Bell – Troy Edward Bell of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000. Born on November 7, 1968, is Bedford, IN, he was the son of Edward R. and Judy K. (Hurley) Bell. He married Misty Lynn Wiseman in 1987.
Surviving are three sons, Justin, Corey, and Tyler Bell, all of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Casey Bell of Mitchell, IN; his mother, Judy K. Hurley-Feaster of Bedford, IN; his father and step-mother, Edward R. and Karen Bell of Bedford, IN; three half-brothers, Larry Arnold, Roger and Eric Bell, all of Bedford, IN; one half-sister, Jame Newkirk of Bloomington, IN; his paternal grandmother, Lucille M. Bell of Bedford, IN; and his maternal grandfather, Coy Everet Hurley of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Norman Bell; his maternal grandmother, Norma Jane Hurley; and an uncle, John Hurley.
He was a construction worker and was a member of the Eagles and American Legion.
Services for Troy Bell will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 5th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Graham – Jerry D. Graham of Bedford, IN, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on May 10, 1945, he was the son of William and Ada Ruth (Howell) Graham.
Surviving are his companion, Linda Garland of Bedford, IN, his father, William Graham of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Bonnie Scherschel of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Jack Graham of Jeffersonville, IN; and one step-sister, Sharon McHargue of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, William A. Graham.
There will be graveside services for Jerry Graham at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 2nd, at the Mitchell Cemetery with the Rev. Dirus Dustin officiating. Friends may call from 6:30-8:30 Thursday at the Chastain Funeral Home.
Meadows – Thelma Meadows of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at the Hospitality House. Born on October 10, 1909, in Avoca, IN (Lawrence County), she was the daughter of Scenteny Boone and Lena (Sanders) Wilson. She married Earvin "Doc" Meadows on April 17, 1937, and he died April 25, 1981.
Surviving are one brother, Kenneth Wilson of Indian Harbor Beach, FL; and several nephews and nieces, including Revajane Lewis of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
She was retired, having worked at the Times-Mail and Hamilton-Harris. She was a graduate of Bedford High School and a member of Hillcrest Christian Church and the AARP.
There will a graveside service for Thelma Meadows at 2:00 p.m. on October 7, 2000, at Green Hill Cemetery. The body was cremated. Services are under the direction of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Freeman – Leroy Freeman of Bedford, IN, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on February 25, 1937, he was the son of Perry and Sadie (Wortinger) Freeman. He married Bonnie J. Clements, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Tonya Freeman of Bedford, IN; one son, Barry Freemen of Evansville, IN; one sister, Bonnetta Kearby of Indianapolis; one granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Delores Bayer.
He retired in 1999 from General Motors Powertrain and was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church.
Services for Leroy Freeman will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Hardwick – Amanda Kay Hardwick of Bedford, IN, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at the Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 30, 1980, in Paoli, IN, she was the daughter of Tom and Elizabeth (Pitts) Hardwick.
Surviving are her father, Tom Hardwick of Orleans, IN, her mother, Elizabeth Wessell of Houston, TX; her adoptive mother, Shelly Stalker Hardwick; one sister, Sammi Jo Serano of Houston, TX; two half-sisters, Mary and Heather Everett of Dayton, OH; one daughter, Amaya Kay Hardwick-Morris of Bedford, IN, her fiance, Jay Morris of Bedford, IN; her paternal grandparents, Marvin and Marlene Hardwick of Bedford, IN; her maternal grandparents, Arthur Pitts of Bedford, IN, and Zena Cuellar of Texas; and several uncles and cousins.
She worked in the office of PDQ Rental and was a 1999 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was a member of the 39th Street Christian Church in Bedford.

