November 30, 2015 Jana Marchetti

July 20, 1950 — Nov. 26, 2015

Jana Marchetti, 65, of Indianapolis, formerly of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Thursday at Avon Health & Rehab Center in Avon.

Born July 20, 1950 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Marco and Evalou (Henderson) Marchetti. Jana was a graduate of Bedford High School with the Class of 1968 and received a secretarial degree from Vincennes University in 1970. She was a computer operator with the Federal Aviation Administration and retired in January 2006 after 35 years of service.

Survivors include a brother, Pat Marchetti and wife Toni, of Pittsboro; and a niece, Kristen Marchetti and husband, Nathan Glatt-Holtz of Berkeley, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Kurt Marchetti.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with John Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service on Tuesday at the mortuary.

Ronald Cammack

Feb. 4, 1947 — Nov. 27, 2015

Ronald Bruce Cammack, 68, Mitchell, passed away Friday afternoon at his residence.

Born Feb. 4, 1947, in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of Thomas Earl and Aileen (Boone) Cammack. He married Carol Minton Nov. 22, 1980.

Ron was a computer technician and retired from Mitchell Community Schools. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1965 and attended the Free Methodist Church.

He was a contributing editor to Workbench Magazine, owned and operated Heritage Frame Co. and had been an English teacher and school bus driver.

Ron enjoyed woodworking, computers, photography, and as an avid car enthusiast, he was proud of his Porsche 928.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Cammack of Mitchell; daughter, Misha Aileen Pelletier of Tampa, Fla.,; son, Joshua Thomas (Elizabeth) Cammack of Mitchell; mother, Aileen Cammack of Mitchell; and sister, Sandra (Randall) Huddleston of Elmwood, Tenn.

His father and sister, Carol Hays, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Ronnie McLain officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Timothy C. York

April 24, 1950 — Nov. 27, 2015

Timothy Chase York, 65, Mitchell, passed away Friday evening at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born April 24, 1950, in Bedford, he was the son of Chase B. and Margie Lois (Mayden) York. He married Ruth Kurtz Sept. 19, 1970.

Tim retired from U.S. Gypsum with 35 years of service. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1968, attended Tulip Street Christian Church and was a Boy Scout leader for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth York of Mitchell; sons, Bryce York of Bedford, Byran York of Elkton, Md., and Terry York of Mitchell; grandchildren, Phillip York, Haleigh York, Ben York, Collin York, Maddalyn York and Ella York; sister, Sandalee Jeffries of Mitchell; and a half brother, C. B. Rabb of Peoria, Ill.

His parents and brother, Malcom York, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Darrin Chastain officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Mitchell Cemetery.

Walter H. Wilson

July 28, 1921— Nov. 24, 2015

Walter H. Wilson, 94, Bedford, formerly of Naples, Fla., died at 11:24 a.m. on Nov. 24 at Bliss Place in Bedford. Dec. 21, 1938 — Nov. 27, 2015

Ralph William Haycraft, age 76, of Bloomington, passed away at his residence Friday afternoon, November 27, 2015. He was born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, to Ralph W. Haycraft and Alice Snyder Haycraft on December 21, 1938.

Ralph was a 1957 graduate of Seymour High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Hanover College in 1961. After his graduation, Ralph proudly served in the United Sates Army from 1961-1964. He spent his professional career of 33 years with RCA/Thomson Consumer Electronics in management and information systems before his retirement in 1998.

Ralph’s interests were wide and varied. He was with the Carrolton, Kentucky, Masonic Lodge as a member for 50 years, and a member of the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis. He thoroughly enjoyed Indiana University Athletics and Colts football; go karting, and golfing. Ralph and his wife Jane were also members of the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church since 1974, where he served as a Deacon.

He leaves behind his wife, Jane Peters Haycraft of Bloomington; daughters Lynn Pierson and husband Bob of Bloomington, Paula Godwin and husband Jeff of Heltonville, Indiana, and Karyn Rumph and husband Brad of Vallonia, Indiana. Also surviving are grandchildren Bo, Ty, Abigail, Josiah, Jedidiah, Lindsey, Brandon, and Shelby; great-granddaughters Rylee, and Aubrey, sisters Elizabeth Miller and Becky Johns, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. Tom Ellsworth will preside. Entombment will follow in the Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon and evening at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37, Bloomington, from 4-8 p.m. and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Velma Ruth (Hauck) Knoy, 94, Martinsville, passed away at 8:48 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at her son’s residence.

She was born on Monday, June 27, 1921, in Linton, Indiana, to the late John R. and Gilla (Haywood) Hauck.

Velma was a 1939 graduate of Clay City High School in Clay City, Indiana. She moved to Martinsville in 1952. She retired from Home Bank in 1984 after 20 years of service in the accounting department. She was a member of the Morgan Street Church of Christ and had been a volunteer at the Morgan County Hospital, now the Indiana University Health Morgan Hospital. She loved being with her grandchildren and was an avid quilter.

Survivors are her sons, Michael K. “Rusty” Knoy and wife Connie of Bedford and David K. Knoy and wife Tina of Martinsville; sister, Geneva Stevens of Bloomington; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Knoy, whom she married on February 2, 1946, and he passed away on April 25, 2003; and a great grandchild.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Costin Funeral Chapel in Martinsville. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Costin Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be at the Olive Christian Church Cemetery at Paragon, Indiana.

Danny James Voorhies, 65, of Bedford, died at 10:13 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born July 29, 1950, in Bedford, he was the son of Tirey James and Marjorie June (Waggoner) Voorhies. He married Dianna Dodds on June 5, 1988, and she survives. He was a graduate of the Bedford High School with the class of 1968. He earned his bachelor degree from the University of Indianapolis. He retired as an electrician and was employed by Alexander Electric and Rogers Group. He was a pastor at the Fort Ritner United Methodist Church and the chaplain for Fishers of Men in affiliation with the National Bass Tournament.

