May 28, 2016 Claudia Rhea (Farley) Meadows Hanna Aug. 30, 1929 — May 26, 2016 Claudia Rhea (Farley) Meadows Hanna, 86, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2016. Claudia was born to Addison C. and Lizzie Ellen (Shrewsbury) Farley on Aug. 30, 1929, in Rhodell, W. Va. Claudia was a Sterilization Technician for Bloomington Hospital for over 20 years. She loved her family and her K-9 companion, Willie. She enjoyed yardwork, crafts, sewing and painting. Claudia is survived by four children, Darryl (Judy) Meadows of Florida, Randall (Cristine) Meadows of Mooresville, Joann (Roger) Hearld of Florida and Judy (Chuck) Lamar of Brownsburg; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Farley; and two sisters, Betty Cox and Freda Burton. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, George T. Meadows; and more recently by her second husband, Jack E. Hanna. Thompson, 88, of Bedford, died at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bedford. Born Sept. 30 1927, in Williams, he was the son of Hale and Beulah (Adamson) Thompson. He married Velma Williams on April 1, 1950, and she survives. He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years and drove the DAV van for ten years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and the Korean War having been drafted twice. He was a member of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion, SAR and of the Baptist faith. Lee traveled over Florida as a professional shuffle board player. Survivors include his wife, Velma, of Bedford; a son, Brian L. Thompson and wife Kathy of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Ronda Thompson of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Shannon Minshall, James Anthony, Sara Burk, Stuart Thompson, Brandon Thompson, and Leslie Pemberton; and seven great-grandchildren, Sherissa, Elise and Lorali Minshall, Braden, Lucas, Ty Paul, and Dani Lynn Thompson, and Aiden, Mayah and Addalyn Pemberton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brad Thompson; a brother, Harlan Thompson and a sister, Lucille Kinder. Born June 1, 1935, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Alfred E. Underwood and Ruth Ann (Panza) Underwood. She married Raymond Tincher Jr. who died in 1990. She was a homemaker. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.fergusonlee.com May 25, 2016 William ‘Bill’ Sawyer Aug. 8, 1943 — May 23, 2016 William “Bill” Sawyer, 72, of Orleans, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016, at 10:05 p.m. at his residence. He was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Martinsville, the son of the Rev. Loyd J. and Minnie (Stewart) Sawyer. He married Carolyn (Fish) Sawyer and she survives. He worked at Mitchell Crushed Stone for 35 years, he was a truck driver and laborer throughout his years of employment. He is survived by his wife of Orleans; three children, Mary Elizabeth Pickett (Roy) of English, Steven Ferguson of Beech Grove, and Samantha Sawyer of Salem; twin sister, the Rev. Wilma Bone (Duane) of Salem; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral will be on Thursday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Bonds Chapel Cemetery. Darrell Duane Simmerman May 29, 1968 — May 23, 2016 Darrell Duane Simmerman, 48, of Jasonville, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016, at 12:15 p.m. at Sullivan County Community Hospital. Darrell was born on May 29, 1968, in Greene County, the son of Larry Simmerman and Louise Burns Simmerman. He worked in the cafeteria at Dugger Union School. Darrell was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Simmerman and one brother-in-law, Joey Goodwin. Survivors include his wife, Valerie Goodwin; his father, Larry Simmerman (Jeanette) of Bedford; and his mother, Louise Burns Simmerman of Newberry; one son, Chris Simmerman (Taylor) of Jasonville; one daughter, Samantha Simmerman of Jasonville; and one grandchild, Andrew Thomas Simmerman. Funeral service will be held at Newkirk’s Funeral Home in Dugger on May 26 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Matt Larimer officiating. Beverly Ann ‘Bev’ Kasprzak May 31, 1944 — May 12, 2016 Words most often used to describe Beverly (Bev) A. Kasprzak were caring, cheerful, creative, intelligent, and best friend. Bev’s family and friends sadly miss her and know that she has God’s blessing. She always supported her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren with a never-ending love. Bev passed away on May 12 at Froedtert Hospital after a long battle with a liver disease. She was born in Eureka, Calif., while her Dad served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Her parents Carroll and Margie Ray preceded her death. Bedford, Indiana was home during her elementary and high school years. Bev always knew that she wanted to be an elementary teacher. She graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1966 with a B.S. degree in Education. Her student teaching was done in Bloomington. She had a first date with an Indiana pharmacist. Thus, Bev and Ken began a loving relationship and they were married on June 25, 1966. With two girls and spouse, she moved to Lafayette, then Grand Rapids, Mich., before