Kinder – Ruby E. Kinder of Williams, IN, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at the Hospitality House. Born on November 6, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Ivy (Williams) Etchison. She married Robert L. Kinder on June 29, 1959, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one step-daughter, Stella Kay Thimling of Bedford, IN; two step-sons, Wallace Keith Kinder of Bloomington, IN, and Terry Leon Kinder of Omaha, NE; three sisters: Lucille Lynch of Williams, IN, Lorene Mitchell of Oolitic, IN, and Marsha Tolbert of Mitchell, IN; and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Marie Mundy, Luella Craig, and Louise Terrell.
She retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane, and had been employed by Ted Jones, Dr. Hammel, and Wilking & Combs Agency. She attended Williams Church of Christ.

Stotts – Cecil E. Stotts of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, October 26, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident in Lawrence County. Born on June 27, 1941, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Franklin and Clotha Fern (Cassida) Stotts. He married Roberta K. George in Bedford in 1967, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are one son, Troy Eugene Stotts of Williams, IN; one uncle, one niece, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Michelle Dian Stotts in 1982; one brother, Michael Stotts; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Lee Stotts.
He was retired from GM Powertrain and was a 1960 graduate of Bedford High School. He was a member of Charity Chapel, where he had served as a past board member.
Services for Cecil Stotts will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29th, at Charity Chapel, with Sister Rebekah Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Bedford, Harriet A. Mitchell, 79, of 8365 State Road 158 in Bedford, IN, died at 11:05 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2003, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 15, 1923 in Terre Haute, IN, she was the daughter of T. Earl and Berniece (Harvey) Drake. She married Warren Mitchell on November 29, 1942, and he survives.
She was a homemaker and a teller for Stone City Bank plus a switchboard operator for Bedford Regional Medical Center and worked in research for Crane. She was a 50 year member of the Easter Star where she was a past District Deputy, Worthy Matron and Grand Representative to Kentucky. She was also an adult volunteer leader for 4-H.
Surviving with the husband of Bedford, are one son: Tom Mitchell of Sommerset, IN; three daughters: Kathy Myers of Oregonia, OH, Jean Kozak of Beltsville, MD, Pat Gramling of Ashley, IN; six grandchildren: Dennis and Brad Mitchell, Lorraine Myers, Barney, Katie and Lizzie Gramling; two brothers: John and Bob Drake; two sisters: Virginia Rockwood and Nancy Moore all of Terre Haute, IN.

Tovey – William Harvey Tovey of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, October 24, 2003, at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1924.
Surviving are his wife, Pattie Tovey of Bedford, IN; one daughter Susan McKnight Newton of Terre Haute, IN; one son, Col. Mark E. McKnight of Fort Leavenworth, KS; two brother, George Tovey of North Carolina and John Tovey of Florida; and six grandchildren.
He retired from the Bedford Fire Dept. in 1980, having served 16 years as fire chief, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Services for William Tovey will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 31st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Jones – Jimmie W. Jones, Jr., of Bedford, IN, died Friday, October 24, 2003, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born on October 10, 1978, in in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Jimmie W. and Judy (Crum) Jones.
Surviving are his father and step-mother, Jimmie W. and Susie Jones of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Mary Staggs and Peggy Stines, both of Bedford, IN, and Valerie Powers of Alexandria, IN; his maternal grandmother, Peggy Crum of Bedford, IN; his aunt, Cheryl Crum of Bedford, IN, with whom he lived; uncles and aunts: Tommy and Suzie Jones and Lonnie and Barbara Jones, all of Bedford, IN, Eddie Jones and Ricky and Mona Jones all of Springville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother; two grandfathers, Walter Crum and Oscar Jones; and one grandmother, Helen Jones.
He was employed as a waiter at Red Lobster Restaurant in Bloomington. He was of Pentecostal faith.