Survivors include his wife, Dianna, of Bedford; three children, Darin Voorhies and wife, GiGi, Derek Voorhies all of Bloomington and Donny Voorhies at home; two brothers, John David Voorhies and wife, Leah, of Mitchell and Denny Voorhies and wife, LaDona, of Bedford; step-sisters, Ruth Ann Elkins and husband, Preston and Tina Peyton and husband, Chris, all of Bedford; brothers-in-law, Jerry and David Dodds both of Bedford; sisters-in-law, Mary and Jennifer Dodds both of Bedford; three step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Joe, Donald and Dean (Bo) Voorhies; his in-laws, David and Janet Dodds.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Oolitic United Methodist Church on Lafayette Avenue with Pastor Eric Kersey officiating. Burial will follow in the Payton Family Cemetery in Paoli, IN. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30 at the Day & Carter Mortuary. James Fletcher

June 20, 1942 — Nov. 24, 2015

James W. Fletcher, 73, passed away at Tuesday evening, Nov. 24, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born June 20, 1942, in Mitchell, he was the son of James G. and Helen Mae (Coleman) Fletcher.

James “J.W.” taught briefly in rural Boone County. He had on-the-job training and worked over 20 years in hospital laboratories at Bedford Medical Center and Dunn Memorial Hospital. This was followed by employment at Stone City Products and Spring Mill State Park. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1960, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1965 and a master’s degree in 1971 from Butler University. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving: brother, Phillip Eugene Fletcher, Mitchell

His parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; and special friend, Carolyn Bennett, preceded him in death.

Jane Rae Colvin, 78, formerly of Bedford, passed away on Oct. 7, 2015, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was born on May 18, 1937.

Jane was a graduate of Mitchell High School and was the first Persimmon Festival queen in 1956. She worked for US Gypsum, Lehigh and RCA prior to her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Alma Bruner and is survived by her husband, Rodney Colvin; daughter and Dee Colvin-Ott, both living in Jacksonville, Fla. and a ister, Elizabeth Robinson of Bedford. She was a wonderful woman who was sweet, caring and extraordinarily funny and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Stephen Borden, 61, of Bedford, died at 8:30 p.m. on Monday at Indiana University Health Hospice House.

Born Jan. 21, 1954, in Bedford, he was the son of Harry Cecil and Dorothy (Cunningham) Borden. He married Judy Collins on Aug. 15, 1972 and she survives.

He retired from Indiana University. He was of the Apostolic faith, a member of the Blackwell Pentecostal Church and ABATE. He was a foster father for many years who cared for each child as if they were his own.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Bedford; his mother, Dorothy Borden of Bedford; two daughters, Michelle Stigall and husband J.R. and Holly Borden and fiancé Darrin Banks, all of Bedford; two sons, Jimmy Borden and Daniel Brown; six grandchildren, Bethany, Skylar, Eli, Chelsey, Austin and Ariana; three great-grandchildren, Gabriela, Andres and Adrian and one expected in May; a sister, DeAnna Pineira and husband Jack, of Bedford; a brother, Greg Borden of Conway, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry; two brothers, James and Troy Borden.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brack Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery.

Jeneane Johnson

Nov. 18, 1936 — Nov. 23, 2015

Jeneane Johnson, 79, passed away Monday at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg.

Born Nov. 18, 1936, in Salem, she was the daughter of Aubra and Virginia (Tarr) Miller. She married Leon “Bill” Johnson June 14, 1958.

Jeneane was a 1954 graduate of Hardinsburg High School and received her business degree from Indiana University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Jeneane was a mother and housewife until her children went to college and then she was employed by Hillenbrand in human resources.

Surviving: husband, Leon “Bill” Johnson of Greensburg; daughter, Belinda (Timothy) Ferguson of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Ryan Ferguson, Erin Shaul, Kathryn Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Benjamin Johnson and Elana Johnson; and siblings, Ronald Miller, Rex Miller and Patricia Thompson.

Her parents; son, Michael Johnson; and sister, Karen Herron, preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Liberty Christian Cemetery in Orleans with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating.

Gary Z. Jackson, 88, of Bedford, died Monday at Westview Nursing and Rehab.

Born Nov. 18, 1927, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Sherman and Lillian Frowe (Duke) Jackson. He was a graduate of the Bedford High School with the Class of 1947.

He was the assistant director of the Boys Club of Miami, Fla., for 26 years. He was a custodian at Chase Bank and retired in 1994 as a custodian from the Bedford Boys Club after 10 years. He was a member of the Exchange Club, Kiwanis Club and Midtown Church of Christ.

Survivors include a brother, Dean Jackson of Columbus; three sisters, Myra Shipman of Bedford, Gloria Kruchten of Columbus and Jewell Sweeney of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tunis Paul Jackson, Wilford D. Jackson and Cloyce Jackson; and a sister, Dora Knight.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Dean Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Sept. 29, 1938 — Nov. 22, 2015

Merlin Edward Hamke, 77, of Bedford, died at 2:55 a.m. on Sunday at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation, Bedford.

Born Sept. 29, 1938, in Carlisle, he was the son of Lawrence and Opal (Rodgers) Hamke. He married Merla Whitted on Dec. 26, 1970, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Carlisle High School with the Class of 1957 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, from 1959-1963 as a helicopter mechanic and Flight Engineer. He later worked at RCA (Thomson Electronics), Bloomington, for 32 years and then at Visteon, Bedford, for 10 years.

He was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Merla; two daughters, Jennifer (Adam) Dixon and Naomi Hamke; two sons, Eric and Keith Hamke; four grandchildren, Isaiah and Niamh and Gabrielle and Aryanna; one sister, Beverly Perry, Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Phyllis Rine and Sharon Baughman.

Ira E. Bex

Sept. 4, 1928 — Nov. 20, 2015

Ira E. Bex, 87, Mitchell, passed away Friday evening at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Sept. 4, 1928, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Isom and Della (Ray) Bex. He married Virginia Rose Ritchison May 28, 1955.

Ira retired from Carpenter Body Works and was a deacon and member of the Fairview Church of Christ. He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, building birdhouses and clocks, and was also a quilter.

Ira was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Bex of Mitchell; daughter, Cathy L. Bex of Mitchell; brother, Leonard Bex of Mitchell; 14 nephews; and eight nieces.

His parents; sisters Nellie Johnson, Mahala Edwards, Bessie Callahan, Roseann Wininger and Flossie Williams; brothers, Asa, Archie, Chester and Elmer Bex; and five nephews and six nieces preceded him in death.

