Francis E. Moore

Feb. 22, 1925 — Jan. 30, 2012

Francis E. Moore, age 86 of Bedford, passed away at 5:50 a.m. on Monday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

Francis was born in Lawrence County on Feb. 22, 1925, to Clifford and Priscilda (Mercer) Moore. He married Margie Way on Jan. 26, 1946, in Bedford; she preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2006.

Francis retired in 1986 from GM Powertrain in Bedford; he was a tool grinder. Francis attended Bedford High School, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 33 in Bedford and member of Bedford Wesleyan Church for more than 60 years. Francis was one of the first Shawswick Township volunteer firemen, he served on Shawswick Township Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years, including 12 years as fire chief.

Survivors include three sons, Edward Moore and wife Dixie of Bedford, Thomas Moore and wife Pam of Avoca and Richard Moore and wife Angie of Shoals; one daughter, Carol Fish and husband John of Bedford; grandchildren, Anthony Moore and wife Robin, Brian Moore and wife Stacey, Matthew Moore and wife Heather, Terry Moore and wife Vanessa, Susan Furnace, Jennifer Smith and husband Justin, Michelle Gibson and husband James, Melissa Hampton and husband Jon and Kenny Fish; 25 great-grandchildren and one sister, Sil Bruce of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margie Moore; grandson, Christopher Moore; four brothers, George, John, Jean and Tom Moore; and two sisters, Doris Fowler and Florence Moore.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Bedford First Wesleyan Church, 2401 H St., in Bedford. Pastor Gordon Tilley officiating, being assisted by Francis Moore’s grandsons Pastor Anthony Moore and Matthew Moore. Burial will be follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the Bedford First Wesleyan Church.

Casketbearers will be Anthony Moore, Matthew Moore, Brian Moore, Terry Moore, Jon Hampton, Justin Smith and James Gibson.

Michael Daulton

Oct. 16, 1959 — Jan. 27, 2012

Michael Daulton, 52, of Bedford, died on Friday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Oct. 16, 1959, in Bedford, he was the son of Franklin Ross Daulton and Frances Mae (Beavers) Daulton.

He was a stonecutter and carver for several years.

He was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the Class of 1978.

Surviving are his parents, of Bedford; one son, Michael Daulton Jr., Bedford; one sister, Cindy Hunter, Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Beth Tomey.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dixon Chapel Cemetery, Leesville.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford.

Paul L. Fackler

May 30, 1921 — Jan. 29, 2012

Paul Leonard Fackler, 90, Rolling Meadows, Ill., died Sunday at his home.

He was born May 30, 1921, in Flaherty, Ky., to the late Thomas and Campsadel Fackler.

His late wife of 61 years, Barbara, passed away in 2011. Paul and Barbara were married on Feb. 11, 1950, in Chicago. They moved to Rolling Meadows in 1954 and to Bedford in 1971. They returned to Rolling Meadows in 1997.

Paul was a graduate of Flaherty High School. He proudly served as a Radioman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II and fought for his country at the Battle of Normandy.

He retired from Crane in 1986.

Paul was a past Grand Knight of the Columbus Council 1166. He was a member of the American Legion, St. Colette Church and the Rolling Meadows Senior Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Fackler Anderson of Naperville, Ill.; a son, David (Mary) Fackler of Lake Zurich, Ill.; five grandchildren, Megan (Ron), Amanda (Rick), Andrew, Adam and Allison; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Evan; a brother-in-law, Raymond (Nancy) Powell of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; daughter, Georgia; great-grandson, Benjamin; sisters, Elrino, Gertrude, Martha, Rose Mary and Rudell; and brothers, Joseph and Guy.

Funeral mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Colette Church. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.

Deborah Marik

Feb. 2, 1954 — Jan. 21, 2012

Deborah (Funk) Marik, 57, Spokane Valley, Wash., passed away Jan. 21 of cancer.

She was born in Bedford on Feb. 2, 1954, to Virginia Lee (Jenny) and Lee Funk. Debi graduated from Mitchell High School in 1972. An active quilter and crafter, she was active in her community.

The family had recently moved to Spokane Valley, Wash., from Sandpoint, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jenny Funk and her father, Lee Funk. She is survived by one brother, Steven Funk, of Mitchell; her husband of 32 years, Tom Marik, of Spokane Valley; her two sons, Michael Pershing and James Pershing; and six grandchildren.

Cremation was performed by Community Cremation Services, Spokane, Wash.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the Church of the Nazarene in Ponduray, Idaho.

Ermil Norman

Ermil Norman, 98, of Bedford, died at 5:15 p.m. on Friday at Garden Villa.

Born Nov. 11, 1913, in Heltonville, he was the son of Walter and Dessie (Sowder) Norman. He married Lola B. White on Feb. 17, 1940, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 2011.

Ermil retired after 60 years preaching at Central Church of Christ in Bedford and the Church of Christ in Brookston. He also worked nine years for General Motors.

Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Norman of Texas and Walter Leroy Norman of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Tracy Brown and Jennifer Warren both of Fort Wayne, Scott Norman, Darrin Norman and Nicole Norman all of Texas; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lola; three sisters, Ruby Wagner, Lenora Todd and Laverne Todd; two brothers, Clifford Norman and Irvin Norman.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Darryl Simon and Jack Beyers officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville.

Sheena Colleen Graves, 26, 638 Lawrenceport Main, passed away Thursday evening, following an automobile accident.

Born Jan. 29, 1985, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Steven and Lisa (Hopper) Graves.

Sheena was employed at Paoli Peaks. Following graduation in 2003 from Mitchell High School, she attended Ivy Tech.

Surviving are her mother, Lisa (Albert) Small of Mitchell; her father, Steven (Kristi Terrell) Graves of Mitchell; brother, Shane Graves of Mitchell; stepbrothers, Jeremy Small of Findley, Ohio and Kyle Gee of Bedford; stepsisters, Amber Small of Louisville, Ky., Audrey Gee of Bedford and Carrey (Shoults) Whalin of Orleans; grandmother, Betty Meadows of Mitchell; stepgrandparents, Charlie and Bonnie (Small) Huff of Hardinsburg; and several aunts and uncles

Kim Alan Hamilton, 52, passed away at 9:55 a.m. Saturday at Saint Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

He is survived by his mother and father, Shirley L. and Donald L. Briscoe of Mitchell with whom he made his home.

Born Aug. 7, 1959, in Washington County, he was an avid Purdue and Cincinnati Reds fan.

He was a member of Tulip Street Christian Church in Mitchell.

Surviving with his parents are his brother, Kevin (Cathy) Hamilton of Sardinia, Ohio; sisters, Diana (Larry) Caudell of Mitchell, Denise (Mark) Riker and Debbie L. Terrell of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews

Juanita V. Owens, 88, of Orleans, died Wednesday at her home.

She was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Oolitic, the daughter of Gilbert and Maude Reynolds Knight.

She was a homemaker.

She married James D. Owens Dec. 24, 1941, and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Joyce Ann Owens, who died April 15, 2005.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Charles Larmee of Louisville; two grandchildren, Charles Larmee and Michelle Larmee; and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Noah.

