Houchin – Allen Jay Houchin, son of Callie Hatfield and Jason Houchin, was stillborn at 6:34 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Surviving: parents, Callie Hatfield and Jason Houchin, Mitchell, IN; grandparents, Eddie and Phyllis Hatfield, Dean and Debbie Smith, and Conrad Houchin, all of Mitchell, IN; great grandparents, Fred and Maxine Sullivan of Bedford, IN, William and Dorothy Conley of Vevay, IN, and June Hatfield of Bedford, IN.

Johnson – Keanna Lane Johnson, infant daughter of Lewis and Connie (Felton) Johnson, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Bedford, IN. She was born June 10, 2004 in Monroe County, IN.

Surviving are her parents of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Latosha, Shayla, and Sabrinalle Johnson, all at home; two brothers, Aaron and Dylan Johnson, at home; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Phillis Felton; paternal grandparents, Danny and Janet Bishop; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister, Destinee Elaine Johnson, and her namesake and godfather, Jeff Lane.

Services for Keanna Johnson will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Owensburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Hunter – Everett L. Hunter of Norman, IN, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Bloomington Hospital. He was born on June 25, 1933. He married Willabelle E. Brim and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughter, Darlene Atchison and Sharlene Smith, both of Norman, IN; and two sisters, Waneta Holland of Springville, IN, and Evelyn Dodds of Arcadia, FL.

He was a retired farmer, a former Lawrence County commissioner, and an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Services for Everett Hunter will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 29th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Mundell Christian Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Robertson – Robert Lloyd Robinson of Switz City, IN, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, in the Greene County Hospital. Born on October 12, 1942, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Joseph Forrest Robinson and Helen Lorraine (McGriffin) Robinson. He married Gail Ann Hollowell on September 11, 1971 in Bedford, IN, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Lyssa Jo Pferrer of Lyons, IN; one brother, Thomas B. Robinson of Puyallup, WA; and five grandchildren: Ann Marie, William Robert, Patricia Lorraine, Joseph Richard, and Christina Joy. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a retired school bus driver and an Air Force veteran. He was member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as an Elder in the church.

Services for Robert Robinson will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 30th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Jerome Gootee officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Abel – Summer Abel of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, June 25, 2004, in Columbus, IN. Born on May 14, 1977, she was the daughter of Ricky Dale and Susan Lynn (Watterson) King.

Surviving are one son, Dakota King of English, IN; her mother and step-father, Susan and Steve King of English, IN; grandparents: James and Sharon Watterson of Mitchell, IN, Joan Abel of Mitchell, step-grandmother, Emma Jean King of English, IN, great-grandparents Oren Brown of Salem, IN, and JGeorge and Vivian Watterson of Mitchell, IN. Her father preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ.

There will graveside services for Summer Abel at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 29th, at the Mitchell Cemetery with Bro. Allen Burris officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Chastain Funeral Home.

Cave – Carrie Lucille Cave, of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Westview Manor. Born on June 24, 1922, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Roy and Ethel (Hicks) White. She married Gordon Spears, and he preceded her in death. She later married Joe Cave and he also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Anna Marie Bruhy and her husband, Fred, of Springville, IN; one son-in-law, Don Condon; two grandchildren, Jared Robert Condon and his fiance, Tara Terrell, and Ashley Carajean Condon and her companion, Jason Baker; four great-grandchildren: David, Quentin, Annabelle, and Gabriel. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.

She was a beautician, a 4-H leader and a Rainbow Mom. She was a member of the Oolitic Methodist Church, Solsberry Order of the Eastern Star #54, and Naomi and Rebekkah Lodge #91

Services for Carrie Cave will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the Oolitic Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Voorhies officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Stapp – Mary Stapp of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on October 31, 1928, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Palmer E. and Hattie (Rhue) Hodges.

Surviving are two daughters, April Collins of Bedford, IN, and Kim Vest and her husband, Michael, of Bloomfield, IN; one son, Jim Stapp and his wife, Deborah, of Indianapolis; one brother, Kenneth Hodges of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren: Allison Stapp, Kyle Collins, Stevie Collins, Jeremy Vest, and Stacy Lowry and her husband, Chad; two great-grandchildren, Gage and Gracie Lowry, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Bridwell; and two brothers, Eugene and Charles Hodges.

