Smith – Ruth K. Smith of Bedford, IN, died Monday, August 31, 1998, at her daughter's home in Bedford, IN. Born on September 12, 1915, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Sanford and Rheba (Lanam) Stewart. She married Otha Smith on April 24, 1937, in Monroe County, IN, and he died September 14, 1970.
Surviving are one son, Harold R. Smith of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Freeda Brugger of Manassas, VA, and Ruby Gayle Chasteen of Bedford, IN; one sister, Dorothy Hughes of Bedford, IN; one brother, Lee Stewart of Bedford, IN; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Fred and Grant Stewart.
She was a homemaker and had worked at RCA in Bloomington. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Christian Church.

Rife – David Scott Rife of Heltonville, IN, died Saturday, August 29, 1998, at Vencor Hospital in Greenwood, IN. Born on December 27, 1960, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of David L. and Wilma (Scott) Rife. He married Doreen Brown in 1985; they divorced in 1990.
Surviving are his parents, David and Wilma Rife of Heltonville, IN; two sons, David Bradley and Jefferson Thomas Rife, both at home; one sister, Shelley Elaine Rife, at home; and his maternal grandmother, Freedona Scott of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Thomas Scott, and his paternal grandparents, Cecil and Della Rife.
He was an assembly line worker at Brunner Engineering. He was of Christian faith.

Miller – Harold Raymond Miller of Williams, IN, died Friday, August 28, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 9, 1921, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Barney and Roxie (King) Miller. He married Bettie Edwards on August 24, 1946, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David Miller and Donald Miller, both of Williams, IN; two daughters, Bonnie Qualkenbush of Orleans, IN, and Beth Robertson of Avoca, IN; four brothers: Robert Miller of Mitchell, IN, Norman Miller of Florida, Orville Miller and Marvin Miller, both of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Jeraldine Bex and Sue Beasley, both of Mitchell, IN, and Ishmael Baker of Seymour, IN; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother and one granddaughter.
After 36 years of service, he was a retired from the B&O Railroad maintenance. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Huron Baptist Church.

Turner – Winfred W. Turner of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 28, 1998, at his residence. Born on February 4, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ezra and Clonie Fay (Allen) Turner. He married Mae Watkins on November 10k 1937, and she survives.
Also surviving are one brother, Cecil Turner of Oolitic, IN, three nephews, and two nieces. He was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Eads, and two brothers, Johnny Turner and Ervin Turner.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane. He was a member of the Judah Church of Christ, N.A.R.F.E. and A.A.R.P.
Services for Winfred Turner will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 3st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Larry Ritter and Frank Binford officiating. Burial will be in the Judah Cemetery. Hale – Dorothy Hale of Indianapolis, IN, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, at Hendricks Community & Danville Hospital in Danville, IN. Born on September 17, 1998, in Bloomington, IN, she was the daughter of Marshall and Mabel (Baldwin) Butcher. She married Lloyd Shipley in 1937 and he died in 1941. She then married George H. Hale in 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1973.
Surviving are one son, George Hale of Plainfield; four daughters, Evelyn Stewart of Barnesville, GA, Joan Love of Martinsville, IN, Debbie Coble and Rita Kay Crawford, both of Indianapolis; two sisters, Betty Pelfree of Illinois and Louise Heady of Columbus, IN; two brothers, Marshall Butcher, Jr. of Florida, and Earl Butcher of Seymour, IN; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Butcher, and four sisters, Helen Butcher, Edna Butcher, Norma Sparks, and Margaret Vaught.
She was a homemaker and of Pentecostal faith.

Lee – Hazel M. Lee of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on September 3, 1910, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Edgar and Effie (Gabbert) Stipp. She married Floyd F. Lee on February 22, 1952, and he died November 5, 1986.
Surviving are two step-sons, Dallas Lee of Bedford, IN, and Richard Lee of Bloomington, IN; one step-daughter, Vivian Taylor of Bedford, IN; nine step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brother, Lloyd and Carl Stipp; and two sisters, Louis Harrell and Mary A. Norris.
She had been a waitress at several restaurants and had worked at Miller's Carton Factory. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.