A private service was held Monday morning at Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

Virgil Kenneth Dorsett

Virgil Kenneth Dorsett, 83, passed away at 7:00 a.m. Friday at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 9, 1928, in French Lick, he was the son of John David and Mahala Jane (Hopper) Dorsett.

He retired from Lehigh Cement Company and was a farmer. Kenny had been a member of the Mitchell Lions Club and was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Stephen (Teri) Dorsett of Mitchell; grandchildren, Matthew Dorsett and Katie Kinder; great-grandson, Drew Kinder; the mother of his children, Vera Slaten of Mitchell; brother, John Dorsett of Bloomington; sisters, Eunice Weidman of Columbus and Mary Lou Clements of Martinsville; and stepsister, Phyllis Drummond.

His parents; son, Dennis Dorsett; brothers, Harry, Louis “Pat,” George, Glenn, Charles, and Howard David Dorsett; and sister, Lula Weidman, preceded him in death.

Timothy S. Emery

June 18, 1968 — Jan. 24, 2012

Timothy Sean McLaughlin Emery, 43, of Bloomington, passed away Tuesday at his residence.

He was born June 18, 1968, in Woodstock, Ill. The only thing larger than his heart was the amount of responsibilities he shouldered. He was a kind and loving son, devoted father and proud brother.

His brother Paul and He loved nothing better than to play basketball and share their love of food and fun. While growing up, Tim loved exploring a 30-acre farm west of Bedford. Tim spent many afternoons eating meals with and visiting neighbors, Helen and Alva Wagner.

He also spent many hours honing a lethal, long-range jump shot. By age four, Tim was a loyal Indiana University Basketball fan and watched every game on television. He graduated from BNL after attending the Webb School in Upland, Calif. Later he earned a degree from Indiana University and went on to become a licensed CPA.

Tim married Mandy Garrison on Oct. 13, 1990, and together they were loving parents to Katie, Eamon, and Carly, all of whom survive. His wife Mandy preceded him in death on April 7, 2001. Tim stayed true to her memory and never remarried. His sisters Joan and Jennifer also preceded him in death. In addition to his children, Tim is survived by his mother Marlene, his father Edward, his sister Natalie, his two brothers Christopher and Paul, and many other family members no less dear to him.

Tim spent more than a decade as a loyal accountant for Gooldy Food Equipment Services. His faith was expressed by loving God, his family, and his fellow man. In the course of his 43 years, Tim gave all that he had to give, and his loss will remain incalculable to all who knew him.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old State Road 37 Bloomington. Burial will follow at Judah Cemetery.

Norma R. Maze, 76, of Bedford, died at 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday at StoneBridge Health Campus.

Born July 20, 1935, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Leslie and Goldie (Trusty) Taylor. She married Robert Maze on Nov. 1, 1952, and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1984.

She retired as an assembler for RCA in Bloomington.

Survivors include one son, Robert Maze of Maryland; three grandsons, Michael Maze and Ben and Andrew Cross; a great-granddaughter, Madison Cross; a sister, Helen Turner of Florida; several nieces and nephews including Lanny Blanton and wife Sonja of Bedford and Brian Jones and wife Cathy of Lake Station, with whom she was especially close.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, June Jones and Virginia Bough; and one brother, Adrian Taylor.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Reno Bates officiating. Burial will follow.

Marjoria Martin

Marjoria F. Martin, 81, passed away at 6:42 p.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born March 26, 1930, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Henry and Ophia (Tincher) Hunsucker. She married Robert Wayne Martin Jan. 26, 1947, and he preceded her in death Feb. 12, 2007.

She had been employed at Green’s Drive-In, Noe’s Chicken House and the Red Rooster. Marge was a member of Bono United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Robert Michael Martin and Gary Lee Martin, both of Mitchell; daughter, Tammy J. Jones, Mitchell; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; grandson, Adam Martin; brother, Marshall Hunsucker; half-brother, Charles Hedrick; and half-sister, Geneva, preceded her in death.

Stephen Hostettler

Aug. 23, 1931 — Nov. 4, 2011

Stephen John Hostettler, Rear Admiral, USN Retired, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2011, in Torrance, Calif., after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Stephen began life on Aug. 23, 1931, the first born to Ernest and Frances Bays Hostettler in Evansville.

After a family move to California, he returned to Indiana in 1942 to work on his grandfather’s farm, and graduated from Bedford High School in 1949. A vice presidential appointment to the United States Naval Academy followed with Stephen’s graduation in 1953. He was married in that same year to Lucy Ann Ingalls of Bedford, to whom he stood beside as loyal and dedicated husband, father, and loving provider for 55 years.

Pursuing an esteemed naval career spanning 33 years in Surface Weapons command, Rear Admiral Hostettler commanded the USS Cochrane DDG-21 (1970-71), and the USS Halsey DLG/ CG-23 (1977-79). In 1979 he was appointed Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Korea and Director of U.N. Armistice Commission in Seoul, Korea. Returning to the U.S. in 1981, he was appointed Director of Surface Warfare Combat Systems, before being assigned Director of the Tomahawk SLCM, Joint Cruise Missile Project in 1982, accomplishing its deployment in 1984. Having been awarded such honors as the Bronze Star, Rear Admiral Hostettler retired in 1986. He entered the private sector as VP and Director of Programs and Engineering, Propulsion Division of Atlantic Research Corporation, in Gainesville, Va.

Upon retiring in 1991, Stephen and Lucy Ann enjoyed traveling with friends and family and the many cultural amenities of Washington D.C. until Lucy Ann’s passing in 2008.

Stephen is survived by his fiancé Myra Bearman of Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca.; daughter, Katherine; son, Stephen Jr. and his wife Valerie and two grandsons; three sisters, Mary Decker, Inez Fenton-Bays, Ann King, and brother, Fred Hostettler; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services to honor and celebrate this extraordinary man and distinguished Naval Officer will be at 11 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2012, at Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel, followed by a Full Honors Burial at Arlington National Cemetery.

Lester Compton

April 2, 1911 — Jan. 24, 2012

Lester Compton, 100, of Bedford, died at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Bedford.

Born April 2, 1911 in Neoga, Ill., he was the son of Orlan and Edna (Lawrence) Compton. He married Ida Flo King on Oct. 23, 1935, and she survives.

He graduated from Orleans High School in Orleans. He was a farmer.

He retired from Ingall’s Stone Mill, Bedford, where he worked as a night watchman and machinery maintenance man.

He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher for 20 years, and also a Deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Ida Flo Compton of Bedford; one daughter, Jeanette (Jerry) Smith of Palmetto, Fla.; one granddaughter, Angela Tyquingco of Clarksville, Tenn.; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Tyquingco and one great-grandson, Brendon Tyquingco, both of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, George Compton of Hammond, and Kenneth Compton of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Englewood Baptist Church, with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will be in Port William Cemetery.

Robert Norman, 82, of 206 Oolitic Road, Bedford, died at 4:31 p.m. on Wednesday at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Nov. 12, 1929, in Heltonville, he was the son of Earl and Eva (Sowders) Norman.

He was a physical education and health teacher in Oolitic and of the Protestant faith.