James Atkinson

James E. Atkinson, 85, Bedford, died Thursday at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation, Bedford.

Oct. 14, 1929 — Nov. 18, 2015

Ronald “Sarge” Hinman, 86, passed away Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital after open heart surgery.

Born October 14, 1929, in Syracuse, New York, he was the son of Howard Eugene and Florence (Fealy) Hinman, both deceased. At a young age he enlisted in the US Army, where his 22 year career spanned both the Korean and Vietnam wars before his final posting as a recruiting Sargent in Bedford, Indiana.

He was a member of Gillen Post #33, American Legion and a former member and officer of the Order of Elks Lodge #826 in Bedford, Indiana.

64 years ago, in 1951, he married and is survived by the love of his life, Corena (Miracle) Hinman. Together they had three children; Ronald Anthony (Tony) Hinman, deceased, Howard Hinman, of Bloomington, IN, and Jeff Hinman, of Jackson Hole, WY.

He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Fairiz, Farah, Juliana, Josh, Justin and Sydnie Hinman, together with 4 great grandchildren, and nephews Mark, Jerry, Kevin, Joey, Rick, Lynn, niece Melissa, and their families.

After retirement from the Army, Ron and Corena purchased the original Hub Restaurant in Bedford, expanding the Hub to locations in Mitchell, Oolitic, and West Baden. Ron and Corena were also in the hotel, beverage, car wash, and other businesses in Lawrence County for many years. In the 80’s they moved to Wyoming and started another business which flourishes today, owned by son Jeff.

Ron inspired many to embrace the American dream - be it through service to their country or service to their communities as good citizens and entrepreneurs. In his spare time he loved to play cards with friends, explore National Parks, travel, fish, and debate politics with anyone who could argue an issue from an interesting point of view. Ron was a man of extraordinary intelligence, integrity, fairness, and compassion, who will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.

Anita J. Beavers, 76, of Bedford passed away on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. She was born on June 30, 1939, in English, Ind., to Paul W. Kern and Margie V. (Denton) Kern Hewett. Anita married Bobby J. Beavers, and he preceded her in death on June 14, 2000.

Anita retired from NWSC Crane as a data processor and previously worked at Stone City Products in Bedford. She was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church.

Survivors include one son, Dan (Christy) Ingram of Springville; one daughter, Lori Jo Young of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; four grandchildren, Michelle (Bill) Sanders, Jennifer Young, Kayla Renfro and Josh (Ashley) Ingram; five great-grandchildren, Elana, Jeremy, Audrey, Jonathan and Isaac; and one brother, Lanny Joe (Patricia) Kern of Mims, Florida

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Paul W. “Pete” Kern, and a grandson, Jeremy Ingram.

Funeral services will be on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Bro. Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Mary Catherine Martin, 84, of Bedford, passed away Thursday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Born March 20, 1931, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Hobart and Jenny (White) Spray.

She married Paul Martin in 1952 and he preceded her in death in 2004.

Mary Catherine was a graduate of Shawswick High School, Class of 1949. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University. Mary Catherine retired from North Lawrence Community Schools where she taught for 42 years. She was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church where she also played the organ. She was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, SCAVI, and the Lawrence County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are one son, Duane (Cindy) Martin, of Bedford; two granddaughters, Audra (Aaron) Cook, and Kayla (Kevin) Smith; four great-granddaughters, Alana, Annabelle, Karsyn and Olivia, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Vicki Ann, and two sisters, Nadine and Dorothy.

Funeral service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at Erie United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Erie United Methodist Cemetery.

Betty June (Nicholson) Brown Bowden, 90, of Bedford, passed away Thursday at Loogootee Health Care.

Born Oct. 10, 1925 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Herschel Earl and Violet Almeda (Hamilton) Nicholson. She graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1943. She worked as a bookkeeper for Weddle Brothers in Bloomington and Bedford School Administration for twenty years. She worked with Dr. Shadwani for fifteen years. She was a life-long member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and enjoyed their fellowship. She loved spending time with and adored her family. She also loved shopping.

She had three daughters, Diana Lynn (David) Clark, of Collegedale, Tenn., Twinkle Dawn Cummings, of Bedford and Trenace Dalmeda (Bernie) Orender, of Plainfield; step-son, Gary (Debbie) Bowden of Idaho; four granddaughters, Melinda Dawn (Mark) Armstrong, of Shoals, Jennifer Lynn (Jamey), of Collegedale, Tenn., Stephanie Lynn (Tom) Goddard, of Collegedale, Tenn., and Candace (Chad) Cooper of Idaho; three grandsons, Brenton Ray Orender and Kyle Robert Orender both of Plainfield, Jeff (Rachel) Bowden of Idaho; thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Ralph Bowden, Jr. whom she married December 10, 1970 passed away October 23, 2000. Other preceding her in death were her daughter, Twinkle Dawn; her sisters, Jeanette Thompson and Wanda DeBolt, a nephew, Donovan Lee Thompson and a brother-in-law, Robert DeBolt.

Merle Eugene Lewis, 90, of Springville, died Thursday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born April 30, 1925, in Martin County, he was the son of James Whitcomb and Edith (Waggoner) Lewis. He was a graduate of Trinity Springs High School with the Class of 1943 where he played basketball and met his future wife, Roberta who was a cheerleader. He married Roberta Maxine Freeman on Jan. 1, 1944 and she survives. He retired as a railroad maintenance supervisor for NWSC Crane, and was a lifelong farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a Pharmacist Mate and was a member of the Owensburg Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta, of Springville; a son, James Leslie Lewis and wife, Darlene, of Springville; two daughters, Jeanette Parsley and husband, Clovis, of Bedford and Karen DeFord and husband, Rex, of Honey Grove, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Delores Lewis; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jan J. Armour; two brothers, Walter Grant and Russell Martin Lewis.

Joshua Kenneth Rush, 32, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Bedford, died Monday in Arlington, Texas.

Born Sept. 6, 1983, he was the son of Donald Kenneth Rush, Jr. and Kelly Lynn (Rush) Guthrie. He attended University of New Mexico. He was a landscaper. He loved all sports particularly IU basketball and football. He attended the Grace Community Church in Arlington.