Pruett – Mary E. Pruett of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on June 22, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Bill and Tinsy (Fleetwood) Duncan. She married B. Frank Pruett on May 3f0, 1942, in Lawrence County, IN, and he died in 1993.
Surviving are one daughter, Molly Grubb of Bedford, IN; two sons, James Pruett of Bedford, IN, and Jeffrey Pruett of Mobile, AL; one brother, Walter "Bud" Duncan of Florida; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
She worked in Pruett's Bakery and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Sehr – John D. Sehr of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Born on February 2, 1957, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of John J. and Ruth Evelyn (Miller) Sehr. He married Mary Letherbury and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Drew Sehr of Bedford, IN; his father, John Sehr of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Ralph D. Sehr of Charlestown, IN, and Andrew J. Sehr of Bedford, IN; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, his step-mother, Patricia Sehr, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A 1975 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, he worked on the assembly line at Ford Electronics and Refrigeration Corp. He was active in Boy Scout Troop No. 332.

West – Mary Catherine West of Springville, IN, died Monday, August, 1998, at her residence. Born on February 3, 1919, in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of Ben and Ossie (Kinder) Ray. She married Victor West on February 19, 1938, and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Vicky Whit of Springville, IN; two sons, Wendell and Lester West, both of Springville; one sister, Minnie Hovis of Shoals; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Lonnie West, one brother, one sister, one half-brother, one half-sister, and one grandson.
She was retired from Sarkes-Tarzian and was a member of the Hobbieville Community Church.

Baker – Helen L. Baker of Lawrence County (Bartlettsville area), IN, died Sunday, August 23, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on February 6, 1928, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Delmer and Lora (Kirk) Smale. She married William E. Baker in September, 1984, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bruce Kern of Mitchell, IN, and Philip Kern of Bedford, IN; three step-daughters, Chris Peter of Odon, IN, Faye Brown of Bedford, IN, and Cathy Baker of Avoca, IN; three sisters: Gertrude Goodman and Florence Sowder, both of Heltonville, IN, and Emma Lee Johnson of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parens; one sister, Marjie Ford; and one brother, Jerry Smale.
A 1946 graduate of Heltonville High School, she was a secretary for Emery Real Estate, from which she retired in 1987. She attended Heltonville Baptist Church.

Drumb – Ida Elizabeth Drumb of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 23, 1998, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on April 28, 1904, she was the daughter of Preston and Jane (Taylor) Turpin. She married David F. Drumb on June 25, 1921, and he died September 30, 1981.
Surviving are one daughter, Dollie Mae White of Bedford, IN; two sons, Elmer Drumb of Bedford, IN, and Harold Drumb of Terre Haute, IN; two granddaughters whom she adopted, Agnes and Sharon Drumb, both of Bedford, IN, and one grandson. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Sanders – Nadine V. Sanders of Mitchell, IN, died on Saturday, August 22, 1998, at her residence. Born on March 24, 1939, in Crawford County, IN, she was the daughter of Simon A. and Alice (Waddle) Wright. She married John E. Sanders on Dec. 26, 1960, and he survives.
Also surviving are five sons: Michael, Marty, Kenny, and Donald Sanders, all of Mitchell, IN, and Randy Sanders of Paoli, IN; one daughter, Tresa I. Kane of Mitchell, IN; four sisters: Mary Howe and Starlyn Terrell, both of Orleans, IN, Geneva Slayten of Mitchell, IN, and Tanya Seitz of DePauw, IN; five brothers: Philip Wright of Dubois, IN, Roy Wright of French Lick, IN, Jim Wright of Paoli, IN, Clois Wright of Georgia, and Lloyd Wright of Linton, IN; fourteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Oris Abel; and two brothers, Charles and Frank Wright.
She was a member of the Mitchell First Church of God and had been employed at Older American Services.