He was a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed traveling, music and his family.

Survivors include his lifelong companion, June Yeskie of Bedford; three sons, William, Troy and Pat Yeskie; a special buddy, Matthew Yeskie; three brothers, Junior Norman, Larry Norman and wife Brenda all of Heltonville, and Keith Norman and wife Joyce of Conroe, Texas; three sisters, Helen Richardson of Unionville, Joan Bailey and Colleen Perry both of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Harold, Dale and Paul; two brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law,

Allan G. ‘Mick’ Eckert

Nov. 2, 1937 — Jan. 23, 2012

Our beloved father, grandfather and husband, Allan G. “Mick” Eckert, CLU, ChFC, passed away in Bedford on Monday.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1937, in LaPorte, to Alvy and Edith (Lindburg) Eckert. He graduated from SanPierre High School, and then received several degrees from Ball State University.

He married Jolene (Jones) Eckert on July 17, 1998. He was previously married to Judy Eckert, the mother of his children.

He retired from teaching/coaching/principal/administration at West Central High School after several years of service. He then joined State Farm Insurance Companies in 1979, working in management, until becoming an agent.

Mick was involved in the local Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club and was an active member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, VFW, FOP and BPOE, where he served as the Exalted Ruler.

He is survived by three children, Allan Scott (RJ) Eckert of Wisconsin, Christopher (Pam) Eckert of Michigan, and Amy (Wayne) Gerst of Indiana; three grandchildren, Spencer and Delaney Gerst, and Aiden Eckert; sisters-in-law, Tina (Greg) Tyree, Kay (Robin) Miller, Sherry Holt, and Jennifer Haase; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother-in-law, Mark Jones, mother-in-law, Mable Jones, sister-in-law, Susan Collier, and great-nephew, Gage Pruett.

He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed and always remembered.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral home with Father Charlie Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Born July 31, 1959, in Logansport, he was the son of Perry and Carolyn Sue (Hatfield) Johnson. He married Diane Jones Nov. 14, 1980.

He was a truck driver and graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1978. He was a member of Praise Cathedral in Seymour.

Surviving are his wife, Diane Johnson of Mitchell; son, Daniel Walker Evan Johnson of Mitchell; his mother, Carolyn Sue Johnson of Bedford; and brothers, Dale Evan Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Perry Joseph Johnson of Leesville.

His father preceded him in death.

Tony Dale Spires, 56, of Bedford, died at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday at his residence.

Born May 24, 1955, in Bedford, he was the son of Runt Spires and Shirley (White) Spires Swartz.

He married Carrie Sykes Fitzgerald on June 23, 2011; she survives.

He was a stonecutter, having worked in several local mills. He was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge, and served in the National Guard, Bedford.

Surviving are his wife, Carrie Spires of Bedford; six sons, Jackie (Kelly) Spires of Bedford, John Spires, Jimmy Spires and Randy Peters, all of Texas, Joseph (Stephanie) Hignite and Stephen Fitzgerald, both Bedford; three daughters, Misty Deckard, Bedford; Tonya (Chris) Ferran, Bedford; and Jessica Spires, Texas; 18 grandchildren; four sisters, Cathy Baker, Tunnelton; Donna Spires, Mitchell; Stormi Swartz, Bedford; and Kristie Swartz, Bedford; three brothers, Ricky Spires, Danny “Bones” Spires, and David Swartz, all of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Linda Jamison and Debbie Shelton; and two brothers, Bobbie Spires and Randy Spires.

Thomas Edward Benham, age 52, of Bedford, died at 12:32 a.m. on Sunday at home surrounded by his wonderful family and friends.

Born on Jan. 16, 1960, in Bedford, he was the son of Harold and Eileen (Maynard) Benham. He married Debra Biszantz Macy on July 2, 1993, and she survives.

Tom was the owner of Aircut Abrasive Blasting from 2002 to 2012. He worked for Architectural Stone Sales as a Journeyman Stone Cutter from 1976 to 2002.

He was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford.

Survivors, who were all at his home with him when he embarked on his next adventure, include his wife, Debra of Bedford; his children, Amy Wolfe and husband Brian of Bedford, Lorie Hammond and husband Chad of Bedford, Thomas Benham II of Bedford; stepchildren, James Macy and fiancé Stephenie of Bloomington, and Michael Macy of Bedford; two grandsons, Bryce Wolfe and Carson Hammond; his mother, Eileen Benham of Bedford; his sisters, Elaine Wykoff and husband Roger of Bedford, Maureen Benham and Gary Jones of Denver, Colo., Nancy Goode and husband James of Jefferson City, Mo., and Andrea Parker and husband Chuck of Mitchell; his brothers, William (Bill) Benham and wife Mary Pat of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Alan Benham of Bedford; his nephews, Scott Wykoff and fiancé Cindy Fender of Bedford, Cary Wykoff and wife Marlisa of Bedford; his niece, Lisa Henderson and husband Kevin of Mitchell; many more nieces and nephews; the mother of his children, Ellen Staggs; his father and mother-in-law, Max and Rilda Biszantz of Greenwood; and his friends, Bob and Leesa Fiddler, and Lynn Masterson.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vanessa Jane Benham, and his father, Harold Benham.

Tom was the adventurous type and self-admitted adrenaline junky. Tom loved racing his late model race car; then in more recent years, his passion shifted gears. His zest for living brought him more success as he achieved his Class D Professional Skydiving License. Tom had nearly 1,000 jumps of every type imaginable to his credit.

Tom was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsmen’s Club, and also the Sons of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in Hopkins Cemetery in Needmore.

Wanda Nell Starr, age 80, of Bedford, died at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Garden Villa, Bedford.

Born March 23, 1931 in Corsicana, Texas, she was the daughter of Wesley and Ina (Johnson) McClintock.

She married Charles Wayne Starr on June 30, 1951; and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1987.

She was a retired office manager with Mills Market, Bedford. She then worked in the office for CWR Vending (Tom’s Sales), Bedford.

She was a graduate of Vandale High School, Vandale, Ark. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church; and she was Founder of Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services.

Surviving are one daughter, Trena Bond of Bedford; and one son, Charles “Bud” (Lisa) Starr of Bedford; three grandchildren, Staci (Nick) Finney of Whiteland, Britton Starr of Bloomington, and J.J. Starr of Indianapolis; and one great-grandson, Cooper Finney of Whiteland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; and two sisters.

There will be no calling.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date, and there will be a private burial in Green Hill Cemetery.

He worked for Indiana Limestone Company for 19 years, and also in the construction industry.

He was a member of Gullets Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his two sons, Bob (Donna) Hamilton of Bloomington and Roger (Kathy) Hamilton of Bedford; one daughter, Ronda (Gary) Mitchell of Springville; five granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Naomi Parkes.

Donna Lucille Beacher, 60, Mitchell, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Sunday at her residence.

Born March 22, 1951, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Daniel F. and Georgia Mildred (Stevens) Hardman. She married Charles Lambert Beacher July 30, 1976.

She had been employed as a teacher’s aide at Mitchell and DePaul Schools and was a 1969 graduate of Mitchell High School.

