02/27/06

Godsey – Charles Lee Godsey of Springville, IN, died Monday, February 27, 2006 at the Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on October 12, 1937, in Springville, IN, he was the son of Charles Beckam and Laura Alice Hall Godsey.

Surviving are two sisters, Alice Wilson Peterson and her husband, Gary of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Judy Stephenson and her husband, Louis, Sr. of Bedford, IN; eight nieces and nephews: Jay and Tina Wilson of Springville, IN, Monty and Lois Wright of Williams, IN, Louis Jr. and Jenny Stephenson of Bedford, IN, Jim and Alice Ann Alesia of Ft. Wayne, IN; six great nieces and nephews: Alex and Annie Alesia, Tyler and Whitney Wilson, Luke and Drew Charles Stephenson; a cousin, Paula Godsey (Gene) Lucas (who lived in the home for several years) of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janet.

A graduate of Oolitic High School and Indiana University with both BS and MS degrees in Elementary Education, he was a fifth grade teacher for 34 years at South Elementary School in Pendleton, IN, retiring in 1993 to help his father on the farm. He coached fifth grade basketball teams for many years and served as an official at numerous sports activities for Pendleton Heights High School. He was a lifetime member of the Springville United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and participated in many programs, a 41 year member of Lions Club, a member of Lawrence County Retired Teachers’ Association, and a board member for Springville Cemetery West. He had belonged to NEA, ISTA, and SMEA, and was a member of a Lion’s Club Bowling Team in Anderson, IN.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, March 3rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Keven Giggy officiating. Burial will follow in Springville West Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm on Thursday and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family requests that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the South Madison Community Foundation to establish an athletic scholarship in Charlie’s name.

Martin – James E. Martin of Bloomington, IN, died Monday, February 27, 2006, at the Fontainbleu Nursing and Rehab Center in Bloomington. Born March 31, 1924 in Springville, IN, he was the son of James L. and Stella (Flynn) Martin. He married Elsie Skeens and she preceded him in death. He later married Stephanie Norkus and she also preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, James Martin, Jr. and his wife, Diana of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Betty Turner of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both wives; two brothers, Lloyd and Howard Cassidy; three sisters, Dorothy Wright, Pauline Jerrells and Juanita Johnson.

He was a carpenter, retiring in 1975 and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 1st at the Green Hill Cemetery. No calling hours are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Williams – Warren Williams of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, February 27, 2006, at his residence. Born on November 4, 1918, he was the son of Oscar and Cora (Tincher) Williams. He married Flossie Bex on July 31,m 1943, and she died June 27, 1997.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald R. Williams of Mitchell, IN, and Leroy Williams of Haubstadt, IN; one daughter, Brenda Reynolds of Bedford, IN; one brother, Jess Williams of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Dorothy McCart of Mitchell, IN, and Lorene Ashley of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, and five sisters.

He retired from Carpenter Body Works in Mitchell and was a member of the Orleans Church of Christ.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 2nd, at Haverly Mortuary with the Rev. Brian Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. until the service time Thursday at Haverly Mortuary.

Hale – Della Mae Hale of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 26, 2006, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford. Born May 22, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Oscar and Elizabeth (Edwards) Myers. She married Otho Thomas “Bud” Hale on Nov. 30, 1938, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Sue Ann Bough, Bedford, IN; one granddaughter, Noelle Clouse and husband Wesley of Lebanon, IN; one grandson, Sean Scott Bough and his fiancée Amy Robrecht of Bedford, IN; one great-grandson, Eli Calvin Clouse, Lebanon, IN, and one great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Clouse, Lebanon, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Roger Eugene Hale; three sisters, Ruth Silvers, Doris Hall and Marie Duncan; three brothers, Elvie Myers in infancy, Raymond Myers and Arthur Myers.

She formerly worked at Aldens Department Store, Carriage House Furniture and other retail businesses. She was a member of Free Methodist Church in Bedford and an active member of the Bedford Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 1st, at the Free Methodist Church in Bedford. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.

