10/31/04 Lackey - Lynuel W. Lackey of Bedford, died Sunday, October 31, 2004, at his residence. Born August 21, 1915 in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Preston and Eulalia (Bowman) Lackey. He married Zora M. Mitchell on December 11, 1934 and she preceded him in death on May 29, 2003. Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Blevins of Bedford; two sons, Benny Lackey of Bloomfield and Kenny Lackey of Bedford; ten grandchildren, Terry Blevins, Danny Blevins, Jeff Blevins, Ronnie Blevins, Kim Blevins, Benny C. Lackey, Brad Lackey, Renee Lackey, Derrick Lackey and Kenny Lackey; eight great grandchildren, Joshua and Alyssa Lackey, Ryan, Laura, Kyle, Dustin, Heidi and Jesse Blevins; one great great grandson, Garrett Blevins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Mildred Walters and Mary Roberts. He retired from Otis Elevator in Bloomington and was a member of Old Union Church. He was a veteran of U.S. Navy serving with the SeaBees. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 4th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. 10/30/04 Beasley - Rosie May Beasley of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, October 30, 2004, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on September 29, 1923, in Mitchell, IN, she was the daughter of William Jesse Johnson and Grace (Holt) Hardin. She married Noble Beasley on June 22, 1940, and he died January 22, 2001. Surviving are three sons: Kenneth Beasley of Vienna, VA, Noble Elmer Beasley of Mitchell, IN, and Michael Dale Beasley of Orleans, IN; one daughter, Peggy McCameron of Mitchell, IN; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Stephen James Beasley and Jesse David Beasley; one daughter, Patricia George; five sisters, one brother, and one half-brother. During her lifetime she worked at Roberts Brass in Mitchell, Travelers Corporation in Orleans, M. Fine & Sons, and Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. She was a member of Spice Valley Baptist Church. Services for Rosie Beasley will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 3rd, at Haverly Mortuary with the Rev. Lewis Williams. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Mundy of Huron, IN, died Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born December 9, 1963, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Edmund and Margaret Ellen (Scott) Mundy. Surviving are one daughter, Laura Mundy of New Albany, IN; two sisters, Penny Jones and Angie Triplett, both of Huron, IN; four brothers: Troy Mundy, Randy Mundy and Donnie Mundy, all of Huron, IN, and Brian Mundy of Hillsdale, MI; and one grandson, Kevin Mundy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents: Lester and Minda Mundy and Pearl and Lola Scott. 10/28/04 Thacker - Nelson Mitchell Thacker of Lawrenceport, IN, died Thursday, October 28, 2004, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on October 7, 1942, in Cumberland County, KY, he was the son of Otis M. and Plumie Mae (Young) Thacker. He married Pauline Pelfrey May 24, 1969, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, William Thacker and wife, Jamie, of Mitchell, IN, and Tony Thacker of Lawrenceport, IN; his parents, Otis and Plumie Thacker of Orleans, IN; three sisters: Lucille Wilson of Smith Grove, KY, Regina Harrison of Orleans, IN, and Letha Johnston of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Charles Thacker of Griffith, IN, and James Thacker of Heltonville, IN; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Andi Thacker. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Ann, in 1971. 10/26/04 Robinson - Jane Stringer Robinson of Springville, IN, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at her residence. Born December 20, 1922, in Columbia, MS (Marian County), she was the daughter of William Jefferson and Frances Victoria Stringer. Surviving are one daughter, Virginia Dale Phillips and her husband, William, of Springville, IN; three grandchildren, Jerome Hettle and his wife, Debbie, of Bedford, IN, Wesley Dale Phillips and his wife, Tina, of Springville, IN, and Lisa Marie Hillenburg and her husband, Robin, of Heltonville, IN; six great grandchildren: Chad Lee and Dawn Marie Hillenburg, Daniel Curtis and Darren Wesley Phillips, Carla Renee Hettle and Colin Michael Crose; two sisters, Sue Word of Jackson, MS, and Pearl Rayburn of Reseda, CA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Boe, Prentiss and Larkin Stringer; and two sisters, Lillian Stringer and Holly Crawley. She retired from Indiana University in 1975 and was a member of Good Hope Church in Columbia, MS. Born October 6, 1938, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Harlon and Mary V. (Clark) Kelley. Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Vincent of Bloomington, IN; two sons, John David York of Bedford, IN, and Mark York of Bloomington, IN; three brothers, Bill Kelley of Bloomington, IN, Stanley Kelley of Springville, IN, and Jack Kelley of Mitchell, IN; four sisters: Joan Wubben of Springville, IN, Norma Mikels and Beverly Fletcher, both of Springsfield, MS, and Rebekah Goss of Bedford, IN; her long-time companion, Kenny Kern of Bedford, IN; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Steven (in infancy) and one daughter, Cindy. She was employed in the home health care field and a member of Life Tabernacle in Springville. Friends may call from 10:00 am until the service time Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. 10/23/04 George - Chester E. “Chet” George of Heltonville, IN, died Saturday, October 23, 2004, at Meadowview Health and Rehab. Center in Salem, IN. Born July 16, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Goodlet and Elsie (Herald) George. He married Shirley Cummings (Flinn) on February 9, 1989, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are three sons: David E. George and his wife, Kathy, of Bedford, IN, Michael George and his wife, Mary, of Ellettsville, IN, and Kevin Flinn and his wife, Crystal, of Heltonville, IN; four daughters: Eldena M. Wilson of Clarksville, IN, Rita Carol Roberts and her husband, Richard, of Shoals, IN, Frieda K. Brain and her husband, Jeff, of Bedford, IN, and Beverly Morrison and her husband, Larry, of Norman, IN; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gene George; one sister, Bernice Orlick; and three grandsons: Thomas C. George, Varian S. George and Nathan Tyler Howe. He was a mechanic and body repair man in Lawrence County and a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army and later as a member of the National Guard. He was a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion, the Bedford Boat & Sportsmans Club, Bedford Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and gardening. Staggs - Vollie Staggs of East Oolitic, IN, died Saturday, October 23, 2004, at his residence. Born on November 3, 1932, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Mitchell and Alice (Jones) Staggs. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Staggs, who preceded him in death and then married Judith Mullinax on June 25, 1988, and she survives. Surviving with his wife is one son, Gary Staggs of Oolitic, IN: one step-daughter, Trevada Wade of Oolitic, IN; two step-sons, Bryon Brazzel of Mitchell, IN, and Alan Brazzel of Owensburg, IN; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dwight Staggs of Bedford, IN, and Danny Staggs of East Oolitic, IN; two sisters June Pierce of Springville, IN, and Gail Armstrong of Avoca, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Rita Trueblood, one sister Eva Anderson. He was retired from Indiana Limestone after 45 years. Beasley of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, October 22, 2004, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born July 26, 1915, in Knox County, IN, she was the daughter of Newton and Elzora (Grimes) Winkler. She married Fred Beasley April 24, 1933, and he died July 11, 1983. Surviving are one son, Russell Beasley and wife, Sue, of Mitchell, IN; one daughter, Moyne Powell and husband, Bernard, of Bedford, IN; one daughter in law, Delores M. Beasley, of Mitchell, IN; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Charles E. Beasley; sister, Hazel Brim; brothers, Gerald Winkler and Herald Winkler; and one great-grandchild. Sipes - Ronald D. Sipes of Bedford, IN, died Friday, October 22, 2004, at the Bloomington Hospital. Born on October 27, 1941, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Merlin and Martha (Taylor) Sipes. He married Sally Ann Bemish on October 31, 1964, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one daughter: Dawn Basquez and her husband, Michael, of Fountain Valley, CA; two sons: Ronald J. Sipes and his fiancée, Susan Linton, and David W. Sipes, all of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren: Anthony, Christian, Elysa and Rhys Basquez, Ryan Sipes and Landon Minton; two brothers, Elzy Sipes and his wife, Sherry, of Columbus, IN, and Larry Sipes and his wife, Judy, of Mitchell, IN; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bonnie Sipes and Joan Kubina. He was in the trucking industry for 25 years, retiring as a vice-president, and he has been the owner of Divine Auto Supply in Bedford since 1990. He was a 1959 graduate of Fayetteville High School and attended Indiana University. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for 3 years. Services for Ronald Sipes will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 26th at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Merla Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Kern of Williams, IN, died Thursday, October 21, 2004, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born June 9, 1920, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Cecil and Lois (Sheeks) Kern. He married Maeda Ellen Spreen on June 27, 1941, and she died on January 24, 2001. He was a farmer; and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. 10/19/04 Bridwell - Chester G. Bridwell of Bedford, IN, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born December 22, 1919, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ben and Mabel (Cain) Bridwell. He married Jane Moore in 1948 and she died in 1969. He later married Wanda Grissom in 1975 and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Benny Lee Bridwell; one nephew, Biffton Elliott of Bedford, IN; one step-daughter, Beth Kahn of Knoxville, TN, and one step-grandson, Dylan Kahn of Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane. He was the owner of Bridwell Appliances in Bedford for many years. He was a graduate of Needmore High School and a veteran of WW II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church, American Legion Gillen Post #33, Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Bedford Elks Lodge. There will be graveside services for Chester Bridwell at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 22nd, at Green Hill Cemetery with Richard Chase officiating. No calling hours are scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary. 10/16/04 White - Noble Glenn White of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, October 16, 2004, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born August 19, 1911, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Arrelus and Bertha (Burton) White. He married Margaret Frances York November 29, 1944, and she survives. He was a retired employee of Carpenter Body Works and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Wilkins - Robert C. Wilkins of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, October 16, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born May 2, 1916, in Campbellsburg, IN, he was the son of Dale and Hazel (Collier) Wilkins. He married Carolyn Johnson May 4, 1951, and she survives. He was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ. He worked at Carpenter Body Works for many years and was the owner of Bob Wilkins Carpet Cleaning for 35 years. He was a 1935 graduate of Campbellsburg High School. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Services for Robert Wilkins will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 21st, at the Mitchell Church of Christ with Brother Allen Burris, John Wilkins and Jay Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans, with graveside military rites accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Puckett of Oolitic, IN, died Friday, October 15,2004, at his residence. Born on February 3, 1939, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Ruby Puckett. Surviving are two sons: Michael L. Puckett of Spring City, TN and Gary A. Puckett of Marietta GA; two brothers: Bob Boling of Indianapolis, IN and Paul Boling of Oolitic; three grandchildren: Ashley Puckett, Leah Puckett and Bradley Puckett. He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister: Beverly Brassine. He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad in Chicago and was of Pentecostal Faith. Hospital in Greencastle. Born March 2, 1926, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of Everrett and Jesse (McKibbens) Allen. He married Virginia Melvin and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Celeste Blanton of Greencastle, IN, and Anita Allen of Coral Springs, FL; six grandchildren, Dr. Demetrius Patton, Derek Patton, Crystal Blanton, Aaron Allen, Wyatt Allen and Jordan Allen; eight great-grandchildren, Chaise, Elijah, Dominic, Jalin, Madeline, Molly, Orion and Elaine; four sisters: Pauline Tuttle, Martha Kidwell, Ethel Tow and Phyllis Kidwell all of Shoals, IN. He was preceded in death by other brothers and sisters and one daughter, Elaine Allen. He was retired from General Motors in Indianapolis and a member of the Central Church of Christ. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the United State Marine Corps. Clark of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 14, 2004, at her residence. Born December 20, 1943, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Russell and Audrey (Buher) Day. She married Marvin Clark on November 28, 1964, and he survives. Surviving are her husband, one son Kyle Clark of Bedford, her mother, Audrey Day of Bedford, one sister Linda White of Mitchell, one brother, Berry Day of Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her father. She retired from Thompson, Bloomington, IN, was a member of New Union Christian Church and attended Hillcrest Christian. Hash of Bedford, IN, died on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at the Hospitality House of Bedford. Born on July 15, 1921, in Macon County, IL., she was the daughter of Dex and Ethel (Brock) White. She married Bernard Hash on December 12, 1941, and he died August 3, 1999. Survivors include two sons: Terry D. Hash and Steven Hash, both of Bedford, IN; one daughter, Kathy Tosti of Bedford, IN; two grandchildren: Jama Cox and David Easton, both of Bedford, IN; two great-grandchildren: Chloe Cox and Nathaniel Easton; and one sister, Kathleen Brown of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death her husband and one grandson, Daniel Easton. Rodman - John Rodman of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 14, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 11, 1925, in Heinsboro, IL, he was the son of Bine and Ida Mae (Caradin) Rodman. He married Inez Marie Parker on May 11, 1949, in Bedford, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Dennis Rodman of Paoli, IN, and Bruce Rodman of Carlyle, IL; one brother, Russell Rodman of Bloomington, IN; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Anderson of Springville, IN; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Tom Rodman on January 20, 2001; seven brothers: Vern, Melvin, Ed, Gilbert, Wilburn, Theodore and Leroy Rodman; and four sisters: Violet, Cordy, Bessie and Ruth. 10/11/04 Leaf - Jerry Dean Leaf of Indianapolis and Bonita Springs, FL, died on Monday, October 11, 2004. Born on November 26, 1936, in Avoca, IN, he was the son of Fred Mitchell and June Leaf. Surviving are two sons, Brad Leaf and Greg Leaf, both of California; six grandchildren: Shawn Lee, Erin Jennings, Trent Leaf, Troy Leaf, Talia Leaf and T.J. Leaf, all of California; and one great-grandson, Jacob Lee; two brothers: Buddy Leaf and Mike Leaf, both of Indianapolis; and one sister, Jean Duckworth of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Mitchell; his mother, June Leaf; and one brother, Jimmy Leaf. 10/10/04 Adams - Mary Carletta "Carla" Adams of Oklahoma City, OK, died on Sunday, October 10, 2004, at her residence. Born on March 6, 1953, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of Woodrow Carl and Mary Frances (Daugherty) Cassidy. She married Spencer H. "Bud" Adams on September 18, 1970, and he survives. Surviving with her husband are one son, Spencer W. Adams and her daughter-in-law, Denise, of Oklahoma City, OK; two granddaughters: Cassie and Jaci Adams, both of Oklahoma City, OK; her mother, Mary Frances Cassidy of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Theresa Keith and Rita Lane, both of Mitchell, IN, and Anita Asbery of Bedford, IN; and two brothers: Michael and William Cassidy, both of Bedford, IN. She was preceded in death by her father. 10/09/04 O'Brien - Francis H. "Frank" O'Brien of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at his residence. Born on June 30, 1920, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of John Joseph "Jack" and Elizabeth (Mahoney) O'Brien. He married Frances A. McCann on April 12, 1947, and she died September 4, 1998. Surviving are one son, William Patrick O'Brien and his wife, Rhonda, of Bedford, IN; three daughters, Ann Florence Trueblood and her husband, Phillip, of Diamond Bar, CA, Martha Marie Turner and her husband, Steve, of Bedford, IN, and Elizabeth Rose Frazier of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Gertrude "Nootsie" McMullen of Bedford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; six brothers: Joseph, Gregory, William "Bill" and John O'Brien, and two in infancy; and two sisters, Kathleen O'Brien Bridwell and one in infancy. A 1938 graduate of Bedford High School, he worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Co. of Bedford for 38 years, retiring in 1979; and he was also owner/operator of O'Brien's Liquors of Bedford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the Army Signal Corps in Panama during World War II. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Bedford; Knights of Columbus No. 1166; Elks Lodge No. 826; American Legion Gillen Post No. 33; Eagles Lodge No. 654 and 40 & 8, all of Bedford; and V.F.W. Post No. 1686 of Oolitic. Watson - Colleen C. (Borton) Watson of Bedford, IN, Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Hospitality House in Bedford. She was born October 23, 1929. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Dale Watson of Tennessee and Steve D. Watson of Brownstown, IN; three daughters: Marie E. Watson of Bedford, IN, Linda M. Lowe of Louisville, KY, and Connie J. Duarte of Depauw, IN; a half-sister, Frances of Indianapolis; and several grandchildren. Williamson - George K. Williamson of Bedford, IN, died on Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on May 6, 1915, in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of William and Alice Williamson. He married June Shelburn Williamson and she died on July 29, 1972. Surviving are one son, Earl Williamson and his wife, Joyce, of Nashville, TN; one grandson, James Wildeman of New York; two granddaughters, Paula Nelson and Kelly Mosier and her husband, Mike, all of Bedford, IN, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother, Jack Williamson. He retired from the Milwaukee Railroad as a yard master after thirty-five years. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM and Murat Shrine Club. He was the treasurer of Santa’s Helpers from 1979 to the present. Surviving with his wife are three sons: Mason Lee Bell of the U.S. Marine Corps, Camp Pendleton, CA, Jason Keith Bell of Paoli, IN, and Jerry Bell of Huron, IN; two sisters, Carolyn Bundy and Helen Sharpe, both of Mitchell, IN; two brothers, Larry Bell and Gary Bell, both of Mitchell, IN; and his mother-in-law, Mary Hutslar of Mitchell, IN. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, Geneva Bell Ellis; one brother, Kenneth Bell; and one niece, Tammy Smale. 10/07/04 Plummer - Marjorie Plummer of Bedford, IN, died Thursday, October 7, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born March 22, 1920, in Bedford, IN, she was the daughter of James Earl and Claudia (Murray) Martindale. She married John Maurice Plummer and he preceded her in death. Surviving are three children, John Plummer of Bedford, IN, Carol Oberschmidt of Berlin, Germany, and William Plummer of Herndon, VA; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death her husband. 10/06/04 Bauer - Charles W. Bauer of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, October 7, 2004, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born September 3, 1927, in Martin County, IN, he was the son of John C. and Sophia M. (Braun) Bauer. He married Agnes Bernease Dillon on September 19, 1953, in Bedford, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Michael W. Bauer of Huntsville, AL.; one daughter, Robyn E. Bauer of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren, Sara J. Colvin and Patrick M. Bauer; two great-grandchildren, Kelly J. Bauer and Zachary S. Colvin; and one brother, Albert E. Bauer of Shoals, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James C. Bauer; and two brothers, Henry Bauer and Norman Bauer. Henderson - Robert L. Henderson of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born June 8, 1941, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Glenn and Anna Jean (Cassidy) Henderson. He married Rita Ann Terrell, and she survives. Surviving with his wife are two stepchildren, Angela Lee Adcock and her husband, Brian, of Bedford and Curtis Arthur Nicholson, all of Bedford, IN; five step-grandchildren: Lynette Pavey, Phillip Adcock, Paul Adcock, Bret Adcock and Wyatt Nicholson; and one sister, Anita "Ann" Curtis of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Richard Henderson. He was self-employed as an auto mechanic and auto body repairman and was a local musician, playing the guitar. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Services for Robert Henderson will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 9th, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33. Born August 1, 1917, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Elza D. and Edna (Stultz) Hawkins. She married Ernest E. Gentry on August 21, 1938, and he died on December 9, 1976. She was a homemaker and a long-time member of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church of Bedford. 10/04/03 Atkinson - Betty June Mayden Atkinson of Mitchell, IN, died on Monday, October 4, 2004, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center in Mitchell. Born December 11, 1921, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Oval Murray and Ruby Fern (Smith) Mayden. She married Gene A. Atkinson April 13, 1941, and he survives. Surviving are with her husband are two sons: Bradley Gene Atkinson of Centerville, IN, and Jerry Wayne Atkinson of Marion, IN; three daughters: Patricia Ray Atkinson of Orleans, IN, Amy Lynn Parker of Mitchell, IN, and Charlotte Rose Atkinson of Bedford, IN; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death one son, Eric Lee Atkinson; one brother, Wayne Carter Mayden; and one sister, Margie Lois York. Taylor - Edith Mae Taylor of Mitchell, IN, died Monday, October 4, 2004, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehab Center. Born on July 6, 1933, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Tandy and Susie (Lucas) Craft. She married Green Gibson and he died in 1975. She next married Chris Taylor and he died in February, 2000. She had worked at the Shoals Bus Station; and retired from RCA in Bloomington in 1975. 