Simmons – Lindsay Simmons of Griffith, IN, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Munster Community Hospital. Born in 1965, he was the son of Ed and Priscilla Simmons.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Simmons; two sons, Alexander Simmons and Justin Simmons; his mother of Bloomington, IN, one sister, Connie Kattner of Fort Wayne, IN; one brother, Chris Simmons of Pennsylvania; one niece, and one nephew.
A graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School and Indiana University, he was a teacher at Wilbur Wright Middle School in Munster. He had also coached eighth grade football and boys' junior varsity basketball at Munster High School.
Services for Lindsay Simmons will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 4th, at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, IN, with Msgr. Don C. Grass officiating. Craig – Ruth Evelyn Craig of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on November 27, 1928,in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Otto and Dessie (Stipp) Helton. She married Lowell Craig on July 13, 1946, and he survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Diana K. Archer of Bedford; one son, Mark Alan Craig of Bedford; four grandsons, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Helton.
She had been employed at RCA in Bloomington and was a member of the Free Methodist Church.

Fish – Marcella L. Fish of Indianapolis, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998. Born on January 4, 1922, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Floyd and May (Raines) Smith. She married Raymond Fish on February 22, 1941, in Lawrence County, and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters: Sarah Souders of Bloomington, IN, and Bonnie Davis of Peru, IN; one sister, Betty Bell of Bedford; five grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, one grandchild, her husband, and three sisters.
She was a housewife and was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Bedford.

Hackler – Donnie Lee Hackler of Mitchell, IN, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at his residence. Born on November 23, 1936, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ervin and Edith (Wright) Hackler. He married Brenda Kay McPherson, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Janis Tincher and Judy Elliott, both of Bedford; one step-daughter, Linda Keith of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Joe Baker of Cloverdale, IN, and Robert Adamson of Bedford; two half brothers, Jon Ashley Baker of Columbus, IN, and Merlin Baker of Bedford; three half sisters: Linda Dishman of Bloomington, IN, Sheila Liford of Stinesville, IN, and Millie Swanson, of Edinburgh, IN; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Baker.
He was a retired employee of River View Farms Inc. in Orleans.

Bex – Claudia J. Bex of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, from injuries suffered in an an automobile accident. Born on May 19, 1953, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Claude Duane and Donna Jean (Fields) Helton. She married Robert Bex on May 25, 1973, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Robin and Jennifer, both of Bedford; her parents, Claude and Donna Helton of Owensburg, IN; one brother, Jim Helton of Bedford; her maternal grandmother, Lillian Fields of Owensburg; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was employed at General Electric in Bloomington and was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bedford and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Fields – Rita D. Fields of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at her residence. Born on January 10, 1957, in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of Buford and Jeanette (Neal) Alcorn. She married Mark Fields on September 27, 1975, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Justin, at home; two daughters, Shannon, at home, and Angela Tritle of Cloverdale, IN; her father, Buford Alcorn of Bedford; two brothers, Dennis and Kenneth Alcorn, both of Bedford; three nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her mother.
She was employed as a buyer at Tasus Corp. in Bloomington and was a member of Crossroads Community Church.

McPike – Lucille McPike of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at her residence. Born on October 7, 1921, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Archer and Goldie (True) Green. She married Ernest McPike on June 2, 1941, and he died August 10, 1967.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Brumfield of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Pearl Endwright of Maud, OK; three granddaughters, and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, and four brothers.
She was a former employee of Reliance Manufacturing and was a member of the Fishing Creek Christian Church.

Wood — Malcolm Lee "Mike" Wood of Greenfield, IN, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, April 15, 1998, at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. Born on March 1, 1932, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Charles L. and Hazel (Stanfield) Wood.
Surviving are one daughter, Martha Weissert of Indianapolis, IN; one son, Mark Wood of Fort Lauderdale, FL; companion, Diane Shirley of Greenfield, IN; and three granddaughters.
He was a teacher in the Lawrence County School System from 1966-1977, owned the Wharf Grocery at Lake Monroe from 1975-82, and had been the owner of 10th and Post Liquor Store in Indianapolis since 1984. He earned a degree in agriculture from Purdue University and master's degree in education from Indiana University. He was an active golfer and enjoyed boating. He was a member of American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, the Elks Lodge, the Indiana Association of Beverage Retailers, the Moose Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Lawrence County Optimist Club.
There will be a brief service for Malcolm Wood at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 28th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford, where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