settling in Green Bay, Wis. They resided in Green Bay for 30 years. Bev put a teaching career on hold as love for her children made her the best stay home Mom. During those years, Bev was an active volunteer; Girl Scout Troop Leader, Green Bay School Board member, Officer in School Parent Teacher Organization. She also had hobbies such as photography, sewing, and Wycinanki (Polish Paper-Cut design). Sewing projects included clothes for her girls, window curtains, quilts, and even her husband’s ties. As college began for her daughters, Bev returned to the classroom as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Denmark Elementary School. She retired in 2003. Bev loved to cook gourmet meals for her family. She taught her husband many things, none of which was how to cook. However, she did convert him to a love of reading and travel. Bev always had a book in hand or listening to books on tape. Beginning with a trip to Scotland, while Melanie did her student teaching, she planned annual visits with Ken to many destinations. She was a tour guide extraordinaire. Bev loved art and history and traveled to France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Visiting art museums and castles were always a must. Her favorite was Musee d’Orsay in Paris. She enjoyed hiking on Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula. During their last international trip, she fulfilled a dream of attending a Shakespeare play at Stratford’s Royal Shakespeare Theater and London’s Globe Theatre. Bev missed southern Indiana so in 2004, she and Ken built their dream home in Bloomington. Bev loved jazz music and attended many events with Ken. She also was active in Jazz for Bloomington and worked with area musicians to promote a love of music. As her disease worsened, she moved back to Wisconsin close to family. The last two years were especially a health challenge. Bev was never one to complain, no matter how her illness dictated life events. Family and friends dearly loved her. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington, Wis., at a date and time to be announced by her family. Bev was a member of the First Christian Church in Bloomington and the Grafton American Legion Auxiliary. Beverly is survived by her husband Ken; daughters, Beth Froelich of Port Washington, Wis., and Melanie Gram of Coral Springs, Fla.; sons-in-law, Jeff Froelich and Jamie Gram; and three grandchildren, Matt and Nick Froelich, and Trinity Gram. Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Roy O. and Dorothy (Fields) Batman. She married Charles W. Vaught on May 22, 1947; he preceded her in death in 1997. Helen was a graduate of Shawswick High School, Class of 1946. She was a member of Dive Christian Church. She was a homemaker. She was born in Lawrence County on Oct. 10, 1941, to Marlin and Ruth (McKnight) Batman. She was a graduate of Bedford High School. Lenora had worked as a waitress at Lonnie’s and also had worked at RCA in Bloomington, Speedway, Older Americans, and with Avon Sales. Born May 30, 1943, in North Carolina, he was the son of Robert and Margaret (Nixon) Manning. He married Terry Ritchison on Nov. 7, 1999, and she survives. He was a retired truck driver and had worked for several companies. He was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge. Born Sept. 27, 1931, in Oolitic, she was the daughter of Banford and Matha (Sexton) Staley. She married Edward Cobb on Dec. 24, 1948, and he preceded her in death on May 1, 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of the Crossroads Community Church. Jean was a faithful Christian and loved her church. Her family and her dog, Lacy, were the most dear to her and she will be truly missed by them. Born Sept. 14, 1937, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Yancy Collins and Frances (McLaughlin) Collins Fox. He married Joyce Davis on Feb. 8, 1958, and she survives. He had worked for Extruded Alloys until disabled and was of the Christian faith. (Delpha) Wintergerst Sept. 15, 1923 — May 14, 2016 Ilene Elizabeth (Delpha) Wintergerst passed away into the arms of Jesus and waiting loved ones on Saturday, May 14, 2016. She was born to Henry and Mary (Bulotti) Delpha on Sept. 15, 1923, and lived her young life in Oolitic. Ilene married Charles Henry Wintergerst in December 1950 and raised four children; Gerald (Sarah) England of Gilbert, Ariz., Judith England (Ron) Strode of Martinsville, Mary (Dave) Fiscus of Spencer, and David (Julie) Wintergerst of Odon. Primarily living in Brown, Owen, and Greene counties, Ilene was a wonderful homemaker making her loved ones come first. She took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loving also to read, garden, swim, bake and other things too numerous to mention. Ilene had a sense of humor that could catch you off guard. For the past several years, she had resided at The Waters of Martinsville, where she was well loved and known to play a mean game of bingo. She is survived by her children; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her youngest sister Pauline (Harold) Baker of Bedford. Frances M. Hatfield, 62, of Bedford, died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Community Hospital in Anderson.

