her flower garden and sewing for her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Hoshaw and husband Bud of Florida, Debbie Burton of Bedford and Alice Herrington and husband Gary of Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Thomas and William Burton, both of Bedford; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill Hendricks; and three sisters, Zella Campbell, Donna Moore and Maxine Hendricks.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Visitation will be from noon until the service on Saturday at the mortuary.

Mary Teegen Frazier, 85, went home to be with her Lord at 10:20 p.m. Monday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Born Dec. 10, 1929, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of William Clyde and Harriet (Mann) Brown. She married Kenneth Wallace Teegen July 6, 1953, and he preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1958. Her second marriage was to Eugene Frazier April 4, 1996, and he preceded her in death July 2, 2001.

Mary had been employed at Woolworth’s and served as meter maid for the City of Bedford. She retired as manager of Camelot Court in Mitchell and Orleans. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1948, and was a member of Englewood Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth (Shirley) Teegen of Mitchell; grandsons, Leif Aaron (Deanna) Teegen of Noblesville and John Wesley (Alex) Teegan of Indianapolis; great-grandsons, Ethan Teegen and Noah Westover; stepchildren, Paula Caudell, Ron Frazier, Don Frazier and Gene Allen Frazier; sisters, Barbara Beeler of Mitchell, Ruth J. Pace of Greenwood and Carolyn S. McGrath of Loogootee; and nieces and nephews, Randy Beeler, Greg Brown, Rudy Brown, Bobby Brown, Jim Beasley, Jerry Beasley, Joe Beasley, Cindy Miller, Tammy Pace and Jan Quillen.

Her parents; husbands; brothers, John Lewis Brown and Robert James Brown; and nephew, Mike Brown, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Friday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor David Ferry and Pastor Gary Thomas officiating.

Lester J. ‘Jack’ McGuire

Aug. 13, 1938 — April 28, 2015

Lester Jackson “Jack” McGuire, 76, of Bloomfield passed away Tuesday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Aug. 13, 1938, in Monroe County, he was the son of Clovis Charles and Ruemma Jane (Baker) McGuire.

Jack was retired from GM Powertrain in Bedford as a maintenance welder, he was a member of the Iron Workers Union, Little Cincinnati Christian Church and the Solsberry Masonic Lodge.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Pauline McGuire; one daughter, Jackque (Berry) Whaley; two grandsons, Rhett Whaley and Reece Whaley, all of Bloomfield; his siblings, Patricia McGuire of San Antonio, Texas, Dave McGuire of Solsberry, Marlene Gunter of Pelion, S.C., John McGuire of Bloomington, Eleanor Mann of Heltonville, Jim McGuire of Fayetteville and Bill McGuire of Pelion, S.C.

Jack was preceded in death by two sons, Bryan McGuire and infant Bobby Joe McGuire; one sister, Bonnie Sowders; and his parents.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Cincinnati Christian Church and from 1 p.m. until the service on Friday at the Church.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Cincinnati Christian Church with the Rev. Tony Stinson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery in Bloomington.

Etevise (Enesi) Todd, 62, Mitchell, died Wednesday at Indiana University Health Bedford.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1952 in American, Samoa to Perekina and Ve’a (Avegalio) Enesi. She married Frank E. Todd on Feb. 25, 1978, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

She served 12 years in the U.S.M.C., and worked at Garden Villa in Bedford. She enjoyed gospel music and spending all the time she could with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her mother, Ve’a Enesi; husband, Frank E. Todd; children, Rickie (Deanna) Todd and Ve’a (Jeremy) Saunders; brothers, Enesi Perekina Enesi and Sekio Enesi; sisters, Makerita Enesi, Tui Enesi, Isapela Enesi-Coggins and Fa’ailoilo Enesi; six grandchildren, Maddox, Raiden and Aralyn Todd, Ethan and Asiah Saunders and Rickie Romans; nine nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her father, Perekina Enesi.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday and from noon until service time at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville with Pastor Enesi Perekina Enesi officiating. Burial will follow at Bartlettsville Christian Church Cemetery.

William Scott Dye, 59, of Shoals, passed away at 1:32 a.m. on Friday at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1955, in Washington, to Patsy (Hitchcock) Dye and the late Henry W. Dye.

Survivors include his mother, Patsy Dye of Shoals; one brother, David (Lu Ann) Dye of Shoals; and two sisters, Karen Dye of Shoals and Susan Dye of Evansville.

He was preceded in death by his father Henry W. Dye.

Scott was a member of the Shoals United Methodist Church where he served as a church trustee and was a member of the Methodist Men. For 38 years he worked at Red Door Industries of Martin County and served on the Daviess-Martin County Board of Directors for Four Rivers Resource Services. His work at the Red Door included working at the Shoals Fire Department, JayC Food Store in Shoals, Loogootee and Washington, and volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Scott was an honorary firefighter for the Shoals Fire Department for 20 years. He was a manager for Little League Baseball and All Star Tourney Teams for many years and the Shoals Junior High Basketball this past year.

Scott rarely met a stranger. He loved attending sporting events and was a supporter of the Shoals Jug Rox, Barr Reeve Vikings and Loogootee Lions. He enjoyed watching and listening to the IU Hoosiers, Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Shoals United Methodist Church, with viewing from noon until the hour of service. Pastors Joseph Seger and Delbert Stoll will officiate the service. Burial will be made in Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shoals United Methodist Church or Shoals Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Rosemary M. Knight

Feb. 1, 1927—April 26, 2015

Rosemary Marie Knight, 88, Bedford, passed away at 12:21 a.m. Sunday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Feb. 1, 1927, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of William Dexter and Ida Elizabeth (Lewis) Milligan. She marrie Ellis Howard Knight on May 31, 1951, and he preceded her in death.

Rosemary was a homemaker and a graduate of Mitchell High School in 1947. She was a member of the Bedford First Church of the Nazarene and attended the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the Senior Bowling Team.

Surviving are daughters, Christina Ann Knight of Nashville, Tenn., and Telena (Joe) Deckard of Bloomington; grandchildren, Aaron and Crystal; great-grandson, Kahlel Honeycutt; brother Elza Milligan of Mitchell; and sisters, Juliaetta Collins of Orleans and Pauline Brim of Mitchell.

Her parents; husband; and four sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Matt Moore officiating. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the service at the church.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hop Cemetery.