Phillips – Hannah Faith Phillips, infant daughter of Danny and Angie (Poole) Phillips Jr. of Springville, IN, died after birth Friday, April 24, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital.
She is survived also by one brother, Lee Phillips, at home; paternal grandparents, Danny Phillips and Susan Terrell of Springville; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Christy Poole of Springville.
There will be graveside services for Hannah Faith Phillips at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 27th, at Byers Cemetery in Springville with Pastor Ken Ransom officiating. The Day & Carter Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Silvers – Thomas L. Silvers of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 17, 1945, in Bronston, KY, he was the son of Warren E. and Mertie E. (Keith) Silvers. He married Virginia "Ginnie" Lloyd in October 1965, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy Fender and Patty New, both of Bedford; his mother and step-father, Willard and Mertie Yeskie of Oolitic, IN; three brothers: Harold G. Silvers of Marksville, LA, and Mark W. Silvers and Dennis R. Silvers, both of Bedford; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Roger W. Silvers, and one sister in infancy.
He was a twenty-year veteran of the Bedford Fire Department and a member of the Avoca Baptist Church. He was a member of Mason American Patriot Lodge No. 750, Oolitic, Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion, Bedford, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Longest – Matthew James Longest of Orleans, IN, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, from injuries suffered in an auto accident. Born on November 20, 1976, in Paoli, IN, he was the son of Robert L. and Maribell (King) Longest.
Surviving are his parents of Orleans; one brother, Robert Longest Jr. of Orleans; two sisters, Barbara Gayle Daugherty of Orleans and Sharon Yvette Moffatt of French Lick, IN; and maternal grandparents, Marilyn and Kersey King of Mitchell, IN.
He was employed as a brick mason.

Cook – Dr. Lezlie Cook of Broken Bow, NB, formerly of Bedford, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center, Grand Island, NB. Born on November 29, 1953, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Walter and June (Benham) Fiddler of Bedford. She married Mike Cook on June 7, 1975, in Mattoon, IL, and he survives.
She was a dentist. She earned a degree in dental hygiene at Lakeland College and graduated from the University of Nebraska Dental College, Lincoln, in 1991.

Cummings – George William Cummings of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on March 31, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of James David and Lena (Stipp) Cummings. He married Kathryn Gaile Todd on October 24, 1953, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Patricia Lyons of Springville, IN, and Barbara Todd of Vermillion, OH; one step-son, John Richard Flynn of Bloomington; two sisters: Thelma Breedlove of Norman, IN, and Mabel Gulley of Winchester, IN; one brother, Robert Cummings of Seymour, IN; eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, and two brothers.
He had worked at General Motors Powertrain for twenty years and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Church of God and American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Jones – Joyce Jones of Bedford died Sunday, April 19, 1998, from injuries received in an auto accident. Born on August 11, 1960, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Harold K. and Geraldine (Mitchell) Wade. She married David R. Jones, Sr. on September 15, 1996, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Carl Leonard of Bedford; one daughter, Andrea Phillips of Springville, IN; one stepson, David R. Jones, Jr. of Medora, IN; her father, Harold K. Wade of Bedford; one sister, Donna Phillips of Springville, IN; two step-sisters, Cheryl Marie Polly of Shelbyville, IN, and Cathy Ross of Bedford; one step-brother, William Rocky White of Bedford; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, one sister, Rhonda K. Wade, and one grandchild.
She was a homemaker and attended the Lutheran Church.

Hutchinson – Leah Naomi Hutchinson of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at her residence. Born on March 26, 1917, in Clay County, TN, she was the daughter of Robert and Susan (Greene) Blakey. She married Glenn Hutchinson on April 15, 1933, and he died February 25, 1985.
Surviving are two sons: Walter Hutchinson of Edinburg, IN, and Randy Hutchinson of Bedford; three daughters: Olive Bowling of Scottsburg, IN, Marian Hutchinson of Erie, PA, and Debbie Webster of Mitchell, IN; three brothers: Carlos Blakey of St. Petersburg, FL, Frank Blakey of Carmel, IN, and Robert Blakey of Fishers, IN; twenty grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons: Melvin and Arnold Hutchinson; three sisters, four brothers, and three great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Community Church, the Ladies Aid Auxiliary of Fairview Church, and the Flatwood Neighbors' Club.