Born Nov. 15, 1953, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Frank A. Arena Jr. and Mildred (MacDonald) Arena. She married Jacob Hatfield in 1990 and he survives.

She was a homemaker and member of the Guide Pointe Church in Bedford.

She enjoyed doll collecting, children and her church.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob, of Bedford; two brothers, Mike Arena and wife Nancy of Bedford and Joe Arena and wife Carol of Anderson; a sister, Donna Bridwell of Bedford; three nieces; four nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Gary Bridwell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Chris Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Church of Christ Cemetery.

Ernie Finney, 73, of Bedford, died at 6:15 a.m. on May 10, 2016, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Nov. 30, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of Charles and Maxine (Jones) Finney.

He was a graduate of Bedford High School and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Bedford.

Ernie retired from North Lawrence Community Schools Corporation.

Surviving are his fiancé, Judith Quackenbush; two daughters, Julie (Clay) Carter and Lynisa Blackwell; grandchildren, Brittany Allen, Brandee Allen and Tyler Hogue; two brothers, Doug Finney (Fiancé Teresa Torphy), Charlie (Roxanne) Finney; sister, Pamela Finney; five nephews, Doug Jr. (Gena) Finney, Chris (Susan) Finney, Nathan (Fiancé Jennifer Maul) Finney, Dr. Brandt Finney and Donnie Harris; and niece, Amy (Billy) Kaiser.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Perry Finney.

Luther Lynch, 81, of Medora, died at 3:26 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

He was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Owsley County, Ky., the son of Conley and Beulah (Whicker) Lynch. He married Carolyn Seibert on July 31, 1960, in Brookville, and she survives. He was a Jackson County resident since 1966.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-58 as a gunmate on the USS Chukawan.

He was a superintendent at Visteon in Bedford for 42 years.

He was a member of the Medora Christian Church.

He was a diehard UK basketball fan. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and horseback riding. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his dog, Dottie.

Surviving with his wife, Carolyn; are one son, Tim (Debbie) Lynch of Seymour; one daughter, Kim (Scott) Riley of Marion; four grandchildren, Jenale Bailey, Amberly Schroeder, Kirk Hauer and Brittany Haynes; five great-grandchildren, Kohen Bailey, Kinsley Schroeder, Bristol Bailey, Kylee Haynes and Chance Bailey; three brothers, Lyn Lynch and Harlan Lynch, both of McKee, Ky., and Ronald Lynch of West Union, Ohio; and three sisters, Wilma Parker of Annville, Ky., Gerry Turner of McKee, Ky., and Ann Helton, East Bernstadt, Ky.

His parents; four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Medora Christian Church with Chad Lynch and Mike Wall officiating. Burial will be in White River Valley Cemetery in Medora.

Robert E. “Gene” Benjamin, 77, of Bedford, died at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born Nov. 17, 1938, in Loogootee, he was the son of Maurice E. and Mary G. (Willis) Benjamin. He married Jayne Berhalter on Dec. 17, 1983, and she survives.

He served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He later was manager at NWSC Crane retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford and American Legion No. 250 of Mitchell.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and golf. He was a member of the band, the Tomahawks for over 20 years and played with the Jammers at the Orleans Farmer’s Market for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Jayne, of Bedford; four daughters, Stephanie Preston of Lafayette, Gaylene Wieman and husband Tom of Saukville Wis., Suzanne Preston-Mroz and husband Markus of Vienna, Austria, and Samantha Preston and fiancé Troy Jarvis of Bloomington; a son, Sam Preston of Bedford; six grandchildren, Kayti Fletcher, Peter Wieman, Brooke Heckard Martin, Gretta Preston, Luke Preston and Lucy Mroz; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph “Laddie” Benjamin and wife Ava of Florida and Donald Benjamin and wife Fran of Texas and his twin, Jerry Benjamin of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Lee Benjamin; three brothers, Glenn Edwin, John Charles and William Willis Benjamin; and a sister, Mary Lyons.

Born Sept. 3, 1932, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Millard Baker and Pearl (Voorhies) Baker.

He married Mary Alice Freeman on June 13, 1964, and she survives.

He was a self-employed roofer and painter, retired. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Springville and also a member of the Bedford Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Alice, Norman; two daughters, Linda and Brenda, both of Iowa; one brother, James Baker and one sister, Reva Mundy, both of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clyde L. ‘Whitey’ Hawkins

July 19, 1926 — May 12, 2016

Clyde L. “Whitey” Hawkins, 89, lifelong Shoals resident, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 8:11 p.m. at the Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on July 19, 1926 at the old Martin County Jail, he was the son of James Grover and Grace Elizabeth (Hickman) Hawkins.

Whitey formerly served as Sheriff of Martin County and retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation. He was also a Conservation Officer for the State of Indiana.

He was well known as a politician serving on both the State of Indiana and National Democratic Committees. He also served as Martin County Commissioner and Martin County Councilman at Large.

Whitey graduated in 1945 from Shoals High School and joined the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was very faithful to serve with the American Legion Honor Guard, and until his health declined he rarely missed honoring his fellow comrades. Whitey was a member of the Shoals American Legion Hanson McFee Post No. 61, American Patriot Lodge F&A. Oolitic, Shoals V.F.W. Post No. 8589, 40/8th Voiture Locale No. 107 Vincennes, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2442.