Moore – Merle E. Moore, Jr., of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 23, 2003, at his residence. Born on March 27, 1948, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Merle, Sr, and Mildred (Hall) Moore. He married Kathy S. Egan on February 20, 1968, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are are his mother, Mildred Moore; two daughters, Angela Crane of Springville, IN, and Melissa Moore of Bedford, IN; two sons, Merle G. Moore of Kirksville, IN, and Matthew Moore of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Larry Moore of Beulah, KY, and Tony Moore of Spencer, IN; one half-brother, Robert Hall of Everett, WA; and eight grandchildren: Jay Moore of Bloomington, IN, Jeremiah Moore, Brandon Moore, Kelsea Moore, Samantha Koska, all of Bedford, IN, Sierra Crane and Bradley Crane, both of Springville, IN, and Ashly Moore of Kirksville, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Moore, Sr.
He was a self-employed computer programmer and consultant for twelve years. He was formerly empl9yed at Thomson Consumer Electronics in Marion, IN, where he received the managerial award for work performance. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 245 in Ellettsville and the National Woodworkers Association.
Services for Merle Moore will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will be in Walker Chapel Cemetery in Kirksville, IN. Wolma – Donna G. Wolma of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 23, 2003, at Hospitality House. She was born on July 14, 1938.
Surviving are two brothers, Bert Wolma of Indianapolis, and Ben F. Wolma of New Palestine, IN; and two sisters, Bessie Clark of Dayton, OH, and Glenda of Marion, IN.

Surviving are two sons, Roger D. Edwards of California, and Robert E. Edwards of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Vada M. Pickett of Mitchell, IN, and Ruby A. Hinton of Greenfield, IN; one brother, Floyd Dunn of Arizona; two sisters, Doris Grooms of Missouri and Pauline Kindred of Martinsville, IN; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker.

Taflinger – Infant Isaac Matthew Taflinger, died shortly after birth Friday, October 17, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital. He was the son of Matthew E. and Mary Ann (Seigle) Taflinger.
Surviving are his parents of Bedford, IN; one sister, Breanna Nicole Taflinger, at home; mataernal grandparents, Paul David Seigle of Paoli, IN, and Shirley and Gary Jones of Hugo, OK; paternal grandparents, Sheila I. Ryan of Bedford, IN, Patricia L. Taflinger of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Michael S. Taflinger.

Blake – James R. Blake of Bradenton, FL, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at the Braden River Nursing Home in Bradenton, FL. Born on August 8, 1940, in Cloverport, KY, he was the son of George Riley and Rosella (Holmes) Blake.
Surviving are four daughters: Fonda Sue Schwindt of Winslow, IN, Cynthia Ann Jarrett of Mitchell, IN, Brooke Cheyenne Blake of Orange County, IN, and Peggy Jo Blake of Georgia; one son, James Riley Blake, Jr. of Washington; his father, George R. Blake of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Georgette M. Davis of Bedford, IN, and Ann Dotts of Mitchell, IN; three brothers: Guy Blake of Mitchell, IN, Henry Blake of Oolitic, IN, and Joe Blake of Sparksville, IN; and five grandchildren.
He was employed at Tropicana Company and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Martin – Brandon Allen Martin of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 7, 1988, he was the son of Rex and Ruth (Moore) Martin.
Surviving are his parents of Bedford, IN; four aunts: Carolyn Pruitt and her husband, Jerry, of Columbus, IN, Judy Deckard and her husband, Gary, of Ohio, Janet Bowling and her husband, Mike, of North Vernon, IN, and Elizabeth Mullis and her husband, David, of Bedford, IN; three uncles, Ed Moore and his wife, Patsy, and John M. Moore, all of Bedford, IN, and Richard Martin and his wife, Jennifer, of Florida; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Andrew Frye; paternal grandparents, Emma and Freeman Martin; and maternal grandparents, Harold and Mary Jane Moore.
He was associated with the Free Methodist Church, a participant of Special Olympics, having won three Gold Medals and the Director's Award for Exceptional Character. He had just returned from an Indiana Wish Foundation vacation to Disney World in Orland, FL.