Traveny – Henry Charles Traveny of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, August 22, 1998, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on November 29, 1934, in Morrisdale, PA, he was the son of John and Marie (Lassek) Traveny. He married Lois Stewart on August 4, 1967, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Hildi Finberg of Florida; and two step-sons, Glen McCleery of Bedford, IN, and Paul McCleery of Fort Myers, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A member of United Auto Workers Local No. 440, he was retired from General Motors Powertrain. He was a member of the Morrisdale Methodist Church in Pennsylvania.

Level – Ruth E. Level of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 21, 1998, at her residence. Born on September 14, 1953, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Everett L. and Ordella Mae (Marsh) Speer. She married Larry D. Level on May 9, 1981, in Lawrenceville, IL, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kelly Lynn of Mitchell, IN, and Jennifer Coates of Hardinsburg, IN; three sisters, Mary Lou Speer and Lois Speer, both of Bedford, IN, and Donna McPherson of Medora, IN; three brothers: William Herbert Speer of Bedford, IN, Hubert Lee Speer of Orlando, FL, and Gary Dean Speer of Gatesville, TX; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Wanda Joy Piatt.
She was a certified nursing aide at Fontainbleu Nursing Home in Bloomington and was a former employee of Westview Manor Nursing Home in Bedford. She attended the Friendly Bible Church.

Bunch – John H. Bunch of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, August 20, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on December 26, 1923, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Thomas and Vella (Miller) Bunch. He married Betty Brown on July 16, 1979, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Rita Lee of Seymour, IN; one step-son, Robert Brown of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Stanley Bunch of Bloomington, IN; two sisters, Marilyn Logsdon of Bedford, IN, and Marie Woodward of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
He was a retired employee of Ingalls Stone Company and was a World War II Army veteran.
The body will be cremated, and there will be no service or visitation. Chastain Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bialy – Michael J. Bialy of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, August 19, 1998, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Born on July 29, 1969, in Michigan, he was the son of Ted and Jan (Blaser) Bialy. He married Janet Burrows and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mikaela Ann Bialy, at home; father and step-mother, Ted and Shirley Bialy of Bedford, IN; mother, Jan Bialy of Bedford, IN; one brother, Scott Bialy of Ellettsville; paternal grandparents, Florence and Harry Bialy St. of Monroe, MI; and maternal grandmother, Ida Blaser of Carlton, MI.
A veteran of the Gulf War, he was a financial advisor for Avco Finance and a member of the Catholic Church.
There will be no services. Brock – Gerald "Dick" Brock of Williams, IN, died Wednesday, August 19, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on April 26, 1922, in Greene County, IN, he was the son of Merton and Mona (Swayze) Brock. He married Dorothy Harrell on May 18, 1946, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Leeann Brock of Bedford, IN; two sons: William Brock of Mitchell, IN, and Richard Brock of Williams, IN; one brother, Kenneth Brock of Bedford, IN; one sister, Phyllis Guthrie of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Brock.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 159th Liaison Squadron, the 3rd Air Commando in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. A life-long farmer, he retired from General Motors. He was past board member of the Williams Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the Free Methodist Church, the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, the United Auto Workers Local No. 440, and the Jim Guthrie Historical Society.