He was a devout member of Shoals St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 732 Loogootee.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (Ervin) Hawkins of Shoals; four daughters, Debra Jan Strange of Shoals, Lynette Kay Jones of Bloomington, Micky Ann Crew of Shoals, and Wendy Jenea Colglazier of Springville; seven grandchildren, Steve Strange, Rainell Cushman, Chris Roush, Brittany Stalcup, Derek Sipes, Bethany Tuomi and Jarrod Lents; two stepgranddaughters, Candace Clark and Cassi Crew; 10 great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Hubert Hawkins, John Grover Hawkins, Charles Hawkins and Bob Hawkin; four sisters, Gene Cropp, Lucille Jarboe, Mildred Beaver and Wanda Stiles; and great-granddaughter Haylei Sipes.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shoals. Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery. American Legion Post No. 61 and Indiana Sheriff’s Association Honor Guard will conduct graveside services.

Randy Silas Heath was born to Howard Carter Heath and Ruth Leverne Seeley Heath on April 28, 1949, in Bloomington, IN.

Randy grew up in the small town of Harrodsburg, where he attended elementary school and Jr. High at the Old Harrodsburg School, then Smithville High School. He was in choir and plays growing up. He liked creating skits and designing the costumes.

His greatest passion was art.

He graduated from Valencia Jr. College in Orlando, Fla. He then went to the University of Southern Florida for his BA, and later to IU for his Master’s, in Art of course.

Education was always very important to him and he wanted his nephews and nieces to further their education. After graduating, Randy and his cousin Dan traveled to Europe and they had stories. Randy loved to travel to meet people and always made friends along the way.

Randy was a member of the Church of Christ at Harrodsburg for about 50 years where for some years he would address the congregation and lead songs.

Randy taught in Lawrence County at Heltonville, Fayetteville, Dollens, Oolitic, Stalker, and Parkview schools in his years as a traveling teacher. He truly loved teaching the children. He wanted each child to learn to express themselves through all forms of art, film, cloth, clay metal and paint. He taught how important art is in our every day lives.

Randy, or Silas as many knew him, owned many floral and gift shops, another passion. To create a vignette that told a story and made you want to buy everything displayed. His mind was always working to create something from a seemingly useless item, even days before he passed.

As his arthritis worsened he created and altered books and pictures, also the most beautiful greeting cards.

Randy loved Paris and wanted to go back there. Finding all things French most beautiful. He enjoyed the slow and beautiful ways of the South and the Southern styles. We planned a theme birthday for him, but he became to ill to come. “I’d rather be in Paris.”

Randy loved to see ladies in hats, so if someone feels like wearing one to viewing or services please do so, or a French Knot.

Randy loved his nieces and nephews beyond measure and the great ones as well: Ashton Brooke Duff, Chevelle Knight Gracie Long, Calli Pope, Jameson Pope, Colton and Conner Pope, Gavin, Brayden Robinson, Zayne Dwigans. His love for family was great although health issues kept him from always participating.

He was my confidante, the one who told me when I was out of line. Randy never meet a stranger and loved talking and deep discussion. He has gone to be with his parents and grandparents and niece Yvonne whom he enjoyed taking places as a child.

Randy is survived by sisters Sally (Ernie) Livingston, Melody (Rick) Pope; nephews Jason (Robin) Pope, Mathew (Tiffanie) Pope, Cody ( Shelli) Pope, Carrie (Tony) Knight, Tonya (Phillip) Long; cousins Dan & Amy Glover, John & Amy Love, Larry & (Janie) Heath; Great Uncle Robert Carter. Dean Anderson, 85, of Bedford, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born Feb. 3, 1931, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Abraham G. and Ruby Mae (Mitchell) Anderson. He married Myrtle Ann Bloxom on Dec. 12, 1953, and she preceded him in death on May 23, 2007.

He was a serviceman for Indiana Gas Co. for 34 years retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War.

Survivors include a daughter, Libby Wilcox and husband Howard, of Bedford; a son, Ricky Dean Anderson and wife Ella of Bedford; Lora Daugherty and husband Scott, of Orleans, Marsha Anderson of Bloomington; a grandson, Chris S. Anderson and wife Michelle; two granddaughters, Crystal Marie Popp and husband Chris and Olivia Kelley Wilcox and fiancé Greg Andres, Jaci Watson and husband Evan and Cole Faust; great-grandchildren, Lauryn Anderson, Camryn Anderson, Evan Anderson, Anderson “Andy” Popp, Nathan Popp and Matthew Popp; and a nephew, Scott Mapes and wife Mary.

Dorothy L. (Scofield) Gates, 91, of Bedford, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at Garden Villa, Bedford.

Born May 29, 1924, in Bedford, she was the daughter of George Scofield and Nancy (Hall) Scofield.

She married Ralph E. “Bud” Gates on April 30, 1943; he died June 12, 1986.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School with the Class of 1942; had worked at Bell Telephone and Bell Cleaners, both in Bedford and was a homemaker. She had also sold Avon Products.

Dorothy was raised in the Dive Christian Church and later joined St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford. She was a member of the Ladies of Columbus, a volunteer with Dunn Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the St. Vincent Altar Society, a volunteer with the St. Vincent De Paul Society Thrift Store and worked several years as a caregiver.

