01/30/05 Nikirk - Gladys M. Nikirk of Oolitic, IN, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Bedford. Born on August 27, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Mundy) Wagoner. She married Warren Nikirk on August 31, 1943, and he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Oolitic Pentecostal Church. 01/29/05 Barnett - Marsha Anne Barnett of Oolitic, IN, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 25, 1946, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas and Marcella (Pace) Hardy. She married Gary Barnett on October 9, 1987, and he survives. She was a purchasing agent and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, VFW and Eagles. Daugherty - Vernon Ray Daugherty Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born February 16, 1936, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Shirley and Ida Mae (Aynes) Daugherty. He married Gabriella Patroni August 19, 1991 and she survives. He was a retired employee of General Electric and a taxi driver. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of Oakland City University. Eversole - Lorena Eversole of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Arrangements are pending at Chastain Funeral Home. 01/28/05 Axom-Symborski, Kagan Isaac- Kagan Axsom-Szymborksi, 18 months, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Born on July 7, 2003, in Bloomington, IN, he was the son of Peter Szymborski and Christy Axsom. He was a member of Truth Apostolic Tabernacle in Bloomington. Carter - Edna Penelope Carter of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 10, 1947, she was the daughter of James H. and Katherine Turpin Embree. She married Ralph Eugene Carter, and he survives. Dorsett - Junalee Dorsett of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County. Born June 1, 1922, in West Baden Springs, IN, she was the daughter of James W. and Effie Belle (Cogswell) Lindsey. She married George P. Dorsett January 24, 1941, and he died April 25, 1997. Fidler - David K. Fidler of Oolitic, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Day & Carter Mortuary. Glasgow - Thelma Rogers Glasgow of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born June 24, 1912, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of James W. and Cora A. (Goodman) Hillenberg. She married Clovia (Tony) Rogers in December, 1962, and he preceded her in death. She married Joseph Glasgow in December 1986, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are five children: Carolyn Beal of Bloomington, IN, Eldena Lagle of Tennessee, and Connie Mathis, Lana Chenault and Linda Tumey, all of Bedford, IN; one sister, Helen Chastain of Terre Haute, IN; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her both husbands; five children: Kenneth Rogers, James Rogers, Sylvester Thomas Rogers, Dennis Edwin Rogers and Gary Scott Rogers; one sister, Ruth Stewart; and four brothers: Therman, Freeland, Winfred and Stanley Hillenberg. She was a homemaker, head cook at Kerns Restaurant, and also a seamstress at M. Fines.
01/27/05 Kruchten - Malcolm Newland Kruchten of Bedford, IN, formerly of Orleans, IN, Thursday, January 27, 2005, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. Born July 18, 1927, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Albert Frank and Esther (Newland) Kruchten. He married Marcia Helen Chambers on September 18, 1954, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Charles O. Kruchten of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Susan L. Flynn of Nashville, IN, and Beth A. Landreth of Washington, IN; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Albert Eugene Kruchten of Columbus, IN. He was preceded in death by his one son, Donald Curtis Kruchten. He was a 1945 graduate of Bedford High School and an accountant for Emconite Plastics in Medora, IN, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Coast Guard and a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Gillen Post #33 and the National Assoc. of Accountants. Funeral services for Malcolm Kruchten will be at 1:00 pm Monday, January 31st, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford Cemetery with graveside military rites according by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Reynolds of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, IN, died Thursday, January 27, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on November 9, 1928, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Jack F. and Leona (Swarringim) Reynolds, Sr. He married Margaret Joan Tirey November 26, 1953, and she survives. He graduated in 1946 from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis and attended Butler University. He retired as deputy treasurer of Marion County in 1989. He was a US Navy veteran and a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church. 