She was an advocate for children with dyslexia, and a baton instructor for several years.

Donna enjoyed genealogy and published a book on the Stevens Family.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Lambert Beacher of Mitchell; daughter, Stormi Lynn Reynolds of Mitchell; and son, Daniel Charles Beacher of Mitchell.

Her parents and brother, Daniel Hardman, preceded her in passing.

Born April 11, 1940, in Monroe County, he was the son of Virgil and Ruby (Taylor) Mikels.

He had worked as a security guard for Wetterau Foods and was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church, Bedford; an avid football and baseball player and was one of the founding members of the Bedford Girls Club.

Smith of Bedford; two daughters, Lynn Board (Daniel) of Indianapolis and Kim Hornback (Doug) of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Michael Forsyth (Allyson) of Connecticut, Jennifer Forsyth of Louisville, Austyn Board (fiance’ Jay Amos) of Indianapolis, and Cole Board of Indianapolis; one great-grandchild, Matthew Forsyth; one brother, P.J. Merlin was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post No. 250, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

He retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane.

He was a member of Bride of Christ Fellowship, Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM, and a graduate of Huron High School in 1951.

Surviving are children, Ryan Eric (Melanie) King of Bedford and Jolene (Claude, Jr.) Rayhill of Mitchell; stepchildren, Jacquelyn (John) Cleek and Dana King, both of Mitchell and Aaron (Jamie) Kelsey of Madison; a brother, Herman (Linda) King of Mitchell; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

His parents; wife; and daughter, Doris Evelyn Hill, preceded him in death.

Ronald Lee Daab, 77, of Bedford, formerly of Ellettsville, passed away at 10:53 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012, at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital.

Born on December 1, 1934, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Clyde J. and Beulah (Clements) Daab. Ron was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1955-1961. Ron retired from General Electric after 30 years of service. He was loved by his family and friends and will be missed greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Patricia “Pat” (Kennedy) Daab.

Ron was blessed and loved by seven children. Sons, Timothy W. Daab and wife Lisa (Smith) of Bedford, and Sean F. Daab of Arizona, and Joseph L. Daab of Ellettsville; daughters, Marsha Williams and husband Jason of Monticello, Kendra (Susie) DuMond of Bloomington, TeAnna L. Paulsell of Phoenix, AZ, and Rebecca E Daab of Gosport. The Rev. Herman K. Noll, 81, Paoli, died at 9:28 a.m. on Tuesday at his home.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1930, in Cocalico, (Lancaster County) Pa., to John and Ada Kilhefner Noll. He married Marilyn Shuey on April 18, 1951, and she survives.

He was a minister of the Gospel for over 50 years in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and Indiana.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving with his wife, Marilyn Noll of Paoli; are one daughter, Donna Sexton and husband, Ray of Bedford; two sisters, Anna Mate Fittery of Ono, Pa., and Dorothy Gingrich of Lebanon, Pa.; one brother, Lloyd Noll of Myerstown, Pa.; two grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan Dillman and wife Suzanne of Saline, Mich., and the Rev. Ryan Dillman and wife Lindsay of Mitchell; one stepgrandson and wife, Ray Sexton (Jamie) of Salem; three great-granddaughters, Kathryn, Meghan and Madison Dillman; and two step-great-granddaughters, Ashlan and Kirsten Sexton.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Dry; and three brothers, Willard, John and Robert Noll.

Carol Fay (Evans) Erwin, 64, of Muncie, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Born July 28, 1947, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Roy Moss and Martha Ellen (Temple) Evans. She married Thomas Erwin of Muncie in May of 1966.

She is a graduate of Orleans High School with the Class of 1965. She completed her degree in cosmetology in 1967 and worked as a hair stylist for several years. Carol also worked at Ball State University in the Residence Hall Dining Service and later retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles in Muncie. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Muncie. Carol had a great love for music, especially bluegrass, country, gospel and praise.

Surviving are her husband Tom of Muncie; two children, Linda Kay Erwin of Muncie and Thomas Erwin Jr. of Yorktown; three grandchildren, Jordan Faye, Jessie and Thomas Erwin Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Emma Lynn Pierce; siblings, Ethel Grace Evans and Gladys (John) Ponzini, all of Bedford, and Larry (Linda) Evans of Paoli; a brother-in-law, John Bagley of Indianapolis; and sisters-in-law, Rosie Evans of Mitchell and Shirley Kielhorn of Orleans.

Her parents, Roy and Ellen Evans; brothers, Harley Haskel Evans, Dan Leland Evans, Gerald L. Evans, Cletis Ray Evans; and sister Edna Bagley preceded her in death.

Anna Marie Wesner, 81, of French Lick, passed away Wednesday at Medco Health and Rehabilitation in French Lick.

She was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Dubois County, to Perry Edgar and Iva Hester (Reynolds) Jones. She married Herbert “Gene” Wesner on Oct. 6, 1947, and he preceded her in death.

She is retired from Kimball Corporation and was a member of Mount Lebanon Church.

Survivors include five sons, Ron (Mary Alice) Wesner of Mitchell, Jim Wesner of Loogootee, John (Becky) Wesner of Fulda, and Richard and Anthony (Gina) Wesner, all of French Lick; two daughters, Laura (Mike) Reynolds of West Baden Springs and Shirley (Tony) Starks of Evansville; three brothers, Ernest (Josie) Jones and Ezra (Ruth) Jones, all of Indianapolis, and Oscar (Ruth) Jones of Dubois; two sisters, Sarah Smith of Jackson, Ala., and Lois (Clifford) Emmons of Hillham; two sisters-in-law, Rose Anderson of Indianapoli and Joan Jones of Fishers; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, William and Carl Wesner; one daughter, Carolyn

Branham; and three brothers, Vernon, Clyde and Dale Jones.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home in French Lick. Burial will be in Paoli Community Cemetery.

Rev. Herman K. Noll

The Rev. Herman K. Noll, 81, Paoli, died at 9:28 a.m. on Tuesday at his home.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1930, in Cocalico, (Lancaster County) Pa., to John and Ada Kilhefner Noll. She married Marilyn Shuey on April 18, 1951, and she survives.

He was a minister of the gospel for over 50 years in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and Indiana.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving with his wife, Marilyn Noll of Paoli; are one daughter, Donna Sexton and husband, Ray of Bedford; two sisters, Anna Mate Fittery of Ono, Pa., and Dorothy Gingrich of Lebanon, Pa.; one brother, Lloyd Noll of Myerstown, Pa; two grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan Dillman and wife Suzanne of Saline, Mich., and the Rev. Ryan Dillman and wife Lindsay of Mitchell; one stepgrandson and wife, Ray Sexton (Jamie) of Salem; three great-granddaughters, Kathryn, Meghan and Madison Dillman; and two step-great-granddaughters, Ashlan and Kirsten Sexton.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Dry; and three brothers, Willard, John and Robert Noll.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Paoli Wesleyan Church in Paoli. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memorial Gardens in Bedford.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the church.

Robert Steven Hignite

Robert Steven Hignite of Bedford passed away in his home on Jan. 12, 2012.