Wade – John E. Wade of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at his residence. Born on February 25, 1945, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Benjamin and Effie (Davis) Wade. He married Patricia Fish on May 1, 1964, and she died August 4, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Tim Wade of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Lora Kollmeyer of Odon, IN; three brothers: George Wade of Shoals, IN, William Wade of Gosport, IN, and Paul E. Wade of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Marie Siedle of Bloomington, IN, Betty Ferguson of Odon, IN, and Joan Edwards of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Floyd, Gordon, and Benny Wade; and one sister, Dorothy Wade.
He was a 1963 graduate of Odon High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed as housekeeping supervisor at Dunn Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Bedford Boat and Sportsman's Club and the Beulah AME Church in Washington, IN.

Edwards – Robert W. Edwards of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on October 23, 1935, in Orleans, IN, he was the son of Robert E. and Rachel (Jenkins) Edwards. He married Wanda Terry on June 3, 1955, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Ada Reynolds and her husband, Danny, of Mitchell, IN, and Carol Jack of Bloomington, IN; her mother, Rachel Edwards of Orleans, IN; one brother, Lee Edwards of Mitchell, IN; three sisters: Sue Edwards and Tommy Knight, both of Orleans, IN, and Brenda Burns of Mitchell, IN; and three grandchildren: Laura Powell of Greenwood, IN, Aaron Powell of Terre Haute, IN; and David Jack of Bloomington, IN.
He was a supervisory custodian and bus driver for Mitchell Community Schools and a 1954 graduate of Orleans High School. He was the founder of the Clothe A Child project in Mitchell, a former member of the Mitchell JayCees, and a member of Tulip Street Christian Church.
Services for Robert Edwards will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17th, at Tulip Street Christian Church with Bros. Max Timbrook and Darrin Chastain officiating. Horner – Donovan L. Horner of Tunnelton, IN, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at his residence. Born on June 4, 1922, in Tunnelton, IN, he was the son of Tom and Frieda (Rimkey) Horner. He married Gladys Lemons on March 15, 1957, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are one brother, Jim Horner of Tunnelton, IN; and one sister, Mary Romolo of Trenton, NJ. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert Horner (in infancy), Thomas Laverne Horner, and Jack Horner.
He retired as a truck driver for General Motors, with 30 years of service, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a staff sergeant during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 of Bedford and the V.F.W. of Oolitic.

Nadeau – Ronald Nadeau, Sr. of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, in Scottsburg. Born on April 28, 1945, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Lawrence Albert and Ruth (Fish) Nadeau.
Surviving are one son, Ronald Lee Nadeau, Jr. of Paoli, IN; three daughters: April Hardin of Hanover, IN, Jennifer Gillum of Bedford, IN, and Julie Sowder of Fort Benning, GA; two brothers, Darwin and Richard Gilliatt, both of Salem, IN; two sisters, Tresa Hurst of Pekin, IN, and Neva Harmon of Birmingham, AL; his caregive and former wife, Paula Jones of Scottsburg, IN; and four grandchildren: Benjamin and Josh Nadeau and Tyler and Ashley Maness. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-fathers, Russell Gilliatt.
He was employed at Visteon and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, V.F.W., the American Legion Post of Salem, and was of the Baptist faith.