Ikerd – Eva Mae Ikerd of Bedford, IN, died at her residence. The exact date is unknown. Born on August 26, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Edward A. and Alma Pearl (Donn) Fish. She married Charles "Bud" Ikerd, and he died in 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara E. Dixon of Mitchell, IN, and Reva A. Hudson of Bedford, IN; one son, Roger Dale Ikerd of Bedford, IN; one sister, Ruth Morris of Sellersburg, IN; five grandchildren: Dee Wykoff, Lee Ikerd, Heather Bates, Aaron Dixon, and Corey Ikerd; one great-grandson, Robert Charles Wykoff; and several nieces and nephews.
She had worked at RCA in Bloomington and was valedictorian of her graduating class at Needmore High School. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, the John Wallace Chapter of the D.A.R. and a former member of the Lawrence County Historical Society.

Lewis – Russell Lewis of Bedford, IN, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on June 29, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of William Ermal and Ida Mae (Tumey) Lewis. He married Juanita Jackson, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Lou Harries and Wynona Sue Goodman, both of Bedford, IN. He was preceded iin death by one son, Billy Lewis, in infancy.
He was a retired stockman for Mills Market and was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church.

Baker – Alva H. Baker of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 9, 1909, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Morton Mils and Jennie (Luttrell) Baker. He married Maxine Alice Elmore in 1958, and she died in 1988.
Surviving are one daughter, Debra Ann Baker of Bedford, IN; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray E. and Jess Baker; and five sisters: Mabel, Mayme, Besse, Maude, and Lillian.
He was a self-employed plumber and was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church.

Cobb – Phyllis A. Cobb of Needmore, IN, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at her residence. Born on Cecember 6, 1934, in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of Harley E. and Delphia Louise (Kirk) Sparks. She married Stanley Cobb in 1956, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Douglas Cobb of Avoca, IN, and Michael Cobb of Spencer, IN; two brothers, Raymond Sparks of Solsberry, IN, and Wendell Sparks of Linton, IN; three sisters: Betty Emery of Bloomfield, IN, Alice Burcham of Bedford, IN, and Janice Winkler of Spencer, IN; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Smoot – Ora Alice Smoot of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at her residence. Born on August 29k 1923, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Frank and Myrtie (Henderson) Benefiel. She married Roy Smoot, and he died in 1989.
Surviving are one son, Gary Smoot of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Nancy Fleetwood of Mitchell, IN, and Myra Arnold of Merritt Island, FL; two brothers, Thomas Benefiel of Indianapolis and Cecil Benefiel of Muncie, IN; one sister, Cordelia Gonce of Utah; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, one aunt, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sue Jo Smoot in 1955, and two sisters in infancy.

Stewart – Bernice G. Stewart of Bedford, IN, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at her residence. Born on September 16, 1904, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Everett and Epsia (Diehl) Watson. She married Delbert Stewart and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Larry M. Stewart of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Stultz; one sister, Louise Maddox; one brother in infancy, Diehl Watson.
She and her husband founded Stone City Construction Company. She was an 83-year member of Gullets Creek Baptist Church.

Furbee – Tim Furbee of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Born on January 25, 1953, in East Liverpool, OH, he was the son of Delbert and Marilyn (Lutton) Furbee. He married Janice Beemblossom, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Scott and Jake Furbee of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Aubrey Furbee pf Mitchell, IN; his parents of Hammondsville, OH; one sister, Cindy Cooper of Toronto, OH; two brothers, Gene and Junior Furbee of Hammondsville, OH; and two grandsons.
He was the owner/operator of Heartland Outdoor Sport Shop in Mitchell and had worked as a CPA with the Kemper CPA Group in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of I.U. and a member of the Kiwanis Club.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with a brief memorial service immediately following for Tim Furbee. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the American Legion Post #33. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tim Furbee Family in care of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.
Tincher – Ronald Leonard Tincher, of Indianapolis, IN, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at his residence. Born on May 2, 1936, he was the son of Leonard and Elsie Tincher.
Surviving are his companion, Mila Goodlet, of Indianapolis, IN; two sons: Lenny Tincher, Jr. and Scott Tincher, both of Indianapolis; three brothers: Chester Tincher, of Bedford, Larry Tincher, of Guthrie, IN, and Marion Tincher, of Avoca, IN; his father, Leonard Tincher, of Avoca, IN; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis.

