James F. Cecil, 74, of Seymour, died Friday at The Waters nursing home in Seymour. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Dr. Gordon Thomas Hardman, 73, of Mitchell, died Friday at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Calling will be 3-8 p.m. Monday at Chastain Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Lorene B. Williams

Sept. 26, 1911 — Jan. 28, 2010

Lorene B. Williams, 98, passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Thursday at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Lorene was born in Lawrence County on Sept. 26, 1911, the daughter of Josiah and Anna (White) Trueblood. She married Kenneth Williams on Dec. 2, 1940, and he preceded her in death in April 1968.

She was employed for 20 years by Sterling Drug Store and Morrison’s Office Supplies, and was a member of the Central Church of Christ and Port Williams Church of Christ.

Survivors include nieces, Mary Kay Schnuck (husband, Tom) of Muncie; Beverly Temple of North Canton, Ohio; Martha Trueblood of Sarasota, Fla.; Virginia Boeldt of Dallas, Texas; and Ruth Reily of Tampa, Fla; and nephews, Kenny Trueblood (wife, Karen) of Indianapolis; Glen Hill of Terre Haute; David Hill (wife, Phyllis) of Bedford; and Lorene’s caretakers, Arthur Hill (wife, Vicky) of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy Trueblood, Earl Trueblood and Arthur Trueblood; three sisters, Nola Edwards, Hazel Hill and Lucille Trueblood; one niece, Nancy Deckert; two nephews, Bernard Edwards and Robert Hill; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services for Mrs. Williams will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Bro. Darrell Simon officiating, and burial to follow at the Cresthaven Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call on Saturday, from 4–7 p.m. at the funeral home, and Sunday, 12 p.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m.

Donald E. Mitchell

Dec. 22, 1929 — Jan. 28, 2010

Donald E. Mitchell, 80, Bedford, died at 11:59 a.m. Thursday at Dunn Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Bedford, the son of Basil and Lula (Phillips) Mitchell. He first married Doris Sipes Quillen and secondly to Lois Robbins on July 1, 1978, in Bedford, and she survives.

He is a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 9107 and American Legion Post No. 250, both of Mitchell; Eagles No. 654; Korean War Veterans Association; Disabled American Veterans Association; 73rd Tankers Battalion Association; the Retired Enlisted Association; Blind Veterans Association; and Hines Blind Center Alumni Association of Hines, Ill.

Surviving with his wife Lois, of Bedford; are two sons, Mike Mitchell and wife Cathy, and Donald Brent Mitchell, all of Bedford; four daughters, Connie Cockerham and husband Stanley of Medora, Frances “Blue” Runyon of Bloomington, Sherri Taylor and husband Ralph of Seymour, and Marie Voyles of Key West, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Croy of Bedford; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Mitchell of Shoals and Anise Mitchell of Beech Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Morris, Dean and Harold Mitchell; and one brother-in-law, Audley “Bud” Croy.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Joshua Derring and Brother Duane Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery in Monroe County. Military graveside rites will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 250 of Mitchell.

Tressie L. Scherschel

Dec. 21, 1915 — Jan. 28, 2010

Tressie Louise Scherschel, 94, Bedford, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday at Garden Villa of Bedford.

She was born Dec. 21, 1915, in Danville, Ind. she was the daughter Walter Greigh Steele and Ruth Pearl (Lane) Steele. She married John P. Scherschel, M.D., on Dec. 31, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1974.

She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School with the Class of 1933 and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University School of Arts and Sciences in Bloomington.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford and the Red Rose Circle, choir, bell choir of the church; Dunn Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies Auxiliary; a long-time American Red Cross volunteer; Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, Psi Iota XI sorority and was its past president; Ladies of the Round Table; Bedford Hiking Club; Bedford Supper Club; U.S. Power Squadron; and a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association.

She was an avid traveler and had been on several mission trips on every continent, with the exception of Antartica; and had walked in several Volksmarches all over the U.S. after the age of 70.

Survivors include five sons, Steven Scherschel of Muncie, Gregory Scherschel and wife Peggy of Columbus, Mark Scherschel and wife Susan of Bedford, Matthew Scherschel and wife Patricia of Valparaiso, and Kim P. Scherschel, M.D., and wife Marty of Bedford; one daughter-in-law, Lynne B. Scherschel of Crown Point; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ernestine Judy of Bainbridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, J. Kent Scherschel, M.D., on Nov. 27, 1971; one brother, Ernest Steele; and one great-grandson, Nicholas Ault.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at the First Christian Church in Bedford, with Pastor Robert Dailey officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at the church.

Martha J. Robbins

July 14, 1924 — Jan. 26, 2010

Martha Jane Robbins, 85, of Bedford, died Tuesday after a long illness.

Born July 14, 1924, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Dollis and Samuel Stevens. She spent her childhood in southern Indiana. She married Garrel Edwin Robbins on Sept. 15, 1940. When he enlisted in the Navy in World War II, she moved to Santa Barbara, Calif.

After the war, they returned to Bedford to start their family. When their children were school age, she returned to school, completing her high school education and earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University. While teaching in local area schools, she finished her master’s degree in education. She retired in 1985 after teaching for over a decade at Grandview Elementary School in Bloomington.

She is survived by two children, Steven Ronald Robbins of Bedford and Rebecca Robbins-Jessee, M.D. of Williams; a granddaughter, Anna Marie Robbins of Orleans; and two sisters, Mary Ann Culhan of Bedford and Patsy Smith of Washington.

Her devoted husband, Garrel, predeceased her shortly after celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary.

There will be a private funeral for family members on Saturday. No calling hours are scheduled.

Mary Jo Armstrong

July 23, 1915 — Jan. 28, 2010

Mary Jo (Haley) Bolton Armstrong, 94, of Bedford passed away Thursday at her residence.

She was born July 23, 1915, in Bedford, the daughter of Grant S. and Alice Rowe Able Haley. She married Roscoe Bolton on Dec. 21, 1946, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1979. She then married Lowell Armstrong on Jan. 9, 1981, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, three half-brothers, one half-sister, and a nephew.

Surviving are one granddaughter, Misty (Roberts) Adams and her family of Bedford; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Following graduation from Bedford High School in 1933, she attended Greenville College in Greenville, Ill., and Indiana University in Bloomington where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. She later completed additional graduate work at Indiana University.

She began her 38-year career as an educator at the old Central School in Bedford, where she taught elementary classes from 1937-1942. She then served as the principal until the school was vacated and students transferred to the new Parkview School, where she served as principal until 1966 when she accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Education. She returned to the classroom in 1970, teaching one year at Fayetteville followed by four years at Madden Elementary School before retiring in 1975. In addition to organizing the first kindergarten program in Lawrence County, she also taught in the graduate school at the University of Indianapolis and the Audio-Visual Department at Indiana University.

Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and spending many winter months in Largo, Fla., where she had a home with her husband Lowell, who was also a retired educator. She was active in the Lawrence County Art Association where she turned out more than 300 oil paintings. Her other artistic talents included working with stained glass in her home studio. She also was a member of Bedford’s Organ Club and enjoyed hosting musical gatherings in her home.

In addition to being the charter president of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority in 1942, she was a charter member and past president of Bedford’s Altrusa Club and had been a member of the National Education Association, Indiana State Principal’s Association, Indiana State Teacher’s Association, Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association, Bedford school board and Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Millard Jones of the East Oolitic Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Kim Scherschel, Judy Bolton, Maxine Cosby, Lou Ann Craig, Heidi Chenault Forest, Kathy Luallen, Jeanie Manion, Nellie Mikels, Marlene Norman, Jimmy Roll, and Camilla Terrell for providing the care that assisted her to remain in the home she was born in until her passing.