Donna Jean Lee Edwards

June 18, 1931 — Nov. 15, 2015 Donna Jean Lee Edwards, 84, of Naples, Fla., died peacefully in her Indianapolis home on Nov. 15, 2015.

She was born June 18, 1931, in Bedford, Ind. A 1949 graduate of Bedford High School, she was the senior class secretary and editor in chief of the Pioneer staff. She graduated from DePauw University in 1953.

In 1954, she married the love of her life Arthur “Bud” W. Edwards. They met in first grade and attended all 12 years of school together. Donna worked at Fletcher Trust, tutored at Sunnyside TB Hospital and worked for Ford Motor Company. She was a member of North Naples United Methodist Church, Delta Zeta Sorority, Hillcrest Country Club Indianapolis, Ind., Imperial Golf Club in Naples, Fla., Bonita Bridge at Wiggins and Indianapolis Bridge Center. She loved bowling, golf, bridge, cooking and dancing but her greatest love was her family.

Donna is survived by her beloved husband Arthur “Bud” W. Edwards; children Jennifer Lee (Tom) Lipinski and Michael Arthur Edwards, and grandchildren, Victoria Lee Lipinski and Andrew Jason Lipinski. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mary (Rach) Lee and brother Robert David Lee.

A Memorial Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary with visitation an hour before the service.

Jack L. Coursey, 68, of Meriden, Conn., beloved husband of 46 years, departed this life on Tuesday.

Jack was born on July 20, 1947, in Bedford, Ind., son of Pauline (Thompson) Coursey and the late Laverne Coursey. He was a graduate of Oolitic High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy. Jack worked his entire life as a Computer Programmer, and later owned Coursey Associates. He was an avid UCONN fan, and later volunteered for RSVP serving his community by driving individuals to much needed appointments. Jack’s greatest legacy is that of a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his beloved grandchildren.

His memory will live on in his wife, Donna of Meriden, Conn., and their 3 children: Kevin Coursey of FL, Robin Bunch and her husband Lee of MO, and Shannon Poudrier and her husband Jack of MA. Jack also leaves his mother Pauline of IN, along with 2 sisters: Sue Hearth and Carol Strunk and her husband Danny of IN, and a brother, Mike Coursey and his wife Barbara of IN. Born Oct. 28, 1928, in Leipsic, he was the son of Norman and Faye (Stephenson) Johnson. He married Shirley Ann Isom Dec. 26, 1951.

LaRue graduated from Orleans High School in 1946 and Purdue University in 1950. He had been employed as an engineer for Sealtest Dairy and was also a farmer. He was a member of Carters Creek Christian Church and Rob Morris Masonic Lodge No. 282 F&AM.

LaRue was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Johnson of West Lafayette; a daughter, Norma (Bill) Fielding of West Lafayette; a son, Mark (Bonnie) Johnson of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren, Rebecca Fielding of Indianapolis, and James Johnson of Columbia, Mo., and his siblings, Franklin Johnson of Hawaii, Esther Hawkins of Indianapolis, Leon “Bill” Johnson of Greeensburg and Wanda Carroll of Bloomington.

Jerry J. Morron, 75, of Bedford, entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015.

He retired from the Cummins plant in Seymour after 34 years.

He loved his family and friends and enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and sports and teaching others to enjoy life. He was a devoted husband and father and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Sue (Prince) Morron; one son, Jerry Dean Morron; his parents, Bracie T. and May (Chambers) Morron; eight brothers, Lynual, Marshall, William (Bill), Cecil, Floyd Ray, Buck, Gene and Morris Boyd Morron, and two sisters, Roberta and Maxine.

He is survived by his five children, Randy (Jeanne) Morron of Bloomington, Jeff (Julie) Morron of Bloomington, Tracy (Kim) Morron of Bedford, Brad (Brenda) Morron of Springville, and Kimberley Wagner of Springville.

Garrison Lee “Jimmy Lee” Robinson III, 66, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at Heritage Medical Center in Shelbyville.

Born Jan. 26, 1949, in Fort Benning, Ga., he was the son of Garrison Lee and Mary Lou (Gibbs) Robinson, Jr.

He retired from the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War and the Invasion of Panama. Garrison spent many years of service during peacetime in South Korea. He majored in music at Northwood Institute in West Baden following graduation from Mitchell High School. Garrison enjoyed reading and research about history and religion.

Surviving: his mother, Mary Lou Robinson, Ohio; sons, Rob Robinson of Bloomington and Lee James Robinson of Rocky Mount, N.C.; grandchildren, Christian Robinson, Sylas Robinson, Tanner James Robinson and Sienna Robinson; siblings, Jennifer Perkins of Alabama, Yvonne Troutman of Pennsylvania, Debbie Robinson of Ohio, Steve Robinson of Alberta, Canada, Tim Robinson of Tennessee and Pam Duggard of Ohio.

Mary Frances Hendricks, age 79 of Bloomington, passed way late Sunday evening at the Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital. She was born April 21, 1936, in Bloomington to William Irvin Conder and Herma E. Aynes Conder.

Mary was a 1954 graduate of Bloomington High School and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She spent her professional career firstly with RCA and Sarkes Tarzian and then in later years with the old Lyons Drug Store at Second and Walnut and then ultimately with the Southside Cafe before retirement. Mary enjoyed assisting with the Relief Society at the church but received the greatest enjoyment out of spending time with her kids, grandkids and her TV.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Nancy Williams and her husband Ed of Bloomington; sons, David Reed and wife Jana of Bedford, Samuel Reed and wife Loretta of Franklin, Timothy Reed of Ellettsville and William Reed and wife Marlene of Bloomington. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and her first husband, Donald Reed of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald Hendricks; three brothers, Robert, Donald and James Conder and a sister, Bonnie Martin.

Funeral service for Mary will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Charles Edwin Burgess, 80, Brownstown, died Friday at 1:25 a.m. at his residence.

He was born March 7, 1935, in Orleans, Ind., to Merrill Burgess and Lucille Velcin Burgess. He married Mary Ann Harlow and she survives.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Mark Burgess of Nacogdoches, Texas and Andrew Schoenherr of Brownstown; an adopted son, Randall Tomes of Noblesville; four daughters, Cynthia Burgess Draper of Walla Walla, Wash., Sherill Grotheer of Las Vegas, Nev., Julie Schoster of Aurora, and Beth Ann Schoenherr White of Brownstown; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William Burgess of Seymour; two sisters, Barbara Sorrells and Marilyn Sadek, both of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Burgess.