Simmons – Sherry Lynn Hildum Simmons of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 26, 2006, at her residence. Born August 5, 1964. in Kalamazoo, MI, she was the daughter of Walter Ladon and Rosalie Jean (Meek) Hildum. She married Christian Simmons on September 4, 1990, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are her father, Walter, of Bloomington, IN; her mother, Rosalie of Bedford, IN; three daughters: Shannyn Hunter and Cassie Hildum both of Bedford, IN, and Rebecca Hildum of Paoli, IN; two grandchildren on the way; two brothers, Val Meek and Bruce White, both of Bloomington, IN; six sisters: Donna Meek of Shelbyville, IN, Shelley Nisbet and Connie Lemmons, both of Bloomington, IN, Rosie Hildum of Oolitic, IN, Bonnie Hildum and Nicole Harris, both of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by twin sons, Sean and Shane Hildum who were stillborn.

She had worked as an aide in the nursing field and was a member of the Wildwood Community Church in Mitchell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 1st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Reno Bates officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday.

Cascone – Betty Louise Cascone of Lake Wales, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Lake Wales Medical Center. Born May 27, 1940, in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of Robert and Emma (Jacobs) Rodman. She married John Cascone, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Teresa Tolbert of Mitchell, IN, and Gina Cascone of Key West, FL; two sons, Norvin Jones of Shoals, IN, and Johnny Jones and his wife, Betty, of Williams, IN; five brothers: Robert Rodman and his wife, Frances of Louisville, KY, James Rodman and his wife, Mary Helen, of Lake Wales, FL, David Rodman and his wife, Cecelia, of Louisville, KY, Edward Rodman and his wife, Sherry, of Bedford, IN, and Carl Rodman and his wife, Diana, of Louisville, KY; one sister, Carol Thrasher and her husband, Marvin, of Bedford, IN; and three grandsons, James Brown, Justin Brown, Jeremy Brown. Her parents preceded her in death.

She was a retired teacher's aid at North Lawrence Community Schools, and of the Baptist faith.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 6th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Main officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Randolph – James “Ollie” Randolph of East Oolitic, IN, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at his residence. Born on Jan. 30, 1923, in Casey County, KY, he was the son of Elmer and Carlona (Luttrell) Randolph. He married Lucille Tow of Shoals in 1942 and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Larry Wayne Randolph and his wife Rita of Bedford, IN, and Jim Kenneth Randolph and his wife Linda of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Debra Kay Ritter and her husband Jerry of Springville, IN, and Sherry Lynn Perkins and her husband Jerry of Mooresville, IN; eight grandchildren: Donny Wright, Robyn Williams, Troy Ritter, Trisha Patton, J.R. Randolph, Danielle Todd, Stacy and Megan Perkins; six great-grandchildren: Danielle and D.J. Wright, Carlie Williams, Cheaney and Calie Ritter and Taylor Patton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arlis and Ernest Randolph; and one sister, Oneda Randolph.

He attended Needmore School and then retired from General Motors in 1982. He was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church and UAW No. 440. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Revs. Merle and Nellie Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Springville Christian Cemetery with military rites accorded at the grave by the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to Shawswick 1st Respond Unit.

Rainey – Bernice Reba (Turpen) Rainey of Heltonville, IN, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 20, 1919, she was the daughter of John Wesley and Esta Lovina (Byers) Turpen. She married William Lawrence Rainey and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are four sons, Bill Rainey and wife Janet, Saginaw, MI, Jerry Rainey and wife Sue of Bedford, IN, John Rainey and wife Carol, Bedford, IN, Dean Rainey and wife Penny of Pendleton, IN; one son-in-law, G. Douglas Owens, Pendleton, IN; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Rainey, Markleville, IN; 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lawrence Rainey; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Owens; one son, Ralph Howard Rainey; two granddaughters, Kelly Rainey Fox and Teresa Rainey who died in infancy; six brothers: Guy, Glenn, Roy, Ray, Bruce and Beryle Turpen.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Heltonville Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 1st, at the Englewood Baptist Church with Bro. Dave Ferry and Bro. David Brown officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens in Bedford. Johnson – Foster Johnson of Kalona, IA, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, February 23, 2006, at his residence. Born December 7, 1934, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Hillard and Goldie (York) Johnson.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Johnson, Kalona, IA; one daughter, Debbie Serchia and her husband, Mark, California; one son, Wesley Johnson, of Kalona, IA; stepchildren: Glenn Carpenter and his wife, Ruby, of Phoeniz, AZ, Belinda Donley and her husband, Walker, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Marianne Blasingame and her husband, Earl, of Kalona, IA; two sisters, June Blasingame, of Kalona, IA, and Kathy Maxey and her husband, Dave, of Ogallala, NE; one brother, Bill Johnson and his wife, Sharon, of Frisco City, AL; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebekah Johnson; brothers, Charles and Ralph Johnson; and grandson, Austin Blasingame.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1st, at Port William Cemetery with Pastor Ron Breese officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Chastain Funeral Home.