Prow – Nellie Prow of Bedford died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Vencor Nursing Center in Greenwood, IN. Born on October 28, 1910 in Medora, IN, she was the daughter of Curtis and Mima (Hill) Plummer. She married Paul R. Prow, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons: John Prow of New Albany, IN, and Robert Prow of Bedford, IN; and one daughter, Lodena Solomon of Miami, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband and four brothers: Thurman, Carl, Verlin, and Stacy Plummer.
She was a member of the Bedford Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Tolbert – Hollie Tolbert of Bedford died Friday at Vencor South Hospital in Greenwood, IN. Born on October 29, 1917, in Huron, IN, he was the son of Walter and Leona (Wade) Tolbert.
Surviving are one daughter, Ruth Marie Phillips of Bedford; two sons, Walter Dale Tolbert of Bedford and Hollie Eugene "Bud" Tolbert of Columbus, IN; two sisters, Maxine Reese of Nashville, IN, and Ruth Bex of Huron, IN; two brothers, Claude Tolbert of Loogootee, IN, and Johnny Tolbert of Washington, IN; twelve grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
He was retired from Hatfield Scrap Iron and Metal in Bedford.

Wood – Mildred M. Wood of Bedford, formerly of Spencer, IN, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at Bloomington Hospitality House. Born on September 11, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James and Minnie (Patton) Reynolds. She married Paul "Gus" Wood, and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Surviving are four daughters: Rosemary Franklin of Freedom, IN, Phyllis Coffey of Bloomington, IN, Janet Evans of Bedford, and Carole Gray of New Mexico; two sons, Jerry Wood of Ellettsville, IN, and Brad Wood of Bloomington, IN; four brothers: Morris Reynolds and James E. Reynolds, both of Bedford, Thomas Reynolds o f Mitchell, IN, and Noble Reynolds of Oolitic, IN; five sisters, Josephine Farris and Dorothy Jean Philpot, both of Bedford, Lina Beth McPherson of Shoals, IN, Ruby Parenti of Cicero, IL, and Dolly Gaddy of Charlotte, N.C.; thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Donald Wood; one brother, Arlie Reynolds; two sisters, Jaunita Atteberry and Marie Boeck; and one granddaughter.
She was a homemaker and a member of Women of Moose in Bedford. She was of Protestant faith.

Bair – Janice Kay Bair of Bedford died Thursday, April 16, 1998 at Bloomington Hospital. Born on February 11, 1945, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Carroll and Ruth (Fish) Morrison. She married Andrew Bair on May 6, 1967, and he survives.
Also surviving are her parents, Carroll and Ruth Morrison of Bedford; one son, Chuck Bair of Bedford; one sister, Jeannie Holmes of Springville; two brothers: Jay and Jed Morrison, both of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was an employee of Family Healthcare Center in Bedford for seventeen years and was also a Longaberger sales consultant. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church in Bedford and 1963 graduate of Bedford High School.

Covey – Thomas Covey of Springville, IN, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on June 22, 1943, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Leroy Dale and Oneta Maxine (Roby) Covey. He married Linda Kaye Jackson, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Cheryl Gardner of Bloomington and Terri Pedro of Bedford; one son, Thomas Covey, Jr. of Springville; his father, Leroy Dale Covey of Linton, IN; one sister, Joan East of Ellettsville, IN; three brothers: Kenny Covey of Bloomington, IN, David Covey of Hardin Ridge, IN, and Rick Covey of Unionville, IN; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, one sister, Kathy English, and one grandchild.
He had been employed at Indiana University as a carpenter and was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church.