McPike – Earline McPike of Oolitic, IN, died Monday, October 13, 2003, at her residence. Born on March 7, 1915, in Flora, IL, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Eva (Maxwell) Moore. She married George W. McPike on July 25, 1935, and he died June 11, 1996.
Surviving are one daughter, Sharon R. Reynolds of Oolitic, IN; one son-in-law, John H. Childress of LaCenter, KY; four grandsons, Monty Joe Childress and family of LaCenter, KY, Norris Gene Reynolds and his wife of Fayetteville, IN, Bradley Joseph Simmons and Michael McPike Simmons, both of Bedford, IN; three granddaughters: Cathy Ann Terrell and family of Barlow, KY, Loretta Kay Denny and family of Fayetteville, IN, and Jenny Lynn Reynolds and family of Oolitic; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Sondra Ann Childress and Sue Ellen McPike; five sisters: Lula Henson, Marie Burton, Juanita Phillips, Pauline Moore, and Alma Delpha; and two brothers, Elbert A. Moore and James Edward Moore.
She was a homemaker and was employed briefly by RCA, Reliance Manufacturing Co., and J. C. Penney. She was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Lydia Circle. She was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital and a former member of the Order of the Easter Star.

Sasser – Eva J. Sasser of Bedford, IN, died Monday, October 13, 2003, at her residence. Born on February 8, 1912, in Tateville, KY, she was the daughter of Samuel and Cordella (Lewis) Colyer. She married Cecil Sasser on November 20, 1929, and he died on August 5, 1987.
Surving are one son, Alben Sasser and his wife, Jonna of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Betty Goodman and Alma Arthur and her husband, Kenneth, all of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren: Melissa Hassler and her husband, Don, Tracy Greene and her husband, Jim, Scott Sasser and his wife, Angie, and Adam Sasser and his wife, Dana, all of Bedford, IN; six great-grandchildren: Brooke Sasser, Angel Eva Goodman, John Cecil Wolff, Emily Miller, Sadie Sasser, and Zachary Sasser. She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers: Everett, Delbert, Cecil, and Edward Colyer; and five sisters: Flossie Nicholas, Helen Godsey, Frona Jones, Marie Shepherd, and Edith Strunk.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church.

Allen – Wilma F. Allen of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born October 15, 1913, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Hervie A. and Mammie (Dixon) Wicker. She married Ray B. Allen on February 24, 1933, and he died October 9, 1989.
Surviving are one son, Dwight Allen of Indianapolis; one daughter, Geneva Hilleke of Seymour, IN; nine grandchildren: Sarah Sweeney of Brownstown, IN, Barbara Stuckwish of Seymour, IN, Diane Tormoehlen of Brownstown, IN, Joseph Hilleke of Noblesville, IN, Mary Anderes of Seymour, IN, Margaret Tormoehlen of Brownstown, IN, Teresa Goecker of Seymour, IN, Jeff Allen of Brownstown, IN, and Lisa Clark of Indianapolis; twenty-on great-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Mary Ellen Shortridge; one brother, John C. Wicker; and one great-great-grandson.
She had been employed as a cook at Purdue University for 20 years and was a 1932 graduate of Tunnelton High School. She was a member of Fairview Community Church, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star iin Leesville, and the auxiliary of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.
Services for Wilma Allen will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Patton – Linda J. (Lemen) Patton of Springville, IN, died Sunday, October 28, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on December 28, 1950, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Harold and Norma Jean (Cook) Lemen. She married James Patton on December 28, 1972, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Barbara Patton of Springville, IN, and Amy Garland of Bedford, IN; one sister, Debra Draus of Bedford, IN; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Garland of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three children: Cameron, Crystal, and James Wade Jr.