Shirley J. Webster

March 30, 1938—April 24, 2015

Shirley Jane Webster, 77, passed away at 11:29 p.m. Friday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born March 30, 1938, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Ralph and Fannie Mae (Colar) Tolliver. She married James Blaine Webster and he preceded her in death July 31, 1990.

Shirley had been employed at the Times-Mail and attended the First Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

Surviving: children, Danny Scott (Debra) Wagner of Bedford, LuAnn (Homer) Roberts of Martinsville, Tom (Bonita) Wagner of Mitchell, Kelly (Gary) Stroud of Williams, and Matthew Webster of Mitchell; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Brenda Magers of Bedford.

Her parents; husband; son, David Wayne Wagner; and siblings, Edith Lantz, Ralph Tolliver, Mildred Schlenker, Catherine Tolliver, Donald Tolliver, Thelma Eagan, Chet Tolliver, and Rosie Brown, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Haverly Funeral Chapel with Homer Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Neil A. Shafer

Feb. 27, 1971—April 24, 2015

Neil A. Shafer, 44, of Mitchell, passed away on Friday at his residence.

He was born in Anderson on Feb. 27, 1971, to Steve and Peggy (Dixon) Shafer. Neil was a graduate of Anderson Highland High School, he married Marybeth Penry in 1990 in Anderson and she survives.

Neil was a die setter at General Motors Powertrain in Bedford, he also worked for General Motors in Anderson and in Minnesota. He had been at the Bedford plant for the last 16 years, he is a member of the U.A.W Local 440 in Bedford.

Survivors include his wife, Marybeth Shafer of Mitchell; two daughters, Reanna Shafer and Jessi Shafer, both of Mitchell; his parents, Steve and Peggy Shafer of Gas City; and two sisters, Nora Earhart of Kansas and Valerie Bankson of Gas City.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford, burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. April 25, 2015 Danny Beyers Oct. 24, 1942 — April 20, 2015

Danny A Beyers, 72, passed away peacefully on Monday evening at Core Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford. He had been a resident of Core for four years.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan (Shisler) Beyers; sons, Marc and Eric (wife Robin) Beyers; four grandchildren; his brother, Michael P. Beyers and wife Jonnie; and his sister, Diana (Beyers) Swafford and husband Jerry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Claudine (Ranard) Beyers.

Born in Bloomington on Oct. 24, 1942, Danny loved golf and fishing. He also loved gardening, and during his tenure with the City of Bloomington, helped develop its first nursery and planted many of the trees which surround the downtown square today.

Danny met Susan at Cascades Golf Course in 1980, and the couple married in her grandfather’s orchard in Thompson, Ohio, in 1982. The couple relocated to the Orlando, Fla., area shortly thereafter. Danny then began his career in real estate, and he became a Licensed Real Estate Broker.

The couple’s careers took them from Orlando to Houston, Texas and eventually they settled in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and his wife resides in Arlington, Texas.

Danny will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Stidd officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Following the memorial service, a celebration of his life will be held at Nick’s Restaurant and bar and everyone is invited to share stories and memories.

Jewell E. Shuler

Sept. 10, 1934 — April 23, 2015

Jewell E. Shuler, 81, of Orleans, passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday at Mitchell Manor.

She was born Sept. 10, 1934, in St. Charles, Va., the daughter of Paul Henry and Grace Mae (Mullins) Eagle She married Howard Shuler on Dec. 26, 1952, and he survives.

She worked as a receptionist for many years, was a member of Eastern Star and was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her husband of Orleans; one daughter, Dawn Meyer of Orleans; two grandchildren, Danie Meyer-Parlapanis and Matthew Meyer; one great-grandchild, Ianthe Jewel; three sisters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and one sister.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans. Burial will follow in Syria Christian Church Cemetery.

Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday.

Jesse Lee Mills, 38, Bedford, was called home to Heaven on Sunday, March 29, 2015.

He was the son of Larry and Cheryl Lynn (Martin) Mills. His mother survives.

He was the father of two beloved children: son, Issac Mills, and daughter, Kaitlyn Mills.

Jesse’s survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Nyoka Mills; nephews, B.J. Mills and Zachary Mills; niece, Brilyn Mills; stepbrother, Jay Floyd; and stepfather, Dave Smith; with several other family and long-time friends.

He was preceded by his father, Larry Mills; paternal grandparents, Susie and Billy Mills and maternal grandparents, Bill and Jeanette Martin.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pinhook Christian Church Cemetery with Reno Bates officiating.

Eva D. “Maw” (Stines) Hays, 70, Bedford, entered into eternity at 12:31 a.m. on Thursday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Dec. 30, 1944, in Oak Ridge, Tenn., she was the daughter of Herschel and Dorothy (Stogdill) Stines. She married Kenneth D. Hays on March 1, 1963, and he survives.

She was the owner of Maw’s Daycare and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved quilting, photography, tending her flower beds and children.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, of Bedford; three sons, Kirk Dean Hays and wife Melissa, Everett Herschel Hays and wife Crystal and Kenneth Duane Hays and wife Melanie, all of Bedford; two daughters, Barbara Denise Staker and husband Mike of Hanover, Violet Reynolds and husband Albert of Bedford; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Paul Stines and wife Jean, Herschel “Bucky” Stines and wife Louise, all of Bedford, Charles Stines of Taylorsville and David Stines of Bloomington; two sisters, Edith Tolliver and husband Wayne of Bedford and Ellen Taylor and husband Jimmy of Bloomington; a sister-in-law, Wanda Stines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Glenn, Ralph and Russell Stines; a sister, Clara Stines (in infancy); two sisters-in-law, June and Alice Stines.

Alice M. (Grubb) Folk, 93, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday at her residence.

Born Dec. 4, 1921, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Ora and Bertha (Hillenburg) Grubb. She married Ulis “Gene” Folk on June 17, 1943; he preceded her in death on March 23, 2001.

She retired from the Bedford Police Department with more than 30 years of service.

Surviving are sons, John Richard (Joyce) Folk, Wayne Edward (Teresa) Folk; daughter, Janice Arnce; sister, Bernice Inman; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ulis; one son, Ulis Jr.; daughter, Vicky Carter; five brothers; three sisters; and one grandson.

Vicky L. Hannum

July 31, 1946 — April 20, 2015

Vicky Lynn Hannum, age 68, of Rawlins, Wyo., passed away on Monday with her family at her bedside.