Clark – C. Wayne Clark of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, August 19, 1998, at Hospitality House. Born on May 26, 1920, in Oolitic, IN, he was the son of William Jackson and Ollie Rebecca (Hayes) Clark. He married Ruth Maxine Myers on July 19, 1971, in Lawrenceville, IL, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Ruth Woodring of Richardson, TX, and Nancy Beth Clark of Tucson, AZ; two sons: William Jackson Clark of Bedford, IN, and David Wayne Clark of Miami Beach, FL; one sister, Lois Roberts of Tunica, MI; one sister-in-law, Pearl Clark and Mitchell, IN; one grandson, one niece, and several great-nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
He was a supervisor of Philco Electronics and had been a Civil Service employee for 26 years at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, retiring as a programs analyst. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Jim Guthrie Historical Society, and the Heltonville Veterans Association. He received a master's degree in business from Indiana University and was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Baumunk – Emilie Sowder Baumunk of Ruskin, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, August 18, 1998, at South Bay Hospital in Tampa, FL. Born on August 3, 1915, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Talmadge and Lula (Stewart) Donica. She married Vernon Sowder and he preceded her in death. She married Carl L. Baumunk and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Vernon Sowder of Bowling Green, IN, Gales Sowder of Bedford, IN, and David Sowder of Danville, IN; one daughter, Diane Wilson, of Mooresville, IN; two brothers, Glen Donica of Bedford, IN, and Wayne Donica of Martinsville, IN; one sister, Mae Moore of Bedford, IN; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Stockman – Odean Bob Stockman of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, August 18, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 27, 1927, in Charleston, MO, he was the son of Thomas and Gertrude (West)Stockman. He married Jane Wubben on September 19, 1958, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters: Debbie Krinhagen of Palm Bay, FL, Peggy Ingle of Clarksville, TN, and Bobbi McLain of Bedford, IN; one son, James Stockman of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Mary Larson of Ecorse, MI, Nellie Maupin of Sikeston, MO, and Christine Soltys of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Oscar Stockman of Clay City, KY; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War, and retired from General Motors. He was a member of United Auto Worker Local No. 440 and the Bullets Creek Baptist Church.

Perry – Benjamin Kenneth Perry, infant son of Danny and Amber (Burgess) Perry of Mitchell, IN, was stillborn Monday, August 17, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are one brother, Kody Perry, at home; the paternal grandparents, Daniel and Jenny Perry of Bedford, IN; the maternal grandparents, Kevin and Donna Burgess of Bedford, IN; the paternal great-grandparents, John and Sharon Turner of Bedford, IN; the maternal great-grandparents, Asa Burgess, Elizabeth Burgess, Mary Corey Hall, all of Bedford, IN, and Everett and Yvonne Corey of North Vernon, IN. He was preceded in death by paternal great-grandparents Richard and Esther Perry.
His parents are member of the White River Baptist Church.

Triplett – Carol S. Triplett of Huron, IN, died Sunday, August 16, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 25, 1940, in Colson, KY, she was the daughter of Dewey and Alpha Gay (Diamond) Baker. She married Ton Triplett on April 20, 1957, and he survives.

Baker – Marcella Baker of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 14, 1998, at her residence. Born on June 16, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Hubert and Pearl (Eggers) Craig. She married James Leroy Baker on September 6, 1939, and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sherry Baker of Mitchell, IN; her father, Hubert Craig, of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Lavella Fodrill and Jean Baker, both of Bedford, IN, and Pam Neeley of Martinsville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and one brother, Kenneth Craig.
She was a homemaker and a member of Dive Christian Church.

Bohenkamp – Blais Matthew Bohenkamp, newborn son of Ethan and Brandi Bohenkamp died Friday, August 14, 1998 at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born Friday at the Indiana University Medical Center.
Surviving with with parents are two sisters, Elizabeth and Victoria Austin, both at home, the maternal grandparents, Matthew and Gayle Kesterson of Mitchell, IN; and the paternal grandparents, Stephen Bohenkamp of Mitchell, IN, and Tina Dunphy of Vincennes, IN.
There will be a graveside service for Blais Bohenkamp at 10:00 a.m. at Mitchell Cemetery with Brother Dwight Dunbar officiating. Chastain Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Hall – Ollie Clovis Hall of Bedford, IN, died Friday, August 14, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on February 6, 1919, in Taswell, IN, he was the son of Edd and Margaret (Morgan) Hall. He first married Mabel Taylor on February 8, 1937. He later married Phyllis A. Henderson on July 8, 1978, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth Hall of Decatur, IL, Donald Hall of Loogootee, IN, and Terry Hall of Jasper, IN; one daughter, Janice Cossler of Jasper, IN; a step-daughter, Janet Basinger of Bedford, IN; two step-sons, Dale Rainey and Greg Rainey, both of Springville, IN; one brother, Ray Hall of Orleans, IN; thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, and a grandchildren.
Serving with the U.S. Army in World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 for more than 50 years, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1868 of Oolitic, Bedford Eagles Lodge, and the Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club. He was of Protestant faith.

