04/30/05 Turner - Mary I. Turner of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, April 30, 2005. Born on March 13, 1922, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Owens) Luallen. She married Harold W. Turner on August 25, 1945, and he died November 2, 2003.She was born on March 13, 1922. She was a homemaker and a member of the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 2nd, at the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Duane Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the church. 04/28/05 Eggers - Louise "Irene" Eggers of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was employed at the LARC Center in Bedford. Kirkman - Bernard Kirkman of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Born August 28, 1925 in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Carl and Viola (Patton) Kirkman. He married Betty Louise Hawkins on March 25, 1945 and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Timothy Kirkman and Danny and Vickie Kirkman; two daughters, Susan Kirkman, Sally and Brad Waggoner; thirteen grandchildren: Rochelle, Jody, Jackie, Viola, Amanda, Audra, Anna, Jessica, Kyle, Kelly, Shawn, Shane and Shannon; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his one sister, Patricia Cox. He was retired from General Motors in Bedford and had been a carpenter for many years. He attended the Oolitic Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 2nd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Revs. Richard Tallman and Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Armstrong of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born May 29, 1928, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Harry G. and Thelma (Link) Armstrong. He married Nancy L. Brown and she preceded him in death. He later married Wilma J. Hall McAfee and she also preceded him in death. He then married Ruth Ann Ritter Brown on October 6, 1990, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are five daughters: Trudy Fouch and her husband, Dale, and Susan Winchester, Diana Isley and her husband, Bill, all of Kokomo, IN, Sherry Myers and her husband, John, of Ellettsville, IN, and Tamara (T.J.) Aguilar of Ft. Meyers, FL; two sons, Michael Armstrong and his wife, Irene, of Lemoore, CA and Gabriel Valentine of Trinity, NC; three step-sons: Brad Brown of Bedford, IN, Mark Brown and his wife, Sammy, of Bloomington, IN, and Tracy Brown and his wife, Kim, of Bedford, IN; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; two brothers, Jack and Richard Armstrong; and one sister, Marcella Harrell. In 1987 he retired from the Chrysler Casting Plant in Kokomo, IN, after thirty years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a fireman during WW II and was a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. He was a member of the New Hope Community Church in Bedford. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 30th, at the New Hope Community Church on Hwy 50 E. in Bedford with the Rev. Doug Martin officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Mausoleum. Hearth of Springville, IN, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at his residence. Born May 15, 1943, in Monroe County, IN, he was the son of Vernon and Grace (Allen) Hearth. He married Glenda Sue Coursey March 20, 1969, and she survives. He retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane; and worked at Bloomington Transit. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the Army National Guard. 04/26/05 Kidd - Hulen D. Kidd of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at his residence. Born February 17, 1932, in Wayne County, KY, he was the son of the Rev. Walter Kidd and Lissie (Jones) Kidd. He married Estelle Morrow and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Wayne Kidd of Buddha, IN, and Tim Kidd of Springville, IN; four sisters: Ora Keith, Bonnie Collins, and Lillie Surber, all of Pulaski County, KY, and Chloa Morrow of Oolitic, IN; three brothers: Harrison Kidd of Springville, IN, Ed Kidd of Bedford, IN, and Chester Kidd of Somerset, KY; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and two sisters. He was a lawnmower repairman and a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Springville. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 29th, at the Grace Baptist Church in Springville with the Rev. Roscoe Godsey officiating. Burial will follow in Springville West Cemetery. Born November 6, 1943, in Muncie, IN, she was the daughter of Lee and Goldie (Waskom) Mullinax. She married Larry Sanders, and he survives. Tlustek - Anna Susan Tlustek, infant daughter of Hein K. and Stephanie (Stockwell) Tlustek of Bedford, IN, died Monday at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. 