GuthrieMay 6, 1946 — Feb. 19,2010 Surrounded by her beloved family and friends at her home, Sharon K. Guthrie went home to be with the Lord on Friday after waging a courageous battle with various health problems. Sharon was born in Lansing, Mich., on May 6, 1946, to Neal B. Odom and Mary Caroline Flinn Odom. She married Harold “Scott” Guthrie on Feb. 12, 1965, and he survives. Additionally, she leaves behind a son, Gregory Scott Guthrie (Tricia) of Bedford and a daughter, Sharyl Ann Guthrie Harper (Tod) of Mooresville. Her pride and joy, and the loves of her life, were her six grandchildren, Kayla R. Guthrie, Jessica R. Guthrie, Hanna J. Guthrie, Alexzandra “Alli Brook” Gurthrie, Shayla K. Harper and Traver S. Harper. She was so very proud of their numerous accomplishments. Sharon was in her glory and happiest while with (or talking about) these great grandchildren. Sharon was a member of the Oolitic Church of Christ. Sharon owned and operated the Creative Financial Centre (CFC) where she offered financial and estate planning. Later she purchased and established the Jacob Diehl House Tea Room, located on 16th Street, specializing in serving organic foods and teas as well as her antiques and gift shop. She worked diligently to refurbish and restore the old Victorian house to its former splendor and was very proud of her accomplishments in that endeavor. Until her health broke, Sharon was very active in the Tea Room and greatly regretted having to close its doors. Sharon was also very active in the Rotary Club of Bedford, serving as President as well as numerous other positions in the organization. She and Scott were the “parents” of an exchange student, Lucas Padue Oliveira from Brazil in 2002. After his years stay in Bedford, they traveled back to Brazil with him and met and visited with his family for three weeks. They established a great friendship with both him and his family. To this day they continue to keep in touch. Another group near and dear to Sharon’s heart were the members of the local chapter of the Red Hat Society. She loved to be with all her “Red Hatter Ladies.” They were very active in the community and took multiple trips together — enjoying life to its fullest. Anyone who knew Sharon knew her as “tenaciously hard-headed” but with a heart as big as the outdoors. There was never a project too big or a job too hard for Sharon to tackle and conquer. She was strong in her beliefs and always ready to have fun and to venture someplace new and exciting. She loved to play cards and board games and was a delight to her grandchildren because she was always ready to “play something with them” — winning most of the time! Sharon also leaves behind two sisters, Bev A. Kimble (Bill) of Bedford, and Kathy A. Nelson (Gerald) of Wisconsin; her stepmother, Jerrie R. Odom Ramey; her mother-in-law of 45 years, Helen Guthrie; numerous brother and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; cousins; and a large group of childhood and lifetime friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; aunts and uncles; another sister, Nadine Underwood; her father-in-law, Harold Guthrie; and a great-nephew, Evan Kimble Hughes. Funeral services will be conducted by the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. Sharon requested cremation and her wishes will be followed. Visitation will be from 4–8 p.m. on Monday. Her brother-in-law, Paul Guthrie, will preach her funeral at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Sharon asked that her friends consider donations to the Bedford Rotary Club Education Fund, in her memory. Contributions may be mailed to the Lawrence County Community Foundation, 1016 15th St., Bedford, IN 47421. Feb. 19, 2010Lois A. SmithNov. 30, 1923 — Feb. 18, 2010 Lois A.