Slate – Rosemary Elizabeth Slate of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, February 23, 2006, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on May 11, 1982 in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of John Slate and Rosanna McCart. She married Rhett Lewis in February 2004 and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter: Gwendalyn Crews of Bedford, IN; her father, John Slate and her mother, Rosanna McCart, both of Bedford, IN; one sister: Sarah Slate and her fiancé, Tristan Hutcherson of Bedford, IN; one brother: Benjamin McQueary of Port Charlotte, FL; paternal grandparents: Jim and Ruth Slate of Bedford, IN; maternal grandmother, Rosemary Quackenbush of Port Charlotte, FL; one nephew, Brayden Hutcherson of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by paternal great grandparents, Opal and Mary Sipes; maternal great-grandparents: Frank and Rose Quackenbush; one aunt: Judy Slate

Edwards – Larry Lee Edwards of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. He was born on May 30, 1937.

Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Edwards, Mitchell; three sons, John Edwards, Orleans, Jeff Edwards, Mitchell, and Robert Edwards, Paoli; one daughter, Cindy Edwards, Columbus; his mother, Rachel Edwards, Orleans; three sisters, Barbara Sue Edwards, Orleans, Brenda Burris, Mitchell, and Tammy Knight, Orleans; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was formerly employed at RCA and Kimball, Inc.

There will be no visitation or funeral. Memorial gifts may be made to Harvest Community Church of Mitchell. Chastain Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Drake – Charles W. Drake Jr. of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 20, 2006, at his residence. Born September 2, 1941, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Charles W. Drake Sr. and Edna Viola (Bane) Drake. He was married to Alice F. Fleener and she survives.

Surviving with his wifeare one stepson, Tim Fleener, of Bedford, IN; one stepdaughter, Loretta Fleener, Bedford, IN; three grandchildren: Brayden Fleener, Steven L. Taylor and McKaylee NyKole Robertson, all of Bedford, IN; one sister, Janet Sue Clark, of Bloomington, IN; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert E. Drake.

He attended Bloomington High School and was a graduate of Lake City Community College in Lake City, FL. He was retired from Laborer's International Union Local No. 741 in Bloomington, IN. After retirement he worked as a security guard for Hoosier Aggregate in Bloomfield, IN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1686, American Legion Post No. 33, Bedford, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 654 of Bedford. He was a member of Scotland Full Gospel Church.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until the service time Wednesday.

Duncan – Jackie Albert Duncan of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 19, 2006, at his residence. Born Feb. 26, 1944, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Henry Albert and Sophia Lou (Woods) Duncan. He married Joyce C. Mundy in May 1965, and she died Dec. 29, 2000.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Lou Roberts and her husband Jason of Bedford, IN; three sons: Ronnie Duncan and wife, Mary, of Bedford, IN, and Greg and Jay Duncan, both of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren; one sister, Linda Gardner, of Bloomfield, IN; one brother, Mike Duncan, of Bedford, IN; one uncle, Bradley Duncan, of Mitchell, IN, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He worked for 32 years as a mechanic for Newco Metals in Needmore. He was of the Christian faith and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Tom Jones and Pastor Ronnie McLain officiating. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hoober – Martha E. Hoober of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Friday, February 17, 2006, at Bell Trace in Bloomington, IN. Born on January 31, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Emery Rosenbaum and Grace (Jeans) Rosenbaum. She was married to Lloyd D. Gossman and C. Henry Hoober, both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters: Rita Fortner and her husband, Ron, of Bloomington, IN, and Shirley Hutton and her husband, Vernon of Westchester, OH; six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; one sister: Dorothy Gregory of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands and one sister: Ruth Rosenbaum.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 20th, at Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bob Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Brownstown Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the service hour.

