Steven W. Hardin 1965 — 2016

Funeral services for Steve Hardin, 50, of Georgetown, IN, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville, IN. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 PM on Thursday and after 9 AM on Friday at the funeral home. He passed away on September 3, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Steve was the original Chairman of the Board of the Georgetown Township Fire Protection District. He was a retired volunteer firefighter at the McCulloch Volunteer Fire Department and a 911 Dispatcher at Clark County Central Alarm while attending Indiana University Southeast. He was an integral part of several local companies and startups including: Ayenet, Emazing, and CheapCycleParts.com. He also lent his talents to Sony Music and Sony Pictures. Steve enjoyed flying civilian aircraft, and building and flying model rockets with his daughters.

Steven was preceded in death by his father, Gene Hardin.

He is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Kim Hardin; twin daughters, Camden and Emily Hardin; brother, Glenn Hardin (Paula); mother, Norma Hardin; several nieces and nephews; and faithful companion, Snoopy.

Marjorie Jeanette Tyree Marjorie Jeanette (Hawkins) Tyree, 92, of Bedford, died Thursday. Arrangements are pending at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford. September 08, 2016 James R. Johnson April 16, 1937 — Sept. 5, 2016 James R. Johnson, 79, of Williams, died at 9:23 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at IU Health Bedford Hospital. Born April 16, 1937, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Gene and Elsie (Booker) Johnson. He married Janice Turner on Dec. 31, 1959, and she survives. He was a graduate of Oolitic High School with the Class of 1957. He was a co-owner of Emery Realty and an insurance broker. He was a truck driver for Bell Freight Lines and a farmer. He attended Old Union Christian Church, the 39th Street Christian Church and was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife, Janice of Williams; a son, Brian Keith Johnson and wife Lisa of Williams; a daughter, Kimberly Johnson of Williams; grandchildren, Sabrina Bex, Brittany and Dillon Johnson, and Kayty Johnson; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel Johnson and wife Marilou of Paoli and Jerry Johnson and wife Sandy of Indianapolis; a sister, Donna Lowhorn of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Veal, 72, of Bedford, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at his residence. Born Nov. 1, 1943, in Bedford, he was the son of Raymond and Marjorie (Combs) Veal. He retired from General Motors, was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a HAM radio operator. Survivors include, one son, Jim A. Veal, Jr. of Columbus; a son-in-law, Danny Gerkin of Bedford; two grandsons, Toby and Taylor Gerkin, both of Bedford; and a sister, Pat Spinks-Stewart of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Rayjean Gerkin. Private services will be held in Green Hill Cemetery at a later date with military rites accorded. Gail Rose (Myers) Smith June 30, 1939 — Sept. 4, 2016 Mrs. Gail Rose Myers Smith, 77, of Bedford, returned to her Heavenly Father on Sept. 4, 2016. Mrs. Smith retired from Dunn Memorial Hospital as a data entry operator and was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church. Among those that preceded her in death include her parents, Earl and Flo Nichols Myers; and husband, Eddie Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Lynn Board (Daniel) and Kimberly Hornback (Doug); grandchildren, Michael (Allyson), Jennifer, Austyn and Cole; three great-grandchildren; and brother, John Myers. A graveside service was Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Fairview Cemetery (N. High Street) Brownstown. Wise April 12, 1959 — Sept. 2, 2016 Cheryl J. Wise, 57, of Ellettsville, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born April 12, 1959, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of George E. Bruce and G. Ann Chaney-Henderson. Cheryl was the Postmaster for the Athletics Department at Indiana University for 25 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister who enjoyed golfing, fishing and riding with her husband on their Harley-Davidson. Cheryl attended the McDoel Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Jeff G. Wise; one daughter, Crystal E. Vest (Anthony) of Bloomfield; two sons, Jeremy J. Wise and Richard “Dickie” Wise, both of Ellettsville; her