Vicky was born on July 31, 1946, in Bedford, to Herbert and Phyllis Thompson. Vicky attended school and graduated from Shawswick High School in 1964 and soon married her husband of 50 years, Roger Hannum, on Nov. 14, 1964.

Vicky was a switchboard operator for Indiana Bell and later worked for Rocky Mountain Bell, when the family moved to the Rocky Mountains.

Her true passion was being a mother and homemaker for her family and husband. She enjoyed crafts, spending time with her family, baking and tending to her garden. Vicky will be remembered as the organizer of the family; she was loving, compassionate and was the foundation of the Hannum home.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Hannum; son, Scott Hannum and wife, Beverly; daughter, Mandi Hannum and boyfriend, Luke Humphrey; brother, Brian Thompson and Geri; and aunt, Cathy Stewart and husband, Larry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Phyllis Thompson; and her brother, Ron Thompson.

Cremation has taken place, and the family will be holding a private service at a later date.

Born May 8, 1929, in Bloomfield, Ky., she was the daughter of William and Virginia (Humes) Duncan.

She married the Rev. Paul L. Hoskins on June 21, 1947, in Salem; he died Feb. 9, 2012.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Mitchell and had worked for over 30 years for Evangelistic Faith Mission.

Surviving are two sons, Paul A. (Jean Amico) Hoskins of Mitchell, and Roger D. (Lisa) Hoskins of Heltonville; two daughters, Karen J. (Jim Pershing) Keith of Bloomington and Carol J. (Jerome) Troy of Wilmington, Del.; grandchildren, Tina Ballard, Aaron Hoskins, J.R. Troy and Hayden Troy; one great-grandchild, Tyler Ballard; and three sisters, Ruby Burns, Joyce Powell and Barbara Kilbourne.

George A. McFall

April 17, 1942 — April 19, 2015

George Allan McFall, 73, of Mitchell, went home to be with his Lord at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday at Westview Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.

He was born to William and Lucia (Ayers) McFall on April 17,1942.

George received his masters degree and taught high school business courses. After retirement he became a resident volunteer at Hephzibah Children’s Home in Macon, Ga., where he met and married his surviving wife, Reba (Jewell) McFall.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church, 211 W. Frank St., Mitchell, with the Rev. Mark Atkinson officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

Dossie J. “D.J.” East, 94, of Warren, Mich., died April 15, 2015.

He is the beloved husband of the late Adeline; the loving father of David (Kathleen), Nancy (Kenneth) Martin, Philip, Melody, and the late Mark (Mary); proud grandfather of Melissa, Kenny, Donna, Tim, Davy, Austin, April, and the late Elizabeth; great-grandfather of Nathan, Noelle, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Levi, Christopher, Hillary, Sarah, Alexa, Dax, Nicholas, and James Kenneth; stepgrandfather of Abby, Alexandra, Brook, and Dylan.

He was preceded by his siblings: Edward, Edna, and Dessie.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from March 7, 1939 to July 6, 1945 and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He served on the USS Elliot for three years while at Pearl Harbor; the USS Radford for three months; the USS Phillip for 23 months and was a planker on the USS Keith. The final five months of his service was at NAD Crane.

Visitation was Friday and service Saturday at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, in Warren, Mich.

He was the son of Larry and Cheryl Lynn (Martin) Mills.

He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Lynn (Martin) Mills and her companion, David Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Nyoka Mills; daughter, Kaitlyn Mills and son, Issac Mills.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Mills; and grandparents, Bill and Jeanette Martin and Susie and Billy MIlls.

Mary Catherine Zuttarelli, 100, of Oolitic, died at 9 p.m. on Monday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born Nov. 23, 1914, in Alto Monte, Provincia Cosenza, Italy, she was the daughter of Ralph and Sophia (Paledino) Ross. She married Tony Zuttarelli on Aug. 18, 1934, and he died in September 1967.

She retired from RCA in Bloomington and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, James Zuttarelli of Bloomington and Ralph Zuttarelli of Bedford; two daughters, Mary Louise Morgan of Bedford and Sarah Bryant of Oolitic; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Theresa Carter of Oolitic.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two half sisters, Mary Ruth Bundy and Josephine Mosier; and a half brother, Frank Bellush Jr.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Brenda earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Indiana University in 1962 and a Master’s from Valparaiso University in 1970. She taught 34 years, the majority of her career at Knapp Elementary School. Her first year of teaching was at Parkview Elementary in Bedford, before moving to Michigan City in 1964.

She was a member of Michigan City Christian Church and formerly of Countryside Church. She taught Sunday School in Bedford and Michigan City.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington Street, Michigan City and from 10:30-11 a.m.on Wednesday at Michigan City Christian Church, 11232 Earl Road.

He was born June 11, 1958, in Bedford, to Oma Hawkins and Early Jason Hillenburg. In February of 1979, Gerald married Beverly Kinser and they were married for 18 years.

He enjoyed horseback riding, motorcycle riding, coon hunting, tinkering with automobiles and going to yard sales.

He is survived by his daughter, Dena Johnson (Jeremy Brewer) of Bedford; sisters, Jean Hayes (Bill Andis) of Heltonville and Rosemary Robertson of Bedford; grandchildren, Jaiden and Hailey Curren; and several nieces and nephews.

Born May 26, 1926, in Saltillo, she was the daughter of Leland Elbert and Martha (Hayes) Smith. She married Allen Elliott, and her second marriage was to Winfred H. Crawford on September 6, 1979. He preceded her in death January 16, 2000.

Laura Ann was a homemaker and a member of Saltillo Christian Church. Surviving are daughters, Mary Jane Hounshell of Orleans, and Nancy Elliott of Muncie; sons, Paul Elliott of West Baden Springs, and Wilbur “Gene” Elliott of Salem; stepdaughter, Sue Elliott of Orleans; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Her parents; son, Edward Leland Elliott; and siblings, Wilbur Smith, Rowena Freed, and Richard Smith, preceded her in death.

Born Sept. 15, 1923, in Palestine, Ill., he was the son of Arthur and Nannie Rose (McAndrews) Hilderbrand. He married Lois Anna Hale on Oct. 12, 1947, and she survives. He retired as the vice president and loan officer at Stone City Bank. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 735th Tank Battalion serving under General George S. Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the French Legion of Merit Award which is the highest military award given to a member of a foreign military service. He was a member of the Bedford Free Methodist Church, Bedford Lions Club, American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, Heltonville Area Veterans and VFW.