Swango – Betty J. Swango of Bedford, IN, died Friday, February 17, 2006, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born January 5, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Mike Stipp and Nellie (Tanksley) Stipp.

Surviving are two daughters: Loretta Bailey and her husband, David of Heltonville, IN; Mary Barnett and her husband, Benny of Bedford, IN; two sons: Mike Swango and his wife, Belinda of Bedford, IN, and Jeff Swango and his girlfriend, Joy of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren: David Bailey Jr., Donald Bailey, Tammy Eager, Bobby Barnett, Mark Barnett, Michael Fleetwood, Kortni Sowders and Samantha Swango; six great-grandchildren: Georgia Bailey, Ashley Eager, Lisa Eager, Mary Anna Barnett, Elizabeth Barnett and Kaleb Sowders; three nephews: Bill Gillum, Mike Gillum and Larry Younger. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son: Mark Swango and two sisters: Helen Gillum and Mary Younger.

She retired in 1989 from Jay C Store and was a member of the Heltonville United Methodist Church and Indiana Farm Bureau.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 21st, at the Heltonville United Methodist Church with Revs. George Greathouse and Richard Chase officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Run Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, February 20th from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Day & Carter Mortuary and on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the service hour. Donations may be made to the Pleasant Run Cemetery Association and to the Heltonville United Methodist Church.

Berry – Edna (Wykoff) Berry of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, February 16, 2006, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on January 12, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the oldest of 10 children of Dudley and Avis (Taylor) Wykoff. She first married William Fuller and later married Robert Berry.

Surviving are two children, Gregory S. Berry and Joan Fuller Mitchell and her husband Paul, of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Tyrus “Ty” S. Mathews and wife Deedra of Heltonville, IN, and Tracy Mathews Stidam of Bedford, IN; four great-grandchildren, Jarrid and Justin Mathews of Heltonville, IN, Evan Folk and Levi Stidam of Bedford, IN; five brothers, Dudley II, Robert Sr., Thomas, Roger and Jon Wykoff, all of Bedford; two sisters, Sue Wykoff of Bedford and Carol Scroggins of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald Wykoff of Pennsylvania and one sister, Mary Robbins of Bedford, who died one year ago to the day, Feb. 16, 2005.

Early in life, she worked at the Crane Depot, Hook's Drug Store and Wykoff Paint Store. She was a homemaker and for 35 years was an Avon Representative. She was a Christian and a member of the First Christian Church.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 20th, at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford, with Steve Scroggins and Travis Bailey officiating, and with a reading by Dudley Wykoff. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Mills – Wanda Kay Mills of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, February 16, 2006, at her residence. Born March 29, 1946, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Richard and Eula (Huff) Gehring. She married Richard E. Mills on May 16, 1975, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Natalie D. Shelton, of Bedford, IN; two stepchildren, W. Brad Mills, of Calabash, NC, and Stephanie Meier, of Greenwood, IN; three step-grandchildren, Marissa Mills-Clark and Jared Clark, both of Bedford, IN, and Emily Meier, of Greenwood, IN; three sisters: Caroline Holmes, of Columbus, IN, Myra Allen, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Evelyn Gratzer, of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jackie Edward Gehring.

She formerly served as Security Supervisor at GM Powertrain in Bedford and was the owner/operator of Suntana Tanning Center in Bedford. She was a 1964 graduate of Bedford High School and a member of Hillcrest Christian Church.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Charlie Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phi Beta Psi Sorority for Cancer Research, Lawrence County Patient Services or the White River Humane Society.