Surviving are two sons, Frederick (Kathy) Gates, North Charleston, S.C., and Timothy (Teri) Gates, Bedford; five daughters, Dolores (Gordon) Mundy, Linda (Randy) Quackenbush, Kathy (David) Thorne and Diana (Michael) Lawson, all of Bedford and Debbie (Paul) Mount, Bloomington; 14 grandchildren, Justin Mundy, Bedford, Nathan (Amanda) Mundy, Fort Wayne, Jennifer Gates, Boston, MA, Sarah Gates Chicago, IL, Lisa (Jack) Blackman, Martinsville, Angi (David) Couch, Bedford, Nicholas (Anna) Gates, Bedford, Jack Quackenbush, Bedford, Travis (Amber) Thorne, Bedford, Laura Thorne, Bedford, Ryann Christy, Gosport, Jodi Ritter, Bloomington, Heather Parker, Indianapolis and Kyle (Christina) Parker, Bloomington; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Eva Rio and Florence Matlock; and three brothers, Alva, Clifford and Floyd Scofield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with Fr. Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Bedford.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.

Delmer “Del” L. Morrow, 63, of Bedford, died at 9:06 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born Dec. 19, 1952, in Delta, Ky., he was the son of Eulas Morrow and Chloa Del (Kidd) Morrow. He married Angela Faye Kern on Feb. 22, 1997, and she survives.

He was an entrepreneur in Bedford and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge No. 14 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Faye of Bedford; his mother, Chloa Del Morrow of Oolitic; three daughters, Megan DelFaye Morrow of Bedford, Kellie Del Morrow of Somerset, Ky., and Kimberly Ann Morrow of Somerset, Ky.; a son, Christopher Elijah Wade Morrow and wife Alesha of Bedford; two grandchildren, Kelia Dakota Morrow and Christopher Xavier Morrow; two great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Dakota Lee Morrow and Adrial Morrow; two brothers, Dexter Eugene Morrow of Oolitic and Michael Kenneth Morrow of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; and a sister, Carolyn Ann Morrow of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eulas; a brother, Darrell Wayne Morrow; a sister, Lucinda Kay Morrow Horne; and a nephew, Josh Tedley.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 13, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Danny Goens and Bob Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Springville Cemetery West where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and from 10 a.m. until the service on Friday, May 13, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Philip D. Robertson, 68, of Bedford, died at 1:11 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born Feb. 6, 1948, in Bedford, he was the son of John D. and Betty (McGinnis) Robertson. Phil graduated from Bedford High School in 1966, Dartmouth College in 1970, and earned his MBA from Stanford University.

He worked as a CFO for several companies which include Arco, Bee Line, and Union Pacific Railroad. In later years he worked as a business consultant and was an entrepreneur and founder of Bravo Youth Sports.

Survivors include his sister, Susan Robertson Sargent of Bedford; three daughters, Hova Woods and husband Jeff and their two children, Max and Lola, of Bloomington; Sarah Risen-Robertson of New York, N.Y., and Lindsay Rubin and husband Brett of New Orleans, La.

Phil was married twice, first to Susan D. Risen of Bloomington, and the mother of Hova and Sarah, then to Kay LaGrange, of O’Fallon, Ill., the mother of Lindsay. They both survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 13, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Kay Collins officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the service on Friday, May 13, at the mortuary.

Jerry W. Key, 63, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 20, 1952, in Bedford, he was the son of Richard and Ilene (Moore) Key. He married Charla Eagan on Jan. 4, 1974, and she survives.

He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School with the Class of 1971. He attended Vincennes University from 1973-75, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in accounting. Jerry drove a truck for several companies, including the Times-Mail and most recently, Stone City Products.

He was of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching TV. Before his stroke he enjoyed reading, yard sales, auctions and “junkin.”

Surviving are his loving wife and caregiver, Charla of Huron; two sons, Richard (Jennifer) Key of Mitchell and Andrew (Michelle) Key of Orleans; two daughters, Samantha (Ken) Miller and Vanessa (Jared) Hawk of Mitchell; 13 grandchildren, Connor, Lance and Grady (Nicci) Key, Alexis Clifton, Christa Craig, David, Derek and Liberty Miller, Alyssa (Chad) Careins, Brandyn and Bricyn Abel, and Johanna and Addie Hawk; four great-grandchildren, Logan Miller, Rilyn Key, Andon Eads and Tripp Manship; two brothers, Donald (Georgia) Key and John Robert (Betty) Key of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene and Roy; one halfbrother, Leo; two sisters, Pauline and Mary; and a halfsister, Claudeen.

Ann M. Dyer, 53, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 11:11 a.m. at University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born April 14, 1963, she was the daughter of Donald A. and Shirley (Williams) Brinegar.

