McLaughlin – Damon H. McLaughlin of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, September 30, 2006, at the Kindred Hospital South in Greenwood. Born on January 24, 1928, in Lyons, IN, he was the son of Orville and Opal (Richardson) McLaughlin. He married Helen Rayhill on May 19, 1961, in Bedford, IN, and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Melissa Cody and husband, James, of Linton, IN; one sister, Melba Keesey of Anderson, IN; three granddaughters: Holly Kittle and husband, Josh, of Danville, IL, Stacey Cody and Natalie Cody, both of Linton, IN; one grandson, Willy Cody of Linton, IN; and one great-grandson, Jacob Kittle of Danville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, June Bogard. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center fire department in 1980. He was also former owner of the McLaughlin Oil Company in Bedford, IN. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 14 and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at the Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford, IN. Burial will follow in the Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Blackburn – Alice L. Blackburn of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, at the Lakeview Nursing Home in Indianapolis, IN. Born on September 19, 1924, in Norman, IN, she was the daughter of Sylvester N. and Martha "Nettie" (Kindred) Cummings. She married Carl "Bob" Blackburn on January 14, 1942, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2006. Surviving are three daughters: Sharon K. Bodeau and husband, Norman, of Punta Gorda, FL, Mary Jo Thompson and husband, Reverend Charles "Woody", of Avon, IN, and Tammy Miller; one brother, Paul A. Cummings of Forsyth, MO; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, William Robert Blackburn on September 28, 1946. She was a co-owner of Bee's Remodeling, Heating and Cooling in Bedford for eighteen years. She was secretary of the Green Hill Cemtery in Bedford for four years. She attended the Bedford High School. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Bedford, and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 129, Bedford. She attended the Bible Study Fellowship in Bloomington for eight years. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2006, at the Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford, IN. Burial will follow in the Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Parker of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, at the Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, IN. Born on July 10, 1939, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Frederick C. and Helen M. (Schmidt) Bigham. She married Ted Parker on June 12, 1963, and he survives. Also surviving are one son, Rob Parker and wife, Amy, of Mitchell, IN; two daughters: Jamie Philpott and husband, Rick, of Mitchell, IN, and Jill Morse and husband, Mark, of Mitchell, IN; three half-brothers: Frederick C. Bigham III of Chicago, IL, Robert Bigham of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Dean Smith of Mitchell, IN; and eleven grandchildren: Jesse and Emma Parker, Stacy, Cory, Ricci, Cari, and Jeri Philpott, Alix Richey, Natalie, Bridget and Eric Morse. She was preceded in death by her parents. She retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane in 1991. She was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She had been associated with the Mitchell Girls' Softball League since 1977. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2006, at the Mitchell Presbyterian Church with Pastor C. Allen Colwell and Brother Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery. Parsley – Mary Elizabeth (Simmerman) Parsley of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, at the StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford. Born on February 26, 1917, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of John Everett "Mike" and Carrie Mae (Inman) Simmerman. She married Lloyd Parsley on October 12, 1940, and he survives. Also surviving are are two sons: Clovis Parsley and wife, Jeanette, and Dennis Parsley and wife, Rhonda; one brother, Edgridge Simmerman; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Viola Owens and Dovie Barnette; and one brother, Paul Simmerman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Central Church of Christ. Sallee – Jackie "Jack" Dale Sallee of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, at the Westview Nursing and Rehab in Bedford. Born on July 12, 1928, in Buddha, IN, he was the son of Clifford (Teedlo) and Lorene (Starr) Sallee. He married Kathryn Ingle on June 