George E. “Bud” Barrett, 77, of Bedford, died at 2:53 p.m. on Wednesday at his residence.

Born May 13, 1934 in Orleans, he was the son of Everett and Edith (Giles) Barrett. He married Sally Moat on Dec. 1, 1956, and she preceded him in death.

He was a retired utility worker and retired from Carpenter Body Works after 41 years.

He was of the Methodist faith and loved auto racing and watching his grandchildren participate in sports.

Survivors include one son, Edward Barrett and wife Kimberly of Bedford; two daughters, Cheryl Sanders and husband Kenny of Mitchell and Diane Stevens and husband Joe of Bedford; four sisters, Norma Radcliff, Ruth King and husband Ron and Kathy Condra and husband Joe, all of Paoli, and Brenda Albright and husband Jerry of French Lick; four grandchildren, Kasey Barrett Jackson, Logan Barrett, Lane Barrett and Dustin Dyer; four stepgrandchildren, Evan and Morgan Sanders, Melissa Hilkey and Jeremy Stevens; three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Jovi and Olivia Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Radcliff.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Kenny Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery in Orange County.

Ryatt Jace Lewis, age 31⁄2 months, of Springville, passed away at Indiana University Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis at 7:16 a.m. on Wednesday.

Ryatt was born on Dec. 9, 2011, in Louisville, Ky., to Lisa Hammersley and Rhett Lewis.

Survivors include his mother, Lisa Hammersley of Springville; his father, Rhett Lewis of Bedford; one brother, Townes Ricketts of Williams; one sister, Drew Gilbertson of Jasonville; grandparents, Larry and Sue Hammersley of Springville, and David and Rhea Lewis of Bedford.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Ruth ‘Aileen’ Quackenbush

Ruth “Aileen” Quackenbush, 77, of Lexington, N.C., formerly of Bedford, died at 10:25 a.m. on Sunday at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Born Nov. 9, 1934, in Magoffin County, Ky., she was the daughter of Ezra Salyers and Virginia (Allen) Salyers. She married William Walker Quackenbush on Dec. 29, 1957, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1990.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church for many years.

Surviving are one son, William Wade Quackenbush of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Billy Wayne Arnett of Lexington, N.C., and Hager Ward Arnett of Linwood, N.C.; one sister, Donna Sue Standifer of Three Oaks, Mich.; one stepsister, Alvideen Salyers of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two stepbrothers, Dennis Arnett and Jolly Arnett; and one stepsister, Deloris Holiday.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor John Lane officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Bedford.

Joshua David Wilson, 33, of Orleans, died Tuesday at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Josh was born June 30, 1978. He was the son of David and Teresa Deckard Wilson. He graduated from Orleans High School with the class of 1998 and was a member of the Mount Horeb Baptist Church.

He had worked as a diesel mechanic for Young and Sons Inc., Indianapolis. On weekends he worked at the Orange County Processing.

Josh is survived by his mother, Teresa Wilson of Avoca; his fiancée, Amber Hebenstreit of Franklin; his grandmother, Betty McCammon of Bloomington; five aunts, Sherry Brenda Leive, Diane Daugherty, Pam Collins, Becky Hedge and Garnet Mundy; and two uncles, Steve Deckard and Mark Fleener.

He was preceded in death by his father, David; his brother, Spencer; sister, Meggie Kate; grandparents, Wayne and Doris Wilson; and his aunt Cathy Steele.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Brother Wade Judy officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Orleans.

Jerry Byron Waskom, 74, of Bedford, formerly of Columbus, died Monday at his residence.

Born Feb. 13, 1938, in Tampico (Jackson County), he was the son of Ira Lee and Myrtle (Jenkins) Waskom. He married Janice Kay Flinn on Dec. 14, 1957, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Tampico High School. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bedford and a former member of the Lions Club in Columbus and Salem.

He retired after 30 years as manager of programming at Cummins Engine and had worked part-time for Sears.

Survivors include his wife, Kay of Bedford; three sons, Jerry “Brad” Waskom of Columbus, Brian Kenneth Waskom of Liberty, Ky., and Barry Flinn Waskom and wife, Janet of Pace, Fla.; one daughter, Sandra Kay Kelley of Pace, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Ray Waskom of Brownstown; one sister, Lonaveen Johnson of Brownstown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald Lee and Larry Dennis Waskom; and one sister, Ivajean Thompson.

Mona Grace (Brock) Cobb

Mona Grace (Brock) Cobb, 55, of Bedford, passed away Monday at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

She was born Feb. 15, 1957, in Bedford, to James Harold and Elsie Lorene (Kern) Brock. She married Bill Cobb on April 13, 1992, and he survives.

She attended Shawswick High School and was a member of the Bedford Boat Club.

Mona was a certified respiratory therapist and had worked at Dunn Hospital, Bedford Medical Center, Garden Villa and was currently working at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Mona was greatly loved and admired by her co-workers.

Surviving with her husband Bill of Bedford are her children Toby Lee Wade, Georgi Anne Wade, William D. Cobb and wife Jamie and Benjamin Cobb and wife Jess, all of Bedford; grandson, Jacob Liam Wade and 10 grandchildren; one sister, Myra England and husband Denver of Bedford; one brother, Kenneth G. Brock of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Nancy Brock; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jimmie Drew Brock.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Larry D. Mills, 55, of 1449 Tripleton Pike, Bedford, died Sunday at his residence.

Born March 26, 1956, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William Larry Mills and Susie A. (Bell) Mills Willis.

He had worked at Indiana Limestone Company. He loved to restore vehicles and racing.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Cheryl Martin; two sons, Billy Mills and his wife Nyoka and Jessie Mills, all of Springville; grandchildren, Billy Dean Mills, Zachery, Issac and Kaitlyn Mills; one great-granddaughter, Brilyn Mills; one brother, Alan Mills of Bedford; one sister, Tina Mynatt of Bedford; and his paternal grandmother, Mattie Mills.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandfather, William Mills; his maternal grandparents, Anderson and Callie Bell, and his dog Angel.

Marilyn J. Smith

Celebration of Life

There will be a celebration of life for Marilyn J. (Sowders) Smith from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, at Skyhaven Entertainment, 3631 Washington Ave. Smith died March 18 at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

There will be live country, bluegrass and gospel music performances by family members, friends and loved ones.