Pridemore – Gerald L. "Red" Pridemore of Mitchell died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on February 28, 1934, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Elza and Grace (Bex) Pridemore. He married Maxine Mundy on July 16, 1955, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Rick Lee Pridemore of Bloomington; two daughters: Joy Reynolds and Pam Bolton, both of Mitchell; one brother, Wayne Pridemore of Mitchell; one half-brother, Ron Pridemore of Mitchell; and three grandchildren.
He retired from Carpenter Body Works in 1987 and was a graduate of Mitchell High School.

Tincher – Gilbert Tincher of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on March 29, 1912, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of George and Lela (White) Tincher. He married Gladys Tolbert on June 6, 1931, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Peggy Wood of Mitchell; one son, Donald Tincher of Mitchell; three sisters: Pauline Merry and Charlene Williams, both of Mitchell, and Genevieve King of Huron; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and two grandchildren.
He was a retired employee of Indiana Limestone Company.

Fortner – J. T. Fortner of Bedford died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at his residence. Born on May 9, 1960, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Dale and Ethel (Carson) Fortner.
Surviving are his parents, Dale and Ethel Fortner of Bedford; one sister, Sarah Fortner Lee of Bedford; one brother, Ben Fortner of Bedford; three nephews, one niece and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He was former owner of J.T.'s Bar-B-Que in Bedford and Bloomington, and was a partner in Dale Fortner Pest Control, Inc. A 1978 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, he was a 1982 graduate of Purdue University. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford of Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

Lantz – Ernest Wayne Lantz of Bedford died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on March 6, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Jacob "Jack: and Leafie (Brown) Lantz.
Surviving are three brothers: Raymond Lantz of Bedford, Doyle Lantz of Florida, and Russell Lantz of Alabama; and one sister, Helen Allen of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Catherine Watson, and Seven brothers: Earl, Harold, Theodore, Leonard, Louie, Jackie, and Cecil Lantz.

Mounce – Charles A. Mounce of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Seymour. Born on August 4, 1939, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Greenie and Ruby (York) Mounce. He married Shirley Milligan on March 7, 1958, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Jeff and Brian "Duke" Mounce, both of Mitchell; his mother, Ruby Mounce of Mitchell; three brothers: Jake Mounce of Orleans, IN, Danny, and Bert Mounce, both of Mitchell; five sisters: Betty Hart of Norman, Dorothy Terrell, Sharon Craig, Judy Kern, and Sue Terry, all of Mitchell; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
He was an employee of Austin Powder Company in Columbus, IN.

Bacon – Allen Scott Bacon of Jasper, IN, died Friday, April 10, 1998, in Monroe County. Born on January 18, 1973, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Ronald J. Bacon and Janice L. King.
Surviving are his father, Ron Bacon of Williams; mother, Janice L. King of Bedford; paternal grandmother, Violet Bacon of Bedford; maternal grandparents, William and Helene King of DeFord, MI; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was an electronics technician at Kimble Electronics in Jasper. A 1991 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, he graduated from Vincennes University in 1993.

Bailey – Gloria Ramey Bailey, founder and owner of Bailey's Flowers and Gifts, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born in Lawrence County on November 5, 1948, she was the daughter of George T. and Ruth M. (Dye) Ramey. She married Lester Bailey on January 13, 1967, and he died December 16, 1983.
Surviving are her mother Ruth Ramey of Bedford; one son, Tracy Bailey of Bedford; one daughter, Julie Bex of Avoca; a fiance, Joseph E. Starr of Bedford; three brothers: Richard Ramey and Tom Ramey, both of Bedford, and David Ramey of Mooresville, IN; two sisters, Patricia Godsey and Donna Elkins, both of Bedford; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her father.
She was the founder and owner of Bailey's Flowers and Gifts in Bedford and was the treasurer of the Downtown Retailers Association.

Harshaw – Roscoe B. Harshaw of Mitchell died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 5, 1903, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Joseph and Mollie (Bouseman) Harshaw. He married Ruth E. White on October 16, 1930, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Waldo W. Harshaw of Loogootee, IN; one daughter, Phyllis Fox of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Ruth Jones of Bedford, IN; a daughter-in-law, Hildred Harshaw of Loogootee, IN; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Hopkins, Debbie Oliver, Matthew Harshaw, and Amy Hiott.
A 1923 graduate of Shoals High School, he also graduated from Central Normal College in Danville and attended Indiana State University, Indiana University, and Oakland City College. He was a member of National, State, and Lawrence County Retired Teacher Associations. Of his 48 year teaching career, 27 years were spent in the Martin County Schools and 21 years at Burris School in Mitchell. He retired in 1972. He was a history conservator and compiled many scrapbooks of historical events. He was a member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church and was a 50 year member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge #338 F&AM.