Frankie S. Brinegar

Feb. 13, 1936 — Jan. 27, 2010

Frankie Sue Brinegar, 73, of Vincennes, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday in Knox County.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1936, in Bedford, the daughter of Frank and Lucille Johnson who preceded her in death.

Frankie was a homemaker first, being the mother of four boys and a retired Walmart employee of 21 years where she greeted everyone with smiles. She graduated from Shawswick High School and had been a member of Erie United Methodist Church, active in Girl Scouts among other activities in her early years.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth (Kenny) Brinegar, whom she married Nov. 24, 1954, and was the love of her life; sons and their spouses, Ken and Lisa Brinegar of Alpharetta, Ga., Karl and Leah Brinegar of Bedford, Kevin and JoEllen Brinegar of Bedford, Kurt and Tracy Brinegar of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren, Tiffany Brinegar-Hobson, Clint Brinegar, Ryan Brinegar, Kyle Brinegar, Skylar Brinegar, April Armstrong, Alison Armstrong, Austin Armstrong, Kirby Brinegar, and Bryson Brinegar; and one great-granddaughter, Kensley Brinegar; two sisters, Catherine Webster and Marilyn Jackson of Bedford; and one brother, Jerry Johnson of Madison.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will be in Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Catherine R. Hannum, 82, of 709 Maple Street, Oolitic, died at 1:24 a.m. on Wednesday at Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Born July 5, 1927, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of John and Effie Stewart. She married Warren Hannum in November 1943, and he preceded her in death in November 1982. She had worked at Home Laundry in Bedford and Leonard’s Linen Service in Bloomington. She did sewing for people and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

Survivors include a son, Warren Dale Hannum and companion Diane Golubski of Judah; a daughter, Elizabeth Hurley of Oolitic; grandchildren, Ayshea Sharpe and husband Cleve of Oolitic, Alan Hannum of Chapel Hill, Robby Hurley and companion Stephanie Berry of Oolitic, Phyllis Wilson and husband Lloyd of Bedford; and great-grandchildren, Arminda, Ian and Sagan Sharpe, Talan Hurley, Junior and Carolyn Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Carolyn Burgess; great-granddaughter, Brogan Hurley; brothers, Charles and Dean Stewart, and Lloyd Godsey; sister, Audrey Owens.

Michael J. Giles

Michael Jayson Giles, 56, of Paoli, formerly of Martinsville and Franklin, passed of natural causes on Monday at his residence.

Born Nov. 14, 1953, in Martinsville, he was the son of Donald E. Giles and Mary K. (Shaw) Dennis.

He was a mechanic and a life-time motorcycle racing competitor and enthusiast. He was of the Methodist faith and an avid gun collector and member of the NRA.

Mike will be remembered as a true and loyal friend, a loving uncle and protective son and brother.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Dennis of Beech Grove; three sisters, Jennifer Manzenberger of Bedford, Conni Law of Columbus, Miss. and Sherri Lynn Giles of Martinsville; three nephews; four nieces; one great-nephew; and his extended family, the Thurbers and Brad Jones families.

He was preceded in death by his father; two nephews, Thomas George and Christopher Saeger; his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Mundell Cemetery with Kasey Law officiating. Burial will follow.

Curtis L. Speer, 84, Bloomington, died at 7:25 a.m. Monday at The Waters of Martinsville.

Born May 26, 1925, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Hubert and Lois (Kindred) Speer. He married Maurine Peek on Dec. 25, 1959, and she survives.

He was retired from Otis Elevator after 21 years of employment.

He is a member of the Hillside Church of Christ in Bloomington and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Maurine Speer of Bloomington; one daughter, Rhonda Speer of Bloomington; one son, Roger Speer of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Juanita Shepperd and Gail Connerley; two brothers, Ed “Bud” Speer, and Gerald Speer; one stepbrother, David Tidd; and two stepsisters, Eva Silvers and Virginia Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mary Tidd Speer; five brothers, Everett, Wilburn, Jasper, Edwin and Delbert Speer; one sister, Geneva Henderson; and four stepbrothers, Paul, Charles, Raymond, and Robert Tidd.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.

Cynthia D. Coressel

Cynthia D. Coressel, 54, Bedford, died at 2:47 p.m. Saturday at Bloomington Hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1955, in Louisville, Ky., she was the daughter of Archie and Norma Sue (Stayton) Watson. She married Mark A. Coressel on Sept. 8, 1984, and he survives.

She worked from 1978-1988 as a chemical engineer at Central Foundry (later GM Powertrain) in Bedford, from 1995 until the present she worked as a Library Aide at Shawswick Elementary School.

She was a graduate of Butler High School in Shively (Louisville), Ky., with the class of 1973; a graduate of the University of Louisville Speed Engineering School with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in December 1977.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford.

Surviving are her mother, Norma Sue Watson of Louisville; her husband, Mark A. Coressel of Bedford; two daughters, Katherine Coressel of Indianapolis and Lauren Coressel of Bloomington; two sisters, Libby (Mike) Jansing of Louisville, and Jennifer (Jerry) Vincent of Crestwood, Ky.; one brother, Tim “Bub” (Jeanie) Watson of Greenville; and many other family members, friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Watson in 1978.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford with Father John Breidenbach officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Leonard K. Crosby

Aug. 23, 1925 — Jan. 24, 2010

Leonard Kent Crosby, 84, Bedford, died at 8 p.m. Sunday at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.

He was born Aug. 23, 1925, in New Albany, the son of Ruskin and Georgia (Clipp) Crosby. He married Lynn Yvonne “Von” Loweth on Aug. 28, 1948, in New Albany, and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2004.

He worked as a financial sales representative for Burroughs Corp., and was vice president of Liberty National Bank in Louisville, before working as administrator of Edgewood Medical Clinic, Bedford, until his retirement.

He attended Indiana University and was a graduate of the University of Louisville.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He was past president of Toastmasters Club, past president of Rotary Club; a member of the New Albany American Legion; past member of Bedford Elks Club; past member and board of governors, Hunting Creek Country Club in Louisville; past member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine Temple in Indianapolis.

He was a member of Central Christian Church in New Albany and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by the governor of Kentucky.

Survivors include one son, Michael K. Crosby and wife Nancy of New Orleans, La.; two daughters, Jan C. McNeill and husband Michael of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lynn Beaver and husband David of Bedford; nine grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph R. Crosby of Alpine, Calif., and Dr. Reid C. Crosby of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

No funeral services are scheduled.

Laura E. Pierce

Laura Eleanor Pierce, 91, Mitchell, formerly of Washington, passed away at 12:56 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 28, 1918, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of James Everett and Gertrude Blanche (Lee) Hays. She married Robert C. Herndon March 11, 1939, and he preceded her in death in 1953. Her second marriage was to Roger W. Pierce Aug. 1, 1958, and he preceded her in death May 14, 2005.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington and was a graduate with the Washington High School Class of 1939.

She had assisted her father in the management of the Arlington Hotel.

Surviving are a daughter, Roberta S. Byrd and husband Ron of Morrow, Ohio; a son, David Herndon and wife Sharon of Marietta, Ga.; stepchildren, Douglas Pierce, Karen Hill, and James Pierce, all of Mitchell; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Her parents; both husbands; sisters, Louise Moore, Cleo Sellman, and Ruth Jones; and brother, Clarence Hays, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Smalley and the Rev. Glen Stidd officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Robert L. Johnson

Robert Lowell Johnson, 81, of Bloomington passed away Sunday at Monroe Hospital.

Born Oct. 12, 1928 in Bloomington, he was the son of Lowell and Mary (Crum) Johnson.