He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brownstown. He belonged to the Currier and Ives Collection Club. He was an electrician for 20 years and also worked several years as a physical plant director at Finneytown Public Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio

He loved antiques and working outdoors.

She was a graduate of Mitchell High School, Class of 1939. Irene had been employed at Erwin’s Grocery and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Nancy Kay (Fish) Brudniak, 79, of Bedford, died on Friday at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born Feb. 4, 1936, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Ralph William and Frances Margaret (Browning) Fish. She was a graduate of Bedford High School. She married Daniel Brudniak and he preceded her in death on Oct.16, 1998.

She had worked as a beautician in the Indianapolis area.

She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church, and attended First Christian Church. Nancy enjoyed needlework and painting.

Nancy was survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Jean Sloop and Mickey Brooking; and two brothers, Robert Joe Fish and Ralph William “Bill” Fish.

Funeral service will be at noon on Wednesday in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Jeff Hudelson officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

John Edward Arnold, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 6:37 p.m. on Friday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1928, to Vernon and Eva (Carroll) Arnold. He married Joyce Marie (Stout) Arnold on Dec. 31, 1949, in Bedford, and she preceded him in death.

Mr. Arnold attended Bedford High School and was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post No. 33; He was a movie projectionist and business owner.

Surviving are, a son, Paul Vernon Arnold; sister, Doris (Arnold) Pierce; grandchildren, John Harold Arnold and Jessica Hope (Arnold) Russell; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Chase Arnold, Serra Marie Arnold and Lucas Victor Arnold.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Marie Arnold; three brothers; and three sisters

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Jeffrey Russell Brown, 56, of Franklin, passed away Friday at Homeview Health and Rehab in Franklin.

Born April 13, 1959, in Seymour; he was the son of Edmund “Rocky” and Doris (Smith) Brown.

He married Linda Bennett on March 19, 1993; and she survives.

Jeffrey was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the Class of 1977. He worked as a grocery manager.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Brown; one son, Rocky Brown and wife Jenah; two stepsons, Sean and Stephen Dahl; one granddaughter, Sophia Dahl; one sister, Mitzi Denney; one niece; one nephew, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.

Paul Stines, 87, of Judah, was called home at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015, at his residence.

Born August 31, 1928, in Bedford, IN he was the son of Herschel and Dorothy (Stogsdill) Stines.

A young soldier home on leave, he went in search of a replacement neck tie and found his bride, the former Sarah Jean Cochran of Bloomington. They married January 2, 1952, after 4 weeks of letters and one date they married boarded a train for Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Paul served 5 years in the U.S. Army stationed in Guam and Korea. He achieved the rank of sergeant and was proud to serve the country he loved.

Paul retired from RCA after 32 years and served as president of the IBEW Union. He was also co-owner of Stines Insulation Services with his brother, Bucky.

Paul loved his family and God and enjoyed singing specials at church and giving testimonies. He played the guitar and enjoyed fishing and selling boats. He was widely known as the “Boatman.”

He rededicated his life to God in August 1999 and faithfully attended Peerless Pentecostal Church for all his remaining years.

Paul is survived by his bride of 64 years Sarah Jean and three children, Teresa Tabor (Mike) of Hodgenville, KY; Marilyn Phillips (Rev. Alan) of Springville; one son, Randall Stines of Judah; four grandchildren, Andrew Phillips (Jennifer) of Springville, Rebekah Brain (Dustin) of Springville, Christy Tabor of Hodgenville, KY, and Cassandra Raby (Eric) of Ft. Scott, IL; eight great grandchildren, Elizabeth Riggs, Eli Phillips, Josiah Phillips, Kayla Highbaugh, Adalle Phillips, Sophia Raby, Alan Brain and Katie Brain; three brothers Herschel “Bucky” Stines Jr. (Louise) of Bedford, Charles “Art” Stines of Taylorsville, IN and David Stines of Bloomington; two sisters, Edith Tolliver (Wayne) of Bedford, Ellen Taylor (Jimmy) of Bloomington; a sister in law, Wanda Stines of Bloomington, and a brother in law, Kenneth Hayes of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Glen, Ralph and Russell Stines, two sisters, Eva Darlene Hays and infant Clara Stines and two sister in laws, June and Alice Stines.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, from the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford with Revs. Alan Phillips, Max Abel and Bert Arnett officiating. Glenda Carol Gerkin, 61, Bedford, passed away Friday morning at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born April 30, 1954, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Malcolm and Frankie Rose (Duncan) Hilderbrand. She married Michael Dean Gerkin May 26, 1995, and he preceded her in death Aug. 14, 2008.

She was a dietary manager at nursing homes, kitchen manager for the Midwest Trail Ride, and a 1972 graduate of Oolitic High School. Glenda was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club Auxiliary.

Surviving are daughters, Andrea Lake and Amanda Gerkin, both of Bedford; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sharon Davies of Bedford.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Pam Philpott, Shawn Hilderbrand, and Randy Hilderbrand, preceded her in death.

George “Wayne” Crumby, 71, of Bedford, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Monday at his residence.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1944, in Little Rock, Ark., to George L. Crumby and Alice Louise (Bradley) Crumby. Wayne married Joan (Kendall) Crumby in Bedford on Feb. 28, 1981, and she survives.

Wayne retired from GM Powertrain in Bedford with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local No. 440 in Bedford, and attended Hillcrest Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Crumby of Bedfor; three daughters, Shannon, Tiffany, and Misty; six grandchildren; one stepson, Chris (Jennifer) Thompson; three step grandchildren, Maleiaha, Makayla and Zach

Brenda L. Curry, 75, of Medora, passed away at 12:22 p.m. on Thursday at Indiana University Health, Bedford.

She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church and retired from Sparton Industries in Brownstown.

Born on July 19, 1940, in Orange County, she was the daughter of Paul and Orpha Kimble Allen, both of whom preceded her in death. On Dec. 31, 1960, she married Myron Curry and he survives.