She was born June 13, 1944, in Bedford, Ind., the daughter of Allard Sr. and Elva (Jaynes) Mears.

She was a homemaker and a member of Orleans Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her one son, James Canada Jr. of Dale, Ind.; three daughters, Linda Sue (Marvin) Bailey of Loogootee, Ind., Jeanie Hampton of Bedford, Judy Hensley of Oolitic; one sister, Karen Cornett of Orleans; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson, McColley Dobson.

Dennis L. Coyle

Dennis L. Coyle, 68, of Bradenton, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015. He had bravely battled rheumatoid arthritis for almost 30 years and passed away from pulmonary complications.

He was the son of Eithel Emerson and Violet Marie Webb Coyle.

He is survived by his wife, caregiver and best friend, Cathy Sherrill Coyle; his son Scott (Jen) Coyle and daughter Leslie (Jon) Mefford, of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Jordan Wray (Darin) McCloud, Skyler Shoemaker, Alex, Gabe, Jayden and Jordan Coyle, Caitlin and Alli Mefford, all of Bedford, and Laney Shoemaker of Wisconsin; three great-grandchildren, Riley and Christopher of Bedford, and Mya of Wisconsin; brothers, Robert (Regina) Coyle of Arizona and Glenn (Lisa) Coyle of Mitchell, Ind.; his aunts, Betty Mable Napier of Illinois, Mary Miller Mosier and Elsie, Sarah, Luella and Wilma Webb of the Bedford area.

He was well known in Lawrence County for his track and cross country records while attending Fayetteville High School and attended Vincennes University on scholarship, where he continued to run, and earn more awards.

He served his country in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany. Upon returning, he started a long career in floor covering, working for Bob Charnell at Bob’s Floor Covering, and finishing at Armstrong’s Carpet with Rick and Brenda Armstrong, where he retired on disability in 1997.

He was involved in the bowling leagues in Bedford for many years and loved fishing and golf. After moving to the warmer climates of Florida for his health, he was able to enjoy his sports for several more years, just at a slower pace and was often amazed and envious of his 90-year-old golfing buddy who “walked” the golf course instead of riding with him!

He was a wonderful, gentle, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He loved life and will be sorely missed, but always thought of with fond memories and lots of laughter!

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Bedford with Bro. Jamie Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Cliff E. Sears, 86, of Silver Lake and formerly of Springville, died Tuesday at 5:10 p.m. at Wellbrooke of Wabash.

He was born July 17, 1928, to Earl and Mary Jerils Sears. He first married Annice Pauline Black in Solsberry on Dec. 14, 1951, and later married Arizona “Zonie” Dotson, on June 6, 2009 in Silver Lake.

He attended school in Oolitic. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. Cpl. Clifford Earl Sears was honorably discharged on June 23, 1950. He raised and logged timber on the family farm before going into the Air Force. He was the owner of Anvil Pest Control for 20 years, retiring in 1992. He also had worked in civil engineering at Grissom Air Force Base in pest control for eight years.

His strong faith and his family were of greatest importance to him.

He is survived by his wife, Zonie; a son, Joe (Melisa) Sears; a daughter, Melody Smith; a stepdaughter, Krystal Gail (Harold) Napier; a step-grandson, Robert Tofson of Crawfordsville, Fla.; two grandsons; two granddaughters; two step-granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annice Sears, on Jan. 13, 2008; three brothers, Roy Lee “Red”, Clayton Eugene and Everett Francis Sears; and one sister, Amelia Jane Deal.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gospel Pentecostal Church in Silver Lake with Pastor Carl Hughes of Gospel Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial will be in South Pleasant Cemetery in North Manchester. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion and VFW posts.

Carol Voris, 83, of Bedford, passed peacefully with her family at her side at 6:03 p.m. Monday at Johnson Christian Village, Bedford.

Born April 3, 1932, in Washington, IN, she was the daughter of Wilson and Helen Joyce (Furry) Chenoweth.

She spent her life teaching and sharing her love for music and for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Carol was a graduate of Shoals High School, 1950; Evansville College, with a BME, 1954 and earned her Master’s in Music Education from Indiana University, 1957; she was a lifelong teacher having taught music, grades 1-12 in Allendale, IL, 1954-1956, and then teaching for three decades at Bedford Jr. High School and Bedford High School, as well as Bedford North Lawrence High School and Shawswick Elementary and Middle Schools, during which time she also directed many musicals. Carol was a member of, and choir director at First United Methodist Church, Bedford, for over 50 years and also gave private lessons on the piano as well as the harp. Carol was also active in musical performances staged at Little Theatre of Bedford.

Surviving are one son, Joseph (Amy) Voris, Bedford; one daughter, Elizabeth Voris, Bedford; four grandchildren, Ashley (Will) Collins, Ellettsville; Drew (Devin) Lemke, Bedford; and Evan and Emma Voris, Bedford; one great-grandchild, Aubriana Collins; one brother, John (Carolyn) Chenoweth, AR; one sister, Susan (Bent) Olsen, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one niece.

April 30, 1954 — April 12, 2015

Diane F. Chandler, 60, Bedford, passed away at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

She was born on Friday, April 30, 1954, in Crystal Springs, Miss., to the late Charles J. and Elizabeth A. (Rollins) Chandler.

Diane worked at Ford/Visteon for more than 28 years and attended Bedford High School. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Survivors include her daughters, Christy Cole (Jim Elliott) of Bedford and Heather (Patrick) Reed of Bloomfield; one grandson, Dalton Reed; two sisters, Shelley (Kenny) Goben of Mitchell and Cindy Chandler of Huntsville, Texas; two aunts and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles J. Chandler II and a sister, Denise Parks.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Southern Indiana Cremation Society in Martinsville.

Marcia Sutton Bonifield

May 18, 1929 — April 10, 2015

Marcia Sutton Bonifield, 85, of Bedford, formerly of Warren, IN, passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Friday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. She was born on Saturday, May 18, 1929, in Blackford County, IN. She married Dr. William D. Bonifield, D.V.M on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1952, in Montpelier; he passed away in 1991. Mrs. Bonifield was a Montpelier High School graduate. She lived most of her life in Warren, until she moved to southern Indiana. She was the town clerk and treasurer for the town of Warren for many years. She retired from the state of Indiana as a secretary. Mrs. Bonifield was a former Girl Scout leader and a member of Tri Kappa and enjoyed going to Bridge Club.