She was a graduate of Charity Chapel Christian Academy, Bedford. She had worked at Visteon, GM Powertrain, RCA in Bloomington, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are one son, Elijah Dyer, of Bedford; one daughter, Jerrika Dyer, of Bedford; one grandchild, Elias Dyer; one sister, Debra (Tim) Marshall, of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Brian Brinegar.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Sister Becky Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Leatherwood Cemetery.

LeeAnn LeJeune, 65, of Bloomington passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 8, 2016, at her residence.

Born March 5, 1951, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Edward T. “Doc” and Norma Jean (Myers) Reynolds.

LeeAnn was a secretary at Lakeview Elementary School for 13 years where her friends, colleagues, and especially the children brought her great joy.

She was a valuable member of the local philanthropic sorority, Delta Theta Tau, Zeta Chapter. A past President and member for 35 years the Monroe County sorority has raised funds for the Bloomington Hospital Foundation, Olcott Center and several other local charities and organizations.

LeeAnn was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister who enjoyed Mickey Mouse, trips to Disney World and fashion.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Butch LeJeune of South Bend; one daughter, Christine Mayes (Grant) of Columbus, Ohio; one son, J.T. LeJeune (Laura Hunsucker) of Bloomington; her parents; one sister, Linda Pittman (Paul); one brother, Lincoln Reynolds (Melanie); and one nephew, Jason Reynolds, all of Bedford.

The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401.

May 07, 2016 Clyde Raymond “Blondie” Burnell Dec. 7, 1929 — May 5, 2016 Clyde Raymond “Blondie” Burnell was born Dec 7, 1929. He was one of eight children of Clarence and Clovie Burnell. Clyde died on Thursday May. Clyde spend his youth moving from New York to Indiana and Florida. As an adult, Clyde had many jobs to make ends meet, from dairy cows to farming and trucking. His big adventures were in Alaska. He traveled the Alaskan Highway dozens of times. Working on gold dredges in the 1950s and was employed in the civil service. After moving back to Indiana in the 1960s he was employed at Crane. When asked what was his favorite job he would say being a motor grader operator. Clyde retired from Crane in 1975. Clyde was married to Maureen Rennicks, they had three daughters, Vickie, Janet and Penny. Clyde remarried in the 1980s to Betty Mathew Clark. They had many years of happiness not only at their Orleans home but travelling from Florida to Alaska. Betty passed away in 2006 after her death, Clyde found a new travel companion in his dog Tippy. They traveled many miles together. Clyde was a member of the Mount Horeb Baptist Church and active in the Orleans Masonic Lodge. Clyde recently returned to Indiana and resided at Garden Villa nursing home in Bedford. He is survived by siblings, Cecelia of Edgewater, Fla., Curt (Beverly) of Belmont, N.Y., Carolyn of Cresent City, Fla.; his three daughters, Vickie (Bob) Braun of Ipswich, S.D., Janet (Charlie) Marrone of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Penny (Steve) Sloan of Mott, N.D.; five 5 grandchildren, Christa (Jason) Lueck and their children (Ethan, Aaron, Owen and Ian), Alison (Corey) Schwan and their children (Emily and Sawyer), Michele (Scott) Koerber and their children (Kassidee, Kennidee, Morgan, Bridger and Landon), Lesley Meyer and her son (Nathaniel), and Francis Moore and her son (Taelour); plus many other family relatives. Beryl R. Horrall, 67, of Bedford, (formerly of Princeton) passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, after having survived an eight-year battle with cancer.

Beryl was born March 11, 1949, and was a 1967 graduate of Princeton High School. He attended Indiana University and was an avid IU sports fan.

Beryl was a past president of the Bedford Rotary Club and lived the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.” He was an active member of the Lawrence County Home Builders Association, where he served as president and also on many boards in the state and national Homebuilders Association. Beryl was a 48-year member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland “Rock” and Helen Horrall; an infant sister, Elizabeth Jean and his partner of 20 years, Lisa Pugh.

Beryl is survived by his loving partner and caregiver, Amy Ireland of Mount Carmel; children, Christopher P. Hill of Bloomington, Blane E. Horrall of Bedford and Heather Lowry of Lafayette; one granddaughter, Madison Harding; siblings, Roxanne (Bob) Swan of Prospect, Ky., Rosiene Weaver (Don Kohls) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Ed (Ellyn) Horrall of Patoka; numerous nieces and nephews who all looked up to their Uncle Beryl; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Beryl was blessed to have a friendship stretching over 55 years with Pat McConnell, Joe Schmitts and George Wright. This group was often referred to as “The Fab Four.”

At Beryl’s request there will be no funeral service, rather his wishes were to gather together for Celebrations of Life. One celebration will be held in Bedford, where he lived most of his adult life, at The First Baptist Church, 1515 20th Street, from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 6.

There will also be a celebration from 4-8 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, May 7, in his hometown of Princeton at the Knights of Columbus, 313 West Broadway. Those attending these services are encouraged to bring pictures, stories and memories of Beryl to share with family and friends.