She was employed in the Lawrence County Court House for 45 years. She was first elected in 1979 as the County Assessor, served in various assessing positions within the Courthouse, and was currently the Deputy County Assessor. She was a member of the Community Baptist Fellowship, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Women's Republican Club.

Services for Mary Stapp will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 28th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Jon Lineback officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Cummings – Joseph Cummings of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on January 4, 1928, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Roy and Ethel (Easton) Cummings. He married Esther Lucille Roach on December 9, 1950, and she died December 30, 2003.

Surviving are one son, Gerald Cummings of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Alice Striegel of Bloomington, IN, and Ethel Hardin and her husband, Kevin, of Bedford, IN; three brothers: Gene Cummings of Indianapolis, Leroy Cummings of Bedford, IN, and Larry Cummings of Oolitic, IN; two grandson, Joseph and Charles Hardin; two granddaughters, Adria Matlock and Andria Harmon; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, Otis Cummings; one sister, Marie Pickett; and one great-grandson, Kory Ingle.

He retired from GM Central Foundry. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #440 and the Gulletts Creek Baptist Church.

Services for Joseph Cummings will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 28th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Lewis Williams officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Mundy – Minda Mundy of Huron, IN, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on March 14, 1910, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Isaac and Nancy C. (Edwards) Johnson. She married Lester H. Mundy on February 14, 1927, and he died December 4, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters, Berndette J. Smith of Mitchell, IN, and Geneva Montgomery of Huron, IN; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Edmund R. Mundy; one daughter, Imogene Palmer; five sisters: Georgia Johnson, Annie Johnson, Nannie Byers, Maybelle Mundy, and Pearl Burton; five brothers: George, Harris, Claude, Fay, and Clyde Johnson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Gabrella Renee Mundy.

She was a matron at the Lawrence County Courthouse, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Huron Church of God.

Services for Minda Mundy will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 28, at Chastain Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Smooth and Paul Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Port William Cemetery. Banks – LaVonda K. (Tackett) Banks of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 15, 1942, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Marvin Dean and Goldie Elaine (Lewis) Tackett. She married James R. Banks on September 24, 1957, and he died December 1, 2001.

Surviving are one son, Jimmy Banks and his wife, Deana, of Bedford, IN; four daughters: Teresa Lewis and her husband, Dave, of Bloomington, IN, Lisa Couch and her husband, Greg, Tracy Owens and Linda Roll and her husband, Ron, all of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Don Tackett and his wife, Ruth, and DeanTackett and his wife, Bev, all of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren, Heather, Fox, Haley Franklin, Mathew Couch, Morgan Haley, Sarah Lewis, J.R. Banks, and Riley Banks. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother in infancy.

She was a certified nurses assistant in area nursing homes a a member of the auxiliary of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman's Club.

Services for LaVonda Banks will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with a private committal conducted at a later date. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Corwin – Rose L. Corwin of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Salem, IN, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 29, 1921, in Madison County, KY, she was the daughter of John and Nanny (Bellis) Hampton.

Surviving are one son, Richard G. Corwin, Jr. of Terre Haute, IN; her former husband, Richard C. Corwin, Sr. of Salem, IN; one brother, Jim Hampton of Kelseyville, CA; two sisters, Helen Napier of Austin, IN, and Clara Woods of Seymour, IN; two grandsons, Garlan Caudill of Springfield, KY, and Anthony Lee Caudill of Camner, KY; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Diane Caudill, and one sister, Mary Corneilson.

She was a homemaker.

There will be graveside services for Rose Corwin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 23rd, at Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Tyree – Frances L. Tyree of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at her residence. Born on January 23, 1922, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of August Carl and Minnie Louise (Frazier) Baker. She married Robert John Tyree, and he died March 8, 1971.

Surviving are five daughters: Janet Connell and her husband, Sid, or Brownstown, IN, Linda Pennington and her husband, Ned, of Terre Haute, IN, Kay Leinart and her husband, Jim, or Seymour, IN, Judith Parr and her husband, Rick, of Seymour, IN, and Jill Kluender and her husband, Andy, of Mitchell, IN; four sons: Mike Tyree and his wife, Elane, of Grandview, IN, John Tyree and his wife, Debbie, of Orleans, Greg Tyree and his wife, Tina, of Mitchell, IN, and Jeff Tyree of Mitchell, IN; fifteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Lena Jones and Betty Jeanne Baker; and three brothers: Carl, Ed, and August Baker.