Loving survivors include daughter Sarah L. (husband, Mark) Mostes, Ellettsville, IN, daughter Mary Bonifield (husband, Chris) Young, Williams, IN., sister Alberta Bennett, Montpelier, IN., brother Fred Richard (wife, Elsie) Sutton, Hartford City, IN., granddaughter Laura Young (husband, Ryan) Demerest, grandson Matthew (wife, Jeannie) Young, granddaughter Rachel Mostes, great-grandson Andy Flores and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred R. and Mary Phillips Sutton; her husband, Dr. William D. Bonifield, D.V.M., and sisters, Doris Helen Zent, Jo Ann Dennewitz and Marjorie Brown.

Margaret Elizabeth (Midge) Parish, 92, of Mitchell passed away on Monday at 6:33 a.m. at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. She was born in Mitchell on April 5, 1923, to Jerry Delbert Powell and Effie (Hatfield) Powell. She married Charles Elmer Parish on Dec. 23, 1939, and he preceded her in death. She attended Mitchell Schools and was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ.

Margaret was an avid reader, crocheter and loved embroidery, she loved family, and she also had an amazing five generations.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Doyle, Karen (Ron) Passmore, Sandra Parish, Penny Parish, Caroline (Paul) McCormick, all of Mitchell; Ada Jean Searfoss of Searcy, Ark., brother, Kenneth (Carole) Powell of Denton, Texas, sister, Helen Clouse of Mitchell, 17 grandchildren, 39 great-great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Charles “Butch” Parish, one sister, three brothers, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Mitchell Church of Christ with Allen Burris officiating. Entombment will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Delphia Doris Heckard

Aug. 25, 1925 — April 11, 2015

Delphia Doris (Sims) Heckard, 89, of Shoals, passed away on Saturday at 9:15 p.m. at the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. Born on Aug. 25, 1925, in Dover Hill, she was the daughter of the late William Ivan and Blanche (Walton) Sims. She married William N. “Bill” Heckard on Aug. 8, 1947, in Vincennes and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2003.

Delphia attended Martin County schools. She received her GED in 1972 and had the highest test score in the state of Indiana at that time. She then attended Indiana University, taking courses in accounting.

She was known to be a very industrious lady, who always worked hard and took great pride in her work outside and within the home. She was formerly employed as a secretary for Shorty Miller Tax Preparer, Miller’s Hat Shop in Shoals, Farm Bureau Insurance Agency, Red Gold Tomato Factory in Indianapolis, was a bus driver for the Shoals Community School Corp., and managed the bookkeeping and accounting for Heckard’s Timber. She retired from the Indiana Department of Revenue after 21 years, retiring in 1990.

A lover of music, dancing, and attending Broadway shows, she also enjoyed embroidering, cooking, canning, tending her rose garden, traveling and feeding her birds. Delphia collected and had a vast knowledge of antiques. She was especially proud that she and her husband were able to attend the inaugurations of Presidents Nixon and Reagan.

As a child she attended the Dover Hill United Methodist Church and after marrying Bill they joined the Shoals United Methodist Church and raised their family within the Shoals congregation.

Delphia held memberships in several organizations, including, Martin County Republican Women’s Club, Shoals Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Shoals Hanson-McFee Post No. 61 American Legion Auxiliary and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2442 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Norman W. (Sharon) Heckard of Bedford, William Malcolm “Bill” (Rita) Heckard of Bloomington, Grace D. (Ronald “Pete” ) Dunlap of Smithfield, Ky., Cathy L. (Calvin) Evans of Shoals, Ricky L. Heckard of Loogootee, and Darwin I. (Dianna) Heckard of Shoals; grandchildren Jeff W. Heckard of Newburgh, Brian S. Heckard of Bedford, William “Boomer” Heckard of Shoals, Casey L. Heckard of Bloomington, Travis R. Ashcraft of Bloomington, Kristine N. Midwood of Willimantic, Conn., Stephanie L. Parsons of Louisville, Ky., Amanda K. Heckard of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Heather D. Evans of Shoals, Lindsay R. Tolin of Indianapolis, Nathan S. Heckard of Bedford, and Alisha Truelove of Shoals, as well as 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; two sisters, Maxine Baker and Kizzie Walton; brother Jasper Sims, and a son in infancy.

Visitation will be from 4-9 on Thursday at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Shoals United Methodist Church, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Joseph Seger and Pastor Michael Schlaegel will officiate the service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals.

Becky Ann Farrell, 70, of Bloomington, died at 7:45 a.m. on Monday at the Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington.

Born Nov. 23, 1944, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Rick and Mary Frances Farrell. She attended the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School and graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1962. Following graduation, she was employed by RCA in Bloomington and worked there until her retirement. She was a lifelong resident of Bloomington.

Survivors include a sister, Ricki Chastain; a brother, John Michael Farrell and wife, Gloria, all of Bloomington; four nephews, Troy Chastain and wife, Jeanice, Christopher Chastain and wife, Anna, Adam Farrell and wife, Amanda, and Jonathan Farrell; a niece, Ashley Bridgwaters and husband, Daniel; one great-nephew, Jack Bridgwaters and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a niece, Amy and a brother-in-law, Monte Chastain.

Melissa Jane (Wagner) Zook, 83, Martinsville, passed away at 3:09 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville.

She was born on Wednesday, May 20, 1931, in Bedford, Indiana, to the late Orley and Maude (Lemon) Wagner.

Melissa was a 1949 graduate of Bedford High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Buck Lemon Furniture in Bedford and Bloomington before becoming a fulltime mother and homemaker. She was a member for over 50 years at the Liberty Christian Church, where she was active with fellowship meals, the Ladies Aid and teaching Sunday School and Bible School. In the winter she and her husband, Dale, would attend the First Christian Church in Bradenton, Florida. Melissa also enjoyed the time that she spent working at the Martinsville Country Club with Lorraine Hall (often referred to as Lavern and Shirley).

She is survived by her husband, S. Dale Zook, whom she married on June 3, 1956; daughters, Julie Barto and husband John of Greenwood, and Diana Stanley and husband Jim of East Sandwich, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Emily Jane Barto, who shared her grandmother’s birthday, Johnathan Dale Barto, Kaela Avitabile and Shea Stanley. She was like a mother to every child who entered her back door.