Robert was the owner/proprietor of Johnson Hardware and Supply in Bedford and Bloomington.

He was an Evangelist for 30 years and a member of the Hillside Church of Christ in Bloomington.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Phyllis A. (Duncan) Johnson of Bloomington, two sons, Thomas M. Johnson and his wife Georgia of Bloomington, Philip L. Johnson of Bedford, sister, Jean Galyan and her husband Charles Galyan of Bloomington, five grandchildren: Ben, Jennifer, Erica, Alexis, Bryant, and four great- grandchildren, Corbin, Jasper, Brinna and Lillian.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Monty L. Johnson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington, IN 47401 with Brother Steve Watts officiating.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at The Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Johnny R. Baker

Johnny Roy Baker, 89, Norman, passed away at 11:52 a.m. on Monday at the home of his son, Johnny W. and Marie Baker.

He was born in Lawrence County, near Leesville, the son of Shirley L. and Edith (Luallen) Baker. He married Anna Mary Henderson on Feb. 3, 1940, and she survives.

Johnny served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II and was retired from General Motors Powertrain in Bedford, after 30 years of service. He was a faithful member of the Brownstown Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are his spouse, Anna Mary of Norman; one daughter, Judith Ann Green Hanner Morris of Kurtz; two sons, Johnny W. Edna Bagley passed away Thursday in Indianapolis.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Neal Bagley; and seven children.

Private viewing for the immediate family was at the Wilson St. Pierre Mortuary in Indianapolis on Saturday. Graveside services and burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Orleans with the Rev. Charles Kielhorn officiating.

Edna was born in 1929 in Washington County, near Salem. She was the daughter of Roy and Martha Ellen Evans, who resided on their farm in Twin Creek and also farmed in Orange County, near Orleans.

She devoted her life to being a loving wife, homemaker, seamstress, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is the beloved mother of seven surviving children, Stephen and Mary Bagley of Bonita Springs, Fla., Marjorie and Art Courtney of Indianapolis, Mike and Debbie Bagley of Martinsville, Deborah and Roger Nichols of Greenwood, Jim and Debbie Bagley of Mason, Ohio, Cynthia and Skip Sager, of Monmouth, Maine, and Karen and Doug Runiyon of Danville; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Edna graduated from Salem High School with the class of 1947 and she attended Purdue University and Ball State University. In her youth she was baptized and was a member of the Enon Baptist Church in Rush Creek Valley. Edna and John attended the Lutheran Church in Mooresville.

Edna was one of nine children. Preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Martha Ellen Evans; and three brothers, Haskel Evans in 1940, Dan Evans in 1985, and Gerald Evans in 2000. She is survived by her sisters, Ms. Ethel Evans of Bedford, John and Gladys Ponzini of Springville, and Tom and Carol Erwin of Muncie; and her brothers, Cletis and Becky Evans of Leipsic, and Larry and Linda Evans of Paoli.

Wayne “Less” Fender, 100, of Bedford, died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in Bedford.

He was born April 16, 1909, in Lawrence County, the son of Ora and Edla (McPike) Fender. He married Catherine Weir on Sept. 29, 1930 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1958. He then married Mary Hedrick Headdy on Aug. 11, 1963, and she also preceded him in death on July 5, 1995.

He was employed by General Motors for 27 years.

He was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1928. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Bedford and the North Central Church of Christ in Bloomington.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Cunningham and Brenda Brummett, both of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Paulette Fender of Bedford; one stepchild, Winifred Headdy of Grand Junction, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Katherine Fender and Mary Headdy Fender; two daughters, Marilyn Miller and Mary Wessell; one son, Ronaald Fender; three stepchildren, Doris Anderson, Billy Headdy, and Jerry Headdy; and one granddaughter, Lana Kay Wessell.

Mary G. Box, 63, Mitchell, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Born July 31, 1946, in Tipton, she was the daughter of Robert P. Clem and Naomi (Austill) Geary. She married Charles David Box July 5, 1980.

She was employed in housekeeping at Mitchell Manor and was a member of Gateway Ministries.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Box of Mitchell; children, Michelle Johnson, Medford, Oregon, John Thomas and wife Susan of Scott AFB, Ill., and Debra Box and Jennifer Box, both of Mitchell; her mother, Naomi Geary of Mitchell; grandchildren, Danny Pfleider, Jarrid Davis, Kaiya Thomas, Morgan Clemens, Daison Clemens, Makayla Waggoner, Nickolas Thomas, and Alexis Thomas; great-grandchildren, Braden, Kiana, Zane, Braxtyn, Kadence, and Wyatt; siblings, Carl Clem of North Carolina, Jeff Clem of Mitchell, Fred Clem of Orleans, Mel Henderson of Mitchell, and Phillip Geary of Bedford; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters.

Her father and grandson, Joshua Conley, preceded her in death.

Five grandsons survive, David Aaron Galloway, Darin Matthew Galloway, Damon Thomas Joel Galloway, Paul Derek Galloway and Jonathan Scott Cogwell. There are 19 great-grandchildren. One sister, Carolyn and husband Joe Ferriell of Corydon, Indiana, survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Evelyn Freed and her husband Harold Freed.

Margie was a member of Syria Christian Church and the Orleans Chapter of Phi Beta Psi sorority.

The funeral will be on Tuesday, January 26, at 11 a.m. at the Syria Christian Church, Orleans, with Bro. Jimmy Johnson and Bro. Kevin Key officiating. Burial will follow in the Syria Cemetery. Jack B. Chastain, 74, Bedford, died at 5:19 p.m. Thursday at Bloomington Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1935, in Spencer (Owen County), to Howard and Alma (Yaney) Chastain. He married Sue Thomas on Sept. 3, 1960, and she survives.

He was retired from Central Foundry where he was a die cast maker. He was a member of UAW Local 440 and was a member of the Indiana Brotherhood of Motorcycle Campers.

Surviving with his wife, Sue Chastain of Bedford, are three sons, Blane Chastain, Shane Chastain and wife Michelle, and Vane Chastain and wife Susen, all of Bedford; 10 grandchildren, Joshua Chastain, Butch Honeycutt, Joseph Chastain, Corey Shane Chastain, Adam Chastain, Shyann Lee, Destiny Chastain, Molly Chastain, Jade Brinkworth, and Trenton Chastain; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Curt Chastain and wife Gladys of Bedford; one sister, Almeta Walker of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alex Chastain; and a brother, Richard Chastain.

Born Jan. 3, 1937, she was the daughter of Glen and Clara K, (Anderson) Bartley. She retired as the secretary for the Englewood Baptist Church where she was a life-long member, church organist and pianist for many years.

Survivors include her mother, Clara, of Bedford; two brothers, Harold Bartley and wife Sandra and Charlie Bob Bartley, all of Bedford; one aunt, Mary Smith of Bedford; one niece, Debbie Bartley-Strahl and Jerome Williams of Bedford; one nephew, Michael Bartley and wife Joyce of Lizton; two great-nieces, Allison England and husband Tim of Bedford, and Micaela Bartley of Lizton; and a great-nephew, Tyler Strahl of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Robert ‘Bob’ Evans

Robert “Bob” Evans, age 76, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, peacefully from the arms of his loving family immediately to the loving arms of his Lord.

Bob had been a resident of the White River Lodge in Bedford for the past three years, however, before he was admitted into Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford on Jan. 2, he had his bags packed and was ready to move back home with his daughter in Eastern Greene County. Bob was then transferred from Dunn to the Bloomington Hospital on Jan. 6, where he was then placed on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit for 11 days, and then transferred to the Medical floor, where he passed on.