She was a homemaker and caregiver. She loved playing bingo at Mr. Gatti’s, listening to music at Skyhaven Entertainment and visiting her hairdresser, Jean, at Tigress Lair.

Funeral services were March 21 at Day & Carter Mortuary and burial was in Bartlettsville Cemetery.

Donald W. Owens, 71, of Williams, died at 10:10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born Oct. 15, 1940, in Williams, he was the son of Ralph and MaryBelle (Gee) Owens. He married LulaBelle Baker on Nov. 25, 1959, and she survives.

Donald was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

He began working for Monon in 1963 and retired 40 years later as an engineer for CSX Railroad. Donald was a member of the Mount Olive Church of Christ.

He enjoyed photography, playing guitar, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, LulaBelle of Williams; four children, Kelli Brady and husband Clark of Plainfield, Sherri Martin and husband Michael of Plainfield, Donald Wayne Owens of Solsberry, and Stephanie Anderson and husband Robby of Bedford; six grandchildren, Audrey Brady, Anna Martin, Joshua Martin, Nicholas Brady, Caleb Martin, and Jordan Owens; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Hovis.

Emil Richard “Sim” Olson, 92, of Bedford, died at 3:10 a.m. on Monday at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born June 19, 1919, in Chicago, he was the son of Emil and Helga (Larson) Olson. He married Mary K. Metzger on Jan. 25, 1941, and she survives.

He was a senior buyer for S.S. Kresge and K-Mart Corporation.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Bedford; one son, Larry Olson and wife Linda of Bedford; two daughters, Carol Olson of Elgin, Ill., and Karin Blinkilde and husband Peter of Greenville, Mich; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother; and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; and a brother.

Cremation was chosen. No calling hours or services are planned.

Betty Louise Reynolds, 84, Bedford, passed away at 7:55 p.m. Saturday at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born April 22, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., she was the daughter of Harrison and Florence (Hinckley) Keele. She married Gerald Leslie Reynolds June 13, 1956, and he preceded her in death Nov. 19, 1999.

She was a waitress. Betty was a member of the Salvation Army Home League, Silver Mother and awarded the Gold Star at the death of her daughter, Major Sharon Green.

Surviving are children, Carl R. (Terrie) Lewis of Memphis, Tenn., Millie S. (Rick) Peacock of Brighton, Colo., and Kathleen Pennington of Bedford; son-in-law, Major Wes Green of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Carl Jr., Christie, Daniel, Michael, James, Jessica, Marcus, and Elizabeth; 15 great-grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; son, William D. Lewis; daughter, Sharon R. Green; six brothers; and three sisters, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Captain Donna Rose officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kan.

Lisa was a homemaker and member of the First Nazarene Church in Bedford.

Patricia Lou Ikerd, 75, of Bedford died at 7:05 p.m. on Friday at the StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Born Dec. 27, 1936, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Roy and Leona (Lake) Beavers.

Patricia worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at Dunn Memorial Hospital and ended her career at Indiana Home Health Care.

Patricia leaves behind two sons, David and wife Samyeh of Brownsburg, and Bobby and wife Shelley of Oolitic; one granddaughter, Laken of Bloomington; and two stepgrandchildren, Gary of Brownsburg and Kaleigh of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cindy Scott and son-in-law, Sam Scott; a four brothers, Kenny, Cecil, Dick and Joe Beavers.

Ruby C. Davis, 80, of Bedford died at 9 p.m. on Friday, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Nov. 8, 1931, in Richmond, Ky., she was the daughter Jerry and Eura (Oller) Cole.

She married John W. Davis in 1950; he died Feb. 15, 1960.

She was a homemaker and a baby-sitter for more than 40 years.

Surviving are two sons, Roger (Julie) Davis of Hinesville, Ga., and John (Cindee) Davis of Bedford; two daughters, Carolyn (Richard Box) Davis of Bedford and Linda (John) Stotts of Williams; two brothers, Hubert (Joan) Cole and Herbert (Ella) Cole; four sisters, Lucy Mae Webster, Mary Neal Branum, Lucille Simpson and Elizabeth Moman; six grandchildren, Matthew Evans, Alecia (Evans) Simmerman, Jonathon Evans, Jayden (Davis) Wilson, Steven Davis and Chrystal Davis; and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Harvey Cole and Monroe Cole; one grandson, Kyle Davis; four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; and two nephews, Rodney Webster and Herbie Cole.

Timothy Roy Roll, 51, a resident of White River Lodge, died at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born Oct. 11, 1960, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Elroy Roll and Carolyn (Eagans) Butcher. He had worked at G.E. in Bloomington and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He enjoyed building models and was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Butcher and husband Marshall; three sons, Steven A. Roll, John R. Roll and Timothy R. Roll II, all of Bedford; one sister, Terri Lynn Holmes of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Trevor Roll of Mitchell; one granddaughter, Cash Ann Roll; and one grandson, Brandley Edward Allen Roll.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elroy Roll.

Gerald E. Todd

Gerald E. Todd, 66, of Heltonville, died at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Aug. 11, 1945, in Heltonville, he was the son of Logan and Izolla (Hawkins) Todd. He married Mary Ann Stigall on Aug. 26, 1966, and she survives.

He retired as a sawyer from Midland Cut Stone. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church and enjoyed bowling, mushroom hunting, basketball and spending time with the grandkids. He was a stock car driver from 1969 to 2010 at Brownstown and Bloomington. He was named rookie of the year in 1969, driver of the year in 1971 and sportsman of the year in 2008 at Bloomington Speedway.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, of Heltonville; two daughters, Darnell Manley of Mooresville, N.C. and Mechell Layne of Heltonville; a son, Travis Todd of Heltonville; grandchildren, Austin Todd, Grady Butler, Peyton Layne and Logan Manley; brothers, Otis Todd (JoAnne) of Nashville, Wayne Todd (Cheryl) of Greenville, S.C., Marion Todd (Alice) of Heltonville, Alfred Todd (Phyllis) of Greencastle, and Elmer Todd (Susan) of Springville; and sisters, Oneta Smith of Heltonville and Sharon Arthur of Smithville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Aim’ee Todd; three brothers and four sisters.