Johnson – Lucille K. Johnson of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 13, 2006, at Core Nursing Home in Bedford. Born September 28, 1922, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Carl and Ruth E. (Stultz) Hartman. She married Leonard C. Johnson on February 8, 1946, and he died October 11, 1990.

Surviving are two grandchildren who were raised in the Johnson home, Lydia K. Sanders of Springville, IN, and Susanna Goss of Bedford, IN; three great-grandchildren, Josiah Peters, Amanda and Samantha Sanders; one brother, William Hartman of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Linda K. Johnson.

She was a graduate of Needmore High School and the Bloomington Hospital School of Nursing. She was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Nursing Corps. She retired as a nurse for Central Foundry, Dunn Memorial Hospital and was formerly the Health Nurse for Lawrence County. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 17th, at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church with Mark Fish officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 1:00 pm until the service time on Friday at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

Matlock – Phillip “David” Matlock of Evansville, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 13, 2006, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Born on June 6, 1940, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Hershel “Doc” Matlock and Jewell (Humphrey) Beasley. He married Becky Storch in 1999 in Munising, Mich., and she survives.

Surviving with the wife are three daughters: Missy Brooks of Kalamazoo, MI, Megan Matlock of Florida, and Chelesa Sirtola of Bedford, IN; one stepdaughter, Lorie Nichols of Bedford, IN; three stepsons: Bobby Storch and Jermey Storch, both of Trenary, MI, and Larry Dick of Bedford, IN; one brother, Jim Beasley and wife Teresa of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Sharon Mitchell and her husband James of Bedford, IN; grandchildren: Zachary Sirtola, Paige Brooks, Lydia Brooks, Dakota Storch, Jodie Fortney and Aaron Hodges. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Theodore Beasley; and one daughter, Rachel Ann Matlock.

He retired from Tilford Mine Co. (Iron/Ore) in Michigan in 2003.He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Mitchell American Legion.

Rodman – Emma Louise Rodman of Bedford, IN, died Monday, February 13, 2006, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born January 16, 1917, in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of William Henry and Betty Louise (Cain) Jacobs. She married Robert Lee Rodman and he died on December 11, 1987.

Surviving are five sons: Robert J. Rodman and his wife, Frances, David E. Rodman and his wife, Cecilia, and Carl A. Rodman and his wife, Diana, all of Louisville, KY, James Lee Rodman and his wife, Mary Helen, of Florida, Edward J. Rodman and his wife, Sherry, of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Betty Louise Cascone and her husband, John, of Florida, Carol Ann Thrasher and her husband, Marvin, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Horace Jacobs and his wife, Lois, of Louisville, KY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, one sister and three grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Crossroads Community Church in Bedford and formerly a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, February 17th at the Nunneley Funeral Home, 4327 Taylor Blvd., Louisville, KY. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, KY. Bond – Virginia M. Bond of Bedford, IN, died Feb. 12 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla. Born on June 22, 1923, in Dana, IN, she was the daughter of Earl and Espa Thompson. She married Marion “Eddie” Bond at the Central Church of Christ in Bedford on April 18, 1969, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons: Larry Bond and his wife, Fran, and Gary L. Bond and wife, Angela, all of Bedford, IN; two daughters: Sheila Davis and husband, Mike, of Bedford, IN, and Diana L. Phebus and husband, Ben, of Evansville, IN; nine grandchildren: Brandt Davis, Jace Davis, Maggie and Mollie Bond, Bret, Trent and Drew Phebus, and Codey and Hope Bond; and one brother, Karl Thompson, Lafayette, IN. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Max Thompson; one sister, Grace Kelley; one daughter in infancy and three grandsons.