Torrence – Bonnie Ellen Torrence of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at her residence. Born on November 10, 1954, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William H. and Rosella (Lawrence) Duncan. She married William L. Archer, Sr. and he died in 1980. She married Larry Torrence in 1984, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William L. Archer, Jr. of Bloomington, IN, and David Ray Archer of Middlebury, IN; her mother of Mitchell, IN; six brothers: Joe, Larry, Roger, Paul, and Tyler Duncan of Mitchell, IN, and Barney Duncan of Bloomington, IN; one half-brother, John Sanders of McKeesport, PA; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Salvation Army.

Gammon – Robert Lee Gammon, Sr., of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at his residence. Born on August 5, 1940, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Roman and Margaret Irene (Terrell) Gammon. He married Sue J. Baker on December 24, 1959, and she preceded him in death on May 4, 1999.
Surviving are two sons: Robert L. Gammon, Jr. and Donald B. Gammon, both of Mitchell; one daughter, Renaudia S. White, of Paoli; two brothers: Lester Gammon and Gerald Gammon, both of Shoals; one sister, Margaret Campbell, of Lexington, IN; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Wilma Stroud.
He was an employee of Dana Corporation and a 1958 graduate of Shoals High School. He was of Protestant faith and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Mahan – Virgil Mahan of Bedford, IN, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 14, 1909, in Sullivan, IN, he was the son of William and Margaret Mahan. He married Hazel Sipes Dalton, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sonya Kirk and Nancy Caussman, both of Buchanan, MI; two step-sons, Larry and Leonard Dalton, both of Bedford, IN; two step-daughters, Mona Nicholson and Linda Fisher, both of Bedford, IN; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, James Mahan; one daughter, Janet Sue Mahan; his first wife, Beulah Mahan; one step-son, Joseph Southern; and twelve brothers and sisters.
He retired from General Motors in Flint, MI. He was a member of the Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca, the UAW, the Bedford Horseshoe League, and the Bedford Senior Citizens.

Pridemore – Eva M. Pridemore of Bedford, IN, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at her residence. Born on August 12, 1918, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Albert and Mary (Wagner) Pruett. She married Ernest Pridemore in 1939, and he survives.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
She had been a beautician in the Bedford and North Vernon areas and was a graduate of Bedford High School. She was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church.
There will be a graveside service for Eva Pridemore at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 30th, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Rev. Charlie Scott and David Conley officiating. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements, but there will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Ray – Mary Jane Ray of Mitchell, IN died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on December 10, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William Claude and Lillie Mae (Hopkins) Ray. She married William Marvin Ray in 1933, and he died in February 1993.
Surviving are one son, James Arthur Ray of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Estel Marie Johnson of Mitchell, IN; one step-brother, Floyd "Tot" Terrell of Mitchell, IN; ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Connerly; one half-brother, Leland Elrod; one step-brother, Burl Roscoe Terrell; and two grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.

King – Mamie L. King of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 12, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Richard and Maude (Eisele) Flinn. She married Mike King, Jr. on February 3, 1961, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Randall H. King of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, John K. and Robert Flinn, both of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by he parents and three brother, Harvey, Charlie, and Clifford Flinn.
She retired from Dunn Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Pinhook Church of Christ.