01/25/05 Haley - Nona A. Haley of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born July 31, 1915, in Tunnelton, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas Joshua and Myrtle (Jean) Faris. She married Garland Haley July 3, 1937, and he died on May 29, 1995. She was a homemaker and a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a 1933 graduate of Campbellsburg High School. Incollingo - Larry Incollingo of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. He was born April 27, 1919. He married Marion (Quinn) Fleener, and she survives. He was a newspaper columnist, having worked at the Bloomington Herald-Times and the Bedford Daily Times-Mail. He was the author of numerous books, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a pharmacist mate during World War II. 01/24/05 Thompson - Arleen Kaye Thompson of East Oolitic, IN, died Monday, January 24, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born March 10, 1943, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of William and Moneva (Hillenburg) Davis. Surviving are one daughter, Regina Kaye Pierce and her friend, Shelley Roberts of East Oolitic; one son, Roger Dean Pierce, Jr. and his wife, Kim of East Oolitic; two sisters, Janet Glasgow of Springville and Joyce Collins and her husband, Dean of Bedford; five brothers, William Davis, Jr. and his wife, Nancy and Claude Davis and his wife, Debbie all of Bedford, Dennis Davis and his wife, Arlene and Philip Davis all of East Oolitic and Robert Davis of the Shawswick community; one step-daughter, Gerri Lynn Thompson of Washington; two step-sons, Chris and Jeff Thompson of Washington; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one step-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and one step-son, Roger Dean Keller. She retired from NSWC CRANE after twenty-eight years and was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. 01/23/05 Boling - Mary Elizabeth Boling of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, January 23, 2005, at the Bedford Medical Center. Born May 3, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Mundy) Wagoner. She married Harry Boling and he died on October 7, 2003. She was retired from Smith Cabinet Co. in Salem. 01/22/05 Baker - Everett E. Baker of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 22nd at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on April 25, 1909, in Orange County, IN, he was the son of Ernest Baker and Jenny (Combs) Baker. He married Minnie Gregory who died on July 17, 1973. He later married Frances Gilbert and she died in April 1, 1983. Surviving are two daughters: Brenda Poore of Bono, IN, and Mary Beavers of Mitchell, IN; three sons: Robert Baker of Springville, IN, Bill Baker of Bartlettsville, IN, and Ben Baker of Missouri; two step-daughters: Geraldine Smith and Maxine Fleenor, both of Bedford, IN; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives; one daughter, Anita Thompson; four brothers; one sister; one grandson; one granddaughter and one step-granddaughter. He was a retired Molder at Central Foundry, member of the UAW Local 440 and a member of Grace Baptist Church of Springville. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary on Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 P.M. 01/21/05 Kessinger - Michael Donavon Kessinger of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on April 27, 1954, in Morgantown, KY, he was the son of Charles and Bernice (Hunt) Kessinger. He married Jeannette Qualkenbush on Sept. 14, 1980, in Lawrence County, IN, and she survives. He was a machine operator at Visteon of Bedford. He was a graduate of Bloomington South High School and completed two years of college. He was of the Protestant Faith and was a member of the IUE/CWA Union. He was a musician who performed in the area, including the Little Nashville Opry in Nashville. He went by the stage name of Michael Bannon. Fry - Phyllis Robertson Fry of Bloomington, IN, formerly of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Meadowwood in Bloomington. Born on May 29, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lionel and Zella Spoonmore Robertson and the oldest of eight children. She married Ray W. Fry, and he preceded her in death. Surviving are her children: Susan Cummings of Nashville, IN, Dennis Fry of Indianapolis, IN, Laurie Coats of Jeffersonville, IN, Jeffrey Fry of Muncie, IN, and Todd Fry of Advance, IN; two brothers, Don Robertson of Carmel, IN, and Bill Robertson of Indianapolis, IN; five sisters: Randy Maloney of Midland, TX, Judith Tindall of Jacksonville, FL, Sara Harp of Oolitic, IN, Brenda Stewart of Mooresville, IN, and Patty Robertson of Ellettsville, IN; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a 1942 graduate of Needmore High School and was employed in personnel and cost accounting at Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. for 42 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church