She was the former owner and founder of Bedford Mobile Homes, Inc. in Bedford. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bedford, Eastern Star of Indianapolis, Bedford Boat & Sportsman Club and NASCAR Racing Wives Auxiliary.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford. Entombment will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Hendricks – Cecil Hendricks, Jr., of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 12, 2006 at his residence. Born November 15, 1927, in Arlington, IN, he was the son of Cecil and Rae (Parker) Hendricks. He married Barbara Cutsinger. He later married Betty Ramsey McKinney.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Hendricks Wiggins of Columbus, IN; three sons: James Hendricks and his wife, Rhonda and David Hendricks all of Bloomfield, IN, Steven Hendricks of Muncie, IN; three sisters: Dorothy Marsolek and Helen Buscomb, both of Tucson, AZ, and Mabel Norton and her husband, Lynn, of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren, Jayme Fleetwood and her husband, Jo Bill, of Bloomfield, IN, and Charles Hendricks and his fiancé, Cassi Fields of Bloomfield, IN; one great-grandchild, Madison Fleetwood; two step-great-grandchildren, Kole Fleetwood and Shaylin Fields; two foster sisters, Doris Lovato and her husband, Lou, and Betty Phipps, all of Bloomington, IN; his best friend, Thelma McPike of Bedford, IN; his beloved companion and caregiver, Janice Wheeler, and her sons, Derrick Wheeler of Bedford, IN, and Joseph Wheeler and family of Guam and Japan; her daughter, Tia Wheeler of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; Barbara Cutsinger Hendricks, the mother of his children; his wife, Betty, in 2002; one sister, Lydia Evelyn Hendricks; and one brother, Herbert Hendricks.

He was a set up operator at G.E. in Bloomington for twenty-two years. He was a member of the Judah Church of Christ, American Bowling Congress, Club 55 and the Senior Bowling League.

Schultz – Vernon Schultz of Bedford, IN, died on Sunday, February 12, 2006. Born March 9, 1966, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Roger and Sue (Box) Schultz. He was an off-bearer at Elliott Stone Mill and a tree trimmer.

Surviving are his parents; his ex-wife, Suzie Schultz of Bedford, IN; two sons, Vernon Roger and Travis Shane Schultz, both of Bedford, IN; one step-daughter, Debbie Stewart of Bedford, IN; three step-grandchildren: Billy Charles Williams, Alisha Dawn Stewart and Kassi Lee Stewart; three sisters: Pennie Reynolds and Teresa Schultz, both of Bedford, IN, and Kim Phillips of Williams, IN; one brother, Bryan Schultz of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Vernon Staggs, Nina Staggs, Joseph Emerson Schultz, Winfred Box and Valorie Box.

Voorhies – Estel Lee "Frog" Voorhies of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Bloomington Hospital. Born December 10, 1945, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ernie and Clara (Reed) Voorhies. He married Susan Hetrick, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Estel L. "Junior" Hetrick of Mitchell, IN; one daughter,Casey Nicole Voorhies of Mitchell, IN; stepdaughters, Stacey Summers and husband, Joe, Leighton, of Alabama and Tracey Summers and husband, James, of Highland, IN; sisters: Juanita Bake of Oolitic, IN, Helen Kent and husband, Joe, and Margaret York and husband, Avon, all of Mitchell, IN, and Mary Baker and fiance, Wendell, of Scottsville, KY; brothers: George Voorhies and wife, Becky, of Albertsville, AL, Dale Voorhies and wife, Norma, of Merrillville, IN, and Orval Voorhies and wife, Yvette, of Lake Village, IN; grandchildren: Wesley Summers, Devin Summers, Rachel Gaskey, Kaylee Gaskey, and James Gaskey, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dexter Voorhies; and sister, Jane Schmidt, preceded her in death

He was formerly employed at Seeburgers Block Factory in Gary, Indiana, and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Pace – Virginia Mae Pace, 90, 192143 Plaza Drive, Bedford, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born June 4, 1915, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Bernie and Molly (Chaney) Ritchison. She married Roy Emory Pace in Bedford, and he died Oct. 22, 1985.

Surviving are four daughters: Donna (Mitchell) Stanton of Bedford, IN, Sharon (Mitchell) Clayton of Benton, IL, Janice (Allen) Vaughn of Lyons, IN, and Phyllis (Pace) Leffler of Columbus, IN; one step-daughter, Christina (Pace) Jamison of Bedford, IN; one sister, Wilma Hatfield of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister; four brothers; and one step-daughter.