She retired from Burris School as a reading tutor, a graduate of Bedford High School, and an active member of the First Christian Church.

Services form Frances Tyree will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 23rd, at the First Christian Church with Bro. Josh Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Bailey – Dennis R. Bailey of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 13, 2004, at the Bloomington Hospital. Born on June 30, 1955, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William and Gladys (Whitted) Bailey. He married Susie Fish on September 18, 1976, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are his father of Heltonville, his mother-in-law, Themla Breedlove of Norman, IN; two sons, Jason Bailey and his wife, Wendy, of Bedford, IN, and Jared Bailey at home; two brother, Duane Bailey and his wife, Dana, of Bedford, IN, and Roger Bailey and his wife, Annette, of Heltonville, IN; six sisters: Shana Hobson of Bedford, IN, Rita Gray and her husband, Raymond of Vallonia, IN, Ingrid Ann Hornback and her husband, Arvel, of Greenwood, IN, Marian Bartlett and her husband, Joe of Heltonville, IN, Marilyn Grissom of Florida, and Verla Norman and her hsuband, Don, of Brownstown; sister-in-law, Joan Bailey of Bedford; brother-in-law, David Fish and his wife, Donna of Bedford; sister-in-law, Kay Fish of Springville; nieces and nephews, Terry Bailey, Carla Bailey, B.D. Bailey, April Leatherbury, Robin Bailey, Teresa Dorsey, Mark Norman, Jeff Grissom, Jana Chain, Jodie Bartlett, Tim Bartlett, Jim Wooten, Michael Bailey, Amy Huff, Carie Robbins, Melissa Day, Brian Gray, Tracy Bailey, Julie Bex, Nathan Bailey, Lindsee Martinez, Amber Hobson, Justin Hobson, Kortni Fish, Darin Fish, Sharon Montgomery, Linda Pool, Clint Fish, Christy Seville, Tammy Martindale and Tonya Bunch; several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys; three brothers, Carl, Ronnie and Lester Bailey and two brother-in-laws, Ronn and Alfred Fish.

He was self-employed and owned Dennis Bailey Trucking Co., and formerly owned Dennis Bailey Lumber Co. He was a member of the Mundell Christian Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 21st at the Mundell Christian Church with Rev. John Wisley and Tracy Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Mundell Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Monday, June 21st at the Mundell Christian Church.

Kimbley – John V. Kimbley of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on May 3, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Henry Trues and Hazel (McKnight) Kimbley. He married Judith Wray on January 29, 1938, and she died September 12, 1988. He married Mildred Long on May 26, 1992, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Larry V. Kimbley and his wife, Janet, and Michael W. Kimbley and his wife, Dee, all of Bedford, IN; one brother, Walter Kimbley of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Betty Wilcox and Martha Childers, both of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren: James D. Kimbley of Semour, IN, Deborah D. Hemmelgarn of Scottsburg, IN, John M. Kimbley of the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in NC, and Kristopher W. Kimbley of Bedford, IN; and five great-grandchildren: Lindsay Mullins of Jeffersonville, IN, Jena Hemmelgarn and Victoria Mullins, both of Scottsburg,IN, and Joseph and Megan Kimbley, both of Seymour, IN. He was preceded in death by his first wife and one brother, Jesse Jerold Kimbley.

He retired as a final inspector from GM Powertrain. He was a member of White River Baptist Church, U.A.W. Local No. 440, and Farm Bureau.

Services for John Kimbley will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Perry East officiating. Burial will follow in White River Baptist Cemetery in Buddha. Stanley – Elsie A. Stanley of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 30, 1924, in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of Paul and Rose (Schuessler) Klingenmeier. She married Milton E. Stanley on August 14, 1948, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, Stephen P. Stanley and his wife, Connie, and Greg Stanley and his wife, Rosemary, all of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren: Jesse Stanley and his wife, Marie, of Bedford, IN, Jay Stanley of Bozeman, MT, Jade Stanley, Diana Stanley and Arthur Stanley, all of Bedford, IN; and one great-grandchild, Ethan Stanley of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by one son and one daughter in infancy.