Mannix – Larry Emerson Mannix of Lawrenceburg, IN, formerly of Mitchell, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Cincinnati. Born on April 7, 1936, in Charlestown, IN, he was the son of Buford E. and Martha (Carpenter) Mannix. He married Mary Lee Giddings in 1955, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Mark Mannix of Orlando, FL, Larry Mannix II of Lawrenceburg, IN, and David Mannix of Batesville, IN; one daughter, Tracy Geglein of Madison, IN; two sisters: Molly Ramey of Mitchell and Susan Branaman of Bedford; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Lynn Mannix.
He was a 1954 graduate of Winter Haven High School in Florida, and attended the University of Florida. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and a member of Dearborn Hills United Methodist Church in Bright.

Smith – Gladys L. Smith of Mitchell died April 9, 1998, at her home. Born on January 31, 1912, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Paul King and Cora Lynn. She married Emery P. Smith on January 16, 1937, and he died on August 15, 1991.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Sharon Philipps of Mitchell, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
She was a teacher, teaching for most of her working life at Burris Elementary School. She also was a Sunday school teacher at First Christian Church, where she was a member. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Fleur-De-Lis and the Naomi Group of the Christian Women's Fellowship.

Joyner – Billy Joyner of Crane died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at VenCor Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on November 15, 1936, in Natchitoches, LA, he was the son of Lawrence and O'Neal (Friday) Joyner.
Surviving are two sons: Larry and Greg Joyner, both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Billie Hunter of Freetown, IN; a granddaughter, Misty Albertson, who was was raised in and still resides in the home; one half sister, Louise Schmidt of Montezuma, KS; two cousins, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Joyner.
He was a former employee of Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Shaw – Mabel C. Shaw of Bedford died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 6, 1910, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of Willis and Eliza (Lane) Bledsoe. She married Napoleon Shaw on March 5, 1934, in Jasper, IN, and he survives.
Also surviving are one son, Samuel Lee Shaw of Bedford; one sister, Ardelle Bledsoe of Shoals; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, William Shaw, five sisters, and two brothers.
She was a homemaker and a member of Englewood Baptist Church.

Fleetwood – Bill H. Fleetwood of Bloomington, IN, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Bloomington Hospital. Born in Bloomington on January 3, 1931, he was the son of William Henry and Viola (Brown) Fleetwood.
Surviving are one daughter, Marsha Patton of Solsberry, IN; four sons: Billy Fleetwood and Bobby Fleetwood, both of Bloomington, Bruce Fleetwood of Bedford, and Brian Fleetwood of Indianapolis; two sisters: Emogene Collier of Bloomington and Wilma Shannon of St. Augustine, FL; eight grandchildren, four nieces, and eight nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.
He was the owner of Fleetwood Auto Sales and owned and operated the Fleetwood DX Service Station from 1957 to 1963, which became Fleetwood Standard Service Station in 1963, which he operated until 1990. He had also owned Fleetwood's Lounge. He was a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges and was of Baptist faith.

Pentzer – Lois M. Pentzer of Bedford died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at the home of her son in Bedford. Born on June 30, 1923, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary E. (Blackburn) Fountain. She married Theodore H. Pentzer on June 28, 1947, and he died May 9, 1984.
Surviving are one son, James Pentzer of Bedford; three sisters: Mary Plake and Virginia Batman, both of Lawrence County, and Hazel Brown of Florida; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons: T. Charles and Nicholas Kent Pentzer; and two brothers, Kenneth and Louis Fountain.
She was a teacher in Lawrence County and a member of the First Christian Church, Ludeans, Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired Person, Bedford Hiking Club, Red Rose Circle, and Pink Lady Volunteers of Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Bennet – Cindy S. Bennett of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, April 6, 1998, from injuries received in a riding lawn mower accident. Born on April 17, 1955, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Patty (Wayman) Snyder. She married Larry L. Bennett on September 16, 1978, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Larry Jason and Joseph Earl Bennett, both of Mitchell; one daughter, LeAnna Sue Bennett of Mitchell; her mother and step-father, Patty and Lewis Bailey of Indianapolis; one brother, Gary Snyder of Pine Lake, FL; one sister, Patricia Hamner of Indianapolis; one step-brother, Rick Bailey of Mitchell; father and mother-in-law, Bud and Virginia Bennett of Lawrenceport; and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her father.
She was kitchen manager of Camp Rivervale at Rivervale and a graduate of Southport High School in Indianapolis.

