Jobs not looking too good in Lawrence Cty to me. 2008/07/14 13:07 (4 Months, 2 Weeks ago) Karma: 0
Well all, I have worked in Indy, in Carmel, and across the country, but born and raised here in Bedford. I have been in IT for 20 yrs, and there is NO WHERE in this county that you can actually GO and look for a specific job. I think it would be a good idea for the Mayor or the county to open up a Workforce agency that actually LISTENS to what you know, rather that just put you in a "general" category, maybe even a web site. I certainly would love the opportunity to actually know WHO might need Computer Support/Programming around the county. I guess I am a "computer geek", can do just about anything with them.

Just my 2 cents.....certainly didn't mean to offend anyone if I did. I just NEED A JOB!

Anyone know of a place that might list IT jobs in BEDFORD other than Dice.com or Monster.com, which I don't think even knows where Bedford is? Maybe somewhere LOCAL?

Heck, I would even go back to a place like REGAL BELOIT (Remember it in Mitchell? When it was open and where I worked for 12 yrs) if I knew of such a place.

Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center posts computer related jobs often. You can go to the following websites and search for jobs in Indiana.

http://www.usajobs.gov/

http://acpol.army.mil/employment/

https://chart.donhr.navy.mil/index.asp

However I should warn you. Unless you are related (or know someone really well) to someone already working on base. You will face an uphill battle to get hired there.

As for other local jobs. There isn't much around here for computer professionals. I have an AAS in Networking. But I've not yet been able to find a job in a related field here locally. For now I mostly just fix computers on the side for extra money.

Indiana Workforce just started a new website. Not sure how much better it will be than the old one. But you can check it out here.

Crane? Forget about that place. I worked there for 17 yrs as a contractor as a Sr. Systems Analyst, then NMCI comes along and POOF, there goes the IT dept. CONTRACTORS FIRST! And thats the ONLY way, as a CONTRACTOR. If you want one of THEIR posted jobs, you have to be FRESH out of College with an Engineering degree. Trust me, I know Crane.
Maybe we can go into business together and take over the IT in this town. Won't take much.

The new site you posted I had to go to for unemployment benifits. As usual, VERY confusng. I could write SUCH A BETTER database driven program. Just makes me sick. Still waiting on the NEW Unemployment Debit card. Do they not think I DON'T need MY MONEY? Uggggggggg!

You didn't mention the type of work you do in IT - it's a really wide scope. Why not work from your location for a company located elsewhere? In Texas, we have a very hard time finding IT people as there is a high demand. We have both on site and remote workers in our software company, though they don't live quite as far away I admit.

I think depending on which way the election goes - jobs are going to get much tighter. Finding a government job may be the best option as many small businesses are talking layoffs and cut backs.

Best wishes to you!