04/24/05 Kinser - Marvin L. Kinser of Bedford, IN, formerly of Clarksville, IN, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, in Bedford. Born June 11, 1943, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Roy and Helen (Covey) Kinser. Surviving are his former wife, Sandy Smith of Bedford, IN; his mother, Helen; one daughter, Tina Adams and her husband, Mark, of Bedford, IN; one brother, Mike Kinser of Bedford, IN; two granddaughters, Stacey Eagan and her husband, Chris, and Megan Jones of Bedford, IN; two grandsons, Steven and Casey Jones, both of Bedford, IN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Kinser; his father, Roy Kinser; and one sister, Marilyn Hicks and her husband, Sam. He was a welder at Jeffboat in Jeffersonville, IN and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was of the Protestant faith. DeMoss of Springville, IN, formerly of Stanford, IN, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 12, 1925, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of Elisha and Mary Tabitha (Andis) Fortner. She married Frank DeMoss and he preceded her in death. She was a former cook, having retired from Indiana University, and was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. Matlock - Helen C. Matlock of Bedford, IN, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at her residence. Born July 14, 1923, in Clarksville, AR, she was the daughter of Walter C. and Elizabeth Capps. She married John T. Matlock on July 8, 1948, and he survives. She worked 39 years for G.M. Powertrain in Bedford, Ind., retiring in 1988. She was also a hairdresser. She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Bedford, IN, and taught Sunday School. Stiles - Forrest "Shorty" Stiles, 76, of Bedford, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 4, 1928, he was the son of Forest Stiles Sr. and Flossie (Curts) Stiles. He married Mary Rosalyn Beedie on May 6, 1950, and she survives. He graduated from Fayetteville High School with the class of 1947. He was a retired teamster who had worked for I & S Motor Express, Briggs Trucking, and ANR Trucking. Suddarth - Mildred M. Suddarth of Orleans, IN, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born February 20, 1926, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of Harry and Neva (Jackson) Clipp. She was reared in the home of her grandparents, Charlie and Mae Jackson, following the death of her mother. She married John William Suddarth on October 11, 1947, and he survives. She was a member of Fishing Creek Chapel and graduated in 1943 from Mitchell High School. She was a member of the Tri County Antique Farm Machinery Association, White River Valley Antique Association, Greensburg Power of the Past Tractor Club, and a charter member of Today’s Homemakers Club. 04/20/05 Walls - Jerry Walls, 62, of Westview Manor in Bedford, died at 7:09 pm on Wednesday, April 20th, at the Bloomington Hospital. Born on October 20, 1942 in Bedford, he was the son of Arvin Robert and Hazel Alma (Stewart) Walls. He worked for RCA in Bloomington. Surviving are two sons: Bryan Walls of Bedford and Douglas Atkins of Brownstown; two daughters: Lisa Hill and Alicia Walls both of Bedford; five grandchildren; three sisters: Elva Pavey of Bedford, Barbara Spaulding of Mitchell and Judy Patton of Springville; one brother: Ronald Walls of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother; one half-sister and brother. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, April 22nd, at the Patton Hill Cemetery with Pastor Doug Kelley officiating. No calling hours are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary. 04/17/05 Carter - Mary Alice Carter of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at StoneBridge Health Campus. Born on September 15, 1916, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Earl and Dora (Chapman) Dumond. She married Forrest Carter on June 12, 1939, and he died in 1974. She was a homemaker and she was a member of the Southland Church of Christ of Bedford. Marshall - Irma U. Marshall of Campbellsburg, IN, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Heritage House in Salem. Born July 4, 1910, in Washington County, IN, she was the daughter of William C. and Comileete (Cornwell) Bennett. She married Albert A. Marshall September 8, 1928, and he died August 3, 1963. She had been employed at TravLer Corporation, Smith Cabinet, and Hoosier Uplands. She graduated in 1928 from Campbellsburg High School. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, Christopher Harrison Chapter DAR, Campbellsburg Rebekah Lodge, Salem Order of Eastern Star No. 286, Womens Study Club, Red Hat Society, and was a Democrat Precinct Committee Chairman. Staley - Anne Marie Staley of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at her residence. Born on August 7, 1945, in Elwood, IN, she was the daughter of Franklin “Jack” and Rose Etta (Gerkin) Chambers. She married Timothy K. Staley on July 4, 1991, and he survives. She was a homemaker and had been employed at General Electric and Regal Beloit. She was a 1963 graduate of Mitchell High School. 04/16/05 Allen - Kenneth Gene Allen of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the Core Nursing & Rehab Center. Born on April 5, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Kenneth Allen and Mary Louise (Fullen) Allen. He married Diane Cull on December 14, 1963 and she survives. Surviving with his wife is one son: Peter Allen of Bedford, IN; one daughter: Melanie Von Winkle of CT; three sisters: Christina Roberts of Bedford, IN, Maryalice Allen of Lavonia, MI and Patricia Allen of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carroll Allen; and one sister, Helen Allen. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after serving twenty-two years and was also retired from NWSC Crane. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, VFW, Bedford Boat Club, a forty-eight year member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 and a member of the Free Methodist Church. There will be graveside services for Kenneth Allen at Green Hill Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 19th, with Pat Blyeth officiating. Saladee - Beverly Ann Saladee of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born December 6, 1936, in Kansas, she was the daughter of Joseph and Helen Fagan. She married Charles Saladee on April 3, 1959, and he survives. Surviving with her husband is one daughter, Lannie Thompson and her husband, Matthew Hamann of Napa, CA; two sons, Robert Saladee and his wife, Antigone, of La Vista, NE, Michael Saladee and his wife, Christi, of Westminster, CA; five grandchildren: Shea, Shannon, Robert, and Megan Saladee, all of La Vista, NE, and Nicholas Saladee of CA; and her sister, Marilyn Hodges of Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings. She was a homemaker, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Secret Sisters Church Group in Norman, IN. Born March 20, 1925, in Edwardsport, IN, she was the daughter of Harvery and Brownie (Yaney) Tincher. Surviving are two sons: Larry Fine of Martinsville, IN, and Danny Fine of Cincinnati, OH; one granddaughter, Katherine Fine, and one grandson, Nicholas Fine; one sister, Jacqueline Gardner of Bloomfield, IN; one brother, William Tincher of Bedford, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter; two sons; one brother, and three sisters. She was a data processor for Ft. Benjamin Harrison. She was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the U.S. Navy, past commander and Chaplin for the American Legion post #465 in Indianapolis, IN and Order of the Eastern Star. Cremation will follow. 04/14/05 Seiverling - Reatha L. (Blackwell) Seiverling of Heltonville, IN, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born on September 21, 1920, she was the daughter of Noah Everett and Dertha (Todd) Blackwell. She married John Seiverling and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and she retired from RCA in Bloomington. She was of the Baptist faith. 04/13/05 Endris - James E. Endris of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born February 19, 1936, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Otto and Marie (Gates) Endris. He married Sandra Bridwell in November, 1959. He married Janet Hawkins Hubbard on September 19, 1990, and she survives. He was employed at GM Powertrain of Bedford, retiring October 1, 1996. He served in the National Guard and was a member of American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 of Bedford and the Bedford Boat & Sportsmen's Club. 04/12/05 Helton - Dewey Helton of Williams, IN, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his residence. Born May 29, 1926, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Charles Dewey and Maree (Taylor) Helton. He married Beulah Nicholson on January 31, 1947, and she survives. He was a retired welder. Hollingsworth - Fred Ellis Hollingsworth of Huron, IN, died. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his residence. Born January 27, 1916, in Wilmington, NC, he was the son of Fred Owens and Pearl (Rouse) Hollingsworth. Lewis - Roy W. Lewis of Williams, IN, died. Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Core Nursing Facility in Bedford. Born December 23, 1914, in Indian Springs, Martin County, IN, he was the son of Ray and Letha (Wagner) Lewis. He married Bette Coulter and she survives. He was a farmer and a maintenance worker at Extruded Alloys in Bedford. He was a member of the American Legion and was of the Protestant faith. He served his country by joining the U.S. Navy in 1942, and he was honorably discharged in 1945. Trained as a seaman, Mr. Lewis saw combat action with the U.S. Navy Air Corps at sea and on numerous island airfields during World War II. Mr. Lewis participated in many air campaigns operated from remote island airfields. He proudly and bravely served in the Battle of the Philippine Sea as a part of General MacArthur's Central Pacific campaign, in which island bases would be taken in a hop-scotch pattern and secured until the Philippine Islands were once again occupied by allied military forces. 04/11/05 Burton - Wallace E. “Wally” Burton of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born May 17, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Fred and Myrtle (Quackenbush) Burton. 04/10/05 Stancombe - Lenuel "Bud" Stancombe of Mitchell, IN, died. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Select Speciality Hospital, Bloomington. Born February 28, 1936, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Clyde and Nettie (East) Stancombe. He married Betsy H. Jones August 7, 1958, and she survives. He was formerly employed at several limestone companies. 04/08/05 Hildebrand - Alice Maxine Hilderbrand of Bedford, IN, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Bloomington Hospital. Born June 9, 1923, in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Stacy and Tenney Alice (Honeycutt) Mikels. She married Robert Hilderbrand on June 27, 1942, and he died on September 16, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Ernest Hilderbrand and Glen Hilderbrand and his wife, Rose, all of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Nancy Meadows and her husband, Jerry. of Bedford. IN; six granddaughters: Debra Deckard, Sherry Porter, Pamela Ryan, Deana Banks all of Bedford, IN, Tamela Rummel of Martinsville, IN and Toni Menden of Greenwood, IN; one grandson, Brad Hilderbrand of Bedford, IN; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lottie Hayes of Greensburg, IN, Clara Hall of Indianapolis and Minnie Brown of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Claude Mikels of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Bernard Hilderbrand; three brothers; two sisters; and one grandson, Jeffery Hilderbrand. She had been employed at the S.S. Kresge Store in Bedford and was a member of the Apostolic Faith Assembly. Patton Jr. of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born March 9, 1934, in Salt Lick, KY, he was the son of Scott O. Patton Sr. and Lennie (Norris) Patton. He married Patricia Brown on July 19, 1952, and she survives. He had been a truck driver and was a plant superintendent at the Owens Illinois Glass Factory in Muncie. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. 04/06/05 Beasley - Jewell Beasley of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born June 7, 1919, in Vincennes, IN, she was the daughter of Charlie and Cleada (Terrell) Humphreys. She married Theodore Beasley and he died on October 14, 1994. She was formerly employed as a clerk at Sterling Drugs and Woolworth's in Bedford. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Bedford. Parish - Elwood Parish of Orleans, IN, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born March 20, 1918, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Harry and Mae (Hall) Parish. He married Beulah Boyd on May 23, 1936, and she survives. He was a farmer and a self employed paint and body man. He was a 1936 graduate of Orleans High School, a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Leipsic United Methodist Church. Sifers - Lula Belle Sifers of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, March 6, 2005, at White River Lodge. Born August 23, 1917, in East Oolitic, IN, she was the daughter of Charles Nathaniel and Martha Ellen (Childers) Stevens. She married Lloyd Kenneth Sifers in 1951, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Richard Gene Robbins of Frankfort, IN; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Geneva Lemons of FL, Ruby Watterson and Violet Henson both of Bedford, IN, and Mary Winters of Rockville, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband and several brothers and sisters. She was a homemaker and had attended the Calvary Baptist Church. Born on August 14, 1931, in Plattsburgh, NY, she was the daughter of Paul William and Irene Mildred (Aubin) Stout. She married John Arnold on December 31, 1949, and he survives. Surviving with her husband is one son, Paul V. Arnold and his wife, Debra, of Milltown, IN; two grandchildren, John and Jessica Arnold; two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Serra Arnold. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Kathy Jo; and one brother, Earl Stout. She was a nurse’s aide and co-owner of Arnold’s Candyland in Bedford. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Born on January 15, 1938, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Leslie M. and Hilda (Trantor) Carr. She married James Gaines on January 27, 1956, and he died September 12, 1971. Surviving are three sons: Jim Gaines and his wife, Tena, Les Gaines and his wife, Kattie, and Jason Gaines and his wife, Veronique, all of Mitchell, IN; three daughters: Martha Blanton and her husband, Jim, Trena Collins and her husband, Mike, and Letitia Pemberton and her husband, Kevin, all of Mitchell, IN; eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Hamilton - Roger D. “Bevo” Hamilton of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at his residence. Born December 10, 1939, in Campbellsburg, IN, he was the son of Ermil and Bessie (Lawyer) Hamilton. Myers - Audrey Myers of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at her residence. Born on April 13, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer and Lelia (Williamson) Smith. She married Charles Laverne Myers on September 14, 1942, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Jerry Lee Myers of Florida; one daughter, Leah Jane Richardson of Texas; three grandchildren; Stephen Myers of Bedford, IN, Heather Hopson and Hope Goodman both of Texas; six great-grandchildren: Bradley Myers of Bedford, IN, Donovon Kannard, Desiree Kannard, Loren Chafins, Alexis Williams and Bryce Williams, all of Texas; three step-grandchildren: Joseph A. Gore, Jayce E. Shifflett and Valerie N. Shifflett; two sisters, Alma Smith of Bedford, IN, and Betty Tafflinger of Mitchell, IN; and one brother, Norman Smith of Oolitic, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Lewis and Leslie Smith; and two sisters, Agnes Meadows and Viola Jackson. She retired from M. Fine & Sons Mfg. in Bedford and was a member of the Faith Mission Church. Funeral services for Audrey Myers will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 7th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Leonard Sankey officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-9:00 pm on Wednesday and from 11:00 am until the service time on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. 04/04/05 Pemberton - Denzel Dale Pemberton of Bedford, IN, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born May 17, 1931, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Fate and Janie Pemberton. Surviving are his ex-wife, Shirley Watson of Bedford, IN; two sons, James and Roger Pemberton both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Nancy Terrell of Bedford, IN; two sisters, AnnaBelle Jenkins of Bedford, IN, and Evelyn Brewer of Peru, IN; one brother, James Pemberton of Needmore, IN; seven grandchildren: Christopher Pemberton, Cory Pemberton, Ryan Pemberton, Jennifer Terrell, Kyle Pemberton, Gina Terrell, Shayna Pemberton and Brittni Pemberton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Regina Pemberton; two sisters, Margaret Tosti and Edna Eagans; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Pemberton. He was a stone mill worker in Bedford and a veteran of the Air Force and the Indiana National Guard. Funeral services for Denzel Pemberton will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 7th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with L.D. Payton officiating. Burial will follow in Knott Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the Mitchell Post of the American Legion. Fields of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born November 26, 1929, in Greene County, IN, he was the son of Chester Clayte Fields and Ruby (Lackey) Fields. He married Donna Young in September 1954, and she died in June 1979. He was a mortician, having worked for Day & Carter Mortuary for several years; then worked at Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane, where he retired after 27 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of God; a veteran of the U.S. Army; a life member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33; life member of the BPOE Bedford Lodge No. 826; a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 14, F. & A.M., of Bedford; a member of the zoning board for several years; a 50-year member of the IHSAA and basketball official for 30 years. He was also a 50-year member of the Bedford Lions Club, where he served as past president and had participated in more than 50 pancake festivals. |