Survivors include one son, Larry (Valleri) Curry of Medora; one brother, Charles (Martha) Allen of Bedford; two sisters, Joyce Speer of Utah and Paula (John) Carpenter of Whiteland; and one grandson, Hunter Curry.

In addition to her parents; she was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Allen.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Jerry Roberts officiating. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Richard J. Kerr, 67, Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 16, 2015, in Indianapolis, Ind.

He lived and attended school in the Bedford, Buddha, Tunnelton area, graduating from Tunnelton High School in 1966. He joined the Marine Corps in 1967 and served two tours in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge in 1971, he returned to the Bedford area, eventually moving to Indianapolis, marrying and raising his family.

He started and operated Physicians Equipment Repair Service until his passing. He leaves his wife, Cindi; his son Rick Jr. (Heather); two granddaughters, Piper and London; brothers, Steve and Ron (Barbara) Kerr; father, Morris D. Kerr (Bobbie,) one aunt, two uncles and many nieces and nephews.

Ida Francis Voorhies, 95, of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Bedford, died at 7:42 p.m. Saturday in Burlington, Iowa.

Born April 18, 1920, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harry and Della Ella Voorhies.

She attended a one-room school on Coxton Road and graduated from Fayetteville High School.

She had worked at Sarkes-Tarzian, Bloomington and had also worked as a nanny to both the mayor and later the governor.

She was of the Protestant Faith.

Surviving are one daughter, Rebecca (Rollen) Giffin, Burlington, Iowa; granddaughter Ashley Marie Giffin, Pittsburgh, Ill.; great-grandson, Kade Woodhall; one brother, William Earl Voorhies, Tullahoma, Tenn.; step-great-grandchildren, Brittany and Ty Giffin, Coushatta, La.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ruth Voorhies, Mary Padgett, Helen Baker, Susie Brobst, Richard “Bud” Voorhies, and Tirey “Todd” Voorhies; grandson, Lance Tieg Giffin; and nephews, Donald Voorhies, Mike Keller, Bill Keller, Dean “Bo” Voorhies, Joel Voorhies and Nathan Voorhies.

Born Nov. 5, 1954, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Hubert Ratliff and Virginia “Sue” (Essex) Ratliff. He married Rebekah “Becky” Ratliff on June 6, 1981, and she survives.

Mickey worked at US Gypsum for 31 years. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, camp and spend time with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; his mother, Virginia “Sue” Essex; three children, Jason (Lisa) Parsley, Jill (Tim) Robertson and Emilee (Jamie) Meadows, all of Bedford; four grandchildren, Savannah Robertson, Miranda Robertson, Camden Meadows and Haley Robertson; one great-granddaughter, Aleigha Rae Like; and five siblings, Rick Ratliff, Danny Ratliff and Donna Case, Dickie Ratliff and Rebecca Baker.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Hubert Ratliff, Donald Puckett and Virgil Essex; two brothers, Donald Puckett, in infancy, and Tracey Ratliff.

James “Brian” Fisher, 44, of Bedford, passed away at his residence on Saturday.

Brian was born in Bedford on July 16, 1971; he was the son of James M. Fisher and Vicki (Smith) Fisher. Brian had previously been the Manager of Tieman Tires in Mitchell.

Brian was a kind and caring person who loved his family and would do anything to help people out. He enjoyed working on cars and racing them.

Brian is survived by his parents; sister, Bridget Fisher; daughter, Nova Jolie Rayne Fisher; nephew, Chris (Stephanie) Fisher; niece, Chelsey (Michael) Fisher; two great nephews, Aiden and Abel.

Brian fought a good fight against his illness, he will be sadly missed.

Mr. Kruchten was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Bedford, the son of Albert F. and Esther (Newland) Kruchten. Gene married Gloria A. Jackson on Oct. 11, 1953.

Gene graduated from Bedford High School and served in the Indiana National Guard and the United States Navy.

He retired from Lewellen Manufacturing.

Gene enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and swinging on his front porch swing with his Gloria.

Funeral services were today at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th Street, Columbus. Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Wanda Jewell (Day) Decker, 91, Bedford, went to be with her Lord on Saturday. She passed peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Bedford.

She was born May 8, 1924, in Lawrence County, the daughter of William Paul and Elsie Geneva (Craig) Day. She married her high school sweetheart, Frank Decker Jr., on May 29, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Jan.12, 2002.

She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School with the class of 1942. Jewell and her husband spent the first years of their marriage in Dayton, Ohio, returning to Bedford in 1953 to open the Wishbone Restaurant on West 16th Street. Jewell was involved with Tupperware and Real Estate in the years following the closing of the Wishbone.

She and Frank enjoyed many years watching local sporting events, including their sons and grandchildren, and then they put an exclamation point on the Damon Bailey era by making a trip to Paris to watch him play for Pau Orthez in the French professional basketball league.

She will be missed by her daughter, Teresa Parker and her sons, Frank R. (Patty) Decker and Bill (Sheila) Decker, all of Bedford; grandchildren Tim (Kathy) Parker of Kansas City, Kan., Michelle (Jack) Newcomb of Bardstown, Ky., Amanda (Charlie) Gill of McEwen, Tenn., Robb (Rebecca) Decker of Solsberry and Aaron, Adam, Brandon and Will Decker, all of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Helton of Bowling Green, Ky., Vincent and JT Pike of Bardstown, Ky., Truman, Kainan and Audra Gill of McEwen Tenn., and Frankie, Henry and LilyBelle Decker of Solsberry; sister, Paula (Day) Player of Denver Colo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Jim Day.

Marcella Jo Elliott, 57, Bedford, passed away Saturday morning at her residence.

Born Nov. 3, 1958, in Orangeville, she was the daughter of Oscar and Mary Alice (Greene) Russell. She married Michael Carl Elliott Sept. 29, 1979, and he preceded her in death Oct. 1, 2014.

Marcella was a qualified medical assistant, and had worked at Mitchell Manor. She was previously employed at Noe’s Chicken House and Essex.

Marcella was a member of the Bride of Christ Fellowship.

She enjoyed spending long days going to yard sales and running errands with her mother and her sister, with whom she was very close. Marcella loved going on camping trips with her family. She was especially fond of all of her nieces and nephews, and she loved devoting her time and attention to all of them! Michael had given her the gift of a little dog (named Baby Girl) that quickly became her constant companion. Marcella was a kind and warm-hearted woman with many friends, and she was loved by all!

