WHY IS BEDFORD SOOOOO HIGH STILL

i went to north eastern indiana this past weekend and noted that bedford is the highest in THE STATE!

why are the area stations still charging as much as 50 cents above some areas and 25 cents above the state average. several areas have dropped 20-30 cents over the weekend and what did bedford get, a whopping 3 cents. thats right. 3 cents. kinda like a slap in the face from the gas companies in bedford, saying we control you and there is nothing we can do about it.

Its amazing that the stations will raise prices without thinking, but wont come down for anything.

go to indianagasprices.com and indygasprices.com if you dont believe.

we shouldnt stand for this, we should STAND UP AGAINST! its not fair.

FIGHT THE GAS PRICES!!!

I agree, it is quite absurd that the prices here are so much higher than other areas around.

Even Paoli is at $3.49, while Bedford continues to charge $3.88 in most places.

I'm afraid that the answer is, as usual, "they do it because they can."

Local prices from IndianaGasPrices.com (a sub-site of gasbuddy.com) are republished here on Bedford Online automatically. The downside of their site is that they rely on user-submitted prices, so the coverage is spotty.

If more people would report their local gas prices, it would help everyone avoid the worst offenders wherever possible.

You can also find gas prices at MSN Autos, which are automatically collected from various stations.

I agree.. I went to Indy yesterday and on the way up prices were in the 3.60's in Bloomington... and in Martinsville it was 3.59.. Then in Indy I saw 3.49 .. It seems in a simple 30 to 45 minute drive in any given direction from Bedford, one can save 30 cents plus in gas?? Funny how that always seems to be the case.. Can we say Bedford Gouging! Of course not that would be illegal..

I don't think I'll really be happy until it's back under $2.

local gas stations have very little say in the gas prices. most of them do well to break even. if you don't own a station or know someone who does, then you don't have a clue. it is never gouging as long as you have the option to go elsewhere.

I just added a "Gas Prices" page with a map of the area, and a historical chart. Local gas prices can be found there, as well as on most other pages on the site.

The gas price data that is shown here relies on people spotting prices and reporting them. If anyone is interested in helping out, you can sign up at http://www.indianagasprices.com/ and submit prices that you have seen.

Even though gas prices have been falling steadily across the land, Bedford continues to stay higher than the rest.

Right now, on http://www.indianagasprices.com/, Bedford has multiple stations listed among the 15 highest priced stations in the State.

The state average is $2.735, yet most stations here are in the $2.90s.

There are some stations in Martinsville and Shelbyville selling at $2.41.

Hi StLarry,

I have to agree with you, it is not fair at all. I just heard about our water prices going up, and I have been dealing with these gas prices too like everyone else. We are a lovely little town, you would think that the powers that be over pricing, and gauging at the pump would give us here in Bedford a break. I agree we should protest, but one thing is in the way...we have to go to work.
Take care,
Babs

I filled up last night in Orleans. It was the first time in a long time that I filled up my tank (nearly 12 gallons) for less than $35.

I hope it keeps dropping until it's under $2, but I kind of doubt that will happen.

And they keep going down and down and down!

On my way home, most of the Bedford/Mitchell stations were $2.69.

Still higher than the state average, but doing better every day.

Orleans was $2.75-2.76.

I filled up earlier this week for $2.59/gal. The price at that station hasn't changed since Monday.

I've heard that a few places in Bloomington are as low as $2.54/gal.

I'm not sure I would have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself, but the prices in Martinsville and Franklin over the weekend were around $2.25! On top of that, I've heard they are $2.22 now.

It was interesting to see the prices drop more and more with each gas station that was passed.

And then, on the way home, they went up and up. Some were worse off than us, though. There was one station in the middle of nowhere between Paoli and Salem that was $2.99.

There have been steep declines 1-2 times per day at many stations, but they are still a tad higher than average.

Right now the low price is $2.29 at the White-River Co-Op South of Mitchell. The high price spotted last night was $2.56 at Johnny Junxion, but the highest I have seen today is $2.49 at the Shell station in Orleans.

State average today is $2.36, and most stations I saw on the way to work were at $2.39.

Well, I think we are doing really good here. The price $2.39 is not a bad one. We paid $4.00 this summer for a gallon of gas.I hope we continue to get cheaper, but we really are fortunate in Bedford. Have a good day.

The prices at many stations are much better today, $2.29!

We are finally at the state average ($2.30), but that might just mean that everyone else is in for a bigger drop.

Martinsville has a couple stations today at $1.98!

I'll be happy when we have that here -- and it stays!
