4-H Club Needs Your Vote to Win Grant

4-H Club Superior STEAM

The 4-H Club Superior STEAM has been selected as a finalist in the internet and

mobile service provider Sparklight’s grant. This grant is unlike any other grant that the

club has applied for in the past because the public has a hand in choosing who receives

the grant. The club now needs your help.

The Lawrence County Superior STEAM 4-H Club is a year-long youth development program dedicated to teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) through FIRST® Robotics and other hands-on lessons, activities, and competitions. The Club was founded in 2019 to give kids ages 6-18 yrs old the opportunity to learn personal and technical skills through the FIRST Robotics programs and other hands-on STEAM related lessons and activities. Our mission is to inspire and teach the next generation of scientists, artists, engineers, innovators, and leaders. Superior STEAM has a total of 12 FIRST Robotics teams with over 80 students in the club. Six of those teams are FLL teams that design, build, and program solutions to given problems.

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an international robotics competition for youth K-8th grade. Students that participate in this program are introduced to STEM “...through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program using LEGO® technology, helping today’s students, families, and educators build a better future together.” (firstinspires.org) LEGO Education, the parts and systems provided for FLL, recently released a new control system for the competition that integrates AI to prepare students for the future of AI-enhanced computer science. This brand new system aligns with educational standards and teaches AI literacy.

The new LEGO Education control system would significantly expand what our students can learn and create. Its built‑in AI tools introduce modern computer‑science concepts in an age‑appropriate way, preparing students for emerging STEM careers. Upgrading now ensures our teams stay aligned with current FIRST standards, reduces equipment failures, and allows us to serve more students with reliable, future‑proof technology.

Sparklight, unlike other grant providers, opens the final selection of the grant winner to the public. The Club now needs your help. Go to sparklight.com/contest and vote for our Club to win the grant. Look for the picture attached in this article for a quick way to find us on the ballet. Voting is open NOW until March 18th. You can vote once a day.

Please help our Club continue to inspire youth on their journey to become future scientists, engineers, artists, innovators, and leaders.