Miller – Odes Miller of Bedford died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on September 24, 1900, in Lawrenceport (Lawrence Co.), IN, he was the son of Albert and Ida May (Todd) Miller. He married Maudie (Sheer) Stevens in 1920, and she died in 1956. He married Lula M. (Meadows) Lewis in 1956, and she died in 1975. He married Nora Elva Anderson in 1977, and she died in 1994.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth J. Miller of Bedford; one brother, Lowell Miller of Mitchell, IN; two grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren;; one niece, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marcel Miller; one son, Max Eugene Miller; four brothers, and one sister.
He was a World War I veteran, serving in the 139th Field Artillery, and was a retired stone planerman in Bedford and Kentucky. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, and was a life member of the World War I Barracks No. 533.

Owens – John M. Owens of Bedford died Monday, April 6, 1998, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 6, 1925, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Joseph Marshall and Mayme Marea (Moore) Owens. He married Sybil L. Carmichael on August 21, 1954, and she died March 10, 1998.
Surviving are one son, John M. Owens, Jr. of Hawaii; one daughter, Jami M. Ryan of Bedford; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, J. Morrell Turner.
He was a retired funeral director and chairman of the board of The Day & Carter Mortuary. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, having served on the board of deacons, on the board of elders, and several committees. He served as treasurer of the church building fund during the remodeling program. He attended Wabash College and was a graduate of Indiana University and a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was a 50-year member and past Exalted Ruler of the Bedford Elks Lodge No. 826, the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 for over 50 years, Voiture No. 1192, 40 & * of Bedford, and served on the board of directors of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce. He was a member and treasurer of the Bedford Boat & Sportsman's Club in the late 40's and early 50's, serving on the board of directors. He was a member of the Bedford Rotary Club, serving in all offices, a member and past president of the Lawrence County Pilots Association, a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the Lawrence County Aviation Commission for many years. He was also a member of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Old-timers Club, past member of the board of the Bedford Recreation Foundation, active in the Otis Park Men's Club, member of the Indiana State Seniors Golf Association, and Indiana Society of Chicago for many years.

Wilson – Everett Clay Wilson of Bedford died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Westview Nursing & Rehab Center. Born on July 9, 1918, in Gap Creek (Wayne Co.), KY, he was the son of Henry Clay and Ona Margaret (Stevens) Wilson.
Surviving are friends, John and Lou Etta Sullivan of Mitchell, IN, and other family in Mitchell.
He was a laborer with the Salvation Army Men's Centers for about 14 years, retiring in Bedford in 1981. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and was of Protestant Faith.

France – James M. France of Mitchell died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Living Center. The son of Marion and Rachel (Gladdish) France, he was born on January 29, 1916, in Vincennes, IN. He married Ellen Frazier, and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are three daughters: Judith Ann Stogsdill of California, Joyce Mae Level of Richmond, KY, and Verna Lynn France of Bedford; two brothers: Richard W. France of Illinois and Gorney France of Chicago; one sister, Ethyl Dillnger of Vincennes, IN; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, seven brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.
He was retired from GM Powertrain with twenty-one years of service and was of Baptist faith.
There will be graveside services for James France at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 6th, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Brother Darrin Chastain officiating. There will be no visitation. Chastain Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Painter – Flo B. Painter of Mitchell died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Mitchell Manor Born in Dubois County, IN, on March 26, 1908, she was the daughter of Nofel and Amanda (Phillips) Nicholson. She married Doyle Painter on June 24, 1926, and he died January 8, 1977.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters.
She was the owner of Painter Cabinets in Mitchell and had worked as a dietitian for Medco Annex in French Lick. She was a member of the Mitchell First Baptist Church and Mary and Martha Club.