Scott – Elizabeth Scott of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at her residence. Born on September 7, 1962, in El Salvador, she was the daughter of James L. and Joanna (Leath) Ruhlman. She married Phil Scott on June 16, 1990, and he survives.
Also surviving are her parents, James Ruhlman of Puerto Rico and Joanna Ruhlman of Attica, IN; one brother, Tom Ruhlman of Skaneateles, NY; one sister, Ann McCurdy of Wilton, CT; and five nieces and nephews.
She was a professional nanny. She was a 1982 graduate of Plymouth High School and a 1986 graduate of Vincennes University with an Associates Degree in Childcare. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Services for Elizabeth Scott will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20th, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating.. The committal service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20th, at Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington, IN. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Matuszewski – Frank Matuszewski of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 15, 1919, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of Andres and Viola (Bank) Matuszewski. He married Myrtle M. Cobb in 1957, and she survives.
Also surviving are one step-son, Robert Holt of Bedford,, IN; two step-daughters, Carolyn Terry of Bedford, IN, and Shirley Coulter of Worthington, IN; two sisters, Frances Bradford and Mary Wroblewski, both of Pittsburgh, PA; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters, and two grandchildren.
He retired from CAAA Crane and was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 of Bedford, the White River Humane Society ad the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Services for Frank Matuszewski will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 19th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Sister Joan Luerman officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Mausoleum with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33, Bedford.. Parker – Vicki Mae Parker of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at her residence. Born on April 12, 1952, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Jack and Joy Helen (Brock) Duncan. She married Michael Parker, Sr. on March 6, 1971, and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Michael, Jr., Larry, and Dustin Parker, all of Springville, IN; one daughter, Micah Parker of Springville, IN; her mother, Joy Duncan of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Edna Wright and Peggy Doane, both of Bedford, IN, and Cathy Turpen of Bloomington, IN; three grandchildren, one uncle, and several nieces, nephews, and aunts.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Englewood Baptist Church

Parham – Avahnelle C. Parham of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at her residence. Born on February 7, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Curtis and Myrtle (Richards) Craig.
Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Mitchell of Oolitic, IN; two grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was a retired nurse and nursing home administrator. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she was a past president. She was of Protestant faith.
There will be a graveside service for Avahnell Parham at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 17th, at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Woodward officiating. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation at the mortuary.
Ritchison – Donald G. Ritchison of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at his residence. Born on January 17, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ralph and Ruth (Vaught) Ritchison. He married Peggy Conley on August 4, 1956, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Rick, Dough, and Tim Ritchison, all of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Tina True and Lynette Batman, both of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Marjorie Simpson of Reddick. Taflinger – Maxine Taflinger of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at the Hospitality House. Born on May 18, 1921, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Andrew and Ruby Frances (Root) Houchin. She married Leo Taflinger in March 27, 1947, and he died March 6, 1993.
Surviving are three daughters: Bonnie White and Cynthia D. Taflinger, both of Bloomington,, IN, and Janet Barnett of Salem, IN; two sons, Edward "Bo" Taflinger of Bedford, IN, and Donnie Taflinger of Fort Wayne, IN; one brother, Earl Houchin of Indianapolis; two sisters, Clorine Sanders and Wanda Stigall, both of Bloomington, IN; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and thirty great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mona St. Clair; one sons in infancy; five brothers: Max (her twin), Paul, Clyde, Charles, and Gene Houchin; two sisters, Lula Grogan and Pearl Grissom; and twin brother and sister in infancy.
She retired from General Motors Powertrain and was a member of the Woodville Baptist Church.

Barnett – Carl Edward Barnett of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Bloomington Hospital Hospital. Born on February 27 1923, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Everett and Sylvia (Tincher) Barnett. He married Jean Bever on May 11, 1956, in Bedford, IN, and she survives.
Also surviving is one sister, Flora McCain of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Walter Barnett.
He worked in the stone industry as a crane operator for forty-three years, first at the Heltonville Mill, then at Indiana Limestone. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of the AFL-CIO International Union of Operating Engineers and the American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Hanner – Homer Hanner of Bedford, IN, died May Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at the Hospitality House. Born on June 26, 1917, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of Bazel and Sadie Catherine (Wray) Hanner. He married Betty Lou Mahan on May 25, 1952, and she died June 30, 1992.
Surviving are one son, John Bazel Hanner of Bedford, IN; four brothers: Frank Hanner of Jackson County, IN, and Joe Kenneth and Keith Hanner, all of Morgan County, IN; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
He retired from General Motors Powertrain and was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of Englewood Baptist Church, Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club, and the United Auto Workers Local 440.