She was employed at Indiana Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1977 after 27 years of service. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a former member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Telephone Pioneers of America.

Services for Elsie Stanley will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19th, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernie Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by Sister Joan Leurman.

Morris – Maxwell C. Morris of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on June 26, 1931, in Burns City, IN, he was the son of Lester and Ave (Swayze) Morris. He married Geneva Blanton on April 10, 1954, in Paoli, IN, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Johnie Morris of Mitchell, IN; three daughters: Connie Morris Prunty, and Virginia Morris, both of Mitchell, IN, and Donna Morris of Paoli, IN; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

He had been employed at National Gypsum in Shoals, retiring in 1994 after 28 years of service. He attended the Church at Powell Valley and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 61 and P.A.C.E. Union Local No. 354, both of Shoals, and V.F.W. Post No. 9107 of Mitchell.

Services for Maxwell Morris will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17th, at the Queen-lee Funeral Home with Brother Randy Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery in Martin County. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Norkus – Cecile Norkus of Bedford, IN, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Stonebridge Health Campus. She was born on May 4, 1920.

Surviving are two daughters, Pam Feiner of Fayetteville, IN, and Celeste Berlin of Naperville, IL; and two grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.

There will be a memorial service for Cecile Norkus at a later date in Chicago, IL. No calling hours are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Smires – Dorris R. Smires of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Bloomington Hospital. She was born September 22, 1922.

Surviving are three daughter: Gail Foster of Shippingsburg, PA, Paul Smith-Marlton of New Jersey, and Shirlann Harper of Bedford, IN; one sister, Shirley Cole of Pittsburgh, PA; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She had worked at American Honda in New Jersey and Casey's General Store in Oolitic.

Davis – Doris M. Davis of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Haverly Mortuary. Born on March 23, 1923, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Jessie and Lula (George) Richason. She married Beverly Davis on October 21, 1941, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are three sons: James Davis, Robert Davis, and Gary I. Davis, all of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Beverley Staggs of Bedford, IN, and La Rue Kathleen Seims of Washington, D.C.; one step-sister, Margaret Bledsoe of Indianapolis; one half-sister, Joan Goldsby of Indianapolis; two half-brothers, Earl and Donald Richason, both of Mitchell, IN; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a special cousin, Dolore Hadley of Mitchell, IN. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Dora Pearl Richason, in infancy.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Davidson – Karen D. Davidson of Bedford, IN, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at her residence. Born on April 8, 1951, she was the daughter of Spencer L. and Marie (Brown) Isom. She married William Davidson in 1969, and he survives.

Surviving with her husband are one son, Brandon Davidson of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Frances Webster and her husband, Max, of Grand Blank, MI, and Phyllis Turpin and her husband, Harvey, of Bedford, IN; and one brother, Spencer Isom, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Bedford, IN; five nieces Sherry Moore, Ginger Ratcliff, Jill Rogers and Shelly Blais, all of Bedford, IN, and Gail Williams of Lake Orion, MI; and three nephews, Jeff Turpin of Carlsbad, CA, Bryan Turpin of Westfield, IN, and Lt. Col. Bradley Webster of Norfolk, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wilbur Isom

She was retired from Visteon.

Ball – Richard E. Ball, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, formerly of Bedford, IN, died June 10, 2004. He was born on February 28, 1924. He married Elaine Methany in 1949, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are two daughter, Andrea Morgan and her husband, Bill, of Kent, OH, and Nancy Carmody and her husband, Joe, of Saukville, WI; one brother, Robert Ball of Interlochen, MI; four sisters: Dorothy Weeks of Veradale, WA, Mabel Ferris of Holiday, FL, Alberta Bowman of Plymouth, IN, and Patricia Smith of Granger, IN; five grandchildren: Carolyn Morgan, Evan Morgan and his wife, Nacole, and Gwen Morgan and Katie Carmody and Clay Carmody. He was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Ball; one sister, Helen Towse; and one granddaughter, Clare Elizabeth Carmody.

He was employed at Superior Parts and retired in 1987. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater during WW II. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Bedford and the Elks Lodge.