He was a long term employee of the state of Indiana and an avid outdoorsman.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1952, in Indianapolis, the son of Ruth Stotz Blevins and the late James T. Blevins of Brownstown.

James H. Taylor, 87, of Peru, died at 9:05 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Mitchell, the son of George H. and Nina (Kimes) Taylor. He married Joan A. Phillips on April 3, 1947, and she preceded him in death on May 13, 1998.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion in Peru.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Cindy) Taylor of Peru; two daughters, Theresa (Donald) Molencupp of Ligonier and Sharon Maderos of Modesto, Calif.; one brother, Leroy Taylor of Mitchell; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter, Michele Hahn; and 10 siblings.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Jack Taylor officiating. Burial will follow.

James Raymond Carey, age 76, of Noblesville, died Wednesday at Riverview Hospital at Noblesville.

He was born Oct. 20, 1935, at Arcadia, to Raymond “Bud” and Thelma Ann (Myers) Carey.

Jim, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Walnut Grove High School with the Class of 1953. He then served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was a farmer while also working at other vocations including sales representative for Hare Chevrolet at Noblesville, Delco Remy at Anderson, General Electric Company, U.S. Mail carrier at Heltonville, and he also owned a tool and bolt company that he operated from his residence that he called Carey’s Corner.

Jim attended Cicero Christian Church. He treasured his wife, children, and grandchildren and enjoyed interacting with them and his extended family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, eagle watching and anything about trains.

When he worked as a car salesman, he met Shirley Louise Tierney. He offered her a steak dinner if she bought a car from him. As their relationship progressed they became husband and wife on Feb. 1, 1963. Shirley survives him along with four daughters and their husbands, Deb (Randy) Lambert of Pittsboro, Kim (Bruce) Powell of Clayton, Jacquie (Carson) Wells of Bedford, and Jenny (John) Mehling of Noblesville; a sister, Betty Anne Lee and her daughter, Kathy Bolander; grandchildren, Danny and Amy Lambert, Tyler and Krista Powell, Danielle Wells, and Noah and Careybeth Mehling; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Allen Carey; a daughter, Lisa Kay Carey; and a sister, Linda Lou Gibbons.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cicero Christian Church with Pastor Tim Lueking and Pastor Tony DeWeese officiating. Burial will occur at a later date at the Arcadia Cemetery.

Henry Maurice “Hank” Elliott, 86, Fort Ritner, died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

He was born June 8, 1925, in Jackson County. In September 1952 he married Dolores Hughes Elliott, and she survives.

Mr. Elliott graduated from Medora High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked at the Vallonia State Nursery from 1949 to 1990.

He loved hunting, fishing, working outdoors, and watching basketball, especially I.U. basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; a son, Brian Elliott of Seymour; three grandchildren, Justin Wade Elliott of Seymour, Bryan Lee Elliott of Medora, and Codi Rachelle Elliott of Seymour; six great-grandchildren; and a halfsister, Mary Alice Gardner of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by half-brother, Cliff Brown.

Eva M. Carnes, 95, Mitchell, passed away at 12:28 a.m. Tuesday at Paoli Health and Living Community.

Born July 2, 1916, in Orleans, she was the daughter of Ira M. and Nellie (Rose) Cox. She married James Carnes in 1972.

She was a homemaker and had been employed at Trav-Ler Radio Corporation.

Eva was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, James Carnes of Paoli; children, Bessie Hopper of Knightstown, Mary (Ed) Patterson of St. Charles, Mo., James W. (Pam) Bartlett of Mitchell and Ellen Fay Bartlett of Hamilton, Ohio; grandson, Casey Bartlett of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Mae Hall of Paoli; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; and brothers, Charles Cox, Harold Cox and Kenneth Cox, preceded her in death.

Genevieve C. Joque

Genevieve C. Joque, 92, passed away on March 15 at her home at Bell Trace Senior Living in Bloomington, with family at her side.

Genevieve was born and raised in Escanaba, Mich. After finishing high school, she worked for a while in Chicago during World War II. Then after moving back home, she married Walter, her husband of 66 years, and lived in Champaign, Ill. until Walter’s discharge from the Army Air Corps.

Moving back to Escanaba again and starting their family, they took over and operated a candy and confectionary wholesale company for many years. She became an early version of the working mom, working with her husband in their company and raising her five children. However, her family was always her first priority and she fostered an atmosphere of love and devotion to one another that is a lasting memorial.

She also became a licensed real estate agent after retiring from the wholesale business.

She and her husband moved to Bloomington six years ago and resided at Bell Trace, a senior living community.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; and her five children, Darrell (Jenness) of Tacoma, Wash., James (Elizabeth Zentner) of Mosinee, Wis., Peggy (Mark Williams) of Madison, Wis., David (Lisa Kasmer) of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Jean (Marty Johnson) of Bedford. Genevieve is also survived by nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Escanaba, Mich. A memorial service is planned for Genevieve at Bell Trace in Bloomington at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30.

Born Aug. 27, 1917, in Huron, she was the daughter of John Carl and Margaret Dora (Schiller) Jones. She married James Frederick “Fred” Blevins Dec. 5, 1936, and he preceded her in death June 2, 1972.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Huron Baptist Church.

Agnes graduated from Huron High School in 1935.

Born June 19, 1983, in Madison County, he was the son of Glen Crose and Debra (Celmer) Hettle.

He was a senior calibration technician at Baxter in Bloomington.

He was a member of the N.R.A. and the Bedford Boat & Sportsmen’s Club. He loved to hunt and fish.

A special young man left us Sunday. We were blessed to have him for 28 years. He was our son, our brother and our hero.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jerome and Debra Hettle; his father and stepmother, Glen and Betty Crose; paternal grandmother, Mary Crose; stepsister, Carla Hettle; aunt, Debbie Stout; and his longtime girlfriend, Kaycie Collins.

She was a homemaker and caregiver. She loved playing bingo at Mr. Gatti’s, listening to music at Skyhaven Entertainment and visiting her hairdresser, Jean, at Tigress Lair.

Born March 13, 1922, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Fred and Ethyl (Owen) LuAllen. She married Ervin (Bud) Ritter on Dec. 3, 1945, and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1974.

She was a member of Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene.

Martha retired from the North Lawrence School System where she worked as a cook.