Wanda June (Tolbert) Burton

June 26, 1933 — May 4, 2016

Wanda June (Tolbert) Burton, 82, of Orleans, passed away on May 4, 2016, at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 26, 1933, in Orangeville, the daughter of Lawrence and Rhoda Tolbert.

Wanda and Harold J. Burton were married on Dec. 18, 1954, and together they spent 61 1/2 years residing in Orleans, and Port St. Lucie and Okeechobee, Fla.

Wanda was a member of the Orleans United Methodist Church and active in the Women’s Builders Sunday School Class. She graduated from Orleans High School Class of 1950. She was a gifted vocalist and served as a pianist for the church. She was a 50 year member of Phi Beta Psi and current member of the Phi Beta Auxiliary.

Wanda had worked as a bookkeeper throughout her life. She worked for Radcliff & Berry Quarry, Producers Dairy, Goodrich Feed Mill and Bank of America. Wanda and her husband owned and operated Orleans Trucking Co., Orleans Airport and Hwy. 337 Trailer Park.

She had been a patient at Floyd Memorial Hospital since March 23, 2016, where she had undergone open heart surgery.

She is survived by her husband, Harold J. Burton of Orleans; one daughter, Valarie J. Dreusicke (David) of Dawson Springs, Ky.; one son, Alan J. Burton (Rebecca) of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren, Jody Ream (Brandy) of Duluth, Minn., Lesley “Micki” Stanley (Chris) of Bedford, Sean Burton (Jennifer) of Ann Arbor, Mich., Molly Moon (Jon) of Orleans, Katie Stroud (Chad) of Valeene, and David Alan Burton of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Kenneth, Cecil, Merle, Lawrence Jr. Tolbert and one son, Leslie Joe Burton.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Orleans.

Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today and Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Jasper David “JD” Cain, 74, of Bedford, died at 11:21 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at his residence.

Born Oct. 7, 1941 in Lawrence County, he was the son of George Edward and Edith (Stephenson) Cain. He married Donna Jean on February 23, 1963 and she survives. JD was a retired stonecutter, having operated stone mills in Dallas, TX, and Rogers, AR. He loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an avid reader and received great comfort from reading his Bible. He was a member of the Leesville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include, his wife Donna, two daughters, Tammy (Doug) Jefferson of Coppell, TX, Deedra (Ty) Mathews of Bedford and one son, Jason (Michelle) Cain, of Bedford, grandchildren, Colin (Maggie) Jefferson of Lantana, TX, Jarrid (Elizabeth) Mathews, Justin Mathews, Corbin Cain and Victoria Cain all of Bedford, twin great-grandchildren, Ellison and Ian Jefferson (due later this summer), one sister, Sandra Young and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Courtney Jefferson.

Hubert B. ‘Hubie’ Terrell

March 22, 1927 — May 4, 2016

Hubert B. “Hubie” Terrell, 89, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at his residence.

Born March 22, 1927, in Washington County, Kentucky, he was the son of Clarence and Effie (Terrell) Terrell.

He was a self-employed heating and air conditioning contractor, and also a farmer. For 22 years he was owner and operator of the Boogie Barn.

Hubie was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda (Frank) Dumond of Mitchell, Jeanette (Larry) Miley of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Dorothy (Ronald) Mountcastle of Mitchell; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

His parents and siblings, Dorothy Davis, R. C. Terrell, Barney Terrell, J. B. Terrell, Lucy Terrell, Daphner Terrell, and Nancy Elaine Chastain, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Born Jan. 2, 1950, in Pulaski County, Ky., she was the daughter of Orville Frank and Eva Katherine (Bell) Silvers.

She retired from RCA.

Survivors include, one son, Scott Kimmel and wife Tammy of Bedford; one daughter, Melinda Williamson and husband Randy of Springville; eight grandchildren, Kelli Hoff and husband Mathew, Leslie Batcho and husband Jim, Linsey Taylor and husband Chris, Andy Kimmel and wife Dena, Cassie Payton and husband Calin, Sarah Morgan, Connor Morgan and Justin Williamson; seven great-grandchildren, Kylie Batcho, Camden Taylor, Elijah Hoff, Evan Batcho, Kyler Taylor, Emma Hoff and Carson Powell; three sisters, Elizabeth Stigall, Linda Burrows and her husband Steve and Edna Padgett; two brothers, Bill Silvers and wife Jeanette and Jack Silvers and wife Marsha; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harold Silvers.

Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, at Springville West Cemetery with Pastor Johnny Johnson officiating.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Doris Marie (Skinner) Kittle Kamp

July 11, 1922 — April 26, 2016

Doris Marie (Skinner) Kittle Kamp, born July 11, 1922, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at age 93 at home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Doris, a resident of Mitchell from 1962 to 1973, was a Girl Scout leader, a Red Cross swimming instructor, a Tri Kappa member and registered nurse at Dunn Memorial Hospital, before moving to Peoria, Ill.