28, 1947, and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Gary Dale Sallee of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers: Robert "Bob" Sallee of Bedford, IN, and Harold "Dick" Sallee of Tell City, IN; one sister, June Waldon and husband, Bill, of Bedford, IN; two grandsons: Benjamin and Patrick Sallee of Indianapolis, IN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. He retired from the United States Postal Service after twenty-two years of service as a letter carrier. He was a former employee of the Farm Bureau Co-op. He was a graduate of the Tunnelton High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford, Leesville Masonic Lodge #16 and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, IN. He was a thirteen-year member of the BNL Booster Club. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Bedford, IN, with Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. Clements – Charles Robert "Bob" Clements of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at the Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, IN. Born on September 24, 1922, in Orleans, IN, he was the son of Charles T. and Sarah Lee (West) Clements. He married Annabelle Elliott on March 2, 1938, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters: Marylou Dinkins and husband, Robert A., of Mitchell, IN, and Rebecca Ann Clements of Bloomington, IN; two brothers: Frank Clements of Bedford, IN, and John Clements of New Jersey; one sister, Ethel Collins of Orleans, IN; five grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Kenny and Merle Clements; four sisters: Margaret Hatfield, Catherine Clements, Mildred Clements and Jeannie Walters, and one grandson, Douglas Bennett. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. He was a member and deacon of Spice Valley Baptist Church. He was employed at Wheeler-Foutch for twenty-five years and was a car salesman for more than thirty years. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2006, at the Spice Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Lewis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Spice Valley Cemetery. Odaffer – Peggy Ware Odaffer of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born on October 9, 1923, in Calio, MO, she was the daughter of Roland and Margery (Jackson) Goodrich. She married Clyde Odaffer on November 12, 1944, in Jacksonville, IL, and he survives. Also surviving are two sons: Craig Odaffer and wife, Jeanne, of Bedford, IN, and Kent Odaffer and wife, Kathy, of Yuma, AZ; two grandchildren: Jennifer McPike of Ellettsville, IN, and Chad Odaffer and wife, Tina, of Indianapolis, IN; and two great-grandchildren: C.J. and Tyler McPike. She was preceded in death by her parents. She and her husband, Clyde, were the owners of Western Auto and Stephenson's Clothing in Bedford. She was a member of the Class of 1941 of the Jacksonville High School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Churc, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Business and Professional Woman's Association all in Bedford. Wilson – Kameron Madden Wilson of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. He was the son of Andy Wilson and Nikki Nicholson, and they survive. Also surviving are one brother, Kaden Wilson at home; one sister, Karli Wilson at home; grandparents: Susie Nicholson and Les Tipton, Sr., Kelly and Jeff Boruff, all of Bedford, IN, Larry and Lori Nicholson of West Baden, IN, and Les and Becky Wilson of Greene County, IN; aunts and uncles: Angela Scott of Bloomington, IN, Crissy Hutchens and Matt Wilson, both of Bedford, IN; great-grandparents: Elmer and Martha Strunk of Bedford, IN, and Duane and Judy Nicholson of Paoli, IN; and several cousins. Cummings – Katherine Gaile Cummings of Bloomington, IN, died Mondaym, September 25, 2006, in Bloomington. Born on October 15, 1918, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Delbert A. and Ethel (Allen) Todd. She married George Cummings on October 24, 1953, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, John Flynn of Bloomington, IN; two step-daughters: Patricia Lyons of Springville, IN, and Barbara Todd of Vermillion, OH; one sister, Mary Alice Stevens of Bedford, IN; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters: Margie and Thelma Todd. She was a homemaker and a life=long member of the Mitzi Club. Mann – Howard R. "Sorry" Mann of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born on September 5, 1919, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of John and Ruth (Dodd) Mann. He married Geneva White on March 3, 1940, and she preceded him in death on November 7, 1974. He then married Gayle Laverne Sheeks on July 14, 1982, and she survives. Also surviving are three sons: John H. Mann and wife, Connie, of Versailles, IN, Charles R. Mann and wife, Jerri, of Brownsburg, IN, and Jim Sheeks of Monrovia, IN; one daughter, Susi Mann and husband, Mike, of Mitchell, IN; five grandchildren: Jennifer Tabor and husband, Roy, of Indianapolis, IN, Teresa Donehue and husband, Dave, of Pittsburg, PA, Laci Egli and husband, Kevin, of Mitchell, IN, Mr. and Mrs. Brady Mann of Fairbank, IA, Melanie Shaff and husband, John, of Mitchell, IN; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles Mann, and one sister, Mary Frances Newman. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army in Germany during World War II. He was a fifty-year member and past-commander of the American Legion Cecil C. Martin Post No. 250, and a member of the Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. He owned Mann's Grocery for sixteen years and retired from Carpenter Body Works. He was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church in Mitchell, IN. Martin on August 31, 1940, and he preceded her in death on January 20, 1999. Surviving are one daughter, Rose Ellen Martin Gregory and husband, David E., of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren: Terri Gregory Belcher and husband, Robert, David "Alan" Gregory, all of Bedford, IN, Michael Wayne Gregory and wife, Nicole, of Millington, TN, and Lisa Ramsay Dalton and husband, Mike, of Oolitic, IN; six great-grandchildren: Hannah Gregory, Madison Gregory, Clayton Gregory, Brad Childers, Mike Dalton and Josh Dalton; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Linda Martin Ramsay; two sisters: Lucille Lake and Helen Hazel; three brothers: Cecil, Kenneth and Claude Parker, Jr.; and one nephew, Ray Parker. She was a homemaker and had worked on the assembly line at Sarkes-Tarzian Inc., for several years. She was of the Christian faith. Vlashitz – Theresa Vlashitz of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center in Bedford, IN. She was born on October 13, 1928, in Gary, IN. Surviving are two daughters: Gloria Minton and husband, Mike, of Rensselaer, IN, and Bonnie Ann Carter of Bedford, IN; three grandsons: Roger Hilton Collier of Mitchell, IN, Michael Minton of Rensselaer, IN, and Jason William Hilton of Mitchell, IN; one granddaughter, Brandy Lee Bannister of Rensselaer, IN; and two great-grandchildren: Gavin Lee Collier of Bedford, IN, and Hayden Hilton of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Ed Hilton. She was a widow and a homemaker. She attended the Mitchell First Church of God. Hedrick – Charles P. Hedrick of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the Mitchell Manor Nursing Center. Born on September 15, 1918, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Clyde and Minnie (Brewer) Hedrick. He married Kathryn M. Cooper on September 15, 1940, and she preceded him in death on May 9, 1990. Surviving are two daughter: Sherry Kendall and husband, Jeff, and Sheila Flora and husband, George, both of Mitchell, IN; four grandchildren: Anthony Kendall, Holly Kendall and Jody Lashlee, all of Mitchell, IN, and April Flora of Salem, IN; three great-grandchildren: Tevin Lashlee, Dayson Lashlee and Kathryn Marie Sykes, all of Mitchell, IN; and one step-sister, Margie Martin of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Charlotte Hedrick. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He retired from the Crane Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in 1981. He was a sixy-two year member of the American Legion Cecil C. Martin Post No. 250 and was honorary chaplain at the time of his death. He was a member of the Mitchell Grissom Kiwanis Club for more than thirty years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at the First Christian Church in Mitchell, IN. Livingston – Robert "Max" Livingston of Orleans, IN, died Friday, September 22, 2006, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford, IN. Born on January 16, 1926, in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of Claude and Anna (Quillen) Livingston. He married Donna Wessell on March 28, 1970, and she survives. Also surviving are four sons: Roger Livingston and wife, Hope, of Mitchell, IN, David Livingston and wife, Sheena, of Williams, IN, Tommy Livingston and fiancee, Caribeth Payne, of Bedford, IN, and Robert Livingston of Orleans, IN; two daughters: Bobbie Livingston and fiancee, Troy Bell, of Orleans, IN, and Debbie Nelson and husband, Dave, of Salem, IN; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Clovis Livingston; two sisters: Eva