Todd – Laverne (Norman) Todd of Heltonville, IN, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the Stonebridge Health Campus. Born on August 3, 1909, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Walter F. and Dessie (Sowder) Norman. She married Ralph N. Todd on June 30, 1928, and he died April 17, 1993.

Surviving are three daughters: Rosemary Manzenberger and her husband, Frank, of Oolitic, IN, Barbara Bundy and Ruth Ballantyne and her husband, Robert, all of Bedford, IN; three sons: Bill Todd and his wife, Rowena, of Heltonville, IN, John Todd and his wife, Sue, of Ringwold, GA, and Jerry Todd and his wife, Norma of Anderson, IN; one brother, Ermil Norman and his wife, Lola, of Bedford, IN; grandchildren: Greg Todd, Andrea Todd Cavins, Lynn D. Manzenberger, Shelley Manzenberger Fox, Donald E. Manzenberger, Bobbi Bundy Nardi, Becky Bundy, Jeffrey Bundy, Kathy Turpen Hamilton, Monica Turpen, Marty Turpen, Bridgett Turpen Kern, Monte Todd, Brent Todd, Cindy Todd Warner, Brian Todd, Sally Todd, and Michael Todd; great-grandchildren: Todd Cavins, Derek Cavins, John D. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Heltonville Christian Church.

Johnson – Harold Johnson of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the Hospitality House. Born on August 29, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Vearl and Flossie (Robertson) Johnson. He married Juanita Martin and she died in 1996.

Surviving are one son, Steven Johnson of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Donna Sue Johnson of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Jonathon Johnson Smythe and Mistee Nichols; four great-grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law, Conette Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Mike Johnson; three brothers; Gerald, Wayne, and JDale Johnson; and one sister, Sharon Rose.

He was a retired maintenance worker at the Hauck House in Bedford and had been employed as a quarry worker at Indiana Limestone Co. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #14 F&AM.

There will be graveside services for Harold Johnson at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 11th, at the Judah Cemetery with the Rev. Ted Blaker officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Moutardier – Laymon O'Neal Moutardier of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at his residence. Born on October 14, 1924, in Aneta, KY, he was the son of Louis and Nancy Moutardier. He married Margaret Williams on January 5, 1946, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife of 58 years are six daughters: Patsy Craig and her husband, Albert, Judy Cooper, Sherry Todd and her husband, Larry, Dolly Blackburn and her husband, Jeff, Nancy Meadows and her husband, Tevin, Tammie Cook and her husband, Craig; one son, Rick Moutardier and his wife, Ellen; two sisters, Pauline Simmons and Delores Cook of Kentucky; eighteen grandchildren: Valerie Umphress, Rhea Jackson, Katie Craig, Darren Cooper, Lacie McFadden, Chris Todd, Jamie Todd, Corey Blackburn, Emily Blackburn, Jessica Johnson, Jaylyn Meadows, Jesse Cook, Taylor Cook, Carey Cook, Thomas Cook, Ryan Moutardier, Curt Moutardier, and Kent Moutardier; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five siblings.

He volunteered for the military at the age of 17 and served in the Navy during WW II. He was a member of the Old Union Christian Church.

Services for Laymon Moutardier will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Andy Hudelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday, and from noon until the service time Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Stultz – Virn A. Stultz of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at his residence. Born on March 3, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Gusta and Anna (Deckard) Stultz. He married Betty Stultz on August 5, 1940, and she died on March 8, 1999.

Surviving are one son, Steve Stultz and his wife, Carol; two daughters, Sharon Stevens and her husband, Jim, and Melinda Brooking and her husband, Phil, all of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren: Greg Stevens, Phillip Brooking, Polly Lintz, Jenny Hunter, Michael Stultz, Courtney Sullivan, and Patrick Stultz; eight great-grandchildren: Hannah Stevens, Dylan Stevens, Jessica Downham, Peyton Brooking, B.J. Lintz, Corrie Lintz, Matthew Hunter, and Emma Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, Bill Stultz; two sisters, Gertrude Hawkins and Florence Rodler; and one grandson, Matthew Stevens.