Woodward – Barbara Woodward of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, in Fort Myers. Born in Bedford, IN, on April 30, 1933, she was the daughter of Harry and Maxine Shotts. She married Ronald Woodward, and he died April 17, 1991.
Surviving are her parents of Florida; three daughters: Stephanie Kluesner and Susan Spainhour, both of Florida, and Terry Evans of Bedford; one son, Timothy Woodward of Georgia; and eight grandchildren.

Younger – Lucille Garvel Younger of Mitchell died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born August 24, 1896. She married Charley Younger on May 5, 1926, and he died in 1985.
Surviving are one daughter, Bernice Sauer, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Cumming – Sylvia Cumming of Bedford died Friday, April 3, 1998, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on April 20, 1910, in Slater, OA, she was the daughter of Edwin and Julia (Holcomb) Rood. She married George Cumming on January 1, 1932, and he died January 12, 1997.
Surviving are two sons: Alexander "Alec" Cumming of Mattawan, MI, and Dr. James Cumming of Indianapolis; one brother, Phillip Rood of Slater, IA; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Jody Dyer, and one sister, Eva Huffman.
She was a homemaker and retired office manager for Dodd Edington. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bedford, the Beta Sigma Phi, and the Elks Auxiliary.

Quackenbush – Geneva Pauline Quackenbush of Bedford died Friday, April 3, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on October 21, 1908, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of John W. and Mary Ellen (Moore) Cross. She married Fred Quackenbush, and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Donald E. Quackenbush of Bedford. She was preceded in death by her husband, and one daughter, Phyllis Ann Quackenbush, three sisters, and five brothers.
She was retired from Dunn Memorial Hospital and was a member of the First Church of God.

Sherrill – Robert Sherrill of Bedford died Friday, April 3, 1998, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on October 20, 1926, in Eureka, IN, he was the son of Conner and Mae Sherrill. He married Lena (Thomas) Sherrill, and she survives.
Also surviving are one step-daughter, Susan Marie Gibbons; two step-sons, Kenneth Pettitt of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and Thomas Pettitt of Plainfield, IN; three sisters: Barbara Bevigno of California, Judy Spires of Clute, TX, and Janice Patrick of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Sheriffs Association and was of the Catholic faith. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1686 in Oolitic, and was a former member of the American Legion Gillen Post 33.

Bartlett – Virgal D. "Tickie" Bartlett of Bedford died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 8, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Winford and Bertha (Blackwell) Bartlett.
Surviving are his mother, Bertha Bartlett of Bedford; two brothers: Opal Bartlett of Bedford and Dwight Bartlett of Heltonville, IN; three sisters: Peggy Ritter of Bedford, Jeanie Reuter and Velma Chambers, both of Oolitic. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Doris Irene Bartlett.
He was a farmer. a Korean War Army veteran, and a member of the National Rifle Association and National Kennel Club.

Drehobl – Minnie Drehobl of Bedford died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on August 31, 1909, in Wisconsin, the daughter of Richard and Rose (Liefel) Lanz. She married Michael F. Drehobl on December 1, 1929, and he died January 8, 1949.
Surviving are two daughters: Sherry Underwood of Bedford, IN, and Sally Bullock of Oolitic, IN; one half sister, Mary Lantz Morgan of Bedford; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Lantz.
She was an operator for Indiana Bell Telephone in Bedford, retiring in 1972 after thirty-one years of service. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Altar Society of the church, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Services for Minnie Drehobl will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4th, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Bernie Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Friday, April 3rd, at The Day & Carter Mortuary, where a rosary service will be said at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
Potts – Eugene M. Potts of Huron died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Orange County Hospital in Paoli. Born September 19, 1921, in Huron, IN, he was the son of Larkin and Amy (Terrell) Potts.
There are no survivors in the immediate family.
There will be a graveside service for Eugene Potts at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7th, at Huron Cemetery with Bro. Max Timbrook officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 6th, at Chastain Funeral Home.