Spires and Olive Hutton; three daughters: Vicky Livingston, Joyce Livingston and Diana Livingston; and one son, Randy Livingston. He was a veteran serving in the United States Navy during World War II, where he was disabled in combat. He was a member of the American Legion Cecil C. Martin Post No. 250 in Mitchell, IN. Crane – LaDonna Jane Crane of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, September 21, 2006, at her residence. Born on October 12, 1962, in Johnson County, IN, she was the daughter of Rufo and Alice (Bond) Crane. Surviving are three brothers: Russell Crane and wife, Judy of Washington state, Jim Crane and wife, Dody, of Springville, IN, and Tim Crane of Paoli; one sister, Lisa Wilcoxen and husband, John, of Bedford, IN; three nephews: Justin and Jesse Crane and Travis Tarrants; one niece, Christina Shaw; one great-niece, Andrea Nicole Shaw; and one great-nephew, Cameron Michael Shaw. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Tina Sullivan and LeeAnn Mears. She attended the Bedford North Lawrence High School in Bedford, IN, and was of the Baptist faith. Born on May 14, 1921, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Cloyd and Marie (Worak) Trisler. She married Harry L. Riggle on March 14, 1970, and he preceded her in death on November 24, 1988. Surviving are one step-daughter, Madlyn Sullivan and husband, Frank, of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren: Brad Fields and Amy Goodman and husband, Tony; one great-grandson, Zachary Goodman; one half-sister, Bernice Floyd of Rockville, IN; three nieces: Mandy Malony of Tennessee, Deidra Pittsinger of Ohio and Denise Farr of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Eleanor Miller and one brother, Robert Spires. She had worked in the Well's Dress Shop in Bedford. She then worked with the Lawrence County Welfare Department as a child welfare caseworker and interim director, retiring after twenty-three years of service. She was voted Indiana Caseworker of the Year by her peers of the Indiana Caseworkers' Association in 1974. She was a member of the Class of 1928 of the Bedford High School. She was an active member of the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church, the Forensic Forum, Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority of Bedford, and the John Wallace Chapter of the Daughters' of the American Revolution, having served as Regent. She had also served on the boards of the Lawrence County American Red Cross, Mental Health and the Executive Board of the Council for the Aging. Fitzgerald – Fern Fitzgerald of Bedford, IN, died Monday, September 4, 2006, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on January 17, 1920, in Williams, IN, she was the daughter of ennis and Della Mae (Sheetz) Mayfield. She married William Fitzgerald on May 6, 1961, and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1988. Surviving are two step-sons: Vic Fitzgerald of Bedford, IN, and William Michael Fitzgerald of Long Beach, CA; two step-daughters, Jennifer Moors of Bell Flower, CA, and Victoria Fitzgerald of Long Beach, CA; one brother, Beryl Mayfield of Ellettsville, IN; nine step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Forrest Glenn Mayfield; and two sisters: Bernice Mayfield and Lorene Holsapple. She had worked at General Motors, retiring in 1979 after thirty years of service as a production worker. He was employed by Cosners Ice Company as a delivery driver. He was a member of the Class of 1990 of the Bloomington High School North and a graduate of Purdue University. Abel – Julia Abel of Bedford, IN, died Friday, September 1, 2006, at the Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, IN. Born on August 14, 1916, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Blaskieweiz) Jarecki. She married Walter T. Abel and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Surviving are one son, Tom Abel and companion, Emile, of Richmond, MI; three grandchildren: Jennifer Johnson, Tommy Abel and Patrick Abel, all of Michigan; and one great-grandson, Anthony Johnson of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one daughter, Margaret, in infancy in 1948.

She was a veteran of the United States Army. She had been a sales clerk at Kresge's Department Store in Bedford, IN. She had also worked at the Three Pigs Restaurant in Bedford. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at the Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford, IN. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at the Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford. A rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m.