Bob was born on July 13, 1933, in Fayetteville on Pinkston Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murl and Thelma (Miller) Evans; two brothers, Jim and Ben Evans; one sister, Wilma (Evans) Haskett; one grandson, Chad Michael, and also his children’s mother, Mary (Hale).

Survivors include daughter, Trena (Evans) Nikirk and her husband Randy of Bedford, daughter, Christy (Evans) James and her husband Joe of Eastern Greene County, and son, Michael Evans of Oolitic; one sister, Toni Fields of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and two brothers, David Evans of Fayetteville and Bill Evans of Zionsville. His grandchildren, Christopher Nikirk and his wife Amy of Bedford, Brandy (Nikirk) Anderson and her husband Chris of Bedford, Jacob Todd Nikirk and his wife Brittany of Bedford, Lucas Nikirk of Bedford, Tanner Bough and his wife Danielle of Loogootee, Seth and Brice James and fiance Joni Crowe of Eastern Greene County, Jordan Evans, Aaron Evans, Nicholas Evans and Mallory Evans, all of Bedford. Also his beloved great-grandchildren, Casen and Madison Nikirk; Bristol Evan Elijah, Brookson, and Christan Anderson; and Little Tanner, also several nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.

His career took him to Avoca, where he worked (and later retired) from Crulo Trucking, Papaw loved to go mushroom hunting in Eastern Greene County on Christy’s farm, Papaw also loved working his “no weed” garden.

Karen J. Turner, 67, Bedford, and formerly of Mitchell, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at her residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born March 31, 1942, in Bedford, she was the daughter of John M. and Mildred J. (Robinson) Tuddy. She married Charles Turner on Oct. 21, 1958, and he preceded her in death.

She worked many jobs from waitressing to home health before retiring to be a homemaker.

She was a member of the Body of Christ Fellowship Church in Bedford. She devoted most of her time to her Bible studies and her family. She was always trying to win souls to the Lord. She would preach the word to anyone who would listen. She loved nature and animals and also adored being a grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn J. Robinson of Bedford and Lisa G. Taylor of Mitchell; one son, Mike Turner of Bedford; four sisters, Janet Robinson, Diane Robinson, and Rhea Lewis of Bedford, and Rita Lewis of Mitchell; three brothers, John Tuddy of Spencer, Ronnie Tuddy of Bedford and Joe Tuddy of Bloomington; grandchildren, Shirley Turner and Charlene Turner of Manchester, Ky., Dorothy Lewis of Hima, Ky., Michael Turner of Bedford, Cynthia Harper, Samuel Terry, Brooklyn Turner, Dayton Taylor, Joshua Turner, and Jeremiah Turner, all of Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Cody DeZarn, Antion Walker, Kareena Walker, Joshua Henson, Devon Henson, Jesse Saylor, Megan Terry, Brianna Carver, Brayden Terry and Danica Tillett; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Nelson C. Mundy

Sept. 25, 1936 — Dec. 13, 2009

Nelson Carl Mundy, 73, Milton, Fla., previously of Mitchell, Greenville, Mich., and Port Hueneme, Calif., passed away peacefully at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., on Dec. 13, 2009. He received full military honor services in Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS Pensacola, on Dec. 18, 2009.

Nelson was born Sept. 25, 1936, in Huron, the son of Paul and Eva (Miller) Mundy.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years Sandra Mundy; one brother, Knofel Mundy of Bedford; two sisters, Charlotte White and Janelle Grissom, both of Mitchell; children, Shanna Mundy of Mitchell, Duane Mundy of San Antonio, Texas, Kellie Kelley of Mitchell, and Tangela Spreen of Williams; and stepchildren, Diane Letterman of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Reginald Denny of Lake Havasu, Ariz. He was fortunate to have many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one stepson, Kirk Denny.

Nelson entered the United States Navy on June 30, 1958. He spent most of his military career as a Seabee. The U.S. Navy took him all over the world — Korea, two tours in Vietnam, the Philippines, Diego Garcia and Spain to name a few. After 24 years of service, Nelson retired in 1983 as a Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy.

Upon retirement, Nelson and wife Sandra moved to Fenwick, Mich., for several years and then on to Milton, Fla., for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and drinking beer with his buddies in his garage.

Helen Kay Anderson, 72, Bedford, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at her residence.

Born Nov. 8, 1937, in Lafayette, she was the daughter of Roy and Mary (McFall) Ward. She first married Larry Pattison in October 1954, and he preceded her in death in March 1991. She then married Tom Anderson on July 11, 1992, and he survives.

She was a retired accountant with State Farm Insurance in West Lafayette following 26 years of service.

She was a member of the Erie Methodist Church.

Surviving with her husband, Tom Anderson of Bedford; are one daughter, Donna Winchester and husband Randy of West Lafayette; one son, Steve Pattison of Mulberry; four stepsons, Mike, Ted, and Jeff Anderson, all of Bedford, and Greg Anderson of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Matthew and Andy Winchester of West Lafayette, and Nathaniel Pattison of Mulberry; six stepgrandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Francis, Bobby, Murt, and Tommy Ward; two sisters, Mary Ward Patterson and Donna Ward Palmer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; and three brothers, Roy Ward Jr., John Lee Ward and James Ward in infancy.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Erie Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Erie Methodist Cemetery.

Jerry D. Terry, 59, 315 Boone Hollow Road, Williams, died at 3:46 p.m. on Saturday at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford.

Born July 13, 1950, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Robert Terry and Catherine (Hall) Terry McGinnis. He married Carolyn Morris on Jan. 10, 1970, at Silverville Baptist Church and she survives.

He was disabled. He was a member of Silverville Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army Veteran.

Surviving with his wife, Carolyn Terry of Bedford, are two daughters, Dena Terry of Williams and Laura Root and husband Brian of Bedford; one son, Jeremy Terry and wife Michelle of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Joe and Robin Marvin of Mitchell, Charles Newby of Fayetteville, Jake Terry of Fayetteville, Courtney Terry of Fayetteville, Jerri Root, Lauryn Root, Bryson Root, all of Bedford; two brothers, Tony Terry of Silverville and Robert “Bob” Terry of Fayetteville; and one sister, Bonnie Caraway of North Vernon.

Edgar Harold Abner, 83, Leesville Road, Bedford, died at 4:07 p.m. Sunday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 23, 1926, in Germantown, Ohio, the son of Pleas and Jannie (Ginter) Abner. He married Clarice East on Oct. 25, 1947, and she survives.

He was a truck driver for Sims Motor Transport for 33 years and also farmed all his life.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Leesville, where he served as Elder and church treasurer.

Surviving with his wife, Clarice Abner of Bedford; are his children, Joan “Jo” Travis, Raleigh, N.C., and Cindy Powell of Leesville; grandchildren, T.C. Travis of Raleigh, N.C., Beth Mathews of Bedford, Michelle Jacks of Columbus, and Mark Nicholson of Leesville; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lida Jane Greer of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Lou Shear of Columbus, Ethel Stevenson of Brownstown, Patty Nelson of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Carolyn Thompson and Renotta Wilcox, both of Bedford; and brothers, Ernest Abner of Florida, Paul Abner of Limberton, N.C., and David Abner of Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, William, Boyd, Raymond, Robert, Woodfard, and Thomas Dewey.

Ruth Marie “Toots” Phillips, 70, Garden Villa, Bedford, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday at Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 9, 1939, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Hollie and Hazel (Danner) Tolbert.