Surviving are her mother, Mary Russell of Mitchell; brother, Paul Eugene Russell of Orleans; sister, Sherry Lynn Russell of Mitchell; sisters-in-law, Sandra Bishop and Wanda Sanders, both of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

Her father and her husband preceded her in death.

Born, July 14, 1959 in Bloomington, he was the son of the late Herbert D. Buck and Phronzie I. Williamson.

Martin was in the Plastering and Stucco trade working for S and V Stucco in the Florida Keys and Chaudion Plastering in Indianapolis.

He also traveled internationally installing swimming pools for Horizon Golf.

Martin attended City Church in Bloomington.

Survivors include one son, Matthew Campbell (Amanda), one granddaughter, Elizabeth “Izzy” Campbell all of Bloomington, two sisters, Chrystal Wickline (Chuck) of Bedford, Sheila Buck of Bloomington, one brother, Steve Buck of Bloomington and three nieces and two nephews.

William R. Sceifers, 73, of Bedford, died at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born Feb. 9, 1942, in New Albany, he was the son of William H. and Martha L. (Mayfield) Sceifers. He graduated from Lanesville High School. He married Margaret Durant in Newport, R.I., on Jan. 10, 1964, and she survives.

He retired from Curtis Circulation as a district sales manager in 2007. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1960 to 1974 during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Mitchell; a daughter, Kimberley A. West and husband Mark Alan of Shoals; a son, William Sheldon Sceifers and wife Nicole of Fayetteville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Corquindale; three granddaughters, Erica Divine and husband Alex of Bloomfield, and Bailey and Sydnee Sceifers, both of Fayetteville, N.C.; a grandson, Matthew Allen West of Shoals; great-granddaughters, Chloe and Stella Divine of Bloomfield; a great-grandson, Blake Alan West of Shoals; three sisters, Sharon Skaggs of New Albany, Linda Thomas and husband Jerry of Lanesville and Connie Bolen of Henryville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary where a rosary service will be conducted at 3 p.m. with Deacon Dave Reising officiating.

James Rexford Wiseman, 87, of Bedford, died Tuesday at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born July 14, 1928, in Temple, he was the son of Jim and Edith (Mathers) Wiseman.

He was a retired millwright at General Motors and a veteran of World War II serving with the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 440, Masonic Lodge of Crawford, Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion, a life-time member of Bedford Eagles No. 654, Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club and Oolitic V.F.W.

Survivors include a son, Walter Wiseman and wife Amy of Bedford; daughters, Rita Watson and husband Nick of Clermont, Fla., Janet Leonard and husband Tom of Taswell and Lois Burton and husband Dave of Minneola, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Evelyn Rickenbaugh of English; his caregiver, Cathy Baker of Bedford; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Wiseman; and grandson, John Leonard.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Tom Leonard officiating. A committal service will be at noon at Mathers Cemetery in English, where military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of V.F.W. Post No. 6160.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the mortuary. An Eagles service will be at 7 p.m. on Friday at the mortuary.

David Joseph Berry, 56, of Oolitic, died Wednesday at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born Dec. 6, 1958, in Solsberry, he was the son of Lyle and Viola (Blunk) Berry. He married Mary Gerkin on March 1, 1986, and she survives.

He was an engineer at Four Winds Resort.

He was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church, the Oolitic Festival Committee and Oolitic Kiwanis. He loved riding his motorcycle, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Berry of Oolitic; three sons, Joseph Gerkin and wife Shandi and Randall Gerkin and wife Amy, all of Bedford and David Berry and wife Nicole, of Oolitic; five grandchildren, Shanda and Shayla King, Olivia and Reardon Gerkin and Eliana Berry; and one great-grandchild, Sylas Rivera.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marvin Perkins; two sisters, Clara Fyffe and Ellen Gray; and a brother, George Berry.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Roy Hughes officiating. A committal service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Solsberry Cemetery.

Helena Frances “Jackie” Nolan, 87, Mitchell, passed away Tuesday afternoon at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Aug. 18, 1928, in Connersville, she was the daughter of William Irwin and Elma Frances (O’Connell) Ross. She married Kenneth E. Nolan Oct. 22, 1948, and he preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1989.

Jackie was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church. She was a member of Dixie Club, and a 41-year member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority.

Surviving are son, Steven R. (Sharon) Nolan of Heltonville; grandchildren, Shane (Courtney) Nolan, Shannon (Eric) Duckworth and Susan (Charles) Day; great-grandchildren, Cade Nolan, Erin Day, Natalie Day, Alexandria Day, Asa Duckworth, and Matthew Day; great-great-grandson, Lyrick Day; and siblings, JoAnn Lange of Seymour and Jeanie Goebel and John Ross, both of Madison.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Laura Mae Phillips, Virginia Shelley, and William Ross, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Mike Collins officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Elvis J. Brown, Jr., 81, passed away Tuesday at White River Lodge in Bedford.

He was born June 20, 1934, to Elvis J. Brown Sr. and Mary Marguerite Holsapple Brown.

He is survived by his wife Vickie Holt Brown; three children and one stepdaughter; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One son preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Green Hill Cemetery, with Father Rick Eldred officiating.

Darrell Edward Lake, Jr., 68, West Concord, Minn., passed away on April 16 after an extended illness.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jane LeRoy Lake; three daughters, Cindy Reilly (Tim) of Omaha, Neb.; Kim Goracke (Steve) of Kansas City, Kan.; and Heather Ludlow (Aaron) of West Concord, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Katie, Abby, Christopher, Izzy, Jack and Bri; and a brother, Gary Lake of Omaha.

He was a son of Mary Lake of Omaha and the late Darrell Edward Lake Sr., and a native of Bedford. He graduated from Bedford High School and from Purdue University following a tour of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He enjoyed a long career in the energy industry, working with Marathon/Ashland Petroleum, the Murphy refinery in New Orleans, La., and Valero of Memphis, Tenn. He served most recently as Large Capital Projects Manager with Flint Hills Resources’ Pine Bend refinery in Rosemount, Minn.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Bedford.