She had worked as a cook at Crane Naval Depot. She was a member of Dive Christian Church.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, February 13th, at Cresthaven Funeral Home, Bedford. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Priddy – Garland B. (Mike) Priddy of Owensburg, IN, died Friday, February 10, 2006, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 27, 1918, in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of Tom and Mae (Gastineau) Priddy. He married Virginia Harger on March 18, 1944 and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son: Mike Priddy and his wife, Sabine of Owensburg, IN; three grandchildren: Michael, Jennifer and Kimberly Priddy; two great-grandchildren: Aaliyah and Nickeless Priddy; one sister-in-law: Norma Harger of Owensburg, IN; one brother: Merlin Priddy of Florida. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

He retired from Crane where he worked for the supply department. He was a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW of Crane. He was a veteran of U.S. Army serving in the North African Invasion and the Invasion of Germany.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 14th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Merla Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Owensburg Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Andis – Ray A. Andis of Springville,IN, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at his residence. Born September 5, 1920, in Monroe County, IN, he was the son of Opher and Rosie (McFarland) Andis. He married Geneva Blake on Nov. 15, 1941, and she died on Jan. 27, 2004.

Surviving are one son, Jerry Andis of Bedford, IN; three daughters: Sandy Westerman and Sue George, both of Bedford, IN, and Denise Salmon of Springville, IN; 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Roy Andis and John Andis, both of Springville, IN, and Jessie Andis of Paoli, IN; and two sisters, Gladys Blake of Springville, IN, and Martha Sue Howard, Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Larry and Hubert Andis; two brothers, Curtis and Earl Andis, and one grandson, Joshua Poole.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a trustee board member of Trinity Family Worship Center in Bedford and a lifetime member of V.F.W. No. 8302 in Paoli.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Trinity Family Worship Center, 3604 Washington Ave., Bedford. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Saturday at the Cresthaven Funeral Home in Bedford. Eckman – Richard Raymond Eckman, DVM of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at his residence. Born Sept. 21, 1917, in Jackson, MI, he was the son of Harold Raymond Eckman and Eva (Crall) Eckman. He married Elizabeth Creech in 1942 at Elkhart, IN, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife of 62 years are two daughters, Susan Ruth Pickens and husband Dave of Columbus, IN, and Mariane Kay Buker and husband Jan of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Kirsten Sue Venhaus, Sarah Rae Pickens and Daniel Hilton Buker; and one great-grandchild, Isabelle Lee Buker. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Preston Eckman, and daughter Marjorie Christine Eckman.

He was retired from the State of Indiana as a Veterinarian and Epidemiologist. He was a 1941 graduate of Michigan State University as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and practiced Veterinary Medicine in Cedar Spring, MI, before coming to Bedford in 1952. He was a long-time member and Past Commander of the Salt Creek Power Squadron. He taught several courses in Seamanship and Navigation and was honored by the United States Power Squadron in 1990, receiving the Charles F. Chapman Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was Teacher of the Year of District 24, United States Power Squadron. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Tillette – Lana Kaye Tillette of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, February 9, 2006. Born August 18, 1966, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Bert Everette and Linda Faye (Cooney) Mounce I. She married Steven Wayne Tillette I on December 31, 1989, and he survives.

Surviving are with her husband are one son, Steven Wayne Tillette II, at home; two daughters, Kayla Rochelle Tillette and Sara Marie Tillette, both of Mitchell, IN; her parents, Bert and Linda Mounce I, of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Bert Everette Mounce II, of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Laura Lynn Benham, of Bedford, IN; and her grandmother, Ruby Mesarosh, of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by grandparents: Wilbur H. Cooney, and Greenie and Ruby Mounce; and father-in-law, Norman Tillette.

Hilgeman – Virginia K. Hilgeman of Jasper, IN, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at St. Charles Health Campus, Jasper. Born September 21, 1923, in Milltown, IN, she was the daughter of Roscoe V. and Agnes (Hoffman) Byrum. She married Elmer F. Hilgeman, Jr. August 5, 1945, and he died December 10, 2004.