for almost 60 years. Active in the Bedford chapter of Altrusa International, where she served five terms as president, she had also served as both local and national president of Omega Nu Tau sorority. She was an organizer and past president of ABWA, where she was named ABWA Woman of the Year in 1986. Mrs. Fry was also a former co-chairwoman of the Lawrence County Multiple Sclerosis fund drive. She was an accomplished artist and poet, having been published in several anthologies, and five books of her poems were also published. She was a member of the International Poets Hall of Fame. Additionally, for many years, she and her late husband Ray were world tour directors and 4-H leaders. where Mrs. Fry had been a member for nearly 60 years White - Benny Wayne White of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 13, 1935, he was the son of Hobert and Bessie (Kirk) White. He married Jean Sipes on Sept. 16, 1960, in Bedford, IN. He worked for Jackson Oil Co. as a filling station attendant, and was a mover for John W. Tumey Moving Co. for 23 years. 01/20/05 Cobb - Richard Lee Cobb of Williams, IN, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, at his residence. Born on March 28, 1950, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Melvin Bradley "M. B." and Grace Delmar (Stigall) Cobb. He married Edna Floetta Wright February 3, 1978, and she survives. 01/19/05 Craig - Doris Irene Craig of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Bloomington Hospital. Born December 18, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Richard and Ruby R. (Horan) Kern. She married Ambrose J. Craig whom she later divorced. Surviving are two sons, Richard D. Kern of Bedford, IN, and Montgomery Allen Craig of Flat Rock, IN; one sister, Roberta Davis of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Bill R. Kern of Bedford, IN, and Luther M. Kern of Mitchell, IN; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a greeter at Walmart in Bedford for ten years and worked with the Boy Scouts of America for several years. She was an active member of the Englewood Baptist Church. Funeral services for Doris Craig will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 25th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Johnson of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born February 14, 1947, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Leonard C. and Lucille K. (Hartman) Johnson. She was a caregiver. She was a graduate of Needmore High School with the class of 1965 and attended Indiana University. 01/18/05 Chilton - Lisa Christine (Daggy) Chilton of Heltonville, IN, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at her residence. Born on January 5, 1964, she was the daughter of Lewis and Ruth (Fountain) Daggy. She married Ralph Chilton, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one son, Zachary Edward Chilton, and one daughter, Ashley Ruth Chilton, both at home; her mother, Ruth Daggy of Bedford, IN; two sisters, Lucinda Daggy of Bedford, IN, Debbie Reynolds and her husband, Phil, of French Lick, IN; two nephews, Nathan Lewis Daggy of Bedford, IN, and Dustin Lee Shoultz and his family of Moore, OK; Aunt Doris and Uncle John Fountain of Bedford, IN; Aunt Janet Pridemore of Bedford, IN; and Aunt Betty Fountain of Sellersburg, IN; and her very loving and caring mother-in-law, Eva Chilton of Heltonville, IN; one Great Aunt, Helen Easton of Logansport, IN; 18 very close and caring cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Daggy; both sets of grandparents: Cletus and Gertrude Fountain, and Henry and Martha Daggy; three Uncles, Tom and Bob Fountain, and Henry Daggy II; three Aunts: Ruth Fultz, Barbara Key and Betty Daggy. She was a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. Lisa worked for 15 years at Westview Manor as a C.N.A. before going to work at Valeo Sylvania in Seymour, IN, where she was on leave, fighting for her life against cancer. Services will be held at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford on Saturday, January 22, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Sherman Thomas officiating. Friends may call on Friday, January 21, 2005, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will be at Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bloomington Hospice who took such good care of Lisa; Lawrence County Cancer Society, or to her family to help with her expenses. 01/16/05 Ashcraft - Ray Ashcraft of Seymour, IN, died Sunday, January 16, 2005. He was born February 22, 1915, in Martin County, IN. He married Ruby Bennett on July 2, 1934, and she survives. He retired from Central Foundry Division of GM in Bedford, and he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of U.A.W. Local No. 440 in Bedford and V.F.W. in Seymour. He attended the First Baptist Church in Seymour. 