She had worked at Hospitality House in Bedford for 10 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, had previously worked at RCA in Bloomington and Schlagle Manufacturing in Bloomington. She was of Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include four daughters, Debbie Reynolds and husband Brian of Indianapolis, Dianna Delphia of Evansville, Evonda Terrell of Bedford, and Patricia Wagner and husband Donald of Evansville; two sons, Randy Lee Phillips and Thomas Dewayne Phillips, both of Springville; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hollie Eugene Tolbert and wife Pam of Hope and Walter Dale Tolbert of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jimmy Wayne Mason; and one granddaughter, Lisa Troutman.

Jon Waters

Jon Waters, of Bedford, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday at the age of 75.

Although born Oct. 20, 1934, in Green Bay, Wis., he made Ely, Minn., his home for many years, before moving to Bedford.

He was co-founder of Canadian Waters canoe outfitters in Ely, in 1964, and more recently was the Executive Director of the Brown County Chamber of Commerce in Nashville.

Throughout his life, he was actively involved in civic organizations, including the Ely City Council, Ely Rotary Club, Ely Chamber of Commerce, Ely Board of Education, Ely Canoe Outfitters Association, Ely United Way, Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, and was even Vice President of the United Way of Northeast Minnesota and was the recipient of their Volunteer of the Year Award. As Chairman of the Board, he oversaw construction of the International Wolf Center in Ely in 1992.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington.

Jon will be remembered best as the fun-loving and humorous friend to many, always sharing new jokes and stories with everyone he met. He was a loving husband and father, and is survived by his wife Joyce and his son Marshall.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Bloomington with Pastor Lawrence Mitchell officiating.

Leroy Inman, 89, of Williams, passed away at 4:37 a.m. Sunday at the White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born April 1, 1920, in Williams, he was the son of Randall and Cleona (Mavity) Inman.

Leroy was a graduate of Williams High School with the class of 1939 and served as toast master for the alumni banquet. He was a longtime Williams farmer and a member of the Bloomfield Church of Christ. He was active in church work and officiated at numerous weddings and funerals.

Survivors include one sister, Loraine Schlieper; one niece, Martha Sheppard and her husband Bill, all of Pearl, Ill.; two great-nephews; and special friends, Mike and Karen Spreen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Rick Hudson and Brother Grant Riggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery.

Joseph Raines Jr.

Joseph Raines Jr. who was born March 10, 1925, in Bedford, to Joseph F. Raines and Pearl (Clements) Raines, passed away Jan. 13 in Michigan.

He grew up in the Shawswick School area, where he tended livestock and farmed the fields until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He completed his basic training at Camp Haan, Calif., near Riverside, and was assigned to an anti-aircraft battalion, the 125th AA Battalion. After additional training at Camp Livingston, La., he was shipped to England where he first engaged the German V1 rockets (buzz bombs) at the White Cliffs of Dover, England.

When the Germans later broke the American lines in the Ardennes Forest, he was sent to Belgium and into the Battle of the Bulge.

After the war, he retired to Bedford and married Alice Marie Reynolds (April 18, 1926 — Oct. 28, 1981), also from the Shawswick area. He moved to Wayne, Mich., in 1946 and later took a job with Dow Chemical Co. His final working years were spent with the Ford Motor Co., from where he retired in 1989.

He loved bluegrass music and played the guitar and mandolin around the Michigan area before moving back to Indiana in 2000. He continued to attend bluegrass festivals around Lawrence and Brown counties as well as participate with a local group near Nashville.

He is survived by his chosen companion, Carol Ann Terrill of Bedford; his five children, William “Bill” Raines, Wayne, Mich., Sharon Kunckle of Somerset, Mich., Kathy Todd of Addison, Mich., Donna Riley of Garden City, Mich., and Joseph “Joey” Raines of Somerset, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Earley of Orlando, Fla., and Connie Pingree of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and two brothers, Wayne Raines of Denver, Colo., and Doyle Raines of Crawfordsville.

Graveside service with military honors by American Legion Gillen Post No. 33, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Leatherwood Cemetery at Shawswick.

Bob E. Montavon, 91, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Bedford, died Saturday at his residence in Florida.

He was retired from General Motors following 30 years of service, 20 at the Bedford plant and 10 in Indianapolis.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Montavon and wife Jean of Bedford, and James D. Montavon of Florida; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Montavon.

Genefern N. Clifton, 94, Bedford, died Saturday at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford.

She was born April 17, 1915, in Martin County, the daughter of Bertie L. and Hattie E. (Jones) Newland. She married Claude Lincoln Clifton on May 11, 1946, in Bedford, and he passed away on Oct. 24, 2002.

She was a retired school teacher after 35 years in Martin, Orange and Lawrence counties. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford, Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association, AARP, Eastern Star, and DAR.

Surviving are one son, Newell Clifton and wife Judy of Bedford; one daughter, Janet Hancock and husband Terry of Socorro, N.M.; one grandson, Ted Hancock of Wilmington, N.C.; and six great-grandchildren, Auden Hancock, Kyra Hancock, Mackenzie Clifton, Jeffery Clifton, Brianna Clifton, Alexis Clifton

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two grandsons, Jeff Clifton and Robert Clifton; and one brother, Robert John Newland.

Milo Bush, 95, Buddha, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.

Born Jan. 27, 1914, in Salem, he was the son of Tilford and Anna (Brewer) Bush. He married Izillah Faris June 11, 1932.

He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of the Tunnelton United Methodist Church.

Milo was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Surviving are his wife, Izillah Bush, Bedford; daughters, Joan Lee Mathis and husband Carrol of Bedford and Beverly Jane Girdley and husband Arch of Castle Rock, Colo.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

His parents; and sisters, Lola Garrison, Eva Collins, Dora Heironimus, and Edna Connerley, preceded him in death.

Kenneth E. Courtright, 70, French Lick, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at 2:43 p.m. Saturday, at Bloomington Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1939, in Orange County, he was the son of Chester and Margie (Robbins) Courtright. He married Linda Alvey May 23, 1959.

He was owner/operator of Courtright Sawmill and a member of the Lumbermen’s Association. He was a former area supervisor at Koppers Industries. He graduated from Shoals High School in 1956 and was a member of the American Checkers Association and seven-time Indiana State Champion.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Courtright of French Lick; mother, Margie Courtright of Shoals; daughters, Sherry Lynn Zehr and husband Jake of Dubois, and Penny Ann Robbins and husband Tony of French Lick; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, James Courtright of Shoals; and a sister, Judy Felts and husband Charles of Shoals.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father.

Graveside service will be at noon on Tuesday, January 19, at Mitchell Cemetery with Larry Alvey and John Moffatt officiating.

Ula Iona Hughes, 95, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Manor.

She was born on Jan. 28, 1914, in Casey, Ill., and was retired from Central Foundry and had attended New Hope Church. She married Lester Hughes and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Surviving are two stepchildren, Don Hughes and Barbara Aufenberg, both of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild; and caregivers, Mary Thompson and Linda Craig, where she lived for almost nine years in Leesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two stepdaughters,Virginia Basinger and Betty Brown; and one stepson, Gordon Hughes.

John Michael Dowdell, 63, Norman, died at 12:49 p.m. Friday at his residence.

Born Oct. 26, 1946, in Indianapolis, the son of Michael F. and Helen Gorton Dowdell. He married Cherie Lynn Hansom on Oct. 25, 1997, in Nashville, and she survives.

He was a paramedic, retiring in 2002 after 28 years of service with the United States Air Force. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association, Carr Township Fire Department, VFW, Native American Veterans Association, Native American Indian Council, Brown County Emergency Medical Association and a member of Search and Rescue. He was also a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brownstown.

Surviving with his wife, Cherie Lynn Dowdell of Norman; are one son, Russell (Sharon) Martin of Australia; two daughters, Jamie (Whittredge) Tincher of Norman, and Jenny (Michael) Villarreal of Columbus; and six grandchildren, Matthew Whittredge, Daniel D.Tincher, Ashton Villarreal, Monica Martin, Trevor Martin, and Sarah Martin.