Melissa was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Wagner, and a special first cousin, William “Bill” Hudson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Liberty Christian Church, 2010 Liberty Church Road, Martinsville, Indiana, 46151 with Rev. Richard Throckmorton, Rev. Norman Able and Rev. Rocky Baire officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be at the Liberty Cemetery.

Our dear sister, Ellen, passed away in Galitan, TN. She was the first child born to Lyle Berry and Viola Blunk Berry. They preceded her to Heaven as did her sister, Clara Fyffe, and her brother, George Berry. She graduated from Solsberry High School and worked as a waitress in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Portland, TN, which she loved.

She is survived by a son, William Sherfield; and wife, Debbie, of Pittston, PA; a daughter, Lisa Tuttle, of Portland, TN; and a son, Daniel Gray, and wife Michelle, of Hartsville, TN. Also surviving are sisters, Erin Spires and Rick of Bedford, IN, Frances Peters and Max of Springville, Millie Pfaff and Wendell of Whitehall and Colleen Childs and Danny of Ellettsville. Her brothers surviving are Steve Berry of Ellettsville, Dave Berry and Mary of Oolitic, and Ben Berry of Mesquite, Texas.

Also missing her are grandchildren, Kim Biggerstaff and daughter, Brooke, of Indianapolis, Will Sherfield of Indianapolis, and Christopher Tuttle and Megan and their children, Ayla and Corbin, of Whitehouse, TN.

Oct. 29, 1920 — March 23, 2015

Ben Brunner of Payson, Ariz., died March 23, 2015, at the age of 94.

He was born in Severance, Colo., on Oct. 29, 1920, one of nine children born to Jacob and Elizabeth Brunner, and was raised on a farm in Windsor, Colo.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

On May 4, 1943, he married Linda Jacoby, and they shared 63 wonderful years together until her death in 2006. After discharge from the Navy in 1945, he returned to farming in Windsor. In 1947, he and his family moved to California where he went to work for Manchester Tank in Lynwood, Calif.

He held many jobs before becoming Sales Manager. In 1962, he moved his family to Bedford, to start his own LP Gas tank business, Brunner Engineering & Mfg., Inc., which he sold in 1980.

He and Linda retired to California, Colorado, and finally Arizona. His passions in retirement were golf and flying.

He is survived by three daughters, Emily Earlywine (Mike) of Payson, Ariz., Kris Brunner (Harris Weinberg) of Green Valley, Ariz., and Bev Brunner of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; three grandsons, 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Freida, of Eugene, Ore.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his companion in his later years, Donna Lindstrom of Payson, Ariz.

A private family gathering to honor his memory will be held in Colorado in July.

James A. Jenkins

James Andrew Jenkins, 72, of Bedford, died Thursday at Richard L. Roudebush V.A. Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Born June 10, 1942, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George E. and B. Eileen (Mathews) Jenkins. He married Kathleen Mary Wilkerson of Aug. 31, 1959, and she survives.

He held a BS in Criminal Justice from Central Texas College; was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring in 1985; and former co-owner of J.W.W. Auto Parts. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, Bedford; VFW of Oolitic and FOP Stone City Lodge of Bedford.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Jenkins of Bedford; one daughter, Kathy Lynn Amabile and her companion, James E. Moore; three grandchildren, James Dean Amabile, Johathon Tyler Amabile and Jacob Lee Amabile, all of Bedford; one sister, Loretta E. (John) Burris, Bloomington; one brother, Thomas J. (Linda) Jenkins of Bedford; one brother-in-law, Frank (Linda) Wilkerson of Sparksville; one sister-in-law, Candice (David) Morlock, Wadesville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara J. Guthrie, and one son, James Dean Jenkins, in 1976.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with Tim Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Proctor Cemetery, Dixon Chapel.

Freida Kay Pruett, 76, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Thursday at Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin.

Born Nov. 20, 1938, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Heber Leon and Mary Ellen (Reynolds) Tolbert. She married Gordon Pruett Dec. 31, 1961, and he preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1969.

Freida was a homemaker and a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are a brother, Bernard Earl Tolbert of Franklin; nephews, Bradley Earl Tolbert of Franklin, and Michael Eldon (Noreen) Tolbert of Orleans; great-niece, Jennifer Renay Tolbert of Orleans; and great-nephew, Russ Doan of Orleans.

Her parents; husband; and brother, John Gerald Tolbert, preceded her in death.

Anna “Billie” L. Speer, 93, Orleans, passed away at 8:02 p.m. on Wednesday at Paoli Health and Living Community in Paoli.

She was born March 30, 1922 in Rich Hill, Mo., the daughter of John William and Annice (Carnes) Miller. She married Robert T. Speer on Jan. 10, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2000.

She was the co-owner of Standeford Insurance in Orleans for many years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Orleans. She was also a member of Tri Kappa, Eta Chapter, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved Orleans and Orange County!

She is survived by one daughter, Janet (Roger) Holland of Mitchell; one son, Bob (Charlotte) Speer of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Dane Speer, Darren Speer, Bradley Holland, Michael Holland, Aaron Holland and their families; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with the Rev. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

Leslie Joe Burton, 66, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York.

Joe was born Jan. 27, 1949, in Bedford, the son of Harold J. and Martha Bradley Burton. He married Julie Nichols on Jan. 14, 1989, in Orleans.

Joe was employed by Layne Christensen, Co. He was a member of Orleans United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 69. He had been a licensed pilot since the age of 16.

He is survived by his wife, Julie of Mitchell; his parents, Harold J. and Wanda Burton of Orleans; four children, Sean Burton (Jennifer) of Ann Arbor, Mich., Molly Moon (Jon) of Orleans, Katie Stroud (Chad) of Valeene, and David Alan Burton stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.; three stepchildren, Steve Hackney (Autumn) of Brownstown, Jessica Pannhoff (Adam) of Marshfield, Wis., and Carrie Hackney of Mitchell; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; one sister, Valarie Burton Dreusicke (Dave) of Dawson Springs, Ky., and one brother, Alan J Burton (Rebecca) of Alexandria, Va.

Sharon Ann Reynolds, 72, Richmond, died Tuesday at Golden Rule Living Center in Richmond.

Sharon was born Dec.14, 1942, to Leo and Elsie Reynolds in Richmond, moved with her family as a young child to Bedford, and returned to settle in Richmond as an adult.

She retired from Dana Corp. and worked at Friends Fellowship Community during her retirement.