Barlowe – Mabel Barlowe of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, August 13, 1998, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on January 31, 1915, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Miles H. and Martha Edna (Clements) Carter. She married James H. Barlowe on September 27, 1934, and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1991.
Surviving are one son, Philip C. Barlowe of Lowell, IN; one daughter, Jamie Barlowe of Toledo, OH; three sisters, Bernice Carter, Ethel Campbell, and Lois Carter Landreth, all of Indianapolis; and two grandchildren. She was precede in death by her husband and one brother, Chester R. Carter.
She was a homemaker and a nursery school teacher, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, and an associate member of the Woman's Department Club.

Shotts – Harry T. Shotts of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, August 13, 1998. Born in Indiana on April 15, 1908, he was the son of Robert and Mary (Thomas) Shotts.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine; one son, J. Robert Shotts; one daughter, Janet (Earl) Robbins; and nineteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Woodward, in April 1998.
He was retired from General Motors and was a member of Disciples of Christ Christian Church, the Elks Lodge No. 1288 of Fort Myers, Mount Moriah Lodge No. 77, F&AM, Anderson, and Fort Myers Valley Scottish Rite.

Fleetwood – Mary Alice Fleetwood of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, August 11, 1998, at Bloomington Convalescent Center. Born on May 13, 1917, in Eureka (Lawrence County, IN), she was the daughter of Berry Isaac and Dora (Craig) Day. She married Odell (Sharkey) Fleetwood on December 24, 1942, and he survives.
Also surviving are three sisters-in-law: Doris Fleetwood of Greenwood, IN, Norma Dell Koehler of Speedway, IN, and Audrey Day of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Ethel Day, Juanita Quackenbush, and one sister in infancy; and two brothers: John F. Day and William Russell Day.
She was retired from M. Fine and Sons and was a member of the Free Methodist Church.

Troxel – Betty Lou Troxel of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, August 10, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on June 9, 1942, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William E. and Rhoda (Wilson) Martin. She married James A. Troxel on September 10, 1966, and he survives.
Also surviving are four sons: Brad Troxel of Abilene, KS, Steve Troxel of Bedford, IN, and William Troxel and Larry Troxel, both of Mitchell, IN; her mother, Rhoda Martin of Bedford, IN; one sister, Carol Clifton of Bedford, IN; two brother, Rick Martin of Bedford, IN, and Farrell Martin of Nebraska; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Sanford – Harry Richard Sanford of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 9, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on October 12, 1909, he was the son of Charles and Ethel (Sharp) Sanford. He married Wilma E. Shipman on January 24, 1953, and she died on April 7, 1997.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Cross and Charlotte Ann, both of Indianapolis; one son, Ronald Lee Sanford of Coronado, CA; two step-daughters, Joyce Barnett of Bedford, IN, and Donna Monks of Dallas, TX; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He had been a wood pattern maker for Central Foundry and had retired in 1960 from Sterling Casting in Bluffton, IN. He was of Protestant faith.