He was born in Washington County, Indiana, to James Robert and Mildred Hignite. His father and two sons, Adam and Allen Hignite preceded him in death.

He graduated from Shawswick High School in 1965. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall in Bedford.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie. They were married for 26 years. He is survived by one brother, James M. Hignite of Palm Bay, Fla.; and two sisters, Constance D. Perry of Westfield and Nancy E. Fleck of Jasper. He is also survived by five children, Lori Thacker of Indianapolis, Debbie Williams of Bedford, Laura Harrison, Del Williams and Chris Bjurstrom of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He had 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at the Bedford Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 6264 Sandpit Road, Bedford at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Gorman Standley

Gorman “Bud” Standley, 85, of Mitchell, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Mitchell, the son of Gordon and Laura Crane Standley.

He graduated from Mitchell High School with the Class of 1946. He retired in 1989 as a supervisor from the former Carpenter Body Works in Mitchell. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Bud was a member of the Orleans United Methodist Church, the Mitchell American Legion, Cecil C. Martin Post No. 250, and was a 60-year member of the Orleans Masonic Lodge No. 153 F&AM. He was a member of the Mitchell V. F. W.

He married Patricia West, June 26, 1948, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Gail Schikora and husband Rick of Beavercreek, Ohio; a son, Aaron, of Bedford; a granddaughter, Sarah Beth Moore and husband Bobby; five great-grandchildren, Taivon, Trevor, Sophia Gail, Caitlin and Quinton; dear family friend, Sabrina Lawyer; and three sisters, Wilda Wells of Mitchell, Wallacia Shantz of Bedford and Wuanita Holmes of Mitchell.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Brother Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Orleans, with military rites by the Mitchell American Legion, Cecil C. Martin Post No. 250.

There will be visitation from 3-7 p.m. Friday with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m.

Gene A. Atkinson, 90, passed away at 6:55 a.m. Friday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Nov. 27, 1921, in Orange County, he was the son of Clarence Ray “Hop” and Nellie Lorraine (Cornwell) Atkinson. He married Betty June Mayden April 13, 1941, and they were married 63 years. She preceded him in death Oct. 4, 2004. His second marriage was to Allien (Magner) Bugh August 2005, and she preceded him in death Nov. 30, 2008.

He retired from Carpenter Body Works and was a 1939 graduate of Paoli High School.

Gene was a U.S. Army veteran of the World War II and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Paoli Masonic Lodge No. 119 F&AM, and the Mitchell Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are children, Bradley Gene (Cheryl) Atkinson of Centerville, Jerry Wayne (Carol) Atkinson of Mitchell, Patricia Ray (Monte Rager) Atkinson of Orleans, Amy Lynn (Rob) Parker of Mitchell and Charlotte Rose (Buddy Kirkman) Atkinson of Bedford; a brother, James Lee Atkinson of Bedford; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

His parents; both wives; and son, Eric Lee Atkinson, preceded him in death.

Nancy C. Burlington, 70, passed away at 12:14 p.m. Thursday, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Jan. 18, 1941, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Jesse and Mary Frances (Cole) Lane. She married Estel David Burlington Aug. 12, 1960, and he preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1996.

She had been employed at Spring Mill Inn and attended the Bride of Christ Fellowship.

Surviving are daughters, Tina Harris of Mitchell, Terry (Duane) Edmonson of Mitchell and Tonya (Trever) Cooper of Mitchell; a brother, Jesse Lane of Mitchell, a sister, Lettie Coffman of Bedford; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; brothers, Herschel, Roy, and Elwood Lane; and sister, Betty Kautz, preceded her in death.

Catherine “Anne” Couch, 51, of Columbus, died at 3:27 a.m. on Tuesday at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Center.

Born Oct. 3, 1960, in Tucson, Ariz., she was the daughter of William H. and Catherine M. (Leahy) Sears. She married Michael G. Couch on Jan. 17, 2003, and he survives.

She was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School with the class of 1978. She graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in Columbus in 2010.

She was employed at Visteon until she retired in 2008. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford and enjoyed remodeling houses.

Survivors include her husband, Michael of Columbus; a son, Kent Meinert of Bloomington; a brother, William “Kip” Sears and wife Wendy of California; and a stepson, Darryl G. Couch of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Steve Terry and Dale Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Joy Helen Hacker, 81, of 1314 Oak Manor, Bedford, died at 11:25 p.m. on Monday at St. Catherine Regional Hospital in Charlestown.

Born May 25, 1930, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Everett and Maggie (Craig) Brock. She married Robert C. Hacker on May 31, 1957, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1999.

She retired from RCA in Bloomington and was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church. She was an avid mushroom hunter and cook.

Gary J. Chase, 60, of 5031 U.S. Hwy. 50 East, Bedford, died Tuesday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born Feb. 7, 1951, in Bedford, he was the son of Joe and Delilia (Myers) Chase. He married Sheila Barnett and she survives.

He was a maintenance worker at U.S. Gypsum and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila of Bedford; two sons, Brandon Chase of Chicago and Ryan Chase of Bedford; a daughter, Lindsay Chase of Ellettsville; four grandchildren, Gwennyth and Aidan Thompson and Owen and Evalyne Chase; one brother, Mike Chase of Bedford; two sisters, Elaine Tarr and Lu Ann Chase, both of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rita D. Irwin

Rita Diane Irwin, 60, of Bedford, went home to be with her Lord at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Born July 26, 1951, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harold and Dolly (Sowders) Deckard. Rita married her best friend and love of her life, Danny J. Irwin on Nov. 5, 1988.

Rita worked at Core Nursing Home and General Electric until her retirement. She volunteered at Spring Mill State Park as a historic re-enactor for several years.

Rita loved her family and her grandchildren were the greatest joy in her life.

Rita was a member of the Mitchell Church of God where she enjoyed working with the youth. She made several trips to the Appalachian Mountains with Life Mission Ministries where she prepared and fed the families who came in search of assistance. She loved to crochet and made afghans, baby blankets and hats for cancer patients. Little did she know that, one day, she herself would become a victim of cancer.

Survivors include her husband, Danny; her parents, Harold and Dolly; children, Dan (Nicole) Irwin and Lisa (Jim) Slone; grandchildren, Casey, Caitlyn and Cameron Irwin and Tanner and Kendall Slone; brothers, Robert (Nancy) Deckard and Bill (Janet) Deckard; a sister, Melanie Deckard; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and her fur babies, Mikey, Pete and Sissy.

Rita was preceded in death by her in-laws, George and Elsie Irwin; her grandparents, Everett and Truly Sowders and Ora and Goldie Deckard; and her brother, Rusty Deckard.

Alice Lively Keller, 80, of Bedford, died at 5:35 a.m. on Tuesday at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born May 30, 1931 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Clyde O. and Dorothy J. (Whitted) Lively. She married David Keller on June 18, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2005.

She retired as a driving examiner for the State of Indiana.

She was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church, an avid NASCAR fan and Jeff Gordon’s biggest fan.