She is survived by a sister, Thelma Gray of Richmond; daughters, Brenda (Rick) Baumer of Richmond and Bonnie Young of Newport News, Va.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Elsie Reynolds; and her brother, Max Reynolds.

Mary L. Plake, 95, of Bedford, died Wednesday at her residence.

Born Dec. 17, 1919, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Blackburn) Fountain. She married Floyd Plake on July 3, 1946, and he preceded her in death.

She was a teacher at Shawswick School and Bedford North Lawrence High School. She was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church and a long-time 4-H leader.

She volunteered for Hoosier Christian Village, the American Red Cross, American Heart Association and Southern Indiana Visually Impaired.

Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Beyers and husband Jack, Shari Wisely and husband Jerry, all of Bedford, and Nyla Jean James and husband Rob of Kansas; seven grandchildren, Elisa Dunman and husband Nathan, Laura Cummings and husband Michael, L. J. Beyers and wife Jama, Maleaha Evans and husband Brandon, Lynessa Cummings and husband John, Lyndee James, and Erin Paxton and husband Caleb; four stepgrandchildren, John Wisley and wife Mindy, James Wisely and wife Janice, Joshua Wisley and wife Denise, Joseph Wisley and wife Melissa; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Batman of Bedford.

Maxine Branneman, 90, Clarksville, formerly of Cloverdale and Greencastle, passed away on March 29 at the Clark Memorial Hospital at Jeffersonville.

She was born on April 2, 1924, in Morgan County and was the daughter of Walter Reuben Neese and Mary S. (Broyer) Neese. She was married to Clarence Cleon Branneman on July 29, 1943, and he preceded her in death on June 4, 1995.

She was a retired Executive Secretary for Inland Container at Indianapolis and was a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ.

Ken Barnes, 62, of Bedford, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday at his residence.

Born Aug. 19, 1952, in Augsburg, Germany, he was the son of Raymond and Heddy (Brehm) Barnes. He married Mary Albright on Sept. 26, 1977, and she survives.

Ken was a graduate of the University of Masssachusetts and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force; he was president of W. F. Meyers, Bedford, for 30 years; a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford; Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1166; American Legion, Gillen Post No. 33; and was very active at Bedford North Lawrence High School where he coached girls’ and boys’ soccer and conditioning.

Ken was a personal trainer for Priority Fitness, Bedford; and was an avid runner having completed many marathons and mini-marathons. He was past-president of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce and he also held a pilot’s license.

Surviving are his father, Raymond Barnes of Hopkinsville, Ky.; wife, Mary Barnes of Bedford; one daughter, Sarah Dow Barnes of New Orleans, La.; one son, Alex George Barnes of Bloomington; one sister, Christa Nicklaus and her husband Erwin of Hollenbach, Germany; one brother-in-law, Jack Reilly, Ipswich, Mass.; his nephew, Marcus Barnes-Reilly, also of Ipswich, Mass.; his nephew, Thomas Nicklaus and his niece, Birgit Nicklaus Sindona, both of Hollenbach, Germany; and many extended family members in Massachusetts.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Heddy Barnes; and one brother, Raymond Barnes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with Fr. Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating.

Ruth E. Payne, 92, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday at White River Lodge in Bedford.

She was born in Marietta, Ga., on Nov. 23, 1922, to Buryl Simpson McCrary and Ada (Foley) McCrary. She married John A. “Whitey” Payne Sr. and he preceded her in death Oct. 28, 2001.

Ruth worked for over 20 years at NWSC Crane and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra J. Bell and husband Gene of Mitchell; two sons, John A. Payne Jr. of Bedford and Gerald L. Payne and wife Wanda of Bedford; one sister, Anna Maines of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Jaunni (Chad) Grimes, John A. (Casey) Payne III, Jeremy Payne, Joshua (Courtney) Payne, Shannon Payne, Kyle Payne, and Falanya (Dustin Price) Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and nine brothers and sisters.

Gary L. Matlock, 66, of Bedford, passed away at 6 p.m. on Sunday at his residence.

He was born in Lawrence County on June 1, 1948, to Kenny and Barbara Joann (Moore) Matlock. He married Diane (Smith) Matlock on Dec. 15, 2004 and she survives.

Gary was a truck driver at the Elliott Stone Company in Bedford, He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, he loved NASCAR and his dog Oscar.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Matlock of Bedford; one daughter, Crystal (Todd) MacDonald of Brownstown; sons, Gary Lee (Jessica) Matlock Jr. and Kyle Michael Matlock, both of Bedford; stepchildren, Dorothy Lewis of Salem, Brian Tolliver of Mitchell and Dempsey Boling of Sparksville; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation was chosen with a memorial graveside service at 3 p.m. on Friday at Cresthaven Memory Gardens, Chapel of Peace, military honors by Bedford American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Louis E. Burris Jr., 72, Mitchell, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Nov. 26, 1942, in Cannelburg, he was the son of Louis Emil and Augustia (Gregory) Burris. He married Brenda Edwards Nov. 28, 1964.

He retired from Carpenter Body Works. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1960, and attended Ball State University.

Louis was a U.S. Navy veteran and was honorably discharged July 3, 1965. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Burris of Mitchell; children, Seth Thomas (Karen) Burris of Bedford and Emily Suzanne (Tony) Wheeler of Mitchell; grandchildren, Samuel Westfall of Germany and Aidan Wheeler of Mitchell; sister, Cleora Thomas of Indianapolis.

His parents; son, Ashley Wade Burris; and sister, Imogene Myers, preceded him in death.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating.

William Dean Tabor, 82, of San Antonio, Texas, died March 24 in Mesquite, Texas.

He was born in Bedford on March 2, 1933, to Kelsie and Margaret (Roberts) Tabor.

As a young man, he served in the United States Air Force in a military police unit. His Christian faith led him into the public ministry where he served several congregations. Gifted with sales and management skills, he also created and operated his own successful cleaning company for many years.

William was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janice (Brown) Tabor; his daughter, Belinda Kay Tabor; his son, Anthony Jay Tabor; his sister, Jackie Hardiman; and his two brothers, Bob and Jerry Tabor.

Born Aug. 2, 1934, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of William McKinley Payton and Dona (Hughes) Payton. She married Donald Henderson on Feb. 5, 1956; he preceded her in death on March 25, 2005.