Janie Leigh Webb, 68, of Bedford, died at 4:55 p.m. on Sunday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 24, 1947, in Bedford, she was the daughter of William and Patricia (Johnson) Reynolds. She attended Oolitic School and graduated from the Clarksville, Tenn., high school. She completed two years of college at Troy State University, Troy, Ala. She married Russell Webb on Feb. 8, 1964, and he survives.

Janie was a proud Army wife for 25 years. She raised her family and supported her husband during assignments both in the states and overseas. The overseas assignments included Germany, Viet Nam and the Republic of Panama.

She was the President of the Officer’s Wives’ Club at Fort Sheridan, Ill. After which she was a homemaker and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She was the President of the Mitchell United Steel Workers Union. She was a bus driver for the Clarksville, Tenn., School Corporation and a Susquehanna Valley, Pennsylvania special needs volunteer. She managed the Elliot Group Home, in Bedford.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Ervin Webb of Bedford; children, Russell Erin Webb of Fishers, Giuseppina A. Bartlett of Conway, Ark., Franco K. Webb of Fayetteville, N.C., Jay D. Webb of Bedford, Andrew R. Webb of Fayetteville, N.C., and Benjamin P. Webb, of Lubbock, Texas; eight grandchildren; her father, William Reynolds; a sister, Rebecca Reynolds; and a brother, William Reynolds.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia; and three brothers, Patrick, Auburn and Randy Reynolds.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary where a rosary service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Rhea Dawn (Walls) Sons, 57, Mitchell, passed away Friday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Aug. 2, 1958, in Paoli, she was the daughter of Donald Vern and Norma Jean (Shafer) Walls. She married Steven Brent Sons Dec. 17, 1983.

Rhea Dawn was a licensed practical nurse and had been employed at Bell Trace, Autumn Hills and Hoosier Uplands. She graduated from Bedford-North Lawrence High School in 1976.

Rhea Dawn never saw a stranger and was a friend to everyone. She enjoyed life, socializing, cooking, and reading.

Surviving are her husband, Steve Sons of Mitchell; daughter, Stephanie Nicole Kendall of Mitchell; father, Donald V. Walls of Mitchell; grandson, Caden Dale Eli Kendall; sisters, Rhonda Lynn Walls and Roxane Ranae (Andrew Patrick) Sanders, both of Bedford.

Her mother; special family member, Tyler Lee Shafer; grandparents, Lucille and Bill Whitney, Olive Dailey, and Charles and Mary Sons; and special friend, Nancy Thompson, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Roy R. Ramey

Roy R. Ramey, 93, Mitchell, passed away Monday morning at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 3, 1922, in Mitchell, he was the son of Hisle and Bessie (Mann) Ramey. He married Edith Burton Jan. 22, 1944.

Roy was a stone mason and had been employed at U.S. Gypsum. He was a 25-year school bus driver for Mitchell Community Schools, and was a member of the 1940 Mitchell High School Basketball Team, Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, and an 82-year member of the First Christian Church.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Honor Guard and 65-year member of American Legion Post No. 250 and also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 9107.

Surviving are his wife, Edith Ramey of Mitchell; son, Roy “Rick” (Janice) Ramey of Mitchell; daughter, Barbara Ann (Bob) White of Mitchell; grandchildren, Tara LeAnn Ramey, Kimberly Brooke Manning, Troy Matthew Ramey, and Julie Ann Ortman; great-grandchildren, Kalyn Brooke White, Clayton Royce Manning, Kamdyn Ramey Manning, Victoria Ann Ortman, Joseph Robert Ortman, Olivia Ann Ortman and McKenna Grace Ramey; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; siblings, Ethel Bundy, Emmett “Whitey” Ramey, Glenmore Ramey, Clayton “Metzie” Ramey, Woodrow Wilson Ramey, Delbert Ramey, Robert Roland Ramey, and Walter Ramey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Mary Katherine Burton, preceded him in death.

Violet Hedrick, 82, Mitchell, passed away Thursday evening at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born June 17, 1933, in Trinity Springs, she was the daughter of Luther M. and Rosey Ann (Chasteen) Gilbert. She married Murlin Jones in 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1970. Her second marriage was to Harold Hedrick Nov. 28, 1971, and he also preceded her in death.

Violet was a caregiver and had been affiliated with Fishing Creek Chapel and Alfordsville Christian Church. She was a member of the Mitchell Senior Citizens.

Surviving are sons, Murlin Jones of Port Orange, Fla., and David Lee Jones of Mitchell; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Viola Parsley of Dover Hill and George Gilbert of Terre Haute.

Her parents; husbands; siblings, Donald Gilbert, Albert Gilbert, Delbert Gilbert, Iva Russell, Ernest Gilbert, Everett Gilbert; and special friend, Catherine Kavanaugh, preceded her in death.

Olin Marion Todd, 83, of Norman, passed away on Wednesday October 28, 2015 at Golden Living Center. Olin was born July 11, 1932 in Lawrence County and was the son of the late Logan C. and Izolla (Hawkins) Todd. Olin was a retired Stone Mill Worker. His family church was Blackwell Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include three sons; Danny (Cathy) Todd of Bloomington, Philip Todd of Norman and Michael (Angela) Todd of Norman. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Lindsey (Todd) Martin, Angel Raney, Tara Todd, Kaylee (Caleb) McMillan, and Emily Todd, 4 great grandchildren; Reid Jackson Martin, Tatelynn McCory, Marie McCory, and Aubree Beasley, 2 sisters; Sharon Arthur and Onita Smith and 4 brothers; Wayne Todd, Elmer Todd, Otis Todd and Alfred Todd.

Olin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Alice Fern Todd who passed away in January 2014, great granddaughter; Livia Faye Martin, great grandson, Brayson Tackett, sisters; Kay Todd, Geneva Rose, Irene Smiley, and Fern Axsom, and brothers; Dean Todd, Hanford Todd, Oval Todd and Gerald Todd.

Services for Olin will be 2:00pm Tuesday November 3, 2015 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Pastor Darin Bowlen of Blackwell Pentecostal Church will officiate the service and burial will follow at Gilgal Cemetery in Lawrence County.

Visitation will be on Monday November 2, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at The Funeral Chapel.