He married Laura Knight on Aug. 11, 2008, and she survives.

He was a former carpenter and crew chief for Greg Kendall Racing. He attended Bride of Christ church in Mitchell.

Oct. 11, 1960 — March 15, 2012

Lance Eric DePhue, 51, of Bloomington, passed away from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident late Thursday night in Johnson County. He was born in Bedford, Indiana, to Myrna DePhue Chambers on October 11, 1960.

Lance was a 1979 graduate of Bloomington High School South, and spent his professional career in brick masonry work. He worked on a number of various job sites such as Indiana University, Indianapolis, and most recently Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the Indianapolis Colts. He also owned his own company, known as BiG Red Masonry. Lance was involved with the B.P.O.E. of Bloomington, was a huge NASCAR fan as well as the Colts. Lance was also very proud of his service in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, serving abroad as well as in the States.

He leaves behind his sister, Monika Chambers of Bloomington; daughter, Tiffany Shields of Bloomington; a son, Andrew Bryant of Tennessee; grandchildren, Dorian Borom, Tianna Kincade, Cantrell Kincade, and D.J. Terrell; nieces and nephews, Eden Brananman, Jacob Brananman and Tabetha Brananman; an uncle, Phillip “Pooch” DePhue; an aunt, Vicki Dobson and husband Murl of Bloomington, and aunt, Sharon Chilton of Seaside, Oregon. Lance was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gladys and Edwin “Jake” DePhue; mother, Myrna DePhue Chambers; a brother, Cody Chambers; and his wife Barb DePhue in March of 2011.

Born Dec. 10, 1924, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Arnold and May (Pershing) Kelsey. She first married John Crane on Oct. 12, 1942, and he preceded her in death on June 23, 1967. She later married Auddie Arthur on Aug. 3, 1968, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2006.

She worked at Trav-Ler Radio and Television Corporation in Orleans for 10 years.

Mom attended the East Oolitic Community Church. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 801 and Euchre Club.

She donated to a different charity each month, always putting everyone else first.

Her hobbies were quilting, yard sales, game shows, country and gospel music, and she was an avid euchre player. Her greatest enjoyment was being with family and friends.

She never met anyone she didn’t like or anyone that didn’t love her. She was Mom to a lot of people, but to her children, Our Mother, Our Angel always watching over us all.

Survivors include four sons, John Crane and wife Jo of Mitchell, Billy Crane and wife Linda of Orleans, Randall Crane and wife Debbie of Linton, and Steve Crane and wife Bonnie of New Orleans; one daughter, Brenda Silvers of Medora; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two sons, Leland and Jerry Crane; two daughters, Wanda and Nancy Crane; four brothers, Russell, Calvin, Dennis and Claude; two sisters, Fern Nicholson and Alice Bland; and one son-in-law, Jack Silvers.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Springville West Cemetery.

Roberta Ann Scripture, 80, Bedford, died Tuesday at her residence.

Born on Jan. 1, 1932, in Cutler, she was the daughter of Noah Frank and Mary Olive (Swisher) Coulter. She married Robert E. Scripture on March 19, 1950. He preceded her in death in 2005. They were married 55 years.

She grew up in Frankfort and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1950. Robert and Roberta raised three children and moved to Indianapolis in 1966. Roberta attended nursing school at Ivy Tech and worked as an LPN for 15 years, retiring in 1995. She and her husband moved to Bedford in 2004 to be closer to their two daughters.

“Bert” loved tending the flowers in her yard and entertaining family and friends, and was happy playing games or making puzzles anytime.

She attended two churches in Bedford, the First Christian Church and the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, William Scripture (Chin) of Farmington Hills, Mich., Cheryl Ammon (Robin) of Bedford and Mary Andrews (Steve) of Bedford,; 6 grandchildren, Rock Ammon of Bedford, Kelly Ammon (Kevin Kieffer) of Brownsburg, Robert Scripture (Colleen) of Highland, Mich., Dion Scripture of Niantic, Conn., Neal Andrews of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Garrett Andrews of Bedford; four great-grandchildren, Haley Ammon, Logan Ammon, Amy Scripture and Hana Scripture; and four siblings, Carolyn Robertson of Frankfort, Jean White of Colfax, Larry Coulter (Kathy) of Lakeview, Fla., and Dianna Snapp (Larry) of Camden;; and several nieces and nephews.

Denny Ray Perkins, 78, of Bedford, died Tuesday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1933, he was the son of Floyd and Clonia (Page) Perkins. Denny grew up on the farm his great-grandparents homesteaded on North Pike. He married Samantha (Sammy) Catherine Crane on June 6, 1953, and she survives.

Denny earned his living trimming trees and as a mechanic and truck driver with his wife as a team.

He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he had held a number of offices including the chairman of trustees.

He was always an outdoorsman, enjoying time in the woods with his family camping, 4-wheeling and hiking.

Survivors include his wife, Sammy of Bedford; their children, Denise (Clifford) Buckingham, Roger (Kathy) Perkins, Pam (John) Dean, Jeffery (Debbie) Perkins and Andrew Perkins, all local residents; grandchildren, Paul (Christine) Buckingham and their sons, Connor and Ryan of Mason, Ohio, Catherine Buckingham of Salt Flat, Texas, Shane (Tannalee) Chapman and sons, Gavin and Maddox of Bloomington, Adam Chapman and daughter, Madison of Avoca, Kyle Chapman of Bloomington, Alan Perkins of Bedford, Wesley (Victoria) Perkins and daughters, Maleah and Jasmyn of Bedford; and two sisters, Linda Hache and Patricia (Richard) Brigner both of Florida.

He retired from Visteon and was a 1978 graduate of Bedford-North Lawrence High School. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post No. 250, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 654.

Howard I. Sears, 67, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday morning at his residence.

He was born in Lawrence County on July 29, 1944, the son of Forrest and Edith (Goodson) Sears.

He was formerly employed by Superior Auto Parts in Bedford and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Shiloh Temple in Bloomington.

His survivors include his wife, Janet (Lake) Sears of Bedford; two daughters, Niki, (husband J.D.) Brown and Natalie Sears (companion Dave Flynn), all of Bedford; one son, Paul Jones of Bedford; five grandchildren, Lalei Brown, Kaden Flynn, Keaton Flynn, Maggie Jones and Aiden Jones; and one sister, Yvonne Stewart of Bedford.