Allen – Jennie Lake Allen of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on August 3, 1921, in Owensburg, IN, she was the daughter of Joseph and Martha Turpin. She married Oren Lake, and he died in 1973. She married Warren Allen on November 17, 1999, and he survives.
Also surviving are seven daughters: Darlin S. May of Harrodsburg, IN, Brenda K. Lake and Janet E. Sears, both of Bedford, IN, Martha A. May, Debra Walls and Tamara F. Brock, all of Springville, IN, and Cheryl Richardson of Bloomington, IN; four sons: Forest C., Charles "Eddie", Stephen O. and Joseph H. Lake, all of Bedford, IN; one brother, Elmer Turpin of Bloomington, IN; thirty-seven grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, threes sisters, and six grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Temple in Bloomington.

Kidwell – Fed E. "Junior" Kidwell of Columbus, OH, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Columbus. Born on July 10, 1930, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of John F. and Gladys (Nugent) Kidwell. He married Thelma A. Martin on December 25, 1948, and she died April 13, 1981.
Surviving are two sons, Charles and Stephen Kidwell, both of Columbus, OH; two daughters, Deborah Kaigley of Decatur, IL, and Roxanne Jones of Tacoma, WA; two brothers, Charles Douglas Kidwell of Brownstown, IN, and Robert Lee Kidwell, of Dugger, IN; eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He retired from Ford Motor Co in Indianapolis with j30 years of service. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 1111.

Mundy – Jerry Lee Mundy of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at his residence. Born on September 18, 1940, he was the son of Calvin and Beatrice (Case) Mundy. He married Lucy Pruett and she died after fifteen years of marriage. He married Susie Newport on October 12, 1998, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Ed Mundy of Bedford, IN; four step-sons: Dave, Mike and Doug Dillon, all of Salem, IN, and Steve Dillon of Pekin, IN; two brothers, Joe and Dave Mundy, both of Mitchell, IN; three sisters: Judy Asbury of Mitchell, IN, Kay Asbury of Orleans, IN, and Any Beckett of Washington, IN; five grandchildren and 16 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mike and Randy Mundy; one sister, Violet May Mundy; and one brother, Randy Mundy.
He retired from General Motors Powertrain and was an Army National Guard veteran, where he was an expert rifleman. He was a member of Crossroads Community Church and the United Auto Workers Local No. 440.

Belcher – Naomi Belcher of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on December 1, 1904, in Lawrenceport, IN, she was the daughter of William and Lucinda (Chandler) Fry. She married Sherman Belcher on January 19, 1925, and he died December 27, 1996.
Surviving are four sons: Elmer Belcher of Bedford, IN, Don Belcher of Vallonia, and Charles and Darrell Belcher, both of Mitchell, IN; three daughters: Dorothy Marshall of Boggstown, IN, Evalou Pate of Orleans, IN, and Mary Davis of Lakeland, FL; twenty grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, and thirty-one great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, two daughters, three brothers, and five sisters.
She was a former employee of Reliance Manufacturing and the French Lick Sheraton Hotel.

Cox – Lucille Cox of Bedford, IN, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on April 4, 1907, iin Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Arrelus and Bertha (Burton) White. She married Roy E. Cox on August 4, 1927, and he died January 9, 1984.
Surviving are one brother, Glen White of Mitchell, IN; four grandchildren: Larry Wessell of Las Vegas, NV, Becky Hedge of Bedford, IN, Scott Spinks of Williams, IN, and Brian Spinks of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Frances Spinks and Greta Wessell; one son, Lincoln White; and one brother and three sisters.