Hall – Paul "Sy" Hall of Bedford, IN, formerly of Kurtz, died Saturday, August 8, 1998, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on April 17, 1918, in Monroe County, IN, he was the son of James and Mary J. (Hillenburg) Hall. He married Anna Mae Henderson on March 17, 1939, and she preceded him in death on October 31, 1989.
Surviving are one daughter, Sherry Barrett of Norman, IN; three sons: Ronald Dean Hall of Kurtz, IN, Charles Leon Hall of Heltonville, IN, and James David Hall of Bedford, IN; two brothers< Harry Hall of Kurtz, IN, and Homer Hall of Norman, IN; fourteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and one sister.
He retired from Kieffer Paper Mill in Brownstown.

Sohn – Annabelle Sohn of Winston-Salem, NC, formerly of Bedford and Indianapolis, IN, died Saturday, August 8, 1998, in Winston-Salem, NC. Born on May j10, 1926, in Seelyville, IN, she was the daughter of Howard Peter and Ella Stephens. She married Edward J. Sohn in 1948, and he preceded her in death in March, 1998.
Surviving are one son, Edward J. Stephen Sohn of Lewisville, NC; four daughters: Vickie Lord of Winston-Salem, NC, Susan Elsea of Garland, TX, Jamie L. Lee of Carmel, IN, and Jennifer I. Robertson of Santa Cruz, CA; one sister, Virginia Vaught Hurst of Anderson, IN; and ten grandchildren.
A 1944 graduate of Bedford High School, she was a homemaker. While in Bedford, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tri Kappa, and Ideal Club. After moving to Indianapolis in 1963, she was a member of St. Margaret's Guild and the Second Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and president of the Women's Association. After relocating to Winston-Salem in 1981, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hillcrest Garden Club, Winston-Salem Symphony Guild and was a Vantage Championship volunteer for eleven years.

Heironimus – Catherine Heironimus of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, August 6, 1998, at her residence. Born on January 3, 1919, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Otis Inman and Anna Fish. Her stepfather was Elmer Fish. She married Roy Heironimus in 1944, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Tom Heironimus of Safety Harbor, FL, and Roger Heironimus of Maryville, TN; one sister, Mildred Hobson of Mitchell, IN; two brothers: Harry Inman of Greenwood and James Fish of Bedford, IN. four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
She was a homemaker and a life-long member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

Hornocker – Ruby Hornocker of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, August 4, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on September 13, 1904, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of H.M. and Josephine (Jackson) Farmer. She married James Leo Hornocker on September 9, 1922, and he died in 1977.
Surviving are two sons: James Dale Hornocker of Paoli, IN, and Marion Douglas Hornocker of Ontario, CA; two daughters: Norma Ryan of Bedford, IN, and Margaret Lantz of Arab, AL; twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Russell Hornocker; and three sisters, Minia Jewell, Ola Colvin, and Gail Hanford.
She worked as a saleslady for Woolworth's, Bee-Line Clothing, and Alden's Department Story and was an Avon representative. She was a member of the Silverville Missionary Baptist Church. Tyree – Annabelle Tyree of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, August 4, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on October 31, 1928, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Fred and Effie (Wagner) Long. She married Donald Tyree on June 1, 1947, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Richard L. Tyree of Columbus, IN; three sisters: Ruth E. Wray of Bedford, IN, Connie Stcherbinine of Vista, CA, and Marian Seibert of Gainesville, GA; and three grandsons.
After twenty-five years of service she retired from Thompson Dairy Co. in Bedford and worked for two years in the City of Bedford Clerk-Treasurer's office and in the the Lawrence County Treasurer's office. She was a member of the First Church of God, the American Business Women's Association, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Fish – Paul Fish of Heltonville, IN, died Monday, August 3, 1998, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on October 3, 1916, in Norman, IN, he was the son of Hugh and Flora (Wray) Fish. He married Bernice Cummings on December 24, 1935, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bill and Jerry Fish, both of Heltonville, IN; one daughter, Wanda Combs of Heltonville, IN; one sister, Mae Chard of Fort Wayne, IN, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Winford and Ray Fish.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mundell Christian Church.