Surviving are one daughter, Judith Ann Yarbrough, of Jasper, IN; one son, Dennis F. Hilgeman, of Lawrenceburg, IN; sisters, Violet R. Funk of Sellersburg, IN, Mary Jane Taylor of New Albany, IN, and Doris M. Sieg of Ramsey, IN; grandchildren: Stephen Hilgeman, Scott Yarbrough, and Keri Yarbrough great-grandchildren: Emma, Olivia, Josie. She was preceded in death by her husband

She retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center–Crane, graduated from Milltown High Shcool in 1941, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mitchell..

Brown – Charles W. “Bud” Brown of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at his residence. Born on December 20, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Thomas A. Brown and Zetta M. (Curts) Brown. He married Karen Joy Mills on November 23, 1955, and she survives. is preceded in death by his mother, father and one brother Thomas Robert.

Surviving with his wife of 50 years are one daughter, Cheryl Lea Edwards and husband, Vernon Edwards; two sons, Charles Douglas Brown and Robert Kyle Brown and wife, Amy Lee (Moore)Brown; six grandchildren: Tiffany (Edwards) Kimbley and husband Kris Kimbley, Brittany Edwards, Chad Brown, Hailey Brown, Kyndall Brown and Klayton Brown; one great-grandson, Keaton Kimbley; two sisters, Georgia Roberts of Solsberry, IN, and Jane Sowders of Bedford, IN; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Robert.

A 1954 graduate of Fayetteville High School in 1954 and a U.S. Army veteran, he worked at Crane, retiring with 31 years of civil service. He was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church, American Legion Post #33 and a past member of the Otis Park Men’s Club.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 9th, at the Fayetteville Baptist Church with Pastor Kenny Walden officiating. Duncan – Mildred Riggs Duncan of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital in Bloomington. Born March 2, 1917, in Hoopston, IL, she was the daughter of Jesse and Mary Jane (Reeves) Riggs. She married Leo Duncan on Sept. 15, 1938, at Indianapolis, and he died on April 7, 1992.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Campbell and her husband Jeffrey of Bedford, IN; two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son in infancy; four brothers and two sisters.

She worked at NWSC Crane during World War II and later for Thompson's Dairy Co. in Bedford, from which she retired in 1960. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, former member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Dunn Memorial Hospital, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Lawrence County Heart Association, VFW Women's Auxiliary and American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9th, at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Mesler – Wahneta Mesler of Haslett, MI, formerly of Huron and Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Alterra Clare Bridge, in Haslett, MI. Born August 17, 1914, in Huron, IN, she was the daughter of Howard and Dora (Dorsett) Terry. She married Mark Mesler September, 1936, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons: Fred Mesler of East Lansing, MI, Mike Mesler of California, and Mark Baker of Texas; one sister, Jeanette Snow, of Mitchell, IN; 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Charles H. and Warren Paul Terry; and sister, Jerri Humes.

She was a homemaker and attended Trinity Church in Lansing, MI.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8th, at Chastain Funeral Home. Burial will be in Huron Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Vandal – Bobby R. Vandal, Sr., of Indianapolis, IN, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Born on October 3, 1939 in Charleston, WV, he was the son of Hoy Vandal and Rachael (Carpenter) Vandal.

Surviving is his wife of Indianapolis, IN; four sons: David Vandal of Medina, OH; Bobby R. Vandal Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; Charles V. Vandal of Medina, OH and Michael D. Vandal of Medina, OH; one brother: Howard Vandal of Cleveland, OH; three sisters: Wanda Hill of Cleveland, OH; Dorothy Koss of Southfield, MI; Opal Cummings of Charleston, WV; grandchildren: Joshua, Derek, Shena, Kierra, David, Scott, John, Loretta, Tony, Victoria, Justin, Brandon, Alexa, Katelyn, Samantha and Dylan and one great-grandchild: Devin M. Vandal. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Vernon and Eugene Vandal.

He was a U.A.W. Mechanic. He married Joyce (Stannard) and they have been together for forty-one years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 7th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with David Vandal officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service.