He was preceded in death by both parents; his first wife, Donna Harvey; and his stepmother, Marguerite Dowdell.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Spurgeon Funeral Home in Brownstown. Burial will be in Proctor Cemetery in Lawrence County with full military honors by the U.S. Air Force from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Victorine Rollman, 89, Johnson Christian Village, Bedford, passed from this life towards heaven on Jan. 15, 2010, at 1:30 a.m.

Mom was born on May 1, 1920, in Martin County, Indiana, the daughter of Isaac and Eva Stroud Wade. She married Bert Rollman on Dec. 13, 1942, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her three children, Buddy D. Rollman and wife Linda of Bedford, Sharon K. King and husband Bill of rural Mitchell, and Darlene Sue Smith and husband Ralph of rural Mitchell; also six grandchildren, Natalie, Darin, Trent, Toby, Tracey, and Chad; and eight great-grandchildren, Sarah, Paige, Zachary, Olivia, Taylor, Cameron, Geordan, and Braden. Also surviving are one brother, Harley Wade of Williams; one sister, Ola Morrow of rural Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, George, and Harold; five sisters, Myrtle, Gertie, Dessie, Dovie and Gracie Fern; a grandson, Trevor King; and a great-granddaughter, Crystal Nicole King.

She was a member of the Southland Church of Christ.

Mom was a simple lady who loved the simple things in life. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, fishing, but most of all, she looked forward to April each year and the thrill of hunting and finding mushrooms. She was blessed to be able to hunt ‘til she was 82 years old.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home and services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. The funeral service will be officiated by Brother Frank and Brother Russell Johnson. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Jordan L. Holtsclaw, 19, of Orleans died Thursday at his home, where he resided with his parents and siblings.

He conquered the world with his smile. He fought a life long illness and now has won the battle. He now walks hand and hand with Jesus. He was a courageous person, who inspired so many.

Jordan was born May 11, 1990, in Bedford, to James L. and Charity Holtsclaw, who survive.

He attended Englewood School in Bedford from 1995 until 1999, and then became a homebound student. He attended Mitchell Wesleyan Church.

Along with his parents; two sisters survive, Jerrica Holtsclaw, 18, and Jessie Holtsclaw, 16, both at home; also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Charles and Sheila Morgan of Orleans, also his paternal grandparents, Jerry and Carol Holtsclaw of Oolitic; his aunts and uncles, Jerry and Sherry Pemberton of New Albany, Chuck and Jill Morgan of Orleans, and Barry and Michelle Holtsclaw Cummings of Bedford; and numerous cousins and other relatives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Orleans.

Elmer William “Tony” Worley, 83, 472 East Grissom, Mitchell, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Thursday at his residence. He fought a long and courageous battle against Parkinson’s disease and was a “tough little trooper.”

He was born July 15, 1926, in Quinton, Ky., and was reared in the home of Frank and Ethel Sullivan of Springville. He married Evelyn Maxine Blackerby on Feb. 8, 1947.

He retired from GM Powertrain after 34 years of faithful service, and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

Tony was an avid coon hunter during his healthier years, trained champion coon dogs, and was a member of the Coon Hunting Club.

He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather to his four daughters and their children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Maxine Worley of Mitchell; daughters, Jan (Jerry) Fortner of Bedford, Deborah DeLong of Jacksonville, Fla., Wynola “Odie” (Verl) Taylor of Bedford, and Rhonda (Tom) Harrell, Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Mark Lewis of East Hampton, N.Y., Marty (Monica) Lewis of Indianapolis, Michelle (Shane) Henderson of Lexington, Ky., Troy Callahan of Whiteland, Trisha Callahan Okes of Bedford, Stephanie (Steven) Sipes of Mitchell, Taj (Kristi) DeLong of Yulee, Fla., and Tia (Jason) Rogers of Callahan, Fla.; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; siblings, Jack “Poss” Sullivan, Jr. of Springville, Kizzie Stultz of Carmel, and James Helmer “Bub” Sullivan of Bloomington.

His parents; brothers, Jack Sullivan and Denver Sullivan; and son-in-law, Pete Tardiff, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. James Moore officiating. Burial will follow with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Kenneth E. Buher

Kenneth E. Buher, 80, life long farmer of Lawrence County, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at his residence. His wife, Joan Smith Buher of 63 years survives.

Born Aug. 21, 1929, in Bedford, Kenny graduated from Bedford High School and joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1947.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell and Bedford, a 50-year member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM, 32nd degree Mason of Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, charter member of Barrow, Alaska Masonic Lodge, life member of American Legion Post No. 250, and IUOE No. 302 of Alaska and Washington.

His working career included signal maintainer for the Monon Railroad, Bedford C&B Electric, overhead crane operator for Rowe and Engles Limestone Co., and Central Foundry, school bus owner/operator for Mitchell Community Schools, bus delivery driver for Carpenter Body Works, Inc., driver/heavy equipment operator for Hall Trucking of Orleans, mail carrier for USPS of Mitchell, and manager/dispatcher of Mitchell Transport, Inc. of Mitchell and Anderson.

His working career continued in Alaska as a commercial fisherman on the Alaska King, gold miner of Alaska Goldmine Co., superintendent for Municipality of Anchorage Street Department, part owner of Alaska Seamless Flooring for the commercial industry, and retired as a heavy equipment operator of Veco, Inc., working in the oilfields on the North Slope of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

He enjoyed his travels to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, Mexico, and various other destinations with his family, with numerous road trips, cruises, and airplane and helicopter flights piloted by his two sons, Phil and Ned.

Kenny and Joan lived several years in Alaska and were snowbirds of Arizona. He possessed a special charisma and enjoyed humoring friends and drinking coffee at all the local coffee shops. He always greeted and will be remembered for his very firm handshake, smile, fairness, and honesty.

He attained movie star status when he was cast as a lead role in the Encyclopedia Britannica filming of the “Settlement of the Midwest Territory,” “Mississippi Valley,” and “Frontier Boy” in 1961, filmed on the Buher’s Farm and Spring Mill State Park.

Kenny and Joan consider among their life blessings their four children:

sons, Thomas E. Buher and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Crown Point, Philip W. Buher of Mitchell, Ned K. Buher and his wife, Kim, of Chandler, Ariz., and daughter, Patrice J. Buher of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Anchorage, Alaska. They have eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, and son, Ned K. Buher.

Funeral service with Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday with Jim Buher and Bill Buher officiating.

Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107 at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 15.

Born Jan. 9, 1920, she was the daughter of Clyde and Ola (Staggs) Moore. She married Robert Judah on Sept. 24, 1938, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1997.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Judith Stewart of Needmore; three grandchildren, Brad Stewart, Linda Short and Karen Mowrey; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a sheet metal worker for Ratcliff Enterprises, Inc., of Bedford.

He was a 1983 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. He was a member of the Mundell Christian Church and the Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 20 in Indianapolis. He was an avid musician, drummer and played in several bands.

He was a retired construction worker and also worked as a machinist. He attended Dive Christian Church, was a member of American Legion, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mike King Jr., 83, of Bedford, died at 4:14 p.m. Monday at Westview Manor Nursing and Rehab in Bedford.

Born Aug. 3, 1926, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Mike King Sr. and Ruby Irene (Hawkins) King. He married Mamie L. Flinn on Feb. 3, 1961, and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2000.

He served with the Merchant Marines from 1947 to 1951. He had worked at Bedford Building Supply and Black-Carmichael Lumber and later was a school bus monitor for North Lawrence Community School System.