Allen – Harriett C. Allen of Indianapolis, died Sunday, August 2, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on July 23, 1912, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Harry T. and S. Locille (Hall) (Jenkins) Matlock. She married Walter Bowman, who preceded her in death. She later married Richard Allen.
Surviving are one brother, Byrl T. Jenkins of Williams, IN; five nephews, and two nieces.
A graduate of Bedford High School, she worked as a news reporter for the Bloomington Telephone, and then as a shopping center publicity manager in Beckly, WV, Fredericksburg, VA, and Bloomington, IN. She worked with the Bedford Chamber of Commerce and helped place stone benches and trees around the Lawrence County Courthouse square. She also was a leasing and publicity manager for Speedway and Southern Plaza Shopping Centers in Indianapolis, and then worked for Gilman Shoe Co., from which she retired. She was vice president of the National Federation of Press Women for nine years, and was a founder and first president of the West Virginia Association of Press Women. She was a member of Crestview Christian Church in Indianapolis.
There will be a memorial service for Harriett Allen on Friday, August 7th, at 1:00 p.m. at Crestview Christian Church in Indianapolis. There will be a graveside service at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Beech Grove Cemetery in Bedford. There will be no visitation. Services will be under the direction of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford.
Chandler – Ruth Canada Chandler of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 2, 1998, at her residence. Born on June 15, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Milton and Anna (Pace) Canada. She first married Russell Umphress and he preceded her in death. She married Earl M. Chandler on July 3, 1940, and he survives.
Also surviving are four sons: Howard M. Chandler of Pensacola, FL, Morgan V. Chandler of Lake City, FL, Jerry M. Chandler of North Vernon, IN, and Michael E. Chandler of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Carole Anderson of Albuquerque, NM; one half-brother, James Canada of Omaha, NB; one half-sister Catherine Howell of Leesville, IN; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son in infancy, and one brother, James Eisle.
She retired from General Motors Powertrain (Central Foundry) in 1978 and was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion Auxiliaries.

Waldon – Margaret Gates Waldon of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, August 2, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on January 16, 1918, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of John and Catherine (Farrell) Gates.
Surviving are one son, Ed gates of Bloomington, IN; one sister, Catherine Reeve of Mountain Home, ID; two grandchildren, including Susan Sipes of Bedford; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Endris: and four brothers: Jack, Kenny Bud, and Carl Gates.
After thirty-five years of service at General Motors Powertrain, she retired in 1976. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Blevens – Evelyn J. Blevens of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, August 1, 1998, at Hospitality House. Born on February 23, 1922, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Mills) Thompson. She married Cecil Blevens in 1938, and he died on October 28, 1994.
Surviving are two sons: James Blevens of Lebanon, IN, and Ronald Blevens of Bedford, IN; three daughters: Betty "Suzi" Todd, Tina McKee and Janice Blevens, all of Bedford: one sister, June Kirkman of Bedford, IN; one brother, James Thompson of Florida; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Robert Cecil Blevens; one brother, Emery Thompson; and two sisters: Edna Thompson and Dorothy Coursey.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Fields – Kenneth G. Fields of Chicago, IL, died Saturday, August 1, 1998, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Born on August 17, 1924, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Alexander and Myrtle (Hatfield) Fields.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Fields; one son, Greg Fields; one daughter, Cindy King; one sister, Rhea Dawn Endris; and five grandchildren.
He was a World War II veteran and retired from Amoco.

Pickens – Hugh F. Pickens of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, August 1, 1998, at Riverfront Health and Rehab Center in Bradenton, FL. Born on September 28, 1909, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Earl and Robert (Burton) Pickens. He married Hazel Hobbs on September 3, 1930, and she died February 15, 1990.
Surviving are two daughters: Eva Curl and Joan Briner,both of Mitchell, IN; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandson.
A graduate of Mitchell High School and Purdue University, he was a retired farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bradenton, FL.