mother and father, both of Bloomington; mother-in-law, Lynn Wise of Spencer; two sisters, Melissa Bruce (Terry) of Bedford and Tam Bruce-Riney of Stanford; two brothers, Roy L. Bruce (Sarah) and George Bruce, both of Bloomington; five sisters-in-law, Katrina Wise, Dana Wise, Holly Wise, Lisa Wise and Tammy Wise; three brothers-in-law, Erik Wise, Greg Wise and Brian Wise; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Robert Wise; stepfather, Wilbur Henderson; sister-in-law, Cathy Bruce; and two nieces, Tiffany George and Christy Scroggins. Donald R. Shake Jr. Feb. 19, 1970 — Aug. 31, 2016 Donald R. Shake Jr., 46, of Bedford, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Bloomington Hospice House, after battling pancreatic cancer. Born February 19, 1970, in Jacksonville (Camp LeJeune), North Carolina, he was the son of Patricia Jones (White) of Bedford and Donald (Deborah) Shake of Bloomington. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1989 and served in the U.S. Navy. He loved golfing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his mother, Patty Jones of Bedford; father, Don (Debbie) Shake of Bloomington; sister, Christy (Brent) Shirley of Bedford; brother, Travis Shake of Bloomington; nieces, Breonna (TJ) Simmons of Evansville, Alexandria (Jacob) Weaver of Bloomington and Deanna Shirley of Bedford; great niece, Marcella Simmons (Evansville); uncles/aunts, Mike Shake of Bloomfield, Jack Shake of Linton, Jim (Carolyn) White of Sandborn, Larry (Karen) White of Bloomfield, Galene Shake of Bloomfield and Tina Shake of Virginia; and longtime girlfriend, Jodi Randolph of Bedford. September 03, 2016 Adria Danell Chandler April 27, 1980 — Aug. 23, 2016 Adria D. (Edwards) Chandler, 36, of Austin, TX, formerly of Ellettsville, passed away at Cozumel International Hospital in Cozumel, Mexico, on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Adria was born in Nashville, TN, on April 27, 1980, the daughter of Johnie Paul and Melba (McBride) Edwards. She attended Stinesville Elementary School and graduated from Cambridge Academy. Adria was a member of the Church of Christ. She attended Mid America College of Mortuary Science, where she graduated with a degree in Mortuary Science in 2006. Adria began her career as a funeral director at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville, then moving to Tampa, FL. She found her place as a director at Cook-Walden Funeral Home in Austin, Texas, where she excelled at assisting the families she served. Her special touches to the funeral services she conducted exceeded her families’ expectations each and every day. Some of Adria’s favorite things were horses and turtles. She was a generous and loving person, caring for her family and friends throughout her life. Adria is survived by her parents, Johnie Paul Edwards and Melba Edwards of Ellettsville; siblings, John Isaac Edwards and his wife, Aleisha, of Terre Haute and Rebekah Edwards of Atlanta; companion and best friend, G.L. Chandler, Jr., of Ellettsville; maternal grandmother, Helen McBride of Bedford; paternal grandparents, Johnie Edwards and Loretta Edwards of Bloomington; uncle, Larry McBride and wife, Brenda, of Columbia, MO; aunts, Linda Wininger and husband, Ralph, of Orleans, Marilyn Hunter and husband, Don, of Bedford; uncles, Tom Edwards and wife, Debbie, of Bloomington and Titus Edwards of Land O’ Lakes, FL, and several great-aunts, uncles and cousins; and her faithful Chihuahua, Digger. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Russell McBride. Funeral services for Adria will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 11 a.m. with her brother, John Isaac Edwards, officiating. Kevin Dean Turpen Jun. 30, 1961 — Sep. 1, 2016 Kevin Dean Turpen, 55, Bedford, died Thursday morning at Bloomington Hospital. Kevin was born June 30, 1961, in Bedford, to Joy Dean and Shirley (Connors) Turpen. He is survived by his parents of Bedford; companion, Ericka Sanders of Bloomington; brother, Trevor (fiance’ Beth Matthews) Turpen of Heltonville; sisters, Teresa (Marty) Howe of Bedford and Karen (David) Hillenburg of Norman; and nieces and nephews, Andrew (Jackie) Hillenburg, Aleshia (Brett) Meyers, Becca (Adam) Reynolds, Samantha Howe, Taylor Turpen, Chase Turpen, Keagan Matthews and Kendyl Matthews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn “Jeannie” Turpen. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from noon until the service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville.