Porter – Virginia L. Porter of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Ary, KY, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on December 31, 1924, in Hinsdale, IL, she was the daughter of Walter J. and Ruth G. (Lagergren) Larson. She married Jesse Porter, Sr. on November 28, 1969, and he died January 23, 1993.
Surviving are stepdaughters: Carol Lee Fisher and her husband, Ellis, of Mitchell, IN, Nellie Chastain and her husband, Butch, of Mitchell; step-sons, Jesse Porter, Jr. and wife, Connie, of Lima, OH, Ralph Porter, Sr. and his wife, Paula, of Beaver Dam, KY; one foster sister, Ellen Stortz of Chicago, IL; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
She was a nurse, missionary, and a member of the Woodville Baptist Church.
Services for Virginia Porter will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14th, in Lotts Creek Church in Hazard, KY, with the Rev. William Owens officiating. Stroud – Lavere Dean Stroud of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at his residence. Born February 11, 1932, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Walter and Inez (Louden) Stroud. He married Shirley Helmbrecht on November 10, 1956, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are his parents, Walter and Inez Stroud of Shoals, IN; two sons, Scott Stroud and his wife, Laura, of Bedford, IN, and David Stroud of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Sherri Stroud of Mitchell, IN; three brothers: Russell Stroud of Shoals, IN, Rex Stroud of Williams, IN, and William Stroud of Greenwood, IN; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Jami Stroud, both of Bedford, IN; He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Zumhingst.
He retired from Hooks Pharmacy in Bedford as a stock supervisor and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.
Services for Lavere Stroud will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Paul Neuman officiating. Armstrong – Harriet J. Armstrong of Springville, IN, died Friday, October 10, 2003, at Bell Trace Health and Living Center in Bloomington, IN; Born on March 16, 1934, in Streator, IL, she was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Clark) Crum. She married Virgil Armstrong on October 17, 1954, in Streator, IL, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one son, Joseph Armstrong and his wife, Sheri, of Muncie, IN; one daughter, Karen Armstrong and her fiance, Larry White, of Springville, IN; four granddaughters: Arika, Kaylin, and Alexis Armstrong, all of Muncie, IN, and Sarah Armstrong of Springville, IN; and one grandson, Brian White of Bloomfield. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a homemaker and was part owner of Harvi Hill Farms, and had worked with the Community Action Program in Bloomington. She was a member of Bethel Christian Church, Indiana Christmas and Mid-America Tree Growers Association.
Services for Harriet Armstrong will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, October 13th, at the Bethel Christian Church with Don Myers and Keith Chanley officiating. Burial will follow in Dishman Cemetery in Greene County. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the service time Monday at the Bethel Christian Church. Bray – Ruby M. Bray of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on October 18, 1944, in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of Ward and Mary (Baker) Harp. She married LeRoy D. Bray on October 31, 1960, and he died February 6, 1991.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Bray and his wife, Laura, of Bloomington, IN; three daughters: Robin Robbins and her husband, Kenny, of Williams, IN, Lisa Bray of Mitchell, IN, and Leslie Lintz and her husband, Rick, of Bedford, IN; two brothers, George Harp and his wife, Jane, and Allen Harp and his wife, Sara; one sister, Marie Medley and her husband Bill; and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She was a certified nurse assistant for the Hospitality House and was a member of the New Union Christian Church.
There will be graveside services for Ruby Bray at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 10th, at the New Union Christian Cemetery with Paul Shelton officiating. Ball – Faye Ball of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Huron, IN, died Monday, October 6, 2003, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on March 28, 1899, in Montpelier, OH, she was the daughter of Fred and Fanny Lewis. She married Dewey Ball and he died on May 28, 1979.
Surviving are one daughter, Naomi Landreth and her husband, Bob, of Mitchell, IN; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Robert D. Ball; and one brother, Frank Lewis.

Hunsucker – A. Wilson Hunsucker of Bedford, IN, died Monday, October 6, 2003, at his residence. Born on January 6, 1926, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Morris A. and Zora (Chapman) Hunsucker. He married Barbara J. Watts on October 23, 1947, and she died on November 15, 2001.
Surviving are one son, Devin L. Hunsucker and his wife, Barbara, of Evansville, IN; one daughter, Cathy J. Burns and her husband, Charles, of Linton, IN; one sister, Minerva Hunsucker of Bedford, IN; four grandchildren, Todd Hunsucker of Waterford, WI, Keri Key of Galveston, IN, Matthew Burns of Milan, Italy, and Elizabeth Brown of St. John's, MI; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Delpha Mills; and three brothers, William A., John, and Olin Hunsucker.
He was a salesman for M&F Vending, retiring in 1988 with more than 30 years of service, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was of Baptist faith and was a member and past commander of Cecil C. Martiin American Legion Post No. 250.