10/03/04 Perry - Betty L. Perry of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born June 2, 1927, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Walter and Sara (Pitman) Cummings. She married Ernest Turpin and he preceded her in death. She married Burchill Perry and he also preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Ray "Sonny" Turpin of Bedford, IN; two daughters: Judy Cazee and Linda Perry, both of Bedford, IN; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son, Brian L. Perry; and two sisters: Betty Mae Byers and Dorothy Fern Hatfield. She was a homemaker; and had also worked as a waitress; in sales at RCA in Bloomington; and at North Lawrence Community Schools Corp. She was a member of Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church. Smith - D. Maxine Smith of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, October 3, 2004. Born on August 15, 1922, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Sanley “Doc” and Hazel (Adams) Bartlett. She married Herman W. Smith on December 3, 1939 and he survives. Surviving are her husband are one daughter, Brenda Hillenburg and her husband, Bob, of Heltonville, IN; two sons, Bernard “Bud” Smith and his wife, Shirley, and Barry Don “Buck” Smith and his wife, Sharon, all of Bedford, IN; seven grandchildren: Dedra Hawkins, Michelle Cornett and her husband, Dennis, LeAnn Godsey, Lisa Daab and her husband, Tim, Robin Hillenburg and his wife, Lisa, Wendy Raines and her husband, Dan, Tina Brooking and her husband, Jerry; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Joe Bartlett; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Sharr and Helen Hancock; and four brothers: Teddy, Sammy, Richard and Bernard “Pug” Bartlett. She and her husband owned Maxine’s Restaurant in Bartlettsville for over fifty years. She was a charter member of Country Christian Church. Born on July 16, 1935, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Hassel Young and Ola (Turpin-Young) Scott. He married Anna Ruth Armstrong on December 13, 1953 and she survives. Surviving with his wife are one son, Danny Young of Bedford, IN; two daughters, Denise Hatfield of Bedford, IN, and Deana Young of Gosport, IN; seven grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Bobby Young. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church. Born on October 17, 1925, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Ellis and Verna (Green) White. Surviving are two sons, Richard M. Cocks of Trophy Club, TX, and Vincent D. Cocks of St. Petersburg, FL; one sister, Rowena Brooks of Mitchell, IN; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Casey James Cocks; one brother, John Paul White; and four sisters, Ellen Cargas, Goldie McClintic, Geneva Mann and Priscilla Mann preceded her in death. There will be a memorial service for Shirley Cocks 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 5th, at the First Baptist Church in Mitchell with the Rev. Mark Pittman officiating. Born July 20, 1928, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Burness Estele and Mary Veronice (Williamson) Greenlee. She married Fred E. Edwards January 8, 1953, and he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ladies of the Moose and Order of Eastern Star. Services for Ramona Edwards will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 6th, at Chastain Funeral Home. Fields of Mitchell, IN, died Saturday, October 2, 2004, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Born November 24, 1924, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of James and Etta (Rariden) Carpenter. She married Claty "Jake" Fields January 11, 1941, and he died on December 9, 1998. She was a retired employee of Sarkes-Tarzan and a member of Huron Baptist Church. 10/01/04 Barrett - Marjorie Evelyn Whitted Barrett of Bedford, IN, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at Hospitality House. She married Robert L. Barrett, and he survives. Surviving with her husband is one sister, Maxine Raney of Mooresville. She was a homemaker. Smith - Pauline K. Smith of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at Mitchell Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on August. 9, 1916, in Washington County, IN., she was the daughter of Robert Oliver Kelley and Oma Leona (Trinkle) Kelley. She married Emory Smith on Nov. 15, 1947. He died on March 12, 1977. Surviving are four nephews: Ronnie Quebbeman and Donald Quebbeman, both of Bedford, IN; Robert and Marvin Kelley of Arizona; and two nieces, Sonja Taylor of Mitchell, IN, and Ellen Kelley.