He is also survived by his faithful dog “Smuckers.”

Howard was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Gayle Conrad.

Rita Marie Chastain, 57, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born Jan. 14, 1955, in Bedford, she was the daughter of William H. “Bud” and Dorothy (Cummings) Chastain.

She was employed as custodian at Mitchell Community Schools for 12 years. Rita was a self employed dog groomer for more than 30 years at Scissors and Suds.

A 1973 graduate of Mitchell High School, she enjoyed softball, track, and basketball.

Surviving are sisters, Pamela Sue Moore of Mitchell and Cindy Garceau of Williams.

A private family service was conducted Tuesday afternoon at Mitchell Cemetery.

She graduated from Shawswick High School with the Class of 1942. She was a bookkeeper for the Hitchcock Insurance Agency in Bedford.

She moved from Bedford to Indianapolis in 1970, where she worked at the National Headquarters of the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, retiring in 1989. She then worked for the Justus Corporation (Crestwood North) retiring in 2001.

She was a member of the Union Chapel Methodist Church in Indianapolis and was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen R. (Don) Henrich of LaPorte, Stephanie J. (John) Purcell of Orange Park, Fla., and Dona R. (Jim) Thomas of Carmel; seven grandchildren, Don Henrich, John Henrich, Michelle Sado, John Purcell, Jennifer Bojrab, Jamie Hudson and Jimmy Thomas; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Judy (Phillip) Blackwell of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Carl V. Fry; one sister, Phyllis McAfee; and one brother, Louis D. Menaugh.

Agnes M. Litzelman

Agnes M. Litzelman, 98, Beech Grove, passed away Sunday at Beech Grove Meadows.

She was born in Bedford to the late Karl and Renilda (Diederich) Scherschel and was a graduate of Bedford High School.

She is the widow of Severin C. “Dutch” Litzelman.

She was an accountant for 31 years for General Motors in Bedford. While residing in Bedford, Agnes was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a charter member of the Parish Council, past president of the Altar Society and she organized a senior citizens club, appropriately named the “Silver and Gold” club.

She moved to Indianapolis and became a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where she became a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Parish Council. Agnes made countless altar linens for both churches. In her later years, she became a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove.

Agnes was preceded in death by her 10 siblings; Sr. Mary Borromeo, Edward, Charles, Angela, Frances Marie, William, Ralph and Rita Scherschel, Marcella Bledsoe and Gertrude Phillips.

Agnes had no children of her own but was a mother to her many nieces and nephews.

Agnes loved to tell family history stories, especially about the Scherschel family school bus, which was the first bus built by Carpenter Body Shop in 1924.

Agnes was devoted to God and the Catholic Church. She cared very deeply about the poor and the education of priests.

Born Oct. 3, 1927, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Jeff and Zelphia (Coulter) Henderson. He married Mabel L. Kern on April 14, 1945, and she survives.

He was a member of the Old Union Christian Church. He worked hard all his life to provide the best he could for his family, finally retiring from Indiana Limestone in 1986. He then continued to work at home, taking special pride in his extraordinary vegetable gardens and was referred to by his friends as ‘the tomato man’.

She was a retired beauty salon owner and beautician, having worked at various salons throughout her career.

She attended Fayetteville Baptist Church for many years, and was a member of the Shawswick Alumni Group.

Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Probasco, of Bedford; two daughters, Danette Payton of Bedford, and Tessa (Wesley) Tipton of Bedford; two sisters, Deanna (David) Buck of Indianapolis; Barbara (Kevin) Wayman of Indianapolis; one brother, William (Linda) Connors II of Bedford; four grandchildren, Josie Mollet, Jesslyn Mollet, Braydon Tipton, and Haley Tipton.

She was born in Bedford on June 20, 1933, to Taft and Geneva (Williams) Kern.

Barbara was a homemaker, and also a caregiver to many, she had also worked at Buck Lemon Furniture in Bedford, along with George’s Gateway; she loved to work with the public. Barbara was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford.

Survivors include two sons, Lynn Bonnet and Danny Bonnet, both of Texas; one daughter, Beth Bonnet of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister Margaret Whitetree of Oklahoma; several close friends.

Feb. 8, 1963 — March 10, 2012

James B. (J.B.) Willoughby, 49, of Bedford, passed away at 12:01 p.m. on Saturday at Monroe Hospital in Bloomington following a short illness.

Born Feb. 8, 1963, in San Mateo, Calif., he was the son of James F. and Sandy (Linneman) Willoughby. He married Brenda Callahan on Oct. 15, 1988, and she survives.

He was a Past Master of the Bedford Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 14 where he was a member for over 20 years and an officer of the Bedford York Rite.

J.B. attended the First Church of God and most recently, the Free Methodist Church.

He was the customer service manager at ESPY services.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Bedford; his father and stepmother, James F. and Betty S. Willoughby of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; a brother, Kurt and Vanessa Willoughby of Danvers, Ill.; two stepbrothers, Monty Pritchard of Bedford and Jim Pritchard (Arin) of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; a nephew, Hunter J. Willoughby; a niece, Shandre’ Willoughby; and several other dearly loved nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his mother Sandy Willoughby.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Free Methodist Church in Bedford with Pastor John Lane and Pastor Reed Beard officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the church. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

James H. Moan

James H. Moan, 65, of Bedford, passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at his residence.

He was born on July 17, 1946, in Bedford, to James John and Hazel Rose (Buher) Moan. James attended elementary school at Crane, before moving to Southern California. James married Judy Berry Moan on Oct. 17, 1996, in Lake Tahoe, Nev., and she survives.

James was a retired Law Enforcement Officer, he served with the LAPD in Los Angeles and with Wyoming State Law Enforcement where he was an Investigator,

James was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a Vietnam War Veteran and a member of DAV.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Moan of Bedford; one son, James “Jay” Moan and wife Renee of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Kelly Moan of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Cameron Pinkney, and Brannen and Taryn Moan, all of Denver; four sisters, Diane Parham of Oregon, Linda Fleming of Wyoming, Mickey Donaldson of Illinois, and Kathleen Moan.