Kern – Erwin S. Kern of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, October 4, 2003, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. He was born on January 14, 1912.
Surviving are his caregivers, Mike and Bonnie Johnson of Bedford, IN.
He was retired from the payroll division of GM Powertrain and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the chaplain division during World War II.

Kelley – Mary V. Kelley of Bedford, IN, died Friday, October 3, 2003, at White River Lodge. Born on November 11, 1912, in in Jackson County, IN, she was the daughter of Stanley and Goldie (Henderson) Clark. She married Harlon Kelley on August 25, 1928, and he died on August 7, 1990.
Surviving are three sons: William Kelley and his wife, Paloma, of Bloomington, IN, Stanley Kelley and his wife, Georgia, of Springville, IN, and Jack D. Kelley and his wife, Renie, of Mitchell, IN; five daughters: Joan Wubben and her husband, Bob, of Springville, IN, Norma Mikels and her husband, Gene, and Beverly Fletcher and her husbad, Rev. Larry Fletcher, all of Springfield, MO; Vera York and Rebekah Goss, both of Bedford, IN; seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister, and four grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Life Tabernacle in Springville.

Fortner – Mildred Fortner of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, at the Hospitality House. Born on May 27, 1917, in Bono Township (Lawrence County), IN, she was the daughter of Kelly Lester and Pearl (Gordon) Smith. She married Arthur Denzil Fortner on March 15, 1941, and he survives.
Surviving with her husband are one daughter, Linda Diana Chastain and her husband, J. Keith, of Lakewood, CO; one son, Donald Eugene Fortner and his wife, Susan, of Elwood, IN; four grandchildren: Timothy Chastain, Kelly Chastain, Jason Fortner, and Laura Bubp; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Maude Granecki.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 1935 graduate of Campbellsburg High School.
Services for Mildred Fortner will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 6th, at the First Baptist Church in Mitchell with the Rev. Mark Pittman and Robert Kirkman officiating. Geabes – Paul Stephen Geabes of Johnstown, CO, formerly of Bedford and Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at North Shore Medical Center in Loveland, CO. Born on August 13, 1917, in Patricksburg, IN, he was the son of John and Emma (Spreen) Geabes. He married Mildren Tovey on January 16, 1941, in Lawrence County, IN, and she died on April 13, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Rick Geabes of Johnstown, CO; one brother, George Geabes of Seymour, IN; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Lee Geabes.
He was the retired owner of the Ideal Shoe and Sporting Goods Store, formerly in Bedford, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Air Corps, and the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a former chairman of the Lawrence County Red Cross, former assistant chairman of the Regional Red Cross Board of Louisville, a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge, Power Squadron, and and served ont he board of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a graduate of Bedford High School and a member of the First Christian Church of Mitchell and Moores Ridge Church of French Lick.
Services for Paul Geabes will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 6th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of American Legion Gillen Post # 33. Melton – William Melton of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 28, 1923, in Glasgow, KY, he was the son of Thomas L. and Frances (Johnson) Melton. He married Annie Bell Riddle on December 16, 1942, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Mary Frances Terrell and her husband, Bill, Linda Hoppe and her husband, Danny, and Brenda Gilstrap, all of Mitchell, IN; one son, Jerry Melton ad his wife, Mary Lou, of Bedford, IN; one sister, Delia Perkins of Summer Shade, KY; two brothers, Lloyd Melton of Mitchell, IN, and Billy Melton of Louisville, KY; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nellie Sue Slaten; and one sister, Mary Lizzie Pittman.
He retired from the City of Mitchell as street commissioner with 16 years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was a member of Mt Pisgiah Church in Bow, KY.