Survivors include five daughters, Patty Dzmura and husband Michael of Fort Worth, Texas, Connie Justus and husband David of Gilbert, Ariz., Ann Jones and husband David of Bloomington, Mary Todd and husband Dan of Heltonville, and Janet White and husband Mark of Holly Lake, Texas; six grandchildren, Amy Crow, Ann Simmons, Eric Flinn, Andy Flinn, Jill Garrels and Abby Godsey; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Lively of Linton; her beloved cat, Adji; and her dear friend, Betty Turner.

Joyce Dawn Smith Lowry, passed away Jan. 4, 2012, at the age of 78.

Dawn was born on Sept. 12 1933, in Mitchell to Orin and Bertha Smith.

She was an honor roll student at Mitchell High School, played in the band, was active in the First Christian Church, 4-H, Girl Scouts, Tri Kappa Sorority and worked in her father’s store, Smith Paint and Appliances.

As valedictorian of the Mitchell High School class of 1951, she earned a four-year tuition scholarship to Indiana State Teacher’s College (now Indiana State University), was an honor student and received a BS degree.

Dawn started her teaching career at Clay High School and Eisenhower Junior High in Oregon, Ohio. She also taught in Toledo, Ohio, Petersburg, Mich., and Denver, Colo.

She was an assistant buyer for three years for LaSalle’s stores.

Surviving her is her husband of 23 years, William Lowry; stepchildren, Bill II, Jennifer and Annette (Don); also special daughter, Qing Mei (Jin Wang) and their daughter, granddaughter, Cristal; as well as other cousins and relatives. Neal Harold Roach, 55, of Brunswick, Ga., died Saturday at Southeast Georgia Regional Health Center.

Born April 15, 1956, in Indianapolis, he was the son of James and Imogene (Denny) Roach.

He was a carpenter and worked at the Home Depot in Brunswick.

He graduated from Edgewood High School with the class of 1974 and was a member of the Camden Baptist Church in St. Mary’s, Ga.

Survivors include his parents of Orleans; a sister, Sandy Adams and husband Tony of Paris Crossing; two brothers, James Edward Roach and wife Pat of Conroe, Texas, and Terry Roach and wife Teresa of Missouri; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was born May 31, 1976, in Wabash, the son of Joseph Dee and Dolores Bedford Hale Barnes. He resided most of his life in the Madison area and had lived in California for the past seven months.

He was formerly employed with Bowen Construction at the IKEC power plant and Jack’s Automotive in Madison.

He loved music, especially the Grateful Dead, going on tour with the Grateful Dead, fishing and being with kids, especially family and friends.

Survivors include his mother, Dolores Bedford Hale Barnes; his sister, Heather M. Hale; his niece, Justice Marie Watkins, all of Lexington; uncles and aunts, Steve and Linda Hale of Bedford, Brenda and Scott Shaffer of Kingwood, Texas, Don and Lois Sebanc of Plainfield and Brent and Iris Clark of Indianapolis; and cousins, Danny Hall, Jason Ellot, Dillon Shaffer, Carter Shaffer, Mike Hale and Emma Hale.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Dee Hale; his grandparents, Oral H. Boode and Virginia Lee “Ginger” Hale and David L. and Margie Bedford.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, with Pastor Steve Hale and Heather M. Hale officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison.

Audrey Buher Day, 92, of Bedford passed away at 4:13 p.m. Friday at Johnson Christian Village.

Born July 28, 1919, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Howard Logan and Faye (Jackson) Buher. She married William Russell Day on Dec. 24, 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1987.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Bedford.

She worked as a seamstress at M. Fine and Sons, was a Pink Lady volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital for many years and was a former member of the Womens Department Club.

Audrey was a very kind, compassionate, giving and loving lady who will be missed by all.

Survivors include one son, Berry Day and wife Barbara of Bedford; one daughter, Linda White and husband Charles of Mitchell; one son-in-law: Marvin Clark of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, Cheryl Highland, Michael and Trent White, Tricia Riggen, Tim, Greg and Johnathan Day, and Kyle Clark; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Carol Clark; five brothers, Abe, Claude, Ivan, Chuck and Andy; and one sister, Bernice Whalen.

She graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1946 and was a member of Dunn Hospital Pink Ladies.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Wagoner (Woodrow) of Mitchell; one son, Stephen Bartlett (Lois) of Williams; three grandchildren, Laura Williams (Michael) of Franklin, Aaron Wagoner (Kristina) of Springville and Katelin Wagoner of Anderson; and one great-granddaughter, Adelyn Williams.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1925, in Franklin, Ky., to William Ross and Gracie (Odell) Summers. Bill married Mary (Edwards) Summers on Dec. 29, 1942, in Bedford and she survives.

He attended Limestone Baptist Church in Bedford.

Bill worked many years at Bill’s Auto Store in Bloomington and Bedford, he also worked at R St. Grocery in Bedford.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years Mary Summers of Bedford; his children, Lonnie Summers and wife Elaine, Connie Harrison and husband Ron, Rhea Dawn Summers, Billy Summers and wife Donna and Jim Summers, all of Bedford; his grandchildren, Amy Riso, Ron Harrison, Stacey King, Jason Summers, Tanner Summers; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Kay Summers; two grandchildren, Stevie Alan Lee and Tiffany Summers Terrell; one great-grandchild, Hailey Rae Terrell; three brothers, Ed, George and Jack Summers; and three sisters, Mabel Hyatt, Ova Baxter and Catherine Lynn.

Eugene “Rabbit” Walters, 81, of 1716 24th Street, Bedford, died Friday, January 6, 2012, at the St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born October 4, 1930, he was the son of Albert and Laura (Stigall) Walters. He married Mildred Edington on April 8, 1950, and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2004. He later married Martha Glasgow on March 1, 2008, and she survives. He retired from General Motors in Bedford. He was a member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church, a member of the UAW Local #440 and a member of the Lawrence County Saddle Club. He raised rabbits, was an avid horseman, an artist, and he enjoyed riding dirt bikes and fishing. After his retirement, he owned Rabbit Transit Trucking Company and Rabbit’s Lawncare, and he drove a truck for the Times-Mail.

Survivors include his wife Martha of Bedford; two sons: Charles Walters and his wife Peggy of Bedford, and Greg Walters and his wife Sherry of Bedford; two stepdaughters: Rita Euhl and her husband Robert, and Shelia Luttrell and her husband Terry of Bedford; one stepson: Jeff Glasgow and his wife Lora of Bedford; four granddaughters: Amy Brothers and her husband Mark of Mitchell, Amanda Oktavec and her husband Joe of Bedford, Starr Anna Walters and her fiance Erik Eiteljorge of Bedford, and Reva Diehl and her fiance Brandon Yother; several great grandchildren and great great-grand children; and one nephew Dewayne Walters of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one brother, Robert Walters, his twin sister, Imogene Walters, and twin siblings, Buddy and Sis.