James was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Tom Moan, Earnest “Sunny” Moan.

Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with military rites given by American Legion Post No. 33.

Christine Downs

Christine Emberton Downs, 91, died Friday in Bedford.

She was a former employee of the old Flower-a-Rama in Jefferson Mall, Louisville, a gardener, an artistically talented homemaker creating beautiful quilts and paintings, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of Highview Baptist Church in Louisville.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Brusher John Emberton; and grandson, Christopher Shane Emberton.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Joseph Morrison Downs; children, Christine Reed Karr (James), Ron (Nanette) and Steve (Jackie) Emberton and Joellen Sabrowsky (Rick); 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jessie Dean “Chick” Williams.

Her funeral is at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation is after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Hester Ellisteen Underwood, 92, of Orleans, died Saturday at the Paoli Health and Living in Paoli.

She was born May 30, 1919, in Leipsic, the daughter of Harry and Mae Hall Parish. She married Rolla Wade Underwood on May 29, 1939, and he preceded in death in November of 1970.

She was a member of the Leipsic United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post in Mitchell.

For many years she was an Orange County 4-H Leader. She worked as a sales clerk for many years at Montgomery Ward in Paoli and in Bedford.

She is survived by two sons, James (Jo) Underwood of Orleans and Stephen D. (Pam) Underwood of Bedford; two daughters, Laura McNeely of Orleans and Leatha Gardner of Shepherdsville, Ky.; one brother, Harry Junior (Betty) Parish of Orleans; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Becky Sue Underwood; a brother, Elwood Parish; and a great-grandson, Logan Carver.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

A celebration of Life for Mike Frye, who died Nov. 11, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bloomington Holiness Church

Mike was born in Bloomington on Dec. 16, 1945, to Roscoe and Lucille (Southern) Frye. He attended grade school and middle school at Needmore School, graduated from Kankakee, Ill., high school and attended Olivet Nazarene College.

Mike worked for many years as Indiana Regional Manager for Clark Stations. He retired from ADT Security Systems in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mike is survived by his wife, Elma (Mullis) Frye; daughter, Britney (Frye) Cornell; beloved granddaughter, Andrea Cornell; mother, Lucille Frye; and sister, Linda (Frye) Eubanks.

Mike was larger than life with a vivacious personality and Happy go Lucky attitude.

John C. Farmer

John C. Farmer, 67, of Springville, died at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital, Bedford.

Born on April 30, 1945, in Glendale, Calif., he was the son of Carlyle and Lois (Mitchell) Farmer

He was a dedicated maintenance man and jack-of-all-trades. He was loved dearly by all of his neighbors. His garage always had one of the neighborhood vehicles in it.

He was a member of Life Tabernacle in Springville and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his sister, Sandra (Mike) Leon of Springville; four nephews, Timothy Sprague of Seymour, Neal (Amy) Sprague of Norman, Shawn Sprague of Norman, Michael (Drea) Leon of Sacramento, Calif.; two nieces, Bethany (Lee) Holliday and Tina (Randy) Barrow, both of Indianapolis; and some great neighbors that he considered his family.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Springville Christian Cemetery, with Pastor Douglas Kelley officiating.

Robert N. “Bob” Wagner, 83, of Louisville, formerly of Bedford, died at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday at Meadow View Health Center in Louisville.

Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Silverville, he was the son of Walter A. and Iva M. (Hackler) Wagner. He married Doris Williams on Feb. 12, 1950, and she survives.

He was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bedford.

Bob retired as a sales representative and enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of Louisville; one son, John Frederick Wagner and wife Susie of Lancaster, Calif.; one daughter, Beth Ann Warren and husband Joel of Louisville; two brothers, Ray Wagner and wife Norma of Bedford and Gilbert (Gib) Wagner and wife Betty of Williams; three grandchildren, Garrett McGill and wife Kasey, Mitchell McGill and wife Erin, and Shayna McGill, all of Louisville; and two great-grandchildren, Chandler McGill and Moira McGill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carmella Wagner; and two sisters, Joy Helen Smith and Wanda Mae Wagner.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Mike Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Silverville Baptist Cemetery.

William Standish

July 11, 1926 — March 7, 2012

William Rariden Standish, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, surrounded by his family and his dog Cutter.

Son of the late Fred and Louise Standish, Bill was born July 11, 1926, in Bedford. He spent an idyllic childhood with his brother Edward roaming the family-owned Hilltop Dairy Farm and playing along Leatherwood Creek. During his high school years, he played basketball for the Bedford Stonecutters, before attending Wabash College.

His college years were interrupted by service in the U.S. Army. Afterward, he returned to Wabash where he played basketball and married Betty Francis Erwin, his lifelong sweetheart, before graduating in 1948. Bill returned to Bedford where he ran the family business, Bedford Home Ice and Coal Company, and also served as chairman of the Board of Education.

In 1960, Bill moved to Charlotte, N.C., with his wife and two sons, William Rariden Standish II and Myles Erwin Standish, where he and Keith Peterson bought the John J. Morton Company. In 1973 he formed the Marble and Stone Shop. The family relocated to River Hills in Lake Wylie, in 1978, where Bill, who never retired, enjoyed his family, ACC basketball, golf, and his many friends in the community.

He always honored his Indiana roots and made a last solo journey to visit the family farms and old friends in the summer of 2011.

Bill was preceded in death by Betty Erwin Standish, his beloved wife of 62 years, and his brother, Edward Reid Standish.

He is survived by his two sons and families, Bill Standish and special friend Rena Colvard, and Myles E. Standish and wife Shelley Crisp; grandchildren, William R. Standish III (Trey), Katherine Standish Graves, husband Drew and daughter Haley, Nigel Rariden Standish, Nora Elizabeth Standish, Edward Reid Standish and fiancé Joanna Reilly, and Alice Starr Standish and special friend Aki Laakso.

Bill enjoyed a long and wonderful life, surrounded by dogs, family, friends and many cherished memories.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 11 a.m. Saturday at River Hills Community Church.

Freddie T. Salmon, 83, of Bedford, died at 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday at his residence.

Born Feb. 24, 1929, in Bedford, he was the son of Walter Salmon and Lola (Bolding) Salmon Hancock. He married Mary F. Newton on Dec. 19, 1952, and she survives.