She was a champion teenage swimmer who would have qualified for the 1940 Olympic Games had they been played. She gave up on grad school at age 22 to care for her ailing mother.

She was a registered nurse for 45 years, starting at St. John’s (Mercy) Hospital in St. Louis, where she received her nursing diploma.

Doris, who loved both cats and dogs, was sharp-witted to the end, a fighter with a tart sense of humor and a ready story.

She was married twice, to William W. Kittle, who died in 1989, and Harlan Kamp, who died in 1987.

She is survived by six children, Ann Kamp of Salt Lake City, Bill (Beverly) Kittle of Dripping Springs, Texas, Mary Jean (Mike) Enge of San Diego, Calif., Kristina (Tracy) Usry of King George, Va., Thomas (Margie) Kittle-Kamp of Chicago, and Donna (Joel) Engelhardt, with whom she lived and helped raise David and Emily, two of her 10 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of West Palm Beach, 301 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, FL, 33401.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. May 21 at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends afterward at Mitchell Community Building.

Nov. 19, 1945 — April 29, 2016

Dennis “Denny” Lane Goodman, 70, of Bedford, died at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016, at the IU Health Hospice House.

Born Nov. 19, 1945, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Rusty and Phyllis Kay (Bridwell) Goodman. He married Marilyn South in August of 1980 and she survives.

He retired from General Motors Powertrain as a tool and die maker.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Assembly of God Church, the UAW, and the Sons of the American Legion.

Denny loved his family dearly and spoiled his grandkids to no end. Never meeting a stranger, he had many acquaintances and was lucky enough to have a few close friends he loved dearly. He loved to hunt, particularly deer and was an avid fisherman. He loved golf, and Marilyn believes he was born with a club in his hands. Denny made every moment precious at the Hospice House, that we were blessed to share with him. He brought so much joy and laughter to every person that came to visit. He welcomed each and every one with a smile, and never tired of them. His family was told by many that they came to lift his spirits up, but were the ones who left with their spirits lifted instead. Denny passed with much grace.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn of Bedford; five children, Heather Goodman of Texas, Hope Goodman of Texas, Tammy Bartlett of Bedford, Kelly Powell and her husband Scott of Mauckport, and Alan Level of Bedford; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dianne Anderson of Spencer and Shona Turpin of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, David Goodman.

Funeral service will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Mike Winters officiating. At Denny’s request cremation will follow.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Feb. 9, 1937 — April 30, 2016

Joseph N. Tolbert, 79, passed away at 10:22 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born Feb. 9, 1937, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Laurin and Helen May (Jacobs) Tolbert. He married Marcia Etchison March 31, 1961.

Joe was a farmer and a retired school bus driver for Mitchell Community Schools. He was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ and Huron High School Class of 1955. Joe was a veteran of the Indiana National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia Tolbert of Mitchell; children, Brian (Rebekah) Tolbert of Williams, Paula (Jeff) McKnight of Mitchell, and Christopher (Jenny) Tolbert of Mitchell; grandchildren, Andy McKnight, Laurin Perry, Christopher Tolbert II, Dominic Tolbert, Whitley Tolbert, and Alex Brown; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sue Waggoner of Bedford, Jeff Tolbert of Williams, and Jim Tolbert of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and siblings, David Tolbert, Harry Tolbert, Paul Tolbert, Rose Tolbert, Betty Robertson, Mary Frances Dumond, and Priscilla Tolbert, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Richard Holt and Brother Kris Beasley officiating. Burial will be in Port William Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

LCDR Robert D. Howell Sr., (U.S.N., retired), passed away on April 28, 2016.

Bob was born April 25, 1938, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Donald and Mae (Waters) Howell. Bob grew up in Coshocton County, Ohio, and graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1956. While a senior in high school, Bob joined the Navy Reserve, and he entered active duty upon graduation. He married Margaret “Marge” Craun on November 29, 1956.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and earned a degree in History and Political Science from the University of Maryland. In his years since his retirement, he was very active in the Daniel Guthrie Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He served as the State Registrar for many years and held a number of offices in the SAR, including State President. He enjoyed participating in school programs and color guard in parades. In addition, he was active and held offices in the Retired Military Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Marge; his sons, Robert D. Howell Jr., and his wife, Nancy, of Chesapeake, VA, and Donald Howell of Bedford; and his daughter, Dianna Ragsdale, and her husband, Cecil, of Shoals. Also surviving are grandchildren, Cori (Chris) Nicholson of Chesapeake, VA; Adam (Shelby) Divine and Alex (Erica) Divine of Shoals; Joshua (Kristen) Howell of Chesapeake, VA; Bobby (Hannah) Howell, of Bedford; and Evan (Lori) Divine, of Rushville. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren. One son, Daniel, is deceased. He is also survived by a brother, William Howell and wife Doris of Maryland.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Final interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Cresthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