He was a farmer and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

There will be graveside services for Virn Stultz at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11th, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Friends may call from 9-10:45 a.m. Friday at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Brooks – Samuel Brooks, Jr. of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on February 2, 1978, in York, PA, he was the son of Samuel and Donna (Whickholm) Brooks. He married Crystal Brazzel on February 14, 2002, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are three children: Kyla, Trevor, and Alexus Brooks, all at home; hiw father, Samuel Brooks of Florida; his mother, Donna Brooks of Bedford, IN; two brothers, David and Kenneth Brooks; and one sister, Emily Conley.

He was employed at Jay-C Plus Grocery Store in Bedford and attended the First Church of the Nazarene.

There will be graveside services for Samuel Brooks at noon Wednesday, June 9th, at Green Hill Cemetery with Mark Blake officiating. Friends may call from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Kinser – Harold Kinser of Smithville, IN, died Saturday, June 6, 2004, at White River Lodge. Born on February 21, 1925, in Monroe County, IN, he was the son of Edward and Clothea (Kinser) Kinser.

Surviving are one daughter, Andrea Flynn and her husband, Tim, of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Bernice Deckard of Bedford, IN; three grandsons: Eric Reid DeFord and his wife, Kathy, Ira Joseph DeFord, and Aaron Jacob Martin: three great-grandsons, Ross Alan DeFord, Dylan Reid DeFord, Jonathan Alec DeFord. Also surviving is his former wife, Velma L. Bagwell. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Fraun Renee Martin; one son, Randy Alan Kinser; and two brothers, Clovin Kinser and Pete Kinser.

He was a quarry worker for the Indiana Limestone and Victor quarries in Oolitic and was U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of the International Laborers Union Local 741.

Massey – Virginia Mae Massey of Bedford, IN, formerly of Columbus, IN, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 23, 1919, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Ona Franklin and Mary Wilma (Sharpe) Roberts. She married Herschel Massey on December 24, 1938, and he died on March 31, 1965.

Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Mowery of Columbus, IN; one sister, Ruth E. Moore of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, Kristi Jo and Mike Mowery, both of Columbus, IN; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brother, Harry and Jim Roberts; and two sisters, Viola Bunch and Betty Colburn.

She had been a waitress at Moon's Restaurant for 12 years and was a member of the Bethel Holiness Church in Columbus.

There will be graveside services for Virginia Massey at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 8th, at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford with the Rev. Leonard Sankey officiating. No calling hours are scheduled. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions to the Stone City Christian Academy of Bedford or to the Hospice of South Central Indiana in Bartholomew County.

Rutter – Fred Arthur Rutter of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Evansville, IN, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on September 18, 1920, in Cynthiana, IN, he was the son of John and Pearl (Williams) Rutter. He married Juanita Brown on September 8, 1944, and died August 18, 1999.

Surviving are one daughter, Leah K. Clinton of Mitchell, IN; two sons, David Lynn Rutter of Valparaiso, IN, and John Stephen Rutter of South Carolina; one sister, Lois Purdue of Albuquerque, NM; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Walter Rutter.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Society of Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.

Services for Fred Rutter will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 7th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Sister Joan Leurman officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the service time Monday at Chastain Funeral Home.

Christy – Hilda Irene Christy of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at her residence. Born October 22, 1916, in Washington, PA, she was the daughter of Morgan and Eula (Ashbrook) McClelland. She married Lloyd D. Christy on September 4, 1936, and he died May 16, 2001.

Surviving are one daughter, Beth Kacher and her husband, Gene, of Mitchell, IN; one son, Lloyd David Christy and his wife, Cathy, of Valparaiso, IN; two sisters, Mary Chipman of Arizona and Lennalee Hindman of Michigan; one brother, George McClelland of Arizona; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God in Silver Springs, FL.

Services for Hilda Christy will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 6th, at Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Pittman officiating. Burial will following Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. until the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Gabel – Verona E. Gabel of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette, IN. Born on May 18, 1922, in Princeton, WI, she was the daughter of Carl F. and Veronica (Miller) Otto. She married George P. Gabel on October 7, 1944, in Chicago, IL, and he died May 4, 2003.

Surviving are two sons, George Gabel, Jr. of Bedford, IN, and Michael Gabel of West Lafayette, IN; one brother, Melvin Otto of Princeton, WI; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Mariel Gabel; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Gertrude Draeger.

She was a homemaker.

Services for Verona Gabel will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 7th, at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until the service time Monday at the funeral home.