He was a member of the Dive Christian Church and American Legion. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and a stunt driver.

Survivors include one son, Randall H. King and wife Tina of Mitchell; granddaughter, Connie L. King; grandson, Daniel T. King; stepgranddaughter, Alisha Cooper; great-grandchildren, Hayden Kirkman and Brooklyn Patton; step-great-grandchildren, Keygan Matheny, Madysen Feathers, Gabriel Brazzel and Ezari Brazzel; and one brother, Robert H. She married Arthur Linden Hill on July 8, 1945, and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1996.

She was a homemaker and a member of Old Union United Methodist Church.

Born Nov. 26, 1927, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Elmer and Lelia (Williamson) Smith. He married Larna June Nickless on June 28, 1947, and she survives.

He was a foreman at Architectural Stone Co. in Bedford. He was a member of the Oolitic Methodist Church, where he was treasurer and served on the church board for more than 20 years.

Tim was a senior at Mitchell High School and attended BNL Vocational School, where he studied and excelled in electronics. He had been accepted into the U.S. Army to become an UAV pilot, and was scheduled to leave following graduation.

Mary Jane Greenwell Smith, 99, Bedford, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford.

Born Oct. 5, 1910, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Bernard and Maude (Deckard) O’Brien. She first married Louis J. Greenwell in July 1933, and he preceded her in death in August 1971. She married Stanley E. Smith in December 1973, and he preceded her in death March 7, 1998.

She worked at Reliance and M. Fine & Co. garment factory in Bedford for 40 years.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford.

Survivors include one niece, Mary Ann Dougherty of Bloomington; two nephews, Richard McCormick of Greenwood and Wayne McCormick of Cloverdale; three stepdaughters, June Beavers of Bedford, Sherry Collins of Orangeville, and Shirley Chastain of Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her nephew, Robert McCormick in 1996; and her sister, Louise McCormick Lents in March 1999.

Helen F. Naragon

Helen F. Naragon, 92, passed away on Jan. 1, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Naragon, Sr., her son, Wayne Naragon, Jr., and her daughter, Phyllis L. Alley.

She is survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was a registered nurse and worked in that capacity well into her golden years. She was tireless in her volunteer work and continued to volunteer her time and talent past her 92nd birthday. Helen also had a great love for animals, especially her beloved dachshund, Molly.

Private services were held on Jan. 9, 2010, in Mitchell.

Dorothy Gale Nikirk Feltner, 78, of Bedford passed away on Jan. 4.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1931, in Lawrence County, to the late William and Ona Louise Turner Nikirk. She is also preceded in death by her son, Scott Feltner, and her brother Merle Nikirk,

Gale, as she was known to her family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Bedford; she had been in the Austin, Texas, area for the past few months. Gale always put her family first. She was treasured by her children and grandchildren for her patience, her ability to listen, her wit and sense of humor. She loved gardening, crafts, sewing and reading. Her family cherished her and will miss her greatly.

Mary L. Herrington, 86, of Springville, formerly of Freedom, passed away January 8, 2010 at Monroe Hospital. Mary was born May 19, 1923 to Steve and Margurite (Blaker) Hash in Bloomfield. She worked in the early 1970s for RCA, and then became a homemaker. She was a member of Freedom Nazarene Church and attended Eastview Nazarene in Bloomington with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Herrington enjoyed quilting.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Treasea June Roberson of Springville; three brothers, Donald Hash of Bloomfield, Edward Hash of Bloomfield, and William Hash of Solsberry; four sisters, Maxine Holiday of Greenfield, Edna Elderidge of Bargersville, Naomi Dart of Greenwood, and Sarah Murphy of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Michael Robertson, Matthew Robertson, Wendy Shahan and Kelly Mullis; nine great-grandchildren, Jeremy Robertson, Stefanie Robertson, Dawn Robertson, Elizabeth Yarberry, Austin Shahan, Mackenzie Shahan, Bradley Mullis, Amanda Mullis and Dakoda Robertson; and three great-great grandchildren, Lilly Robertson, Angel Castro and Teresa Castro.

Scott Deckard

Scott Deckard, age 56, Indianapolis, passed away early Thursday morning at the Indiana Heart Hospital.

He was born Nov. 7, 1953, in Washington, to the late Sanford A. “Pal” and Jeanne Deckard.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy (Ritchie); and one son, Logan Deckard; as well as a sister, Sharon Vice, of Greenwood.

Scott was the General Manager at Ed Martin Honda and had been a member of the Ed Martin Automotive Group family since 1987. He grew up in the car business, working for his father at Pal Deckard Ford in Bedford, where he started in the parts department at the age of 12. He brought that small town feel to the big city where he treated his customers as though they were his neighbors or friends.

In addition to his professional career, Scott had been the statistician for the Lawrence North High School football team for eight years and was a huge fan of all Indiana high school sports.

He was a 1974 graduate of Bedford High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive Marketing from Northwood Institute.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center — Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis. A private burial service will be held after cremation.

Lilburn “Jim” James Pullon, 54, of Bloomington, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Bloomington Hospital.

He was the son of Robert Franklin Pullon and Nellie Ruth (Cunningham) Hickam, born March 29, 1955, in Bristol, Virginia.

Jim retired from General Motors Powertrain in Bedford. He was a member of the Shiloh Pentecostal Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Bonita (Deckard) Pullon of Bloomington; son, Lannie Pullon of Bloomington; daughter, Rev. Jennifer Clark (Brandon) of Fortville; two grandsons, Codie Pullon and Bryce Pullon; two sisters, Glorianne Glover of Lakeland, FL, and Pansy McCreary (Mike) of Franklin, IN; and stepfather, Robert Hickam of Plainfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Billy Glover.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010, at Shiloh Pentecostal Temple with Pastor Russell Elkins officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Allen Funeral Home and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Warren G. Colglazier, 89, Mitchell, passed away at 4:58 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

Born Oct. 16, 1920, in Bedford, he was the son of Claude and Bertha (Allegre) Colglazier. He married Francille Imo McDonald Nov. 26, 1943, and she preceded him in death Nov. 20, 2007.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolves).

He was a farmer and graduated from Williams High School in 1939. He was a member of the Huron Baptist Church where he had been a deacon, and was a member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No.228 F&AM, charter member of the Lawrence County 4-H Fair Board and 4-H leader, and the Brown Swiss Association.

Surviving are his children, Marietta C. Swaim, Winston-Salem, N.C., Terry Allen Colglazier and wife Jean, Clinton, N.C., Myra Elaine Colglazier, Bedford, Anita Lynn Colglazier, Raleigh, N.C., and Mark Warren Colglazier, Mitchell; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

His parents; wife; sisters, Lillian Williams, Ruth Purlee, Olive Larsen, and Lucille Colglazier; and brothers, Frank Sears and Willard Colglazier; and son-in-law, Al Swaim; preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will be in Bryantsville Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 9107.

Born Sept. 29, 1917, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Broda and Marie (McMann) Johnson. She married Herman Splitgerber on June 29, 1940, and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1988.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1935. She had worked at the Stone City Apothecary and Crowders Drug Store. She was a life-long member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Omega Nu Tau sorority.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Splitgerber and wife Jane of San Francisco, Calif.; one sister, Melba Lufkin of Tampa, Fla.; two nieces; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Evalou Skinner.

She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, crocheting and other crafts.

LeRoy Hackler age 80 of Bedford, formerly of Naples, Fla., and Bloomington, passed away at his residence on Sunday.

LeRoy was born Aug. 17, 1929 in Bloomington, the son of Katherine (Landis) Jones and Sheldon Hackler, and the stepson of Charles Jones.