She was a graduate of Tunnelton High School with the Class of 1952 and worked as a bookkeeper for the Lawrence County Division of Family Services for more than 50 years, from where she retired in 2010. She was also a longtime member of the Tunnelton Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are one son, Michael Henderson of Bedford; one daughter-in-law, Irene Henderson of Bedford; four grandchildren, Misty Middleton of Bedford, Brandy Henderson (Michael Vinson) of Mitchell, Nicholas Henderson (Derin) of Greenwood, and Tyler Henderson of Bedford; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Bell, Ethan Middleton, Devin Middleton, Caitlyn Middleton, Ava Middleton, Alexys Nicholas, Braydon Nicholas and Kynadee Nicholas; one brother, Floy Payton (Melissa) of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born Oct.14, 1937, in Orange County, the daughter of Oliver Yeulee Dalton and Alice (Fleming) Dalton.

She was a graduate of Orleans High School Class of 1956. She had worked at Dana Corp. in Mitchell, Indiana, retiring in 2005.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas A. (Christy) Johnson and Michael (Edwina) Johnson both of Orleans; six grandchildren, Courtney and David Zeeks of Mitchell, Eric Johnson of Bedford, Callie Lynn, and Candace and Jason Schmatz of Indianapolis; four great-grandchildren, Caydeen Zeeks, Maizey Zeeks, Olyvia Hackney and Adalyn Elizabeth Schmatz; and one great-great-grandchild, Kaharson Kern.  Survived by one brother, Danny (Beverly) Dalton of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Nicky was born April 13, 1953, in French Lick, Indiana, to Richard and Esther (Harris) Stackhouse. He married Sherry Wininger on July 1, 1988, and she survives.

Nicky was a 1971 graduate of Springs Valley High School.

He was previously employed at Styline Industries in Huntingburg in the body shop.

He was a member of the French Lick American Legion Post No. 76. He had served in both the United States Air Force Reserves and the United States Army Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Stackhouse of French Lick; daughter, Donna Montgomery of French Lick; and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard Stackhouse of Bedford and Steve Stackhouse of French Lick; and his sisters, Ricki Willoughby of Bedford and Kim Wilkinson of West Baden Springs.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his sister, Glenda Breedlove.

Born April 28, 1941, in Vine Grove, Ky., she was the daughter of Norvin T. Bickers and Kathryne Fay (Kelly) Bickers. She married Bill Kelly in 1984 and he died Nov. 30, 2005.

She was a member of River’s Edge Fellowship Church of Bedford and was a homemaker.

Surviving are six daughters, Barbara (Richard) Garrett of Carollton, Ky., Linda (Joe) Noble of Hanover, Debbie Carlisle of Mitchell, Donna (David) Law of Scottsburg, Mollie (Riyad) Shamma of West Chester, Ohio, and Norma (Donald) Rainey of Fort Worth, Texas; one son, Roy (Sherry) Webster Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Toni (A.W.) Steele of Lebanon, Ohio, and Nina Adams of Lexington, Ky.; and three brothers, Jerry (Marion) Cecil of Winchester, Ky., Donnie (Pat) Bickers of Walhalla, S.C., and Bob (Neoma) Bickers of Downey, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Bickers, in infancy and Norvin Louis Bickers; and one grandson, David Allen Law Jr.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford, with Pastor Phil Thorne officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Freda Ramsay

Jan. 23, 1941 — March 25, 2015

Freda Ramsay, 74, of Bedford, passed away at 4:36 p.m. on March 25, 2015, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1941, in Tulsa, Okla., to Claude and Ollie (Smith) Moler. Freda married Jon D. Ramsay on Feb. 2, 1967, in Avoca and he survives.

She was an active member of the Avoca Baptist Church for 59 years. She was a graduate of Needmore High School Class of 1959.

Survivors include her husband, Jon D. Ramsay of Bedford; one daughter, Lisa (Ramsay) Dalton and husband Mike of Bedford, Lisa’s children, Brad (Monica) Childers, their children, Lora, Regan, Jadin, and Jordan, Mike (Blair) Dalton, Josh (Kayla) Dalton, their daughter, Peyton; two sons, Kenny Ramsay and wife Rosa of Bedford, their children, Kendall and Cameron and Jon Ramsay Jr. of Bedford, his children, Ashley, Asia, Adler, Ashton, Adair, Aciai; one sister, Diane Davis of Mount Sinai, N.Y.; and her twin brother, Fred Moler of Leavenworth; also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Kenny Moler; and one sister, Tonya Davis Holloway.

Freda loved her family like she loved Jesus, in her final days she was not afraid because she knew she would be with Jesus.

Cremation was chosen with burial service to be at noon on Saturday at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Memorial service will be at noon on April 11 at the Avoca Baptist Church in Avoca.

Cresthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty L. Artman

June 9, 1949 — March 29, 2015 Betty Lou Artman, 65, Mitchell, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Sunday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born June 9, 1949, in Campbellsburg, she was the daughter of Franklin and Vivian (Green) Guthrie. She married Ronald Greg Artman Sept. 9, 1968.

Betty was a certified nursing assistant for 46 years and had been employed at Mitchell Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Safe at Home Health Care.

She graduated from Boone County High School in 1966. She was a member of Woodville Baptist Church and an avid supporter of the Blessed Hearts Gospel Ministry.

Surviving are her husband, Ronald G. Artman of Mitchell; children, Kimberly (Bruce) Nickless of Orleans, Gregory Thomas (Liz) Artman of Bedford and Nicole Michelle (Ryan) Nicholas of Bedford; eight grandchildren; siblings, Donald Keith Guthrie of Campbellsburg and Rebecca Sue Gibbons of Pittsboro.

Her parents and brothers, Ronald Kent Guthrie and Michael Lee Guthrie, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Woodville Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Hamer officiating. Burial will be in Cavetown Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Friday at the church.

Michael N. Boling

May 29, 1948 — March 25, 2015

Michael Norman Boling, 66, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday at his residence.

Born May 29, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of James Edward and Mildred (Hawthorne) Boling. He was married to Bonnie Link for 30 years.

Michael was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War with four Bronze Service Stars, a member of American Legion Post No. 250, and a contract administrator for the U. S. International Trade Commission in Washington, D. C.

He enjoyed painting and was a Sunday school teacher and member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church.

Surviving are brothers, Richard Boling of Salem and Steven Gene Boling of Illinois.

His parents preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Mount Horeb Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Burial will be at a later date in Saltillo Cemetery.