Surviving are one son, Tim Baker of Spencer, IN; his companion, Freida May of Williams, IN; one sister, Merlina Kay Malott of Mitchell, IN; three half-brothers: Larry Dean Condiff of Georgia, Ronald Pridemore, and Roger McCoy, both of Mitchell, IN; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary Bundy, Sue Gannon, and Betty Deweese.
He worked at General Electric in Bloomington. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated with honors from Indiana University in 1983.

Surviving are three half-sisters: Melba McNew of AZ, Lois Allen of Bedford, IN, and Vera An Fig of Indianapolis; and one half-brother, Edward Peel of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Meadows; three brothers, John, Claude, and Jimmy Peel; two half=sisters, Mercedes Voorhies and Madeline Higgins; and one half-brother, Charles Peel Jr.
She was a homemaker and attended the Free Methodist Church.

Maddox – Gene F. Maddox of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 10, 1928, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Cletus and Mary Lessie (Hardin) Maddox. He married Loretta Phillips on April 30, 1949, and she survives.
Also surviving are are one son, Dennis Maddox of Bedford, IN; five daughters: Diane Thomas and Teresa Hutchinson, both of Springville, IN, Pamela Cobb, Rita Verbocht, and Sheila Decker, all of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Dale and Ben Maddox, both of Bedford, IN; seventeen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Ray, Roy, Richard, and Harry Maddox.
He was a retired stone quarry worker and a member of Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene.

Rach – David Roy Rach of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on August 28, 1923, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Frank M. and Margaret (Rach) McDaniel.
Surviving are his companion, Verdie Guthrie of Bedford, IN; two sons, Kevin Rach of Bedford, IN, and William Rach of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Carol Hovis of Indianapolis; one aunt, Mary Lee of Tipton, IN; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He retired from the U.S. Army with 32 years of service and was a Command Sergeant Major. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War , and two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was a 55-year member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, BPOE Elks Lodge No. 826, and Voiture 1192, 40&8, for twenty-three years. He was of Protestant faith.

Rimstidt – Margaret McIntire Rimstidt, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the home of her niece. Born on November 11, 1910, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of John Bowers and Elizabeth (Biggs) McIntire. She married Arthur I. Rimstidt on March 15, 1970, and he died February 14, 1982.
Surviving are one step-daughter, Mary June Margolin of Miami, FL; four nieces: Margaret Orman of Versailles, IN, Sue Ray of Springville, IN; Nancy Lakin of Bedford, IN, and Nancy Lea Salciccia of Mitchell, IN; two nephews, Charles Ruch of Omaha, NE, and Donald Ross Stout of Charleston, SC; one step-grandson, one step-granddaughter, and several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lea Biggs McIntire and Donald Ross McIntire, and one sister, Beulah Frances Ruch.
A graduate of Mitchell High School, she received a bachelor's degree in home economics from Purdue University and a master of education degree from Colorado A&E. She taught home economics at Mitchell High School for thirty-five years, retiring in 1969. She was active in Future Homemakers of American and 4-H organizations. She was a lifelong member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Fleur-de-Lis, Gamma Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa, Purdue University JAlumni, Omicron chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association.

Born on September 14, 1915, in Buddha, IN (Lawrence County), she was the daughter of Oliver P. and Mattie (Bond) Compton Harris. She married Richard L. Compton on July 20, 1937, and he died April 8, 2000.

Stephen Compton of New Salisbury, IN; one brother, Lawrence Harris of Casa Grande, AZ; one sister, Katherine Williams of Port Richey, FL; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Gladys Harris, and two half-brothers, Arlie and Charles Harris.

Surviving are his parents of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Teresa L. Stevens and Judy Guthrie, both of Bedford, IN; one brother, Scott Johnson of Bedford, IN; six nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ollie and Mildred (Porter) Henry.
There will be graveside services for James Johnson at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4th, at Leatherwood Cemetery with Mike Eads officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