Surviving with his wife, Elaine, are three daughters: Melissa Hackney and her husband Dave of Leesville, Jamie Williams and her husband Stan of Bloomington, and Geri James and her husband Robert of Bedford; two sons: Scott Allen, and Josh Allen and his fiancee Jennifer Smith, all of Heltonville; six grandchildren: Tyler McGlocklin, Jacob Perry, Chase Allen, Mikala Hagg, Nathan Williams and Evan Williams; one sister: Janet Fleetwood and her husband Donnie; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary Louise Lawson

Mary Louise Lawson (Horton) went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 3, 2012. Her loving family had surrounded her with prayers and singing and they all know and believed that in an instant her body was healed and she was sitting at the Master’s feet. Mary Louise was born to Rosey Ann (Reynolds) and Chester Field Horton on February 8, 1938.

She is preceded in death by both parents, a sister Jewell Arnell, and her beloved nephew Robert Horton. She is survived by her children: Jacqulyne (Tom) Booker of Bloomington, IN, Susan (Roy) Chambers of Norman, IN, and Ronnie Sipes of Bloomington, IN; her grandchildren: Amy (Jamie) Dirrim of Avon, IN, Joshua (Ann) Booker of St. Petersburg, FL, Brandi (Jared) Scott of Oolitic, IN, Alyssa (Austin) May of Bloomington, IN, and Matthew (Timber) Chambers of Norman IN; great-grandchildren: Abigail Lauren Dirrim, Emma McKenzie Dirrim, Lily Renea Scott, McKenzie Grace May and Matt and Timber’s baby due in June 2012; siblings: Dale (Loretta) Horton, Shirley Sipes, Lois Bennett, and Becky (Jeff) Calabrese, all of Bloomington, IN, and Helen Howard of Seattle, WA; and several loving nieces and nephews who really loved their Aunt Louise.

She is also survived by many wonderful caregivers who were her Golden Living family for the past 6 1⁄2 years who took excellent care of her when she was no longer able to care for herself. Mary Louise loved her family more than anything and her children, grandchildren and siblings have so many happy memories, she was known as Nana to the grandchildren and Great Nana to the great grandchildren. Mary Louise was blessed with the gift of music — she played the piano by ear and could play any song she heard. She also played the guitar and wrote songs and poems before illness ravaged her body. She could draw beautiful drawings and loved to dance and sing and have her picture taken. Those who knew Mary, knew that she had the most kind and gracious heart and she was known to give whatever she had to others at her own expense if someone else needed it … food, clothing, it didn’t matter — if she saw need in someone else she gave what she had to them. Her children feel that she taught them what real grace, kindness and caring really is and it’s a gift that is irreplaceable. Mary Louise will be greatly missed by her family, but because of God’s grace and promise of eternal life her family all know they will be reunited one day in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Community Kitchen of Bloomington, which provides meals to those less fortunate. Private graveside burial was done on January 5 and a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at Mount Calvary Baptist Church at 3900 S. Snoddy Road in Bloomington on Saturday, January 14, at 4:30 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Borden officiating. A dinner will be served after the celebration of life at the church and all are invited to join the family.

Jane P. Livesey

Jane Pennington Livesey, of Houston, died Wednesday in Pagosa Springs, Colo., following a 20-month battle with brain cancer. She was born in Greeley, Colo., on Sept. 19, 1954, to Dean and Carol Pennington.

She is survived by her father and stepmother, Dean and Wanda Pennington of Bloomington; a brother George; her loving husband of 38 years, Graham; three daughters, Sarah Morrison and husband Hugh and their three children, Rebecca, Aidan, and Leah; Emma Fullilove and husband Chris and their daughter, Clara; and Rachel White and husband Marshall and their daughter, Lily; as well as many other relatives.

Much of Jane’s early life was spent overseas, primarily in Guatemala and Tripoli, Libya, where she attended the Oil Company School, then Wheelus AFB High School before moving with her parents back to their home in Indiana in 1970, graduating from Bedford High School in 1972.

In 1972, while visiting her parents in Lagos, Nigeria, she met her husband-to-be, Graham. She and Graham were married on Jan. 5, 1974, in Bloomington. They lived in Italy through most of 1974, then moved to Calgary, Alberta, until 1980, where their two oldest daughters were born. In 1980, they moved to Denver, where their youngest daughter was born. The family moved to Houston in 1989, and Jane and Graham were visiting their youngest grandchild in Colorado at the time of Jane’s death.

After bringing up her children, Jane became a nurse and worked 15 years as an operating room nurse. She was planning to become a geriatric nurse practitioner and nursing instructor and received her MS in nursing from University of Texas three months after her diagnosis with brain cancer.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 14, at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston.

Abbie Dean Heitger, 92, of Fort Myers, FL, died Wednesday.

She was born June 15, 1919, in Lawrence County, the daughter of the late George and Norine (Evans) Heitger.

She graduated from Bedford High School, St. Mary of the Woods College and received a Master’s degree in library science from Indiana University.

She had been a secretary at the Crane Naval Ammunition Depot during World War II and later at the University of Chicago and at radio station WBIW in Bedford.

After receiving her library degree, she worked as a library consultant, becoming the head of the extension division of the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis, retiring in 1977.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford.

She was born Jan. 20, 1918, in the Erie community of Lawrence County, the daughter of Thomas R. and Nellie G. (Ramsey) Bair. She married Robert M. Brown on Oct. 21, 1938, in Brownstown, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1965.

Alice was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the class of 1937. She retired fro,m the former Wells Shop of Bedford.

During her life she attended the Erie Methodist Church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford.

Surviving are her son, Robert Larry Brown and wife Ann of Bedford; her grandson, Brett M. Brown and wife Keri of Indianapolis; her granddaughter, Erin Brown Sherrill and husband John of Bedford; her great-grandchildren, Victoria “Tori” Brown and Austin Brown of Indianapolis, and Reece, Gavin, Miley and Kyler Sherrill, all of Bedford; one sister, Mary A. Born May 6, 1925, in Bedford, he was the son of Eathel M. Fish Sr. and Grace Anderson Fish Starr. He married Freida M. Duncan on Nov. 23, 1946, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Bedford High School, class of 1943; and attended Indiana State University.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Bedford, where he was an Elder, trustee, and secretary of the board. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran.

He was also a member of the NLEA, ISTA, NEA, the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, U.S. Power Squadron, and UAW Local 440.

He served on the Bedford Housing Authority, and Bedford Parks Boards.

He was employed at GM Powertrain for 20 years; was co-owner of Fish Marine in Bedford for 10 years; was a machine trades teacher at the NLCS Vocational School from 1966-1990; and was a realtor with Jay Donaldson Agency.

Surviving are his wife, Freida M. Fish of Bedford; two sons, Roger W. (Lorena) Fish of Superior, Colo., and Rex R. (Melinda) Fish of Bedford; one brother, Donald D. (Barbara) Fish of Bedford, IN; eight grandchildren, Allison (Brian) Walsh of Lake Forest, Ill.; Kathryn Fish of Bedford, Elizabeth (Brian) Parrott of Bloomington, Heather Turner of Houston, Texas, Robert Fish of Milwaukee, Wis., Joseph Fish of Columbus, Ohio, Brad (Heather) Fish of Aurora, and Andrew Fish of Superior, Colo.; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Victor D. Fish in 2009; one brother, Bill Fish in 1994; and one sister, Anita Thomason Loachridge in 2007.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, at the First Christian Church in Bedford, with the Rev. Bob Dailey officiating.

