STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2025) – State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) recently honored Heltonville resident and Naval Support Activity Crane advocate Matt Craig with the Circle of Corydon Award.
Craig is retiring as the director of Crane Community Support for Radius Indiana, where he worked to strengthen NSA Crane's advocacy network. He also collaborated with Radius Indiana's business development team to enhance research opportunities and stimulate investment in the region.
"Matt embodies the drive, perseverance and passion for his community that is worthy of the Circle of Corydon Award," May said. "I am proud to present him with this award for the lasting impact he has made in Southwest Indiana."
May said Craig had a crucial role in enhancing the regions collaboration with NSA Crane through initiatives such as the White River Military Coordination Alliance and the Crane Regional Defense Group, which he helped establish and will benefit Southern Indiana within the defense ecosystem for generations to come.
Craig previously retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division after 30 years of service, where his last appointments included deputy technical director and interim technical director. He also held positions at NSWC Crane as director of the Microwave Systems and the Spectrum Warfare departments, as well as manager of the Radar and Microwave Technology business units.
Craig began his career as a radio electronics technician in the Indiana Army National Guard and then served in the U.S. Navy as a fire control radar technician and leading petty officer. His memberships include the American Society of Naval Engineers, the National Defense Industrial Association, and the Association of Old Crows.
Craig has also received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his contributions to Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane for helping the installation operate more efficiently and effectively. Gov. Mike Pence also awarded him the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor the governor can bestow, which is presented to distinguished Hoosiers who have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana.