He attended Shoals High School.

Freddie served in the Korean War with the United States Air Force; and was the former Commander of VFW Post No. 11306 of Bedford.

He proudly served as an elder of the Southland Church of Christ since 1985, and also taught Bible study at the church. He was first employed by Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. in Bloomington, where he met his wife. He then worked at NWSC Crane and retired in 1979. He also worked with and retired from Visteon.

Surviving are his wife, Mary F. Salmon of Bedford; three sons, Daniel E. (Mary Beth) Salmon of Martinsville, Mark E. (Denise) Salmon of Mitchell, and Alan L. Salmon of Indianapolis; two daughters, Susan A. (Tony) Hutton of Bedford and Lisa (Mark) Jenkins of Springville; two sisters, Geraldine Brown of Bedford, and Evelyn Pridemore of Bedford; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Salmon and John Salmon; and one sister, Phyllis Robbins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Southland Church of Christ, with Brother Bud Smith officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, with military rites accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Randall Scott “Randy” Groh, 46, of Bedford passed away unexpectedly at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Saturday.

Randy was born on May 29, 1965, in Bloomington to Franklin H. and Diana R. (Deckard) Groh.

He graduated from Bloomington High School South.

Randy was a former general manager of Steak ‘N Shake and the former owner of the restaurants, Café D’ Lish, D’Lish Pizza and Remember When. He was currently volunteering at HairMasters Salon in Bedford. Randy loved life, his family, his friends and animals.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Randy is survived by his partner, Warren Jackson of Bedford; father, Frank Groh; brothers, Steve Groh and wife Vera of Ellettsville; Jimmy Groh and wife Sheila of Spencer; and Brian Groh and wife Leann of Bedford; children, Camryn Hoard of Bloomington, and Katrina Hoard of Ellettsville; stepsons, Nick Jackson and Nate Jackson of Bedford; nine nieces and nephews; two great-nieces and one great-nephew; many friends; and his special pets, Jack, Sadie, Max and Lexie.

Richard D. Morales Sr., 54, of Bedford, died at 6:43 p.m. on Monday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born April 3, 1957, in San Fernando, Calif., he was the son of Jose Ruiz Morales and Margie (Gonzales) Morales.

He married Irma Villa in October of 1978; she survives in Mission Hills, Calif.

He was employed at GM Powertrain in Bedford as a hot metal fork lift driver, retiring in 2006.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; U.A.W. Local No. 440; was an avid Oakland Raiders fan; and he loved his 1963 Chevy Impala and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his mother, Margie Morales of Sylmar, Calif.; four sons, Richard Morales Jr., Michael (Jennifer) Morales, and Joseph (Jana) Morales, all of Bedford, and Steven (Jessica) Morales of San Fernando, Calif.; one daughter, Vanessa (Timothy) Childers of Bedford; 16 grandchildren, Gabriel Morales, Gaven Morales, Isabel Morales, Michael Morales Jr., Adrian Morales, Cameron Morales, Owen Walker, Amber Walker, Destiny Morales, Brydan Morales, Serina Morales, Mia Childers, Landon Childers, Lilyana Childers, Elias Morales and Steven Morales Jr.; one brother, Manuel Morales of Bedford; and one sister, Dolores Magana of Sylmar, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Ruben Morales; and niece, Cynthia Marie Morales.

James C. Prince Jr., 85, Mitchell, passed away at 3:52 a.m. on Tuesday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Hot Springs County, Ark., he was the son of James C. and Mildred (Fickle) Prince Sr. He married Dorothy Louise Loy Nov. 30, 1946.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Mitchell Living Water Church of God.

James retired from General Motors in 1985.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Prince of Mitchell; children, Jimmie (Diana) Prince of Mitchell, Ronnie (Dawnell) Prince of Bedford, Mary (Tony) Stockton of Bedford and James Travis (Debbie) Prince of Huron; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Prince of Caney, Ark.; and sister, Patty Ivy of Bismarck, Ark.

His parents preceded him in death.

She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother, and enjoyed Native American culture.

June M. Stedman, 87, of 1702 Valley View Drive, Bedford, died at 12:03 a.m. on Friday at her residence.

Born Sept. 25, 1924, in Auburn, she was the daughter of Garner M. and Helen (Webb) Cupp. She married Earl R. Stedman in Auburn on June 18, 1949, and he preceded her in death on April 29, 2008.

She was a nurse for 50 years, retiring in 1989 from the Betz Nursing Home in Auburn.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an avid IU basketball fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Candace and Christine Stedman, both of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Betty Krise.

Lena Bell Strother, 90, of Orleans, died Saturday at the Paoli Health and Living in Paoli.

She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Willisburg, Ky., the daughter of James Russell and Bessie Satterly Richardson. She married Charles C. Strother, who preceded her in death May 4, 1990.

Lena belonged to the Mitchell Kingdom Hall, and was a Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 55 years.

She is survived by four sons, William R. Vice of Paoli, Raymond C. Vice of Orleans, Charles L. Strother of Salem and Bobby W. Strother of Orleans; two daughters, Betty Jo Crites of Del Norte, Colo., and Gloria Jean Haverly of Mitchell; two brothers, James Richardson of Paoli and Glendle Richardson of Andrews, Texas; one sister, Christine Curtsinger of Orleans; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her stepmother, Della Richardson; and her sister. Lavon Moore.

Lowell “Matt” “Diesel” Pridemore, age 39 of Mitchell, passed away at 12:39 a.m. on Friday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital of natural causes.

Matt was born on April 3, 1972, in Washington, to Lowell “Gabe” and F. Elizabeth (Reynolds) Pridemore. He attended Mitchell schools and graduated with his GED through Bedford North Lawrence High School,

Matt was a disabled truck driver.

Survivors include his parents, Lowell “Gabe” and F. Elizabeth Pridemore of Mitchell: one son, Garrett Pridemore; one sister, Alice (Pridemore) Barrett and husband Shannon of Bedford; one nephew, Zachariah Pridemore of Bedford; several aunts and uncles; many friends; and his beloved puppy Chopper.

Dorothy M. Grissom, 95, of Bedford, passed away at 8 a.m. on Thursday at White River Lodge in Bedford.