Friends may call from 2–9 p.m. on Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, and again from 11 a.m. to the service on Friday at the church.

His grandchildren and their spouses will serve as pall bearers.

Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Steven D. McFarland, 50, passed away at 8:28 a.m. Sunday at Indiana University Health Paoli Hospital.

Born Feb. 3, 1961, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Samuel Dwight and Elva Mae (Conner) McFarland. He married Cathy Phipps June 3, 1994.

He was a stonecutter at Hoosier Cut Stone.

Surviving are his wife, Cathy McFarland of Orleans; daughters, Ashley (Wayne) Holt, Michelle (Russell) Ingle, Mary Ann (Larry) Knight and JoAnn (Steve) Shaw, all of Orleans; stepson, Cody White of Garland, Texas; brothers, Sam (Kathy) McFarland of Orleans, Scott McFarland of Mitchell and Shawn (Valerie) McFarland of Indianapolis; sisters, Betty Pruett and Kathy Kirk, both of Mitchell, and Sandra Bambusch of Salem; and grandchildren, Cameron and Gage Holt, R.J. Dustin, Brandon, and Caleb Ingle, Autumn and Alyssa Grissom, Bryan, Brandon, and Brooklyn Knight, Breanna amd Hanna Shaw and Marleigh, Mia, and Belle White.

His parents preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Mike Hester officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home.

Robert Robinson, 69, of Bedford, died at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday in Louisville.

Born March 31, 1942, in Sand Gap, Ky., he was the son of W.F. and Fannie (Markham) Robinson. He married Linda Diana Tuddy on Sept. 3, 2000; and she survives.

He was a lifelong truck driver, last working for Burress Trucking, Dale. He was of Christian Faith.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Diana Robinson of Bedford; three sons, Donnie Robinson, Matthew Robinson and Joshua Robinson, all of Tennessee; two stepsons, Frankie Batchelor and fiance´ Brandy Baker, of Bedford, and Ronnie Rogers of Salem; one stepdaughter, Rita Kay (Robert) Johnson of Kentucky; one grandson, Gavyn Batchelor of Mitchell; two granddaughters, Jamahlyn Campbell and Natasha Brasher, both of Kentucky; five brothers, Dennis (Jane) Robinson of Florida, Ned (Freddie) Robinson of Richmond, Colonel (Janet) Robinson of Mitchell, Roy Robinson of Indianapolis and Charlie (Vicky) Robinson of Berea, Ky.; one sister, Carol Harrison of Berea, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sarah Harrison; and brother, Mark Robinson.

Marjorie M. Quackenbush

Marjorie Maxine Quackenbush, 84, of Bedford passed away on Sunday following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born Aug. 19, 1927, in Mitchell, she was the eldest daughter of Lyle and Grace Ruby (Greer) Franklin. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1945.

Marjorie married Jerry Kenneth Quackenbush from Bedford, owner of The ‘R’ Street Grocery. Married over 60 years, they had a long, happy life together.

She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bedford where she taught Sunday school, was active in a women’s circle and helped annually with the church bazaar. Marjorie was also an active member of Kappa Kappa Sigma social sorority for many years.

She also worked at the R Street Grocery alongside her husband. She loved needlework, reading, and gardening. She adored her family.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Kenneth Quackenbush of Bedford; daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Steve Bower of Columbia, S.C., Martha and J.R. Holmes of Bloomington and Nancy and Rex Bennett of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Holmes, Meredith (Holmes) Johnson, Katelyn Bennett, Hannah Bennett, Lindsay Bower, Stephanie Bower and Caroline Bower.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Helen Louise Hicks and Margaret Spaulding.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Beth Ann Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.

Roger M. Ikerd, 48, of Bedford, died at 8 a.m. Sunday at his residence.

Born May 31, 1963, in Bedford, he was the son of Frank and Janet (Helton) Ikerd.

He was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. He was previously employed with the Bedford Street Department.

Surviving are his mother, Janet Ikerd of Bedford; two brothers, Steven (Debbie) Ikerd and Jeff Ikerd, both of Bedford; and one sister, Sandy (Alan) Mills of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Joan Myers

Wilma Joan Myers, 63, of Bloomington passed away on Friday at her residence.

She was born on July 3, 1948, in Monroe County and was the daughter of Loren and Louise (Byers) Moser. She graduated from Smithville High School in 1966 and worked in the Bloomington area most of her life.

Joan loved being around people and for several years worked as a food service director in area nursing homes. She also was a licensed beauty operator and loved to make silk floral arrangements when asked.

Because of her work she was recognized by the former Bloomington Convalescent Center with a Certificate of Appreciation with the residents. She was also the recipient of the Monroe County Community Service Award. She was a graduate of the State of Indiana’s School on Disability.

As a lifelong resident of Monroe County, Joan participated in numerous activities including the Heritage Days Festival in Harrodsburg. She served on the Board of Directors for the festival and was Miss Congeniality during Monroe County’s Sesquicentennial Celebration.

Survivors include one son, Bradley F. Myers of Bloomington; her mother, Louise Moser of Bloomington; her sisters, Linda (Windell) Morrow of Lawrence County, Connie Kinser and Lana Moser, both of Bloomington, Diane Forbes of Salina, Ohio and Anita Johnson; and her former spouse, Harvey Myers of Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her biological mother, Beulah Beeler; her father, Loren Moser; her brother, Donnie Moser; her grandparents, Frank and Bessie Byers; and her aunt and uncle, Phyllis and Robert Felling.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Cheryl Crum and the Rev. Michael Douglas officiating. Burial will be at Clover Hill Cemetery.

Richard Gage

Richard “Dick” Gage, 78, of The Villages, Fla., passed away on Sunday.

Mr. Gage was born in Adams County, and moved to The Villages from Bedford in 1991 where he was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks No. 826 and a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 1166.

Locally, he is a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Eileen; daughters, Carol Ann (Gary) Blackwell of Bedford and Sharon Louise (Tom) Smoot of Warner Robins, Ga.; son, Keven Gerard (Laura) Gage of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Timothy Catholic Church in The Villages.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N. Hwy. 27/441, Lady Lake, FL.

Gary L. Hash

Gary L. Hash of Springville passed away Dec. 28, 2011, at his home.

Born April 16, 1946, in Monroe County, he was the son of Erma (Chestnut) Gentry and Leon A. Hash. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Monon Railroad, and was a member of the Union. He also worked in the construction field for many years as a concrete finisher.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working on old cars.

Survivors include Rosetta Clark Hash, wife of 23 years; Bob and Nellie Clark, beloved mother and father-in-law; one sister, Sheila Sterrett of Bloomington; one brother, Mike Hash, also of Bloomington; one son, Scott L. (Debbie) Hash of Solsberry; five nephews, Tim, Jake and Joel Sterrett of Bloomington, Gerry Hash, Mike Walley; one niece, Shellie Brummett of Bloomington; two grandsons, Daniel S. Hash and Jared A. Hash, both of Solsberry.

He will be laid to rest at Clear Creek Cemetery.