01/15/05 Barnes - Mildred W. Barnes of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at White River Lodge. Born June 6, 1915, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of Ralph and Arie (True) White. She married Ernest W. Barnes on November 23, 1940, and he died November 8, 1991. Duncan - Connie Lou Duncan of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at her residence. Born March 16, 1953, in Shoals, IN, she was the daughter of Harry William and Violet (Holt) Jones. She married Roger Dale Duncan on October 2, 1971, and he survives. She was employed at Mitchell High School cafeteria prior to her illness and attended the Bride of Christ Fellowship. Grissom - Nova B. Grissom of Huron, IN, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at Hospitality House in Bedford. Born August 14, 1933, in Huron, IN, she was the daughter of Arthur and Lottie (VanBuskirk) Fletcher. She married Norman Eugene "Gene" Grissom May 17, 1952, and he died August 11, 2004. She was a former employee of RCA and was a member of the Hindostan Quilting Club and of the Baptist faith. 01/14/05 Hollars - Emma Louise (Goodman) Hollars of Coveyville, IN, formerly of Needmore, IN, died Friday, January 14, 2005, at her daughter's home. Born on January 17, 1913, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Young) Goodman. She married Odis Hollars on September 10, 1934, and he died in 1992. Surviving are three daughters and son-in- laws: Peggy and Ansel Deckard of Bedford, IN; Kay and Bud Bridges of Mitchell, IN; Donna and Dennis Maddox of Bedford, IN; ten grandchildren: Tim Deckard, Greg Deckard, Mike Deckard, Curt Deckard, Ron Bridges, Darren Bridges, Sandra Robbins, Jon Alexander, Carol Sanders, Denise Lopez; twenty-three great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband; two sons: Charles Lee and Odis Earl Hollars; one daughter, Myrna Santure; one grandson, Bryan Bridges; one great grandson, John Deckard; two sisters: Irene Goodman and Leona Ray; and six brothers: Winfred, George, Ray, Maxwell, Carl Avery and Charles Jr. Goodman. She was a housewife and was a member of the Oolitic Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Kopp - Virginia M. Kopp of Bedford, IN, died Friday, January 14, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born May 26, 1933, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of Helen Moore. She married Kenneth Kopp on May 9, 1953 and he died on May 28, 1998. Surviving are one son, Gary Kopp and his wife, Donna, of Corydon, IN; two grandsons, Baron Kopp and his wife, Alisha, and Kyle Kopp, all of Corydon, IN. She was preceded in death by her mother; her step-father, Olin Moore; and her husband. She was employed at Avco Financial Services for fifteen years and later was a secretary for Southern Indiana Claims Services for eight years. Born on August 6, 1924, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Elmer and Amanda (Price) Spinks. Surviving are one son, Rick L. Spinks and his wife, Bonnie, of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Sheila A. Terrell and her husband, Vernie, of Bedford, IN; one grandson, Jamey E. Spinks; one great-granddaughter, Emmalee Spinks of Indianapolis; two step-grandsons, Jeff Harrell and his wife, Mellisa, and Chris Terrell and his wife, Ronnetta; six step-great-grandchildren: Josh, Jacob and Maleah Harrell and Carrie, Kirsten and Spencer Terrell, all of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Maude Emory of Indianapolis, Goldie Little of Kentucky and Alice Arnold of Bedford, IN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. McNeely of Mitchell, IN, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at his residence. Born on April 5, 1944, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Roy and Wanda (Compton) McNeely. He married Laura Underwood on March 11, 1964, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are his mother, Wanda McNeely of Mitchell, IN; four sons: Morgan McNeely of Orleans, IN, Andrew McNeely of Farmville, NC, Ollie McNeely of Fayetteville, IN, and Jay Benjamin McNeely serving in the U.S. Air Force in Italy; one daughter, Amy McNeely of Nicholasville, KY; four sisters: Mary Ann Luttrell, Judy Allen, Evelyn Payton, all of Mitchell, IN, and Sharon Downham of Bedford, IN; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. He was a self-employed building contractor. He was a 1962 graduate of Mitchell High School, and served in the Indiana National Guard from 1962 to 1964. Pemberton - Janet Marie Pemberton of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born October 5, 1938, in Brownsville, KY, she was the daughter of Arnold Robert and Minnie Marie (Bledsoe) James. She married Cecil Pemberton and he survives. She was retired from Visteon in Bedford. Turpin - Sam A. Turpin of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on February 26, 1941, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Loyd and Betty (Hall) Turpin. Surviving are two sons, Samuel Lee Turpin of Kentucky, and Samuel Eugene Turpin of Bedford, IN; his mother, Betty Turpin of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Ralph Turpin of, Mitchell, IN, and Loyd Turpin, Jr. of Bedford, IN; four sisters: Treasa Reed and Martha Brim, both of Mitchell, IN, Becky Thompson of California, and Kathy Sharpe of Bedford, IN; and 6 grandchildren. Sims - Rebecca Cornelia Sims of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born July 24, 1915, in Williams, IN, she was the daughter of Elza and Ziporah (Williams) Smith. She married Lehman O. Maegerlein and he preceded her in death. She later married Lloyd Padgett and he preceded her in death. She then married R.L. Sims and he also preceded her in death. Surviving is one son, Stephen Maegerlein and his wife, Nancey of Williams, IN. She was preceded in death by three husbands; one son, Timothy Maegerlein; one daughter, Mary Rachel Cline; three brothers: Roscoe, Robert and Richard Smith; eight sisters: Rhea Roberts, Renee Simovic, Ruth Wagner, Ruby Tomlinson, Rachel Smith, Roberta Hendrickson, Roxey Malinowski and Regina Milum. She retired as the postmaster of the Williams Post Office after thirty-two years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary of Bloomington, the John Wallace Chapter of D.A.R., the Indiana Historical Society and Indiana Pioneers. She was of the Baptist Faith. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 14th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Born June 24, 1954, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Albert Ray and Dorothy (Wilson) Bridges. Surviving are his mother, Dorothy, of Bedford, IN; two sons, Jeremy and Joseph Bridges, both of Bedford, IN; one grandson, Joseph Bridges; four sisters: Brenda Corey of Bedford, IN, Becki True of Indianapolis, Sheila Stori of Oklahoma City, OK, and Theresa Bridges of Youngstown, OH; and one brother, Daniel Bridges of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert. He was a laborer in the limestone industry and a member of Dive Christian Church. Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 14th, at Dive Cemetery with Johnny Johnson officiating. Friends may call from 9:00-11:30 am on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Dwyer - Connie L. Dwyer of Bedford, IN, died Monday, January 10, 2005, at her residence. Born November 14, 1934, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Harry E. Baldwin and Regina (Smith) Baldwin Milum. She married Lawrence "Monk" Dwyer on August 11, 1956, in Mitchell, IN, and he survives. She graduated from Williams High School with the class of 1953 and Indianapolis General Hospital in 1956. She was a registered nurse, having worked at the Lawrence County Health Department for 17 years, retiring in 1998. She had also worked for 23 years at Dunn Memorial Hospital of Bedford and served as a nurse at Mitchell schools. She was a member of Southland Church of Christ since 1959. 01/09/05 Johnson - Anna Geneva Johnson died January 9, 2005. Born on April 13, 1934, in Clay County, TN, she was the daughter of William Albert and Zula Agnes Stover Stockton. She married Wayne Johnson on July 2, 1952 ,and he died on April 30, 1992. Surviving are four children: Wayne Jr. (J.R.), Kenneth Dale, Anna Lee Maze and her husband ,Ted, and William Douglas; two sisters: Bettie Ruth Wells and Hettie Lee Diehl and her husband, Gary; six grandchildren: Melinda Michelle Thompson and her husband, Daniel, Aubrey Lynn Mill and her husband Jan, Lesley Ann Miracle and her husband, Joshua, Michael Steven Maze, Melissa and Jennifer Johnson; three great-grandchildren: Alexis, Dylan and Jackson; and several nieces, nephews aunts and cousins. She attended Central Church of Christ. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 12th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Wilbur Fields and Daryl Simon officiating. Hammons of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. She was born March 15, 1924 in Milton, Kentucky. She married Elmer J. Matthew Hammons and he preceded her in death. She later married Ralph Jr. Brown and he also preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Connie Murphy of Bedford, IN, and Carolyn Matthew of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Carrie Ann Pardue and Charlene Hammons. She was a cook in the Indianapolis area. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Thursday, January 13th, at Moffett Cemetery in Milton, KY. Burial will follow. Born on April 19, 1932, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Von and Fannie (Jackson) Price. Surviving are four sisters: Farrel Teague and Eulah Chitwood both of Bloomington, IN; Betty Mundy of Indianapolis, IN, and Jewell Smith of Linton, IN; and his close friend: Helen Parsons of Bedford, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six sisters and one brother. He was a retired construction worker, member of the Laborers Int. Union of North America Local #741 and a Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He married Bettye Jean in 1964 and she died on September 9, 1995. She married Emmit Wayne Hall in 1949, and he died in April 1994. Surviving are two sons, Wayne Hall of Mitchell, IN, and Keith Hall of Springville, IN; two daughters, Kathy Bennett of Bloomington, IN, and Karen Hall of Charlestown, IN; two brothes, Ronald Henderson of Massachusetts and William Henderson of Boston, MA; two sisters, Patricia Fleury of Saugas, MA, and Carol White of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren: Michael Hall, Melonie Sipes, Mandy Mounce, Brandon Mounce, Cindy Hall, Nicole Jones, Stacy Jones, Seth Stultz, and April Hall; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She had been general manager of Heltonville Limestone Co., where she worked 47 years. 01/06/05 Chapman - Marilou Chapman of Mitchell, IN, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at her residence. Born on November 17, 1929, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Harvey and Cassie (Wood) Guthrie. She married James N. Chapman on November 16, 1946, and he died on November 30, 1987. Surviving are two sons, Thomas O. Chapman and Robert N. Chapman, both of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Debra Russell of Mitchell, IN; two sisters, Evelyn Guthrie of Mitchell, IN, and Esther Falk of Monroe, WI; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandson, Caden Chapman and Michael Gray; three sisters; and one brother. She retired from Fleenor's Dry Cleaning in Mitchell. She was a member of Woodville Baptist Church and the Mitchell Senior Citizen. Baker of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on November 4, 1918, in Jackson County, IN, he was the son of Nellie Glover and Marshall Baker. He married Mary A. Bair on July 6, 1941. Surviving with his wife is one son, Charles Keith Baker of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Linda Lee (Baker) Smith of Bedford, IN; one sister, Genevive Cowles of Vallonia, IN; five grandchildren: Bryan K. Smith, Lori D. (Smith) Day, Stacy D. (Baker) Gilmore, Erika M. (Baker) McKinney and Jordan K. Baker; eight great-grandchildren: Hannah, Evan, Riley, Bailee, Dravan, Kinley, Payton and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. He was retired from NSWC CRANE and was a veteran of WW II, serving as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force including thirty-one months overseas. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he had served as an elder, a member of the United Worker’s Sunday School Class, and a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM. (Bert) Foddrill of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, in Bedford. Born January 16, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Louis and Macil (Rainey) Foddrill. He married Lavella Craig in April 1954, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are three daughters: Patty Martin and her husband, Mike, Donna Holler and her husband, David, and Sondra Hubbard and her husband, David, all of Bedford, IN; two brothers, Robert Foddrill and his wife, Flossie, Danny Foddrill and his wife, Linda, all of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren: Kelly Caudill and her husband, Billy, Tammy Taylor and her husband, Harry, Lora Joyner and her husband, Greg, Jimmy Courtright and his wife, Stephanie, Shayne Hubbard, Daymon Hubbard and his wife, Amanda; three step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Deanna Walker and Kristy Lester; one great-niece; one uncle, Dale Rainey and one aunt, Mildred Callahan. He was preceded in death by his parents. He retired from General Motors in Bedford and was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Bedford Boat & Sportsmans Club, Gillen Post #33 American Legion and U.A.W. Local #440. Born on December 12, 1918, in Greenwood, WV, she was the daughter of George Raymond and Myrle (Williams) McCullough. She married Chester Paul "Bud" Morris on November 29, 1938, and he died in 1975. 01/01/05 Fields - Leonard M. Fields of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 1, 2005, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 2, 1912. He was a retired plumber, steamfitter, and farmer and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Wray - Ethel M. Wray of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born February 16, 1919, in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Spaulding) Davis. She married William E. Wray on January 5, 1952, and he died on November 7, 1997. Surviving are one daughter, Joreena Pierce of Mitchell, IN, and one brother, Fred Davis of Oolitic. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and one brother. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hilltop Pentecostal Church.