Chase – Ivan Neal Chase of Bedford, IN, died Friday, September 1, 2006, at the Bloomington, Hospital in Bloomington, IN. Born on April 27, 1920, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of Thomas H. and Effie L. (Henderson) Chase. He first married Jane A. Kaney and she preceded him in death. He later married Betty J. Medlock Perry and she also preceded him in death. He then married Evelyn Miller Orr and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters: Sandra Kay Brozowski of Georgia and Linda Lee Anderson of Bloomington, IN; one step-son, Mark Perry of Bedford, IN; three step-daughters: Aimmie Marie Ravenna of Bedford, IN, Shellie Boruff of Bloomington, IN, and Elaine Brown; one sister, Blanche Scherschel of Bloomington, IN; four grandchilren, ten step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and four brothers.

He was a veteran serving in the United States Army during World War II. He retired after forty-two years of service from the Bedford National Bank. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Bedford, the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, IN, American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, 40 & 8.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 4, 2006, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford, IN, with Reverend Bob Dailey officiating. Gardner – Rae Anne Gardner of Bedford, IN, died Friday, September 1, 2006, at the Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, IN. Born on May 26, 1951, in Bloomington, IN, she was the daughter of Ray and Elizabeth Anne (Chastain) Tapp.

Surviving are one brother, Philip Tapp of Bloomington, IN, one sister, Kitty Brim of Indianapolis, IN, and her companion, Gary Gaiser of Bedford, IN.

She was a legal secretary and a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 Auxiliary, the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club, the Eagles Lodge and a former member of the Bedford Elks Lodge.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford, IN, with Pat Blyeth officiating. Pruett – Carl Pruett of Huron, IN, died Friday, September 1, 2006, at the Hospitality House in Bedford, IN. Born on December 23, 1935, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Homer and Gertrude (Terrell) Pruett. He married Wanda Sue King on February 2, 1965, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Trent Pruett and wife, Becky, of Huron, IN; two grandchildren: Emma Rose and Justin Bruce Pruett; two sisters: Mary Wigley of Mitchell, IN, and Carolyn Cooper of Paoli, IN; and one brother, Clifford Pruett of Campbellsburg, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Elza Jackson Pruett and Gordon Dale Pruett.

He had been employed at Extruded Alloys, Lawrence County Highway Department and Mitchell Crushed Stone. He was a member of the Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church and Tri-County Antique Farm Machinery Association.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, in the Memorial Chapel of the Chastain Funeral Home in Mitchell, IN, with Pastor Rob Martindale officiating. Stultz – Ralph Garland Stultz of Bedford, IN, died Friday, September 1, 2006, at his residence. Born on July 24, 1929, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Raymond and Eula (Jackson) Stults. He married Patty L. Wagoner on August 19, 1950, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Lyman G. Stultz and wife, Lisa, of Bedford, IN; two daughters: Roxana Oliver and husband, Sunny, of Bedford, IN, and Charity Avera and husband, David, of Missouri City, TX; and two sisters: Reva Stipp and husband, Raymond, and Janice McPike and husband, Jerry, all of Bedford, IN; grandchildren: Luke and Lauren Stultz Ashley and Allison Oliver, Connor, Dalton and Brock Avera; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Jean Stultz of Columbus, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Stultz.

He was a veteran serving in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1952. He was a member of the Class of 1947 of the Shawswick High School. He retired from Crane Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in 1988. He served an apprenticeship in drafting at Indiana Limestone Company. He later worked as a certified engineering technician at NWSC Crane until his retirement in 1988. He was one of the founders of the Hillcrest Christian Church in 1966. He and his wife, Patty, opened their home for church services for the first six months. They then moved to the parsonage in 1967 and held services there until 1970 when they move into the current church, which Ralph designed. He was an active member of the Hillcrest Christian Church for forty years and served as an elder from 1966 until 1988.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at the Hillcrest Christian Church in Bedford, IN, with Reverend Gary Cornwell and Ralph's nephew, Dan Stipp, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Silverville, IN.
