BLOOMINGTON (May 1, 2024) – Indiana University Health announced that CarDon & Associates and the Moore-Headley families have made a gift of $1.5 million to IU Health. The gift creates an endowed fund that will provide sustained support for eldercare programs, services and resources with a focus on people living with dementia. The fund will also support workforce development of people in the field of eldercare. IU Health will match the gift, bringing its impact to $3 million.

“Caring for the elderly requires a special kind of compassion, dedication and empathy, and the Moore-Headley family exemplifies these qualities in abundance,” said Denzil Ross, president of IU Health South Central Region. “Their unwavering commitment to the well-being and comfort of our elderly community members is truly commendable.”

CarDon & Associates was founded in 1977 by Carroll and Donna Moore (hence the name, Car plus Don) and opened its first senior living community in Greenwood, Ind., in 1977. Their six children worked in that eldercare community, and today, four of those children – who comprise the Moore-Headley families -- carry on their parents’ commitment to quality senior living communities.

“IU Health is profoundly grateful to the Moore and Headley families and CarDon and Associates for their transformational approach in addressing the unique needs of the aging population and the nationwide shortage of people to care for them,” said Crystal Miller, president of IU Health Foundation and Chief Philanthropy Officer for IU Health. “Visionary philanthropists are vital to our ability to look beyond today, to think innovatively, to stretch further, to accelerate implementation, to take the risks that lead to breakthroughs.”

The gift was announced during a celebration of the donors on April 30, 2024 and will be facilitated by IU Health Foundation.

Supporting eldercare is a cause that deserves attention and gratitude. The generosity shown by the Cardon and Moore-Headley families will have a lasting impact on the well-being of seniors in the community. As we continue to improve eldercare services, it’s essential to also consider the importance of palliative care chicago, which focuses on providing comfort and dignity to those with serious illnesses. Combining these efforts ensures that seniors receive comprehensive care that addresses both their physical and emotional needs.