She was born July 2, 1916, in Arthur, Ill., to Willard and Maude (Brokaw) Payton. Dorothy married William E. Grissom on Nov. 23, 1933, in Shoals and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1947. She attended Trinity Springs School & the Mount Olive Church of Christ, Dorothy was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Bob) Grissom and wife Sondra of Columbus, William E. Grissom, Jr. of Leesville and Paul W. Grissom and wife Myra of Mitchell; one daughter, Karen (Sue) Edwards and husband Larry of Columbus, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William E. Grissom Sr.; one son, Donald R. Grissom; three brothers, Richard (Dick) Payton, John Warren Payton and Hubert Payton; three sisters, Marjorie Wade, Helen Payton and Henrietta Payton; and one grandchild, Laura Edwards.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery in Williams.

Victoria Annette “Vicki” Davis, 59, Indianapolis, former longtime Martinsville resident, passed from this life unexpectedly on Feb. 27, 2012, while visiting her son in Smyrna, Tenn.

She was born March 10, 1952, in Shoals, to the late Paul and Vivian (Baker) Lannan.

Mrs. Davis was a Bedford North Lawrence High School graduate and attended vocational school.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting Native American art and she was a dedicated Nana to her two grandchildren.

She leaves behind her loving family including her husband, James A. “Junior” Davis, Jr. of Indianapolis, whom she married in 1978: also two sons, Steven “Mac” Harris (Samantha) of Smyrna, Tenn., and Justin Davis of Indianapolis; four sisters, Adah Harrell, Adele Purlee and April Glenn, all of Bedford, and Bettie Hubbard of Indianapolis; and two grandchildren, Samuel Michael and Shaine Morgan Harris.

Friends are welcome to visit from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center, Martinsville.

Cremation will follow the visitation and there will be no funeral service or burial.

Larry G. Gray

Larry George Gray, 54, of Lexington, formerly of Bedford, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday at King’s Daughter’s Hospital in Madison.

He was born on Feb. 6, 1958, in Milan, the son of Gary Elwood Sr. and Phyllis Brown Gray. He was raised in Cross Plains, then moved to Bedford, where he was a 1976 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. He graduated in 1981 from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry.

Larry was raised in the Methodist faith. He was united in marriage on May 31, 1980, to Barbara A. Green in Batesville. This happy union was blessed with a son, George Charles and a daughter, Kathlyne J.

Larry was employed for the past 30 years with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. He currently served as the manager at the Charlestown State Park since 1995, when the park opened. He also managed the Falls of the Ohio State Park and had previously worked at the Clifty Falls State Park as the assistant manager.

Larry will be missed by his wife, Barbara A. Gray of Lexington; his son, George Charles Gray and companion Chellsey Jones of Madison; his daughter, Kathlyne J. Gray Zuercher and husband Benjamin of Columbus; his mother, Phyllis Brown Gray of Bedford; his brother, Gary Gray Jr. of Bedford; his sisters, Patricia Medlock and husband Steve of Guilford and Mary Gray Stockton of Bedford; his brother-in-law, Charlie Green and wife Karen of Indianapolis; one niece, four nephews, several aunts, uncles and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Elwood Gray Sr.; his grandparents, J. Carl and Georgia Brown and Gilbert and Evelyn Gray.

Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, with Brother Bob Hicks officiating.

Edward “Ned” Moore Boyer II, 52, of Germantown, passed away Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis.

He was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School in Bedford, a 1982 graduate of Ball State University, where he played football and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He was currently working at FTN Financial.

Ned was a loving son, brother, husband, father, friend and dedicated volunteer coach for various youth athletics throughout the community.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Boyer; and is survived by his loving wife, Amy T. Boyer; children, Liza Boyer Easley (Edward), Doug, Patrick and Bridget Boyer; parents, Ned and Mary Nell Boyer; sister, Angela Falcone (Bob); and brother, Greg Boyer (Barb).

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., today, March 1, 2012 at Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday at Church of the Holy Spirit, 2300 Hickory Crest, Memphis, Tenn.

Thomas Seybold Jr.

Thomas Seybold Jr., 91, a former resident of Mitchell, passed from this life surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on Feb. 24 at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.

Tom was born on Feb. 15, 1921, in French Lick to the late Thomas Seybold and Lindy (Hall) Seybold Caplinger.

He was a graduate of West Baden High School and lived his life in Orange County with his wife, Marjorie Marie (Pitcher) Seybold. She preceded him in death in May 1988.

He was a pipefitter and member of the Local Union No. 136 Plumbers and Steamfitters of Evansville.

Tom served his country honorably during World War II from Jan. 25, 1943 — Jan. 6, 1946, in the U.S. Army. He received three bronze stars, a good conduct medal and victory medal for his service.

He held memberships in the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and the Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, both in Mitchell. He also enjoyed fishing and later in life, he took an interest in dancing.

He is survived by a host of loving family including his son, Thomas L. (Annette) Seybold of Newburgh; daughter, Marquetta (Buddy) Dalton of Centerton; four grandchildren, Phillip, Eric and Amanda Dalton and Garrett Seybold; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three sisters, Margie Seybold, Minnie Dixon and Grace Abel.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Chastain Funeral Home in Mitchell. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

John W. “Wink” Neill, age 84, of Bedford, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1927, in Greene County, to John B. and Ruby Emily (Hunter) Neill. John married Elsie Northam on Dec. 12, 1953, in Indianapolis, and she survives.

He retired from NWSC Crane in 1995. He was a boiler operator. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion Post No. 33, Bedford, attended Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford, and was a member of the Concord General Baptist Church in Greene County.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Elsie Neill of Bedford; one son, John “Michael” Neill and wife Ronda of Bedford; two daughters, Susan Whitman and husband Joe of Nashville, Tenn., and Joyce Fish of Bedford; eight grandchildren, Randy Whitman, Ryan Neill, Chris Whitman, Sarah Caleb, Casey Fish, Kirsten Fish, Claire Whitman and Aaron Fish; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Willard Neill and wife Sally of Bloomfield; and two sisters, Nadene Britton and husband Jim of Bloomfield, and Annabelle Beckstein and husband Eugene of Sarasota, Fla.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Warren Neill.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Concord General Baptist Church, 2340 East Calvertville Road. Bloomfield. Burial will follow at the Calvertville Cemetery.