He worked mostly as a delivery driver before retiring.

He was a loving husband and dad; he was a good friend to many and will be missed by us all. Survivors include his son, Michael Lee Hackler; and daughter, Kimberly Hope Hall; five siblings, Richard Hackler, Robert Hackler, Ron Hackler, Ruth Ann Walden, and Rick Hackler; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Olive Bex, 89, of Bedford, formerly of Spice Valley Road in Mitchell, died at 4:10 a.m. on Monday at Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1920, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Willie and Lora (White) Tolbert. She married Asa Bex on May 28, 1943, at Hattiesburg, Miss., and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1994.

She worked at Reliance Manufacturing Company at Bedford, Mitchell and Hattiesburg for several years. She retired from the Burris School cafeteria.

She was a 1938 graduate of Williams High School. She was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Surviving are one son, Gary Bex and wife Gaye of Indianapolis; one daughter, Rita Dunn and husband Mark of Bedford; one brother, William Tolbert of Indianapolis; one sister, Bertha Buckley of Bedford; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Grace Bridges; and brothers, Oliver, James, Roy, Robert and Opal Tolbert.

Joseph T. Ashworth, 83, of Orleans, died Sunday at the Bloomington Hospital of Orange County in Paoli.

Joseph was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Watkins, Ark., to Ted and Dona Powell Ashworth. He married Nina Rosier and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2003.

He worked with the Forest Service. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving the United States Navy. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Santee, S.C.

He is survived by his son, Mathew Ashworth of California; four granddaughters, Lee Grimes of Mitchell, Brook Newlin and Mallory Mink, both of Orleans, and Brandy Ream of Peninsula, Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Anne Leinart; two brothers; and a sister.

Helen M. Woodward, 85, of Bedford, died at 1:55 a.m. on Sunday at Westview Manor Nursing Home in Bedford.

Born Sept. 2, 1924, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Earl and Verna (Barriger) Southern. She married Jesse T. Woodward on June 9, 1942, and he preceded her in death on June 22, 1983.

She was a homemaker and had worked various jobs, the last at the Hoosier National Forest Service. She was a graduate of Needmore High School with the class of 1942. She was a member of Dive Christian Church and VFW Post No. 1686 of Oolitic.

She was a musician. She loved to play the piano and sing karaoke. She also enjoyed painting, crafts and sewing.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Gugin and husband Clifford, and Beverly Grogan and husband Dennis; one son, Greg Woodward and wife Doris, all of Bedford; three grandchildren, Bill Hicks, Carrie Russell and Robby Woodward; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry Phemister and wife Joanne of Heltonville; one sister, Marla Rae; one brother-in-law, Burl Woodward and wife Lena of Bedford; and her best friend and companion, Hanford Prince and family of Bedford.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three grandchildren, Tom Gugin, Kathy Jean Gugin and Laura Gugin Winters; three sisters, Marjorie Hayes, Ruth “Pat” Jackson and Jackie Eaves; and two brothers, Morris Southern and Bob Phemister.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Christian Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 11 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the mortuary.

Mabel E. Menaugh

Mabel Elizabeth Menaugh, 98, of Hanover, formerly of Bedford, died at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover.

She was born Aug. 13, 1911, in Bedford, the daughter of John L. and Ora Katherine (Leach) Miller. She married Paul Menaugh on Nov. 2, 1930, in Brownstown.

She was a homemaker.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford for over 75 years; was a member of DAR, the Women’s Department Club, and Christian Women’s Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Allen and husband Jerry of Madison; one son, Paul Thomas Menaugh and wife Karen of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Don Allen of McKinney, Texas, Steve Allen of Commerce Township, Mich., Brice Menaugh of Tucson, Ariz., and Lindsey Stevens and Kelley Newman, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Katherine Hunter and Ora Johnson.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Bedford, with the Rev. Beth Ann Cook and the Rev. Tim Ahlemeyer officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until the service on Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Steve Allen, Don Allen, Blake Allen and Brice Menaugh.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church in Bedford or the Hospice of Jennings County. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Ruth R. Chastain, 101, of Bedford, formerly of Salem, died Friday at StoneBridge Health Care in Bedford.

Survivors include two sons, C.R. “Bob” Chastain of Decatur, Ill., and William “Bill” Chastain, of Taylorsville, Ill.; one daughter, Marcella Meyers of Rio Verda, Ariz.; and one sister, Marjorie Sallee of Bedford.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Weathers Funeral Home in Salem. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery.

Friends may call two hours prior to service Monday at the funeral home.

Kendall L. Sims

Dec. 26, 1953 — Dec. 16, 2009

Kendall L. Sims died unexpectedly Dec. 16, 2009, in Bonaire, Antilles, while he was on vacation. He was 55.

Kendall was the son of Mildred Norris Sims and Glen L Sims. He was born in Bedford, Ind., on Dec. 26, 1953. His family moved back to Oklahoma and he went to school in Ponca City until he was in seventh grade. He then moved to Bedford, Ind., to be with his father and his stepmother, Martha Sims. He graduated from Bedford and then went to college in Evansville, Ind., from 1972-1977.

Before his death he worked most of his life as a realtor in the Jersey City, N.J., area.

Kendall had a love for trains, reading books and trading stocks, spending time at church and singing in the choir. He also liked to socialize with friends and family.

He will greatly be missed by his family, coworkers and his beloved cats.

He is survived by his sisters, Pam Lawson and husband Mike of Miami, Okla., and Penny Northcutt and husband Dwaine of Ponca City; and his niece, Liza Brooks and husband Ron and their daughter, Jocelyn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen L Sims; mother, Mildred N. Sims; stepmother, Martha Sims; and grandparents, Lloyd and Mildred Norris and Homer and Edith Sims.

There will be a memorial service at a later date in Jersey City, N.J.

Marjorie Helen Grecco

Marjorie Helen Grecco, 91, of 312 2nd Street, Oolitic, died at 4:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at the Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1918, in Heltonville, she was the daughter of Ray R. and Ruth Anne (Todd) Roberts. She married Philip Grecco on Sept. 17, 1939, and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of the Heltonville Methodist Church. Prior to her illness she enjoyed Yahtzee, board games, crossword puzzles, playing cards, bowling, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Carmella Murray of Fenton, MI., and Janet Pritchett and her husband, Patrick, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Horton and husband, Curtis, of Fenton, MI, Thomas Murray and wife, Patricia, of Harper Woods, MI, Denny Pritchett of Brownstown, Annette Norrick and husband, Seth, of Oolitic and Bethany Melvin and her husband, Jason, of Bedford; six great-grandchildren and two on the way, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Philip, two brothers, Robert and Eugene Roberts and two sisters, Geneva Wagoner and Betty Oltmans.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jeff Hauersperger officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday, January 2 at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Randall K. Johnson

Randall K. Johnson, 64, of Bedford, died Friday, Jan. 1, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford.

Randall was born April 5, 1945, in Orange County, to his parents, John Willard and Lucille Dailey Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death. He served in the United States Navy and attended Orleans Nazarene Church.

He married Julia Longest Johnson, and she survives. Others surviving Randall are two sons, Randall James Johnson and Jeremiah Johnson, both of Bloomington; three daughters survive, Audrey Brooks of North Carolina, Amber Johnson of Evansville and Nichole Johnson of Bedford; two brothers, Willard Lee Johnson of Mitchell and Rusty Johnson of North Vernon; one sister, Sheila Allen of Columbus; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Orleans Nazarene Church in Orleans with Pastor Jerry Richardson officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery, Orleans, with military rites presented by the Orleans American Legion, Warren Brock Post No. 69.

Friends are invited to call at the Orleans Nazarene Church on Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
